Considering that she's often talking about her "lovely bitter green tea" that was "so bitter you lose your tongue", and Japanese tea sets' cups look like that Evidence It's more than likely that it's tea.

Hario Chacha Kyusu Maru Tea Pot, 700ml - $15

Teaology Luna Double Wall Borosilicate Tea Cup - $3.95

I'm very much still learning, but I love this cheap little setup and it's been working especially well with my Oolongs and Greens. I picked up a sample of Pu erh Pearls from Adagio (pictured), and it works just fine for that as well if you're okay with western brewing techniques.

u/Lizzibabe · 6 pointsr/tea

Honestly, my going fu stuff I bought off Amazon and Yunnan Sourcing. I found some nice tall chunky tea cups H Mart and Lotte Plaza but gong fu stuff? Not really. I keep trying to make the time to get to Ching Ching Cha in Georgetown but it hasn't happened yet. Teaism in DC sells a nice ripe puer that I like.

u/simsoy · 5 pointsr/tea

I think it retains heat pretty well if you keep the lid on. It pours very nicely, you'll never miss or spill. And the mesh infuser is huge, it's really easy to pick up and let the tea drain so you don't over seep the tea.

Edit: You can also use this tea light warmer to keep the tea hot if you're going to take a few hours to drink the tea. It's only $10, and the teapot is $15 so you'd be spending a lot less than what you'd originally planned even with this add-on.

Tea cups like this teaology one ($3.95), or this series of Turkish cups--(or this alternative set) all would match the "all glass" look nicely.

u/awkwardsoul · 4 pointsr/tea

I figure it is this:

https://www.amazon.com/Magisso-70202-Teacup-Snow-White/dp/B005ZZ9MDG You can drink while the leaf is in. Dunno how good this cup is. Most tea sellers who carry this prefer to display teas in them.

https://www.amazon.com/Boco-Infuser-Brewer-Catcher-Brewing/dp/B00J2L6VCE is a tea brewer but is a slim profile that clips to the side of the cup. This would do in a pinch.

The unfinished outside has a really nice grippy texture that's both aesthetic and practical. Would describe the black as actually closer to a dark brown. Otherwise pretty cheap and convenient if you need to order. Shipped from China packaged really well, would be genuinely surprised if it broke in transit.

I've found steeping in it to be much more convenient for me than larger brews. Normal steeping in a cup is too big and with some of my more expensive oolongs I like to get a lot of steeps which is hard with a larger cup. I'm also a baby and can't drink tea piping hot, and I feel like it's pretty easy to get that exact right temperature where it's still hot but not scalding my tongue.

So I've drank a bunch of Adagio teas over the years and was going to give my recommendations (of similar price to what you recommended), but then I started adding up the price and...Adagio is just way overpriced for what it is these days.

So here's my recommendation: go to What-Cha and buy this http://what-cha.com/intro-to-tea-collection/intro-to-tea-collection/
It's about $25, ships free anywhere in the world, and will give you 10 samples of quality tea for about what 5 samples of mediocre tea was going to cost you from Adagio once you added shipping.

To answer your other question, the Ingenuitea has no advantage over simpler vessels like a porcelain teapot or gaiwan. I had two, and honestly it's just an over-engineered solution that does that exact same thing but is harder to clean. For a beginner, the choice is pretty simple:

-If you're willing to sit down with the tea and brew multiple small cups, get a porcelain gaiwan
-If that sounds like a hassle, and you really want to just to brew a huge mug and get on with your day, either get a porcelain two-cup teapot or a porcelain mug with cover and basket infuser (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Porcelain-Tea-Mug-Infuser-White/dp/B01HEFC8SK/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1479443044&sr=8-17-spons&keywords=covered+mug+tea&psc=1)

u/EarnestWilde · 3 pointsr/tea

Two really simple ways to brew loose-leaf tea at work:

Finum's Hot Glass System, which is a double-walled glass cup with a really excellent basket strainer and drip tray. The pictures don't do it justice. I bought one for each member of my family and take mine when I need to do formal office visits.

Kamjove's press-button infusion pot. Very convenient since it's all in one, and it allows great control since you decant the infusion when it's done with the press of a button. Some people don't like that it is infusing in a plastic chamber at the top, but it's BPA-free and does not leave any plastic taste at all. Very hard to get tea stains out of the infusion filter though.

u/Swallybongo · 3 pointsr/tea

Hi, I'd go for a gaiwan to start off with, very easy to use, maintain and clean. Also much cheaper than a good teapot. Something like this would serve you well. Good choice on the What-cha sampler by the way.

u/Aznguy1 · 3 pointsr/tea

Are you looking for that glass specifically? If you're just looking for the same style it would a double walled glass tea cup/tumbler.

I think I found it.

u/idrawforbacon · 3 pointsr/tea

I got the teapot here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016RIGJVC/
It comes with the pouch and styrofoam insert for the teapot and 2 small gongfu cups.

When traveling, I usually drink alone, so I just wanted a glass the size of the teapot to avoid having a fairness pitcher.
I bought these glasses https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GG0RNX0/ that matches the pot volume, and cut out the styrofoam to make it fit.

u/Bruhah_DenimGuy · 3 pointsr/tea

I personally use these double-walled glass tea cups.

I've been using them for 5 days and are fairly affordable. Downside is that they do not retain heat as well as porcelain. These are perfect for tea for yourself or with one other person, but if you have 3 or more, I'd follow u/EarnestWilde's advice on using the small cups.

u/travelbugart · 2 pointsr/tea

I really, really like my Tea Forte KATI mugs (yes, mugS, I'm addicted) with infuser. If you don't want to buy the set, you can get the infuser or one like it separately. They filter even the finest of my teas: https://www.amazon.com/Tea-Forte-Brewing-Ceramic-Blossoms/dp/B008DVSATQ

u/Rainbowfrapp · 2 pointsr/tea

I use a tea infuser mug, similar to this

I got these on amazon and really liked them.

Teaology Luna Double Wall Borosilicate Tea/Espresso Cup https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AOA1T56/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_2q1QwbQJGA4FF

I haven't seen any small double wall glass cups with handles. The smallest I saw on Amazon after a quick look was 8oz. Good luck!

u/spunky-omelette · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I use Tea Forte Kati Cup everyday for tea at work. It kind of stinks not having a handle, but I've never had a problem with it. I love how it makes me just one cup, and it's easy to clean.

u/braden3654 · 2 pointsr/yerbamate

I'd recommend something like this on Amazon. Since it's not an actual gourd you don't have to worry about curing it, or growing mold

u/lizshady · 2 pointsr/tea

I got it from here on Amazon. Great price and comes in other colors too :)

It may be silly, but I got a new car recently. And as much as I love it. I have NOWHERE to put my phone!!! It is either sitting on my passenger seat, somewhere in a cup holder, or even on the floor. And I have been having trouble finding this cell phone mount at any stores around me!!

Thanks for the contest!!

OK so I got this one

Which is a tad bigger than the 80-100. It says 130-150 hopefully I didn't make to big of a mistake going to big? There was a big shiny banner that said "Amazon's Choice" over the top of it so I decided it was good enough for me haha!

u/domin007 · 1 pointr/tea

If you have a kettle and want an easy to manage work teacup, I'd check out this or this. The Kati's infuser is really easy to clean if you have a small trashcan nearby (just put a grocery bag inside) and although they're a bit pricy, you'll save money by being able to use loose-leaf tea. The Forlife is a bit harder to clean but is still doable.

However if that still doesn't work, Twinnings has a good range of flavored black teas. I also would check out Harney and Sons. A little bit more pricy, but totally worth it. I've had Paris, Florence and a red raspberry tea and all three have been nice.

u/SanRenei · 1 pointr/tea

For making single cups, I use the
Tea Forte KATI Tea Brewing System.

I really like it. We have a Keurig at work, so I use that to fill it with hot water (the large-cup setting is the perfect size for this mug).

u/harrycontrary · 1 pointr/tea

It looks like one of these but I don't see it in black anywhere...

$0-5 Adorable Cupcake Magnet Just look at this magnet, it's adorable.

$5-10 The Body Shop Chocomania Shower Cream Chocolate and bubble bath, two of my favorite things together, very relaxing!

$10-20 Maneki Neko Tea Cup WHITE - Japanese Lucky Cat Tea Cup Is it a lucky cat? Is it a tea cup? It's both :D

$20-50 Pink Fuzzy Bear Paw Animal Slippers for Women and Men Every time I see these, they put a smile on my face. I keep taking them off my wishlist because they're so impractical, but then they go right back on a day later, haha.

u/purebredginger · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Congrats! Omg that is amazing!

Do traveling mugs count? I usually take them to class and work with me, so I would consider it a supply. Caffeine is def a need lol I really like this one.

One of the most important lessons I have learned is if you want something done, you have to get it done. Life does not wait for you. Pretty soon you'll look up and time has passed you by and instead of being done and relaxing, you're scrambling to finish it. So don't do procrastinate!

I was schooled.

  1. I think adagio has some pretty great prices for basic teas. just find one you like and go for it

  2. try looking on amazon. They have some really nice pots with built in infusers. I know Ocean State Job lot has some cast iron ones with infuser baskets. My friend just picked one up for less than $20

  3. What i do at work is that i buy some samples from adagio (they reseal and it isn't a LOT of tea) I also just bought this for my desk.

Happy early Birthday! I'm starting my first big girl job in June, in an office an everything. I drink A LOT of loose leaf tea, and I have my eye on this mug to be my office mug. It has a built in strainer! And look how pretty it looks! It'll be something comforting in the new environment, and a great conversation starter!

But seriously. Really, on a Monday?

u/PrinzessinKirara · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Happy Early Birthday! <3

Tea :)

u/meeme109 · 1 pointr/tea

I have these. When I'm holding them, even if there's scalding hot tea in them, I don't feel it at all. They're a little under 3 ounces so it's not quite as big as you want, but they're a good size for me. I honestly don't like the insulation of them that much. I find I miss the warmth of other cups when I'm using them.

u/Fr0glips · 1 pointr/tea

I'm looking to buy my first gaiwan, I've called two Asian stores here in South Florida USA and they don't carry gaiwan. I found a Gaiwan on Amazon and I like the price. Does it look like a good buy as a first gaiwan?

edit: corrected spelling

edit2: I ended up buying this gaiwan instead because it had Amazon Prime shipping while the first gaiwan shipped from China and took about a month to arrive.

u/SophieBulsara · 1 pointr/TopSecretRecipes

Tea bags are more convenient and easier to find. Stick with it if you’re doing small portions.

For large gallon size portions, Brewing requires 1) a strainer - metal ,cheesecloth . 2) Pot for brewing, preferably monitor the temperature. like this one 3) A container for steeping (letting the flavor out of the herbs).

u/freecain · 1 pointr/tea

Instead of using disposable cups (which could impart taste) - consider getting cheap tasting cups
If you do tastings in order of lighter to stronger flavor, and don't use flavored teas, the tasters could re-use their cup. Provide a bucket to dump if they won't finish the cup, and a pitcher of water to rinse if needed (probably won't be though).
Assuming 6 tasters at a time, you would only need 2 or 3 sets to keep things moving. Next, get three medium sized food grade containers. One would need warm soapy water (add from kettle as it cools). One would be clean water to rinse the soap off. The third would be a no rinse sanitizing solution. A small rack for drying them at the end. This is how some bars deal with this. Bonus - if you want to do tasting at work, you would have this whole set up ready to go.

u/YatraTeaCo · 1 pointr/tea

Tight on cash + new to tea = samplers.

Low cost investment to get a variety of tea in limited quantity for you to experiment. It is easy to recommend teas that I like, but ultimately they need to please your palate. One way to find out what suits your taste profile is to sample.

No need to spend a fortune on equipment. A finum basket or a Kamjove tea maker (like this one) is all you need to steep tea. Next figure out how you want to measure the temperature of water. I would recommend variable temp kettles, but you can get away with a cheap immersion thermometer. A pocket digital scale to weigh out dry leaf is also nice to have. Basically you can get all the equipment you need for $50 or less, unless you opt for a kettle.

So save your money to buy tea in sample sizes. Soon you will figure out what profiles appeal to you. Then judiciously spend your money on larger quantities of tea.

u/Wishful-Thought · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Lightsaber Lamp or chopsticks are pretty cool. This apron, this thermos, these playing cards, this bottle opener, and this ice cube tray are also pretty sweet!

There's a variety of cat tote bags but I personally love this one or this one. I also love these coasters, this plush, this game, this cup, and these magnets.

This camping first aid kit looks super useful, as does this multitool, and you can never have too many torches. An inflatable pillow, or a funky backpack cover might be cool too.

I'm not great at looking for stuff for kids yet, so I can't really cover that aspect, but I hope you like some of these suggestions!

u/irritable_sophist · 1 pointr/tea

Too much vertical clearance between the basket and the bottom of the mug. You need to have the basket actually sitting on the bottom of the mug if possible. When I did this I had a red Chatsford infuser like the one here used with an oversized coffee mug.

[EDIT] This would be a better use of your $$ if you really want to try small-pot brewing.

I use this one every day: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ZZ9MDG/

Yes, it's made out of plastic, but it's no plastic bag that dissolves into your water.
