I've had mine a couple years and no weird smells and it's holding up great. It's really versatile too, I use it a lot when taking photos for my side business, it can raise up to almost standing height for me so I can easily go from standing to sitting or I can lower it to a table/desk height and use it that way. Plus, it lowers enough to be fully pushed under a table/desk so it saves space too.
OP, a saddle stool is great for longer standing games. A decent one will usually have a high lift that will get you to (almost) standing position.
