Yo! Just wanted to drop you this info because I LOVED it when I found it.

Bag O Zombies!

You get 100 of them. You can find them in glow in the dark form as well.

This is also neat looking, but I haven't gotten them.

EDIT

Those look baller too.

u/WeaselOne · 33 pointsr/kotor

In 2015 Revan won a Hasbro fan poll along with Sabine Wren, as characters to be added to the toy line. The figures were eventually shipped in Fall 2016. However, the line of toys that Revan belonged to wasn't ordered by the big retailers like Walmart, Target, and Toys R Us. The reason was the figures in this box weren't tied to the movies.

It took a a while before there were scattered reports of people finding Revan in JC Penny's, Kohl's, or Best Buy.

If you want it, I just checked Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Black-Darth-Revan/dp/B01AWFKM7S

$18.99. Wow. There was a time online scalpers charged $70 for Revan.

u/DwizzleyAdams · 31 pointsr/batman

I got it on Amazon! But beware, it is much larger than you think. Definitely not a shelf item unless you have a very big space to display it!

Also there is this if you have 20$

Edit: Just a heads up. Others have noted that these are a bit larger than your typical minis and will not fit your average 1inch grid perfectly. Just something to consider.

u/Aitrus233 · 26 pointsr/gallifrey

Toymakers don't seem to care. I've compared it and Eleven's in-store, and they are perfectly identical.

Not OP, but think this is it;

Here's the link for people who want the Kirbys :)

u/KaziArmada · 21 pointsr/supersentai

And you too can own it for about 250 bucks

The fact it is A) Actually official, and B) separates into component mecha is just hilarious to me.

There is a Samus and Pit one too. It's pretty sweet.

They are $25 here on Amazon if you are interesting in purchasing them. They come in a set of 10 small vinyl figures that are perfect for your own little scenes like mine.

u/Tyebuut · 13 pointsr/Art

There are some pretty dope (and expensive) figures out there in similar style.

Samurai Vader

Storm Trooper

Boba Fett

Always tempted... but can't get myself to pull the trigger on those.

u/incapablepanda · 12 pointsr/pics

My team lead has a Samurai Storm trooper figure on his desk.

u/infinitum3d · 11 pointsr/boardgames

Ok, don't laugh too hard at me, but I got this "bucket of monsters" really cheap, and you'd be surprised at how many will work for D&D, especially if you paint them. It's 100 monsters for, like $18 bucks American.

Edit: This is a "fantasy creatures" bucket for $23.

u/noseholes1 · 9 pointsr/Kirby

I googled "Ensky Kirby stackable" and got an Amazon link I bought it from. There's a star which is about 2x2 inches and there's 10 Kirby's, each Kirby figure is about 1x1 inches.

u/MachateElasticWonder · 9 pointsr/Gunpla

This kit specifically is the RG (real grade) version of the RX 78-2.

If you’re new, I recommend the HG (high grade) revive version. https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-RX-78-2-Gundam-Revive/dp/B00WW4F8YA

This one is much easier to build AND cheaper AND the articulation is amazing. You really get the most bang for your buck on this one.

u/Runsamok · 9 pointsr/Gunpla

Boom. RX-78-2 Revive. <$11.

u/1D13 · 8 pointsr/DungeonsAndDragons

There are these bucket of figures that are great, and super cheap for how many you get.

Monsters

Skeletons

Zombies

Knights

Dragons

And so on. Super cheap. Tons of figures, less than $20 for each set.

u/kungers · 8 pointsr/StarWars

Are you in the states? Amazon has it for not too much more than I paid for it here in Japan.

I've bought a number of cheap non-D&D mini sets, like these. They're certainly not great, but sometimes you need quantity, rather than quality. They're about $0.18 USD apiece.

Get some collection like that, and go to town painting them. Make mistakes. Try stuff. It almost certainly won't be the same as painting a good plastic miniature, but you'll probably still learn from it. You may feel better approaching that fetching young lady with a brush when you're done.

(I do not work for the Big Bucket of Monsters people, and was not compensated for this post!) ;-)

These tubes of minis are probably the best value: 90-100 minis for ~$20. They can give you a good base, and then you can purchase specific minis for more important characters (PCs, important NPCs, BBEGs, etc.)

Dwarves, Elves, Wizards, Orcs, Dragons, Unicorns, Skeletons, Fairies and Centaurs

Fiends, Flesh Golems (Frankenstein), Lizardfolk/Dragonborn (Godzilla), Mummies, Cyclops, Werewolves, Vampires, Zombies, Giant Spider, Giant Moths, Sahaugin (Creature from the Black Lagoon), gravestones

How about something like this? These guys are basically like army men, but they're all monsters.

u/C_Zachero · 6 pointsr/DnD

You can find sets of minis online (example), or have each player buy their own mini, but I have a few alternative suggestions. If any of you has old legos, you can use those lego characters. Many board games have minis or "meeples" you can use too. I've seen people use soda bottle caps as well.

Congratulations! That's awesome! :D

In this moment I'm thankful for all the love in my life that at one point, I didn't think I was worthy of. I didn't believe that I was worthy of love, and that it was impossible for someone else to love me. Like that way of thinking took me to some awful places that still haunt me.

And yet, today I feel so much love. I have a wonderful boyfriend, and even though now and again we have our hiccups, we love each other equally and deeply. He's my best friend, my partner, and a person I never get sick of; in previous relationships we've both wanted space from SOs, but this time it's different. We still wake up all giddy that the other is lying there beside us, we still love to spend so much time together. On the 18th it'll have been 2 years since we first kissed, and agreed we loved each other, and started going out. That day changed my life, and if anything I love him more than I did then if that's even possible.

I have love from my family who have of course always been there but sometimes when you're going through stuff it gets hard to remember. Especially my sister. I'm so thankful for our relationship; most siblings are amicable or don't get on, but this kid is my best friend. I can't stand not seeing her every week, we mostly eat junk food and watch anime or korean drama but that's our thing! I tell her everything, I talk to her every day, and when I was deciding if I wanted to move out, she was the person I thought of most. The first time I thought of moving out, I couldn't do it because I couldn't bear the thought of leaving her.

I'm thankful for my friends. After Lewis and I got together, a lot of people from high school who I thought were my friends caused drama and didn't talk to me. But in the end I was okay, I got to know other people and now I have some of the best friends in the world.

And I'm thankful for you guys. I've some had some really tough times this year that I never expected to go through, but you were all here for me supporting me. Some of you were even here for me when it was this place that was my problem! Through it all, you guys have been here, proving that we're not just random strangers on the internet, we're a community. I care so deeply about some of the people here, and did not expect I would! I cherish them, and I love them.

All the people I've mentioned above make me who I am, and encourage me to be the best I can be. And now the girl who thought she didn't deserve love and didn't think she was strong enough to cope with life, has so much love in her life and has the support to know she can take on the world. And I'm thankful for that c:

I won't risk the international shipping if it's a bother to you, which is understandable, but I can't decide what to put as my wishlist thing! So I'll let you choose, if I have the fortune to win!, between something for Lewis, something for Dannielle (or any hama beads from the under £5 list), or anything else off the various wishlists you think is pretty cool xD <3<3

If they like Nendoroids but you're on a budget, maybe try Petite Nendoroids, you can find people selling them on My Figure Collection quite often.

http://myfigurecollection.net/sales.php?sort=date&order=desc&search=nendoroid+petit&tid=0&currency=&price_start=&price_end=&cid=0&location=&ic=-1&bc=-1&mode=list&page=list

They are smaller version of the larger nendoroids are are better for someone on a budget.

I'd avoid buying them on eBay at all costs as there are many counterfit products out there on the market.

If you can splurge a little more there are some other options, Nendoroid Link just came out and most Nendoroid lovers do like him http://www.amazon.com/Good-Smile-The-Legend-Zelda/dp/B00JL74W4I

As other's have mentioned there are many bootlegs out there in the market, if you are worried about getting a fake feel free to PM me directly and I can let you know if what you're looking at is real or not.
(I work directly for Good Smile Company, the people who make Nendoroids as their Marketing/PR person here in the US and can spot a bootleg from a mile away!)

I am not TB (obviously), but I do collect toys and have considered getting an Amiibo just so I could have a little desk Kirby- and I don't even have a WiiU. That said, it's entirely fair to disparage an Amiibo for their relatively small price to size comparison or for the quality of the plastic.

A Kirby Amiibo is $13, and a couple inches tall. By contrast, you can get a 5" plush Kirby for $12, a whole stack of Kirbies for $30, or a really nice poseable Kirby with different hats and weapons for $40. And that's just a quick search on Amazon- there's no telling what sort of deals you could get at eBay or a comic con. So, I think it's fair to say the value of Amiibos is somewhat inflated due to branding and mass production. Of course, lines that haven't been heavily merched, such as Shovel Knight or Earthbound, are significantly more valuable to collectors.

So, what does this mean? Nothing, really. I just wanted to talk about toys and look up Kirby on Amazon.

u/yamiyaiba · 5 pointsr/Gundam

Welcome to the hobby, friend! Here's a few useful tidbits of info for you.

None of the Gundam kits from the last 20 or so years need glue. That's a standard feature across pretty much every Gundam model kit. So in that regard, feel free to pick any design you like. Not all kits are created equally, but a quick search across this subreddit will help you figure out if the kit you're looking at happens to be hot garbage (and there are a few that are).

To more directly answer your question, the starter set uses an older model of the classic RX-78-02 Gundam. The Revive version is a much, much better model. You can find it here on Amazon.

A panel lining pen (or pens) are not required, but certainly make for a better final product. They're pretty cheap on their own, and generally you'll want at least grey and black, and possibly also brown. Alternatively, you can get a pack of all 3. You'll also want so basic q-tips/cotton swabs to clean up your panel looking.

You're also going to need some nippers. Nippers come in a range of types, qualities, and styles. The best nippers are single sided (that is, one side is a blade and the other is flat). These, the infamous Godhands are hands down the best nippers on the market. They're expensive as shit, but worth every penny. If you're on a medium budget, Tamiya's nippers are the next best option. There are cheaper nippers out there, but they're gonna come with significantly inferior results. That said, a lot of that can be addressed with...

A good hobby knife. You'll be just fine with a simple, cheap X-Acto knife, but there is (in my opinion) a better option. My personal favorite, the Tamiya Design Knife. It's got a slightly smaller blade, which will let you get into tighter spaces with it. It also comes with a metric crapton of replacement blades. You'll want to replace the blade every couple kits, but there's a bunch of them in there. There same container that holds the replacement blades even has a second chamber to dispose of your old blades into.

Finally, you may want some fine pointed (possibly angled) tweezers for decal application. Finger oils can screw up the adhesive on the stickers. You can pass on this starting off most likely, but you'll want to get some eventually.

TL;DR, the starter pack isn't the best option. If you're after the granddaddy Gundam, get the Revive. Otherwise, pick your favorite design. The newer the kit, the better, generally speaking. Look at the copyright date on the box cover to see. Bottom left corner.

You're going to need nippers, which can get pricey, but the cost is worth it. Start with a mediocre pair, and upgrade to the Godhands once you're committed to the hobby. You'll need a knife, too. You can cheap out on this one, but there are better options IMO.

Optionally, get tweezers, panel lining pens, and cotton swabs.

Edit: other good starter kits

HG Barbatos is a great kit. The build process for IBO models is a bit different than other gunpla, though, as they have a quasi-inner frame.

HG 00 Gundam is another great starter. It's also the first kit I ever panel lined, and it was a great starter for that.

If you're wanting a Zaku, the HG The Origin Zaku II Type C is probably the best Zaku kit released to date in 1/144 scale.

Finally, I'd feel bad for not suggesting my all time favorite HG build. It was just a fun, fun kit to make and to pose. The HG 1.5 Gundam. It's got some really cool gimmicks and, unique colors, and an awesome design.

You say he doesn't have a Wii U - does he have a 3DS? If so, those can use amiibo too. Even if it's the original and not the New 3DS, he could still use the amiibo adapter and the current cheapest Mario amiibo on Amazon.

You could also go for the SH Figuarts Mario or the Mario Nendoroid if you wanna go the figurine route.

  1. Reaper Bones ($3-$40) Good detail, relatively cheap price, always unpainted. Softer plastic that can have problems with deformation. Some classic D&D monsters (like beholders) cannot be found.
  2. Wiz Kids painted minis ($15+). Whether in blind boxes or sets, you can find Wiz Kids stuff branded for D&D, Pathfinder, and D&D Attack Wing. The painting job is usually better than a novice painter, but not as good as someone with about 12+ hrs of practice at mini painting. They are rarely in single figure sets when you want to get just the right one for your wizard or whatever, and if they are then they're grossly overpriced.
  3. Pathfinder Pawns ($20-$40). A super cheap and easy alternative to regular minis. They take up way less space, but are much less flashy than plastic minis. I've found about a 60-80% crossover between the pathfinder and D&D bestiaries represented in these boxes, therefore about 20 to 40% of the pawns from any given box will not be useful because there is not visually similar D&D monster for which they can stand-in. Similarly there are a number of D&D monsters that have no visually analogous representations in Pathfinder, so you will have to find different miniature options to represent them.
  4. Wiz Kids Unpainted Minis ($5-$30). A relatively new addition to your miniatures options (previous unpainted minis were all rare limited edition ones). These have good detail (similar to Bones) but are stiffer and more durable than Bones minis (inconsistent reports indicate they may also be pre-primed). There are official designs that match the creatures and even poses of the monster manual beasties. In some cases there are figures with integrated transparent and opaque elements making it much more easy to paint that flaming hellhound or a readied fireball.
  5. Pathfinder Arena of the Planeswalkers ($15-$30) This series of board games has between 20 and 40 minis per box, usually with 3-5 of them pre-painted. Sometimes the boxes can even be found on sale shelves for really cheap ($5-10) making them the cheapest price per plastic mini you can get. The quality is lacking compared to the other plastic minis, however. They are certainly passable, but they just don't have the same minute details as other minis, even gaudily pre-painted ones. Also the bases for these are made for a 1.25" hex, so they don't fit well on a 1" grid or hex that is common in D&D tactical play.
  6. D&D Adventure System Board Games ($40-$60) These cooperative board games are great resources for DMs to pillage -- in addition to unpainted (but highly detailed) minis, each has a trove of useful dungeon tiles and various tokens that can be reused at the game table. Though some of the minis will deform in the packaging (bent outstretched swords, etc), the mold and plastic are all high quality. There are 5 sets released so far, each one containing 30-35 minis.
  7. Other Miniature board games like Descent (~$70) have minitatures that can be raided fro use with D&D.
  8. Miniatures not designed with gaming in mind... there's a lot of these out there with similarly varying quality and price.
u/Draffut_ · 4 pointsr/Gunpla

>Where is the best place to get them?

Amazon. Especially if you have Prime. For SOME kits. Obviously there can be better deals on other sites and in person, but for some kits they can be pretty good.

For instance, and although you didnt ask, my recommendation for the perfect beginer's kit - The HGUC RX-78-2 Revive

u/SanityIsOptional · 4 pointsr/Gunpla

From the new series, the Barbados and Graze both have nice kits in 1/100 NG and 1/144 HG.

If you want the original Rx-78, this is a recent HG kit of it that ought to be good.

u/snapsofnature · 4 pointsr/Gunpla

I am brand new to ball of this so I apologize for my ignorance. Just stumbled upon these and would really like to try my hand at this. Which would be a good model to start with? I kind of want to start with the original one but am open to options. I have never built any models before ever.

Also are there anything I need besides side clippers?

And if there are no hobby stores near by that sell them what are some good places online. Amazon seems to have some. Anywhere else with a bigger selection?

Thank you all in advance.

i'm doing the same! brand new DW fan this year and i've watched from "Rose" up to "Bells of St John". should be able to easily finish up before the 50th. I kinda prefer the 10th but the 11th is easier to put together a costume for.

i found an awesome suit jacket at goodwill that matches his pattern pretty closely and i've found suspenders and bowties on amazon and ebay for under 5 each but the shipping costs are equal to the price which kinda sucks.

My FLGS has bins of heroclix minis and other random crap for between 10 for a dollar and a couple bucks a piece. You could keep an eye on eBay and occasionally find decent things there, but you're probably going to be spending $100 plus (but you can get a great deal of hundreds of minis).

If you don't really care about size, quality, or color, this tube on Amazon (along with several others like it) are great deals. Drop down some nail polish so you can say "I attack the green one!" and you're golden. My group is still working off a lot of these guys.

u/PM_UR_FRUIT_GARNISH · 3 pointsr/WarhammerFantasy

Citadel paint is good, but expensive. If you're starting out and just learning, I would suggest going to a craft and art supplies store rather than a hobby shop.

Personally, I use a mismatch of Liquitex Professional for bright colors, flow aid, and matte medium, Vallejo for darker colors for details and mixing, and Citadel washes.

I'd also recommend grabbing something like this bucket of monsters to experiment on while you're learning the basics. That way, you can get a lot of reps in without breaking the bank. Green army men are a pretty solid choice, too.

u/GinsuSamurai · 3 pointsr/DnD
  • "Bones" line miniatures look great and are rather cheap compared to metal but need painting.
  • Toy stores - there are usually tubs of various animals and fantasy creatures/people that work well and come painted. Example from amazon
  • Meeples - Buddy of mine started using them and really likes it. Despite the lack of exact replication of a critter you do have easily distinguishable characters
  • Pathfinder Paws - lots of colored cardboard tokens with stands. Look decent, easy to carry, good price and though they may be for pathfinder they are just slightly different named/interpreted D&D monsters.
  • bottle tops or cardboard tokens work fine. Lots of things online that let you print tokens and you can glue them to bits of cardboard or coins.

I have crap tons of minis. TOO MANY to be honest, a couple hundred easily from the kickstarters I've backed. I also DM and really...they aren't helpful for anything other than tracking locations. When I'm really excited about one I just finished painting the biggest reaction I get is "ooo, nice job. Do I get to kill it?" so don't think that well made and painted minis are necessary. I paint them for my own enjoyment and to relax, not to make my games "better" because that doesn't happen.
u/Route66_LANparty · 3 pointsr/minipainting

Like /u/Kalranya states. Some of the paint is drying before it hit the model.

While I'm not an expert, I've now used about a dozen different color primers from Army Painter and Citadel. While heat and humidity might have something to do with it...

In the end it has everything to do with how far you are from the model. Each can is different. On the same day I could be the exact same distance away, and one can will do it, while the other won't.

Short and moving bursts at 4"-6" (much closer than the cans seem to recommend) that's how I avoid it. At that range you really need short bursts and to keep moving. Otherwise you risk the other issue with spray primers, overspray and loosing detail.

I now start with a test the back of the model. If it's a touch grainy then I get even closer. If I'm overspraying it, then I need to backup. Alternatively, when I'm doing a special character or trying a new color primer. I will prime a throw away model first to see how the can is behaving. Somrthing like this https://www.amazon.com/Monster-Action-Figure-Bucket-Frankenstein/dp/B00W5WSN5A/
Allows you to do a quick pass before your important character models. Also makes good test swatches to see what the colored primer really looks like, and test the actual colors of your base layers or shades on a primed 3d model instead of a sheet of paper/pallet.

u/Aratak · 3 pointsr/minipainting

Not D&D miniatures exactly, but really cool and fairly well-sculpted is the "Monster Action Figure Bucket" on Amazon.com. For $17.95 you get 100 figures, most of them 54mm scale and cast in a decent plastic. https://www.amazon.com/Monster-Action-Figure-Bucket-Frankenstein/dp/B00W5WSN5A/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1505817377&sr=8-14&keywords=monsters+toys There is a wolfman figure among them.

u/crazypipo · 3 pointsr/Gunpla

I'm sure most people would say RX-78-2 Revive and I agree with them.

Other kits from IBO are also great too. Quite easy to assemble, although some rely a bit too much on foil stickers.

Honestly, I think any HG should work. None of them is too complex for beginners.

u/CaptainBenza · 3 pointsr/Gunpla

One of us! One of us!

This kit has been recommended a lot to newbies since it came out. It's fairly new, well made, and simple. It's also the OG gundam, from the original series.

If you have any interest in anime or manga, the source material is great. If that's not your thing though, no worries, there are plenty of gunpla builders who've never watched the shows.

u/LoganMcOwen · 3 pointsr/Gunpla

It's amazing what you can find on Amazon Prime. From rubber bands to advanced robotics, there's a vast plethora of items that you can have dumped on your doorstep the next day, all for absolutely free - Well, not really, there's a monthly subscription fee. But anyway, is Gunpla available on Prime? Well, not much, but yeah. The cheapest of which is the old HGUC RGM-79, the original GM from Mobile Suit Gundam, which you can swipe for a little over a tenner. However, this kit is not only classic in its design, but also as a kit - This comes from 2001, just ten years after High Grade was announced. It's certainly leaps ahead of its predecessors, but how does it stack up today?

In short: Reasonably well.

There's no skipping and dancing around the fact that this is a fairly dated model. But even so, it still looks alright, if quite simplistic. But you know what? It's anime accurate in that sense - MSG didn't have the high amount of detail found in IBO or Thunderbolt's linart, nor the slick CGI of The Origin. So the RGM-79 being such a slick and simple kit is very fitting for what it is. The overall shaping is very recogniseable, seeing as this GM model was based on the original Gundam, the RX-78-9. It differs however with much blockier arms and flatter kneepads, and of course a much more robotic head with that visor. As for the colours, the minty green blends unusually well with the bright Bandai red. Not so sure about the black sticker on the tummy though, or the fact that the ankle mechanics are also minty green.

In terms of construction, the RGM-79 is very simplistic, which is evident when you see just how small the kit's box is! You get two runners of plastic parts - one in multiple colours, another in the minty green - a runner of polycaps, and one lone sticker. These parts go together relatively easily, resulting in a figure which has just enough mobility;

  • The head can rotate and tilt on a balljoint, but cannot look up and down that much at all.
  • The shoulders can rotate forward, back and out on fixed dowels attached to the back upper torso piece - No swing-out polycap.
  • There's a bicep cut, a single jointed elbow with a 90° bend, and balljoint wrists.
  • The torso can pop upwards slightly to allow for tilting from side to side. It can also swivel at the waist.
  • The side skirts and front skirt (yes, singular) can all swing out. The front skirt is quite limited, but you can get more range by popping the torso upwards.
  • There is no thigh cut, but the hip joint is a balljoint with a decent range of motion.
  • The double jointed knee provides a little over 90°.
  • The ankles are on balljoints, with a fair amount of motion in all the required directions.
  • The ankle guards can swivel up and down.
  • The shield attaches to the arm via a dowel, but has a balljoint for positioning.

Due to its simple construction, the model feels both lightweight but also very solid. While the mobility leaves a lot to be desired, it's still good enough for what this MS is - You can still attain some decent action poses if you so desire.

One surprising aspect of the construction is the head - Two parts sandwich together, with one translucent part snapped onto the front part to provide the visor and camera. This means that the head is entirely hollow! This however is fine, as it's not too obvious. The lower legs are also ridiculously simplistic, simply consisting of two parts that sandwhich around a single polycap for the knee joint. The mechanism for the waist section is interesting, although it would've been nice to get an ab-crunch of some description too. Honestly the only really disappointing thing about this kit in terms of mobility is those shoulders. While the upper arm can move about as much as you'd like it to, the shoulders themselves feel very static. But honestly that's fine, as this isn't exactly an MS you're going to be putting into zany karate poses.

One big thing I'll warn about with this kit is the beam saber - It's a toothpick. If you have a spare beam saber effect part however, you can easily mod a peg hole into the removable hilt from the GM's backpack, and give him some proper sharps.

All in all, for its time this kit is pretty nice. It looks the business, and is honestly as poseable as it needs to be. Some may find it disappointing, but as it's a cheap, massable grunt suit, you can't really knock it. I'd certainly recommend the RGM-79 for anybody looking for a simple kit to pass the time with, but if you're looking for mobility I'd go for something newer - the HG Revive RX-78-2 perhaps?

EDIT: Full disclosure - I am neither endoresed nor sponsored by Amazon. I just enjoy next-day delivery a bit too much, much to the dismay of my wallet.
u/spirals101 · 3 pointsr/Gunpla

I just finished up the HG RX-78-2 Revive and I think it's the perfect introductory build. Not too many parts and they fit together well. It was my second build and I had a lot of fun with it.

At 24 dollars its kind of a steal for such a nice model. They also have a Red and Green model too. I'm working on the red model right now and its so lovely.

u/slowrine · 2 pointsr/minipainting

Would not recommend, and would suggest testing in a small spot before doing the whole thing. I used it to prime these miniatures, and they all came out sticky and shiny. I hoped they'd go matte overnight, but they didn't. Was more trouble than it was worth.

It could have been the type of plastic, but I expected it to work because it's marketed for plastic ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Also, if you do use it, and want to take it off, a 5 minute soak in odorless mineral spirits took it right off for me.

u/oonooneoo · 2 pointsr/minipainting

Craft paints and tubes of plastic figures will do the job. SCS Direct's Wicked Duals figures would be a good choice for models. They're a good value, but not amazing quality. They definitely will need to be straightened out with a hot water bath and set into position with an ice bath too.

u/nwolowski08 · 2 pointsr/dndnext

Unfortunately they are currently sold out:

I bought 3 packs of the nicer mini's for the party to use for their characters and while it might not be perfect (the human wizard is using a human monk mini) it seems to work for everyone.

You might be able to make due with these

They are extremely cheap with mold lines all over but perfect for getting back into painting. If anyone has any tips on inexpensive minis which are perfect for practice, please let me know.

u/Manpig · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

Barbatos is a nice, cheap little kit, but if you strive for anime accuracy, you should be aware that it misses quite a few color applications and requires a little paint for that 100% anime accurate look. HG Zaku is dated, it looks a bit derpy and articulation is limited, personally, i'd recommend starting with this kit instead.

u/fxakira · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

HG: The Try Burning gundam has been recommended a lot, and for good reasons. The kit is inexpensive, the aesthetic is on point, and the articulation and range of motion does not leave you wanting more. The RX-78-2 Revive are great as well.

RG: MKII (Titans or AEUG colors, don't matter). Simple build for RG but rock solid and poses extremely well. Put a smile on you when you finish building it and the sticker decal blows it out of the park. 5/7 would build again. If RG is your thing after you tried one or two kits, the RG Unicorn is the best that this line has to offer.

MG: A lot of MGs are great to start out with. If you want something with great mechanical details and articulation, the Freedom 2.0 / Justice 2017 / Providence gundam all share that same inner frame and outstanding armor details that are difficult to beat. I have heard great things about any kits that have the Zaku 2.0 frame, and the Strike ver. RM and similar kits (Strike Rouge Ootori, I think?).

I started without watching too. Super hooked now. Please help.

My starter suggestions:

  • HG Revive RX-78-2 - This is the "Granddaddy" Gundam, and this recent version of it is cheap, easy, and super fun to play with.

  • HG Origin Char's Zaku II - The classic antagonist, another excellent model. Whereas the Revive goes for a sleek and simple look, this guy instead goes for extra detail while still being rock solid.

  • HG 00 Raiser - Holds a special place in my heart as the second model I put together when I was in the same position as you. Also excellent model.

  • HG Gundam Fenice - Representing the Build Fighters line, which are stylistic, modified versions of other kits. I recommend watching the anime (both seasons available on YouTube) as well.

  • MG Ball ver. Ka - A gentle introduction to the MG 1/100 scale. Bigger, more details. Lots of decals. Everyone on this sub loves the Ball for some reason.

  • RG Astray Red Frame - Real Grades are the same size as High Grades, but with hella more detail and lots of tiny parts. You get a lot in a small package, for a low price. Tackle this once you're confident in your building abilities because they do require more patience and precision. Red Frame is one of the better ones IMO.

Right now all of these are available at pretty good prices with Prime shipping from Amazon.

    Happy building!

The best kit for anyone to get familiar with the hobby is the HGUC Revive RX-78-2.

Where I live there's hobby shops where I can buy in person but online I trust USA Gundam Store, Big Bad Toy Store, Amazon, and Gundam Planet.

As for beginner resources it depends on what I want to look up. Zakuaurelius, Jesse Clary, Lincoln Wright, rrobbert184, Mecha Gaikotsu, and Like Gunpla on YouTube were the biggest contributors to my improvement in modeling.

i recommend this kit if you want a recommendation https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00WW4F8YA/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Its well made, and fairly cheap, great looking for a high grade :)

u/dudewiththelonghair · 2 pointsr/battlestations

My first ever kit: HG Barbatos ($13)
Other easy (and cheap) kits I'd recommend:
HGUC RX-78-2 ($11)
HG Gusion ($13)
HG Graze Kai ($11)

I'd start with those, and based on the suggested products, just go from there! Really, I just like to buy kits based on what I think looks coolest. The HG kits are all pretty beginner-friendly, so it's really up to you!! Hope this helps!! And if you haven't already, subscribe to r/gunpla. It can be a fickle-bitch-of-a-sub when it comes to upvotes (which can be discouraging for new posters), but more often than not people there are more than willing to offer helpful advice. And if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. That goes for anyone reading this who's interested in possibly getting into the hobby as well. Good luck and happy building!

u/fissionxmailed · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

Nice build. I have this in my backlog as well as the effect part set for it. Hopefully will get to it one day.

As for kit recommendations.

If going HG recommend the HG Revive RX 78-2 (amzn.com/B00WW4F8YA).

Very newcomer friendly. Also good if you wanna start panel lining. Articulation is also great and you can do many awesome poses.

As for MG, the RX 78-2 (Origin) (amzn.com/B014SCW9DQ) or Wing Proto Zero (amzn.com/B00EOEB908) are nice kits as straight builds. Although you can practice panel lining with those as well.

But feel free to branch out. Gunpla is freedom.

The IBO line is also good, both the HG's and NG's (No MG's exist for IBO as of yet).

u/psychobilly1 · 2 pointsr/ActionFigures

As you can tell, I collect Star Wars figures mostly. And most other things I collect aren't as good. But here they are in living color:

[NECA Ultimate Jungle Hunter Predator] (http://necaonline.com/2016/12/predator-7-scale-action-figure-ultimate-jungle-hunter/) One of the few NECA figures I'm happy with. Having owned the Ultimate City Hunter Predator, the AVP Scar Predator, and the Alien Isolation Big Chap figure, I was fully prepared for this one to come damaged in box or shortly after taking him out, but thankfully I've had nothing but luck so far. Its a great sculpt, but of course I'm weary that it will look this good forever.

[Black Series Prototype Boba Fett] (https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Black-Prototype-Figure/dp/B00MYL77BI) One of my rare finds in the wild. I found this bad boy at a local comic book shop and I just had to have him. The owner even gave me a nice discount and I've been a loyal shopper there ever since. Amazing figure and the white really lends itself to the mold.

[Black Series Darth Revan] (https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Black-Darth-Revan/dp/B01AWFKM7S) One of my favorite characters from one of my favorite games. A great sculpt and a beautiful figure.

[S.H. Figuarts Kylo Ren] (https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Awakens-Figuarts-Action/dp/B014VTPQ0E) This one is modified with a [Black Series Soft Goods Swap.] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7F2o9wdQBo) Absolutely fantastic balance and articulation. Truly a favorite of mine.

[Bandai Model Kit Death Trooper] (https://www.amazon.com/BANDAI-ROGUE-Scale-TROOPER-Plastic/dp/B01LZ06HST) - One of the best looking model kits I have. Absolutely amazing value and its far better than its Black Series equivalent and, in my honest opinion, even better than the S.H. Figuarts version.

---

The equipment used was my new Samsung 8+ Phone Camera and a set of run of the mill candles for some soft lighting. Any light effects on the figures aside from the candles ware just random images reflecting from my computer monitor.

The DVDs are pretty widely available, all things considered, so the best bet is to watch for sales on Amazon/direct from Shout Factory. As far as I know, Shout isn't losing the license anytime soon so there isn't a real rush unless you simply want to watch them.

Toys wise, there's a couple different routes to go depending on what kind of collector you want to be. This is going to be a bit lengthy:

The Retro Collector - If you want the original toys, the market is pretty interesting these days due to all the nostalgia and renewed interest from the comics, etc. Finding and restoring old toys, especially the zords, can be a lot of fun thanks to the efforts of the fan community in providing replacement die cast parts and new, more show accurate stickers. Be aware that prices have started to trend up due to the interest and the limited supply - there's only so many toys from the 1990s that survived in good enough shape to sell, after all. Flea markets are a great choice here, along with eBay and the like.

The Modern Collector - If you don't have your heart set on the originals, you've picked a pretty great time to jump in. Some of the most popular of Bandai of America's Legacy line were restocked due to Hasbro taking over the license, so this is just about the best time for you to jump on a bunch of the zords before they disappear, as there's been no real announcements about Hasbro's plans for zords yet. Legacy Dragonzord, Tigerzord, Falconzord, Thunder Megazord, and Ninja Megazord are all pretty readily available at multiple retailers (Amazon, Gamestop, various online specialty shops, etc), but they won't be around forever. This is the last of the stock, and certain zords like the Ninja Megazord are already starting to go out of stock with some retailers. Unfortunately, Legacy Megazord and Legacy Titanus were not part of that restock and have had absurdly high resell value for a while now.

There's also fan favorites like the Legacy Morphers that received a restock too. The new stock on these has been nearly depleted already and their resell prices are ticking back up - fans love these due to how easily they're customized, everything from fan made coins to new die cast plates and customized stickers are available. Along with the morphers, Bandai restocked the well loved Legacy Dragon Dagger and Legacy Saba. Legacy Gold Power Staff and Legacy Zeonizer are also easily found at discounted prices these days. The only things that didn't really get a restock are the Legacy Communicators and Legacy Power Sword, which was a victim of Toys R Us' demise.

In terms of action figures, you've hit the sweet spot where Hasbro has the first wave of their new line out and we're gearing up for the second wave. While Bandai did restock a lot of their action figures too, they're less loved compared to the zords/props. I'd recommend getting caught up on Hasbro's Lightning Collection and go forward with those, if you're interested in figures. Right now you can buy all but one of the first wave direct from Hasbro and pre-order an upcoming exclusive at Gamestop, with wave 2's official announcement expected soon. Unfortunately, barring Hasbro restocking him, Lord Zedd is in the hands of resellers now due to his low production numbers and popularity.

The High End Collector - While there's certainly cross over with the Modern Collector, if you want the best version of some of these releases the only option in a lot of cases is to go with the specialty Japanese imports. From Soul of Chogokin and Mini-Pla for zords to Figuarts for figures, these tend to be better designed with better paint, but have a much higher price than you might be used to. The objectively best version of MMPR's Megazord is the SoC release, which goes for almost $300.

High end lines are expensive and it's not a decision to make lightly. Collecting a SoC Megazord, Dragonzord, and Titanus for a full Ultrazord transformation display option would cost over $660 at Amazon's current prices. It's a lot of money for three toys, and the future of the line may be even more expensive as domestic retailers will no longer be able to sell them directly due to Hasbro's new ownership of the IP.

Brand new DM here. Currently running LMoP for 3 first-timers and 2 (barely) amateurs. Bought these for my party. $17 USD

Google “LMoP paper minis” for the enemies/villains. Use some common coins as and some Elmer’s Glue for a base. It honestly takes 2 hours (with breaks for beer and Reddit lol) to cut and paste once you assemble the materials.

Otherwise get a double sided battle mat, like $22 USD and some dry erase markers, $6 USD

Skip the party’s minis if you want to save some money. But the battle mat and markers can be used FOREVER.

Here are two things for him based on his photography stuff. First is a lens cap holder which I have and its super convenient and really smart. Next is a level camera cube which just slides into the place where his external flash goes and gives him a perfectly level shot.

As for his love of nerf guns, I've found that this marshmallow bow is loads of fun and super cool, especially when you get a few for friends to play along too.

Here is a 4x4x4 Rubik's cube which I would never be able to solve, but if your friend likes it, then good for him! Also, if he already has it, here's a 5x5x5, a 6x6x6, and (just for fun cause its really expensive and probably impossible to solve) a pentamix Rubik's cube.

Also - because my impression of your friend is that he's kinda nerdy in a fun way - here are a few others: tetris light, portal bookends, more marshmallow shooters, shock ball, and a screwdriver.

Thanks for listening to me ramble [: and if you do happen to choose me, a surprise from my list would be super cool! Good luck!

So, as someone who is relatively new to DMing (started just over a year ago), here's what I'd suggest to make sure you keep your cost down, while still having figures you can slowly replace over time:

---

Starting off, you can get a lot of generic "green-army-men" style fantasy figures for relatively cheap.

  • Here's some knights
  • Here's some skeletons
  • Here's a random assortment of generic fantasy charcters
  • Here's some undead
  • Here's some barbarians that also just make decent random warriors

They're not very expensive and what they lack in quality they make up for with quantity.

    ---

The next best solution I have for cheap decent figures is for animals. I've been able to find tubes or tubs of a decent selection of cheap, pre-painted figures at just about every Walgreen's or CVS Pharmacy I've been to. I use these guys for animal encounters, pet companions, and they're especially helpful for my druid.

If you can't find them at your local drugstore IRL, there's plenty of selections you can find online.

  • Here's just an example of some of the tubes you can find.

    ---

Now, players understand you can't afford unique figures for every encounter. However, I've noticed that the figures you have stand in for whatever they're fighting can sometimes be distracting, or if you have multiple identical figures it can be confusing knowing which one they're targeting in a battle. A great, cheap solution I've found to this is just using multi-colored generic pawn pieces like from the game "Sorry!". The pieces themselves are so nondescript (other than color) that the players have an easier time projecting the combatant you describe onto them, and the various colors make it easier to track what's going on in a battle, both for the players and DM.

If you can't just salvage an old Sorry game you find lying around you can find packs of the pieces or other generic multi-colored pawns online for very cheap.

  • Multi-colored pawns
  • Meeples
  • Sorry Pieces

    ---

This last suggestion isn't really about where to find cheap figures, but more to address the reason you said you wanted figures in the first place, to "help the immersion".

You may have heard of the website HeroForge before and it's a great tool for D&D players. It allows you to make very customizable figures for your games. Now, the cost of their cheapest figures are still over $30 for a single figure, so definitely not cheap. However, as a DM, I still regularly use it. I use HeroForge to help design notable NPC's or enemies for my campaign, then save the screenshot of them and post the image in our group chat when the character gets introduced. This is very helpful for a lot of reasons: I get a more solid idea of characters that I was designing in my head, it gives the players a visual and helps with the immersion, and when I DO decide to actually order a character (like, for example, a villain or NPC I know will be reoccurring for many sessions) it becomes a MUCH bigger deal and way more intense.
I also always recommend that PC's at the very least design their figures on HeroForge for the same reasons.

  • Here's some examples of figures I designed and posted used over the past few months without ever having to spend a dime

    ---

I hope these were helpful. I'm still in the process of building my figure collection as well and love to share cool tips or resources I have found while doing so.

I know that at $150 USD it may seem like a steep price, but my wife got this for me on Christmas the year it launched (at $250) and I have had 0 reasons to be upset or disappointed with that price tag. It's completely faithful inside and out to what I believe is the season 1 look, it lights up, has functional seatbelts and a sliding canopy, and looks fucking awesome. 10/10, if you want more BTAS in your life this is a must have. Bonus: it fits all standard 6" BTAS figures in the same product line.

The Batplane is next on my most wanted list. Maybe one day it'll be in stock new or VG+ somewhere that isn't $300+.

There are several mixed sets on Amazon. Just a few:

Monsters

Fantasy

eBay has a lot too. Search for plastic toy knights, ninjas, monsters, etc. Dollar Stores also carry baggies of cheap toys.

Amazon has a few bulk cheap options, like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Monster-Action-Figure-Bucket-Frankenstein/dp/B00W5WSN5A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523683422&sr=8-1&keywords=miniatures

It isn't great and doesnt have NPCs, characters, or stranger enemies, but they make decent enough proxies for standard baddies. IMO if you have one of these, pick up a couple decent minis from Reaper for bosses, and have PCs buy and use their own figs for their characters, you can definitely scrape by.

You also might want to look out for reaper bones kickstarters. It's a really good way to get a ton of bulk by getting their base sets. It's still pricey, but you shell out a couple hundred and get enough variety in models to handle most encounters and plenty of characters for PCs to pick for playing. Totally worth it if you are trying to get a decent collection of 3d minis.

for super cheap - anything lying around

if you got access to a printer - binder clips and random pictures you find on google

This and the few others like it. if you got some money.

If you are looking for PC minis, you'll be hard pressed to stick to that budget, but there are also great sets of cheap monsters if you look around. These guys as a good general set that I have. You can also check out Pathfinder Pawns that are real great and get a lot of use at my table.

Also, if the go the pawns route, start with a bigger box like the bestiary. Some of the smaller sets don't come with bases.

u/Rockergage · 1 pointr/DnD

Well unfortunately not many places sell bulk generic minis like that but there is this.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W5WSN5A/ref=s9u_simh_gw_i3?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pd_rd_i=B00W5WSN5A&pd_rd_r=b89dcdbb-d33b-11e7-9821-4b13dd402765&pd_rd_w=0OTdK&pd_rd_wg=jjcsV&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=QK0HM00CSQV9G0PQGEPR&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=0d036f2a-db56-478a-b511-f59f2469d474&pf_rd_i=desktop

I don't believe that it is what you're looking for though but they have various other versions of these but i doubt they have a goblin version.

Reaper Miniatures does sell 6 goblins miniatures for about 3.50 so you could get 10 sets of those and have 60 goblins. All unpainted.

u/Wyietsayon · 1 pointr/Pathfinder_RPG

For my game I use lego people for players and paper minis for other baddies. But I've seen lots of other options. I had bought an old copy of Hero Quest at goodwill and that came with some good minis and some furniture. I had also found a large bucket of monsters on amazon, which was pretty handy.

There's lots of tutorials on how to make your paper minis look cool and professional. Photoshop's your friend there, and a nice printer. The paper minis are nice because now the players can easily see what the creature looks like, rather than me try to describe without using its race, thus giving away info.

The lego minifigures are easily customizable and I can make them hold books and swords, etc. They're slightly larger than 1 inch squares though, which can get a bit annoying in smaller spaces when they're all together. I'm considering just making the players in hero forge and getting them printed. It's a bit expensive, but considering they're the minis you see the most and I'm running a longer campaign, it's probably worth it if you can swing that.

u/Vicer0yal · 1 pointr/Gunpla

The side bar at the right has everything you need.

A good model to start with is any HG kit that looks cool to you but the standard kit to start with is the HGUC RX-78 Revive

https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-RX-78-2-Gundam-Revive/dp/B00WW4F8YA

You will also want side cutters and a hobby knife

I'd also reccomend getting a gundam panel line marker, either black, grey, or both.

u/CivilC · 1 pointr/Gunpla
  1. Buy an airbrush if you think you'll stick with this hobby for a while. If you make the plunge, you won't regret it. Personally, going from handpainting, to spray painting, then airbrushing make a world of difference in how easy painting can be and how much money I spend.

  2. A lot of your questions can be answered in the Repository in the sidebar. But for a brief explanation: topcoat seals in your paint and gives a certain finish to your kit. Flat/matte dull your finish (little to no shine), gloss makes your kit, uh, glossy.

  3. Surfacer is primer, essentially. Helps you see imperfections in your surface before applying paint and may alter the color of the color you put on top

  4. Start with anything cheap like the Revive rx-78-2. Maybe make some of your own color decisions and make it your own.
u/TheRageTater · 1 pointr/modelmakers

Most of the HG line would be a pretty decent start, but it never hurts to just get the original Gundam. Seek out an HG RX-78-2 Revive, it's the perfect beginner kit, and cheap as hell.

Note: It says Revive in the title of the item, but most of the Gunpla on Amazon are sold by vendors, and mix ups can happen. So if you do order this one, make sure it says Revive on the box that arrives, if not, return it. There's not MUCH difference, the Revive part just means it's an updated version, with better proportions and joints.

If you have anymore questions you can head over to /r/gunpla for help :)

u/EpsilonX · 1 pointr/evangelion

If you like Gundam, I have this one and really like it. It's a nice simple kit.

u/weableandbob · 1 pointr/Gunpla

The RX-78-2 Revive and the Barbatos Lupus are commonly recommended since they're solid kits while being ~$10. Pretty much any high grade you like the look of should be fine, though.

Real grades are about as complex as master grades, so you wouldn't get much benefit grabbing one of those first.

u/stevexc · 1 pointr/Gunpla

So I'm pretty much completely new to Gunpla (I had built one that I got from Toys R Us YEARS ago but that's it - and I remember that being simple enough for a ~12 year old to handle) but since then I've built a number of models and a whole bunch of 40k.

I'm looking to grab a couple kits to get started and I just wanted the community's opinion on whether or not they were decent buys.

I figured I'd start off simple with this guy, and then go for something a little more challenging.

Are these decent kits? I'm just completely overwhelmed by the selection, to be honest.

u/MachNeu · 1 pointr/Gunpla

Check the Wiki for lots of useful information, including tools, tutorials, FAQs, and suggested first kits.

Briefly:

You'll need some hobby nippers

And a HG RX-78-2

u/feedusurfetus · 1 pointr/Gunpla

I would say just pick up and of the "newer" high grades. They are easy builds and a nice introduction to the hobby and they typically run cheap so you could easily pick up three or four if you wanted for under $100. In addition high grades are good for mistakes if your starting because they are cheaper kits. I would pick one or two, if you like it and that seems to hold your interest get another or if that's too simple bump up to a real grade. As for models the RX 78-2 is always a good bet

u/fusilli_zaitsev · 1 pointr/Gunpla

I started building gunpla early this year and have done about 30 kits, so no expert but I have some experience to stand on. That being said, the HGUC RX-78-2 Revive was my first kit and I'd recommend that to anyone. The kit is forgiving (white doesn't show nub-marks/stress marks as much as dark colors), it doesn't require too much from the builder, and the end result is very stable and articulate. It's what cemented my new hobby. And it's relatively cheap at ~$14 US.

For a lengthier and more complicated build (though I would argue not really more difficult) I'd suggest the RG Gundam Mark II. Again, the kit succeeds in being stable, articulate, and the build progresses rather seamlessly. It also looks really awesome when completed.

There are a few other builds that for me stand out as being just very satisfying-- the HG Gerbera Tetra, the RG Char's Z'Gok- but the two I've singled out above are superlative in my opinion.

u/SeiJai · 1 pointr/Gunpla

Re-buy it? Did you lose a piece or break something? The [RX 78 Revive] (https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-RX-78-2-Gundam-Revive/dp/B00WW4F8YA) has really good reviews and is one of the most recommended HGs. If you like the Red Astray, they also made a [HG scale] (https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-Gundam-Astray-Flight/dp/B00CSJZV82). SD Gundams are cute little guys with no more than like 4 runners that are great for a quick build and get some nub removal practice. Unless you broke or lost a piece, I don't see why you can't just revisit the build later. You don't need to rebuy the whole kit.

Regarding the SoC I live in the UK but have family in Canada. Tried to ship it to Canada thinking it would save me some compared to the UK. I bought it recently from CDJapan for $435 CDN shipped but still got hit with $50 CDN of taxes despite using a shipping service (EMS SAL) that took 3 months---and from what I read would save me from taxes. It did not.

So that's about £287 compared to your £314 (equivalent to $400 usd). For the £27 difference, my feeling is that you might as well go with Amazon and have the peace of mind of knowing exactly how much you'll pay plus the fast service. It's really the unknown costs that will drive you up the wall. For direct shipping to the UK I think you have to assume that you'll always get hit by VAT and so Amazon is still better.

I also see Ebay links with free international economy from the Phillippines. For $320 USD = £250, then a 20% VAT charge plus an unknown duty charge, it'll still be around the £300 mark.

Honestly, the best deal seems to be to just go with Amazon.com where it's currently estimated at $376 USD or around £295 GBP.

I travel to the US about once a year, but I didn't want to risk the GX-72 being completely sold out. As tough as people complain about medical care and other things in the US, the truth is that you save big on taxes.

I agree about the OG being outdated, but it's still pretty kick-ass. However, after everything that's been released for the movie so far, I knew the new Megazord would be completely different. I'm excited to get a new version of it. A pack of 90 x 25mm minis for 22$ (18 pound) with double the quality and precision. That's 0.20 pounds per mini 1/5 the price. they are more mass produce than 15mm or 18mm so they are always cheaper. The dice linked will be good enough as each person will probably have two sets and you can roll and add up but if you need to make large rolls I use a dice rolling app named “Dice Ex Machina” it’s on IOS and I believe android and google store.
