Reminds me of Verdi

My favorite childhood book :)

u/sivvus · 12 pointsr/BeardedDragons

I’m planning on releasing it on Kindle first; the minimum page count for paperback is more than my stories and I’m not sure which other sites could be used. So when I have enough stories I’m planning on doing a collection.

The other kid’s book I have out is called Tiny’s Christmas Party about a tortoise who has always wanted to see Christmas, but who can’t because he hibernates(!)

Thank you for being so nice about my stories. :-)

Amazon sells them. I don't get any royalties, I'm just excited to have something that anyone on Earth can get.

Hands Off, Harry! By Rosemary Wells and Personal Space Camp By Julia Cook. both cover this pretty well (my kid randomly brought them home from the library a few years ago)

Just bought it myself, I had the same thought.

I got mine off of amazon but I know it's also available at Barns & Noble, Target,Walmart,
Indiebound, Books-A-Million, and the scholastic website. Amazon is cheapest if you order online, particularly if you have prime.

am i the only one who thought of this?

One of them is wearing a silly hat, another wrote a letter, another called and said thanks... another had an in-person conversation.

His was returned with an explanation.

Anyone want to send him copies of Yurtle the Turtle?

And in terms of more story books, try Ally-saurus and the Very Bossy Monster, Bossy Flossy or Franklin is Bossy. Another good one might be Friendship is Like a Seesaw. Let me know if she finds any of these helpful! :)

Fantastic Beast and Where to Find them has a novel screenplay, it is final script used for the film.

One where my 5 year old (5 1/2) reads basic books. No, not super simple basic, but kids books. Most of her kindergarten class can read sentences.

Edit: OK, maybe we're lucky that she can read so well at an early age, we work with her a lot at home and get her lots of library books to read. I know most of her class reads, I guess maybe not as well as she does though. I didn't think it was something unbelievable though. This is the book she read me yesterday, "A Girl and Her Gator" Granted, the French words messed her up.

Edit #2: I just recorded her reading if you're interested.

This isn't specifically about gender, but my daughter really liked Franklin's Secret Club and it is all about including friends.

u/spellingchallanged · 2 pointsr/westworld

Films usually start with a screenplay but few are actually published. We typically don't refer to any films that started as a written screenplay as a "film/book."

A unique recent example is the published Fantastic Beasts Screenplay. It's confusing because Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a completely separate published book, and it is the source material for both the screenplay and movie.

I don't know of anything great for kids on fossil crocodylians, but there are definitely kids' books on living alligators and a few on crocodiles. There are a few on Sarcosuchus like this and this They don't get the press that dinosaurs get.

A friend gave me this pop-up book as a gift and it has a couple crocodylomorphs in it (extinct non-crown-group crocs). That whole series seems to hit on fossil taxa that other books don't. The book itself is a little fragile but it's really gorgeous.

This book is a good basic reference on all the living species. It's not a kids' book, and it's advanced for a young child.

u/barleycorm · 2 pointsr/Parenting

I don't have any direct experience with my child needing IV or anesthesia, but this book may be a fun and approachable way for your child to learn about it.

That book specifically does have Franklin the turtle receiving an IV, so the "sleep medicine" can help him before he has surgery.

When an ill family member was in the hospital with tubes/needles/oxygen/etc. it was kind of scary for a 2-3 year old, but we could relate things back to "...just like Franklin." and it helped him understand and not be scared.

u/Prof_Cecily · 2 pointsr/gameofthrones

Because of the book she's holding?
The book looks very like an edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

As a kid, I always really loved Stellaluna and Verdi. Another favorite was Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse (and other Leo Leonni books in general!).

Big Brother has never read to me, though I've never asked him to. I'm more of a Middle most of the time anyway, though taking a bath and being read a story would be sorta silly and fun. ;P

As for non picture I love the Jon Bellairs books.

Verdi

It's a story about getting older, basically, and why nobody should be in a hurry to grow up.

Donkey

Manx

skink

Would an HP fan enjoy this as well?

Green eggs and ham. Oh how many times have we read that book here? Millions? Surely. I think your daughter (aged 1) might love any of the Margaret Wise Brown books. Our personal favorite was Big Red Barn. Because children's books are my absolute passion though, I'm going to throw out a couple more. If your daughter loves to look at faces (mine did) - I loved this book, Global Babies. It's a picture board book and the photography is stunning. My daughter also loved Touch and Feel books, have you guys tried those? And if she likes bright colors, my daughter loved Planting a Rainbow.

Can I throw out a few for later? Just because I love these books so much. A lesser known book that came to me by chance and became my favorite thing ever is Open Me, I'm a Dog by Art Spiegelman. Also, make sure that you get Janell Cannon's books, Verdi and Stellaluna as she gets older, especially if she is an animal lover. Stellaluna can be scary though, or at least it was for my daughter, so in a few years might be best. OH and we love the Alexander books.

My son is a wee bit obsessed with the Lego Movie, which is odd since we still haven't seen it. But he's wanting to read this novel about it for $4.61.

Mostly though, I wanted to talk about books. And kids. Because I love them both very much. Thanks for a great contest!

Lobsters - Gangsters of the sea

I haven't actually read it, but man does the title crack me up :)

Also, the one review it's gotten so far is great: "Ordered a totally different game. My son was very disappinted."

You might be thinking of The Mysterious Tadpole.

Very cool book.

This reminds me of this one book I read when I was younger. It was called Life-Size Dragons. It contains tons of 'facts' and seemed completely legit to a young, impressionable me. There should be obvious disclaimers for these kinds of things.
