You can definitely wear socks with your five-fingers. In fact, I find wearing socks with mine to be more comfortable than going without.
They are also the same price on Amazon if you prefer to order from them instead.
Found them on Amazon for 19.99

I needed to pick up a couple extra pair of running shorts, so I went the budget route and snagged two pairs of Soffe shorts for less than $20.
Pros:
Cons:
In all seriousness, if you need some extra warm-weather shorts, you're not gonna go wrong with these things, and your wallet will thank you (now put down your talking wallet and go run).
(Side note: if you want to read some hilarious Puritan commentary, just Google "Ranger panties" to get endless blog posts about Soffes and how very, very uncomfortable they make people.)
Silkies.
Make sure you go with one size smaller than he wears so his fellow Marines can see shaft veins.
[Champion hoodies] (https://www.amazon.com/Champion-Powerblend-Pullover-Hoodie-Medium/dp/B01HIUTC9O/ref=pd_sim_193_5?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=E8R975A32TAW025XBJB1&th=1&psc=1) are cheap and come in many different colors.

The only shorts you will ever need for PT or for lifting are silkies. Good enough for the Marine Corps, you bet your limp dick they are more than good enough for you. Read the reviews, then go buy a couple pairs of these nut huggers. You will feel naked in them, your quads will pop, you will slay pussy. Jokes aside, original silkies are only for those with extreme alpha masculine confidence and a hard-on for USMC they aren't afraid to hide. You may recognize that Arnold and Stallone exercised in these exact same style PT shorts. Need I say more? If you got quads to rock these go for it, if not get the newer era version which are slightly less revealing but equally amazing to workout in.

I like to run in Ranger Panties. You will too. Read the reviews.
Ranger Panties, because you don't skip leg day.
Soffees or silkies as what we called them in the service. I don’t have mine handy but they’re around the 3.5-4oz weight. Great shorts for hiking in if you don’t mind showing some thigh.
https://www.amazon.com/Soffe-197V-SR459A01-Large-Mens-Running-ShortBlackMED/dp/B003AU5VZQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525925510&sr=8-1&keywords=soffees+mens+shorts
Also- if you want to be viewed as a European and not robbed as an American, skip the long board shorts and go short.
When I go to the product page for those shorts it says they cost from $9.90 to $35.24, depending on size. But when I click on each size, they're all $27.99. Bad Bezos!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003AU5W5K/ref=cm_cr_srp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
I dunno how short you like 'em...
But these are the most comfortable things to ever caress my balls while working out. The reviews are also pretty great.
I have like 3 of these. I really like em, it's my go to hoodie. Great for layering imo.
They're the same price on Amazon for me. I'd rather get it there.
You don't need anything except shorts and shoes for the next 5 months in most of the US. Buy last years shoes and $11 shorts http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003AU5VZ6/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Can't go wrong with silkies/ranger panties. That is the only short I work out in. https://www.amazon.com/Soffe-Ranger-Panty-Running-Medium/dp/B003AU5W1Y/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=silkies&qid=1567719774&s=gateway&sr=8-3
Soffe Men's Running Short,Black,MED https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003AU5VZQ/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_JRkMub12F7NWF
Picked this one up when they were on sale for $14. Should be able to get one for around $20.
I wear [VitalSox] (https://www.amazon.com/Vitalsox-VT1211-Graduated-Compression-Performance/dp/B004BKIPXO) for work and love them. At first they felt like they were squishing my legs, but I got used to them pretty quick. That being said, they come off IMMEDIATELY when I get home...but so do the rest of my clothes.
Great, just running down your list here are my thoughts:
An SMD Lunar Solo would be 10oz lighter and $70 cheaper while still offering similar features and roominess. Granted you'd need a trekking pole. Mine weigh 5oz each and cost $60 for the pair, and they're nice to have for stream crossings and up and downhills.
The $40 Soto Amicus stove outperforms the $34 Pocket Rocket 2 in every metric and is pretty similar to the $70 PR Deluxe.
I'm not a fan of sporks, and much prefer a spoon, your milage may vary. This 75 cent spoon is similar to what I have and it's lasted me 25 years. Mine weighs .38oz
You don't need a canister stand
When I've camped in the Mojave I just slept with my food in an Opsack. In Yosemite you'll need a bear can but you can probably rent one or wait to purchase for when the time comes. If you're camping in an area where a bear hang is recommended then you can get a pre-made bear bag kit or just make one with a stuff sack and some good throwing line.
I have some merino shirts but only wear them in the colder shoulder seasons because they're too warm for me when hiking in summer. They're also really pricey. You could get a $10 quick drying t-shirt like this, or a synthetic long sleeve collared shirt from the thrift store or a Silver Ridge, to protect your arms and neck from the sun and bugs.
How modest do you want to be with shorts? Ranger panties are popular for being so light and have a great range of motion. Generic soccer shorts work well. Patagonia Baggies are popular.
For a rain jacket it's hard to beat the Frog Toggs UL2 for price and weight. I went to my local walmart and tried them on to find a good size. ~$18
For long pants I'd suggest Body Wrapper dance pants. Light, cheap, breathable, comfortable, windproof, keep the bugs away, surprisingly warm when sitting around camp.
I don't bring sleep clothes, just sleep in my hiking clothes.
Med kit suggestions- leukotape strips on a quick release sheet for blister prevention and bandages, a few sterile gauze pads to make bandages with the leukotape, ibuprofen for pain and swelling, anti-diarrheal pills, small dropper of dr bronners soap for cleaning wounds
Things you're missing:
Edit: a tip for lighterpack- there is a field for price and it'll add up the prices per category for you, making a running tally a little easier. there's also a link field which could maybe help you keep track of links to things you might want to buy.
Once you've dialed in the list a little better, if you discover you're way under your budget then you could always consider upgrading something, like spending $100 more for a 10oz zpacks Hexamid Solo tent. Also, if you end up at a light enough weight, you could jump to a 14oz frameless pack which would be awesome.
gamers help gamers
Definitely don't look up what USMC Silkies are. They're not the most comfortable shorts in the world at all. Nope.

Also, great fit and dig the sox

oh, ranger panties. I do need more shortyshorts.

I think he is referring to these Soffe shorts which the military refers to as "Ranger Panties" as they are a part of the PT uniform.

These are the ones i use and recommended in a different thread: https://www.amazon.com/Vitalsox-Patented-Graduated-Compression-VT1211/dp/B004BKIPXO They are really quite breathable, though i usually take them off when i wake up.
Semper Fidelis.
I have been getting some blisters on my KSO EVOs recently too. I think it’s the thing that goes across the top of the foot that digs in when it our feet flex.
I have been using Injinji Lightweight No-Show toesocks when my feet are blistered. They work very well. Personally, I wouldn’t use a toesock any thicker than that one for VFFs, so I’d recommend against using wool ones (especially if it’s warm out — I have a pair and they’re super warm).
I did 19 miles in the KSO EVOs on Sunday and my feet were bleeding pretty badly, lol.
Edit: these toesocks
Highly recommend [these.]
(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TSLYU5I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FT-5AbW2E56NF) Add compression and I was able to do the rope bridge with no burns or visible damage to the socks.
Got the Garmin Forerunner 25 for $130 this past weekend and I'm loving it. GPS is crazy accurate and the battery so far is holding a great charge (it's still reading as full after only the initial charge on Saturday and several runs between then and now). Syncing with mapmyrun is instant once I get back to my place and it syncs with my phone.
My girlfriend got new shoes, ONs. Anyone have experience with them? She tried on about half a dozen this past weekend at our local running store and instantly liked the ONs. We've been doing a lot of trail running recently though and she's had issues with rocks getting caught on the bottom.
Oh, and what do people think of these running shorts? They're so damn cheap I want to buy like a dozen.

Champion Powerblend Fleece Joggers
Best fitting ones I've found. I'm 5'11" and they're the perfect length, are roomy in the thighs but taper nicely down to the ankle cuff for a slim silhouette. They've been on sale on Amazon and at other retailers for $20 for a few weeks now. Great price for the quality.
I wear silkies and I maintain they they are the best shorts for working out in.

Soffe has a lot of really good, quality silkies. They're honestly the cheapest I can find while still maintaining some durability.

Silkies that I have left over from the Marines. 'Tis a shame they're no longer authorized for PT there.
Get some silkies!

These bad boys have a pocket in the front on the inside of the shorts. Toss in an iPod shuffle (the little bitty ones) and it's like nothing is there!
https://www.amazon.com/MJ-Soffe-Mens-Running-Short/dp/B003AU5W5K if you don't care about fashion. These are literally "ranger panties" ie the PT shorts issued to Army Rangers/Green Berets etc. Pure nylon so super lightweight and dry quickly, and have a built in liner to hold everything in place without underwear.
I own the DT Coolmax Vertex ultra-light socks with no cushion and they still make my toes sweat just sitting at my desk. There is not enough breathability in the toebox. I really love my Injini toe socks because it handles toe sweat and blistering.
Injinji socks are the only ones I'll run more than a mile in. Don't get the thinnest liner ones, they will wear out. Get these
I saw a thread somewhere where someone cut the waistband off of their hoodie, ended up working out well. Maybe give that a try. My gildan hoodies do the same thing to me. Champion hoodies fit well though, and the powerblend ones are pretty good while still being in the gildan price range.
check out vitalsox. https://www.amazon.com/Vitalsox-Patented-Graduated-Compression-VT1211/dp/B004BKIPXO
my buddy in the ED swears by them, picked up a few pairs myself and aint turning back. They don't offer much in the cushioning department but that graduated compression really makes a difference
It would go great with these.
i've been rewearing these joggers a lot because they fit perfectly and they're cheap AF, but it's kind of embarrassing because with the logo you can tell that i'm rewearing clothes a lot. anything that fits similar (and is relatively cheap)?

>In my case, these
You should totally try these. They've got a 2" inseam and are about half the price($11). I have two pairs and give them a big would recommend.
While a bit pricier($34), you can also get them in American Flag Print, Texas Flag Print or Camo Print.

I love these running shorts for Soffe. It's technically men's but I have about 7 pairs of these. Very light, built in liner and soft (but not wide) elastic that doesn't give me muffin top.
For indoor use, I wouldn't use cell phone or even GPS watch. You'd be better off using the watch.
My gf says that if it wasn't for her, I would wear those in public. Damn right I have!

This is hard because we don't actually know the guy or how he likes to indulge in his hobbies. People can camp, hike, and fish in a bunch of different ways. I enjoy all of these things though, so what I'm gonna do is give you my xmas list and that will hopefully give you some ideas! :)

I know it might be slightly off topic but can anyone recommend me some shorts with a liner? I used to run with some jockey underwear and a pair of basketball type shorts, but there was a thread on here last week where a lot of guys recommended going commando / shorts-with-liner.
I had a pair of Soffe Ranger-Panty running shorts (link) I bought a while ago and so tried them out and actually really liked them. They're very comfortable, but they're just so short lol.
I was hoping maybe someone could recommend me a pair of running shorts that is the same style but has a bit longer length on it?
Thanks my dudes!
Btw here in AZ it's getting up into the triple digits now (Fahrenheit) so definitely good advice here. Drink lots of water :)
I bought a few of these and am pretty happy with them:

Soffe shorts. Most comfortable daytime thing I wear.

Pretty god damn short, sir.
Invest in some good shoes and some good socks. ESPECIALLY socks. And I really mean invest, don't just keep buying cheap ones if you can avoid it. They make a world of difference.
I just started Couch to 5k a few weeks ago and invested in some new running shoes and some running socks - these things look silly as fuck, but are my jam - and my feet never hurt now.
Also, a bunch of people in my gym swear by a tiny bit of vinegar to take out the sweat stains/smell. Haven't tried it yet personally, but apparently it's a miracle worker.
And lastly, good job!
I wear cotton t-shirts (the cheapo Hanes kind that come in plastic bags) and I'm comfortable pretty much year-round. If I know I'm going to be sweating a lot I'll use those little round band-aids for my nips, but for the most part it's not an issue.
Gray or white cotton Hanes shirt + these shorts in navy + sometimes a headband, is a preferred look.
For running shorts, no substitute for silkies! My military friends love them irrationally
edit: They call them silkies. We can buy them as Soffes
Yup. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003AU5VZ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9S3nxb4CZF543

Ahh, the area where you need a sled dog team to escape, gotcha.
Here's one. (Warning: toe socks are best socks)
Here's another.
And here's the one I'd referenced re: cycling socks that I run in sometimes when not biking in them (the Areator line is pretty solid, though generally I like pirate motifs for my cycling socks)

I love super short shorts, but, having a large penis, I am forced to abandon them. also because of chafing.

but I have to wear them with compression shorts also, mainly for chafing. Actually I haven't tried without, I will sometime. They are longer though. 3.5"
Soffe Men's Ranger Panty Running Short,Od Green,Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003AU5W1Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XwozCb1G3YBKJ
June of 2017 I had just bought a brand new truck and had a little time off of work so I decided to take a road trip around the country (USA) to see friends and family. I was on my way to Kansas from visiting my sister in Georgia and had to stop for gas around 1am. Well, me being a little naive and pretty tired I didn't realize where I was at, I had stopped at a gas station on the north side of St. Louis. I drive up to the pump and there's 3 other cars there and as I get out of my truck I can feel everyone in the gas station staring at me, I realized that I was the only white person there (which is what it is). I go into the gas station to put money on the pump and the gas station attendant (GSA) looks at me and says
GSA: You don't know where you're at do you? You should probably stay in your truck while you fill up.
Me: Okay? I appreciate it.
I go back out to start filling up and this drug dealer (DD) (side note, he was really friendly) comes speed walking up to me
DD: Boy, those shorts are way too short. You need to change. You gay or somethin'?
(When I go on long road trips I wear "ranger panties" a little shorter than these.)
Me: haha These are my traveling shorts. They've gotten me out of 3 tickets and they're super comfortable.
DD: Ahh shit, that makes sense.
At this point dude was pretty close to me, about the same distance you'd be while having a private conversation with a close friend in a crowded room. He leans in a little more and digs something out of his lip.
DD (whispering): You want some of this? It's good shit! (Has a dime bag of what I'm assuming was crack in his hand.)
Me: Naw, I'm good man. I appreciate it though.
DD: Alright, have a good night brother.
Me: You too man.
He walked into the gas station and I finished filling up and got out of there as quickly as I could. And that was the time I got offered crack in St. Louis at 1am. Definitely the weirdest encounter I've had with a stranger so far.

I am shopping for summer clothes now. get tighter v neck or scoop neck tops that expose your chest have a hint of femininity. although if your a muscular dude it becomes masculine because it shows off your massive muscles lol. and shorts is the same, get tighter and shorter shorts that expose more leg. there's also shorts that are split which makes it more feminine. hell you could just wear men's running shorts and most people will assume its women shorts
Soffee mens running shorts are quite popular, design looks androgynous enough

BOA vs Soffe shorts? (I'm a dude if that matters)
Boring backstory: I'm getting back into running, just coming off anbackpacking trip so my cardio is in really good shape so my motivation is good.
Previously I wore generic above-the-knee synthetic shorts but they're a little snug because I'm about 20 lbs heavier than I was when I was into running. I want to pick up a pair of "real" running shorts to try them. I'm leaning towards BOA for dat 1" inseam for motivation to get good-looking legs again and so I can get this and this pattern specifically. Soffe is cheaper tho.
Soffe shorts. Feels like you're wearing nothing at all.
Amazon is definitely overwhelming but I've found their Baleaf shorts work fine. They're light, cheap, and have a 3" inseam. One note of caution - the "drop in pocket" is pretty much useless other than for storing a key and they don't have other pockets. I would also order a size up as they tend to run small. https://www.amazon.com/Baleaf-Quick-Dry-Lightweight-Running-Shorts/dp/B01FJPW94A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537995813&sr=8-1&keywords=baleaf+running+short
Pretty exclusively the Run 2.0 LW no-shows. Some colors stay softer longer than others. . . The black and the grey/green tend to get crusty even after washings after going through the swamp a bunch. The light grey and pink I've had last for 2+ years.
I always get a tiny little hole on the top of the big toe where the nail sometimes hits the top of the toebox in my shoes.
I've done 4 Spartan races - all sprints - but in a variety of temperatures and conditions.
I'm not about showing my junk either, so I go for a "superhero" style layering approach. Here's my go to gear:
For shoes, I've run 4 races and done lots of training in between in the same pair of Reebok Nano 4s. Not exactly specialized trail running/OCR shoes. But I just love their durability, foot protection, and their traction really shines on the climbing obstacles. I wouldn't mind upgrading but I just can't seem to wear this pair of shoes down! I expect they'll last at least another 4+ races.

Dog, I hate to break it to you - them shorts are not designed to attract women. If. You. Catch. My. Drift.
That being said, you can always go shorter.
I'm not 100% sure if it's what he's saying... But I've thoroughly been enjoying running in Soffes. https://www.amazon.com/MJ-Soffe-Mens-Running-Short/dp/B003AU5W5K
Hey guys, I own a couple of Champion reverse weave hoodies and I've been itching to buy more hoodies. However, the reverse weave hoodies aren't on sale right now (at least I think), and I really can't justify buying them full price.
I recently came upon this, and it seems to be a pretty good deal - $15 a piece for a Champion powerblend hoodie. I was just wondering how these compare quality-wise/fit-wise to the reverse weave hoodies. Are these okay hoodies?
Thanks!
I really like these military surplus running shorts that I bought on Prime Now when I was on a trip and forgot to bring shorts. They're not as good as the best running shorts I have, but they're a lot better than the worst and they're cheap and basic. They're kind of the ideal simple running short.
Or toe socks
Injinji 2.0 Men's Run Lightweight No Show Toesocks, Black, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AK8CGIG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zme0Db12EPBW7
I bought these ones. Highly recommended!
I had this exact problem and it didn't matter how much I ran or how big my callouses got, any run over 50 mins would give me some bad blisters. I ended up buying these Injinji socks which did wonders for the rubbing but still didn't help for the 15+ km runs. So I got a pack of these gel toe separators and I haven't had a blister since, I just tape the gel separator between my two toes on the outside of the socks.
I guess they would get worn down over time through kicking the heavy bag. That said, I used to train No Gi Jiu Jitsu with these on and they didn't wear down that much over 12 months of training in them 4 hours per week! (we did quite a lot of single and double leg takedowns which involved sliding the knees along the mats too and I didn't get any holes in mine).
The gym I box at is in an old farm outhouse building with wooden floors, it's very cold in there at the moment! I layer up my torso with a T-shirt and thick hoodie and usually find I feel pretty warm once I start moving around, I usually end up removing the hoodie after about 20 minutes because it's too hot!

Compression gear allows me to run without pain. Try it!
Last year I tried C25K, and had to stop after week 2 because my left IT band was killing me.
I signed up for the Nashville Sprint (my first Spartan race) a few weeks ago, and decided to start the C210K program. After the first run, my left IT band felt sore again. A coworker that runs marathons told me about compression gear (socks and knee sleeves). I bought some from Amazon, and now I can run without pain!
Here's the compression gear I use:
If you play in a humid summer environment... ditch the underwear and rock these.
Or they're trying to tan, or just be outside in comfy clothes? Have you never just stood out in your front lawn with short shorts and no shirt? It's hot out my dude. If you haven't stood outside wearing only short shorts then I suggest you buy some, and I'll do you one better and suggest my favorite short short. I just wear running shoes all the time so people think I'm on my way to jog, but I'm just being comfy!
