Looks like there are a bunch of different kinds-this just happened to be the first Amazon result when I googled ‘floor pull up bar.’ Might have to pick one up myself!

u/Joshua_Naterman · 7 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

I tend to agree with /u/andersonah, based on relative safety concerns with each.

I'll tell you right now, you need to be very particular about your approach to the rings.

  1. Start with nothing but support holds, and don't worry about the shaking: after 2 weeks that will be gone, it is just a motor learning thing.

  2. Continue your dips on your current set up.

  3. As you get used to the rings, start doing negatives with 1-2 second holds all the way down to parallel (upper arms parallel to the ground).

Slowly transition into one set of ring dips with perfect form and stability, and don't add more than 1 set per week. It is ok to go slower.

I am recommending that you consider weighted dips with option 4 or 5 first, though.

  4. STRONGLY consider making a PVC dip station. Use 1.5" schedule 40 PVC... it will cost ~45 bucks, same as the rings.

  5. You could buy this for 70 bucks and free shipping. If you don't have prime you can venmo me the money and I'll order it and ship it with my prime.

I just picked up one of these dip stations from amazon for $50.

Feels very sturdy, easy to move around, and you can do dips and inverted rows on it. From a price and effort stand point it'd be hard to beat.

u/-Skinwalker- · 6 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

Honestly at that point I would just buy a full freestanding setup. One of these.

I have this which I bought a few years ago when it was cheaper. It collapses and doesn't take up much room at all. I can assemble/disassemble it in 15 seconds. It might be too pricey right now, but you can find other collapsible dip stands for cheaper.

Also, for the chairs, you can try putting something weighted on the seat so they are more stable and you can try putting a towel on the back so it's more comfortable to grip.

Walking is extremely effective! But, I'm in a similar boat.

Too cold / icy conditions for long walks. But if you have bad joints (I have extremely bad shoulder and heel problems from injuries), you can still workout with a highly effective routine. I'll give you a few steps you can take.

First, read this post by /u/Antranik.

Next, save this image of progressions somewhere and then design a program using the bodyweight fitness faq. Or just follow the image cap progressions. They are very similar.

You can start using two sturdy chairs, a door, or basically anything that lets you do a row and a dip.

Finally once you make some progress, invest in some low-cost equipment.

  1. A dip station - something like this.
  2. Wooden Olympic rings with measured straps.
  3. A mat of some sort.
  4. A foam roller for your joints.

You might consider investing in the foam roller now. If you don't already have one, they hurt at first but are totally worth it.

For the most part you'll be focused on the flexability and body alighment work. And keep in mind, easy progressions! Get to a place where you can do 3-4 sets of 8 easily and start with 5 sets of 4-5 with the next progression.

To stay motivated, I like to workout in my room while listening to books on tape, crime podcasts, or the news on the radio.

The tempo of spoken word helps me keep my effort even and is mentally stimulating during rests.
u/Kazia_Thornhill · 4 pointsr/swoleacceptance

I have been looking at one brother, I have read that it's better to get one you can put in the wall on studs in the wall. From what I heard the door ones aren't as safe cause they can slip. But I have not used either. If you can't do that then maybe something like this.

This power rack is an excellent price from Amazon.

If you can stand on the beams with 1 foot without them bending or anything like that then the beams with be fine. The difficulty will be connecting the bar to the beams. I can't comment on that, since I don't know anything about your beams.

u/sac_boy · 4 pointsr/CasualUK

If you've already got decent core strength from poledancing I bet you'd do great with a calisthenic workout. Nice part about that is you can do it all in your living room on a mat, maybe with a set of parallettes. Push ups, body rows, planks and so on. You can get plenty buff with nothing but bodyweight exercises and the right diet.

u/bellowingbullfinches · 3 pointsr/Atlanta

I got this one on Amazon. It feels very safe and sturdy, but I don’t necessarily recommend it. One of the handles is crooked (see photos in the Amazon reviews... apparently other people have had the same issue), which isn’t a huge deal, but it’s annoying given the price.

It does only take about twenty seconds to (dis)assemble, and it takes up virtually no space when disassembled, so it’s great if you’re limited on space and don’t mind the crooked handle. If you aren’t limited on space and don’t plan on disassembling it often, I would go for a different one.

I have one of these.

u/truncatedusern · 3 pointsr/homegym
  • Ab wheel ($12.96)
  • Collapsible weight bench ($112.00)
  • Dip station ($79.99)

Total: $204.95, plus any tax and shipping.

Note that the parallel bar station does not store as easily as you might like. It's very useful, though; you can use it for dips, bodyweight rows, L-sit training, etc. The paralette bars linked by batman1285 are probably a good substitute, though they won't give you as much clearance from the ground.
u/3rdweal · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

Would buying something like this be a good idea?

I would buy one of those door frame pull-up bars but I'm convinced that I'll pull and interior wall down.

u/ghostinthepost · 2 pointsr/homegym

It's this one, http://www.amazon.com/Black-Mountain-Stand-3000-Pound-Dip/dp/B00EPKRUGS/

It's pretty good. Doesn't move around or shake when you use it. Also works for like body weight rows. Still it's kind of expensive for single function equipment.

u/0000GKP · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

The half rack at least gives you the option to lift weights later. I went with a full rack (Titan T-2) because I wanted to lift weights and I could get a multigrip pull-up bar instead of just a straight bar. I prefer the separate dip station. This style works for inverted rows also.

u/SSMFA20 · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

if you can't get to a gym or anywhere else..
It's a bit expensive, but I bought this to use since it can be taken apart and set up quickly for dips and rows.

Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ICHPIK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wERExbGX4FEKH

I've returned a few pull up bars and this one worked out the best for me (doesn't damage my doors).

and I hang it off of my iron gym, along with my rings. It actually works quite well, as long as you keep off the ends of the bars where it starts to bend a bit. It might not work very well for a shorter person (my GF had to use a chair to get up on it, she's 5"1').

u/iams3b · 2 pointsr/Fitness

Iron Gym (doorway pullup bar) pull up bar is pretty much the only major requirement. You can probably start the recommended routine after that.

I also purchased this dib bar to make doing dips easier, but it's not necessary

u/itsreaditpeople · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

Nihili has you covered, but I wanted to recommenced these dip bars to you, I’ve had them two years, they’re cheap, and they are perfect:

Also, give it time. It took my a few months to get over being tired and sore, but eventually my energy levels went up and I haven’t gotten sick once this year. Maybe that’s up to chance, maybe it’s up to having worked out consistently for the last year. But it does take time.

u/Maladjust-- · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

I use one of these at home: looks like it's rated for 350 pounds. Folds up when I'm not using it, or more accurately sits in a corner until I have company coming over and then I fold it up and put it away.

u/lentil_king · 2 pointsr/GripTraining

I did leg-assisted for the fat handles. Still worked pretty nicely.

For the rotating fat handles, I made them to spec but ended up just taking the PVC and putting it on my door-frame chin-up bar. Same effect, I figured.

Did something a bit different for the towel hangs. I draped a judo belt over a [dip stand] (http://www.amazon.ca/Black-Mountain-Products-Stand-Dip/dp/B00EPKRUGS), grabbed an end in each hand, and held myself up like that. We do something similar in Judo practice and it was very difficult, heh. It was kind of like doing rows with the belt, except stopping at the top of the motion. Let me know if you think I'll get the same effect from that.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

I edited to comment to be a little different,

But maybe something like this. Otherwise, there's always trees or others things. Pullups really aren't optional.

Search for power towers... they are $150 USD or so....
For example:

UK mileage may vary

u/Valutones · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

Agreed:

  • The connector piece between the two sides isn't designed for a lot of lateral force on the bars.
  • The "legs" also have a tiny bit of wobble too, now that I'm taking a look. Specifically, I'm talking about the part where the upper n-shaped bars connect to the feet. It might just need a little more tightening though.

It's not enough of an issue to affect my uses so far, but something sturdier would be nice, but not bad for $50. If I upgrade, it will be something like this.
u/Pintash · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

Have a look at this. I have something similar they were the most useful thing I've bought to help with BWF. You can use them for rows too.

Don't forget if you're unable to do 3x8 horizontal rows you don't even need to be doing dips yet anyway. The support practice is important though.

u/DioTheory · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Without a doubt, this is what I would ask for.

I had the money saved up for a decent one on Amazon not too long ago, bought it and everything, then received an email saying they couldn't ship it to where I live. They refunded me and everything, so that's fine, but the only store near me that sells this stuff only carries one style of cage, and it's ridiculously expensive. Plus, I won't be able to buy it until after my trip back to the mainland.

It's just frustrating, because this one item is standing in the way of me being able to do the lifts I want to do. My gym doesn't have a squat rack, unfortunately.

u/Shavencoconut · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008F48AN2/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 hopfully that works.

I got one befor xmas and do dips and rows off the bar and leg raises. Practice Lsit and push ups on the rings. The manufacturer also states lunges and chest flys can be done on the rings.

Its not the highest equipment as alot of reviews says its not suitable for dips with a dip belt.

u/txdm · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

I purchased these about two years ago and have been really happy with them:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JBM6I1I/

I had previously used a dip station that I made from PVC pipe that ended up costing nearly the same to build.

EDIT: I fixed the product link to the right one... looks like it's no longer available from the same seller, though.

u/toomanyplugs · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

I'm about your height 6'4" and I found these. They are tall enough to get full rom and also happen to be the cheapest ones on amazon at $53. Dunno about availability in your county tho. They're cheap Chinese ones but the do the job

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01BZJ62CE/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/nurdyguy · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

I got this one partially because it came with the rings. As noted by some in the reviews, it isn't very tall and doesn't work great for taller users. I'm only 5'6" so it works great for me :-) Doing ring push ups works well with it too.

u/1Operator · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I bought the "Ultimate Body Press" (http://amzn.com/B000ICHPIK) a few years ago & it has served my purposes good enough. It's got a simple design & it's easy to move around the house. I've done both body-weight dips & weighted dips with it. It might not be "gym quality" with durability that can withstand constant daily use, but it's held up fine with just me using it a couple times a week for the last few years. It feels a little wobbly (as would just about anything that's not heavy or bolted down to a concrete floor), but it stays securely in place when I'm doing vertical dips on it.

u/hobbitmagic · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

hmm, it's working for me but I tried it on mobile and got the error you mentioned. Maybe this will work:

u/steetyj · 1 pointr/homegym

Something you can mount from ceiling joists would give you better height and be stronger. Not sure if that's an option for you though. Otherwise, maybe one of those "power towers" that have pull-up bar and dip/leg raise thing.

I go to a gym, but you could get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Lebert-Fitness-07-71049-Equalizer-Bars/dp/B00LY9LFKK/ref=sr_1_6?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1463408017&sr=1-6

or make your own if you're so inclined. Alternatively, if you can set up rings, you can do lots of bodyweight stuff on those, and I've used a public park before that had a set of parallel bars. But you're right, it's pretty tough to do dips without some form of equipment.

Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar - $30

  • Pull ups.
  • Random other stuff(pushing, situps, dips, crunches, etc...)

This is a decent starter kit for about $163 bucks with free shipping. Allows you to do a lot of different exercises and a lot of different routines. You'll be able to get all around fit and healthy for sure with some dedication, good routines, and a good diet.

In terms of muscle mass gains, it won't exactly get you massive. No 40 inch biceps or anything crazy. However, you can add quite a bit of muscle mass and strength with this kit and a body weight routine.

Body weight training and kettle bell training are very effective and a lot of people have had success with them. It's geared towards more functional fitness rather than purely aesthetics though. Not really what everyone would want, but it's cheap, effective, and portable.

Like others have said, it's pretty much useless. I have two sets of rings in my basement (~$25 a pair), dip bars (https://smile.amazon.com/Sunny-Health-Fitness-SF-BH6507-Connector/dp/B00XMHINS4/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1524009120&sr=8-1&keywords=sunny+dip+bars) ~$43, and a couple mats which were around $15. I can do the whole recommended routine with this setup and much more for under $100 and it only takes up around 10x8 of room in my basement. You could get by for $75 - $85 by only buying one set of rings, I'm just lazy and hate adjusting them.

When it comes to working out, I'm a huge introvert. Being able to stay in my own house and workout is probably the only reason I've been so committed thus far.
Plus, I can get a pump whenever I have an extra minute. It's the best investment I've ever made, bar none.

I personally plan on putting a a power tower or maybe just a pull up tower in my garage and hang rings on them. or i might just build a tall frame to hang my rings on or hang them from a ceiling because ring towers run like 3,000 dollars.

u/Justdis · 1 pointr/homegym

I recently fractured my foot and can't drive to my gym to perform what meager lifts I can still perform, so I need to do what I can at home. The one thing I can not figure out is how to set up a bar for chin ups/pull ups etc. I live in a basement style apartment and can not easily leave, so having something down here would be ideal.

A generic pull up bar like this isn't compatible with any of my doors.

Next, I looked for 'chin up stations' like you see in many commercial gyms, like this. Unfortunately my ceiling is roughly 6' 2'' and I am 5' 11''. That unit is 6' 3'' and wouldn't even fit on its own, much less with my chin over the bar.

Next, I saw some advertisements for bars you... nail into the wall? Like this one from rogue. This seems pretty promising but I can barely hammer a nail without breaking something and I'm unsure if my walls could even support it.

At this point, I'm out of ideas. The only other thing I can think of is the kind you jam into a doorframe, like this but I've seen those spontaneously fail (my dad tore his shoulder when it dropped him mid pull up) and am pretty not enthusiastic about them.

I think a station might be my best bet, but I need to find one that has adjustable heights, a solid support base, and that will ship. Does anyone have any advice there?

u/screepatrol · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

for what it's worth, it's even easier to patch a hole in the wall than it is to make the hole in the wall, so I'd still recommend a pullup bar in your wall, and an old person's walker for p bars

I would not do this between two chairs and palms down, that's asking for long term injury on your wrist

can you do it ? sure ? just don't complain when your wrist gets permanently injure and you can't do dips in the future

u/grimgrau · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

Equipment name: Lebert Equalizer

Exercise or Problem requiring equipment: Dips and rows.

Pros: This piece of equipment comes in two pieces so you can change the width for doing your dips or rows. You can use just one piece of it to do rows (palms facing away) or you can place both sides next to one another to use a neutral (hammer) grip.

It stands up to weighted dips just fine, the heaviest I've ever done so far was 70lbs on the dip belt at 155lbs bodyweight.

The height of this equipment from the ground is perfect for me as a 5'6" tall person. I'm able to do rows even with my feet raised up on a platform about knee height. I'm also able to do dips without my dip belt that go just below parallel. If I'm using my dip belt (I had to adjust the chain length) I can get to parallel.

Cons: It could be a lot higher up from the ground (taller.) If you're taller than 5'6" you will not be able to get a full range of motion for your rows if you raise your feet up on a platform. You also will not be able to get a good depth on your dips.

The height of this thing is the only real con if you're a taller person than I am.

Qualities to look for when purchasing: You only need to take the total height of this piece of equipment into consideration if you're taller than 5'6", in which case you'll want to buy another dip station/row station. You could raise the Lebert Equalizer up on some type of platform such as cinder blocks to get over this, but there are probably other dip stations/row stations out there that will be a better fit.

Alternatives: This is an alternative that has adjustable height on Amazon.com. Otherwise, you can search online for dip and/or row stations.

You could also do dips with most power towers (in addition to being able to do your vertical pulls on the tower.)

Purpose/uses: Weighted/unweighted dips and inverted rows.

Places to acquire equipment/materials: Amazon.com or other online market places.

Cost: ~$100.00 USD on Amazon.com.

u/simtel20 · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

Depending on where in canada you are... do you have any friends in the US who could order from amazon.com and you could drive to pick up the equipment? I see for e.g. this at about $130 and that at $150. That on amazon.ca is CDN$585 which seems like one hell of a markup for crossing a border.

u/makoivis · 1 pointr/Fitness

For dips you can use the backs of two chairs, or get parallel bars or something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Body-Press-Dip-Stand/dp/B000ICHPIK

Whatever works. For my needs, the power tower takes up too much space and can be replaced with other options I already have. For your needs it might be perfect.

Rings are great for a lot of stuff so you probably want rings eventually regardless.

It is a weight rack to lift weights in, I found it on side of the road and decided to rehab it and make it look nice. This is kind of what it looks like...http://www.amazon.com/XMark-Fitness-Power-Pull-up-Station/dp/B004OVLSMA/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1367546206&sr=1-3&keywords=Power+Rack

I was doing some research into this, and Body Solid seems to have the no frills one that is best reviewed. As a beginner I'd love to be able to spring for FreeMotion assisted dip/chinup for $1,600 $4,400.

This one isn't super cheap...but I have it and it's really good. I used to weigh ~220 lbs and it would just barely move when I used it. I would definitely recommend it IF you can spare the cash. If not, just read reviews of them online so you know what to look for on craigslist.

No problem. In the second one I linked someone asked that question and someone responded that he was 173 lbs and had no problems without screws. If anything, amazon has a really easy return policy so you can give it a try and just send it back if it doesn’t work.

If you have the space another option is a power tower. I got this one because I wanted a pull up bar but didn’t want the doorway cluttered and also didn’t want to get into screwing one into the wall or ceiling. You can also do dips and ab exercises but it does take it space.

Those twist-retractable pull-up bars won't work either? My brother-in-law has an Iron Gym, but I use a generic twist-adjustable pull-up bar in my doorframe. A more expensive alternative would be to buy one of those pull-up stations.

My answers:

  • Do meals, instead of portions. I do, and it works out pretty well.

  • My "recovery" drink is Horizon 1% chocolate milk. About 4 ounces. It works for me just fine. Combine it with drinking lots of water, and you should be good to go.

  • I have added, over the years, to my set of dumbbells. I have everything from 5s to 50s. They work for me. If money is a concern, add to them slowly, because IMO you won't need anything higher than 30lbs going through the first month or so, when you can add more weights as desired/money comes available.

  • I use a plyo mat for yoga. It's thicker, a lot less slip, and works great for me. I picked up the standard blue one at a Dicks Sporting Goods for about $20. I also purchased a yoga block, for around the same price and yeah, it really does help out, especially if you're not flexible enough to go all the way to the floor on some of the yoga stuff (or you're really flexible, it'll help you get a better stretch).

  • I purchased this chinup bar and it works pretty well. The wide-grip pullups are a bit of a pain, especially if you're a wider person, but other than that, no complaints. Took a bit of time to put together, about an hour, but it's solid and holds my weight (somewhere around 200lbs, I'd guess) easily. Plus it has grips for dibs and a comfy back support for knee raises, etc.

edit: One thing you DO NOT need, unless you plan on traveling where there is no gym in the hotel or something, is the bands. Next to useless, IMO.

It was literally the first hit on amazon for 'dip bars'

Are you against working out or just working out at the gym? If it's the latter check out bodyweightfitness sub. A lot of good stuff there to work out at home. I second the recommendation for a pull up bar, and would also recommend something to allow for dips and rows like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0093T6R4C/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_200_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=41OF1B-tERL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C100_&refRID=18DVED7G0HQYSVQD57WJ

Or you can buy an extension for a pull up bar like this (the one I have):

I have this one which is the same height and I am able to use it with straight legs at 6'5.

If I was in your place I'd have something like this made. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000XKKWPU/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/276-7574928-2859601

You may want to consider buying this

u/AyThrowaway0111 · 0 pointsr/Instagramreality

yes I can lol. Literally just did it on Saturday before we went to the pool. Thats the reason I knew off hand about how long it took me.

Non weighted pull ups and dips are super easy when you lift a lot. 30 push ups are also super easy.

I am not even in insane shape either. I would say just good shape.

I would say if that seems like a crazy workout to you in 15 mins you should buy this and use it.

I put that in my spare living room and its amazing for just hitting some quick exercise when you do not have time to go to the gym.
