How is the scanlation behind even the physical release? Each English volume has 2 Japanese volumes and the 3rd one is coming out Nov 20th

u/spengineer · 16 pointsr/manga

It's being released by VIZ in english. But I can also see up to volume 5 online, so there are people working on it, I suppose.

A Silent Voice quickly became one of my favorite stories in fiction ever. The manga is fantastic. Chapter 51 is my favorite single chapter of manga ever. If you're interested in buying it physically, Amazon has a box set of all 7 volumes for only $47 right now. Plus it comes with a small poster and a cool replica of Shouko's notebook.

The 4th volume of the English release, which will contain the 7th and 8th volumes of the Japanese release, is set to come out on June 9, 2020.

The same reason people use for example "SaeKano" (Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata) instead of "How to raise a boring girlfriend". They get used to the name of the series when it has not been translated yet (i.e. when there is no official english title yet) and then they just keep using the name because all the discussion boards/manga databases etc. use it and it would be a hassle to switch over. Even myanimelist only shows the english names as "synonyms" and offers the japanese names in the search results when you search for the english title. This then of course also leads to people sometimes not understanding what series you talk about because they ONLY know the japanese name, especially when it's one of those long ass names for which people then use an abbreviation (e.g. "SaeKano").

You can click on the manga link under the banner above. There are actually a couple manga, the @comic one is being translated into English and I really like it. Vol. 1 through 3 are out already and Vol. 4 & 5 can be preordered.

volume 1: https://www.amazon.com/Youth-Romantic-Comedy-Wrong-Expected/dp/0316312304/ref=pd_sim_14_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=0316312304&pd_rd_r=A1BJ6BKV4ADN35ASD7P9&pd_rd_w=aqyfk&pd_rd_wg=KlaL9&psc=1&refRID=A1BJ6BKV4ADN35ASD7P9

The "monologue" manga is ok

Nothing released yet goes beyond S2, everything is based on the series of light novels that ended with volume 11 which is where season 2 ended.

The long-awaited volume 12 will continue the story and it is coming out April 18th, but will be in Japanese of course. We hope a fan translator will do that one so we can see what happens!

Volumes 5 and 6 are already out in Japan; the English edition releases on 20 November.

I don’t want to sound repetitive but honestly give the light novel a try, is much better than the movies, there’s more scenes between them too, and also there’s much more words that she left behind [ farewell letters] Kyoko letter was cut, also the events of each days too... so please give it a try (amazon link)

u/Amauri14 · 4 pointsr/manga

We are safe! Tomo-chan is back! By the way if you are in the US don't forget to buy the hiatus bringers volumes 1 & 2 once they are released.

I just hope that this means that there is an upcoming anime announcement coming soon.

So Marty finally got that thing he bought refunded. He's got 11.99 in credit now... What should I buy?

I'm thinking either Horimiya Vol2 or "Drawing on the right side of the brain"... A book to help me learn to draw sounds nice, but I'm doubtful... But so many people seem to have good results. What do you guys think?

Edit: How to make friends and influence people is also an option... or maybe a western comic? It's been a while since I've read one of those!

What the fuck is this manga, or rather - what is this cover art?!

Hello, I’m glad that you’ve been enjoying the subreddit so far, and are interested in the amazing light novel series! However, the linking of copyrighted material, such as pirated PDF files, is prohibited by Reddit Content Policy. While I cannot provide links to pirated material, there are legal and highly recommended ways in which to support the series. This includes purchasing physical copies of the Light novel series, which is being translated into English by Seven Seas Entertainment. Links to the publisher site are provided below, and you can find a list of online/physical retail stores carrying the series, as well as release schedules of the English translation. I have also provided links to Ebook copies of the light novel below, I hope this response helps!

I may be remembering wrongly, so take what I say with loads of salt.

Shouko was bullied, yes, but blames herself for being deaf, and so is sorry for existing and being a bother to her family, society etc for having to accommodate her and so on, so much so that she had wished she'd be dead in her younger years, which was what made the younger sister want to protect her from others and picking up death photography to dissuade her from the idea of death.

As for the male lead, I'd say he eventually won her heart for being one of the firsts from her past encounters to come out, apologise, willing to hang out of her, and even bringing friends she never knew she had, with varying degrees of success of course. He was the boy she eventually lashed out at for all the bullying, but she was more... (Mad? Sad?) for being deaf, for being different.

I'm sorry, not good at these discussions like those r/manga or r/anime discussions. I'd really recommend reading the original source though, you can either read the english licensed ones from e.g. Amazon, Kobo, Bookdepository, Google Play Books, or borrow from Overdrive if you are in the right region or check if your local library/ comic seller has them. Or read the scanlated version or ahem pirate it.

Oh, and here's a translated special chapter that came with the release of the movie in Japan, just a little side story. Read the panels from right to left, just like any other manga.

There's still a pre-order link up on Amazon.Ca for it, with a release date of June 2020. Amazon.Com's is 'currently unavailable at this time'. Not a lot of other web hits searching for the ISBN number.

u/G_L_J · 3 pointsr/manga

The Garden of Words is another good oneshot I recommend. It also has a movie, both of which I found to be enjoyable. Unfortunately I don't have any other recommendations that are under 5 volumes in length but these are ones that I would recommend.

The Evangelion Omnibus has 5 mega volumes out and is finished (about $100 plus tax) - 14 total volumes. Claymore is quite a bit longer but it has a box set of all 27 volumes for about $140 (~5$ each volume) and it seems right in line with your interests, just shop around for the best price online.

If you're into rom-coms then:

  • Monster Musume has 8 volumes out and is ongoing (slow releases; next release is in september)

  • Ninja Girls has 9 volumes out and is finished.

  • Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches has 8 volumes out and is ongoing.

While not manga, Bryan Lee O'Malley has Scott Pilgrim (6 volumes) and Seconds (one shot) - both of which I highly recommend.

    edit: links in the doobly-doo

I am planning to buy The Garden of Words, Orange, Attack on titan. All of this is already exceeding my budget by about 500 rs. If I somehow save money I would probably buy more hahaha

> Friend likes "romantic" manga and emotional stuff with happy endings

I would recommend the Koe no Katachi box set for this, if they already don't have this manga.

> Are there any websites you'd recommend that I search to find the stuff folks have been commenting on? I just have no clue where to even look to buy this sort of thing.

Amazon is typically your go-to. Bookdepository also has a great collection and has free shipping internationally (to select countries), so there's that.

> Will stuff that I buy in print also include some kind of translation or something to English? How do people usually read in-print manga?

The language should be specified on the page. Many popular manga are released officially in English, so shouldn't be all that hard to find them.

If you're going for artbooks, then finding out their favourite mangaka helps. This way you might be able to get something from them or close to their style of work.

https://www.amazon.com/How-Raise-Boring-Girlfriend-Vol/dp/0316269190 This is why. Official translations of 1-4 exist.

u/Tehbeefer · 1 pointr/news

So this seems like a decent time to plug the manga A Silent Voice, which tells the story of a boy who tormented a deaf girl in his class. It's really well done, I really like how it has the guts and nuance to encourage the reader to empathize with hating the bullying victim at least a little, as well as seeing things from the perspective of friends or relatives.

u/gaiden_ninja · 1 pointr/KoeNoKatachi

Ive read them both, and while the manga does have more content and character development because of the movie the friends made together. I wasnt so interested in that part and wished the author went in a different direction personally.

I personally think the manga and the movie are equally good. But this isnt the opinion of most people. So take it with a grain of salt.

This box set for all 7 volumes is what I got and its pretty cheap too. A Silent Voice Complete Series Box Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/1632366436/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aqJIDb0SX2MFV
