The fuckwits railing against garlic presses are the same fuckwits that want us to separate eggs with our fingers. It's like if you don't make a mess out of your hands, you aren't a real chef.

The argument about "wasting garlic" also tickles me pink. A head of garlic costs what, 70 cents? And you use how many cloves a day? I cook a couple meals a day and I'm hard-pressed to use up a head of garlic before it gets too dry to work with.

I also love people who say "it takes up too much room" as if they're backpacking with the fucking things. Maybe you live in a dorm, maybe you live in a submarine, maybe you live in a Toyota Tercel. If you live anywhere else, your kitchen has at least two drawers and I'll bet your silverware fits in one of them. What fits in the other drawer? Fucking everything else. If you don't have room for a garlic press in your life, fucking move. You're a grownup, get a real kitchen.

Then there's the "it's messy to clean" argument. Grow the fuck up. You pop a clove in, squeeze the bejeesus out of it, pass a knife over it, turn on the water with one hand, rinse the knife, flip the press backwards, hook a finger into it under running water, and put it in the dish strainer. Know what else needs to be cleaned when you use it? A juicer. a can opener. A knife. A plate. It's been my experience that the people who bitch about cleaning garlic presses are the ones that pre-measure their spices into little glass dishes. Fuck off.

But really, you know what? Garlic presses are fun. The only thing that beats them are meat grinders (which also take up a lot of room and are also awesome you whiny little bitches ever made bacon sausages I rest my case bitchez). You get to use your manly gripping strength to reduce an intricate and pungent little gem of nature into mutherfucking paste. Again and again and again. It's like cracking walnuts only without the crack and with tasty tasty putanesca as the result. Yeah, I can be a bitch and get out my fiddly little knife and cut fiddly little slices of fiddly little garlic so I can toss them in fiddly little olive oil and fiddly little stir them so they don't burn, but that's what bitches do. Heat, squeeze, clean, done. Grunt grunt, oooh yeah. In the amount of time it took you to cut your garlic into slivers I've made the sauce, boiled the pasta, eaten dinner and fucked my wife. And now your fingers smell like garlic whereas mine don't 'cuz that press that's such a bitch to clean? I can do that under running water and get on with my life. You, on the other hand, are stuck with a 4" Henckels and a jeweler's loupe because you're taking cooking instructions from Goodfellas. Douche.

In their defense, most people who hate garlic presses hate them because they're used to prissy pieces of shit or semi-functional testaments to dollars over sense. A garlic press should be like a hammer - heavy, ugly and utilitarian. If you aren't comfortable driving a nail with it, don't let it near your food.

And that's about all I have to say about garlic presses.

FOR MY PASTRY

it's more of a technique than a recipe... most pastries are more technique than recipe for that matter! The real trick is keeping the dough gold so the butter won't melt. if your butter melts it won't puff up right.

(oz measurements are by weight)

  • 12oz BREAD flour (put the flour in the freezer for about an hour first)
  • 10oz unsalted butter, cut in cubes and frozen (real butter people.. come on)
  • tsp kosher salt
  • about 12 tbsp ice water

    .. this is very simple:

  1. Put the flour out on the counter, then cut the butter into it until its crumbly butter pieces are about the size of a pea (that means to put the butter on the pile of flour then chop it up with a bench scraper like this dude)

  2. Now, mix the water in with the bench scraper (kind of a folding motion) about 2tbsp at a time until it's doughy... this is where the experience comes into play, you don't need to add all the water every time, just use your better judgement. Things you don't even think about can affect this, the humidity of the air in your kitchen for instance! too much water, and it's too heavy, not enough and it's brittle.

  3. When you've got that all done, you need to roll it out to about the size of a sheet of paper, now fold it in thirds.. (visualize it as 3 panels, fold the right panel over the center, then the left panel over the center)

  4. Now, whack it with the rolling pin until its about the size of a sheet of paper again, beat that bitch like it owes you money!

  5. rotate 90 degrees... fold, and beat it down again

  6. rotate 90 degrees... fold, and beat it down again (nope I didn't copy and paste on accident)

  7. rotate 90 degrees... fold, and beat it down again

  8. Now, fold it in half (but in quarters..?) imagine it's 4 panels, you want to fold the two outside panels in so they meet in the middle.

  9. Now fold it completely in half. (so the outside edges are in the center)

  10. Wrap that crap up in some parchment and shove it in the fridge for about an hour.

  11. When it comes time to use it, dust it with flour, roll it out to about 1/4 inch thick

I normally bake it at 350 for about 35 - 40 minutes, but I use a convection oven, so you'll have to play with the temp and time, 400 for about 25-30 minutes might be a good place for conventional ovens. Center rake by the way.

    For the filling:

I simply chop up some onions, carrots, celery, and mushroom, how ever much looks right, I just eyeball it. cook all that in about 1tbsp of olive oil, then when it's all looking nice and tender I toss in a stick of salted butter (8 tbsp) I add some dried thyme, salt, pepper and garlic powder (you could use fresh garlic to get a stronger flavor, but I like the thyme to be the star of the show) then I add some chicken, (just get a rotisserie chicken because i'm lazy) Then I dump in about a 1/2 cup of flour (it gets thick... this is a roux) then I slowly add in 1 1/2 cup of chicken stock, and 1/2 cup of milk. Whisk it up with the fury of god, then let it boil until it's nice and thick.

    Put it together

fill some ramekins, porcelain bowls, or whatever, with the filling, then slap some pastry on top... not too hard.

    Eating it

Use a fork, get some food on it, insert into mouth. yum.
u/epiphanette · 13 pointsr/Cooking

It's not in ingredients, it's the equipment. The french wardrobe of the kitchen is the battery de cuisine.

  • one good frying pan
  • one heavy saucepan
  • one dutch oven
  • one stock pot (because everyone should be making real home made stock all the time because a: they are better and b: we have got to cut down on food waste in this country)
  • a roasting pan
  • a thick handled slotted wooden spoon
  • a pair of solid tongs, a silicone scraper
  • a thick absorbent dish towel
  • a garlic press that actually works (this is the only one I've ever found that's worth spending any money on. You should not have to peel the cloves).
  • a whisk
  • a strainer
  • ONE good knife and the knowledge of how to sharpen it.

If you're clever this should all be able to nest and should fit in maybe two boxes. I used to move every few months and this was all I had and it's really all you need. Baking is different though. Baking is what leads to a kitchen full of gadgets.

Knife sets are generally recommended against around these parts, as you'll usually end up with a bunch of medium-quality knives you don't need for an inflated price tag. I'd recommend using the money to get one really nice chef's knife, a paring knife, and a cheap bread knife. Go for other specialty stuff if you need it - but this covers 99% of use cases. I've heard that Shun's are perfectly nice but perhaps a tad overpriced; I have a Masakage Kiri which has been serving me extremely well.

All Clad totally rules. I've been slowly building my collection of tri-ply. Well worth it. Same comment about sets - only go for it if you really want each piece. Cast iron skillets are fun but I'm not sure I would insist everyone go out and buy one.

Can't comment on the Dutch oven - I have a non-enameled Lodge cast iron, and if I had to start over I'd get an enameled one. Either the Staub or Le Creuset will serve you well.

Highly highly recommend the Thermapen, as already commented. Depending on what else you like to do - consider a good wood cutting board, a bench scraper, and some nice baking sheets / trays. Enjoy!

There are some organizational things you can get for kitchen cabinets.

I have one of these for my spices so that I can see what's in the back.

Something like this can help, too. I have a full size lazy susan in my pantry, because I have a habit of pushing stuff to the back and letting it sit there for a decade or two.

You can add extra shelves with something like this.

Good luck!

u/kaidomac · 7 pointsr/ViteRamen

So I've put together a decent quick-mix meal-prep approach for Vite-ramen: (nice for added nutrition/flavor & to customize to hit your macros for the day!)

  1. Vite-Ramen (mushroom, chicken, pork)
  2. Sous-Vide meat (beef, chicken, pork)
  3. Sous-Vide eggs (soft-boiled, poached, onsen/ramen)
  4. Sliced veggies (radishes, mushrooms, spring onions, etc.)
  5. Cubed veggies (onions, celery, etc.)
  6. Frozen veggies (peas, carrots, corn kernels)
  7. Sauce (Sriracha, Frank's, hoison)
  8. Flavorings (MSG, garlic salt, furikake)

Breakdown: (I've been doing two prep days per week, in order to have fresh meat & veggies ready to drop into the ramen)

  9. Vite-Ramen: Boil or microwave to cook
  10. Sous-Vide meat: Make-ahead, stores in fridge for 5 days. Sous-vide makes meat super tender. Slice according to how you want it (ex. chicken strips).
  11. Sous-Vide eggs: Make-ahead, stores in fridge for 3 days. There are a few different ways to do this, depending on what you want, whether it's a traditional jelly texture or something that you can break apart & kind of turn into like an egg-drop soup ramen. You can also use an Instant Pot for some methods too!
  12. Sliced veggies: I use this mini mandoline slicer. Great for Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, radishes, baby potatoes, mushrooms, green onions, etc. If you're handy with a knife, that's fine, but when I have a few pounds of veggies to chop, I just use this because it's super quick & gives nice, precise cuts really easily. It makes creating that thin "coin" shape a piece of cake!
  13. Cubed veggies: I like chunks of veggies too. I have a very simple veggie chopper gadget for this task. Insert veggie, smash down, enjoy!
  14. Frozen veggies: These are easy because you can just pour them straight into the hot broth...peas, tiny cubed carrots, individual corn kernels, etc.
  15. Sauce: Instant flavor enhancer. I typically have a variety of flavors in my cupboard to squirt in.
  16. Flavorings: Instant flavor boosters. I typically have a variety of spices in my cupboard to throw in.

    Procedure:

  17. Cook Vite-Ramen using preferred method
  18. Dump in meat of choice
  19. and/or - Dump in egg(s) of choice
  20. Add sliced veggies,
  21. Add cubed veggie,
  22. Add frozen veggies,
  23. Add desired sauce, &
  24. Add desired seasonings

Because the broth is hot & everything else is either cooked (meat & eggs) or ready to pour in (veggies & flavors), it literally only takes seconds to make a mighty nice nutritionally-complete meal with "bonus" ingredients. The list above may look long, but it's really just a matter of heating up the water for your ramen & grabbing a few things out of your fridge to chunk in the bowl when it's done cooking. SO EASY!!

I'd say the biggest key thing is to have a good container system to store your pre-chopped veggies (and pre-cooked sliced meats) in, whether it's ziploc bags or reusable plastic snack cups or mason jars. The core idea is to simply be able to grab an ingredient & literally dump it in your ramen to let the broth heat it up. In my picture above, I have:

  25. Chicken Vite-Ramen
  26. Sous-vide soft-boiled egg
  27. Sliced onions
  28. Sliced baby carrots
  29. Sriracha sauce

Super tasty, super filling, super easy! Meal-prep for this is Sunday & Wednesday:

  30. Cook eggs & meats sous-vide
  31. Chop & slice veggies
  32. Portion everything into little containers in the fridge & freezer (so you can simply drop into the hot broth ASAP!)

    Lunch is SOLVED!

Here is a checklist to track your amiibo collection: http://amiibochecklist.com/ (most popular) or https://www.scribd.com/mobile/document/341048988/iJustine-s-Amiibo-Checklist-2017

Buy NEW amiibo from: TRU is the best retailer with a diverse group of amiibos. Other than that: Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Game stop and Nintendo store. To get more rare amiibos, Beat the Bomb is an Australian retailer that ships to the US. The Australian dollar is worth less than US dollars so when you convert the prices, it is competitive. There is also NinNin but that one is more expensive and shipping is high.

Buy resale/used amiibo: Craigslist. Other places similar to Craigslist: Facebook marketplace, OfferUp, and Let Go. People have also reported being successful on Amazon Warehouse.

Use r/amiiboswap to view and exchange amiibos.

If you’re looking for ideas on how to display amiibos: Bat cases at Michael’s are pretty popular https://www.michaels.com/studio-decor-baseball-bat-display-case/10174362.html. u/EntropyFighter · 5 pointsr/Wings

Sauce recipe was adapted from here.

Recipe:

  • 1 package of Bell & Evans air chilled chicken wings (12 wings around $6). Coated in cornstarch.
  • Fry Daddy with enough fresh oil to fry in.

    Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup gochujang (link for the unfamiliar, costs about half as much at your local Asian market)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp minced ginger (I went heavy with it and used 1 tbsp and it wasn't overly gingerly)
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp rice wine or water
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp red chili pepper flake

Bring to a boil and cook for five minutes over a reduced heat.

Cook the sauce first. I used a ginger grater and a garlic press so if you do it differently, your mileage may vary.

Cook half the wings in a Fry Daddy or other vessel with 375F hot oil for 6 minutes. Remove to a wire rack. Wait 3 minutes for the oil to heat back up and cook the remaining half dozen. Repeat. Each batch of wings should have spent 12 minutes in hot oil. Once finished, toss with sauce.

Key terms

Pipe - a handheld dry smoking device Bong - a smoking device which contains water or ice.

Vaporizer - a smoking device which heats up to vaporize THC, producing no smoke.

AVB - already vaped bud, meaning marijuana that has already been vaporized. It still contains trace amounts of THC and can be smoked later, made into hash, or edibles.

Kief - the THC-rich substance that will collect in the bottom of your grinder. It falls and breaks off bud, goes through a screen and is collected.

So, basically, I recommend a bong. There isn't a ton of drag if you just use a regular one with cold water. Plus, it catches tar, carcinogens, and hot ashes from getting into your mouth. Also, you're less likely to hack up a lung.

Do you know the grades of weed?

Dirt - lowest quality of marijuana. Brown, full of seeds, stems, smells nothing like marijuana, very faint smell. Very low THC concentrations, often gives headaches. Also called: schwag, bobby browns.

Mids - mid quality marijuana. Usually green, a couple seeds or stems may be common, smells as you would expect. Medium THC
concentrations. Also called: reggie

Dank - high quality marijuana. Usually green, maybe be purple, or contain orange/brown hair-like outgrowths. High THC concentrations. Also called: goodie, fire, beasters.

To smoke, you should light the bowl for about 2 seconds, just until it is cherried and can burn on it's own while you're sucking. Slowly inhale. Don't suck too hard or you may get weed in your mouth or suck it through the bowl and waste it.

Here are some supplies I recommend to smoke
Grinder: http://www.amazon.com/NEW-STYLE-Tobacco-Pollen-Grinder/dp/B0023X32MA/ref=sr_sp-atf_image_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370566595&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=metal+ginrder

I found something similar on Amazon. It's not great since you can't see the entire kit if it's on the second or third level, but I don't have a proper display case or anything. This guy really saves me a lot of space on my desk.

Edit: I forgot to mention, Masurao's on the stand that came with the kit.

u/Shadingun4life · 5 pointsr/saplings

If I had $50, and wanted to spend all of it, I'd go with a couple simple things!

  1. Grap a decent (like $20 decent) pipe at your local smoke shop. I ended up using mine for a while before I upgraded, but I love it all the same and still go back to it sometimes for the nostalgia!

  2. Grinders make it much easier to smoke joints or blunts! I got this one (http://www.amazon.com/Cali-Crusher-Grinder-Piece-Black/dp/B004VAZ0JQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1425339033&sr=1-4&keywords=grinder) and it hasn't let me down almost a year later! Perfect small size and theres plenty of room to store bud if your on the go!

  3. With a grinder you could pick up some papers with the rest of the money, but lets be real, you can just save it to buy more bud :D

Hopes this is a good start! PM me if you have any more questions and happy toking!
u/iMehzah · 5 pointsr/saplings

If you're looking for something of a higher quality but willing to spend more money, check out the two other commenters recommendations.

If you're on a budget, the Amazon Chromium Crusher is a great little grinder. I've had it for about 2 years now and it has never failed me. A little bigger (2.5 inches) but well worth the value. I bought it as a temporary until I was of age and could get a good one at a head shop but once I got it I didn't feel the need to upgrade.

I'm guessing no one actually enlarged your photo, since it's hosted like it's 2004. To host in a way the RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite) can display here you must post an url that ends in ".jpg" or whatever file type. Imgur is the best free site for this.

Second Your grind is bad. I don't want to make you feel bad, but you are severely limiting the performance of your box by using herb like this. It should be ground as close to kief consistency as possible.

This picture Demonstrates what your grind should look like. The grind on the left is from a normal 4 piece, the grind on the right is from the Finishing Grinder. Basically Kief. Think it's like $20 on Amazon.

This picture shows a normal 4 piece grind, upside down 4 piece and the FG grind. Just without comparison objects.

As you can see an upside down 4 piece is nearly FG quality grind. Less consistent, but totally usable. If I held the grinder upside down for longer I could probably get all the way there. Or very nearly.

Alternately people will put herb in a pill bottle with a coin and shake it up, to get a fine grind.

If you don't have a grinder This is a great 4 piece that is about as affordable as fancy coffee.

I put garlic in just about everything, but hatted having to dice it up so I used to buy the big jars (I'm talking the 32 ouncers) of pre-diced garlec. Well, a while back, I found this thing and a garlic peeler, and I'll never buy a pre-diced jar again. With these two items, I have fresh garlic in barley a few seconds more that it would take to get the jar out of the fridge and measure it out and put the jar back in the fridge. With how cheep a bulb of garlic is, it's almost costless to add a couple of cloves to anything.

Kuhn Rikon.

I consider it one of the best purchases I've ever made for my kitchen (and it came recommended by America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated if I remember correctly!)

It's a little expensive, but damn, it works perfectly and is pretty easy to clean in my opinion. I cook with garlic MUCH more frequently after purchasing this. I like to be a purist and use a knife for things... but this was a game changer for me personally. I absolutely love it.

This is the onion chopper that I use for projects like pico where I really want to control the uniformity and I can hand it to anyone to help out and it's still going to turn out perfect. I also enjoy using it for doing meal prep for salads.

u/chucksluck · 4 pointsr/xxfitness

I eat this literally every night and never get sick of it: 50/50 spinach/baby lettuce mix, chopped green and yellow bell peppers (this thing makes salad prep a breeze), cherub tomatoes, shredded parmesan cheese, Grilled chicken (I buy the Tyson ready bags), GARLIC EXPRESSIONS VINEGARETTE (this stuff is seriously amazing. You can find it at Whole Foods. Its seriously what makes this salad)

u/noimsteven · 4 pointsr/saplings

like others said below, 4 chamber grinder is all you need. if you want to make more kief, put a coin in the second chamber (where the bud falls once its ground) and shake it a bit every time you use it. the coin knocks more kief off the bud and sends its through the screen. And if you want a shiiiit ton quickly, pack your grinder nearly full, throw it in the freezer for about 5 or 10 mins or so, just so its nice and cold, then shake it up

EDIT: This was the first grinder i got

u/[deleted] · 4 pointsr/saplings

This one is a good place to start. A kief catcher is something you'll probably want in the future. I sure did. I only wish that I had bought one with a kief catcher when I started. Also it's relatively cheap and durable!

The money you'd have to spend to actually make that into something usable could just be put towards a grinder with a kief catcher.

You can find them on Amazon for $8 a piece at the following link: https://www.amazon.com/Copco-2555-0188-Non-Skid-Cabinet-Organizer/dp/B0036OQU56.

I've bought quite a few for my collection and absolutely love them. In my opinion, these are a very cost-effective way to display large collections given that each display holds 18 amiibo comfortably.

u/jeantx · 4 pointsr/funkopop

OH wow i totally misread your question xD

i have totes seen tiered displays like that on amazon. since i was so useless with my last comment and deserving of downvotes, here's a similar one, usually "tiered spice rack" works, and there's nice clear acrylic tiered displays that i've seen people use in the detolf shelves too.

u/MachNeu · 4 pointsr/Gunpla

I've used these for the same purpose.

Kinda pricey now and no longer sold direct by Amazon for some reason. They were $7.99 when I bought them.

But you can search for "shelf organizer" or "spice rack" and find plenty of similar shelves, though they might not be as pretty as the Bandai versions.

EDIT: The 10" version is really cheap so that's a better option than the 15" one I linked above.

u/wordstheword · 4 pointsr/OrganizationPorn

I imagine they’re mostly not double stacked and are on a riser something like this

u/falafelsurprise · 3 pointsr/food

big pain in the ass, you have to work very quickly, the "glass" breaks very easily, very time consuming

If you do try this, here are some tips:

  • like I said, work very fast, as soon as you pour the candy starts to cool and set

  • if you can find/make a rectangular candy mold, use it!

  • work in small batches, the larger the amount you pour the longer it takes to spread out and the easier it'll be for it to set improperly

  • get one of those creme brulee torches/food torch/torch of some kind

  • get a pastry/dough knife like this

  • when you go to cut the slides, heat up the knife, not just warm but freakin hot

  • be prepared for a lot of trial and error

  • DO NOT leave on the counter, put in fridge, any amount of water (including food coloring) will start to melt the candy and then you wake up the next morning ready to take your awesome candies to work for a halloween party only to discover they look like complete and utter crap and then you start to cry and then your co-workers are all like "oh no I see it, they're great, no really... "

> . The thought of spending an hour and more in chopping veggies n cooking tires me out. Plus, I'll have to go buy veggies n stuff so many times a month.

I cant believe I am sending someone amazon requests at 12 in the night when I have deadlines. But in addition to that cooker you added to your wishlist, get this.

And dude, grow up. Making friends is as easy as smiling at people you see everyday and asking how their day is going about. Contrary to what everyone say about the US, no one is going to shoot you for fucking smiling at them.

u/RubyRedCheeks · 3 pointsr/vegan

When I moved away to college my mom bought me a Vidalia Chop Wizard and a mandolin slicer and I use them both every day. Vegan cooking requires a lot of prep for fresh vegetables and this cuts down on the knife work significantly! Plus all my food comes out in perfect dices and slices so it cooks and looks better.

u/thenshesays · 3 pointsr/RedditLaqueristas

I got them on amazon They're actually spice racks.. but it does well as a nail polish rack too. hehe

A bit of forewarning: you won't be able to see the colors in the back. If you stagger them, OPI/china glaze polishes will fit 16 per row. Julep fits in rows of 3 without staggering. You can fit a bunch of Julep, but you won't be able to see the two rows in the back.

I'm still pretty okay with this as I've sorted them by brand and remember what colors I have of each so I can quickly find what I'm looking for :)

u/PleasanceLiddle · 3 pointsr/RedditLaqueristas

There is this spice rack that a lot of people on this sub have and use for nail polish storage! It's pretty and cheap!

> Its a picture of a grinder that was calibrated for vaporizing.

Apologies friend, I'm calling bullshit.

Nothing about your grinder has anything to do with 'being calibrated for vaporizing'. It's one of the most cheap and generic grinders available. And while it will do the job it's intended to do, thats extent of its capabilities.

While I can't recommend anyone buying this grinder. (There's other, way way way nicer grinders available for cheaper) If anyone here is seriously interested in this grinder, here's a link to 3 different grinders that are the same model on Amazon. Ranging from $2-$10. However, the colors and brands will be different.

Space Case grinders are awesome quality, and the teeth rarely ever break off. Although with the big name comes a big price. If you are strapped for cash and don't mind waiting on shipping/don't need to keep what you are getting in the mail hidden from anyone, I would purchase the grinder from the link below. It's great quality for 5 bucks. I bought one and it always grinds my trees up really well. http://www.amazon.com/Piece-STYLE-Tobacco-Pollen-Grinder/dp/B0023X32MA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397589449&sr=8-1&keywords=herb+grinder

  • Screens $3.49
  • Lighers $14.99
  • Grinder $6.33
  • Papers$2.30

Total for all that is $51.61

Buy an 8th for around $45 so you now have $53.40 left. Let's assume you spent $20 on shipping costs so you have $33.40 left to spend on whatever else you want. Get a better pipe or more weed with the remainder

I don't understand why the one in OP's pictures has two middle pieces though.

u/Slimpikins23 · 3 pointsr/trees

Not to say that op needs a new coffee grinder, or that coffee grinders are a bad idea, but you could always get a regular herb grinder from amazon for like 6 bucks and with shipping and tax i think its well worth it. I got mine when the price was like 2.84 and overall it came out to like 7 bucks tops for 2.25'' grinder with a pollen collector(kief catcher). Plus who ever shows up with a coffee grinder all like, "hey i grind as much as you could possibly want in about 2 seconds with this bitch" lol.

I made my own bong out of a liquor bottle, but you can find decent bongs for like $40 or even less if you look around. Doesn't need to be fancy.

u/edoggee · 3 pointsr/trees
u/predaguy · 3 pointsr/ActionFigures

Pretty impressive, but I think you need to get yourself some levels for your displays. I know it's a personal preference, but I hate it when figures are hidden behind others so I always get something for figures in the back to stand on so they are more visible.

I do it with boxes, but there's these things too or get some flight stands.

u/AlexTheTownPump · 3 pointsr/wrestlefigs

What I used:

Cabinet - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10119206/

Lighting - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20119418/

Stands - http://www.amazon.com/Copco-2555-0188-Non-Skid-Cabinet-Organizer/dp/B0036OQU56/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458739913&sr=8-1&keywords=spice+rack+copco

Setting up the lights was not difficult. There's a predrilled hole at the top of the cabinet where I ran each cable for the lights. I zip-tied the cables inside the cabinet on the shelf frames. On the next one, I might try out a different Ikea light kit. I used LED strips on this one and the front row of figures on each shelf aren't lit as well. It looks fine when the room light is on so it's not a big issue.

I'm thinking of getting a small table or something to set this on so the bottom shelf will be more visible. I have more figures to put in there but since it's on the bottom, I didn't bother and just put the belt in instead. I have an IC belt to put in as well. That will have to wait until the next Ikea trip :D

It fits 18 perfectly, which is enough for waves 1 and 2 completely. Not sure what I'm gonna do when wave 3 hits, but it was 7 bucks or so at bed bath and beyond, and I think it looks pretty good for a low cost solution:

These are a lot cheaper, by the way.

Edit: I didn't see at first that the one you linked is expandable so what I said doesn't completely answer your question, but two of the shelves I linked put together would be cheaper and wider than one of the shelves you linked to so I would go with a couple of those instead.

u/MCP_Ver2 · 3 pointsr/amiibo

I actually had cases like these when I started getting into anime in high school for trading and capsule figures. I will say they are nice but they start to show their age pretty quickly if you are constantly getting in and out of them. They can attract fingerprints like crazy, and will get fine scratches like a cd/dvd on the clear plastic. Personal opinion, I would go with this simple 8 dollar spice rack.

ah got it... Couldnt really tell from the picture if it was set up like that or not. Something like this is what you need to use the coin trick.

Things like this are a dime a dozen at your local head shop and a decent one can be found for $20 bucks. I will say the coin trick increased my kief production astronomically... what used to take me an entire O now only takes a few bowls (the stuff had a decent amount of crystals and wasnt as sticky as it used to be). This has also helped with my tolerance... I do this during the week and only consume the herb which has a far lesser potency without all the kief on it and use the kief on weekends. ;)

Good luck!!

Don't go overboard. Just buy a $10-20 spoon pipe, a nice grinder(this and this are both good ones in different styles), and an eighth of some good weed. Don't go overboard immediately. If you want a bong just get it off DHgate or bongoutlet.ca (most of the bongs you'll find in headshops are the same exact pieces for 500% more). If you want to get a vape the Arizer solo is amazing for $120 and the MFLB is decent for $80. Since it's a legal state there's really no reason to bother with joints unless you really like them. Any papers / grinders / rollers you can get on amazon really cheaply.

Also get some of these screens for the bowls, they basically stop all weed from getting sucked in

I still prefer the coffee grinder, portability isn't a factor for me as I only smoke in my room and if I'm with a buddy I use their stuff.

u/CausersOfThis · 2 pointsr/mflb

Awesome! And no problem at all. For a good grinder for the MFLB, everyone seems to say that the finishing grinder works really well, and apparently you don't even need to grind the herb before hand-- just break it up with your fingers a little bit. The only annoying thing is it's $40, which seems a little overpriced given its size, but I was looking around and found it on Amazon for almost half the price! And here's a blog post from Magic-Flight that introduces it and talks about it a little bit.

u/slackwaredragon · 2 pointsr/ploompax

Just like /u/dontcallmebjorn said, get the MFLB Finishing Grinder. It'll grind to that perfect consistency and pairs really well with the Delta 3D Loading Funnel.

On the expensive side but I've heard good things about the Kannastor gr8tr for Vape but have no direct experience. I do have a Kannastor 2.2 grinder w/changeable screens though and it's my favorite so far. Paid like $40 at my local shop.

100%. After owning MFLBs for years.. what I found to work the best is to get a large grinder and do the initial grind with it. You can fill the whole thing up as much as you want and leave it there. Eventually the first-ground herbs goes through the Finishing Grinder per new trench. The reason why I do this is because it allows me to pre-grind a lot because the Finishing Grinder can only take small amounts at a time.. but also this helps dry the herbs before you put it through the Finishing Grinder. Both the Box and the FG do better with dry herbs. This is what I use before putting it through the FG.. plenty of space, cheap, excellent quality for my purpose: http://www.amazon.com/Golden-Gate-Grinders-Ultimate-Anodized/dp/B00GXSFB1Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1463520562&sr=8-3&keywords=golden+gate+grinder

I have a Space Case Titanium and the Golden Gate Grinder seems to do my "pre Finishing Grind" much more efficiently with a lot more space to store the herbs for drying purposes. The Space Case definitely does a better job at going for a finer grind but it doesn't match the FG on its own.

And yeah you can make joints as big or little as you want. Do not worry about excess room in a j, just twist it off and cut off the extra. 0.25 grams with low tolerance should get you pretty stoned especially if its good quality.

Get this one. I complained not long ago here of a grinder I had for 5 years that built up virtually no kief. Some stranger recommends this 10 dollar one to me, and now I've got a nearly full kief chamber after about 3 months of casual smoking. It even comes with a god damn nifty little kief shovel.

u/pokeme23 · 2 pointsr/weed

start small. Get like 1g at first, see what the price is. Invest in a grinder, specifically one with a crystal catcher. I like This one since it is quite large and has a nice crystal catcher. Get some rolling papers as well or a pipe. Pipe will be easier than rolling a joint, but get a metal filter screen. Don't want to get ash in your mouth. Smoke somewhere that you aren't gonna get caught, and use your head when it comes to the amount you are gonna smoke. If you start to feel like you're gonna have a bad time, take some deep breaths and just relax. It's all in your head

If you don't already have one, my top recommendation would definitely be a food scale!

Other than that, I've found that Amazon often has good deals on some of my favorite snacks (I often order protein bars and beef jerky through the site). I've also bought some dumbbells for at-home strength training. There's also lots of good cooking tools you could get, although I suppose it depends on your needs -- I recently bought this chopper (because I'm trying to cook with more veggies and I have terrible knife skills) and this mini cast iron skillet (because I do a lot of cooking-for-one).

u/ilea316 · 2 pointsr/pics

I want this pastry chopper from my kitchen wishlist. It will help me make apple pies on rainy days when I don't want to do anything and I'm sad because it's raining. It will also make my roommates really happy because everyone likes pie. I like making pies and knives just don't cut butter like a pastry chopper.

u/62westwallabystreet · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I took a class on making blitz puff pastry at the King Arthur Flour site in VT, and it was AMAZING. It gave me so much confidence and really helped me learn a technique that I don't know I could have mastered otherwise. You might not be able to get to their site, but I highly recommend taking a baking class or two somewhere. It will be money very well spent. Pastries (and pie crusts) are a good place to start because the results are so impressive and rewarding!

I'm sure you've heard it lots, but baking is much more about precision than cooking. It's critical that you know how to measure and work with your ingredients, because as you saw with your biscuits, you can follow the recipe and still end up with junk. That's where a real education is so valuable.

With that being said, my new favorite baking tool is [this OXO bench knife.] (https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Multi-purpose-Stainless-Scraper-Chopper/dp/B00004OCNJ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478832207&sr=8-1&keywords=oxo+bench+scraper) It's perfect for cutting through cold butter with next to 0 effort, and really helps make perfectly straight lines. It helps as you're working with dough to slide under so it doesn't stick to your surface. And probably my favorite part is that it also doubles as a ruler.

You'll want a rolling pin too, and I recommend a simple french style pin. The best deal I've found is from Walmart, about $6. Don't spring for the gimmicks like teflon or steel, they're just frustrating and pointless.

u/Warqer · 2 pointsr/Breadit

The main thing I use most of the time are just a scale (in grams is best, but it's more about ratios than anything), a dough scraper (something like this, but any flat piece to manipulate the dough will work. It's also very useful for cleaning where you were shaping the bread.). For letting the dough do it's final rise, I cover a flour sack towel (other fabric will work, but you want it smooth enough so the dough doesn't get fuzz in it, but coarse enough for the flour to 'catch' on it) in flour (a mix of wheat and fine rice flour is best, but cornmeal and rice or just lots of wheat flour will work) and line a colander with it. And razors for cutting the dough without it sticking. (putting something like these on a wooden coffee stirrer stick works well, but any razors or sharp blades should be fine.)

Other stuff is nice to have, but not necessary, IMO.

u/tekflower · 2 pointsr/Baking

A good way to store flours so they aren't exposed to humidity or bugs. I use these. Also a pastry mat and pastry scraper. And a kitchen scale is a must. Some of the best bread and pizza dough recipes rely on weight rather than volume, and having a kitchen scale will allow you to do British and European recipes, as they go by weight and metric measurements most of the time.

u/bringtea · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Ooh! It's Prime Time!
For under $10, you totally need this Oxo Good Grips scraper/chopper and all-'round kitchen gadget. Measure with it! Scrape stubborn things from other things with it! Make even slices of things with it! The uses are endless. Well, I'm sure they end, but there are a lot of them.

u/zayelhawa · 2 pointsr/Baking

Probably the most important factor in working with pie dough is keeping it at the right temperature. If it's too warm, it'll get sticky and hard to work with, the butter will melt, and your crust won't turn out flaky. In order to keep my dough from warming up, I put a marble slab in the fridge ahead of time to get it cold, then take it out and roll out the dough on it. If you do this, then I recommend rolling out your lattice strips/top crust immediately after finishing your pie shell and putting it in the plate. (If you wait too long between those steps, the slab will warm up.)

Of course, if you don't have a marble slab, you can do other things to keep your dough cold - refrigerate the ingredients, chill the dough in the fridge periodically as you go, and use bags of ice to cool off your countertop. But keep in mind if your dough is too cold (like if it's straight from the fridge after being refrigerated overnight), it'll be difficult to roll out and will crack as you do so. Based on various sources and my own experience, I think the best temperature for rolling out dough is around 60-65°F. If you have to brutally attack the dough with your rolling pin to get it to budge, it's still too cold and needs to sit out longer.

Other advice:

  • Use a scale to measure ingredients by weight and an oven thermometer to make sure the oven is the right temperature, if you don't already.
  • Using pastry strips will ensure you roll out the dough to an even thickness.
  • Using pastry flour (or a pastry flour blend) will produce a more tender crust than all-purpose flour.
  • In order to keep dough from sticking, I use a pastry sleeve and cloth, dust them with flour, and put the pastry sleeve on the rolling pin and roll out the dough on top of the pastry cloth (and periodically re-flour the pastry sleeve/cloth). Keep a bench scraper on hand in case you do need to un-stick your dough.
  • After rolling out your pie shell and top crust/lattice strips, refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes, then take it all out, put your pie filling in, and finish assembling it. Then chill again in the fridge before baking. Multiple rounds of chilling will firm up the butter and give the gluten in the dough a chance to relax.
  • To keep your crust from shrinking, make sure you roll out your dough to a large enough size (the pan's diameter + twice the pan's height, at least). If you roll it out too small and stretch the dough to fit the pie plate, it will end up resisting and shrinking back to its original size. I've had the most success in preventing shrinking when I rolled out my pie dough to be several inches bigger than what I really needed; you can always trim off the excess once it's in the pan.
  • To make sure your crust gets baked through, put a baking sheet or pizza stone on the bottom rack of the oven, line it with aluminum foil, and pre-heat it. Then put the pie plate on top of that for baking. This will help produce a crisper bottom crust and keep any filling that bubbles over from making a mess in your oven. Note that if you use a baking sheet, darker metal will absorb and distribute heat better than a lighter-colored pan, which is a good thing if you want a crisp pie crust. This is why I put an old, blackened baking sheet under my pies rather than a newer, lighter-colored sheet.
  • Use a foil ring to protect the crust edges during baking. You can just tear off a big chunk of foil, cut out a circle from the center, and cut around the outside to form a ring that will cover the edges of the pie plate while leaving the center exposed. Put this on the pie 15 minutes into baking, even if the crust edges are not overbrowned at that point.
  • To prevent a runny filling, I always macerate my fruit for at least a couple of hours. Then I reserve the extra liquid instead of dumping it all into the pie shell. For berry pies, make sure your filling is bubbling thickly by the time you take the pie out of the oven. The bubbles should be gloopy and slow instead of thin/liquid-y and fast, if that makes sense. Finally, let your pie cool off completely before cutting into it.
  • For blind baking crusts (completely baking an empty pie shell before adding the filling), you need to (a) chill the fully-formed pie shell for at least an hour or two in the fridge in advance, (b) prick the dough all over (bottom and sides) with a fork to discourage it from puffing up, (c) line the pie shell with aluminum foil, and (d) fill the pie shell with weights that come up all the way up the sides to completely fill the pie shell, not just cover the bottom. Most blind-baking instructions say to bake your crust at a high temperature (400-425°F) with weights for around 20 minutes, then remove the weights, put back in and bake for 20 extra minutes. However, ever since I tried baking for an hour at 350°F as outlined here, I've been a total convert to that method. It makes a huge difference in reducing shrinkage and distortion of the crust.

King Arthur Flour also has some good tips for pie baking here and here. Good luck!

I've been making tons of these smashed burgers for the last few months. I don't think what you use to press the burgers matters that much as long as it is wide and flat and you use enough pressure, its going to be 99% the same.

In terms of scraping, you do want something that can definitely get between the burger and the surface to preserve all of the char on the burger. Looks like it's this guy (as it's also available at the dreaded BB&B).

Not to criticize /u/OliverBabish (of whom I am a gigantic fan/evangelist) but don't get that garlic press. If you're gonna get a garlic masher, get one that is easier to clean than the "bucket masher" one he got--digging around in the holes to try to get all the garlic skin out is a stupid waste of time. The best that I've tried are the ones that have a pressing plate that lifts out and can be scraped on both sides (like this guy or it's fancier all-steel older brother).

I have (and love) the stupidly expensive 'older brother' press but it was even more expensive because of all the other shitty garlic presses I bought previously. Buy once, cry once, I always say.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that just this past weekend, I got myself a Vidalia Chop Wizard, a hokey "as-seen-on-TV" kitchen gadget, and what Alton Brown would call a unitasker.

My favorite keto recipe is Caveman Keto's Caveman Chili. I cooked it maybe 7 or 8 times throughout 2015. The problem is I would always dread the time and effort it takes to chop up the peppers and onions. I decided I needed to get something which would make the whole prep quicker and easier, so that I would be less discouraged from making the chili. I chose to go with the Vidalia Chop Wizard just because it's what /u/CavemanKeto recommends, to keep things even simpler.

Also, I want to recommend fatCoffee, which is a special premade butter coffee mix that you can buy here: https://www.ninjagoatnutrition.com/ I love so-called bulletproof coffee but, once again, the time and effort involved in mixing all the ingredients in a blender (not to mention the cleanup) was prohibiting me from making it as often as I would like. Now I can just brew my coffee like usual, add a packet of fatcoffee to my thermos, shake it up, and head to work! Shoutout to the guy behind it, he's on reddit somewhere (you might've seen a reddit ad for it) but I don't know his username.

There's magnetic boards. Just need glue and cheap magnets and you dont need no counter space.

I don't know that I'll be much help, since I'm not familiar with UK vendors, but a couple of general questions:

  • About how many polishes does she have? This will drive how big of a box/rack/set of drawers she needs.
  • Do you live near an Ikea? If so, and if she has a ton of polish, these drawers are incredibly popular for people with large collections. They can hold approx. 500 bottles of polish!
  • Is she able to wall-mount anything where she lives? For example, spice racks like these are fairly popular for polishes, but (obviously) she needs to be able to wall mount it.
  • Are there any particular brands that you know of that she likes? Does she wear a lot of bright, glittery polishes, or does she tend to be fairly conservative with her nails?

If she likes doing nail art, you may want to check out MoYou London. They have stamping plates and other nail art supplies. Nail stamping is the process of applying polish to an engraved metal plate, scraping excess polish off of the design, and then picking up the polish left in the design and transferring it to the nail.

If you think stamping is something she'd be interested in, you could pick up a few of the image plates from MoYou (they have a TON of different designs, and are good quality), as well as a stamper like this one or this one. Those same stampers can be found cheaper on Amazon or Ebay (direct from Hong Kong or China), but they'll probably take longer than 2 weeks to get to you. MoYou took less than 2 weeks to get from the UK to the US when I ordered, so it should be pretty quick for you.

I'm sure she'll love whatever you pick up; all of us love having S/Os that support or enable our nail habits :)

I have used my hands once to break apart herbs for the MFLB in a car (friend was driving) and I have to say, I wish I had my grinder with me. You can still get desired effects from the box using just your hands but from personal experience, a grinder is more efficient and highly recommended. This is the grinder I use and it has yet to fail me.

u/The_R4ke · 2 pointsr/trees
u/Hybyscus · 2 pointsr/saplings

The first two say that they are anodized, which won't (or shouldn't...) chip away.

You might want to check out this listing. It's similar to your last link, but significantly cheaper. I have a few friends with this one, and they like it a lot. The shiny silver color will give way eventually with enough rubbing/abrasion, but if you don't care about some minor cosmetic issues, the functionality remains solid. Also, be aware that they ship from China, so it takes a couple weeks to arrive.

I don't have much of a suggestion, though. I think you'll be happy with any of those. Definitely make sure that the grinder you do choose (if not on that list) has 3 chambers - the grinding chamber, the chamber sufficiently ground bud falld into, and a kief catch.

Made of aluminum, almost all of them are anodized, and many of them are colored. Prices range from as cheap as this one (around $5) to $60+. Are they all CNC'd? How can they sell them for so cheap if that's the case? Are the ones that are die cast not anodized?

I got that really popular grinder off amazon that like $8 and I just turn it upside down and grind for a while and then put the weed in a film container with a dime and shake it for 5 to 7 minutes and it works really well. The longer you shake the more fine the herb will get.

I'm quite happy with my mflb vaporizer.. cheap, lifetime warranty, works completely effective, stealthy as fuck and best of all rechargeable batteries. http://www.amazon.com/Latest-Model-Magic-Flight-Launch/dp/B0029NRM2U/ref=pd_sim_k_2
if you do get an MFLB i would recommend getting an extra set of batteries.
Also Bongs are the way to go if you aren't worried about smell or size. Nothing quite like hitting a glass on glass bong with an ashcatcher.

Edit: Also, I would check out a local head shop, support local business and all that. Plus they can often provide helpful information on your questions.

You get a grind like this from almost any grinder which doesn't have "spikes." This little guy from Amazon got me by for an entire year until I passed it on to a friend. Still grinds magnificently and the chief catcher functions perfectly. Just a great cheap grinder (obviously not perfect but it's not a fucking pirhana)

u/Jits_Guy · 2 pointsr/trees

Let me put it to you this way. I bought a grinder a couple years ago and now I refuse to smoke my bud without it going through a grinder first. The consistent size of ground bud means you get a more even burn on your bowl, smoother pull, and in my opinion, a nicer looking pack. Check out amazon if the price of a 4 stage at head shops bothers you. I bought a little Chinese 4 stage grinder for six dollars and I still use that little thing.

I use a pretty generic-looking metallic grinder from Amazon. It was $4 when I bought it and it seems it's gone up to $7 since then. But I've had it for two years and it works great. My only complaint was that the shipping time was several weeks, but it's such a great deal that it was worth it.

I really appreciate it. I have fewer figures now, but the display is so much cleaner now.

I got the steps on Amazon. They're pretty effective for the price. I have them sitting on clear plastic shot glasses. Probably not the best looking way to display the risers, but it makes the height of the bottom step more in line with the others.

BIGGEST HUGEST tip is don't accumulate too much stuff! I definitely do, so I have to discipline myself to purge once in a while.

I recently went through my lotions and bath stuff and I only even cared about maybe 25% of them. So I threw out whatever didn't have much left inside, the rest went into a storage container with a lid and tucked under all the folded towels. (This is so I don't start dragging things out later...I already decided I have too many. When friends or friends with teenage daughters visit, they can take as much of it as they want.) So now I have a reasonable amount of this stuff, but it still looks cluttered on the shelf so I went to the dollar store and got something like this, so I can see everything at once and not knock over a bunch of stuff if I want to pull one item out (this shelf is about at eye level).

De-stashing means I actually use what I love more often, because I can see it (and remember to use it) and I know exactly where it is. It also slows down future purchases (doesn't stop them, but I at least consider where it would fit on my shelves if I bought something because they look so nice now).

Repeat with other areas: books & magazines, clothing, dishes & cookware, toys, etc. Take it slow, it's a lifestyle not an overnight switch.

Also beware of arbitrary storage containers. I've bought plenty of these and it's perfectly okay to just stop and repurpose or donate them when you realize something's not working for you. Like I bought baskets to keep the towels in for the bathroom closet and later realized how much space they were wasting. You don't need to keep using it just because you're thinking of the money you spent on something. Push that from your mind and prioritize your quality of life.

u/Antussy · 2 pointsr/amiibo

No real reason other than me having a 10Ft long mirror and a counter top that's just as long under it with the sink built in, so it literally just fits there. It's out of the way from everything else, and I usually put on cologne after shaving or before leaving the house, which involves me looking at the mirror to make sure everything looks ok.

It's the joined master bathroom, it's not like it's randomly in a bathroom in the house, it's connected to my room.

I know my ex used to keep her perfume on top of her drawer and my father keeps his in his closet that he had built with drawers inside, the bathroom just works for me, plus it allows me to display all of my fragrances without taking up space in my room.

I also have 2 of these now which helps keep everything extra neat.

Not many comments about grinders yet so I'll do one. Honestly if you're looking for 'bang for your buck,' you can't beat amazon.com. You'll pay 80 bucks at a head shop for something that you can get for 20-30 on amazon and it'll perform just as well.

I was astounded that my Chromium Crusher survived my first 3 years in college (I'm not sure even any piece of furniture lasted that long), still works just as well as the day I got it.

I use a four piece Sharp Stone (got it here) and it works great. A good one will usually run you around 30, but you can find ones on Amazon for under 10 that still get the job done. I would say that when you're collecting all your kief you get a nice scrapper/brush from Entsupercenter. You might want a kief press too, and I have a cali crusher that works great, and it came with my grinder.

u/willis81808 · 2 pointsr/trees

There are vapes that use oils and there are vapes that use dry herb (and there are probably some that do both...). If you are going to use a dry herb vape I wouldn't suggest just ripping up the weed into chunks and putting them in it. You want the bud to be as finely ground as possible if it's going to be used in a vape; 2-piece grinders (like this one) are perfect for making a fine grind, but even 4-piece grinders (like this one) can make a fine enough grind if held upside down while grinding.

u/chiemseeflint · 2 pointsr/trees

I would say spend some extra cash and get a really nice quality grinder. Yes, its expensive, but think of it as an investment. I dropped $60 on one a while back and I don't think I'll ever need another one (unless, of course, I lose this one). I love compton grinders, and santa cruz shredders are also very popular and seem to be good quality. However if you are sent on a $30 limit I would suggest a sharpstone or a cali crusher.

-The Mendo Mulcher is said on reviews to grind finner than the Spacecase/Sharpstone.
-The Head Chief Mini has been recommanded by a user from this sub, remember it is 30mm
-The Cali Crusher is less expensive than Sharpstone/Spacecase but still quality built. (they all do not grind fine enough)
-The Finishing Grinder is THE shit, you won't get better.
-The tic-tac box requires a lot of time (and noise...) to eventually get stuff equally ground and fine enough.

Just how gross are your counters? If they really need a good scrubbing (I'm not judging; I have a child and cats...) before you can use them for food, a scraper is a good thing to have. (Then just go over it with a damp paper towel.)

u/Somerandomlog · 1 pointr/cookingforbeginners

I personally would get the following way sooner if I was building my kitchen all over again.

Also if there is a place you can get bulk spices near by I would go there for your spices, because if you havent already noticed spices are pricey at your local megamart.

Lavatools Thermowand - Same form factor as the much more expensive thermopen but at 1/3 the price.

Lodge cast iron skillet - great for searing meats or as a good starting pan.

OXO Bench Scraper - Makes prep work much easier and safer as you don't use your knife to scrape your food off the cutting board.

Immersion Blenders - When you dont want to use your big blender or want to blend something in your pot or pan.

Stainless Steel Cookware - Has a little bit of a learning curve but is great after the fact.

Aeropress - Life is too short to make shitty coffee.

Edit: added a thermometer/spelling

I felt the same way, primarily due to how much trouble they are to clean. I had gotten rid of every press I'd ever tried until I found this one through an ATK equipment review. Its design is pretty ingenious and allows it to be cleaned in just a few seconds.

u/J662b486h · 1 pointr/Cooking

Two items you need are a garlic press and garlic peeler. This is a fairly highly rated garlic press. And this absurd little thing does an astonishingly good job of peeling garlic.

u/BigBadJonW · 1 pointr/Cooking

I use this one. It's super easy to clean so long as you clean it soon after use, otherwise you may need to soak it first.

u/ZeteticNoodle · 1 pointr/Cooking

I’ve used the Oxo, which was very effective, but still kind of a pain to clean. This style was a big upgrade for me because it completely flips apart for cleaning, and it takes less force to use.

u/bdporter · 1 pointr/sousvide

I bought it off Amazon for $22.99 about a year ago. In the review video, they said the price was $35.99. It looks like the price has been up since last August

Maybe Kuhn Rikon jacked up the price due to the good reviews, or perhaps there is just less discounting because it has become popular.

I totally agree that it is pricey, but I will say that it is really well built, and works great. I am glad I didn't pay $45 for it though.

u/Zombies_Are_Dead · 1 pointr/Cooking

I do it if I want them to essentially disappear into whatever I am cooking. I generally prefer larger pieces than a grater will do though. I have a Vidalia Chop Wizard thing my mom gave me for faster prep when I want a fine in-between chopped and grated. It's a bit of a hassle to clean, but for large pots of soups and stews it is pretty handy. I love my kitchen knives though, so I only really resort to it when I cook in quantity.

u/Evilbob22 · 1 pointr/cynicalbritofficial

Dooger! (And other people that have trouble chopping onions): I'm really bad with crying while chopping onions; I can't do more than half of a single onion without having to leave the room. This is slightly off-topic, but it was discussed, so it "should?" be relevant. Probably. I think...

There are food choppers that push the onion through a grid of blades, and with it, I can chop as many onions as I need/want. The only down side is that the only options are chopping food into squares, or chopping food into little squares. There are a bunch of brands out there now, just be sure to get a sturdy one. Mine is a Vidalia Chop Wizard ("As seen on TV!") and I've used it for years. https://www.amazon.com/Vidalia-Chop-Wizard-VOWR-2/dp/B000I6JZWA

Here's a good grinder for about $5+tax. It was the first I'd ever bought and I loved it. You can find other methods to grind it up, but this will make your life easier in that regard

u/marvelking666 · 1 pointr/trees

I went through a similar phase about a month and a half ago. I decided for my first grinder to get this one. It's not the best grinder in the world, but it gets the job done. Also, I just throw a dime in the weed-catching compartment before grinding then shake for about a minute to get more kief.

I also decided on a chillum for the bowl that I wanted. That's just because I like them though.

On top of that, I would recommend getting some papers and filters. They are easy to pass off as a cig from a distance and also if you bout to get caught you can always eat it to get rid of the evidence.

I have a plain aluminum grinder. It has a kief chamber which is awesome. I have had mine for four years now. I've seen people's kief screens bust/clog up, magnets fall out, teeth break. But mine is still like new (besides a bit of residue and scratches). I would recommend one like this. It looks almost identical to mine, but I paid $20 in a shop. I think as long as it is metal and has a kief chamber, it should be good.

u/number676766 · 1 pointr/saplings

Go cheap 4 piece. Unless you're a dealer or just smoke a lot you wont need anything bigger or more durable than this.

u/Dank_Turtle · 1 pointr/trees

You done fucked up, boy. But seriously, leave it in alcohol but don't run it under water!! Just let the alcohol evaporate. Sorry to say but there's no going back. Gonna need to buy a new one, I wouldn't use that thing. Not sure how safe it is, you know?

i got a basic on one amazon for like $6 shipped. a few complaints or thoughts i had

  1. wish it was bigger. a little shitty if you need to grind a bunch up for edibles or tincture making. found a 4" SCS on amazon for $30 i might get
  2. sometimes it gets caught briefly on a stem. just have to rock it back and go forward. could just power through it
  3. didnt come with a kief scraper.

i would guess it could hold maybe 1.5-2grams of ground bud in it, not tons of space. it works great for what i use it for. i probably shouldn't waste anymore money on something bigger.

    think i got this one

u/NSFWies · 1 pointr/vaporents

you can get a basic, china made, very cheap 4 piece (top, grinder, grinds catcher, kief catch) aluminum grinder on amazon for like $5. i'd say get that until you know any better.

http://smile.amazon.com/Piece-STYLE-Tobacco-Pollen-Grinder/dp/B0023X32MA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408498410&sr=8-1&keywords=herb+grinder

i do wish it was a little bigger, when i'm grinding up a bunch to fill a bunch of my PnP chambers, i have to fill it back up a few times with stuff to grind, then empty it out and go again.

as far as vapes, since you aren't worried about stealth, i would say actually take a look at the hammer vape. people have said it's similar to a log dekstop vape. we seem to be in love with log vapes like the enano.

the hammer uses a butane flame to heat some pieces of metal. you suck air in over the metal and it blows over your weed, vaporizing all the good stuff.

they are an interesting idea because you can get a butane refill for under $10 and carry it with you. that is enough fuel to do hundreds of bowls. where as the best battery powered vapes would probably get you 5 full bowls, at best.

along those same lines are the lotus. that one is just the chamber, you have to use your own lighter with it. the downside though is they aren't digital, so you can't just press one button and go. you have to let it heat up then inhale at a certain speed. for digital ones, just set to desired level, let it heat, and go to town.

u/firetaucayenne · 1 pointr/merchents

I've had something like this for as long as I've been smoking, and it's a pretty excellent piece, also incredibly cheap. I see a lot of people asking $30-$40 for a grinder that is usually close enough to the same thing that I actually get a little bit sad about it. The only possible downfall I've experienced is the magnet not being super strong (ie, shaking it upside down will cause the top to fall off, but it will stay if you don't shake it).

I've had mine for a couple of years at this point and it still works perfectly.

u/R3dcell · 1 pointr/ploompax

u/framburglar · 1 pointr/trees

This is actually my grinder. I'm fwerner729's roommate. I'm not exactly sure who it's made by. I found it on the MFLB tab at the top of the r/trees homepage. From there, I was able to buy it through Amazon. I can't figure out who it is made by, but it got really good reviews and i really enjoy it so far.

u/rsmichaud · 1 pointr/saplings

As long as you buy a metal multi-section one, you really can't go wrong for the most part. It doesn't really matter all that much which one you decide on, I'm sure they will all get the job done plenty well. I would strongly recommend getting one with a kief catcher though, it will collect in the very bottom and you can smoke pure kief later for a helluva high.

Sorry, I'm ranting. Anyway, look on amazon. There are many options from $5-$30. I would shell out the extra few bucks to get the high quality ones, but you really don't need to if you don't want to.

This 4 piece on amazon is the one I bought, it works fantastically well, and it extremely cheap. I find it very good, in pretty much every way. Although like I said, it's hard to go wrong really.

u/mki401 · 1 pointr/vaporents

If you want a top quality one that will cost more, go with Santa Cruz or Space Case. They pop up on Massdrop fairly regularly.

If you want cheap check Amazon. I got this one several years ago and it's still going strong. It's nothing special but is infinitely better than no grinder. It's outlasted more expensive smoke shop grinders that friends have bought.

u/NotTheNedShow · 1 pointr/mflb

read the 1 star reviews first. It seems that they're discounted for a reason now: metal shavings in grindings, the different levels getting stuck together really easily(impossible to open), etc).

u/funkbass87 · 1 pointr/vaporents

I have a Pax and bought an awesome grinder off of amazon, this was doing well until i realized a finer grind would help a lot more. I bought the MFLB finishing grinder and it did the trick - but at a very time consuming extra step.

A few months ago I bought a Krupps coffee grinder off Amazon and use that to make the finest powder. It's super quick, a little noisy, but it does the trick and is all self contained.

u/DJ_GiantMidget · 1 pointr/trees

2 piece is just a basic
3 piece has a catch for trees
4 piece has a catch for trees and a keif catch
5 piece.... IDK? i'm still wondering
you should be able to get the MFLB anywhere but here is a cheap ass grinder that should work well (i'm probably going to buy like 10 and just give them out as gifts to people, or when a friend comes over and is all like man i need a grinder, i'll just throw him mine and be like "FREE OF CHARGE!!!" becoming the ultimate GGG)

u/MibZ · 1 pointr/trees

Here is a link to a dirt cheap 4 piece grinder, it has a screen that filters the finest part of the weed (the tiny crystalline bits). That's called kief, and it's the bees knees of trees. You won't feel like you're getting less high using a grinder that filters it because there is only a tiny amount that gets filtered each grind, but once enough has built up you can either sprinkle a little bit of it on top of a bowl or smoke straight kief (not recommended unless you want to be a vegetable) and get extremely more stoned.

I'm sure they'll have more games that use amiibo on Switch; they've already showed up the amiibo scanners on the joy-cons. As to whether it'll be more than, "here's this cool skin" or minor bonuses in the game, we don't really know yet. I am also in need of a solid means to display my minifigs. Those that come with sets stay with the sets, but my CMFs, and older 80s/90s minifigs are, for now, displayed on a shelf on one of these. It works well enough, and along with a bit of shelf space left in front of it, I can fit a decent amount. My concern is dust, as my apartment can be dusty (dusting all of my sets is a serious chore every 2-3 months).

I have had my eyes on this custom shadowbox, but at the moment it is only available for pre-order. The seller does make smaller ones, but for the amount of minifigs that you have, the 16"x20" would be more up your alley. I am planning on buying two at some point, myself. I know what you're talking about and it may be due to a few factors. Like others have said, a finer grind is truly a game changer with the air. Consider investing in a santa cruz shredder or a cali crusher to step up your grinder game. You may also want to try the upside down grinder trick to get a finer grind.

Even this doesn't really fix your problem, but it makes sure that even though the herb close to the over is very well done, the herb furthest is done enough to be done vaping. Its something us air owners live with. I see that if its all vaped, even at varying degrees, I could care less.

The Chromium Crusher is absolutely great!

Put a dime in the middle section for maximum keif accumulation. It fills almost too fast (almost).

u/IamTheTrevor · 1 pointr/trees

I had one of these grinders, out of personal opinion buy this one :http://www.amazon.com/Chromium-Crusher-Piece-Tobacco-Grinder/dp/B00700W0TW/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1425759094&sr=1-5&keywords=gunmetal+grinder.

Downsides of the crank grinder was that the small little handle was hell on the hands, if you pack your grinders full :). Mine ended up snapping the long threaded screw that was in the bottom of the handle. So if you go with this grinder, don't over fill. The grinder I linked to takes as much dope and you want to pack into it, no problems and cheaper :P.

u/KickInTheButt · 1 pointr/mflb

If you want a cheap and solid one , id recommend you the Chromium Crusher you just have to turn it upside down and grind it until it's good for you. The only bad thing I can say about this grinder is the hole are a little big but worth the 15-20$!

Check out this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00700W0TW

I own it and like it. It's even cheaper than the one you posted, looks similar, and is a brand name. Works great, holds together well, and grinds nicely.

Yeah, I used the finishing grinder and ran it through it 3 times. I used to use the pill bottle method but the finishing grinder just takes it to the next level.

I found it on Amazon one day for like $12-13 but the price seems to have jumped back up to $24.

Amazon has some good deals on decent stuff if you look hard enough. They also always come in a discrete package too so you don't have to worry about someone seeing your piece arrive.

Grinder
I've used this grinder for about 3 months now and it works great, only thing is its a tad on the small size, but if you are just starting out its cheap and you probably won't need to grind a lot at once.

Bowl
This bowl is similar to the one I have, I got mine from the same seller and it works great, they burn a little hot because the shape of the bowl is so wide and a lot of air can get in there, but its ~5inches so it cools down quite a bit before it gets to you.

I'd give it a shot, so long as your parent's don't go through your mail, if that's a risk then you should try and go to a gas station/general store that looks a bit sketchy and look around, I know there are a few convenance stores around me that sell bongs and bowls, they're marked "for tobacco use only" but everyone knows thats not what they're for. Also maybe try vape shops/cigar shops for other materials, just know you will pay a premium price if you go to a store rather than online.

u/BackyZoo · 1 pointr/trees

Well here in America pipes and bongs (water pipes lol) are sold as "For tobacco use only."

Tobacco is 18 in US so I assume you're gonna have to buy offline. I got my grinder off Amazon for about 10 USD and it's been great so far.

Here's the grinder. Good 4 piece for cheap, keif catcher works well

depending on the features and stuff you are looking for it could be different. But look up herb grinders on amazon and you can select based off of reviews etc. One I have was super cheap and functions perfectly. mine. MJ isn't the only herb you grind in these kinds of things, most other dried herbs are what these are used for. Because of that there is no shortage.

$15 for a 3" 4pc aluminum grinder that'll shred pound after pound. Cheaper to replace than clean when they gunk up.

To me, a grinder made a HUGE difference.

Your bud smokes better, more evenly.

I have a good income, though, and the cost of bud and grinders is pretty small compared to what I can afford (I don't smoke much). It makes perfect sense for me, therefore, to spend a little more money to have a much better experience.

I have been able to find decent grinders on Amazon for less than $10. For example: https://www.amazon.com/Golden-Bell-Piece-Spice-Grinder/dp/B01CQ9FYXK/ref=pd_lpo_79_bs_tr_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=M18P9R2XH5Q63WZNMWGJ

For plugs, especially Euro steam pressed plugs, get yourself one of these. No joke, I had trouble finding a good cutting method for plugs and this solved it. Just cut the plug up into small chunks, throw em in this, give it a couple turns and it comes out as a nice roughed cut ready to smoke. You really just need 2 or 3 twists to break the chunks up, too many turns and it comes out way to finely shredded.

u/DirtyJesus1 · 1 pointr/vaporents

I was in your position 6 years ago when I first started smoking and all I wanted was something cheap to get by. So I bought this. And I ended up with a 100% reliable, durable, and convenient grinder. I had to buy a new one this year, though, because my buddy lost mine when I lent it to him. Over 5 years with 0 complaints and I only paid $4.69 USD at the time. Instantly bought a new one after the first got lost and still, no regrets. It holds up to every standard 4-Piece grinder I've ever used or been around. It won't give you a super fine grind and the finish fades after a year or so, but for <10$ and years of use, it is the best bargain buy I have ever encountered

u/bubblebuddy26 · 1 pointr/vaporents

Thanks, I saw this grinder and it seems pretty cheap but good quality. What do you think of it?

u/nomnommish · 1 pointr/EatCheapAndHealthy
  1. An Instant Pot above everything else. Because it cooks food super fast even for fall off the bone tenderness. And is really easy to clean and operate.

  2. Buy microwavable steamer bags. You want to cook potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, or just about any veggie? Cut it into chunks, shove it into a steamer bag with a sprinkle of water, seal it, and microwave it for 3-4 minutes, and you have perfectly cooked veggies. No mess to clean up, and you can't get faster than this. Even if you want to sautee or stir fry veggies, it is often a good idea to parboil or part-cook the veggies in a steamer bag, and then just get your pan ripping hot, add oil, and toss the half cooked veggies for a minute, with spices and herbs.

  3. Meal prep on weekends. The biggest pain of cooking is actually in the prepping and the cleaning up after. Prepping or "mise en place" can also be done on the weekends where you can chop all your veggies and put them in airtight containers. Cooking then becomes super easy because everything is chopped up and ready to go. I chop my onions, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, cilantro, bell peppers, carrots other veggies like cauliflower or broccoli on Sundays. Buy a bunch of mid-sized airtight storage containers and store your mise en place in that.

  4. For the weekend meal prepping, the chopping gets tedious. I've been experimenting with various labor saving devices. A mandoline works really well for large scale chopping. You can slice everything in a mandoline and then fine dice the slices into really small dice. Or keep them as slices. But this onion chopper is super useful too. It will dice an onion in seconds. I also use it to dice bell peppers and tomatoes.

  5. Buy a box of peeled garlic and freeze it. When you need garlic, just take out a few cloves of the peeled frozen garlic and chop it directly. Bonus is that frozen garlic doesn't stick to the knife like fresh garlic. And frozen garlic tastes exactly like fresh garlic so there's no loss of flavor either.

  6. Buy a handheld stick blender. It comes in super handy to make sauces and soups. Buy one that has a reasonably powerful motor. i have a 500W overkill one but 200W should also be fine.

  7. Buy an tabletop toaster oven, not a toaster. A toaster oven is super super versatile. It takes only a few minutes to preheat to 350F or 400F if you need to use it as an oven. It also works great to reheat pizza and fried chicken. And of course, it will toast.

  8. People tend to get overly fussy and pendantic over knives. I say this as someone who has close to 10 knives. Look, you can go the whole shebang and get a honing rod and whetstones and expensive knives and all that. But the truth is that you need a chef knife (240mm ideally), a smaller utility knife (180mm), a paring knife, and a good peeler. And you need to keep the knives fairly sharp at all times. And you can do this buy buying a popular recommended value for money knife like Victorinox Fibrox or any other. My favorite is a Richmond Artifex gyuto made with AEBL steel from ChefKnivesToGo. But you can buy any knife that you find comfortable in your hands. And if you're not going to geek out on knives but use it as a tool, just get a $5 knife sharpener like this one and ignore the honing steel and sharpening stone recommendations. It does the job fairly fine and takes seconds to keep the knife reasonably sharp.

They make much nicer ones than the on in OP's video.

But you can not beat a vegatble chopper for making french fries or basic chopping of onions.

Personally I can prep 3 carrots, and 2 onions in about 3-5 minutes with a veggie chopper. Cut the carrots into thirds, press through. Cut the onions top and bottom off, in half, press through. Clean up. I still cut veggies but for some, it reduces the prep to a few minutes vs 5-10 minutes.

I have decent knife skills. I can cut semi fast. I choose not to rapidly rock the knife feeding in veggies to chop. Because it's still risky for hurting yourself. These will save you lots of time for basic onion and carrot prep. And its seriously nice to not tear up manually chopping onions. Also not clunky. Not hard to clean. Just rinse it out after using or put it in the dishwasher. Op's video one is dumb but more "versatile". But really the only use case is onions, potatoes, carrots and a few other jullian veggies.

Anyways. Here's a video showing the power of prepped veggies and a chopper. No way to beat this with a knife when it comes to onions and potatoes. So long as you need them cut into squares.

A tool to dice vegetables in one go. It’s got a screen and a thing you use to push down on the veggie, and then a plastic container at the bottom.
Like this
I’ve only used it once or twice. It’s not storing enough to do onions and cleaning it is a bitch. Also I cut myself on the sharp part. Not a fan, much easier to dice by hand.

Also a scissors with multiple blades, to finely cut up herbs. It’s very hard to clean in between the blades and doesn’t save much time.
