I bought some silicone putty as a desk toy, and my favorite part was the website FAQ:

Q: Should I call the poison hotline if I accidentally ingest some of the putty?

A: The putty may be choking hazard for small children, but don't worry too much otherwise. You'll be able to play with it again in a few hours.

EDIT: Silicon is the element on the periodic table, and no one puts packets of silicone in food packages. Silica is what the OP meant, but I still like the story. It was Aaron's Thinking Putty, btw. This is not an ad, that stuff is just awesome.

Most people have already replied, but just in case you haven't seen it yet, this is most likely Aaron's Thinking Putty in Liquid Glass. If you're into that sort of thing as a stress toy, I can recommend the brand's other colors too, especially their metallic ones like Super Scarab. They look just as cool in person and they make excellent cube toys. Just like normal silly putty, they do tend to collect dust from surfaces though. I believe most of his putties are silicone based, couldn't tell you much more than that though.

I am sorry you are feeling this way, this habit is very difficult to resist, so please don't be too hard on yourself, you are not alone... Just know that it can get better if you make a plan and a conscious effort to stop. I don't think it will go away by itself (at least it didn't in my case until I created a strategy).

Magnifying mirrors are evil, it's incredibly difficult to resist them, so please do get rid of it.

Since you are also picking on your shoulders, it looks like getting rid of the mirror won't help completely - this subreddit has already posted a lot of good advice on how to help with picking, but couple of things I found particularly useful:

1. Create a progress chart - mark every day without picking and try to get the longest streak. E.g. this android app is very useful, and you can set multiple notifications a day to remind you of your commitment. Aim at a short streak first, say 3 days - it should be enough to heal sufficiently to reduce triggering you. Once you heal completely, it should be easier to keep it that way.
   
   
2. Hide mirrors or don't switch on light in the bathroom. You can use blue tack to cover a mirror with paper and then remove a piece of paper every time you put on make up.
   
   
3. Recognize your triggers and find a way of stopping them. E.g. if being in a bathroom ends with picking, always walk into a bathroom focusing on non-picking and your current streak. If you get into a trans in your room picking on your shoulders, try to wear clothing that makes it difficult to access them or find a way of breaking the trans (as soon as you recognize the trans, get up and go to the kitchen to get a snack).
   
   
4. Skin picking is a manifestation of an underlying stress, so try to find another way of releasing the stress. Different people will find different things, personally I found this useful.

2nd best: my fountain pen. And then a hell of a lot of ink.
runner up: my angel wrap blanket from amazon. So fluffy and versatile

worst: One time they had cookies on sale at my school for 25c a cookie and 50 for a glass of milk and I handed over all the money I had (like 10 bucks) and then got a very very bad tummy ache.
I'd do it again if I had the opportunity honestly

I have, but they definitely aren't a cure. I kind of have to alternate between them or I get bored and stop using one. The ones I use are:
-- a fidget cube (in my case, a fidget dodecagon
-- a tangle toy
-- thinking putty


I really want to get a spinner ring, but I keep forgetting to measure my ring size for my thumb and I want it to fit right.

I've had this problem since DK1. Good old silly putty strategically placed helps me.

Find something else to do with your hands when you're idle. I keep a small tub of this in my backpack. I also carry origami paper with me and fold paper cranes.

Make a list of 10 things that you have to do before you're allowed to pick at your skin. Suggestions: drink a glass of water, check your email, take a walk around the block, anything.

Don't beat yourself up about it or feel like a failure if you do. That's not helping either.

Some people are more tactile when they roll so having interesting things to touch can be really interesting. My wife loves manipulating putty because of the sensation and says it feels very satisfying. A great type to get is any type labeled "thinking putty" as they are usually much higher quality and are marketed for adults. This brand below is our favorite and comes in some really interesting colors!
