• Dry erase pockets. Absolutely my #1. I use a white sheet of paper in them to make it a mini white board, or you can slide in a worksheet and they can write on it and then erase it - fewer copies! We use these all the time to play games, practice verb conjugations and other grammar, etc. I have enough for everyone to get their own, or sometimes they work in partners or groups.
  
• Cotton make-up remover rounds. These make great erasers for the mini whiteboards.
  
• Organizer drawers. Great for however the heck you want to organize 100000 things.
  
• Multi-color Jenga sets. You can make the different blocks represent different types of challenges - I like to use the 6 colors to match the 6 personal pronouns r 6 tenses of whatever. If you pull that color block, you have to make a sentence in the corresponding form for whatever we're practicing.
  
• I put a supply box in the middle of each table (groups of 4) with pens, pencils, erasers, white=out, highlighters, paper clips, scissors, and glue. That way they don't have to ask me for things. Things don't disappear as often as you'd think - more often I find stuff the kids leave behind and throw it in.
  
• Index cards. Great for millions of things.
  
• Giant foam dice.
  
• Essential oil diffuser. Kids are smelly.
  
• Hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes. Kids are gross.
  
• My first year, I had kids make final project posters explaining concepts (present tense, preterite/imperfect, ser/estar, etc.) as review. Now I can hang them up in the classroom. They're way more artistic than I am and it's a free source of classroom decor/resources.
  
• Flyswatters - for the flyswatter game. (Look it up if you don't know it - this could be used in any subject!)
  
• A variety of balls in different sizes - a beach ball (with the 6 pronouns on it), light-up balls, etc.
  
• Play-Doh - can be used as sculpting pictionary and the kids love it.
  
• Playing cards.
  
• An electronic doorbell. This one gets weird looks from the kids, but it's great. You plug it in wherever, and if you need kids to STFU or stop what they're doing, rather than try to make yourself heard, you just hit the button and the tone goes off.
  
• Anything that helps you color code. I had a different color folder for each section and I put all their work in there so I never had to spend time searching - I could tell at a glance.
  
• Binder clips of all sizes.
  
• An emergency kit - mine had bandaids, Advil, make-up remover wipes, a lint roller, contact solution, cough drops, floss, a toothbrush and toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, etc. I avoided a lot of kids going to the nurse for band-aids and cough drops, and the rest was for me. I kept it all in a box behind my desk.
  
• A clicker/pointer for my computer/projector.

KUBB! It's a lawn game that works well with two people. But if you live in a cold climate, I can see how this might not work.

I may or may not jumped the gun on buying this for my just turned 4 month old (I don't intend on giving it to him until later) but it's recommended for ages 1 and up.

You know what adults really love at things like this? Shit they actually would use and not throw away. Like a cast iron pan, or a chef's knife (side note: I wouldn't buy that personally but it's the best looking one I can find for $25). I still have a blanket that I got from a White Elephant a few years ago. Doesn't match a thing in my house, but it's comfy and comes in handy all the time.

For the kids, and adults honestly, I'd recommend a nerf gun (expect to remember people getting shot with it the entire rest of the party), Jenga, or a mini helicopter.

Even if a kid gets stuck with a cast iron pan you know their parents are going to give them twenty bucks for it to make em happy.

Apples to Apples, Dixit, Jungle Speed, Pictionary, Anomia, SET, Loaded Questions, and Jenga are a few that come to mind where the adults wouldn't necessarily have an advantage over the kids. Also Fluxx and We Didn't Playtest This are both hilarious card games that would be perfect for kids in that age range, but I have a blast playing them with other adults on a regular basis too; Spaceteam looks like another good one but I haven't personally played it. If you're looking for more involved strategy games, Ticket to Ride and Carcassone would be fine for that age, just require more of a learning curve. Cranium and Quelf are silly games that involve a variety of tasks (drawing, acting, singing, trivia, etc) and although they're supposedly aimed at adults, kids love them too (just skip cards that are too hard; or you could also consider the kids' versions of both games, Cranium Cadoo and Quelf Jr.). Uno (or Crazy Eights with a regular deck of cards) is always a classic, and you can always play charades or the category game!

edited to add: not sure about a good choose your own adventure story, but Mad Libs are always fun!

I loved these giant bricks so much at that age! Superfun for basic stacking as well as advance building.

Should probably wait a bit on this one, but Cootie is the best game ever for the preK & K crowd. Another classic game is Memory.

Have some construction paper, brown paper bags (I cut the bottoms off, then down one seam and use the backside as kraft paper), markers, and crayons. Even the 2 year old can rip paper up and stick it to contact paper to make fun collages! Bonus, no need for scissors!

And please don't forget books! Board might be best for the little girl, but if she's not an eater/tearer, then go ahead and get paper or hard backs. Rikki Tikki Tembo, a Seuss collection, Where's Spot, some Eric Carle, Carl, Richard Scarry, Jamberry, and some Little Golden Books ought to be a good start! Protip: Thrift shops have tons of books for kids in great condition.

What he needs is something like a jenga stacking tool, maybe with the other end still attached, cut out of the corner of a box.

When I was a kid, I really liked the game Cootie.

My 15 month old is obsessed with this and when a 2.5 year old visited he also loved it. No small parts so would be safe for baby too.

I also live in the minneapolis area and decided to just buy my own set from amazon for $50. I mathed it out and it will cost $25 if I purchased my hardwood at home depot. I don't have the proper tools and didn't want to worry about uneven cuts with a circular saw, so I decided to just buy a hardwood set from amazon.

This is the set I bought. Of course, building them yourself makes for a better gift.

Edit: okay now I'm trying to recreate how I possibly was able to build a hardwood set with only $25 and I can't figure out what I did. I had to have made a mistake somewhere...

Edit2: what the heck, a single 6 foot 4x4 (oak) is $56? Am I insane or is that ridiculously expensive? Apparently ipe is cheaper than oak, so maybe that's better to look into.

Edit3: Here is a 1x4 oak board home depot sells, so you could buy four 6 footers and glue them together. That would be $34. Then just buy the hardwood dowels. In the end it would probably put you around $50.

Man, it's not even financially worth building one yourself. You might be better off just buying the hardwood set I linked above (it's unfinished), and custom staining them.

When I read that, the first thing I thought of was Cootie.

I would suggest getting ingredients for you both to cook and an easy favorite meal of ya'lls. Then watch a movie on Netflix or have rented something from Redbox. But make a rule, NO internets or devices during the night in. Only have them set to the side in case of emergencies or some such. While watching the movie sit close to one another, hold hands, cuddle.

If movie is not interesting have some board or card games set out that ya'll like to play. Jenga, is a fun 2 person game, or (don't have on WL, cause already own) Yahtzee is fun too.

Then ya'll could move it to the bedroom and really enjoy each other! Full body messages! Buy a few new toys for you and him maybe to spice the night up. NSFW.

Just enjoy each other and and have a great night! After 6 years with my wife I know we can get complacent but it's good to even just hold hands while watching tv on regular nights. Gotta keep the connection!
