I daily carry a GORUCK GR1. I chose this pack because of how ridiculously overbuilt it is. Prior to getting the GR1, I carried less and I generally still couldn't go more than 6 months at best without ripping or destroying my packs. I also like that it doesn't have much built in organization. I prefer to create my own organizational system rather than use the one mandated by the pack. This is the primary reason I chose this over similar high quality options such as the Tom Bihn Synapse 25.

Also, I know there is a serious lack of cool hacking tools. Unfortunately I am currently in a more defensive than offensive cybersecurity position, so I don't really carry a lot of stuff around with me like I used to when I was red team.

On the front you can see that I have a Grimloc biner in case I need to attach anything to my pack. I also have a Gonex water bottle pouch and a large water bottle. On the back of the pack I have a pouch with my EDC Zebralight on the shoulder strap for easy access while wearing the ruck.

I'm pretty satisfied with my AmazonBasics umbrella. I've bought maybe 3 since I started school here in Vancouver. Left on in a lecture hall. Broke the other one because I was a bit aggressive (applied too much torque when drying off).

But for $15 it's a steal.

Edit: It's currently out of stock at the moment: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00WTHJ5SU

u/Zeekawla99ii · 8 pointsr/AskNYC

The conventional wisdom in NYC is that you buy cheap umbrellas at kiosks (the little black ones), because you'll throw it away anyways.

I strongly disagree with this. The main reason (besides forgetting them somewhere) that people throw away umbrellas in NYC is that they are destroyed by strong NYC winds.

Just invest $10 more in a windproof umbrella: https://www.amazon.com/EEZ-Y-Windproof-Construction-Compact-Umbrella/dp/B01AU292NS/

I've had one that has lasted 10 years.

u/GoorooDougie · 7 pointsr/bladerunner

Thinkgeek used to sell them, I bought one for someone as a gift years ago, but I don't see them on their site any more (plus they're shutting down).

Amazon has some, might be listed as a light saber umbrella, like this one:

I'm currently in the process of buying some UPF 50 hats from the Coolibar website! And have hassled my sister for days to pick a damn hat so I can buy her some hats to help protect her skin too LOL. (Meanwhile my other sister regularly uses tanning beds can you believe this?!)

I'm getting my hats from here 😃 also going to get some gloves and a sun shawl wrap

this one is better for downtown sidewalk carrying -- giant golf umbrellas should be banned downtown, or at least require the carrier to be taller than 6'5" and offer umbrella coverage to 3 other people.

Last week a bus driver alerted the police that a student had a rifle in a duffel bag, causing a complete 14,000+ student campus lock down and police to swarm the campus with automatic weaponry and shotguns.

Top Left - Right:

Dakine Backpack 25L - Bought for $17 two years ago. Hasn't shown its age at all.

Chicago Cubs Floral Hat - I have fro-like hair, it keeps it down.

ZtuntZ Longboard - For getting around campus.

Bluetooth Headphones - They're not very good. I used a Best Buy gift card for them, so they do the job.

Collapsable Umbrella - Lightweight and easy to fit.

Hanes Black Socks - I wear sandals most of the time, so a dry pair of socks is good to have on hand.

Mittens - My dad bought them for me last Christmas. He said a pianist's hands shouldn't be numb when he goes to practice.

Organ Shoes - These have leather soles so that they don't dirty the pedalboard at the bottom.

AmazonBasics Laptop Case - Rough, and I don't like to use it, but I dropped my laptop so I'm being more careful.

MacBook Air - Does the job well. OK battery.

Middle Left - Right:

Starbucks 16oz Travel Mug - I worked at Sbux and got this at a discount. I'm trying to be less wasteful, so instead of buying packs of waters, I just refill it at school and work.

Mead Five Star Journal - Small notebook I use to document my practice times and what I worked on.

Korg Tuner - I don't need a tuner but someone might, so I like to keep it on hand.

Music - IMSLP printed, Beethoven Urtext and Hanon exercises for Piano.

Hal Leonard Manuscript Journal - Amazon Prime available and cheap. Worth it.

Vandoren Classical A. Sax Reeds
Miraphone Tuba Mouthpiece - I keep these for distractions. I work on buzzing and breaths.
Giddings and Webster Trombone Mouthpiece

Protec Tuba Mouthpiece Case - Fits 2

Bach Orgelbuchlein - Organ Music

The Sea Wolf - When I want to relax, I'll make sure I have a good book on hand.

Bottom Left - Right:

Herschel Wallet - I keep $20 in astd. bills just in case.

Generic Binoculars - Useful for bird watching.

Eagle Scout Card - I'm pretty proud of it and carry it on me at all times.

Anker Charger for Nexus - My original charger gave out and I decided to try this. It's a rapid charger. Not much else.

Bic Lighters

Gerber Paraframe 3in. Knife

Garrity Flashlight

3DS XL Pokemon XY Edi. and charger - My job lets us take small electronics so it's my go-to

Star Wars Vader USB

2 Band-Aids

Burts Bees Chapstick

2 Trojan Condoms

2 Leigas

2 Bobby Pins

Hex Key Set - My bike's handlebars need constant tightening, so I just keep all of them together

Emergency Poncho

Star Wars R2-D2 Pouch

Pencils and Pens

Bar Key - I don't work as a bartender anymore, but I carry it because of habit.

Chicago Blackhawks Lanyard - Has Smith & Wesson handcuff key, keys to the organ recital hall, my apartment and my mailbox.

Blunt Umbrellas are the $$$$$ option. I think I've seen them at The Good Store in East Vic Park.

https://www.thegoodstore.com.au/search-results.asp?sKeywords=umbrella&price=&Submit=Submit

$100 to $160 range from that shop.

I did a "bit" (a lot) of research and eventually went the $$ option and got this on Amazon instead -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0160HYB8S/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's pretty durable so far.

My mother in law bought me a Windpro umbrella before I went to study abroad in England, and it held up pretty well to the English rain and wind! I think mine is this one. The vent thing sounds like a gimmick, but I guess it worked! I've also seen a lot of nicer umbrellas at Nordstrom Rack so you could check there for a discounted one

Honestly, it's under $20, so it's not a travesty if you forget it on the train, and it looks plenty stylish with a suit. Also, wind resistant and will keep you dry.

What brand was it? I have the larger Kikkerland samurai umbrella, and it's one of the best umbrellas I've ever owned. Solid construction and makes a satisfying "thunk" sound when it opens.

u/TouchMyFacecake · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Okaaay, something impressive. Wow, this is hard. How about some cool websites?

  • My favourite: Weavesilk lets you make music with shapes!

  • Kind of self explanitory: The Fucking Weather

  • Awesome stuff that you'll want to buy (most is available on Amazon): This is Why I'm Broke

  • A really cool idea for a site, you answer multiple choice questions, every right answer donates rice to people who need it! Free rice

  • Some mentally stimulating and fun stuff: Sporcle

This is what I would like to ask for! Why would it make my day you ask?

    A) I really need a new brolly (umbrella for y'all Americans).

    B) IT'S LIKE A SWORD, HOW FREAKING COOL IS THAT? I can also use it to poke the pigeons off of my windowsill.

    Great idea for a contest!

I don't live in a big city with lots of wind or anything, but I bought a few of these in 2015 and have been pretty happy with them. They're cheap enough to where even if they did break at this point I'd feel I got my money worth.

I've had this Amazon Basics umbrella for around a year now and it has worked very well. It's most certainly not truly BIFL, as I'll likely need to replace it within the next year, but it has flipped inside out and returned to normal quite a few times, and it's convenient to throw into a backpack.

u/xxSadie · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

Here you go! Be sure to check the customer reviews for photos from other weddings.

u/minttea2 · 2 pointsr/The_Donald

Have you thought of just using strong umbrellas? They make specific umbrellas suitable for light combat in a pinch or heavy winds (you can actually stand on them without breaking), but they are like $100. https://www.amazon.com/Standard-Unbreakable-Walking-Stick-Umbrella-handle/dp/B00HZYTMTY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1492377773&sr=8-5&keywords=unbreakable%2Bumbrella&th=1&psc=1

However, as long as you accept that a cheaper umbrella is only good for one good go in an emergency, any overbuilt full size one for $20 or less (thicker metal stick part or heavy wood), preferably with a carrying sheath is a defensive weapon in a pinch.

Or better still yet one of the overbuilt collapsible golf type 56" or 58" vented canopy umbrellas that can pop out the overbuilt handle (wood or heavy duty hard plastic) without a need to pop open the canopy (not all can do this and most are NOT overbuilt). Some overbuilt ones almost equal a weak ass collapsible baton.

On the East Coast, there is a CHANCE of rain several days a week. So practical. And stuck in a handbag - no special attention. Plus little chance of serious damage being caused. And would be hard for the media to say cr-p about same.

fear cuts deeper than words

Edit #1 - Replaced #1 #2, #9, #13, #15, edited some text, added bonuses

Okay, so a lot of my items are similar, or are kind of "flexing" the rules, but I will leave official rulings up to you. Here goes!

  1. Something Grey - Strip of magnesium - This actually just got gifted to me. This coal trash can is silver, which is basically grey :D

2)Something reminiscent of rain - Zen Garden - Flexing the rules. It's only related because it's a garden. An umbrella!! I don't have one of these, and I have no idea why.

  2. Food related - Pineapple corer/slicer

  3. On wishlist not for me (this is for my fiancee) - Apple Cider k-cups

  4. A book you should read - Everyone should have the Joy of Cooking

    6)Item less than a dollar - MP3

  5. Something related to cats - This is related because of that scene in "Christmas Vacation" where the cat gets electrocuted

  6. [Beautiful but not useful - Lego adoption of Brandenburg Gate](
    http://www.amazon.com/LEGO%C2%AE-Architecture-Brandenburg-Gate-21011/dp/B0050R0V3O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=E9RD1GO4V1KF&coliid=I22USNN7FC4LVL)

  7. Movie everyone should see once - Not on wishlist - Harlan County, USA. This documentary is nearly perfect in every sense of the word. This movie is so powerful, and so real, it's just unbelievable. One of my favorites. I always suggest it when someone asks "what documentary should I see?"

  8. Something useful when Zombies attack - Kinect Your Shape Fitness Evolved - You need to be able to Outwit, Outrun, and Outlast.

  9. Profound impact on life - Guitar. I really want to learn how to play, and my dad was going to teach me, but he passed before he was able to. It would mean a lot to share that passion with him even though he's already moved on

  10. Add-On Item - Cat6 cable!!!

  11. Most expensive item -It's actually the guitar, so I went with the 2nd most expensive which is a Logitech G19 keyboard Nope. It's actually this amp.

  12. Bigger than a bread box - Mizuno backpack

  13. Smaller than a golf ball - Not sure if a k-cup would count, but I threw it in there. If it doesn't count, I will find something else It doesn't. Here's some ship and anchor cufflinks I really want for my wedding :)

  14. Something that smells wonderful - Kind of cheating, but a different k-cup. Donut shop coffee is the BEST. Changed to a different beverage. I have a horrible addiction to this stuff, and it smells wonderful (to me)

  15. SFW Toy - Legos are a toy!! :D

  16. Helpful going back to school - I listed the Zen Garden again because it's helpful to have something peaceful when going back to school

  17. Something related to your current obsession - I am OBSESSED with Lorde. I have stated this many times over the last week.

  18. Something amazing/awe inspiring - SERIOUSLY. LOOK AT THIS FUCKING CHAIR. THIS MOTHERFUCKER RIGHT HERE? THIS SHIT FOLDS UP SO YOU CAN CARRY IT. NOT GOOD ENOUGH? SHIT, SON. THIS BITCH HAS TWO ARMRESTS FOR YOUR LAZY ASS. STILL BITCHING? GUESS WHAT DICKLIPS, THIS BITCH HAS TWO CAN HOLDERS AND A FUCKING COOLER. YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO GET YOUR BITCH ASS UP TO GET A DRINK, BAM, YOU ALREADY GOT ONE. IT EVEN HAS A POUCH TO HOLD YOUR OTHER SHIT, IF ALL OF THIS ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU NEED TO HAVE THIS CHAIR.

BONUS #1 - I looked through your reddit history (not very hard, but I did look), and came up empty, so I'll just post something later that might fit.

BONUS #2 - These blankets are made in Oregon, and look SUPER cool. Not on my WL (I have more than enough blankets), but I really like them.

I may attempt the bonuses tomorrow, we will see. This is definitely a placeholder until rulings on some items are made. Fix'd :D

This one looks like it might be big enough!!

Some other suggestions would be to look for a public park or something similar with gazebos or other buildings you could utilize.
Does the couple have a favorite restaurant or museum, brewery etc? If they do, contact the space and see if they would allow you to photograph there, maybe in exchange you could give the location some final edits to use promotionally?

u/Jedibrad · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

This is the one I have. It's pretty decent; it's pretty lightweight, but it doesn't feel too flimsy. It seems like it'll last a reasonably long time, especially for $20.

u/CaffeinatedGuy · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This ;)

Okay, I can't pick just one, so I present you the following. As you'll notice, all three are practical items, but that's because most people would/could use them all.

Most comfortable keyboard I've ever used.

Best remote control ever. Seriously, this thing is easy to program and can be customized any way you want. It's only limitation is the 5 device limit, but that's still enough for most (even me!). This is the model I have, but you may find another model by the same brand that better suits you.

This umbrella is not only head-turning cool, it's also really great quality that's above and beyond what you would expect from something that looks like a novelty. It's even cooler to me because I actually do Japanese swordsmenship, and the other members of our club/dojo are jealous.

I have a collection, to go with different outfits. My most frequently used is water lilies, and when I'm daring I'll carry my freak show parasol, as my boyfriend calls it. I also have a more minimalist, classic parasol and a vintage parasol in mustard yellow cotton, cut in the shape of a flower with bamboo and a waterfall on it. For when you simply must have the oddest sunshade. I also recently acquired a parasol in black that has a night sky inside, but it is trash. It's an awful vinyl and the first time I opened it, it opened inside out. It has a terrible handle, and an impossible to operate slide on the shaft.

After losing my umbrella to a wind gust I just Googled "strongest umbrellas" and got one off Amazon for $20. There were some more expensive ones, but this had stellar reviews and has held up very well through some strong wind. Just be aware there are different diameters, so make sure you don't get a tiny one (unless that's what you're going for) :)

This Totes umbrella is the best I've come across. I don't care for "golf" umbrellas and those mini umbrellas don't strike me as particularly useful or appealing.

I have this one. It's compact and holds up well in wind.

I use this: https://www.amazon.ca/Lewis-Clark-413-Black-One-Size-Automatic/dp/B000F1RGBU

It's held up against strong winds and it's relatively cheap.

I think I need to find some kind of malleable material and roll it into a tube or a cone shape if the pre made tubes can't fit.

And this is why I always walk in London with my samurai sword on my back...those Walking Dead episodes taught me a lot. You must always be ready to defend yourself.

It doesn't rain all that much in Georgia, but when I'm anticipating it I carry an umbrella on me. Usually I just leave it in my car though. My brother gave me one of these for my birthday years ago and that's typically what I use. I don't care for umbrellas enough to spend money on a different one, and I kind of like this anyway - it's large enough to cover myself and my bag, pretty sturdy, and neat looking.

I'm usually also a vampire myself, perhaps we can hang out one night in TC after I get situated in the new apartment. I do love a good pickle.

For them rainy days...

Get some of these super cute umbrellas: Clear Umbrellas and rock it! Here's a photo I took in the rain this past fall: Rainy Day Wedding

It could of been a tactical umbrella.

This umbrella fits perfectly in the Umbrella holder in the Driver and Front Passenger doors!

If size and collapsibility (I know that isn't a real word!) are important factors for you, this one is amazing:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B000F1RGBU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I previously had a Fulton collapsible that lasted quite a few years, but when it finally broke, I did some online research and the above model got rave reviews everywhere (in camping magazines, umbrella tests, Amazon reviews, etc.). For the size and price, it is very well-made and it has never given me trouble during heavy rain and wind. I carry it around in my bag every day in case of unexpected rain, and it would even fit in a purse.

June 18th! Woo!

  • I wrote out a detailed list of all decorations last night for my day of coordinator so she knows what goes where.

  • I just finalized my popsicle cart! I'm getting wedding cake and peach flavors to match our wedding cake!
  • I just transferred the remainder of our wedding money from savings to checking so I can start paying people without worrying about exceeding transfer limits (the little things I think about)
  • I emailed my venue this morning with the final guest count! 98!
  • Just venmoed final payment to my officiant

    My to-do list

  • Packing this week
  • Flying to Charleston on Saturday! The forecast is looking like there's a chance of rain so I bought this umbrella on Amazon

  • Once we're in town and the probate judge office opens on Monday, we'll be applying for our marriage license!

  • I have a ton of decorations to put together which I can't do until we're in South Carolina, so I'm looking forward to being Martha Stewart for a week. Chalkboard signs, centerpieces, floral wall, etcetera, etcetera.

  • Finalize gifts for the wedding party and parents
  • Pay everyone else.

My bridal shower is next Friday! We're getting our nails done and then having luncheon! I'm ready to do this!

Is there such a thing as a tactical umbrella? I'd probably buy it

u/redct · 1 pointr/travel

I've been pretty happy with the Lifetek travel umbrella. Easily fits into bags as I usually keep mine in the water bottle pocket of a backpack. It's also stood up to some pretty crazy winds. They also have a 2 year warranty which they are good about honoring - I accidentally dropped the umbrella out of a third story window which cracked the handle (long story) and they replaced it, no questions asked.

u/daniu · 1 pointr/worldnews

Yeah, [I have one of those] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004UQV0X6).

u/nialtheho · 1 pointr/volt

I bought this cheap umbrella on Amazon (link) and it's worked out fine for the few times we've needed it. It can occasionally slide forward into the door pocket but for the most part it's just fine.

u/bloodguard · 1 pointr/volt

I have a LifeTek Automatic (Wind Resistant Frame). I fits in the door holder easily but honestly I usually just toss it onto the passenger side floor during the rainy season.

Very sturdy. Auto open and, more importantly, auto close.

u/WhatDidIDoNow · 1 pointr/pics

If anyone is interested in knowing what kind of umbrella it is check out this link. I couldn't help but notice "Holy crap, I have that same umbrella!" Kind of a waste of a good umbrella if you ask me though... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001W9QUIE/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I swear I'm not being facetious, but this one is pretty awesome.

Now, I know you're thinking 'that'll look stupid' -- but that's because you're thinking with your critical hat on. I bought one of these this time last year (was sick of crappy collapsible umbrellas always breaking), and have received countless compliments. The fact that it has a samurai handle isn't immediately obvious, and the people that do notice think 'heh, that's pretty cool.'

I know this is MFA, but consider this; have you ever seen an unfashionable samurai?
