It is a good idea to compromise and do both.

Day 1: Upper body

Day 2: Lower Body

Day 3: Relax/Stretch/Light Cardio

Day 4: Upper Body

Day 5: Lower Body

It is easy to burn out if you only focus on one, like I would get extremely bored of doing just cardio. Honestly, for cardio I highly recommend sports because its a great way to socialize while getting in shape. Alternatively, pick up swimming since it also works really great without putting strain on your joints.

If your wrists are hurting from pushups, buy a pushup bar. Something similar to this (though probably not as expensive). Or if you have a place to hang some rings, get yourself some gymnastic rings since they are probably going to be your best investment if you are truly interested in doing bwf.

If your knees are hurting from squats, I HIGHLY recommend that you get it checked to make sure you are okay and get someone to check your form is correct. Since you said you are doing jump squats, I would recommend staying away from those or atleast finding a softer surface (sand if possible since it is so much harder yet it does not tax your knees a lot). Again I recommend not doing squats until your knees stop hurting or consult w/ a physician first (basing this off needing a shoulder surgery in the past from pushing though the pain and I may need one for my knee in the future).

Make a good routine that focuses on every party of your body (i didn't read anything about back workouts in your post) .

Lastly, experiment a little bit. If planks are too difficult, find other workouts that might be easier while still being challenging. Try to do some very simple workouts that help for progression towards something you want to do in the future.

This is a relatively common issue, people with carpal tunnel syndrome often have trouble bending their wrist to ninety degrees. They make foam wedges to support your hand at a milder angle, you can also use a rolled up towel or yoga block. Pushup bars are another alternative if your range of motion is too restricted for a wedge. I linked to the first ones I found, but lightweight plastic might be better than metal for yoga.

It will take a little time to get used to having these things within arm's reach, but with practice you will learn to anticipate when you might need it and it will become easy and fluid.

Using a "type 1" pull-up bar or some specialized push-up handles for push-ups will take a small amount of weight off but they also alleviate a lot of stress on your wrists, which is their main purpose, and they allow you to dip a bit lower than where your hands are supported increasing the range of motion and effectiveness of your push-ups. Plant your feet on a flat piece of 2x6 and you're right back to a standard weighted push-up.

Pro Tip: Elevate your feet with a chair or stool to increase weight on your push-ups...

Get a pair of push-up bars. I don't have half the struggles you might have with your wrists, but years and years of computer work have weakened the hell out of my wrists and I THINK I have carpal tunnel syndrome, so these have been helping a lot with pressure on my wrist.

Chin Up Assist $35. This is a handy tool but a chair will suffice.


The recovery drink, while not a total waste of money, can be replaced with much cheaper supplements. I do stuff like protein powder and a frozen banana in a blender. Equivalent cost $40.


The real issue with ultimate package is the bands. You're going to want real weights. I went to a second hand sports equipment store and got a set of free weights at $.50 a pound. A nice full set will be in the $150 range.


Total: Around $400.


So for around $30 more, you can buy a much better set up than what's offered in the ultimate package. If you stick with it, you're going to replace the bands anyway.

You could look into getting some push up bars. It will allow you to keep your wrists straight while doing push ups. That should alleviate the wrist pain. They will also allow a greater range of motion. They don't look like they'd be terribly difficult to pack and travel with.

I think the best advice to be given to high school people is just to CHILL. When I went there, there was a lot of social pressure to fit in and get to know whatever. But I think the best thing I could have done was not care. And I say not care meaning like okay, so you have more friends... how does that then make me inferior? Yea, you can meet girls there, but you can also meet girls after high school. If you know you are cool, then you don't really have to worry about these other things.

I didn't have many friends in high school. My friend pool actually vanished and I had to move into a new group. I still keep in touch with some of these guys to this day. It was cool to have a group, but life moves on and changed a whole bunch after high school.

I don't think you should see games as an enemy or an obstacle that prevents you from having a social life, but just think of it as something you do. What makes you social is really who you are and that is a sum of everything you do and believe in. The other half is who you are interacting with. They might not be social... then it's not really you then.

I guess I feel like the odd one here because I still do play games, but I'm subscribed to this forum. I play games and 99% of the people I run into do not know what I play or don't play games. That's fine. It's an activity that I enjoy that makes me competitive or enjoy content. I don't see it that much different than say being stuck on a good TV series like Breaking Bad. I don't think it's really playing games that is bad, but an addiction to it that is the case. If you are pushing away friends, family and opportunities to game, then it should be a concern.

So I would make sure you have your basics down. Get your grades up, eat well and keep it cool with parents and such. I would go ahead and buy these:

These are one of the best purchases I have ever made. Just buy them and use them time to time. I do pull ups and push ups here and there and I look pretty decent. I'm not a walking bulge of muscle, but it builds some and I don't look lanky. BUY THEM. They last a long time and are so much cheaper than a gym membership. You also want to throw in some running and squats as well.

It's pretty terrifying at lunch time when you go out to recess and there is nobody you meet with. Then you start freaking out... man I don't have friends... man I'm a loser, etc. I would try to find groups that you see people that share your interests with or find school clubs you can be around and hop into. One of the better things I found out was that in reality, EVERYONE is terrified at this age. When you realize that, you realize everything you fear is constructed and that it's really up to you to care or not. I still think having friends is better because it's more fun. Just calm down and be smart. Before you know it, you'll be the coolest guy you know.

Maybe your left wrist is too weak to do them properly? You aren't really supposed to be resting on your wrists during push-ups, you are supposed to be on your hands/fingers. That's the issue I have with one armed push ups at least.

If that's the case you can either do them on your fists, put one of these on the ground and do them using that, or get something like these until your wrists are strong enough. BWSG989 posted a good link to look at, wrist push-ups should help a lot.

Get something like these for your planks, pushups, and L-sits to take some pressure off of the ulnar nerve! I did this whenever I had ulnar nerve issues.

Also, doing daily wrist mobility exercises will help strengthen your wrists as well and can help condition you over time. I've been able to do all the original exercises that used to put pressure on my ulnar nerve much more easily now, and most of it was likely due to the wrist mobility exercises.

I've fought with this problem over and over. Here's your options.

  • Buy a "power tower"
  • Do L-Chinups or L-Pullups - you mentioned elsewhere that your core isn't strong enough for this - well MAKE it strong enough
  • Get a ceiling mounted pullup bar
  • Buy gymnastic rings or a suspension training, and attach them to the ceiling
  • Go to a local park
  • Hang gymnastic rings from a tree

Hey I have the same problem. My right wrist hurts like hell when I put too much weight on it, lift too much, and do pushups. I fucked up my wrist by lifting too much weight when doing bicep curls, and aggravated it by boxing and not letting it heal. SOOO the solution to this is to lay two dumbells on the floor, that are hexagon not round, and grip onto them when doing pushups so your wrist is upright rather than flat against the ground. This will help prevent you from putting your weight on your wrists and they won't hurt anymore. You can also get yourself some of these

I've got a pullup bar that hangs from the doorframe, haven't experiecned this myself yet. Been doing the RR/pullups, dips, rows, invert hangs ect. for almost a year now. Haven't experienced any doorframe cracking from that, just when I try doing fingertip grips/pullups on another frame. I've read a bunch of comments from people on here that are using a bar that screws into the frame. So that's one option, but based off of your post it sounds like you don't want to do that.

If you're having an issue with the hanging bar, and don't want to put screws in your walls, I'd recommend investing (around $80-110 USD) in a power-tower which is basically a small station that you can do dips and pullups on.

Or really anything that height will do--the counting feature is kind of rubbish. I haven't bothered to replace the battery in mine. I get shoulder numbness when doing regular pushups, but not with the Perfect Pushup using the counter.

Of course YMMV. I'd recommend doing what feels best to you.

Edit: The reason I think using the counter or another similar item is to keep you from going too low, as donketh420 was suggesting.

Use push-up stands or dumbbells, they will allow you to straighten your wrists compared to a hard bend in the wrist when just doing them on the ground. There are a lot of ways to build hand and finger strength and dexterity, But maybe try something like finger tutting for something different that you could have done fun with.

I broke my hand (boxer break) and have a scaphoid fracture that never healed so have similar issues. I bought the perfect pushup which works decently. It doesn't take that many knuckle pushups before your hands hurt quite a bit.

But really, I have no idea what that thing is all about. I looked at the owners manual and it seems to have a lot of different functions, but nothing that's really that relevant to bodyweight workouts. The lat pulldown feature is relevant if you can't get a pullup, but I think everything else, you can do without equipment. Consider just getting something like this. Doesnt require installation. Maybe something like this as well.

It might not be an issue of strength. It could be anything from subpar "wrist form" on pushups to it simply not being a position your body is well-suited for. I'm fairly decent at pushups, and usually my wrists are fine, but other times I notice pain and it's not entirely clear to me why.

Anyway, something like push up bars may help. I've never noticed any pain with them, even with significant weight, and you get the added bonus of being able to go deeper. Or you can improvise with dumbbells etc. if you don't want to buy any.

I've posted them below, I've had them for about three years and they are in as good condition now as they were brand new. It comes with a little guide on how to use for beginners to expert. I would deffo advise grabbing them as they are better on your wrists and the twisting motion means you get a tighter burn on the chest but it also really brings your arms into it

If you're going to buy a dip station/set of parallel bars, the most important thing is to ensure that they're tall (high) enough to accommodate your height. This is to ensure that, for dips or using them for rows, you'll have enough range of motion (ROM). If you'll have to bend your legs at the knee to get things done, that's fine, but definitely be sure it's tall enough for you. Also be sure to look at how much weight it can safely support.

I use a Lebert Equalizer, which is a dip station/parallel bar set that comes in two pieces. I'm 5'6" tall, so the bars are just tall enough for me get a good enough ROM for my dips with my knees bent.

I think that this piece of equipment is great for me, as I can do my weighted dips with it and I can also use it for rows. The fact that it comes in two pieces is also pretty handy, and it's portable if I want to take it outside on a nice day. I could also use them as a set of parallel bars if I want to do any exercises that require parallel bars in the future.

These are really good. Coach Sommer, author of the book which I also read and love, really recommends doing a lot of l-sit work. If you can get to the point where you can hold an l-sit for even a couple seconds, those pushup bars are your best friend. Seriously, wake up and hold an l-sit on those suckers for a few reps, and your abs will be tough as nails quite quickly.

As far as rings go, don't go cheap. If you want to make your own, make sure you find a guide that will build rings to support your weight. I bought:

They are pretty nice and work well with chalk.

Have you tried using Push-Up Bars at all? I was having similar problems with my wrists during push-ups and these helped quite a bit. Took a lot of the strain off, basically you can do "knuckle" push-ups without the knuckle part.

or do them on your fists. Had the same problem. I did it on fists for awhile but that kinda hurts and probably will fuck up your knuckles over time. The bars are better and allow you to get deeper and I think forces better form. Easier on your wrists too. You can use them for other exercises too.

As I mentioned you're not losing just fat, you're also losing muscle. Imagine losing the muscle just as you're losing fat. So lets say someone has a pouch on their belly and they lose 30 pounds, it's still going to be there if they lose 15 pounds of muscle from dieting. I look at your problem as a case of the skinny fats.

Cardio is an excellent tool to lose weight, but cardio without resistance won't differ between your biceps or your belly when it comes to fuel. Base of your post, it would suggest that you would like to body sculpt.

But here's the thing, much like doing crunches all day won't make your stomach smaller the same applies to any part of your body. Exercises like deadlifts and barbell squats work more muscles than any other exercises. As you build and maintain muscle, your loses from calorie restriction will be mostly from fat. I know a lot of females worry about being "bulky" but the matter is you won't unless you eat like 3,000+ calories a day which applies to the term "bulking".

Since you don't have access to weights I guess that's the next best thing. But start slow, I only suggest it to people who have reach their weight goal because it can be really hard on the joints. I love calisthenics which is the term used for bodyweight fitness. I swear you will feel great progressing through it. You'll have the chance to develop pretty awesome skills such has handstands, flagpoles, dragon flags, etc. It's a pretty cool branch of fitness. The beginner routine in BWF is pretty solid in getting you a stronger core and doing handstands. I have this, which helps a lot

But if I were you I would lean towards something with a little more resistance. So it would be much easier to get into calisthenics once you reach your weight.

I sprained my right wrist pretty badly about 3 years ago and I still have weakness in it. It's really bad when I do pushups, burpees and tricep dips. I do my pushups on this sort of thing to keep my wrists straight and that helps A LOT.

I didn't look after myself very well back then and I'm paying the price now. I can do maybe 2x15 burpees without pain but I definitely pay for it later on. I often roll the area out with a small ball (like a squash ball but harder) on a regular basis, which also helps.

I can't really give you any advice other than let it heal as much as possible now so you don't keep repeating it down the line. Good luck!

I do an upper/lower split 4 days a week, with a whole body day in between. I've been running it a few weeks, and did something similar before that.

It takes me about 45 minutes to an hour, for about 30 sets a day.

I just did 100 sit ups and push ups, too!

I did that for over a year and still try to do it every day but I've gotten a little lazy and do it more like every other day.

In general rotating push-up grips because they are best on the wrists, ellbows and shoulder joints and provide also better core activation. It's not necessary to pay more than ca 30€ for rotating push-up grips.

I guess we are talking about push ups here? Hand positions and push ups can be changed a lot to work all sorts of muscles. I'm not sure exactly the one you are talking about here but different positions while doing push ups will work all sorts of groups.

It's not an exact answer but hopefully this product will clear up what I'm trying to say. Thinking about getting one myself.
