I used this Quizlet set:
https://quizlet.com/12806448/praxis-ii-social-studies-0081-flash-cards/

Used this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Studies-Content-Knowledge-Teacher-Certification/dp/0738609552/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1493588459&sr=8-11&keywords=social+studies+praxis

And purchased the practice test from ETS. The practice test had questions on it that were nearly word-for-word on the real exam. I scored in the top 10% and got the recognition of excellence. Happy studying!

I'm about to take the praxis 2 middle levels, also. My state training thing recommended this book for studying..

I am already certified to teach English in my state, but I would like to study for (and pass) a few more certification exams. That will not only make me more desirable to hiring districts/principals, but it will also let me be a better teacher for the kids in my classroom.

Thanks for considering me!

Yes it’s an actual book! Here is the amazon link it might seem a little expensive but I knew I’d rather pay $17 now and do well than pay $100+ to have to redo a section

This is what I used for the PPR. For most people (including me) this is the harder of the two tests. The material itself isn't difficult, but the test is just... weird. The book explains it pretty well though.

The TeXes was a lot easier in my opinion. I didn't buy a study guide for that one, but I think all the materials are in Dropbox. I'll PM a link to you.

My study group also compiled a list of terms (and their definitions) between the two tests that we frequently missed in practice exams. I'll include that in the PM as well.

And no problem! If you do end up coming down, let me know!

I would suggest this. It was the only prep i used and I spent probably 10 hours studying it after being out of school for 25 years. Passed the core no problems.

edit: The reason I choose this particular one was on advice of my edu advisor who said it was the most effective book she had seen.

You might want to try this book. It helped me pass the CSET in one go.

Good for you! I work in IT/AT for a program that teaches teachers to work with students with special needs, so I know that being a teacher nowadays is a tough job & I commend you for going into the field of (special?)education.

That being said, do you still need THIS? If so, I would love to gift it to you in congratulations of your progress thus far.

I'm not sure what kind of set up Indiana has, I'm in Florida, but I suggest maybe getting the materials for the ESE teachers to help with the questions. The only thing I found when searching amazon was this: https://www.amazon.com/CliffsTestPrep-Praxis-Education-Exceptional-CliffsNotes/dp/0470238445/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1467333983&sr=8-2&keywords=indiana+teacher+certification

Good advice, my friend. Specifically, which FTCE book did you use to practice? Was it this one?

u/Teacher_of_History · 1 pointr/Teachers

I took the WEST-B back in either 2012 or 2013... I can't remember exactly.

I studied a little, but I thought it was relatively easy. I finished with plenty of time left and did quite well.

I think I used this book to study with.

I also took the WEST-E in Social Studies, History and English without studying. If you know your subjects, take your time, read the questions/answer multiple times and use strategies like eliminating two answers before guessing, you'll do alright.

I took this test last September - I had an agreement to earn for the school year.
I ordered a book, studied as much as I possibly could, and went in for the test. My degree is in zoology and I have no background in teaching. With enough studying, I passed my first try. PM me with any other questions.

This is the book I studied from

I used this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/0738611662. I took the test a couple months ago and passed it so it seemed to do the job. The online tests helped a lot too.

As everyone else said, if you have basic knowledge of all 5 of the topics you should be fine. I bought this one because I wanted a sample of the question format. Passed on my first try

I used this one, and didn't review anything else, and scored very well on my exam.

The exam was not hard at all, just make sure you review theories and know all the disability categories.
I took mine last summer.
