Nicely done. You may be interested in something like this. Possibly a little safer and probably cheaper: JobSite Original Shoe Boot Dryer - Electric Warmer - Deodorizes, Prevents Mold - Ultra Silent https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AYJKBHE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.X.LDb1102Z29

There are actually purpose-made devices for this use case. OP's solution is pretty ingenious, though, and definitely a lot cheaper.

Just in time for more wet weather I got a lightweight rain jacket (32 degrees performance rain jacket but men's) and for the price it was just fine - just a lightweight polyester shell so I can still run fast if needed. I forgot I ordered another one for $5.97, that hasn't come yet, so we'll see.

I also got these shoe dryers thanks to a tip on r/running last week, and they're working great!

Forced air boot dryer, shoe dryer, and glove dryer works simultaneously on up to four garments https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LZEF17K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gAM3Db78RQDHPP

It really does the trick, while my feet may have remained dry the boots would be entirely soaked so this has plenty of room to circulate air and it can also hold gloves.

Shoe covers work if your running clipless. Otherwise, i'd invest in some waterproof shoes and wool socks.

Pack an extra pair of socks, and maybe some extra shoes (moccasins ride that fine line between work appropriate and light) in your bag to wear at your destination (assuming work). Also, buy one of those boot dryers It'll come in so handy.

Biggest change you can make is in your mind. Learn to cope. Its annoying, yes, but it doesn't need to be miserable. You get to control that part. Stay zen, and ride safe.

Boot dryer: [DryGuy Force Dry Boot Dryer, Shoe Dryer, and Glove Dryer with Articulating Ports for Ski Boots https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZE505J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_z1aADb3NXAPDA](DryGuy Force Dry Boot Dryer, Shoe Dryer, and Glove Dryer with Articulating Ports for Ski Boots https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZE505J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_z1aADb3NXAPDA).

Boot lacing. Please note that at 20 seconds the laces are inserted from the top of the hole and pulled through toward the toe. I have modified it so you insert the lace from the bottom hole and pull the lace toward your ankle. If you do it like in the video at 20 seconds I found that it will actually twist the metal eyelet. The reason he does it this way is so that it is easier to shoot the lace under itself two steps later. If this doesn’t make sense I’ll lake a new video to walk you through it.

If your looking for boots in that price range.

I've had 3 pairs of these over the years. They are made by Redwing, I've never had a break in period with these. If you use the stretch 6 pay you're paying like 20 bucks a month.

Also for winter you might wanna get a cheap boot drier. There's nothing worse than having to go back to work and realizing your boots are still wet. You can prevent your gloves from getting smelly in two easy steps.

  1. Wash your hands right before you put on your wraps to minimize any bacteria being carried into their moist shadowy interior. And ALWAYS use clean wraps! Wash them in a delicates bag after every use.
  2. Invest in a ski boot drying device such as this one and plug your sweaty gloves into it every time they're used.
Voila! Your hands and gloves don't smell like death to both you and your opponent. I've tried the airing out right away, I've tried the glove dogs... maybe I'm just sweatier than other people, but if you want your gloves to smell like leather and not like something from the crypt, go the extra mile.

This one

Those little side vents go into the thumbs, which is nice.

When I as a kid, we just had one of those ones you put over the HVAC register like this

You could probably DIY this kind fairly simply... but the materials might get close to $20 anyway so...

Grew up in the great white north, wet gloves/mitts where a daily thing. Something hollow works better, a bit of abs pipe, wire form, etc does the job well.

They make specialized stuff like this too:Gloves - Hats - Mitten and Boot Drying Rack https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B076PNBTVT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_H6zVCbY90PBRG

You’ll want to make sure your feet aren’t in your boots too tight, a loose fit will allow circulation.

All the advice on gloves/mitts is good. You can’t have too many pairs of gloves/socks.

As is the advice on wool base layers, wools is also flame retardant, and tends to get less smelly than Helly Hansen bade layers. I’ve also on occasion used wool as a mid layer.

If there’s a chance kit will get wet look for silicone drying bags, they go inside kit to suck water out, and then in the microwave or similar to warm up and drive out the water again.

I wouldn’t want to rely on heated jackets to keep me warm...eat more calories. The cookies sound good, and Macadamias have the highest calorie/weight but expensive fill your belly with hot food any chance you get and keep snacking.

If your work will allow, you can buy a boot and glove dryer. I have two of these, one at home and one at the office. They sufficiently dry my gloves and boots while at work (mostly) and don't actually consume too much electricity. The one at home also sits under my jacket hook, and the warm air helps dry that out too.

Plus as others have said, a waterproof overall works great. I bought a waterproof set at Aldi and honestly it works great. I can commute 45 minutes in the pissing down rain, I hang my waterproofs up in our shower room, my bike jacket and bottoms up in the courtroom, and my jeans + work gear underneath is dry.

u/n0t_5hure · 1 pointr/surfing

Surfing gift are tough, because there is a lot of personal preference involved in selecting surf gear, and most surfers already have everything they need. Are you somewhere that the water is cold? A powered wetsuit drying hanger and/o a boot dryer that he could use to dry booties would be something he may not have.

This may not work for you, but it has been amazing for me. Dries shoes overnight no matter how soaked they are. The price on Amazon fluctuates, right now it is on the high end.

u/wingsnut25 · 1 pointr/hockeygoalies

currently i use one of these

I put one hose in each arm of the chest protector, and the glove and blocker occupy the other two. It works fairly well. I also have a dehumidifier a few feet away, but that is working on the entire basement. Everything else gets hung up.

I'm at the point now where I would prefer convenience just as much as effectiveness. Spending the time to build a small enclosed area where I could just set everything in it might be worth it.
