EDIT2: rooting is not required, my phone is not rooted it's stock Android.

EDIT3: this setup is not limited to smartphones. It works on laptops, tablets, or Android TV boxes (e.g. Nexus Player, Mi Box, OUYA, Nvidia Shield, Amazon Fire TV, etc.)

This one looks like a better one compared to the one in the OP anyways. It holds onto both prongs of the headrest and is adjustable.

I think there is really only one option here: Install a dedicated tablet for the bathroom configured for that one access point.

u/wpnz · 16 pointsr/homelab

Awesome Idea, now I just need a wall mount.

Edit: Found one on Amazon

u/godelbrot · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It's a bit on the pricey side at $39.99 USD

but the fact that it's sturdy, allows charging, and takes up so little space that it should fit in pretty much every Switch case to me makes it a winner.

Runner up was the Arkon Folding Tablet Stand much cheaper, but not quite as sturdy, significantly larger (won't fit in most Switch Cases), and would likely require a right-angled USB C cable to charge while in use.

edit

If the price of the Compass V2 throws you off, the original Compass V1 goes for like 15 bucks on Amazon and it's actually slimmer then the V2 but apparently less sturdy.

edit 2

also there is a cheapo version of it for 10 bucks but I can't attest to its quality. Thanks u/doublespoiler and u/soma04 for the tip.

I use this one. It’s great, and looks pretty sleek

Yes! Our entire cost for the photo booth was around $200 -

$80 for a canon selphy photo printer (ebay)

$50 for the simple booth app

$10 for an iPad tripod

$10 for a photo cutter

$20 for extra printer paper (we had about 80 guests and still have some left over)

$25 for photo booth ['accessories']
(https://www.amazon.com/Graduation-Birthdays-Accessories-Christmas-GreenLF/dp/B074DZT2JM/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519329542&sr=1-8&keywords=photo+booth+props)

We already had the box lights but you can find a set of two for around ~$50.

You can do it cheaper if you don't want to print photos... I really wanted to have doubles of every strip for our guestbook. We had guests tape their 'extra' strip into a paper scrapbook and write little notes. It's one of my favorite mementos.

You can also set up the app to email/text photos guests, in addition to sending copies to a dropbox or a tumblr and then you could share the link with guests.

It was really simple and so much cheaper than any professional service I researched.

I mostly use the Apple Pencil with Notability or LiquidText. I use Goodnotes a little. Some of my professors use Google Drive, so I need to use those apps from time to time. I also like Outlook for email, iBooks and Kindle Reader for different texts. Duet Display turns my iPad into a secondary screen for my MacBook Pro. I use Scanner Pro to turn all my syllabi and other handouts into PDFs. iStudiez Pro helps keep my schedule in order, and Quizlet helps me study. I use Affinity Photo for processing my Nikon RAW files ( I let my Adobe CC subscription lapse, I just don't find myself using my dSLR that much lately.) I also use a MIDI keyboard with Garage Band and Pro Metronome for piano practice when I don't have access to a real piano/piano lab/practice room.

I keep games and other entertainment apps off the iPad since I'm trying to study and don't want to make it any easier for me to goof off.

Case, Screen Protector, Apple Pencil sleeve, tether to keep my adapter on my cable, stand, keyboard, and holder for using my iPad as a second screen for my MacBook Pro. I also use Anker cables, charger port, and portable charger.

You don't need to swipe apps away from the recent list when you're done with them. The system saves their state to RAM, but it frees it if it is needed for another app. I never bother clearing my recent apps, and I don't notice any slowdowns.

I personally opted to just use my N10 without a case because I wasn't willing to lose that awesome back, and the slim form factor. I did get a [sleeve] ( http://www.amazon.com/V7-Protective-Tablets-10-1-Inch-TD23BLK-GY-2N/dp/B007R3Z5E4/ref=pd_cp_pc_1) for transport and a [foldable tablet stand] ( http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Portable-Fold-Up-Playbook-IPM-TAB1/dp/B000CKVOOY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1371221361&sr=1-1&keywords=tablet+stand).

I have been looking into getting some stands for my keebs for a while now. This is a tablet stand from Amazon Basic. Very happy with them. They are very solid and offer much flexibility in positioning and they hold the position they are fixed to. They also have a soft, foam-link padding where the stand meets the keyboard frame.

Not exactly what you have pictured, but I use one of these: Amazon Basics Tablet Stand

I tutor virtually using FaceTime and Skype, and I need very precise angles based on what I'm presenting. It can adjust angles as close as a few degrees at a time. It is very compact, portable, and inexpensive. It can hold an iPad at a vertical angle if you use a Smart Cover to counterbalance.

u/gbpp89 · 4 pointsr/masturbation

Like you, I also have a gigantic porn collection (over 40 TB). Having your own curated collection is best imo because you can have all your fave vids on hand, and don't waste time searching for something to watch. Plus the quality is better.

In 99% of my jerkoffs, I use my collection, I lay on my back in my bed, and I use my 12 inch iPad Pro. I used to use my phone to watch porn, but I decided to treat myself and invest in my jerking sessions by upgrading to the iPad Pro and buying a floor stand, and it was the best decision I ever made. Jerking off has never been easier and more comfortable. Using sex toys is much better too since my hands are completely free and the screen is right above my head.

I use an app called nPlayer to view my collection. I can shuffle, create playlists, repeat a clip, password protect it, and much more. That's pretty much my ritual. I beat off at least twice a day, morning and night. On days where I'm not working and have free time I can go for hours and have several sessions. I lie on my bed, plug my iPad in the charger, adjust the stand right above my head, and just go to town.

u/sircharlieg · 4 pointsr/Surface

For those looking for a similar (more versatile but less pretty) stand, I've been eyeing the iKross 2-in-1 Kitchen Wall / Counter Top Desktop Mount Stand. Other pros: a few bucks less than the iPad stand, and ships to US.

I'll be getting one soon, and I'll post about it when I do.

u/mrdesignguy · 4 pointsr/ipad

Would love to see what others have found. I've looked a lot and this is the best I've got so far: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AGYIAZ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Been using it for a few weeks, mainly to watch shows in bed. It's... not ideal.

The whole thing tends to want to lean over. And I don't think it would work with a case (unless it was a very thin case).

u/PooleyX · 4 pointsr/macsetups

I have a very similar setup and the arm looks identical to mine. It's the UGreen Tablet Holder - this is the UK Amazon link

It works well and manages to hold my iPad Pro as long as I take it out of the case (as has been done by OP). With the case on, it just can't handle the weight and sags quickly.

u/Doktor_Rob · 3 pointsr/Nexus10

I have the Moko Slim-Fit Multi-angle Folio Cover Case and it has a cut out area so you can attach the pogo connector with the case closed. If you really want to have it connected while in a standing position, you might consider getting a tablet stand like this one that leaves room for the connector. You might have to leave it hanging over the edge of your shelf or desk, but it would work.

But, no, I do not believe there are any 90° pogo cables and even if there were, I doubt they'd be flush enough to fit in your case.

u/BonzoDogDooDahBand · 3 pointsr/kindle

Just ordered the new ayotu case as it conforms to the recessed back of the Oasis 2, and looks to have stronger magnets than the official Amazon case (albeit sans origami stand): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079DPPHXY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_QvmTAbAFVFERZ

However, it looks like Amazon is coming out with revamped cases in response to the controversy over the original ones a few months ago: http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2018/03/19/amazon-bringing-back-kindle-oasis-covers-soon/

I’ll review the new ayotu case later on, but in all honesty I’ll probably return it if the amazon case comes out soon. All I want in case is something that goes on/comes off very easily and has a stand, I’m only going to use a case for screen protection while traveling around and a stand for when I’m at a desk. As it is, I just use a generic amazon stand (https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-IPM-TAB1-AMZ-Adjustable-Tablet-Stand/dp/B006ZT4VA0) but I’d rather have an all-in-one solution.

u/Aperture_Kubi · 3 pointsr/sysadmin

Yeah it has grown on me, though at work I sit it in this so I can keep it at a more vertical angle. Plus it can drive an additional two external monitors, without any issues so far.

u/atlas__shrugged · 3 pointsr/childfree

Thanks /u/SuperBabyHix, now this is in my Amazon search history.

u/FrankiePoops · 3 pointsr/Darts

Unfortunately, you can't. You can email the guy and see if he'll do one for you but they're around $400 and he only makes them in limited runs.

I use a Google Nexus 7 tablet ($150), one of these wall mounts ($15), and the Dartbot app. The app pretty much perfectly replicates the dartmaster III and even has the options for playing against a virtual opponent like the dartmaster III does. The developer is on this subreddit and that's how I found out about it.

u/TheL0nePonderer · 3 pointsr/Showerthoughts

Obligatory 'family is the best thing' blah blah blah.

My sister got me this awesome tablet holder that attaches to the lip of a table and the head can maneuver any way, I can push it out of the way, I can maneuver it a foot from my face while in bed and watch Netflix/whatevs. It's awesome, and adding a whole new level of lazy to my life. No more pad holding.

If you order one, check the tablet size (My Surface RT fits, my Surface Pro 3 doesn't)

u/Ubelsteiner · 3 pointsr/tablets

Yeah I definitely love my S2 9.7 (2015). It's been my workhorse device for the past year or so.

I use it with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to do things for work via RDP/Teamviewer (http://imgur.com/a/A3YOk). I paired up a PS3 controller with it to play Nintendo emulators (http://imgur.com/0TfQJzG) I have a mount for it in the car (https://amzn.com/B00LZ6KQDO) and use it for navigation (awesome!) and media playback, which are easy to do at the same time with Samsung's split-screen feature. I have a clamping arm mount (https://amzn.com/B0129X70ZS) for it attached to my night stand, so I can watch stuff in bed.

I highly recommend it, the only weak spot is the bottom mounted speakers of course aren't as good as a tab with front-facing, but they're enough to get the job done IME. If you're trying to watch something in a noisy environment, you'll want some headphones or external speakers. I have a bluetooth headset as well as a small bt speaker that I use.

u/artaru · 3 pointsr/ipad

I was at the Apple Store today to try out the Logi Slim Combo for both sizes. The keyboard feels fantastic but the kickstand is nowhere near sturdy enough to draw/lean on. It's a complete no go for me.

Build quality is as others said not the greatest but not really a deal breaker for me.

But if only use the kickstand for mostly reading / typing that's fine. But i write and annotate pdfs a lot so this is important to me.

I use this stand with a simple plastic back cover, and an external Bluetooth keyboard. That has worked really well for me.

Ps I also looked at the Draft Table but that's pricier, 0.3pound heavier, and more importantly has only three angles.

u/aalambis · 3 pointsr/Surface

It's this guy right here! I just really like that it's simple and compact while still feeling sturdy. I sometimes use it for another tablet if I'm doing handwritten notes and use the tablet to look through my textbooks.

I have the same iPad and love it. Here are keyboard and stand recommendations:

Universal Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard,Anker Ultra Compact Slim Profile Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard with Rechargeable Battery, Universal Compatibility with iPad and Computer - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PIMIUPW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_HOvYzbVZR8GS0

apple wireless and this bad boy: Incase Keyboard Case

i love mine, i use it all the time for taking notes. Plus, once the ipad is resting on the keyboard stand, it feels like im using a laptop.

u/justfred · 2 pointsr/chromeos

I just use the Apple compact keyboard. The annoying thing about it is how it turns itself on and off; I'd find one with a physical switch.

The other nice accessory is the Origami stand, which works fine with a phone or tablet.

http://www.amazon.com/Incase-Origami-Workstation-iPad-Black/dp/B004X355Y6

u/linuxweenie · 2 pointsr/ipad

If you don't mind two pieces of equipment, try an incase oragami case (here) and an Apple bluetooth keyboard (here). Less than $100 and works like a champ, but way more than 23 dollars.

u/nomosecrets · 2 pointsr/ipad

I love the cases on my iPads. I love how minimal it is yet protective. (Although not super protective) I have this stand but I’d prefer this stand but I haven’t been able to talk myself into a $30 tablet stand.

u/USureAboutDat · 2 pointsr/MTB

Also avoid putting anything other than plain water in it. No electrolytes or Gatorade etc. They will promote mold growth.

I have the same bag and love it. I tend to only fill the bladder halfway, otherwise I find it gets too heavy with a tube, pump, tool, snack, etc

My cleaning ritual: I remove the nozzle (mouthpiece) from the hose and run fresh water through the hose (via the bladder) to rinse it. Then I stick a bent coat hanger inside the bladder to prop it open for ventilation. Store it upside down with the hose dangling off the table/shelf for drainage. That will allow it to completely dry out.

A nifty (and more portable) alternative to a coat hanger is propping the bag open with one of those plastic tablet stands - it works well and is great if travelling.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006ZT4VA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gklvDbEPHFXF3

I have never used any chemicals other than a drop of Dawn dish soap once a month.

I've had my Dakine bag for 8 months now with zero slime or mold issues. Knock on wood.

u/pkmnkiller41 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Thank you. Funny you mention it, the 'controller stand' is actually a regular tablet stand that I found out was perfect for propping up my controller as well.

u/footballhead667 · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I have the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact^TM

Despite the long name, it's nice because it's waterproof - I don't have to worry to much when I'm in the kitchen. It's also got double tap to wake, so I can just wake it up with a few taps of my knuckle when things get messy.

I use one of these stands from Amazon which fit my ~8" tablet and my wife's iPad equally well.

u/sparksdls · 2 pointsr/ipad

I have a bunch of different stands for my 10.5 and 12.9 Pro's. Unlike the 12.9, the 10.5 can sit nicely in a lightweight stand that isn't too bad for carrying around (portable). The inexpensive AmazonBasics stand works fine with my 10.5 with a case on it and in use with a Bluetooth keyboard -

u/insanebrood · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

WHY??? i dont get why someone would want this. I usually use the standard dock with my TV or i play it as portable in my hands.

if i ever wanted to use another kickstand than the built in there is always something like this for 5$

The three angles provided by Apple's Smart Cover have always proven ample for me when using the iPad in landscape. You might also check out those foldable portable stands along the lines of this

(although that particular stand may not work w the Pro)

u/trimbach · 2 pointsr/ipad

Not all stands are expensive. There are some on amazon for $8.

u/TemptedTemplar · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Look for generic tablet stands. Switch branded playstands arent going to support something like the Homespot or Genki adapters as they arent licensed accessories.

I use this stand (from Amazon): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DYTM9K8/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_tai_B8ZKyb

My normal (daily) use is sitting in a chair with this, browsing on the web and such. I've used it in the kitchen to view recipes, I've used it next to my home office desk to make my iPad a second monitor (I swing the arm/iPad over the desktop) and I've used it to look at the iPad while standing up.

It is remarkably versatile. Yes, it's got a heavy base, but the wheels roll smoothly and I've not had any difficulty moving it around. I had the same brand stand without the wheels and I liked that one, too - but this one has a longer arm reach and can be adjusted taller. I use it with an iPad Pro (the big one) and I've never worried about the iPad falling out of the bungee cord holder straps. I don't have an iPad cover, so it's not too bulky. I am typing this on the iPad [screen] now and there is barely an movement/ wiggle from that. It is very stable.

My iPad "lives" in this stand and, for me, this is one of the best purchases I've made for my iPad. As always, YMMV.

I just purchased this headrest mount for my 24 hour drive to Florida. It works perfectly for both the switch and tablets alike!

u/Doritalos · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Actually no, the grip has a hollow design. Its OK, but for the switch I had to get a small piece of velcro, it would fall off if I hit a big bump. I have no problems with it falling on the velcro, although I took a big piece and it messed with the back. Start small first. So for my student training, Flight Gear HP Bi-Fold Kneeboard has been awesome, I haven't even used the pockets once though. I also bought the RAM Mount X-Grip Suction Cup Mount to mount on the side window, which is great for my instrument training. Make sure you can land well with a partially blocked lindbergh reference if you use the side window, or find a position that works. Minimal head movement is obviously the key, but I don't like the idea of a yoke mount. May work fine for you though.

Lastly I like having the potential to use this for having both an ipad on my left leg and an actual piece of paper to write on using the clipboard. With amazon's return policy on everything but the bi-fold kneeboard, I tried out these options without worry and only returned one that is not mentioned here.

u/laf67 · 2 pointsr/videography

People are really not being helpful here, if you don't have the answer just don't comment because this is pretty clearly not an impossible feat.

So I'd grab one of these, these or maybe these, and then I'm almost positive that a Ronin-M could hold it in place. iPads are only 1.5 pounds, the Ronin-M can hold up to 8 pounds. They have a height of 9.6 inches and a width of 7.6. Here is a picture of my Ronin-M with a tape-measure balanced on it, it has infinite clearance in every direction if you mounted the iPad in front of it, and just enough clearance in the middle below the top handle if for some reason you had to mount it slightly towards the back of the gimble. All you'd have to do is screw the tripod mount onto the standard plate, mount the iPad onto it and auto-balance using the phone app.

You can rent a Ronin-M from any rental house for about 100-150 bucks. Good luck with your commercial!

Another thing he will need is desk lamps and (if he is working with Lego) a Lego baseplate or two. It might be worth it to let him continue using the iPad but purchasing something like this to connect it to a tripod of some sort. I'm assuming he is using an app on the iPad and this would allow him to keep using what he is comfortable with just with better results.

TLDR the kits are cool but using the iPad may be the better option as he is already used to it. I would focus on lights, tripods, and maybe a lego baseplate.

Just a cheapo tablet stand from Amazon. This one, I think: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DBV1OKY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't actually recommend it for an SB, but it's fine for a tablet (or the SB in tablet mode). It's not heavy or stable enough to support the computer in laptop mode. The SB's balanced towards the back, so it just tips over.

Here's my before/after desk setup, and I'm quite proud of it: https://imgur.com/a/GQLi4B3

You'd be surprised at how much clutter you could alleviate with a few inexpensive items from Amazon. These links are direct and have no referral codes in their URLs:

The pictured tablet stand is actually holding my company-issued 2-in-1 laptop. I bought it because I noticed no one else here actually uses their laptop when they're at their desk. Now I've got an extra screen, and a touchscreen at that.

EDIT: It's not actually a before and after photo. It's a comparison shot of my coworker's desk and my own, but it could've just as easily been my desk (besides the different monitors) if I hadn't bought this stuff in advance of our move to a new space.

Here’s my loadout:

First, I like being able to play in tabletop mode as I like having the joycons removed and separated while I play on the go, I carry the straps (though I removed the strap part so it’s just a way to add extra width to the joycons) and this tablet stand because I do like the normal one.

Next up, I use a portable USB-C charger with a PD port on it. I used to use a third party Switch charger since I’m not using it to dock, but I like having the option to charge my phone as well.

Finally, I use a case to carry everything in. The normal slim ones definitely aren’t enough, so I use one like this that fits everything so I can have everything on the go in a compact space.

TLDR: I keep a tablet stand, joycon straps, and a portable charger in a large case for when I’m on the go with my Switch. None of these are must haves, but I enjoy them all.

P.S.
One ESSENTIAL accessory is a screen protector. I got a small scratch on my bezel from my dock and it still bugs me I didn’t get a screen protector immediately. It baffles me that there’d be a design flaw like that, but it happens.

Finally, a lot of people like the Satisfye grips. While I’ve never found them necessary, a lot of people have. It would also be worth getting the bundle with the carrying case since it wouldn’t fit in a normal one.

Hope this helps or gives you some ideas of what you might want.

I find it very useful. I've read comics on it, played games on it and more recently I got this stand for it and put it next to my computer to use as a mini Netflix TV. The speaker isn't the greatest but there is an app that allows you to make it louder. Of course you can also do some casual browsing and pretty much anything else you can do with a tablet. I like the size, it's very easy to type with your thumbs in profile mode. Of course at this point there are some other options so it's up to you.

u/drunken__lemur · 1 pointr/gtablet

I use this as a stand and I love it. For a case, I just picked up a cheap, neoprene 10.2" netbook sleeve from Walmart.

But if you're in the market for a case with the stand kinda like the Ipad Smart Cover thing, then check out electroniccrap.com. The guy that runs it is active in those forums that I sent you earlier so he has a great selection of GTab accessories. I hear the Clip cases are great, but they're not my cup of tea.

The Origami case is the keyboard case. It folds out to include a stand for the iPad.

Incase Origmai

I had the Origami, but I gave that to my brother. I currently use the Logitech Ultrathin (I actually have the one for iPad v4 the previous model to the air with the lightning port) I love it.

Update: There's a folio version of the Ultrathin that will protect the back.

u/jeffdrafttech · 1 pointr/ipad

Maybe this? https://www.amazon.com/Incase-Origami-Workstation-iPad-Black/dp/B004X355Y6 It's a case for the Apple keyboard that has an iPad stand. I have one and have Duet, but far too lazy to set it up.

u/soflymcfly · 1 pointr/ipad

I also am using the Incase Origami Keyboard Case and I love it!

I'm gonna suggest something that you might not want but it works wonders for me.

My keyboard stays separate from my iPad in the Incase Origami and is well protected by that.

At, first I used an old macbook incase sleeve to protect my iPad, like you are doing but I didn't like that after a while.

So now, my iPad is protected by Apple's smart cover and the back is protected by the Belkin Snap Shield Back Cover. I'm not exactly gentle on my electronics and I have yet to have any damage.

I do this for two main reasons. I love the thin naked feel of the iPad and I didn't want to lose that feeling. The Belkin back cover helps preserve this, unlike other cases, they either have that portfolio feel or they are bulky. The second reason I don't want both my iPad and keyboard together in one case is I don't always want to have that full keyboard around. I enjoy reading on my iPad and I don't want that full keyboard around.

I hope this helps. In my opinion, as of now, this is the best option, to work with what we both already have (AKA the wireless keyboard), while preserving that streamlined Apple feel that I enjoy.

Let me know if you have any questions!

EDIT: Forgot to mention I hated having these two items separate in my bag, I wanted them together like you. So I found this really nice looking cloth elastic band thing that nicely holds them together in my bag. So it feels like they are one case (for the most part).

That's what I use, although I believe they just came out with a new type c version. (MB168C+ I think). To connect it to the surface, I just use a USB cable. When connecting it to my desktop, I use the USB ports on the side of my monitor.

It doesn't have any screws for VESA mounts unfortunately, so you'd need a clamp style if you want to elevate it. The included case acts as a stand, but that takes up too much desk space, so I use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-IPM-TAB1-AMZ-Adjustable-Tablet-Stand/dp/B006ZT4VA0

u/ActuaIButT · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Not sure if it would negatively affect how the disc based systems function, but some kind of raised-in-the-back, angled shelf display in each cubby would be a cool option to both eliminate some of that negative space and feature the full design of each console better. Something like this or this. Or you could even make your own out of wood.

u/SolidSonicTH · 1 pointr/gpdwin

For now I'll use this as a solution.

Not the best thing ever but as long as I have the stand with me, it'll suffice. At least this will allow me to sit it on things that might be soft (like a pillow).

If you're curious, this is what it is (nothing fancy). I tried using something a little taller but I couldn't get the body to sit on it properly so this will work.

I've spent years trying to figure out how to mount my ipad on my treadmill, bike and rower. So here are the options I've used:

  1. Spiderpodium - Used it on Lifecycle upright with good results. The biggest issue was how it would grab the console. The biggest problem is that the arms will eventually break off under daily reshaping. Don't know if this got fixed.

  2. TaoTronics Desk Stand - Worked really well with the upright and so so with treadmill. I'm a big guy and the bounce made the experience somewhat annoying.

  3. Logi case for the Ipad Pro - This covered up the console on both upright and treadmill but it didn't bounce around at all and stayed in place.

  4. Tablet Stand - Probably the best option if you can find one. The Magichold is a bit too short but I found some knockoff from China that went as high as 72 inches. This was the third best option.

  5. Kitchen tablet holder - Attaches to the ceiling or cabinet. Great example is here. Mine was attached to a wall and not the ceiling, this was the best option for the treadmill.
u/mbardeen · 1 pointr/homeautomation

For sensors I've got a mix, I use the Hue lights, so I ended up purchasing the Hue motion sensors. They work nicely within HA and, as a bonus, include temperature and light sensors. Other custom sensors I've built using NodeMCU boards -- this includes a board to transform my old 'dumb' alarm system into a smart one (just hooking up the door open/closed sensors to that), and the aforementioned chair sensor. There's also a few zwave and other sensors thrown in the mix.

I do use Google Assistant for voice commands from time to time, but my use is pretty limited. Most of the time my house just does what it's supposed to automatically.

I've got HassIO installed on a docker container in my house server. So far it's been extremely easy to maintain. I will install a secondary HA instance on a Pi3B to control my shed, but haven't done so yet.

For info screens, I use an old smartphone in my bedroom and a cheap android tablet in the kitchen. Neither are 'integrated' well with their surroundings. The tablet is on a movable mount (one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I4I92C2) and the phone is stuck to the side of my night stand with double sided tape, where I can see/reach it easily while in bed.

I just recently picked a different stand up on Amazon for a Surface Pro 2 to get it off the desk and gain more space. it is pretty stable, but again, not sure how well it works if you're going to be taking notes on it. I use it mostly as a stand to raise the screen higher off the desk so that I don't angle my head down all the time.

CTA Digital Kitchen Mount Stand

Currently I'm using it just a stand alone, but it comes with 2 brackets that you could mount on a wall or under a cabinet. then you fold the fee together and slide it into the holder. It's pretty neat actually! and only $29.

u/maniaman268 · 1 pointr/homeautomation

The tablet in my living room I mounted with magnets. I used epoxy to attach 2 large magnets to the back of the tablet and 2 magnets behind blank electrical cover plates. I'm using magnetic micro-USB cables for the chargers and powering them off of PoE so I don't have to mess with mains voltage. You can just grab the tablet and pull it off the wall.

For the other tablets, I bought plastic brackets off of Amazon and used the same magnetic micro-usb cables and POE power.

I had a similar concern when I started. I settled on a setup with printer paper attached to a clipboard (I use the Officemate Letter Size), and the clipboard mounted on a Artisul Freestyle Stand, with a strong clip securing the clipboard to the stand. I let the bottom of the clipboard rest on the lower rubber edge, so that my hand doesn't brush against the resistance.

With this setup I can mostly keep my neck straight and look with my eyes down at the angled paper. I'll also sometimes put the stand on top of a book to raise it higher up. It'll challenge your shoulder muscles but no more than an angled tablet. You also won't be able to rotate the page easily. I used that as an opportunity to practice drawing at all angles, instead.

It's a little pricy (about $70 for all the pieces) but your health is worth orders of magnitude more. As a bonus the stand works great with a tablet when you want to try digital drawing.

Get yourself an Artisul D13 Freestyle stand and some foam bumper feet. Cut the feet in half with scissors and stick 2 of them at the bottom of the lip that supports the tablet so it creates a small gap to let air in the bottom of the MSP's vents.

I have the MSP13 and it fits like a glove but provides great cooling, and a 16 should also fit but with a little overlap.

It's also a solid stand and fully adjustable. I couldn't use my MSP without it. I draw almost exclusively in my lap and the stand is solid for this purpose.
