They've also rolled out new scooters designed by Segway, instead of Xiaomi. Seems like the plan is for these to eventually replace the Xiaomi ones.

I purchased my electric scooter (first paycheck) at the start of Summer 2018, and before that, was that guy on a kick scooter. The climate for electric scooters on campus went from what I could tell was me and another dude I saw once every month, to now seeing at least 3 every day.

I fear that what was once mild amusement to people now will become hatred when millions are everywhere and half the people scooting around purchased one have no idea what common courtesy is and attempt scootihicular pedestrianslaughter on the sidewalks, souring public opinion. Worrying premonitions aside, I can not say enough about how much I love my scooter to get around. It's the perfect combination of vehicle, where you don't have to worry about storing it like a bike, or if you never gained the magical skills to not die on a longboard/skateboard, a pretty easy to use ride. I use mine everyday and it does a good job. If you can use a longboard/skateboard those are very good options for pretty cheap human propelled transportation that are very popular, although I'll always have a soft spot for the A5 Lux Kick Scooter I used to roll around with. Brakes are neat, yo!

As for which scooter to get, I'm not up with the scooter times, but I use the Segway ES1 I purchased at Sam's Club for $350. Judging by the fact I've never actually seen another one of those out on campus (If you see a dude on one of these, probably wearing flip-flops, feel free to wave hello, say hi, and not hate me, I try to be as courteous as possible to other pedestrians/cyclists!), gonna go out on a limb and say they are no longer for sale at Sam's Club. However what I have seen on campus are the Xiaomi Mi or maybe this go trax thing. Can't speak for those at all, but they sure are popular.

The electric scooter market is pretty cheap, with the prices being low, but with the quality being low as well. There was literally like two options when I got mine, with the one I did get being sold off on clearance, but now with the explosion in this segment, the skies the limit, maybe.

Overall, the utility of an electric scooter is a great value for what they cost, and I'd happily answer any questions you've got. Also, yes I am a bit of a electric scooter nut/loser, if this thesis of a post is anything to go by.

Honestly, get an M365 like 90% of us on here. It's a solid scooter, lightweight, foldable, and cheap. You can always upgrade, but it checks all the boxes for most of us. There are certainly faster scooters with better range. But for the price, I don't think it's worth it. I love how light the M365 is and you simply don't get additional range without additional weight/battery. If someone can point me to something that rivals the M365 at that pricepoint, I'm all ears.

I think scooter skill and etiquette will improve with time. You still have a lot of people riding them for the first time to try them out.

Side note, does anyone have one of these and know how to lock them to bike racks? I'm passively interested in one but the inability to lock them seems devastating.

I noticed that too on Amazon. I checked the price history using camelcamelcamel and you can see that they periodically jack the price way up for a short amount of time and then slam it back down. I've noticed some price creep like this before on amz but nothing with such huge changes.

I think if you wait a short while it'll go back down.

Hey guys - new to longboarding! I recently picked this longboard

Try to avoid riding with one belt, the boards are not designed to do that and you'll probably notice when breaking or turning that things can really easily get out of control.

From left to right, the boards are the Tan Tien, Dervish Sama, Icarus, and the Boosted Board. Tan Tien and Dervish Sama are more of my cruising boards with the Icarus a carving board. I mostly ride the Dervish and my wife rides the Tan Tien (since it's smaller). Also bought and returned the Loaded Overland (didn't like it as much)

I tried out different trucks and wheels and found the orangatang 80a to be the best for me (same as on the Boosted Board). The 2 on the left have Caliber II trucks. I like the Caliber trucks since they spring back to neutral position quickly which is great for cruising and is very stable. The Icarus is meant for carving so it has looser Paris v2 trucks. I tried the 80mm Orangatang Kegal wheels on these boards and always managed to get wheelbite (and thus crashing) so I went with 70mm wheels and can ride without worrying

Any santa cruz complete is pretty solid, if you get a 26-29in deck, it'll be slightly smaller than a normal deck, and still maintain the cruiser appeal.

I'm getting into longboarding now that all of my friends are; however, I currently do not own a long board. My friend has an extra one that I have been borrowing, the Quest Super Cruiser 44". I like how easily this board can turn, but dislike the size of it.
The two I'm currently looking into are the White Wave Rocket and the White Wave Missile which seem to have nice quality for a good price.
My only issue is I am not sure which one to go for. The main difference seems to be the length (31.5" vs 28") and the trucks (180mm vs 5").

It's getting a little more popular with a lot of people who started out in the same boat as you. You're doing great, and you've tried to help your pup in so many ways, don't feel bad about this at all :)

So essentially we can teach your dog to dremel her own nails.

You'll want to get some grip tape (the tape that goes on the top of a skateboard, here is a link), and put it on a sturdy clipboard.

Then you're going to teach your dog to paw/dig on command. To do this, put a treat under a towel, and kind of hold the towel down while encouraging her to try to get the treat. After nosing it for a minute, she should get frustrated enough to try pawing at it. Yes! Reward vigorously. Repeat until it's pretty reliable/she's figured out that you want her to use her paws. Then remove the towel, put the treat on the clipboard, and only cover with your hand. When she scrapes her nails on the sandpaper like tape, reward reward reward!

Make sure you're only rewarding for good nail scrapes, not rubbing the pads of her paws on it. Then you can move on to different feet (the back ones can be very difficult. Some dogs pick it up pretty easy. One dog I actually had to teach to leap off the board so he'd wear down his back nails.)

Keep an eye on the nails to make sure she's not scraping them too short, and voila! No clippers are involved, instead there's only the happy treat-time clipboard!

I'm guessing you're in the US since you're referencing FFR. What's your current scooter? I don't normally join circlejerks, but the Xiaomi M365 is a pretty good value and it's below your budget at $379 right now on Amazon. Pneumatic tires will provide better grip and ride quality than solid tires, and if you keep the pressure up high enough (depends on your weight, but around 50 PSI), flats are not that big of an issue. The stem wobble is also better in recently produced units, and if it ever gets bad you can buy cheap rubber dampers to tighten it back up.

Once you make your noob mistakes on a cheap board you'll have a small clique of skaters who will let you try out various board setups and be able to purchase your first high-end board with confidence.

Hi there, I have always wanted to get into longboarding but never had the money to pay for one. There's probably vids on YouTube for what's acceptable noise and change noises. I have been running stock bearings on the drive wheels and zealous on front for over 600mi on the v1 and about 200 mi on the v2. Put them in when I got the boards and haven't changed since.

This was a must for me learning how to skate transition and these have been great so far.

For knee pads I used Deadbolts XL for awhile, but they twisted a lot and I was afraid of landing on my knee. I now just switched to the S1 knee pads in 2xl and honestly I could go down to an XL but luckily their straps are adjustable as they stretch out over time.

The wrist guards have saved my wrists multiple times and the elbow pads work fine. The straps on the elbow pads are long enough but I added in an inch or so of fabric to the sleeve for comfort, although they were wearable before.

All solid suggestions I think. I ended up ordering Flexmeters (wrist guards), and the knee and elbow Fox D3O pads and the Fox Defender gloves.

The gloves are some of my favorite ever. And the elbow pads are solid. The knee pads are tight and hot though. Pretty uncomfortable and a challenge to get on and off.

I had ordered the JBM Adult Protective Gear Set for Biking, Riding, Cycling and Multi Sports and after just a few outings those actually break in really nice and are very comfortable. $20 for a full set of comfortable gear; can’t beat that. And I’ve gone down at low speed in them several times, so they seem to do the trick.

I also ordered Leatt EXT knee/shin pads because they don’t have a “sock” design, so I can easily wear them over jeans.

Finally (other than helmets) I’ve got some wrist-guards I got for free from eWheels with my EUC and those actually ended up being my favorite so far. You can buy them separately for $19. I like them so much because I don’t have to take off my Apple Watch when I wear them. Which means I can use apps that show me speed, battery, etc. As well as just being all around convenient.

The Flexmeters seem like good kit. And they’re very comfortable. But they’re also long and feel like they probably conflict with longer elbow pads like the Fox pads.

Buttom line, T-Shirt and Shorts gear for me is JBM pads + eWheels wrist guards + helmet. Swap in the Leatt knee/shin pads if I’m wearing pants. And I’d probably throw on the Fox elbow pads instead of the JBM try to fit the Flexmeters if I felt like I was gonna be pushing it. And in the winter I’d wear an armored jacket instead of elbow pads.

Yo this is such good advice! I have a Maestro as well, and the first couple major dings really stung, and I was pretty bummed. But it ultimately still rides the same, and I would rather have taken the hits and had fun than been all dainty all the time. I have the same scooter that Bird uses and use it for daily commute. If you're not overweight (275+) you should be fine on slight hills and such.

I am above that weight limit and still have enough juice to do about 5 miles daily on a single charge.

I use it to get from Rosi village to Forest Hills and then the reverse commute is North Station to South Station and then Forest Hills to home.

It feels much safer and more comfortable riding in bike lanes than sidewalks, cars are not much of an issue I've found, traffic is usually slower than me eve ant 15-16.5mph


The biggest issue is fixing a patch if you pop a tire. Just take the wheel to a bike shop with a new inner tube (they sell thicker ones on amazon too) - costs about $15 to fix a flat. The reason I dont say DIY is cause it's a fucking PAIN to get the tire back on.


All in all, I love how it's modified my commute. I have done the full North Station to Roslindale commute (9mi in about 55min) went from full charge to 20%, but again, I'm a big guy so you have to think about that when considering distance. 3 miles you should be able to do in 20-25min no problem.

I ended up buying one of the models that Bird uses (M365 here) and have been in love with it. I use it as my main source of transportation now, and it gets me anywhere I need to go in the city.

I think with time the Public opinion on these will change as they're so much cheaper and energy efficient than cars for small trips.

I have owned 3, GOTRAX is about 300 on amazon and a solid one. I got a ninebot and really the only better thing is solid tires do I don't have to keep pumping up the tires.

I daily commute 3 miles outside bart, I could need to refill tires about one a week, sometimes twice.

It's not amazing, it'll last MAYBE two years, and then the battery and motor will start to degrade.

I currently am riding a Minimotors Speedway Mini 4 Pro (https://minimotorsusa.com/collections/speedway/products/speedway-mini-4-pro), which is significantly heavier (30lbs), but I ride it nearly 10 miles each way, to and from work, and still get home with roughly 50% battery. It ships with a limiting wire that makes it only go 15mph but it easily can go 28-30 if you unplug it.

maybe something like this. although its like sandpaper and wont come off easily. i've done this once. I cut a small reallly small line/blob and added it to the right button. Along the corner. so it would catch my fingers if it slipped or i could just press it w/o slipping.

use really good scissors and i wouldnt recommend covering the entire button as it is very rough.

I'm looking at getting into longboarding - my budget is about $150 CDN. Literally just to get to the coffee shop about a 15 minute walk from my house but I'm sick of walking. Removed some of the spacers to get it a bit lower and gottne the bearings running nice. It's a heavy board but all can really justify for this trip, as a above I've got enough time to walk the entire way if needed.

What's the best quality longboard that will get me some skater cred, I longboarded for over 3 years using $20-30 pawns shop boards, over 6 miles a day usually, I finally got out of high school and into the work feild and I wonder what a decent longboard is like.

I really like the stability and decent turning radius, it is for a semi urban areas with really kinda shitty roads and sidewalks, mainly for comfortable cruising from destination to destination.

I just got into longboarding a few weeks ago, my girlfriend tried to get me into pennyboarding but my feet are too damn big, so she bought me this board as a gift and I immediately fell in love with riding. It's a cheap board and I expected it to ride like a cheap board, but I didn't expect to outgrow it quite this fast.

I lose so much speed so fast and rocky/uneven pavement is a nuisance on extended rides. I know I can correct both of those by getting new bearings and wheels, but I'm honestly not sure where to start when it comes to shopping for them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As for just getting a new board - I actually really love the size of the board - it's small enough that I'd be perfectly okay riding it around my college campus every day and taking into class with me.

Is this long good for beginners?.

Butt/hip

I feel like hips are under talked about. After my first fall I got these. My hips were the most bruised up part. Even months later I can feel it.

You'd look awfully out of place with those work gloves on... I tried riding with my motorcycle gloves once, but they were too bulky to work the trigger comfortably (and they aren't even bulky gloves.) I'm sure you'd have the same issue with the leather ones. Leather gloves, in my experience, are very constricting. Maybe get a pair of wrist guards with the plastic protective part for the palm.

Edit: I forgot to mention.. they may look silly (or you might think they do), but they work well. They allow you to work a remote reasonably well, and keep you from having to deal with the pain of scraped hands and broken wrists.

Because I bought a BB for equal parts coolness to transportation ability, I'd honestly say that the best way to go is a TSG Pass because it's comprised of equal parts coolness factor and protection ability.

Speaking very generally, generally, airlines require anything outside 22x14x9 be checked.

Push start a first few times if you have to. Lean forward when hitting the throttle, lean back when braking. Also, wear your gear, if you're a new rider like me.

Finally, something I can contribute to here. I recently bought Xiami M365 e-scooter (cost me 425€, here is Amazon link, not how I bought it). I think I have it for a month or two. I logged around 270 km so far. I use it from home to train station, then I use train to city I work in, and then from train station to work. Its something like 2.5 km in each city in each direction. Advantage is that it is relatively light and compact (12.5 kg and the handle folds). It goes up to 25 kmh, battery is specified as making 30 km if you are 75 kg person. It can only carry one person of up to 100 kg, but I believe that even heavier person can use it, especially if you change type of tires.

Now, my impressions, it is perfect for me. I can bring it both to my office, and to my apartment (elevator not working, still not too much hustle). I can bring charger with me anywhere to add some extra mileage from it. It can be stored in car trunk (I was able to put it in trunk of Opel Corsa D, rather small car), thou I would avoid this if it is too hot and sunny outside. It is on a cheaper side, so it does have some problems, but nothing too serious, especially if you are familiar with bikes (changing of tire and staff like that).

Also, now, my whole daily is electrified in a country that usually has 55% electricity generation from renewables, which is nice.

These have worked well for me.

Depending on the thickness of the board, you may need to loosen them up or tighten them before applying. To avoid scratches and grooves, I’d open them up a little, make sure they’re on straight, then squeeze them tight. They’re made up of flexible metal segments under a rubber casing, so shaping them is sort of like bending stiff wire.

They are a little shapeable, so they’ll fit most designs with a little bending/molding.

I was riding this before the Shrike. I've noticed the board is a lot smoother to ride, I can go faster for longer off of one push, and I can actually manage pumping this board to maintain speed. The added length and concave also makes me feel more stable.

Hey all! I've been wanting to get into something new and recently my interest in skateboarding kicked in. I've always wanted to do it, but couldn't, due to where I lived. The 44 inch one (2nd) seems to be great, according to the videos and reviews I've checked on it, while people claim that the 34 inch (1st) can use a change of wheels. The thing is, I do want something that's more on the portable side, and I've never seen a 44 inch longboard (or any longboard actually) in my life, so I don't know just how tall that is, but I'm assuming it's not very easy to carry around? As compared to the 34 inch one atleast.

I picked up a cheap Quest Board from amazon. For the price I cant complain I guess. I just wanted something cheap to learn and cruise around on. After a week I started to feel like the board was too unstable, but after tightening up the trucks a bit it really helped. I'll probably ride this for a while until I feel the need for something better.

It was actually really cheap, only $60 for the complete.

I'm going to be 33 this year. Big boy, former ASU football player, and have NEVER rode a skateboard. My 13 year old daughter seemed to learn pretty quick on the longboard we got her and I'd love to skate with her, so I have a few questions:

Hey all, newbie here! I've been trying to learn how to pivot for a month or so I would say, and I don't think I've gotten anywhere.

I feel like part of the problem might be my board. I'm not trying to blame my materials instead of my obvious deficiency of course, but I can't help thinking about it. Currently I have the Quest Super Cruiser. It weighs 10 lbs and the wheels have a durometer of 80A.

I have a really old, crappy skateboard that I can do a pivot on with relative ease, which I guess isn't surprising as it's much shorter and lighter. But I also tried my friend's board briefly the other day and I felt like it was much easier to pivot (still couldn't manage it all the way). Her wheels were definitely harder (85A).

I looked up lists of longboards other people recommend for freestyle, and they were all around 7 and a half pounds, except they had a tad softer wheels. I'm pretty confused at this point.

I looked at a YouTuber I watch's set up video, and I think I know now that I want 85A wheels. Would this solve the problem though? I'm also aware that the pintail-ish shape isn't ideal for this style, but I hadn't done enough research when I first bought it. So would getting a different shape help too? Would it be worth it?

I'm looking to learn how to ride, I don't want to spend much on my first board until after I've learned. I've found this used board on craigslist and this new one off amazon.

Okay so I have a lot of questions... I'm sorry in advance, I'm really new to this.

I live in a fairly hilly town so power is a must. I'm looking for a dual motor setup with at least a 10-12 mile range. Some parts I picked already are listed below. All Except the trucks are subject to change. I'm going for a white primary with gold accents theme.

Hi guys. I've been convinced to pick up a full face helmet for longboarding and I'm wondering whether I'd be able to use it for snowboarding as well? It's a TSG Pass. I'd wear it without goggles as it has a visor. Does she shape, visor, hardshell fibreglass or anything else make it not viable for snowboarding? I can't see anything that would stop me from using it to snowboard.

These wrist guards are the ones I use and you still have control of the remote. I do however wish the battery percentage was in the top left instead of right, because even without wrist guards it gets covered up with my hand, and to me I'd rather know my battery percent over what mode I'm in.

I seem to be very unlucky with my electric vehicles. I truley do ride them carefully, when I go over bigger bumps i kinda pull up so the tires dont take a big hit and I take smooth roads and stay on bike paths, I never ride it in the rain even though technically I could. I have had an es2 break on me, an acton blink quatro( A $1700 BOARD) break so consistently that it spent more time in SF getting fixed than in my possession. Luckily I am kind of a pain in the ass about getting refunds so I haven't taken a financial hit from these I do take a mental hit when I have to spend hours on the line with tech support and customer service. I just want something that won't break under very normal operating procedures. the m365 seems to be the right one cause there are so many people that own them. I did already purchase the X7 now just cause I need it for transport and the initial answer I got was meh. I'm taking a chance on this one mainly cause the specs are more what I am looking for. Also I would but the xaomi pro if it was on amazon. my es2 refund just came through and it was given as amazon credit which I requested cause it would mean zero processing time and I did need a new one asap. If you're curious I can let you know how it is in a few months or if this one breaks on me too. In that case I would just buy a xaomi once and for all. The rules are frequently written by people who are only interested in pandering to the whims of large voting groups. And if that happens to result in the deaths of an "out" group, those large voting groups are perfectly OK with that. The laws in Australia, for example, with its shitty the bicycle infrastructure, will kill you if you follow the rules. This is why they are broken all the time. The infrastructure and to a smaller degree good social norms, are vastly more important.

Personally, I'm not a fan of electric scooters and I really loathe these sorry excuses for transport. I have come to the conclusion that I hate them not because they are particularly dangerous, but because they are just so amazingly uncool. Get this, you can buy your own one for $500 here. Cruising around on one of the through SM was almost as much fun as my motorcycle.

Other than that I agree with what the other guys said. Your issue isn't a motorcycle issue, it's a lack of ABS issue. If you get yourself a bike with ABS you can just grab a fistful or brake and it won't buck you off, no need to worry about the details.

It didn’t flex under my feet at all and I think it was way to big and heavy for me when I had it “I was like 5 foot 4 weighing only 90 pounds or so at the time”. And I am willing to pitch in a bit and spend more for a helmet. I don’t know much about brands for the boards but I do know that sector 9 has some really nice looking boards.

Hi! I'm a beginner and I'm shopping for my first board. I have an Amazon gift card so I'm kinda limited to just Amazon boards. I was pretty set on picking up the Quest Super Cruiser and some Zealous bearings because basically every beginner picks this board up to learn longboarding and the bearings would replace the standard crappy ones, but I just found this new board on Amazon called the Quest Super Cruiser Remix (basically a shorter version of the original Quest board). I can't find that many reviews online about it, but it's shorter (i'm on a college campus with tons of pedestrians so this would be a huge plus), and has a sick design (I love blue lol).
