Huawei MediaPad X3 is the best bet at that price range.

Virtual machines will get you banned pretty quickly, and Amazon Fire Tablets are like $50. You can get beermoney phones for a lot cheaper. For example

Fire 7 : https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01GEW27DA/

Fire 8 : https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01J94SWWU/

Discount also applies to the 16GB Fire 7 and 32GB Fire 8, which are $10/$30 more than their base models, respectively.

Both come with a Micro SD Slot so I don't really see a reason to get the higher capacity model unless you don't plan on using a SD Card(though on the HD 8 it's quite a bit more expensive for such a small storage gain so i wouldn't get that one at all).

you can also get it in "like new" state for 69

Finding cheap tablets that run Minecraft well is a bit tricky, and finding cheap tablets that may continue to work well for the next few years makes things a bit more difficult. I would only look for devices made after 2014 if possible. Anything before then would likely be worse than your current Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, or may not keep up with the ever more demanding games and apps in the coming years.

It's worth mentioning that there aren't many kid-friendly tablets that would be a significant upgrade from your current device. For example, the Kindle-Fire kids edition, while an excellent first tablet for kids, performs similarly to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and thus wouldn't be much of an upgrade. The devices I list are meant to be possible upgrade suggestions that utilize better hardware than cheaper tablets geared towards kids. However, some of the tablets I list can make for a great family tablet, and you can find accessories and cases for some of the options that make them more durable from inevitable drops and other accidents that may occur.

---

I currently have 6 tablets listed in three different price ranges that may be slightly or significantly better than your current device. Prices are in USD and may or may not include shipping in the cost. Also, with Black Friday and other holiday deals coming up, I would keep an eye out for other good deals and price drops as well.

Under $200:

  • Amazon Fire HD 8 (2016) - $90 for "Special Offers" version (essentially advertisements), $105 for version without Special Offers. While considerably cheap, it isn't too much of an upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, though it's still a good option. However, one major drawback is that this tablet does not come with the Google Play store, but instead uses the Amazon app store meaning all apps will have to be repurchased. It is possible to install and use the Google Play Store or Play Store apps on this tablet if you're willing to follow some technical guides.

  • Lenovo TAB 2 A10 (2015) - $150 for lowest tier model on manufacturer's site. Despite being released in 2015, this may not perform a whole lot better than your current Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.

    $200 - $300 range:

  • NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1 (2015) - $200 on manufacturer's site and Amazon. This device is comparable to the Galaxy Tab S2 in terms of performance, and is overall a very good tablet for its price.

    $300 - $400 range:

  • Huawei MediaPad M3 (2016) - Currently $300 on Amazon. Based on performance benchmarks, this is the best device on this list using some of the latest hardware for a fairly competitive price. Note that it won't ship in the US until November 21st.

  • ASUS ZenPad S 8 4GB RAM model (2015) - $300 on Amazon. While there is a $160 version with 2GB of RAM and a slower processor, reviews say the cheaper model is not great for gaming and tends to lag.

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8-inch (2015) - $350 on Amazon. Samsung previously had deals on the more expensive 9.7 inch version going for as low as $300, so it may be worth watching. This tablet is featured in some review sites as a good tablet for kids in-part because of Samsung's kids-mode feature.

Edit 1: added Asus ZenPad and Nvidia Shield tablet recommendations.

Edit 2: updated the link for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A to include the price-cut model.

Edit 3: added Amazon Fire HD 8.

Edit 4: Removed the Samsung Galaxy Tab A as nearly every device in the list outperforms it for the same price or less, making it a poor deal.

    ---

Sorry if this is an overwhelming amount of information to take in. If you have any other questions, feel free to reply! Also, if any other users have good deals or devices they want to mention, please do!

It's incredibly hard to recommend a tablet, when you don't put a budget that you want to stay within without going over. But I've listed some stuff below that I personally thought was 'cheap' when google searching 'android gaming tablet 2019' and 'budget android gaming tablets'. I kept pricing under $300, hope that helps best of luck to you.

Dragon Touch K10 - $109 on Amazon right now, probably the cheapest tablet I've found again like most other Android tablets. I don't know how well it'll do for gaming. But you can search for reviews on YouTube about the device and come to a conclusion.

Fire HD 10 - $149.99 on Amazon, you can install the Google Play Store on it, if it's any good for running games that I don't know. But there are guides (you can google them) that tell you how to install the Google Play Store.

Lenovo Smart Tab M10 - $179.99 on Lenovo's website, again not sure how well it will do for gaming. But I'm sure if you search YouTube you will find reviews on the device, and can come to your own conclusion.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 - $219 on Amazon, don't know much about this tablet if it's good for gaming or not. But you can search YouTube for it. I'm sure you will find a few reviews on it.

Apple iPad 6th Gen (Latest Model) - Amazon has it on sale for $249, regular price is $329.99. Great device (I own one it runs games buttery smooth), will last you years definitely worth getting I'd even recommend getting the 128GB Storage Model if it's in your price range.

u/neuranxiety · 12 pointsr/Professors

Sorry, not a professor, but a PhD student who's preparing for prelims. I just got an ipad for this exact reason. The 9.7 inch 2018 version has Apple Pencil support and sells for $250 on Amazon.

Picked up one of these, the apple pencil, and the notability app for under $400 total. It works beautifully and was totally worth it imo. All my papers w/ highlights and annotations synch directly to my computer along with all my notes etc through the app.

u/Marksta · 11 pointsr/buildapcsales

It's $60 shipped online, I'd rather just get this for $80 so you get a 1200p screen + SD card slot, HDMi out etc.

Nuvision 2017 model. The 2016 model is a little cheaper but gpu performance is nearly double in the newer 2017 model.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MYZEPGP/ref=sxts1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484310202&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65

There are other tablets with the same x86 SoC.. Many have 1gb ram. Nuvision has 2gb ram. Only 32gb on board storage but a micro SD port. A major downside is you can't charge while using USB otg. That's why I choose bluetooth mouse and game pad. It has HDMI out so it can be a great htpc and gaming console. I haven't tried GameCube emulation yet but I think it might handle it.

u/vonsmor · 8 pointsr/pcmasterrace

This cheap 8in tablet I got seems to be able to run just about anything I've tried I have Windows 10 Pro on it. Not a phone, but I have fun with it. Screen/build quality/ is actually fantastic. I used to play Stardew Valley on it, but it can handle the Netflix app, full Spotify windows install, Steam, Firefox/Chrome with extensions, Microsoft Office.

My only gripe with it is I wish they put two micro USB's on it like Raspberry Pi's do (one for power, and one for data), but it has bluetooth which seems fine for controllers, keyboard/mouse, etc. Has a headphone jack and micro SD slot too!

Can you elaborate on how Honeycomb is like Windows, in a bad way? Is in the bar at the bottom?

Also, just to let you know, the Xoom ($479, 32 GB wifi), Transformer ($394, 16 GB wifi), Acer Iconia ($355) are all $100+ cheaper than the comparble iPad model. Whether or not any of these tablets are actually better than the iPad is up to the consumer to decide (I personally prefer my Transformer over my old iPad 1, but to each his own).

I recently bought the cheapo Amazon Fire tablet (when it was on sale for $40).

Flashed a stock rom on it and I love it. Cheap and effective stock experience.

u/kingdom18 · 7 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

There's the Nvidia Shield Tablet, regarded as one of the best android tablets released in the last few years. Only $200 new, half the price of an iPad mini, you could probably save a bit and get one used. 8-inch display, full HD, 16GB storage with an SD slot, 2GB of RAM with their K1 processor so it would work great with Minecraft and anything else. https://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-SHIELD-K1-Tablet-Black/dp/B0171BS9CG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482420048&sr=8-1&keywords=shield+k1 Only thing is it doesn't come with a charger, but most people have some extra micro USB cables laying around.

u/sircod · 7 pointsr/AndroidGaming

The Amazon Fire HD8 is probably the only half-decent tablet under $100. It doesn't have the Play Store, but you can get it on there with a little bit of work.

u/alienccccombobreaker · 7 pointsr/AndroidGaming

Old Shield user here.. it's great but if you can't find one these are your next best options.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LB08BH6 - Huawei + Harman Kardon MediaPad M3 8.0 Octa Core 8.4" Android (Marshmallow) +EMUI Tablet, WiFi only, 32GB

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MATMXZV - ASUS ZenPad 3S 10 9.7" (2048x1536), 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC, 5MP Front / 8MP Rear Camera, Android 6.0, Tablet

I bought the first one end of January this year still going strong with a 200gb Micro SD Card.

Main strong points to get the Asus or Huawei over the Nvidia

  • 2k screen vs 1080p screen
  • 4gb ram vs 2gb ram
  • personally I found the Wi-Fi range better in my Huawei than when I had my nvidia but was very negligible but could be just build quality or positioning or 2013 hardware vs 2016 hardware who knows
  • This one is also anecdotal but battery drain for my nvidia was very fast compared to my Huawei even when properly plugged in into a 2A charger

Main strong points to get the Nvidia over the Asus or Huawei
  • GPU is like at least 50% better if not more
  • usually can be found for at least $100 USD cheaper if not more when you do find one
  • nvidia shield controller is really good, very easy gamepad mapping functionality
  • nvidia native software is also really really good, twitch streaming and video recording/screenshot features are top notch and have all the features and then some unlike my Huawei (I probably miss this the most)
  • close to stock android no bloatware
  • nvidia is such a cool gaming technology brand logo to have and usually plays nice with other nvidia features like pc game streaming if you have the right nvidia hardware
  • depending on which version you get; a stylus and stylus holder (K1 version doesn't have this only original)
  • lastly having seen both up front and close and personal the 1080p screen on the nvidia does look nicer than my Huawei but just maybe by a little bit the UI is definitely nicer and crisper

In closing, if nvidia just put more ram into their old tablet I would recommend it every time but because I ran into so many issues regarding ram limitations while I was putting extra stuff running in the background I was forced to switch to a larger ram tablet.

If you can control your multi tasking and don't run too many apps at one time then nvidia is for you.

But if you want more breathing area and room to play with then the Asus or Huawei is for you.

I only got the Huawei because at the time the Asus wasn't shipping to my country (Australia) but a month later they were.. ah well.. the Asus has more features, screen real estate and base storage than the Huawei for cheaper but the Huawei has some nice Harman Kardon speakers on each side in landscape so less chance of blocking the sound in landscape.. decisions decisions if I could try again I would get the Asus with LTE so it could be my phone and still have all the features but eh I'm stuck with this now until I figure out how I can replace it.

Good luck OP I hope this helps.

Your Kindle uses an ARM CPU. There is no generally available version of desktop Windows for ARM that includes the entire Windows stack for running GUI apps and services. There was an ARM version of Windows back when the original Surface came out but that was scrapped because it didn't sell well. It was never made available aftermarket and is locked to specific hardware. You can't install it on a Kindle due to platform locking and drivers.

Your best bet is to buy a Windows tablet. You can get a low end cheap one for ~ $75-$100 USD. Example: https://www.amazon.com/NuVision-Touchscreen-Quad-Core-Processor-Windows/dp/B01H3B17R8/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1491843642&sr=1-5&keywords=windows+tablet

Do you know how well it plays SW?

Edit: did some Google Fu and it seems like the Fire 8 HD is a better buy due to the increased RAM which gives it smoother performance. It's only $20 more for the 16 GB model. Link

If the rest of your devices live in the Apple ecosystem, the iPad mini is a great device. If you prefer to have the same 7-8" form factor in an Android device, I love my NVIDIA Shield K1. Unfortunately, it's sometimes difficult to find it in stock. The new Huawei Mediapad M3 is another 8" Android device that's getting very solid review.

u/brcreeker · 6 pointsr/Android

I can go right now and order a Nexus 9 running 5.0 and have it shipped to my door tomorrow. I seriously doubt the delays are Lollipop related. I think the issue is that Google/Motorola were simply not ready to launch the device when someone made the call to send out the initial press release back in October. It could also be that they simply did not anticipate the demand that this phone would have, seeing as how everyone and their grandmother shit all over it for having a nearly 6" screen, and they decided that they would attempt a small, quiet rollout and fill demand as it required.

u/Steeldragoon · 6 pointsr/PuzzleAndDragons

Kindle Fire, cheapest one is $50 and works with Multiplayer.

u/gameld · 6 pointsr/talesfromtechsupport

I think troublesome naming is the real culprit here:

  1. You have the Kindle which has a paperwhite display and is basically just an ereader.

  2. You have the Kindle Fire often simply called "Kindle" by its users which is an Android tablet focused on the Kindle store with its own UI.

Esta en especifica

Las surface en general estan a arriba de 200k.

u/oftheterra · 6 pointsr/microsoft

Edit: For those viewing the thread late -

For an entry level Surface tablet I'd currently recommend the Surface 3 64GB/2GB model + external monitor over the Surface Pro 3 i3 model since the performance is so similar - just don't expect to be able to play more than basic games or the ability to watch high bit-rate HD video.

If you want to splurge on a mid-range Surface tablet then I'd go for the Surface Pro 4 i5 128GB/4GB model - the CPU performs twice as fast as the low end tablets, and the graphics performance is about 70% better than all the others. The display is also higher quality and slightly larger, pressure sensitivity is increased x4, better camera, and it comes with a pen. The extra RAM and storage space will really help stave off any headaches you may experience with the entry models.

---

I think the main decision here is how much money you are willing to spend on it. Objectively, more money gets you a better device, so setting a price point pretty much establishes which one you are going to get:

  • Low-end: ~$400 - Surface 3 Atom 64GB | 2GB | 1.6 - 2.4 GHz | 2MB Cache | 600 MHz
  • Low-end: ~$500 - Surface Pro 3 i3 64GB | 2GB | 1.5 GHz | 3MB Cache | 850 MHz
  • Mid-range: ~$700 - Surface Pro 3 i5 s4 128GB | 4GB | 1.9 - 2.9 GHz | 3MB Cache | 1100 MHz
  • Mid-range: ~$800 - Surface Pro 4 i5 s6 128GB | 4GB | 2.4 - 3.0 GHz | 3MB Cache | 1000 MHz
  • High-end: ~$1000 - Surface Pro 3 i7 256GB | 8GB | 1.7 - 3.3 GHz | 4MB Cache | 1100 MHz

    * Image comparison

The 10.8" devices are actually a Surface 3's with a Atom x7-Z8700 processors. The 12" devices are the Surface Pro 3's with core i3/i5/i7 processors. The i5/i7 CPU's generally perform twice as well as the Atom/i3 in benchmarks. The Surface Pro 4 also performs about 70% better than the Pro 3's in graphics benchmarks (+7-15% better in CPU tests).

Since you are unlikely be using it for anything super demanding, I'd recommend you go for the mid-range Surface Pro 3 (see my note at the bottom about the Pro 4 though, which is a decent upgrade for +$80). Both screens have the same DPI (detail level), so you are getting roughly 25% more screen real estate with the bigger one (no quality improvement). Draw two rectangles with the following dimensions to get an idea of the difference in viewing area:

    9" x 6" vs. 10" x 6.7"

Otherwise, the core i5/i7 processors have TurboBoost to add another 1 GHz of processing power (the i3 apparently does not, Atom has Boost for +800 MHz). 4GB of ram is much better than 2GB, and 128GB storage space would be much better than 64 as you could easily bump into the later's limit. 8GB Ram, 256GB storage, and a Core i7 are the top-end luxury options which have diminishing returns over the mid-range options.

Keep in mind the following things:

  • You may want to invest in a Type Cover in order to have a physical keyboard
  • Similarly, you may want a USB or bluetooth mouse
  • Try to get one which comes with Windows 10 instead of 8
  • A larger investment, but potentially worthwhile one, would be an external monitor with a DisplayPort connector - both devices have Mini DisplayPorts for hooking up to monitors for lots more screen real estate
  • There are Surface Pro 4 devices available which cost roughly $100 more for the same system specs as the Pro 3 versions, but with better DPI and .3" larger screen

For the purpose of clinical rotations, I'd recommend the ipad mini mainly because of its size. Anything larger will be clunky. You'll be on the wards where you might not have access to a safe place to keep your belongings, so everything you have needs to fit in your pocket. You can check out the Apple refurbished section of the Apple website to see if they have any refurbs for sale. You can also check out Best Buy for any open boxed units for some savings. Finally, you can hit up Craigslist or eBay for a used unit.

If you're not tied to the Apple ecosystem, I'd also recommend a comparable tablet from Samsung, like the Galaxy Tab S2. I personally use the Galaxy Tab S2. It is very fast, long battery life despite some samsung bloatware. The main advantage it has over the ipad is removable storage. I pop in a 128 microSD card that contains all of my study materials and I'm good to go. You can go for cheaper tablets, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (hovers sub-200).

Some people feel fine using the Amazon Fire tablets. I do not recommend them after using one. I used to have the base model, $50 one. I found out that 1) it was hard to put the Android app store on there, 2) it only came with 90 day warranty. I also found it very slow. But some students do enjoy using it and I guess you don't have to worry about having it banged up during your rotations. If you are interested in one, I'd recommend getting at least the upgraded model Fire 8 (https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Amazon-Fire-HD-8-8-Inch-Tablet-8GB/dp/B018SZT3BK) since that one should have at least the 1 yr warranty.

source: i like tech a lot and every once in a while, I'll review something with a focus towards using it for med school. here's my review of the ipad mini 4 if you are interested. it was written a while back but most of the comments still apply. http://soapdoodle.com/2015/12/27/s-o-a-p-review-apple-ipad-mini-4-is-it-worth-having-on-the-wards/

The 2018 iPad is currently available on Amazon for the cheapest I’ve seen. See here for the space grey version. That being said, the laminated display really is a pleasure to write and draw on. I’m not sure how much the refurbished iPad Pro you are looking at costs, but if it is close in price, I recommend the new iPad Air as a consideration.

So, I had a iPad mini version 2 that was struggling in 5v5 the last few updates. I was getting a lot of frame rate drops and occasional crashes until this update happened. With this update I couldn't even get through a 5v5 game without a crash. I was very frustrated to say the least but I decided it was time to upgrade. Do I wish I didn't have to? Of course... Do I wish the game was better optimized for my old iPad? Yes, but what you gonna do?

So I went to Amazon and got this Apple iPad (Wi-Fi, 32GB) - Space Gray (Latest Model) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BTS2KWK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_isDWCb308W1KF

The game plays perfectly now. And as a bonus my first rank game got me back into VG.

u/zz4 · 4 pointsr/tablets

Well, you have several options and I think it's important to know whether you get to spend up to 300 on the product, or less and keep the difference.

If you want an Android Device, the new Nexus 7 falls right in your price range. I had the original, and it was pretty good. You get a 1080p screen and Google's latest OS versions because its a Nexus. Google app integration is also fantastic. It's a productive and light device with a lot of media consumption options.

If you want a Windows Tablet, the [Dell Venue 8 Pro] (http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Venue-Pro-Tablet-Windows/dp/B00FEE7B1I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1394742272&sr=8-2&keywords=dell+venue+8+pro) is generally regarded as the best Windows 8 inch tablet. The overall experience might not be as good as the Nexus because you're porting over a full OS to an 8 inch screen, but the potential is greater because you can run normal windows programs on it.

Another option you might want to consider is a Chromebook, which has deep google integration (It is their Chrome OS after all!). The Acer 720p has a touchscreen and good reviews, you also get a keyboard and great battery life! The downside is it's not going to use android apps and you'll have to rethink what you believe a computer should do.

Ultimately it's about what you want to do with it, I think for your needs any of the three above will work, though I suppose the best for you might be the Nexus 7.

u/aquarain · 4 pointsr/Android

The Nexus 7 2013 is available on Amazon. The 16GB is $180, which is a heck of a deal.

I wrote this on one. Gets a lot of use.

u/Baron164 · 4 pointsr/tablets

I'd recommend the $50 Amazon Fire 7" Tablet. You can upgrade the 16gb model for an extra $20. It's also rootable and you can get the Google App Store on it without even rooting it. It also has an SD slot.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ref=fs_ods_fs_tab_fd

My only issue is that it took my 3 attempts to get one without dead pixels. But Amazon replaced them without issues. And my experience with the screen, according to reviews is in the minority.

u/derpcode · 4 pointsr/Warmachine

Just PSA, the new War Room works on $50 tablets so it might now be cheaper and easier to switch to digital.

I don't actually think the cards you want will be available outside of digital for a few months.

edit: I would just screen shot from War Room. You don't need a PDF resolution unless you're going for professional print. There's a few cards that need to scroll however :-(

u/f_bastiat · 4 pointsr/The_Donald

This is the one i buy, they are $49.99 right now, but often go on sale for $39.99 and if you wait for black friday, the last 2 years they have been $34 because i bought some both years. I also bought otterbox equivalent cases for the kids for like $25 each and they have thrown them, submerged them, danced on them, the things do not break.

u/GuiltyTangent · 4 pointsr/perktv

tldr; buy a used Kindle Fire here.

I have quite a bit of experience with regards to these. You can purchase "refurbished" Dragon Touch tablets on eBay for anywhere from $22-30. Links are at the bottom, they come in and out of stock often. I had some luck flipping them out on my local Facebook and Craigslist for $35-40. However, the margins were small, and Craigslist people are generally just awful to deal with. I eventually gave up.

The Y88X and Y88X Plus models that I have had all ran Perk apps fairly well. One idea is to buy these, run Perk apps for a few weeks, then flip them off to someone else. These tablets are hardly durable, they WILL die in short order if used to farm 24/7. The amount of heat generated while farming was quite scary.

In terms of the RCA, these tablets are pure garbage. Avoid them at all costs.

A MUCH better option is to purchase a refurbished Kindle Fire from Amazon Warehouse deals. These are anywhere from $26-30 and are actually decent tablets. Use them for a few months and flip them out on FB or CL. These run PTV well. They also hold there value quite well too. You can easily make a slight profit selling them for $35 or so once you are done farming.

I'll post a few Android tablets and you be the judge of which one you'd like to investigate further:

1: ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101-A1 = $379.99

2: MOTOROLA XOOM = $419.99

3: Original Samsung Galaxy Tab = $314.95

4: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus = $399.99

5: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 = $479.99

Edit: As someone else mentioned, the Transformer Prime is almost out and it might be exactly what you're looking for. If you don't want to spend $500+ on the Transformer Prime though, I highly suggest looking at the slightly older Transformer TF101.

It does only have 1 GB of RAM instead of 2GB, but if you're mainly using it to read comics, that should be more than sufficient.

u/annoyedandgame · 3 pointsr/rpg

I used my Nexus7's to death for years, but since Google dropped support on them, they've kinda crapped out for most things (still not bad for reading pdfs though).

However, if you are looking for a tablet for reading pdfs on a budget, there really is no better deal right now than the Kindle Fire. $50 for a fully featured tablet is an insanely good deal. The only drawback to these tablets is that they don't come with Google Play services installed, but tech savvy people can fix that with about 20min worth of tinkering. They had a deal where if you buy 5, you get a 6th one free, and I should have jumped on it, since I've now bought four of them, and another two for $50 would be nice.

u/jarstult · 3 pointsr/summonerswar

I ended up getting my son this $50 kindle fire tablet for Christmas. The issue is you can only install apps from the amazon app store and summoners war is not offered there.

BUT! Here is a guide on how to manually add the google play store and remove the built in ads. I have summoners war installed and ready to go for him. Not exactly sure on the performance aspect of the device but it is still a quad core processor so I imagine it should run juts fine.

If you actually are going to be using the touchscreen for notetaking, I probably would not recommend anything other than the Surface Pro 4. Most touchscreens are not responsive and accurate enough for actual note taking, and it's really only the Surface Pro 4 that is consistently known for doing it well.

Unfortunately it's quite an expensive device, with a version with an i5, 8gb of ram and 256gb ssd costing $1030 just just the tablet portion. The keyboard and Pen are only sold separately and another $113 and $45 respectively.

u/million_hearts · 3 pointsr/EngineeringStudents

The SSD in mine died right outside of the warranty window. Most other laptops it'd be no big deal - $50 replacement and you're back in business. But these are almost completely unrepairable. I was unlucky, but even if nothing went wrong they're designed to be disposable.

Second, the 8gb models (which you really want for Solidworks) are quite expensive. My 4gb SP4 crapped out all the time when working with large assemblies.

People act like the note taking functionality is a game changer but in my opinion, it's not really worth it. It's slower and less comfortable than writing on paper, and it's not like paper notes are that hard to store and organize.

You can hook a second screen up to almost anything.

Edit: maybe I wasn't so unlucky after all. Used, unreliable, and unrepairable? That's the trifecta of shit. Don't do it.

u/MarcStew · 3 pointsr/Surface

No, bad deal. Yesterday I bought an SP4 i7 8GB 256GB for $1090.

That's $90 more for an improved CPU, 4 more GB of ram, and 128 more GB of storage. Check Amazon, prices may still be low. I'm taking mine to the Microsoft store 30 minutes from me when it arrives tomorrow and adding on Microsoft Complete for another $150.

Check the prices here for better deals and get a typecover then add on the Microsoft complete warranty within 45 days: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-Intel-Core/dp/B01606KJ6C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496842444&sr=8-1&keywords=surface+pro+4

u/Aperture_Kubi · 3 pointsr/gaming

So this might be a bit of a stretch to setup, but a Windows tablet with EmulationStation. It's basically a RetroPi (well the front end it uses), but since it's on a beefer Windows tablet you have a larger array of games (and storage) to work with, plus built in screen so it's portable. And since it runs full Windows you can connect any controller of your choice, and any other games or programs of your choice (Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Twitch, Steam, Origin, GoG, etc).

I'm a personal fan of the Surface Pro 4, though I understand if you want something cheaper to lug around like that. I think the SP3's still hold up well.

Also I believe the latest iteration of the XB1 controller supports bluetooth (and audio passthrough for 3.5mm headphones)

u/PackingLite · 3 pointsr/digitalnomad

Two come to mind, the first is the Surface Pro 4, its just over 2lbs with the keyboard and has an i5 or i7 processor.

Another good choice would be the Lenovo Lavie 360 its also very light and powerful.

The Switch is definitely not more for less, at least in terms of hardware. Nvidia's K1 Tablet is weaker than the Switch would be since it's using the K1 rather than the more advanced X1. It also doesn't have an internal fan, detachable controllers, Type C, or docking capability.

They are on sale now.
A friend just bought the 7" (just for summoners war) and he is happy with it .

u/tomkatt · 3 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

My recommendation in the past would have been a Shield K1 tablet but they're getting harder to find now that they're discontinued. The lowest price I see right now on Amazon is $320. Unfortunately tablets are in a weird place right now, where anything under $200 doesn't get you a lot, and then there's a jump to like $500-$600 with almost nothing in between. The only other comparable device might be the Lenovo Tab A10, but it's basically the same thing as the Fire or the Galaxy one.

The Asus Zenpad S8 4GB model might be a good choice. It's got a 2.3GHz Intel chip in it, but it's $350. My wife has the 2GB/1.8GHz version of that tablet we found for $160 at one point, and it's got the most beautiful screen I've ever seen on a tablet. That said, I don't know how the 1.8GHz model does for emulation, and I'm mostly just seeing the 1.3GHz version under $200 for it.

Sorry. The market's a bit screwy at the moment. With no real "gaming tablet" successor for the Shield tablet, It's a bit hard to recommend anything. Caveat emptor, as a lot of tablets have pricing all over the board but run on the same lower end chips ranging 1.3-1.6GHz.

----

Edit - The Huawei MediaPad m3 doesn't look too bad. Reasonable specs for the price, though it's above the budget you were looking at. Huawei and Xiaomi are surprise contenders in the tablet market, and you might find somehing decent looking at those brands.

Scratch that. The Asus Zenpad 3s. For the price, that's probably the best bang for your buck and should perform well with PPSSPP. It's above your budget, but it's the best I could find that suits what you're looking for, as close to the price you're looking at. And with 4GB RAM in that thing with a QHD screen and 2.1GHz A53 Quad core chip, that's actually a good price for the specs at $287. It'll do well for movies, very, very good for reading, and be solid for gaming I think.

In fact, that thing looks nice enough that if anything happens to my Shield tablet, that'll likely be my replacement unless something better comes in the price range. And ASUS screens are gorgeous.

u/GeneralELucky · 3 pointsr/PickAnAndroidForMe

Tab S2 is a good choice, especially considering the S3 was intended as a "pro" tablet, isolating its market. However, I can imagine that an S4 will be announced in early Spring 2018, if you wanted to wait.

If you don't, I'd look into the S2, or even the ZenPad 3S10. A recent Android Police podcast gave a strong review for it. It launched with Marshallow and received Nougat in June.

u/BeerGogglesFTW · 3 pointsr/Android

I could use advice on a new 10" tablet.

At some point I'm going to need to replace my ASUS Transformer TF701T.

3 nagging issues are getting to me.

  1. The speakers blew and so I currently keep portable speakers on hand now, but it can be a pain.

  2. I've had it rooted for the last couple years with CM or Katkiss installed... But with the whole Netflix/Playstore thing, I decided to go back to stock... Stock is garbage. 4.4.2 with bloatware and terrible battery life. (I tried Magisk + Katkiss but I'll have to try again to get it working properly)

  3. I always hated that it uses a hard to find 36-pin (I think) connector and ASUS plug. Its overpriced and the knockoffs are terrible. I've tried a few and they're all disposable.

So I'm about ready to move on, but I'm trying to keep it cheap as possible without feeling like I'm downgrading. TF701T really did feel quite amazing running some roms.

    Right now I'm looking at:

    ASUS ZenPad 3S 10

    Samsung Galaxy Tab A
u/ClosingFrantica · 3 pointsr/grandorder

Anyone playing the game on the Asus Zenpad 3S 10? I'm considering picking it up for work reasons and I wanted to know if the game runs well. It seems powerful enough with 4GB of RAM, but I might as well ask.

u/Sether2121 · 3 pointsr/grandorder

For a bit more than the Zenpad 10, you can pick up the newer model. I've messed around with my friend's a but and it feels really smooth

u/smayonak · 3 pointsr/tablets

Have owned it for several months and use it every day. It's a Signature Edition from Microsoft -- so no bloatware. Unfortunately, it is sold out there.

The same model is available on Amazon for $67. But you have to ask them directly about the warranty because chances are: there is none though Amazon. That they don't list the warranty should be illegal.

It is a rebranded (NuVision is not a manufacturer, they sell rebranded Onda devices) Onda 8-inch tablet. The difference is that it only includes Windows 10. NuVision also released an "updated" version of the tablet called the Solo 8, but from what I can tell, this thing is identical to the Nuvision 8 in hardware. In software, it comes with the Creator's Update (which you can update to for free anyway).

Cherry Trail is adequate in performance. Were it running Android, this thing would be a performance beast. For Windows, it runs OK in 1920 x 1200 and slightly better in 1280 x 800. The battery life is good if you optimize it properly (here's a great Cherry Trail optimization video ).

People with poor battery life are installing lots of crapware, malware, PUPs, and software that runs in the background. That's why they're reporting increased battery drain later on down the line. They are installing lots of software that runs in the background that drains battery life. This tablet isn't for most people.

The thing about a 32GB tablet is that you ABSOLUTELY need to install software you 100% trust and -- ON TOP OF THAT -- you need to use a microSD card with good random read/write speeds, like a Samsung EVO+ or EVO Select card for offloading apps onto (which requires additional configuration).

Again, this is the best tablet. But mobile ARM processors are arriving in Windows 10 soon. I'm hoping a 64GB (or 32GB with microSD card storage) with 4GB of RAM device, with stylus support, and a 7-inch screen comes out. Chances are it'll be better than the Cherry Trail devices. Particularly in battery life.

u/MrWally · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

I tried looking into this a year or two ago (albeit, I didn't look that hard).

I think your best bet will be a Windows 10 tablet with a controller mount. That will handle some games and emulation, with the possibility of using a streaming service.

I tried this tablet: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYZEPGP/ref=psdc_1232597011_t1_B01H3B17R8

For the price, it's a really cool little device. I played some of my favorite old school classics on it, and managed to get some emulators going decently well. But I ended up returning it after a few weeks. You really need at least 4gb of RAM to have a viable Windows experience. If you can, I would also shoot for at least an Atom x5 Z8350. The Atom processors really aren't built for gaming, but they're cheap. And will stream content well.

If you're willing to jump to 10 inches, you can get something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-10-1-Touchscreen-1920x1200-Marshmallow/dp/B071Z6XPDZ/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1542308120&sr=1-6&keywords=tablet+Intel+Atom+x5-Z8550

And then pair it with a Bluetooth gamepad. Or a Steam Controller for greater flexibility, if you're willing to drop the joycon feel.

u/Ghopper101 · 3 pointsr/MarvelUnlimited

I would go for a 10.1 inch tablet, since that is the closest size for modern comics. The Lenovo Tab 4 seems to be a good cheap option. I plan to switch to this when I finally decide to break down and replace my aged Galaxy Tab 2.

u/dmtalon · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

The only one I can recommend in the $250 range is the base model iPad. It plays everything well and runs laps around Android tablets in the same price range: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-iPad-WiFi-Space-Model/dp/B07BTS2KWK

u/ApatheticCreative · 3 pointsr/gpdxd

Others have already said basically the same thing, but I'll add to the pile.

The GPD XD will be great for everything you want to do with the exception of Nintendo 3DS, PSVITA and Persona 4. An actual PS VITA can be had used for a little over $100. If you jailbreak it, you now have access to the entire VITA library + Persona 4 Golden and games up to and including the PS1 and Gameboy Advance, but Nintendo DS emulation isn't really viable due to a much slower CPU compared to the GPD, though I guess they're working on that. Still no 3ds.

If you want everything on one device in your pocket, you'll need a GPD Win 2, which is orders of magnitude more expensive. It's also powerful enough to run Citra (Nintendo 3ds emulator), a Playstation 2 emulator (Persona 4), All consoles up to and including Gamecube, and all but the most demanding of PC games. The only thing you'll really be lacking there is VITA games, as there aren't any viable VITA emulators out there yet that I'm aware of. (Vita3k looks promising. Not there yet though).

A laptop with performance on par with, or better than a Win 2 can be had for less than a Win 2 goes for, but it's not exactly pocket friendly. Still, this might be a viable way to go paired with a decent controller as long as you don't mind lugging it around. Some benefits too, such as a larger screen and better heat management on account of a larger device.

It's overpriced if you compare to Aliexpress, I got it from lanruo for $877.

u/iX1911 · 2 pointsr/tablets

Bought the Amazon Fire HD 8 on Christmas. It's great for the price and while the build quality feels average, I'm still more confident in it lasting longer than cheap Chinese tablets.

I think the Fire HD 8 is great for web-browsing, reading and light gaming. The battery is good, the SoC feels good enough for my needs and it is really easy to side-load the regular Google play store (takes 3 min, just download and install 4 apks).

My only wish is for the screen to be higher quality, but it's hard to complain with such a great budget tablet.

See how there's an option "With Special Offers" and "Without Special Offers", it's basically lockscreen ads and the occasional ad in your notifications.

I just got the Kindle Fire HD 8 and it's pretty slick. Less than $100 and looks great to me.

No problem. If you decide to go with my idea then you can put the prize for this contest towards your brothers gift and maybe even upgrade him to the Fire 8. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J94SWWU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_AUeVAbZ1Q7GRN

No problem. I wouldn't go with the RCA personally. The viewing angle and colors are awful. The fire's will have much better screens and they are brand new starting at $50. If money isn't super tight, I'd spring for the $80 8" version.

u/Midnight_Rising · 2 pointsr/gadgets

Best ebook reader is still the Kindle. But for tablets I'd recommend their 8" HD.

And here's CNET's review:

Haha. I clearly did not read your entire post, or I would've noticed that you mentioned this tablet. Whoops. Anyway, as the previous owner of the Nexus 7 2012 and 2013, this thing is amazing. I love how they got rid of the back, home, and menu buttons entirely. You can add them to the screen if you like, and in multiple configurations, or even have a small floating button that expands and has them. Or, you can ditch them entirely, in favor of the intuitive single physical button, below the screen. You tap once to go back, hold to go home, or swipe left or right in leui of the menu button. Also, 4GB of RAM and this screen is gorgeous! I'm never going back.

u/Skvli · 2 pointsr/tablets

I know you're specifically asking about 7 inchers, but I don't know of any. I DO know that my Huawei Mediapad M3 (8 inch) was about $300 and is the best piece of tech I've ever owned in the bang for your buck category. Great screen, fast enough, and handles everything I've thrown at it. I'm in USA though, not sure if that affects what you're able to get or not.

I like to keep an eye on the tablet market and the Dell 5855 $450 and HP 608 $420 both have extremely nice 8" tablets that have 4gbs of ram but they're much much more expensive.

If you drop the 4gbs of RAM requirement, then a whole slew of options open up. A friend bought a few of these tablets during Microsofts 12 days of Christmas sale. And they've been holding up so far. He also bought a few of these 5 or so months ago (he has no impulse control) as gifts too. One died shortly after receiving it and he had to pay $20 bucks or so to return it and get shipped back another. If it was me, I might give the NuVision one a try.

I currently have an Asus VivoTab Note 8. Its able to do most things I throw at it, even a bit of GIMP photo editing but I wouldn't suggest multitasking with it and I think that's where the size comes into play. When you get into the 10" size, they start having keyboard options and become more productivity machines than entertainment devices so the additional ram becomes more important.

The last thing to note; Intel may have killed the Atom chip line. I don't think any new 8" tablets have been announced recently and I would suspect the market for them will start to shrivel up but that's just purely speculation on my part.

I've personally found that I've gotten more use out of my 8" Android tablet than my Windows one simply because, at that size, I use it for media consumption and the Android one is easier for that stuff but that's just my 2 cents.

u/xX420_WeedMan_420Xx · 2 pointsr/androidtablets

First off, I don't know your budget, so I figured about $300 US max.

Tablets I have found with newer Android systems:

  1. 10.1 inch Lenovo Tab 4 for $165 US (Nougat)
  2. 8 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab A for $187.99 US (Nougat)
  3. USED 8 inch LG G Pad for $99.70 + $5.12 US shipping on Amazon, lowest price (Lollipop) This tablet was on the AT&T carrier, but since you say all you need it for is a alarm control panel, that's not an issue.
  4. I would have a Amazon Kindle on here, but your app is not on the Amazon appstore, however if you want a Kindle (Fire 7 starts at $49.99 US) You can get the APK and install it on the Kindle.

That's some recommendations for now, if I find anymore I'll update this list.

I've had a Lenovo Tab 4 10" since April and I really love it. I read novels, manga, watch anime, it's very quick and video plays well. Good for web browsing too. Sometimes our home internet will drop for a few hours and I will move my sim card into it and it works like a champ. That might be too expensive, but the wifi only version is only $160

I use fully kiosk browser to make it take up the full screen. I've been using it for smartthings panel, but moving to homeassistant soon.

I got it last year on sale for around $110. Pretty cheap, works well. Occasionally (once every 2-3 months) it'll restart itself due to updates.

I see! It depends what notetaking software you use.

iPad solution: I would suggest this stand with an apple pencil compatible iPad. This one is only $250 and is compatible with the apple pencil. However, think about how you're going to have to load the lectures onto the iPad.

You can probably manage it on the iPad, but you're going to need to access the lecture through your email/online student center which could get difficult on the ipad.

A 2-in-1 laptop is a more elegant solution. You can download the lecture from wherever it comes from, then switch the laptop into a tablet and place it on the stand. Check out this summary by wirecutter on the best 2-in-1 laptop solutions.

Hope that helps

It's not an Indiegogo product for quite some time now, it's valid production unit:

https://www.amazon.com/Handheld-Portable-Gameplayer-Notebook-Graphics/dp/B07CK7DRYS

You can get it via Aliexpress and others for cheaper if you prefer, or rely on Amazon's customer's protection for extra bit of cash.

Oh, and it's not exactly "shiny" :) It's not an Apple or a Microsoft device, it's a low-end handheld laptop with clunks here and there (that's been mostly ironed out from my personal experience, but there are always exceptions), it has it's quirks and requires fiddling here and there to get the most of, but if you like that sort of thing and don't expect a boot up and play experience like the Switch, you can get much more than your money's worth.

I currently play Fallout NV's Tale of Two Wastelands on it on the couch between Stellaris and fully patched and expanded Civ VI bouts, and it's frickin' awesome :D Much better than my Switch that currently gathers dust in my cupboard.

i'm pretty sure the transformer is normally $400. here and here and here and here

u/theonewiththetits · 2 pointsr/rpg

I've been gming for years and years, and I use an Asus Transformer.

It uses the android interface, which is similar in style to the ipad interface, though not the same. You'll notice if you scroll down you can "buy it with" the transformer eeepad dock. I bought one of these and love the hell out of it. It is a backup battery/keyboard combo that allows you to type into your transformer like it's a laptop. it takes up very minimal space on a table or desktop, and has a touchscreen interface on the tablet itself. also access to the google play store.

u/lightonahill · 2 pointsr/tablets

Tablets usually have apps that are a lot different than windows. I don't think that there's any tablet that will give you as many programs and as much processing capability than a laptop. I think it's cool to have a tablet as well, but I would never suggest replacing your laptop with a tablet. Get another laptop.

I know from a friend with experience, you can't even play league on a netbook very well. (Your fps will be ~5.)
I do know of a tablet that "transforms" (you attach a keyboard) from a tablet into a keyboard and if you're just looking for something to do some basic word processing, listening to music, playing casual games (think angry birds and sudoku and maybe doodle jump), I would suggest that.
Unfortunately unless you're going to wait for the "Windows Surface" tablet to come out (which by the way, every other version of windows seems to be the bad one- the last one was vista...so 8 might be it), you should just get another laptop. There aren't any tablets (that I know of) that have just windows or mac OS on them, and even if there was, no tablet will have the amount of space (my tablet has about 32 gigs of hard drive space, my laptop has about 300) or processing power (my tablet runs on dual-core processors but it still crashes if I have too many tabs open on chrome while I'm listening to music and have other stuff running in the background) as a laptop.

Aaand for me, the biggest difference between using a laptop and a tablet:
1- The battery life. My laptop's battery is failing but I'm getting a new one. Which is also what's cool about laptops- they are infinitely more serviceable than tablets.
2-The way I sit. If I'm using my laptop sitting in a chair/couch, I can comfortably set it down on my lap or on a surface. But if it's my tablet, and I'm watching a video, it has to be kinda quiet in the room because the speakers are on the back. It can't support itself so (i don't have a base/stand for my tablet, but I could probably use one) if I want to use it without having to hold it up I have to prop it up against something or sacrifice the quality of the sound.

So yeah. If you're looking for a tablet to replace your laptop, I'd say just get another laptop. I don't think tablets are worth the money unless you have the money to spare to have both some form of computer and a tablet. But if you're still looking for a suggestion, I'd suggest this:

u/jorsiem · 2 pointsr/gadgets

Anything from the Nexus line is VERY good quality. They also have the best UI and are first in line for OS updates.

It depends in what size are you looking at but you can get the Nexus 7 for $239.99

If you are in the market for something a bit bigger, the 8-inch Samsung Tab 4 seems like a solid contender at that price point ($219.99)

u/watchova · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

If you look like at Amazon's page for the Nexus 7 mark 2 they have links to a travel cover(the same that debaserr linked), a premium case(that doesn't have a link yet but looks nice), and a screen protector.

http://www.amazon.com/Google-Nexus-Tablet-7-Inch-Black/dp/B00DVFLJKQ/ref=sr_tr_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1374962994&sr=8-2&keywords=nexus+7

All of them are "official" from ASUS. The ASUS screen protector comes with 2 versions, one glossy and one anti-glare. However, I've always really liked the Armorsuit. They're tough and once it's applied it practically disappears. It doesn't look like they have one for the mark 2 yet but I highly recommend Armorsuit for a screen protector.

u/manormortal · 2 pointsr/Android

I'd personally would get in on this refurb nexus 7 deal for $130 over that, especially at that price. Only thing that memopad has going for it is the microSD storage. I'd take the extra gig of ram and development community of the nexus over that any day. If you insist on the memopad, Amazon has it for $125

u/Ravynmagi · 2 pointsr/tablets

The one thing that comes to mind is the ASUS Memopad 7 ME176CX-A1-BK. It's a bit more expensive, normally $150. But Amazon often has sales on it, it's $125 at the moment. That would be better, a real Android experience, a bit bigger.

Transformers are android tablets so they run android. I own the very first model tf101. I'm not sure if I would even recommend one at this point. The only advantage at the time was the keyboard but you can pretty much use a Bluetooth keyboard with any android tablet now and I barely used it anyway. My idea was to replace my laptop with it but that's impossible for the 20% of the time you need an actual laptop. A tablet just won't replace a laptop.

I have a nexus 7 2013 and I really love it. It's less than $150 now so maybe that would be appropriate for your needs and you'll save $250. There are much more robust gaming tablets if that's your thing but any current tablet will play any video/audio and be fine for light work, check out http://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-940-81761-2500-000-SHIELD-Tablet-WiFi/dp/B00LM6KF7O

This is weird. I have 3 sources that I actually trust, giving 3 different numbers:

  • Google Play Store 425g
  • Amazon 435g (converted from 15.4 ounces)
  • Tom's Hardware 480g

The store links are both to the 16 GB Wifi model. I'm not sure what's going on here, but the actual number doesn't super matter. Even if we take Google's number because it's the official one, the thing is only 5g off from an iPad Air 2 despite being a 9" tablet. It's not even lighter than the 9" Amazon tablet from last year (379g). And it's still 30% heavier than the mini. Basically, the Nexus 9 is bulky. I don't know who its target audience is, but it's certainly not people who want an iPad mini.

kindle fire 7 http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-7-Inch-Tablet-8GB/dp/B00TSUGXKE I have several of these running and they are the MOST stable device I have. i sometimes walk up to a black screen (which makes me think it rebooted because it's back at the lock screen and my settings window is closed) or a spinning circle, but mostly "are you still watching" and sometimes it just runs ALL NIGHT! Perk TV is the only app available in the amazon app store and I'm too lazy to sideload something else and test it.

Amazon Kindle Fire flashed with CyanogenMod in place of the stock FireOS.

If you have Prime, the tablet is rumored to be going on sale for $15 off on Tuesday.

u/Cool-Beaner · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Just buying a Pi, SD card, power supply, and display, and you are up to about $80. And we haven't even talked about a case or battery solution. And then you would need to configure the software for epub or mobi or pdf, etc.

A 7 inch Kindle Fire is $50.
https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-7-Inch-Tablet-8GB/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ref=sr_1_1

u/Danger-Moose · 2 pointsr/rva

The Fire is only $50 through Amazon. Are you looking for cheaper than that?

u/mistical · 2 pointsr/AskTechnology

Most likely, yes. That's relatively a small amount of space today considering how most games and even apps are gaining in size. Also not all apps or games can be moved to the SD storage, which it sounds like you may know already but if not, now you do. You also need to make sure that his tablet has an SD card slot to even try it, if you decide to buy it from him unless you checked on this already.

How much are you buying this tablet for? If you want a relatively cheap tablet, I highly recommend the Amazon Fire 7" Tablet for $50. You can't go wrong with this cheap tablet or even consider another Amazon Fire tablet at a slightly higher price and better specs.

I know it's been as low as $40, never checked if cheaper than that over the holidays. It's a great tablet for your simple everyday stuff. Especially if you throw on your own custom OS such as Cyanogenmod which is now dead but this version still will work, otherwise other custom OS's can be looked into here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire

u/itsamamaluigi · 2 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

My concern is if you're in bed, your arms will get tired/sore if you're trying to hold up a tablet or controller. At least if you're lying flat. If you can sit up and hold it in your lap, you're fine.

I have another suggestion. The Moga controller you linked is very cheap, but also very bad. Won't work with most apps and doesn't even have a d-pad. I understand you're on a very limited budget.

What about a Sony Xperia Play? It's even older and less powerful than the Moto E, so you can write off PSP emulation entirely. But none of the devices you're looking at would do PSP well anyway. The Xperia Play has a slide out gamepad, it can still play PS1 and GBA games, and it sells for only around $50 used.

If you want to get a tablet, while the Ipega 9023 or similar telescoping controllers may seem like the only way to go, you can really use any bluetooth controller as long as you have a way of propping it up. Hell, you don't even need bluetooth - if the tablet supports USB OTG (and most should), you can hook up a wired controller, and those could be even cheaper. Of course then you have to buy a USB OTG cable, around $5.

You could afford a used Amazon Fire tablet for around $28, leaving you $20 for a controller. That's enough for this full-sized Matricom controller. Then you'd just have to figure out a way to prop up your tablet. If you are able to put an inclined flat surface on your lap (or your knees, if you are able to raise them), you can rest the tablet there.

Kindle apps are available for Windows, Android, and Apple. Note that the Apple apps do not let you buy anything because Apple demanded they get a cut.

You can also read it online here: https://read.amazon.com/

If you really really want to print it, your option would be to read it in your browser and use an app such as Greenshot to take screenshots and print them out.

As a side note, the cheapest Kindle out right now for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals is $33, and for newer Kindle devices, they're letting you finance them over 5 months with no interest.

My kids big wish are an Amazon kindle fire. My daughter is six and my son is 8 and my daughter is just getting into reading for herself. My son reads every night. These would be amazing and I would die if my kids got them.

Fire, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB - Includes Special Offers, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_XWxEwb0RZ47BB

I am a single mother. I don't have a job. Had to quit because transportation wasn't possible. Couldn't afford insurance. So now I just rely on child support (which never comes) and try to do what's best for my kids. My son is 8 and he's amazing. He's considerate and calm and kind and patient. My daughter is 6 and she's amazing. She's wild and crazy and outgoing and full of energy. Never quits. They both balance each other out.

Thank you for the offer!

Amazon has the least expensive Kindle Fire for $50. http://www.amazon.com/Fire-Display-Wi-Fi-GB-Special/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ That's about as cheap as you can get a reliable tablet for.

u/blackesthearted · 2 pointsr/kindle

> Also there was nothing on the box or in the instructions about ads which is slightly misleading

If you bought it from Amazon directly, it's in the title: Fire, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB - Includes Special Offers, Black, the "special offers" being ads. You can remove them by going to the "Manage Your Content and Devices" section (how to get there may vary by regional site, I'm not sure), clicking "Your Devices", highlighting the Fire, and looking for "Special Offers: Subscribed." Removing ads is $15 on the Fire (though there are "other" ways to remove them, apparently).

As for charging, that I can't help with I'm afraid; mine charges normally. Have you tried changing your USB cable or charger, or turning airplane mode on (which will speed up charging)?

Android apps can be side-loaded, though ones that require Google Play services (like Snapchat) won't run properly. The good news is that one can install Google Play store/services to the Fire in 5-10 minutes (after which you can install apps directly through the Play Store): /r/kindlefire/ should have more info on that.

Asus Zenpad S 8 Z580 C

Its a 4:3 tablet which means more screen real estate. It battery is OK. It has a great display.

Plus, it is super light (which is far more important than you might think).

It only has 2GB of RAM. This is actually more than a lot of tablets in this price range, but if you're reading large graphically-intensive or many-layered PDFs you may notice a small amount of lag when paging. Nothing major, just a fraction of a second. It doesn't really become apparent until you compare it against an iPad or a MS Surface. But those tablet cost three or four times what you pay for the Zenpad.

The only major criticism of the Zenpad line is from people that don't like that Asus put a custom skin on the UI and loaded it up with bloatware. Its actually not that big a deal. The bloatware can be removed, and you can re-skin the UI with Nova Launcher.

u/OODroid · 2 pointsr/tablets

The Asus Zenpad S8 looks quite good. It's got an 8 inch retina screen which looks gorgeous, it's perfectly competent in terms of specs, and you've got it for 180 bucks which gives you some breathing room for a cover or something. Plus, it's Prime-enabled.

u/construktz · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If Photography is a serious thing for you, then you've already gone down the right avenue with the MS Surface Pro 4.

I just bought one personally, and you aren't going to beat the portability or display quality with anything else in your price range. The display is truly beautiful, and the pen is extremely handy, especially if you want to take handwritten notes and sketch.

u/Feisar2003 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If you really want a stylus and tablet mode then the:

Surface Pro 4 + Type Cover $1299 + $129.99 = $1428.99

or

Surface Book $1,457 are the best for you with their great portability, decent processing power, excellent screens and useful touchscreens/styluses. The Surface Book is probably the best out of the two.

If you can forgo these things, the much more powerful:

ASUS Zenbook Pro UX501VW $1499 has a 4K screen, an extremely powerful processor, a 512GB SSD and a dedicated GPU if you ever change your mind about gaming. It seems this one of the computers with the display problems listed in the sidebar.

Dell XPS 13 Has a 3200x1800 touchscreen, ultrabook portability, and decent power.

I'm a recently retired engineer in the same position looking for a new laptop to support my own photography while out traveling. I have been looking at the Dell Ultrabook XPS series and have come very close to ordering, when my son (also an engineer) ordered one for himself. He sent it back after 2 days with screen problems, and is now back to looking again.

One of the things I do, is to pull up the customer reviews on Amazon. For the Dell Ultrabook XPS, I'm finding that the reviews are bi-modal - which is to say a large cluster at 5 star and another cluster at 1 star. Either it arrives and you love it, or it has problems and you wind up sending it back - some folks get a replacement and start all over with problems. So, here is an example of what I am referring to .... The experience is going to vary with the model, but there seems to be a trend.

u/ikhezu · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Maybe this configuration of the Surface Pro 4. Remember to get the surface type cover and pen that go along with it. They are sold separately.

u/StupidMadeUpName · 2 pointsr/tablets

I agree with a Surface. I am not sure for Android tablets, but Drawboard PDF is available on Windows and is fantastic. I speak from experience, as just about every college professor I've had posts their lecture slides online as a PDF. My Pro 4 has been a great device. I'd suggest looking into Drawboard if you haven't already to see if it fits your demands.

Additionally, although an Android based tablet would be cheaper, having access to desktop versions of Office apps and compatibility with other applications you might need for class is great.

You don't have to get a Pro 4. But I'd suggest a Windows tablet computer with a stylus. I'd also highly suggest getting a typecover/keyboard folio. That way, your device is a tablet when convenient and a full laptop when you need it.

The technology is somewhat similar to an Ipad, although it is not capacitive touch. Tell them its a digital art tablet with pen pressure, like a Microsoft surface tablet(Its the same technology as that).

You should ask repair shops that typically do tablets and if possible just "General electronic" repair shops.

Its gonna be a gamble if they know about the tech or not, these guys tend to REALLY know their stuff, so i will certainly bet there is no way they could confuse the technology.

I would suggest making sure there is some sort of guarantee that states something along the lines of "Hey, if we screw up your device we'll refund you" but to be honest, you may have trouble finding such a place.

If they are unfamiliar, they will tell you. If they have questions, you can tell them "Its a monitor for a normal PC, but this screen is a touchscreen with a pen. It has pressure sensitivity."

If its also touchscreen, tell them its capacitive touch like a phone, but ALSO has the pen that uses non capacative tech.

But as a TLDR for them, just tell them its like a microsoft surface pro 4 but it has to be hooked up to a computer.

  • Manga

  • Anime (stored on 16gb MicroSD I added - I also use the CrunchyRoll app as I am a member)

  • Japanese Video Games (I use GBA, SNES, etc emulators and download JP roms - the PS3 controller actually works too if you plug it in via USB! Though you have to have the docking station to plug it in)

  • Anki / Websites for studying (like iKnow.jp, Memrise, etc)

  • PDF's or Kindle books

  • Listening to JP music

  • Skype - Can text, voice, or webcam chat to JP friends

  • Lastly, general browsing of JP websites

The Google Nexus page doesn't really integrate Amazon with their own, it's literally just a hardcoded link to the site with some callbacks (think of that as them notifying themselves when somebody browses from google.com/nexus to amazon.com/Google-Nexus....):

CPU is non overclockable but you could get the K edition and upgrade to a Z97 motherboard if you want to overclock.

Solid State drive for your OS and a few of your favorite games. This will make sure load times are as short as possible. A 1TB HDD for whatever you want to store.

Video card is great.

Went for a small case so you can tuck it away in a corner somewhere.

Power Supply is gold certified so it isn't a huge electricity waster (importance will be obvious in a second).

An ASUS Zenpad S8, $198. (I personally have one of these, and recommend it): https://www.amazon.com/Asus-Zenpad-Z580C-B1-BK-inches-Tablet/dp/B011TVF5QC

And the amazon fire tablets aren't bad, as long as you avoid the ones with sponsored offers. You can easily get one under $200 for that. Weigh the benefits, though.

Check out the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70. It is a 10-inch tablet that sells for around $180. The screen is 1920x1200 with 224 ppi, which is much sharper than most tablets at that price. I bought one on Black Friday and I really like it. It came with KitKat, but I already got the update to Lollipop.

If you look at the amazon website, posted here for convenience, the battery life of the 7" is optimistically rated at 7 hours, so I don't suppose 6 is unusual depending on what its doing. Its one of the reasons I upgraded to the HD 8, which has an estimate of 12 hours.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ref=nav_shopall_1_k_ods_tab_fd

P.S. I've typed this a lot, but I'll type it again. Be sure to reboot your device, maybe at the beginning of the day to check its battery life. Sometimes a badly written app will sit in the background consuming CPU cycles, and thereby your battery. A reboot will often end some of these services/apps. And, putting it to sleep is not rebooting it. Hold the power button down for a couple seconds, and acknowledge that you want to really shutdown, and then start it up again.

It was going to cost the same amount to print the booklet as it was to print all of the components on their best card stock in full color.

Personally, I would look at buying a cheap color tablet and using that. There's a 7" Fire that you can get for $40 of you have Prime, though it says "with special offers". That's about what I was quoted for the booklet.

That $700 might go up to $750. Iphones are massively inflated and the actual manufacture is only a fraction of the cost.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ref=fs_ods_fs_tab_fd
That tablet has about the same amount of components as an iPhone. While the iPhone has much stricter QC and better performance, the cost of manufacture is still likely sub $100.

In fact, most of the cost is in the components, not the actual manufacturing. Now, the cost would go up more if all components were made in not-china, but it would still be a far less than $2000.

u/got_lost_again · 1 pointr/techsupport

Not an expert, but it looks like half the screen is damaged and not coming back from water damage. Considering how old that tablet is, and how cheap tablets are now, I wouldn't waste money trying to fix it.

There's places that will look at a tablet for you, and maybe fix it, but you don't know what their service fees are. Maybe it's $50? $50 is probably more than that tablet currently costs... not to mention whatever the parts cost as well

Alright then. Brand-spanking new, 2015 Kindle Fire - $49.99, and that sucker has two cameras, kindle software and access to unlimited Kindle cloud storage, etc. etc. And again, that's retail.

Want to go cheaper? RCA 7" Tablet $39.99, retail.

Could they afford it? Absolutely! If they can afford to print weekly bulletins, and to buy prayer books, hymnals, and possibly even pew bibles, then they can afford the tablets. I'm also not banning the printed books; if this still isn't feasible for your congregation in 2015, then no worries. Let's see where you are in 2020.

> Tablets are more delicate than books

I don't think this is true anymore. A Kindle with even a little bit of a protective covering is nigh indestructible. I also don't think that people are as callous with other's belongings as you think, but that's just my naive optimism talking. Suffice it to say that my parish has a sense of shared ownership when it comes to church property and we treat it with respect.

u/Nooberbooberx · 1 pointr/tablets

The Kindle Fire is a good option for $50. You can get that game on their store, or do some tricks to get access to the google store.

u/MsRocky · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This kindle is something I've been wanting lately. I've been trying to read more since school kind of ruined it for me (I was the typical girl who didn't care for school and all that stuff), but its weird that lately I've been wanting to read a lot. Its like I've been missing weird stories and I don't want to just watch TV all the time, you know? But a lot of people I've talked to had said this is good for when you are constantly on the go, which I have been lately.

But other than the kindle, the one thing I want supersupersuper bad is to give back to everyone on here. (cheesy right? Trust me, I know but its 1000% honest) My family and I have been having one of the worst years that I can ever remember, and people on reddit helped us a lot when it came to help make Christmas good for my nieces, so my main goal is to give back and help anyone and everyone I can. Everyone on here has been so nice, and big-hearted and I want to try to make anyones day that I can just a little bit better anyway I can. Whether that's with little cards/letters in the mail, or little things that they want/need and can't get it themselves.

You are really an amazing person for doing this<3

u/The---Technician · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

For the features you are looking for , especially that pen input, the Surface Pro would be the best choice for you. In your budget, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 would be a nice pick which would certainly do the job for you. It has a nice i5 processor, a decent 256 GB SSD, great 8 GB RAM etc...It also has an excellent screen quality with an awesome pen feature that will allow your to take written notes brilliantly. It also is very portable, has a nice battery life and based on it's power, will be able to run Hearthstone and other similar games as well as those medical software you have.

u/m3ghost · 1 pointr/Surface

$1500 may have been the MSRP for a 8GB/256GB version, but I believe the price has come down quite a bit. Amazon is currently offering that SKU for ~$1000 (without keyboard).

u/Kristosh · 1 pointr/Surface

I'd go with a refurbished model direct from Microsoft

They come with the 1 year manufacturers warranty and are generally in new condition.

Otherwise, your only other option for new is retailers like Amazon

None of these include the keyboard which is another $100-$150.

Used machines can include the keyboard and other accessories for well under these prices but their condition is always questionable.

u/that7deezguy · 1 pointr/AskTechnology

imho if I'm throwing down on a MacBook Pro, I'm getting one with at least more than 3.0Ghz CPU. If the Surface Pro 4 that you're looking at is the one that has 8GB of RAM and a 3.0Ghz CPU rating for $1299, I would get that one over the MacBook.

But if the CPU of the Surface you're looking at is essentially identical to that 2.7Ghz, I personally would either get the 128GB version of the Surface for $799, or take a look for an entirely different computer deal altogether.

u/theoruss · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

If you know you'll take advantage of using it for what it was designed for, you'll love it, and it'll be worth the investment. I had one for about a year when i was working under Intel and fell in love with the machine. The portability of it is ridiculous, id easily tell you how many compliments i would get or just curious people asking me how i was running windows on that thing LMAO. The note taking is really nice, i use the Office suite, and Onenote is amazing to use, being able to hand-write notes, then convert them to actual text is crazy, it even does math for you!Honestly you'll have fun and love the machine, although if you were maybe looking so spoil yourself with something else and save on the laptop then get something cheaper, but the Surface is an awesome device to use nonchalantly inserts link to Surface Pro 4..

A Microsoft Surface Pro 4 might be an option. You can get one of those with the type cover for under a grand if you look around. Very portable, and ideal for mail and web surfing on the couch (not that it has any problems running Office, videos etc either).

It's a tablet, but with the type cover it becomes essentially a very nice 12 inch laptop. They run the full normal Windows 10.

You can even buy a Surface Dock for it and plug keyboard, mouse and up to two monitors into that and have a great desktop work PC just by plugging in the combined charging/docking cable.

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-Intel-Core/dp/B01606KJ6C (without the type cover, I would presume, that's another $100-something.)

They throw in the pen for it, and since you can get Onenote for free you can even write notes longhand on it, and draw etc. There's a reason they sell well.

It all depends on size. Most tablets are used for reading, videos/movies, possibly gaming, and mostly are used as multimedia devices. The normal goal with a tablet is to deliver a solid display and enough horsepower to keep things going smoothly at that resolution. All of the next mentioned tablets fit this bill. Suggestions-

Like others have said, the N7 2013 is a bit long in the tooth, and probably won't get updated to Android N. You might want to wait it out, and pick up a deal on the N7 2013, on Swappa, while you wait to see what the holidays brings towards the end of the year in the way of deals, and new hardware releases. The NVIDIA Shield K1 $199 on Amazon is pretty good if you don't want to wait.

It just received a good update.
> SHIELD Tablet K1 now meets Android 6.0 Professional Audio requirements, including:
Low Latency Audio (<20ms continuous round trip)
USB Host & Peripheral modes
24-bit@192kHz Stereo & 7.1 HDMI output
MIDI support over USB & Bluetooth LE

NVIDIA has been doing a good job at releasing updates.

What size would you like and what's your budget? To be honest, there hasn't been much Android tablets coming out since larger phones ate up a lot of tablet sales.

I prefer the 7ish inch size and went with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A. I really like the 4:3 aspect ratio since I'm using it mostly for reading ebooks and PDFs which are better suited for that over 16X9 screens.

The iPad Mini was my second choice but turned it down since I use an iPhone and I like to use opposing OSes for phone and tablet. However, iPads are updated more often and tend to be supported longer than most android tablets. That being said, I did get an update on my Galaxy Tab A just the other day.

At the moment there is a sale on Kindle Fire for $50 and that's very difficult to say no to, especially for basic needs. A little know how and you can install the Google Play Store and have an overall nice tablet for the cheap

I have an Ematic 8" tablet that I picked up from Sears a few months ago for ~$30 after deals/discounts/points/etc. It runns pretty slowly but it doesn't crash very often.

Here it is at a very bad price: http://www.sears.com/ematic-8-8221-intel-quad-core-tablet-with-32gb/p-00352554000P?sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

I just picked up the 2016 NuVision 8" tablet from Amazon. I grabed a Used/Like new version for ~$50. It runs so much better, almost as smooth as my laptop. I think it's saving grace is that it has 2GB of RAM whereas the Ematic only has 1GB and EarnHoney/Flash are so memory intensive.

I'd hold out for the next gen tablets that'll be on sale for black Friday. Until then, you can buy a used N7 (2013) for like $90 to hold you over.

Due to different taxes in France my choices are between the Asus Zenpad 3S 10 (Asus Z500M) and the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus, both are at 320€~ here in France.

Both of them have pros and cons but I'm not sure if I am in the right or if there is something else better than both of them for my use. I have poor knowledge of phone/tablet environment.

u/tossin · 1 pointr/Android

I'm looking for a decent 10-inch tablet, either Android or Windows 10, mostly for the usual stuff: reading (books, academic papers, comics, manga), browsing, and watching videos. The best budget deal seems to be the ASUS Zenbook 3S 10. However, it has a worrying number of 1 star reviews from verified purchasers (12%) indicating near-DOA malfunctions. Also, it doesn't seem like ASUS is updating from Android 6 anytime soon.

I'm also tempted to spring for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3, but it's got less RAM and disk space for over twice the price.

Any suggestions?

ASUS Zenpad Z500M seems like a better value right now unless you really want the updates quick or want a smaller form factor. I have one coming tomorrow and I'll be happy as long as it gets firmware updates eventually. You get a lot more for just $99.

From my experience, get a 720p tablet if sub $200. Most of these tablets have 2GB RAM and higher resolution and low memory just does not mix well. That said, the x5 and x7 Atoms handle graphics better than the older atoms. But if you want to run native games on it besides streaming, the lower the resolution the better.

Second note: Intel Atoms are not that great, but there are a few great ones. If the Atom CPU model starts with x7 or x5 it is most likely better than a Z series Atom. The x5/x7 Atom will have better battery life, faster video chipset.

Nuvision has an 8 inch tablet that will run just fine.

I have used the Nexus 9 since release. I have seen many people complained of various issues but I personally never had any. I love the tablet and have been having a hard time finding a replacement but it's hard to deny that it's rather slow. I use it almost strictly to stream videos from various apps and it does that perfectly fine.

I have never used a Tab S2 so I can't say much about it.

I would recommend looking into Huawei Mediapad M3 Lite and Lenovo Tab 4. I haven't used either but they are newer than the Nexus 9 and Tab S2 so I assume they are faster and their prices are comparable. But if you plan on streaming from Netflix be sure your device can actually stream in HD.

It's a joke but I guess I'll have to explain the joke. People praise the Switch for bringing "AAA" or "console quality" games to handhelds when handheld versions of home consoles even PC have been around since the Game Gear and Turbo Express/PC Engine GT. The Game Gear, Nomad, and Turbo Express were all portable versions of the Master System, Genesis (it could not play MD games) and Turbo Grafix 16/PC Engine respectively. The Nomad and PSP 2000/3000/Go, and Nvidia Shield Portable all have video outs and the PS Vita TV can easily have a custom wist added to it to make all Vita games playable. The PSP, Vita, and 3DS/ New 3DS also all had decent serviceable ports of AAA budgeted games that were only available on PC/Console. They also all have their own AAA games. Most of the games that would have been exclusive for Vita would later be remastered for PS4 even. So they idea of the Switch being original is bunk.

You mean something like the GPD Win 2? It's a tiny Windows 10 computer that's basically intended for gaming.

https://www.amazon.com/Handheld-Portable-Gameplayer-Notebook-Graphics/dp/B07CK7DRYS

It can even play stuff like Overwatch locally at 60 FPS. No streaming required. A novelty to be sure, but a really neat piece of tech, and would be perfect for Stadia. The major downside is the price. You can get a very powerful desktop for the same price as the GPD Win 2's base model. Hell, you can even buy a pretty decent laptop for that price. So you're really just paying for the portability and 'wow' factor.

Honestly the iPad mini doesn't have a very good screen. The colors are noticeably less vibrant than the other retina iPads (3,4,Air). I noticed it at an Apple store, my wife didn't seem to care but for me it was quite annoying as I'm a color freak designer. I turns out I was right about the inferior screen.

If you want iOS I'd say get and iPad Air, or maybe wait to see if Apple announces a new mini.

If you can't afford it and are ok with Android, for 300$ you can get an Nvidia Shield Tablet, which is one of the most powerful tablets, even more than the iPad Air.

If you don't need much power, for about 200$ you should be able to find a 2013 Nexus 6 tablet, which is still a great tablet for regular use and has an amazing screen.

u/5i1v3r · 0 pointsr/kindle

The Oasis strikes me as a misunderstood concept by Amazon. The idea of having the weight balance be in the palm of the reader makes sense. The problem is that the Oasis ruins this form of ergonomics by pretty much necessitating the battery cover, which turns the device into another Voyager with slightly more battery.

Also, at $300, the price is insane. Nvidia makes the Shield KI at the same price as the Oasis. Infinitely more functionality, except for the display type. Unless your arms are made of straw and you read more than 24 hours a day and can't charge during that time and you desperately need physical buttons, get a Paperwhite. You'll save $200 and get the same experience.

Shortened Amazon links typically go through amzn.to, not areyouhappyat.work. They're also longer than the minimum form of an Amazon link, which compresses down to this.

Don't bother sending me the direct ones, I don't particularly care about them. Just wanted to give you a heads-up that your website isn't working, and maybe you should stop using it. Even when it was working a few weeks back, I remember it taking 10-15 seconds to actually send the redirection. Poor user experience, and most people don't bother to give a page more than a few seconds to load.

The Amazon Kindle Fire 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB is on sale now at $ 39.99

I've bought mine when it first came out last year at $ 50 and bought another one for my Mom at $ 35 during the Black Friday Sale.

For reviews check out Youtube, there are plenty of positive reviews for this budget Amazon tablet.

But for my Mom's user review.

Performance wise. It does Skype and FB Messenger really well. Plus all of her favorite mobile versions of the FB games she frequently plays. Battery wise it can last her 2 days on standby (Skype, Messenger online) with non-heavy use.

For sound the built in mono-speakers is pretty average. The built in mic is good enough for Skype and Messenger calls. But if your going to do a lot of Skype calls. I suggest you get at least wired headphones for better conversation. Although a bluetooth headset would be a great option.

CONS My Mom is a senior citizen and the 7" tablet is too small for eyes. This is why she still prefers to play her FB games on a 20-inch iMac or PC with a mouse. She also finds it difficult to type using the on screen keyboard since they buttons looks small.

u/PeteSampras_MMO · 0 pointsr/starcitizen

If i had $200 and I wanted true HOTAS. I would probably do dual TM16000 (~$90), 2 Kindle Fire (~$100) and root android on there and use ROCCAT power grid/whatever SC devs make since they said they are officially supporting tablets as a stretch goal, and 2 tablet mounts. Or maybe consider the MFDs. either option would allow you to basically never use keyboard except to type.

I ordered the N9 white (32gb) last week from Amazon for $460. As soon as I got it in, I saw from the serial number that it was made 10/14, during the time they were transitioning to the updated, problems reduced model. As soon as I got it, I sent it back unopened for a refund.

Then I spent $480 to buy the new "sand" model directly from google play. Everything I read said that the sand model is the newest iteration and has fixed the recessed buttons, and much of the light bleed. I can confirm that the one I received Friday has very little (unnoticeable except in pitch black) light bleed, and the buttons are recessed, but accessible. I highly recommend it.

I know that doesn't help you with coupons, but if you're ordering in the near future, I'd suggest going directly through google to make sure you get the most current model.

Save $50 more and get that. Or buy the crappy Fire tablet for $50, root it put the play store on it, and get rid of all the amazon crap, and use it for now until you can afford a nicer tablet. It runs things surprisingly well.

> I do know I don't want an LCD screen. I know that.

Why? You can get a Kindle Fire for $50. Why get just an e-reader that can't do nearly as much? With a Kindle, you have almost the entire world of Android apps at your disposal (I've side-loaded Google apps like Google Earth, etc.).

> Is there a night mode? Black site white font?

Not a night mode necessarily, but you can set it to a black background and white text, which is what I use. I exclusively do my reading on a Kindle Fire. At night I turn the brightness all the way down, and I never have trouble reading outside on the admittedly rare occasions I do, with the brightness up.

To put it in perspective, I read the entire Malazan series on my Kindle a couple of years ago over the course of about 8 months. It still keeps a charge for about 8~10 hours straight, even these four years later.

Admittedly, I have a Kindle Fire 2'nd Generation (2012), because I find the USB and power button much easier to manage than the newer models. Also I develop Android applications and use the Kindle to debug and test them.

Macbook

Surface

Twice the number of 1 star reviews, way more 2 and 3s.

I owned three. Experienced the random clicks mentioned in these reviews on all of them. Experienced random full shutdowns from OneNote. Pens disconencting and not reconnecting without a power cycle. I eventually bought a Lenovo and have had almost no issues since. More than my Macbook owning friends, but at least I could rely on my laptop to let me write notes on it every morning, unlike any of my Surfaces.

I've met one person who didn't hate theirs, but he didn't do anything with it besides use it as a regular laptop, and even he mentioned the keyboard disconnecting occasionally.

So even I told you I think that the iPad gives you the most for its cost, you would still say that their prices are ridiculous and you wouldn't pay them? That is incredibly close minded and shallow, you're obviously just hating on Apple without doing any research.
