I'm trying to decide between 3 work bags. I start my first grown-up job in May. I'll be a management consultant in Manhattan but will be traveling a lot, maybe like 80% of the time. I'll likely use the bag for daily work use and carry on for flights.

Option 1: Lo and Sons TT

Option 2: Kate Spade Cove Street Airel

Option 3: Knomo Picton Leather Zip Tote

I'm leaning toward the TT because it seems better for travel, but I'm also concerned that working with a big firm in NY people will be very brand-conscious so maybe I should get a more trendy brand. I've also heard that I should get a work bag made of leather, and the TT is nylon. Any suggestions?

I'm also open to other recommendations as long as it's black, can fit a laptop, and in a similar price range!

I've been using the Kate Spade Cobble Hill Devin daily for about a year and a half. I got it 50% off final sale from KS directly and I looove it

u/evrtgurnot · 6 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Thank you so much! I've tried to minimize shopping/wardrobe over the years and it does help me focus on fit/materials and finding personal style. And yes, the pants def need hemming—I've been putting it off...

I couldn't find it on Etsy anymore but here it is on Amazon. These are a traditional handcraft bag made in Asia so they're really cheap, but if you prefer the brandname, here is the Cult Gaia one.

I just ordered this bag, hoping it will finally be my "grown up/take to work every day" bag.

I've been mistaken for a student several times in the past few months (I work for a university) so I'm trying to up my outfit/accessory game - less sneakers and messenger bags, more boots and satchels.

Girl, invest in something like this 1, 2 & 3 and you will be set. I'm a born and raised NYC lady and this is THE go to bag for stylish women with things to do. Next time you're on the subway, see if you spot any. Guarantee you do. Any brand you prefer, i think literally every company has made at least one bag like this. Make sure its good leather and it should hold everything you need, no matter how heavy. I merchandise between stores and i was able to take everything i needed with me on the daily.

If you're willing to spend the extra cash ($70), there's this and this

But within the $50 budget, there's this (the four pieces are included)

Good luck on finding a bag! :)

Of course! Here’s a link to my favorite that I actually had for over a year until the strap broke two or three months ago (and it came with the wallet!):

I bought this MK satchel for work a couple of years ago and I carry it everyday. It's lasted and held up better than my Kate Spade Wellesley Rachelle bag

This one is very cute but the size might be the deal breaker.

This one looks like it has more space but is kinda just a "one huge pocket" type. Still a good looking handbag.

This one has more pockets on the inside than the other one mentioned above,is black and cute with a long strap.

This one has a more structured body. Better looking pockets that are separated/all throughout the middle. Detachable strap + smaller handles.

This one is bigger but has no large strap. The two handles should be able to be put on a shoulder. Lots more space + pockets.

I might add more links, just wanted to post a comment with a few recommendations!

Edit: more links!

This one is like half structured and half baggy. No big strap but possibly large enough straps to go over a shoulder. Even though it's semi floppy I think it would be easy to keep organized and is big enough for many items + has smaller pockets.

This one is very cute but sadly doesn't come in black. I think this brown "coffee" color could still go with many outfits. The outside is aesthetically pleasing to look at, the inside has many pockets and a lot of space for usual purse items.

This one is very stylish, structured with a big strap + smaller handles. Not much going on inside but if you are looking for a big purse with a big main pocket then this is probably the best one. You can unzip the sides for a little extra room and it appears to have little metal feet on the four corners so standing it up beside a desk would work out.

Edit 2: one more

This one is plain but fashionable. Multiple pockets inside, structured. No large strap but large handles.

I can just fit my phone, kindle, meter, wallet, glucose tabs, and keys in this, but its a tight fit: http://www.amazon.com/Loungefly-Dome-Bag-Handle-Multi/dp/B0142SRX32/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454002542&sr=8-1&keywords=bb8+bag

I was using for a long tim e (and LOVE it) but it gets soooo heavy because I pack it full and with my bad back I needed to downsize. I still break it out sometimes, usually when I'm reading a dead tree book and need to carry it around: http://www.teekeem.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1694_1691_1643&products_id=18053&zenid=b3en33s7an3qn1du4a5a85lth4

I think you're having issues because it's spelled "Sydney" not "Sidney"
(though there do seem to be fewer options, maybe it's being phased out. Usually a good few on eBay at any given time, IME).

Hi!
This is so exciting I've been browsing bags left and right hehe I could keep going but I already had to make a decision on which ones made the cut and it wasn't easy, hope you don't mind I put more than one option. Seeing as it is your first purse you have to take into consideration what size fits your needs better and the design has to be somewhat easy to dress up or down so you don't have to move things around.
Anne Klein makes pretty good purses, I've owned a few and they are simple in design, stylish and good sized. This is one model I've owned and it takes me a bit to fill it all up, mind you whatever the size of the bag you'll always manage to get it pretty full, which can be bad for the shoulders... nevertheless space is always welcome.
https://www.amazon.com/Anne-Klein-Perfect-Tote-Medium/dp/B01HCN0ZXE/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1485650514&sr=1-3&nodeID=3421075011&keywords=anne%2Bklein%2Bhandbags&th=1
Here's another Anne Klein with a beautiful design, I feel it's a bit more modern, this one has a zipper which I recommend if you're a bit clumsy like me, it's always a relief when you drop your bag or go to a crowded not so secure place, make the thiefs work harder for your goodies. Also, it has a long strap which is always convenient, I used to hate the bags with small handles and a big strap, but then I got one and realized it's so convenient to have the option of swinging the bag cross body and the purse still looks stylish with it, doesn't compromise it at all. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MPG3P5Y/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_img?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1LVA55GNH0URO&coliid=I32T5CIH1WG6OW&th=1
This one is a bit more flashy than you'd probably consider, but it's got a mad discount, it's pretty lovely, decent brand and I bet you'd get many compliments on it: https://www.amazon.com/Calvin-Klein-Raffia-Saffiano-Chevron/dp/B01KLVREL0/ref=sr_1_68?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1485662580&sr=1-68&nodeID=15743631&refinements=p_89%3ACalvin+Klein
I saw this little thing that I think is pretty good to keep at hand just what you need, not bulky at all, pretty design and the material is easy to clean and preserve: https://www.amazon.com/Travelon-East-West-Satchel-RFID/dp/B01LDCZJ2M/ref=sr_1_297?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1485663063&sr=1-297&nodeID=2475901011&keywords=purse&refinements=p_n_feature_eighteen_browse-bin%3A14630392011

Finally, this is a perfect little thing to own for a big purse because with everything that goes in there, it gets hard to find things fast or things lose their lid and catastrophe ensues. https://www.amazon.com/HDE-Expandable-Handbag-Organizer-Handles/dp/B00JXMEUP2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1485649561&sr=8-4&keywords=bag+organizer+for+purse
I hope this is helpful, it's been fun searching for your specifics :)

Thank you so much.

Fuck, it took a while but we got here :) Now that we can move past the witty banter..

Now I really humbly ask your advice: (If you want to help of course, No pressure!)

the 12-40mm f2.8 seems to be a popular choice. However, that lens is $700 new probably $500 used? If I pick up this lens do you think I can manage with solely that one lens?

That's why you need to enter the 20th century and get past the pocket and embrace the satchel.
