I have this same issue, it's even my right knee! happened 13ish years ago. I'm bordering the high end of what weight is healthy for my size, so I'm not super overweight, but I'm not fit at all. I don't always wear a brace, but if I'm doing something active (hiking or whatever) I at least bring it. Last fall both knees got injured, and I went to physical therapy. It REALLY helped, they gave me a sheet to do which helps maintain, I've gotten bad about doing it and my knees have regressed a bit, so I'm trying to do them again. I have 3 resistance bands from easy to more resistance, like these.

Just real quick, I'm not a doctor, or physical therapist, and ALWAYS listen to your body! It's good to push through minor discomfort, feel the stretch, but if something hurts, STOP.

One of the things they also explained, was that it's not just the muscles on the knee, but all of the ones crossing from the thigh and the calves that have to be worked on. The tension from those pull on the patella too. I do both knees, my left actually has issues from compensating for the right at times, so you may consider working both.

Now before they started they would put hot packs on, to help loosen up the muscles, I don't at home though. Then start stretching, I hold these 20 seconds 3 times (my sheet is at home atm):stretch 1 Stretch 2 You hold down the leg, and feel the stretch down the back/outer side of the thigh. Stretch 3 You are pushing into the forward foot to stretch the calf muscles. to stretch it more, put the ball of your foot on the wall so your toe is angled up.
These are the first exercises they started me with you can make your at home leg lifts work out more by strapping weights like these to them. You can see one in the bottom right exercise. This would be after you've been doing it a few weeks and need more resistance.
From this sheet, I did the leg raises 10 x2, Step ups 10 x2 Resisted knee 10 x2, and knee stabalization 10 times per direction with the resistance band, repeat once more.

They Iced me 10 minutes after, which helped recovery. What I do everyday takes maybe 20-30 minutes (twice a day is best!), when I went it was 1-1.5 hours twice a week. They also worked me up to doing lunges, which I do at home, but that came later. Ellipticals are GREAT because there is no impact of your foot hitting the ground. Swimming is also great because it's supporting you and there is no impact, which is hard on the knees.

Recently ran into this same issue myself. I purchased some ankle weights on Amazon that I just strap onto each side of the bar that's worked super well for me.

The reason a weighted onesie isn’t common (I can’t say it doesn’t exist, maybe it does in bespoke cases for very specific people) is because the design itself isn’t practical.

Ankle weights and wrist weights (which are often sand-filled) exist and achieve the same result as a shin or forearm weight in a much better form factor.

You could purchase adjustable ankle weights such as these (https://www.amazon.com/Reebok-Adjustable-Ankle-Weight-Sets/dp/B00ELBLE3Q). Simply slide both weights onto either side of the barbell to add 5lbs/2.2kg to the barbell, or take off about 1lb/0.45kg from each ankle weight to add ~2.5lbs/1.1kg to the barbell.

ok, here is what you can and maybe should do:

there are glasses for looking longer times at monitors, like these here. they reduce the blue light -> less eye strain and easier to sleep.

try to get off sugar step by step (year by year), not all at once:

  • go from sugar rich drinks to mainly water
  • reduce sugar intake through food (fat is super OK though)
  • avoid also sugar replacements

    do some sports, especially good would be fighting sports, karate, judo, hema, etc. and swimming (especially endurance swimming). or anything else with meditation character.

    have a regular sleep cycle.

    for school you could attach some weights, those stimulate and reduce the urge for movement. like this and/or this

You have to pull them on really tight to keep them from sliding around, might be worth trying with an armband underneath. It's definitely a challenge to hit a fast run but absolutely a workout.

I also did 5 lbs at a time until I began to struggle. I bought these, instead of mircoplates. It's a 5 lb set and each weight has 5 half pound sand bags that you can take out, so it's adjustable from .5 lb up to 5 lbs.

To be honest, the weight to straighten the leg was almost ineffective for me.

The PT used to put my ankle on the top of a rolled small towel and push my knee down. Also he used to make me lay on my back, sit on my good leg, took the leg with the problem and push it back and up to make it totally straight. After three painful sessions, my knee was totally straight. This was done after 4-5 weeks after surgery.

Friend of mine at school used to train with ankle weights, he was 5'9 and everyone was amazed that he could dunk.

I'll attach a link below, he used 10LBs per ankle and all he ever did was train with them on no matter what he was doing. I think he even wore them on a day to day basis for a while to help trick his body thinking he weighed more than it does.

FINALLY A QUESTION IN MY WHEEL HOUSE!! I feel so useless most of the time here.

Right now I am using a light stand like /u/funbob posted. I am using a 3/4 inch PVC pipe. I put some electrical tape inside the pipe to make it pretty snug over the light stand, no rocking at all.


THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THE WEIGHTS!! Get some of these (probably cheaper locally) and put them on the center column at the bottom:

I've done this. Here are the weights I have. I bought the 5 pound set.

They definitely make for a work out, especially in anything that requires lifting your arms a lot, like Audioshield, Hover Junkers, bow shooting games, etc.

What I like: Good workout. Arms get sore.

Dislikes: They slip around a bit. I forget to wear them. If I hit my ceiling with the controllers, I do so with more force than otherwise.

I would recommend getting some, but they are not quite the workout or experience I was hoping for. They do not make things like sword battles feel any more real.

My first thought was this because you not only can use it for pushups; but also it's useful for yoga exercises!

My second thought was this! because you can bring them with you and they are great training aids, makes you work much harder with them on, and makes you feel so much lighter and faster when you aren't wearing them.

My PT had me taping measured bags of beans or rice to my ankles for knee therapy at one point. Or you could be a little more official about it and get weights that strap to you. I was able to balance out and increase my leg strength with this, so it should definitely work for arms. If you want to invest, get the ones that you can adjust the weights on as you progress!
