Get a Sunrise Alarm Clock

Seriously. I was skeptical until I started using it.

u/sebert14 · 6 pointsr/ADHD

My husband also has ADD and is an absolute disaster in the morning. I try not to complain, but it's hard. But, we have some things that have truly helped ease the burden on both of us.

  1. My husband has a terrible time waking up. We bought a Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker. This is damn near impossible to sleep through.

  2. Once awake, my husband is so out of it and has NO sense of time and how much time has passed. He kept running late because he would stay in the shower too long, as 20 minutes only felt like 5 to him. We got two shower clocks and put one in the shower and one next to the vanity.

  3. We added a (small entry way mail basket](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WWRLKHH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_dU3lzbX8FEQW1) with hooks for his wallet and our keys. Make sure they get put there as he enters the home each day.

  4. Plan ahead. My husband takes a mug of iced coffee each morning and his lunch for the day. I make sure to make sure this is ready the night before or as he's in the shower, depending on my own schedule. My husband wears essentially the same thing each day, but if your husband needs to select an outfit daily, do it the night before.

  5. He keeps his medicine in his nightstand (medicine cabinet is not the best idea with guests/ children/ maintenance employees in our apartment.

Finally, the mess. I don't think there will ever be a perfect answer for this. My husband's thing is he works in IT and ALWAYS thinks he'll need this part/ cord/ software book for a random issue in the future. He also starts many projects and doesn't complete them before moving on to the next thing. It takes a lot of communication to let him know to get this out of the way or I'm throwing it away. It's also really hard at the moment because we moved from a rental house in the suburbs to an apartment in the city and we just don't have enough room for everything. If you figure this out, I'd love to know your secret.

If you like meat, I highly recommend one of these bad boys, especially for marinating. You apply dry spices and a little olive or other oil to meats as appropriate, then give them a once-over on both sides with this and marinate for some hours or overnight depending on the recipe. The flavor goes everywhere and the resulting meat is surprisingly tasty and juicy.

In the meantime, you can get a reasonable facsimile for about $30

Those Accurite wall clocks come in 14.5" and 18", and 4 colors.

Thats a 14.5 in Red.

Oddly Red is considerably cheaper than the other colors right now.

>that can just make everyday life a little nicer, more luxurious etc.

If this is the goal, you can upgrade something he currently has and uses frequently. One way to think about this is to do an inventory of his typical day -- what items does he interact with or consume all the time? So, if he wakes up pretty early and relies on an alarm clock, you could get him a smart sunrise alarm clock or one that projects on the ceiling.

If he drinks coffee, you could upgrade his coffee bean grinder or get him a French press. (I like the Bodum brand, which is top rated on Wirecutter.) Speaking of, I find the Wirecutter website to be a good source for upgrade ideas. I was going to suggest upgrading bed sheets, but that might go over budget and be hard to fit in a suitcase!

And etc. If there's a specific item you want to upgrade, feel free to come back and ask for suggestions!

This is the best alarm clock I have ever owned. You might want to try it. Also has many dim settings.

This space is killer. I'm envious of the high ceilings and wooden floors. The bed frame and stop sign table are cool, and I really like the way the posters look above your couch. I agree with you on the sofa though, it's a bit frumpy. Society6 also has some throw pillows 1
2 3 I think you might like. I'd recommend investing in a more ergonomic desk chair before upgrading the couch though. If you replace the large clear bins with black or white ones, like the small ones you already, it'd help with a sleaker look. If you move your bulletin board above your desk, you can use that shelf for a small bar area instead of having bottles interspersed throughout your books and magazines. These are two 1
2 cheap wine rack options that I think would work. I think with some reorganizing you could fit your record players on the shelf wall, or just turn them so they are flush with the window wall. This would help hide the wires and make a more open conversation area. Here's a crappy ms paint edit.

I'm assuming that the unit is on and running in the inside and outside of the condo and it's blowing air out of the vents. If not, call an AC contractor right away.

If my assumption is correct, we can troubleshoot it.

First, get something like this. You need to know what the actual temperature is in your rooms away from the vents and, since it's Florida, the humidity.

AC is a closed system, meaning that it's circulating and cooling air from inside your house, because bringing in outside air would be incredibly inefficient. If everything's working right, you should be able to hold almost whatever temp you want and you should show 60% humidity or less.

  1. Make sure that the temperature the thermostat thinks it is is accurate. I've seen some that are off by up to 3 degrees, so you think you're setting it for 75 and it's really set for 78 and you're wondering why you're too warm...

  2. If your new thermometer/hygrometer says humidity is high (>60%), then outside air is getting into the system. That means there's a leak, probably in a cold air return duct.

  3. If humidity is a little high but the room temperature is also high, you need to measure the temperature of the air coming out of the vents. It should be 13+ degrees cooler than the rest of the room, IIRC. The correct way to do this is right at the air handler inside the ducts, but we're not looking for a precise diagnosis. If the air coming out of the vents isn't cool enough, there's either a problem with the unit (insufficient refrigerant, bad TXP valve, a leak, etc.) or hot attic air is leaking into the ducts on the way back from the air handler.

Since it's your condo, can you have the power company do a home energy audit? If there are duct problems, they will find them, and if they do, they will contribute toward the cost of repair. They're paying for more than half of my duct repair later this month.

Also, call a local AC contractor. It's around $80 to get a maintenance call where they just inspect and check everything. Remember, the power company/duct guys do not care about the air conditioner hardware and the AC contractor does not care about the duct work. They may say otherwise, but in my experience, they each work on their own thing.

No joke, I went and bought a [shower clock](KADAMS Digital Bathroom Shower Kitchen Wall Clock Timer with Alarm, Waterproof for Water Spray, Touch Screen Timer, Temperature Humidity Display with Suction Cup Hanging Hole Shelf Stand - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXRZ36R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3TNPCbWZSMR07) so I never had to worry about that again. Hi guys! I am a chef, Rockabelly, and I wanted to share with you my recipe for...

Carne Asada: (Grilled Steak)

Flank steak - any size 1 cup of orange juice (I had some Clementine’s in the fridge and they worked fine!) Garlic powder to taste Salt and Pepper to taste

If you have a tenderizing tool (http://www.amazon.com/Deni-MT45-Meat-Tenderizer-Blade/dp/B002R0FRHC) give the steak a quick tenderizing.

Next, mix the orange juice, garlic, salt and pepper together and poor it onto the steak. Letting it sit for no more than 8 hours because the acid in the juice will start the cooking process. After marinating, grill steak to desired doneness. I find med, med rare to be the best for flavor.

Chimichurri (Used in South America)

For this you will need to either finely chop by hand or with food processor:

1 bunch flat leaf parsley 1/2 bunch of fresh oregano 4 cloves garlic minced 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 1/4 cup red wine vinegar 1 teaspoon lime juice 1 tablespoon diced red onion 1 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 teaspoon salt

I like to use this table side as a salsa, but you can also use as a marinade for steak, chicken or pork. Do not make any more than 2 hours in advance.

Serve with fried plantains, rice and beans!

Happy Cooking!

I was going to say congrats on your new place, but it sounds like just your address changed? So... congrats on your new address! Yay!

I've had this clock sitting on my WL for quite a while. My roommate and I finally decided where we want to put it in our apartment, so I'm gearing up for some new decorating :)

Thank you for the contest!!

u/PotentialPeach · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

The biggest thing that is a silly wish that will NEVER come true is a Nightmare Before Christmas clock. I mean...it is epic, but $225 for a clock is on the never gonna happen list.

I'm not really asking for anything this year. I know about what I will get and it will be nice. My kids will get me leggings, parents a Disney gift card, mil gift card to something or a pile of things from the $1 store, grandmother in law a aaa membership and a wall calendar I will forget to use. Husband will find me something I like.

I guess the one real thing on my wishlist would be Studio Ghibli films or a Nightmare Before Christmas purse. I know they aren't going to be gotten, but they are fun to look at while I Amazon window shop!

Thanks, I suspected as much

It doesn't feel humid or damp but I don't really know what 79% humidity feels like compared to 50%.

I'll see what it says tomorrow and then if its still high just throw it in the bin

For anyone curious, it was this model..

I'm thinking about hiding this clock, and relying on the projection. I wonder if it would be too distracting.
