just disclaimer some of these toys should only be played with under your supervision so use your best judgement. Check any rubber or stuffed/fabric toys daily for wear and if you see it starting to come apart throw it away as any loose pieces can be swallowed and cause a blockage. My ferrets aren’t chewers they just like to have toys to stash so I’m not as worried but everyone’s ferrets are different so be careful. Also you could make a dig box with rice (never instant) or dried pasta which is a lot of fun for them. They love tunnels, they love to dig, and they love to steal and stash small objects so the toys meet that criteria they’ll be happy lol

Get yourself one of these. It will allow you to keep your crickets for a long time and offer them food and drink. I often ordered a hundred or so and kept them around for months

Stay with him for playtime
Put him in the bathroom with door closed.
Esp after shower. They like it warm
Give him a shallow bath. They love swimming in the bath!
This is also their fave way to poop, so be prepared for the cleanup.
Tube play areas for hamsters work well for lizards too..
Things like this:

I buy new toys all the time, the trick is to make sure its different because they get bored easily. My 2 girls LOVE the tunnel so much I'm getting the tent to go with it, paper towl rolls work, they love to play. You just gotta mix it up some times. Random boxes work also! https://www.amazon.com/your-orders/pop?packageId=1&ref=ppx_yo2_mob_b_pop&orderId=111-9908315-6997003&lineItemId=kkrmkxnopnkvsny&shipmentId=DBjSSxJPL

That bump is her clitoris. The males have a penis sheath that sits in the middle of their abdomen. Their actual penis folds over and is about 2/3 the length of their whole body. It stays inside the sheath unless they are cleaning it, so most people never see it. Here is a video showing the gender difference in baby squirrels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgg-vagVKKc

It is really not safe to sleep with her. I've read a lot of cases where people roll over and crush them in their sleep. We don't stay still when we are sleeping, and they are so small that you won't feel them when you roll over on top of them. It's very dangerous to sleep with them.

For beds, they like things that hang like this https://www.amazon.ca/Ware-Manufacturing-Hang-N-Tunnel-Crinkle-Sleeper/dp/B000HG734S/ But you can also make her a cabin out of any box and stuff it with fleece, old tshirts, old sheets, etc. Just don't use towels as their claws get caught in them. Put the bed into the cage so that she starts to think of that as home. They like their beds to have roofs because it helps them feel secure.

Please no more water, pedialyte, peanut butter, coconut oil, anything else that is solid (except block) and cut the nuts way down. In fact, don't give any more nuts until she is eating block of her own volition and apparently likes it. She should have a chunk of rodent block to teethe on at all times, and don't give her any other solids until she is eating the blocks.

That she did not like the syringe right away is only because you started with a dropper. Droppers are not safe and should only be used in the very short term when you can't get anything else. Squirrels are creatures of habit, like any animal. Don't assume that you know better than an expert because she seems to like or dislike one thing or another, such as the dropper vs the syringe. She will not like the rodent blocks at first, either, and this is because you have been giving her so many nuts. But she needs them, and you need to get her used to them. Be a good squirrel father and make sure she eats healthy food (blocks and formula) before she eats treats. Ideally, this means cutting out the nuts completely until she is eating blocks. This is a life and death issue, so don't kid yourself about its importance. I recommend harlan teklad 2018, and they need to eat blocks so long as they are living indoors, no exceptions. Leave a block in her bed for night time teething at all times and change it as necessary.

I was not kidding about how difficult they are to live with. Do not make the mistake of thinking that Eth is an exception. Baby squirrels are super easy in comparison to adults. Do you live in a location where you could possibly do a back yard release? If not, then it is almost certainly better for both of you that she go to a rehabber. Please think about all this very carefully, and don't be blithe about it. Don't be guided solely by your feelings, either, because it is normal to fall in love with a baby squirrel. Sometimes love means making difficult choices because what is most pleasant for us might not be good for the loved one.

Addendum: If she gets weak, tired acting, colder than usual and/or if you hear faint wheezing/clicking when she breathes, she needs to go on a general antibiotic RIGHT AWAY. It is a waiting game now to see whether or not she develops aspiration pneumonia because of your getting fluid into her lungs. She might be strong enough to fight the infection on her own, but it is at least as likely that she will not be. If she shows signs of being overwhelmed by the infection, then she needs medicine or else she will die.

My girls use the same thing and love it:
[](Kaytee Simple Sleeper Play Tunnel, Colors Vary https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002ASAYG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uq4gybWMAKFTE)
Some of my girls really loved this, while others preferred the first one because it didn't wiggle as much:
[](Ware Manufacturing Fleece Hang-N-Tunnel Crinkle Sleeper for Small Pets - Colors May Vary https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HG734S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Xs4gybAT7P2RN)
I look up ferret, sugar glider, etc. a lot when looking for stuff for my girls cages. There are a lot more products if I look outside of the "rat" search. Oh also we zip tie those rat ball things (the ones meant for you to put them into so that they run around outside their cage) to the walls of the cage with the lids off and they love to sleep, bathe, and do other rattie things inside and on them

u/w0rldwith0ut · 2 pointsr/hamsters

The fact that she's a female syrian means she's going to need a LOT of space. I'd get something along the lines of an Ikea detolf or a Christmas tree bin. Like you said this hits the bare minimum of floorspace for syrian hamsters.

as for toys, i'll send some links of toys i got for my syrian! this first one will be great for your girl since she loves burrowing.

Minnie (named by her 5th grade students) is perfectly fine otherwise. She sleeps fine, eats fine, loves being handled but when she is hit with that "I need to move" mouse thang (when most mice will hit the vertical wheel to burn it off) she just goes in horizontal clockwise circles.

I recently ordered a cage extension for her that is flat and round. We are not going to put anything in it (no food, litter, etc.) and hope that she treats it like her "wheel" when she feels that need to run.

u/TehRen · 2 pointsr/RATS

Ah, now I got this one from a local pet store but I did a bit of digging and found out that this kind is the Little Friends tunnel tube :) They have them on Amazon UK but they might be further afield too :) Or the styles will be anyway... they love it! This kind has a hole on the top so they can peek out too :)

u/vairuh · 2 pointsr/guineapigs

My pigs LOVE their crinkle tunnel. It was an impulse purchase on amazon, and has been their most used toy ever!

It's adorable to watch them run through back and forth. Sometimes they stop inside it and rustle around for extra crinkle-iness.

I get all my fleece from JoAnn stores. They often have fleece at 50% off per yard, so you can buy it in bulk and use it as needed. Any large fabric store will have lots of fleece in stock (I just prefer JoAnn because that's the best one I have in the area I live in). I'm sure you know this already, but just in case, please don't use cedar or pine chips as bedding for your rats; it's harmful to them. You can use fleece or aspen chip bedding (but freeze the aspen for 48 hours prior to use to make sure it's free of parasites).

I buy many rat toys on Amazon, and make some myself. If you're buying any kind of wooden rat toy, do be aware that many of them are made from soft woods like pine and cedar, which are super bad for rat respiratory systems. Hardwood toys are usually safe—just make sure it's not a combination wood that also has pine or cedar in it along with the hardwood. I personally do not buy wood toys on amazon, because the products often don't list what kind of wood they're made of. The only wood product I buy on Amazon is bags of untreated apple branch chewing sticks. I'll link you to some rat-safe toys and accessories I buy on amazon below! :)

I buy Harlan Teklad (Envigo) food blocks for my rats, which is one of the top two for rats (the other is Oxbow Regal Rat). Harland Teklad is hard to find though, so I buy mine through this animal rescue:
http://weecompanions.org/healthy-food

If you get these blocks, freeze them to extend their shelf life, and take them out from the freezer as needed to fill your ratties' bowls. Harlan Teklad is great because they have several formulas for rats based on their age, which is super helpful for their health. Young rats up to 8 months usually eat Harlan Teklad 2016 (16% protein), and after 8 months they eat Harlan Teklad 2014 (14% protein).

Also, I don't have a link for this, but the best laundry detergents to use to wash your rats' cloth toys or bedding with is one that's non-scented and is sensitive on skins.

Um, if I think of anything else, I'll add it. But for now, it's already a ton. :P Enjoy!

(And feel free to message me if you have any questions!)

It's called a Fun Tunnel. :) I got one at PetSmart a while ago and they also sell them on Amazon

u/dvs_l8_in · 1 pointr/Rabbits

Not sure what your budget is or what type of cage you have but I used these type of wire cubes to built a bigger home for my bun. For ideas on how to make a door/entrance take a look at this thread from a few weeks ago.

You can also try to put mats against the wires so he doesn't chew the wires and gets a snack instead. If he doesn't pay much attention to the mats you can try what I do at times, I get the treats (see link below) and rub it against the mats so it's more a more appetizing snack.

A few other suggestions when you move and have bigger space:

  • Tunnels - Options 1 - for this one just keep an eye on the hanging ball - my bun chewed right through the string to get rid of the ball but otherwise loves the tunnel, Option 2, Option 3

    Treats (recommended by her vet)

I also agree with a lot of the suggestions here, I have the Living World Teach treat toy and my bun just loves it, though doesn't care for other toys but lives for cardboard boxes. Hope this helps!

I use flukers cricket quencher and powdered food, and a cricket keeper. I have very little die off, and can avoid going to the store weekly for crickets, woo!

http://www.amazon.com/Lee-20078-Kricket-Keeper-Large/dp/B0002DHAWQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411860796&sr=8-1&keywords=cricket+keeper

http://www.amazon.com/Flukers-High-Calcium-Cricket-11-5-Ounce/dp/B002DWTJBO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1411860804&sr=8-4&keywords=cricket+food

tried their orange food/water and it smells awful when it dries out. The water pillows don't last long and I had alot of death with them. Potatoes or apples work, but they dont stay damp as long as the quencher does. So after much trial and error, thats the best combo I found.

Hmm have you seen the keepers with the black tubes connected to the lid? Basically they crawl into the black tubes which you can remove then use to feed with.

Well, I spoil my rabbit, Buster, rotten. I rescued him a little over a year ago from someone who found him roaming around in her yard. She put flyers up everywhere as he was clearly domestic, but to no avail. It was a week after Easter and as you can see here, he's white so we think he was "released" by some owners who thought he could survive on his own. It really is a good thing she found him, because he has absolutely no natural instincts, he loves my parent's dogs, even though our rescue (Casper, in the album) is terrified of him! Our other dog just wants to lick him until she considers him properly groomed (when his fur is SOAKING wet!). I included some bonus dog pics in the album too!

Buster has brought so much joy to my life and i can't imagine my life without him. He doesn't really like toys that much (believe me, I've tried), but he has his special hiding places, which is why I think this tunnel would be perfect for him.

Thank you so much for doing this! Aren't they cute?

u/ETL4nubs · 1 pointr/Rabbits

Rabbit Tunnel!

He runs through it and is constantly moving it around the room. It's pretty funny when he sticks his head out of the window in the middle.

u/Nistune · 1 pointr/hamsters

Nah they don't eat it, they kind of rub it on their face and also use it to pee in sometimes.

The Carolina storm wheel is pretty good for Syrians, it's 10.5 inches and really quiet, but you can only get it online.

A really good option for tunnels is the bendy bridges and there is this, which is kinda big but you could just not expand all of it.

I had my last hamster in the UK and it was so much easier to get Syrian sized tubes and stuff :c I wish more eu sites did us shipping.

u/JokerJosh123 · 1 pointr/guineapigs

We just bought the biggest cage in our local pet shop, but I'll set myself a reminder to check there this weekend and find out the make of it. The tubes are just one of these cute in two to be attached onto the ramps: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002PIUXN4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Gr0CCbZY6CQ8Y
