D'Mannose helps. My Girlfriend had issues of getting UTI's quite frequently, D'Mannose regularly and just more water helped a lot. She can normally "kill" them prior to becoming a full blown UTI and need to get antibiotics.

u/ProbablyEatingTacos · 27 pointsr/sex

Okay, as someone who gets UTI’s probably once every three months...I have to preach for a sec.

Another user on a post looooong time ago posted about this fucking miracle juice and now the second I feel a UTI comin’ I drink 4 capfuls of this a day and I am GOLDEN. Seriously...MAGIC. It’s gotta be the liquid though. Pills don’t seem to help.

Sorry you’re strugglin’. It’s seriously the worst.

u/BabblingBunny · 18 pointsr/antiMLM

What about D-Mannose

ETA- I read about this supplement here on Reddit somewhere and saved it on my Amazon wishlist. I don't get UTIs often. Only two in the past 15 years...so there it remains, on my Amazon wishlist. Lol.

Edit 2- I just remembered why I added it! I bought it to add to my cats' food since I have one cat that is prone to UTIs and a boy, who by default would be prone to them. Adding the powder version to my cart now.

Also, would "cats' " be right if I'm talking about multiple cats of mine? Or would I just say cats? Halp!

I also used to get UTIs pretty much every month for a 2-3 year period of my life. It was hell. My doctor kept prescribing me antibiotics, which I took so often I think the bacteria in my urethra became resistant. There was one time I was in so much pain for so long I took too much Nitrofurantoin (the antibiotic) that it wiped out the 'good bacteria' in my system and I gave myself a yeast infection... on top of my UTI :(.

I was taking concentrated cranberry pills and drinking my weight in water daily, but I was always on the verge of getting a UTI. I would get one any time I had sex with my partner or drank more than one alcoholic beverage in a day.

I was so frustrated and miserable and worried that this was going to be my reality for the rest of my life. It was my partner who actually dug deep on the internet and found D-mannose, which is a sugar that's used to promote a healthy urinary tract. I am not a homeopathic/alternative medicine person, but I was desperate and totally down to try a sugar pill or anything that might help. Apparently the way that the D-mannose sugar molecule is structured, it attracts and bonds really well with the kind of bacteria molecules that grow in your urinary tract and cause the UTI.

D-mannose has changed my life. I think I've gotten an actual UTI once in the last 4 years (and I was in Indonesia). I use it when I think I might feel one coming on, and also as a preventative when I know I'll be drinking a lot or when there will be an extended period of time when I'll be more at risk (e.g. camping). It's mind blowing to me that I suffered for so long and talked to my doctor every 3-4 months to try to figure this out and just kept getting prescribed antibiotics. It was a huge learning moment for me with medicine and doctors. I ask every doctor I see now if they know about D-mannose, and so far no one has.

I can't know if this works for everyone, but I try to share this story with any many women as possible, because D-mannose has helped me get my life back. It's also cheap, you don't need a prescription, and it's on Amazon Prime! (Also in Whole foods for double the price if you're not able to order online -- I haven't seen it anywhere other than health food stores, but hopefully one day). Here's the one that I order: https://smile.amazon.com/NOW-D-Mannose-500-120-Capsules/dp/B000JN4CR0/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3NH0N6SBH0MH1&keywords=d-mannose&qid=1556468711&s=gateway&sprefix=d-manno%2Caps%2C201&sr=8-3&th=1

If this helps just one person I'll be happy! Hope the meds you got cleared it up for you :)

u/magneticbetty · 6 pointsr/AskTrollX

So I'm also a chronic UTI-haver, I get them without fail after sex unless I do all four of these things: 1) both of us take a shower before sex (yeah, it sucks for spontaneity but we also get in some shower foreplay sometimes so it's not terrible), 2) we use lots of lube, even if we think we don't need to, b/c friction = much higher chance of infection, 3) I pee immediately after sex, and 4) I take 1 scoop of ClearTract in a glass of water right after peeing. Then I usually follow up with a couple more doses that day just to be safe.

Seriously, ClearTract is so effective for me, it's a life saver. It's made of d-mannose, which to my understanding is the actual part of the cranberry that helps with UTIs, but you're taking it in a highly concentrated dose w/o all the other fillers. I can also take it when I'm just starting to get a UTI and after a day worth of dosing, it often flushes it out. It basically binds to the e.coli in your bladder and lets you pee it out. The only stipulation is that it will only work on UTIs caused by e.coli. The vast majority of them are, but if yours aren't, it won't be effective.

Also! This may not be a thing you're interested in trying, but my bf and I are both STD-tested regularly, I have an IUD, and we're not having sex with other people, so we stopped using condoms and I realized that the condom material was actually irritating the shit out of my urethra? Like even if I didn't get a UTI, it always used to be a little uncomfy to pee for a day after sex and now that doesn't happen anymore. So if y'all are monogamous and taking all other precautions... you could also give that a shot, if you're comfortable with the idea.

u/md9531 · 6 pointsr/AskReddit

D-Mannose is seriously a miracle worker! The powder kind, not the pills though. It's all natural and it really does work! Plus, she can take it every day as a precaution (just a teaspoon mixed with juice or water) and if she feels one coming on just up the dosage until she can get in to the doctor. This has helped both of my grandmas tremendously (apparently when you get older, UTIs become near constant?). Please, buy her some of this and have her try it!

I'm a fan of these AZO Antibacterial Protection capsules , have been able to avoid doctors and antibiotics for awhile thanks to these

u/HeloisePommefume · 4 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Azo pills can mask the symptoms. They're magic. But they turn your pee bright orange. Make sure you don't get the cranberry preventative ones. Any drug store should have them.

u/kiphlthy · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

Hi, I would definitely advise you to stop using antibiotics to treat UTIs. The reason is simple. Yes with the use of antibiotics, you are going to get better. But and a big BUT what happens when it recurs? And it will eventually. People tend to take another round of antibiotics and another without realizing the dangers you are exposing yourself to by taking all those antibiotics.

Try going the natural way. By this I mean manage a healthy lifestyle:

  1. Drink lots of water

  2. reduce caffeine, alcohol and smoking

  3. Start using probiotics

  4. D-Mannose

  5. hibiscus Extracts

  6. Boost your intake of vitamin C'

  7. Try using natural supplements: A good recommendation will be Harmony by Eu Natural. It is made completely from natural herbal extracts like those that I mentioned, vitamins and minerals. and very highly recommended. https://www.amazon.com/HARMONY-D-Mannose-Fast-acting-Protection-Impurities/dp/B016CCG256

Try doing the things I advised and avoid those that I mentioned. Eat healthy food, vegetables, fruits and I guarantee, you will not be needing any antibiotics of any kind

I've taken a natural product in the past called UT Fem. I was very suspicious of it because I tend to believe that most if this stuff is snake oil, but I figured wtf might as well give it a shot. It actually worked!!!

I take it periodically whenever we've been having a lot of sex in a short period of time (vacation, whenever I get back from a business trip, Sundays, etc) and also whenever I feel like I might maybe kinda possibly be getting a UTI. There's a distinct feeling, your gf probably knows. I take it for 1-3 days as the label instructs and symptoms immediately disappear.

I buy it on amazon but I'm sure it's available elsewhere too

Have you tried D-Mannose? My wife has recurrent UTI's that quickly escalate like yours. We've had more than our share of ER visits (and stays unfortunately). The D-Mannose seems to help a lot.

u/Kooshboo · 3 pointsr/Interstitialcystitis

Prelief was very helpful to me while trying to get my symptoms under control during and after diagnosis. I would take it right before eating, and I do mean right before...it will upset your stomach and make you vomit if you don't eat within about 15 minutes of taking it... I also use Azo standard Maximum strength for the burning sensations. I provided the Amazon links here...but you can usually find these in grocery stores and pharmacies in the US.

u/thr33littlebirds · 3 pointsr/kratom

Coming from a woman who has chronic UTIs: Kratom has had no direct effects, positive or negative (for me at least) when dealing with a bladder infection. One thing that's monumentally important while battling a UTI is flushing your system. Because kratom can dry you out, it's important to drink massive amounts of water to flush out your bladder.

I've tried all the treatments, and been through way too many antibiotic treatments for UTIs. After seeing several dozen doctors, my most recent recommended D-Mannose. It's a god send.

It's a sugar that binds with bacteria in your bladder and continues through your UTI tract, flushing the bacteria away. I use it both preventative and as a treatment. I get infections a tenth as often as I used to. I highly recommend it if you struggle with bladder infections.

Best of luck!

u/sasunnach · 3 pointsr/backpacking

Fantastic video! I swear by Dr. Bronner's. If you don't want the scent or freshness of the peppermint feeling I recommend the Baby Mild version. For UTIs, I also recommend taking D Mannose in a preventative manner. Need to look up what Azo is... don't think we have that in Canada?

Edit: Found them! For my fellow Canucks: https://www.amazon.ca/AZO-Standard-UTI-Treatment-Count/dp/B001JK3NTA

I’ve had one that I had to take 7 days of antibiotics in the past 2 years and that was only because I got lazy and wasn’t taking the D-mannose everyday. I now take 1000mg every night before bed in the capsule form (NOW brand) and if I feel symptoms coming on I take 2000 mg by powder every day for 7 days in addition to the 1000mg (2 capsules) before bed and haven’t had a full blown UTI since. I also recommend ordering the UTI test strips (you can get them cheap on Amazon) and test your urine from time to time. If the test strips indicate bacteria (even if you have no symptoms) up your dose of D-mannose daily until it’s back to normal range.

What I use:

UTI queen here. I usually get 1-2 per month, typically because of a wide range of reasons. Most notably I get them after sex.

All of the things people mentioned already (pee after sex, drink water, avoid this and that, etc.), while beneficial, never did anything but make me stress about UTIs even more. If you’re like me, you’ve accepted that you’re more prone to them no matter what you do, so the most important thing is killing them without turning to antibiotics. (Taking antibiotics that frequently was concerning my gyno because of the possibility of developing antibiotic resistance.)

So now whenever I feel a UTI coming on, or when I wake up in the throes of one, I take high concentration d-mannose pills. You can find them anywhere. I get mine from Amazon. I’ve tried two brands: one and two

I tried #1 first and they worked beautifully! But I switched to #2 because you get more for your money. But I might switch back because #1 is slightly faster-acting. You’re supposed to take them as daily supplements—I don’t cause I get lazy, but they work just as well as emergency meds. I don’t even have to take those AZO pills that make your pee orange (unless it’s a particularly strong infection).

I haven’t had to touch an antibiotic since and my gyno says I’m completely healthy. (I also suck at drinking water.) Good luck!

EDIT: As for yeast infections, I got tired of dropping money on Monistat, so I take a Boric Acid suppository once a week or, when I get one, everyday until it’s gone. For general maintenance, I use Summer’s Eve Aloe Love Cleansing Wash, though I don’t know if that actually does anything. At the very least, it’s not harmful and claims to balance your PH.

u/powderbubba · 3 pointsr/Healthyhooha

I had some luck with dmannose, but what really knocked out my uti was uva ursi. Get the liquid form off Amazon (link below) and it is seriously a God send. I did 30-40 drops 3 times a day for 10 days. You don’t want to take it longer than 10 days and I believe you should only do this 5-6 times a year. Obviously do your own research because I’m not a doctor, but I swear this stuff will have you feeling better after one day (but make sure you take it for the full 10 days!). Dmannose only works if the bacteria affecting you is E. Coli. Uva ursi will help if the uti is being caused by different bacteria (link to article about it below). I would also recommend getting on a strong probiotic and cut out allllll sugar for a while, even fruit. Focus on lean meat and lots of veggies and add some plain yoghurt as well.

I am so sorry you’re dealing with this. I know the mental toll it can cause. Take a deep breath and know that this is NOT forever! I’m so sorry your mom isn’t more supportive and helpful. But you are not alone!!! And please please reach out if you are feeling suicidal. Not sure which country you’re in, but please look up suicide hotlines in case you need someone to talk to. Sending you so much love and seriously PM me anytime if you have questions or need more support. ♥️

u/hlthhlthhlth · 3 pointsr/KidneyStones

One of the first and most important determinants to prevent kidney stones is living a healthy lifestyle with strong emphasis being on the right diet. You are going to want to avoid beer, soy, chocolates, legumes, wheat, nuts, salt and spinach.

Water is essential for you. To improve the health of your kidneys, get rid of inflammations, infections and stones, drink lots of water. Water will help to flush out stones and impurities form your urinary tract.

Take some Chanca Piedra from time to time. Chanca Piedra means stone breaker and it comes from a plant. With virtually no side effects this herb will help to prevent the formation of new stones and also help to get rid of existing stones by helping to relax the ureter.

Celery Seed extracts have also shown to be quite effective in this manner.

I always recommend Stone Breaker by Eu Natural. It contains the ingredients I mentioned and other vitamins and minerals which have proven to be very helpful in fighting stones and infections. You can get some https://www.amazon.com/STONE-BREAKER-Chanca-Piedra-Gallbladder/dp/B01FERIHYE .

Remember also that your system needs vitamins B6, E and magnesium. Stones are troubling yes but if not careful, they can cause further complications like UTIs and other disorders.

And finally I will advise you to exercise. By this I do not mean go start lifting weights. No, go on hikes, take part in some light exercises, yoga, swimming and others. Stay active.

Remember eat well and watch your diet.

D Mannose changed my life. Seriously. Trick is how you take it: if you feel a UTI coming on:

  • pee first if you need to
  • put a teaspoon in a small amount of water (like 4 oz), mix, drink
  • this is the critical part: don't drink anything for about 45-60 minutes.
  • Then, when 45-60 minutes is up, drink a ton of water and pee

You can repeat this if you want, but I have found that 1 or 2 times stops a UTI in its tracks. If you have a raging UTI, then do it every 1-2 hours for a bit. You could also use it preventitavely, such as after sex or before you go to sleep, for example.

D-Mannose works by binding to e-coli in your bladder. (UTIs happen when the e-coli sticks to the walls of you bladder - so anything you can do to keep the e-Coli moving along and out is good. Cranberry has the effect of making the walls slippery and harder for e-coli to stick to). Then you pee all of it out (the e-coli and the d-mannose). e-coli is the cause of most UTIs, but occasionally it can be something else.

You can buy it on Amazon for cheap but if you can't wait, I got mine once at Whole Foods for way more $$. You might also find it at a local vitamin type store. Definitely get the powder form - the capsules are good for travel but I feel less effective.

No side effects for me. My understanding is your body does not absorb d-mannose. It's been a great, over the counter alternative to antibiotics, which mess up my gut flora, BCPs effectiveness etc.

Of course, if this doesn't work quickly, or you have more severe symtoms (such as a fever), definitely go to a doctor.

On a side note, there were some studies (or urban legends) a few years back that chicken is a major contributor to UTIs. I cut down on chicken (as well as occasionally taking d-mannose preventatively after sex) and have not had any UTIs for about a year
u/red_hot_mama · 3 pointsr/eldertrees

I use this CBD oil specifically designed for pets. I use it on my senior dogs (75-90 lbs) and I can see a difference (more playful and affectionate). I give them 3 drops on a biscuit, once or twice per day; which is a low dose for their size, but cumulatively it seems to help a lot. I am not a vet, so this is not medical advice, but my oldest dog has Addison's disease and arthritis and I have seen the biggest difference in him. D-Mannose can help for bladder issues (UTIs) too. Good luck with your pupper.

u/sammi_1723 · 3 pointsr/Healthyhooha

If you are stopping the antibiotics and want to try some other treatments you could try d-mannose. I swear by that stuff! There’s one on amazon that has hibiscus in it also and it’s magical. this one.
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 8oz water twice a day for a couple days works pretty well too. Just don’t over do it on the baking soda!

u/coloradyo · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I'm assuming you're most definitely not a mutant, but for lack of knowledge in this field, I'll throw out a few suggestions. When I talked with my GYN about UTI-like symptoms, she recommended making dietary changes regarding bladder/urethral irritants. Mostly taking out tomatoes, really starchy or citrus-y foods. I've seen similar recommendations floating around for individuals with forms of interstitial cystitis.

here's a link

and this opens up the document with a comprehensive food trigger listing

Something else I've seen thrown around here has been the mention of D-Mannose, which can be used in powder or pill format. It's meant to prevent bacteria from adhering to urethral walls and therefore causing or escalating symptoms. I forget the full details, but it's something about the bacteria being heavily attracted to the sugar particles or something. I haven't seen it in many stores (but if you have a local Rite Aid, most carry it mixed with cranberry pills), though it seems to be fairly popular on Amazon.

here's one of the more popular versions

I used to go through phases where I’d get at least 1 UTI a month for 5 months in a row. It got to the point where I’d just burst into tears every time I realized I had another one and was SO anxious having sex or drinking anything besides water. I forget where I read about it (might have been on here) but I started drinking a teaspoon of D-Mannose powder in a glass of water every day and haven’t had a single one since. It’s been a little over 2 years. I still have other bladder issues like frequency, trouble emptying, etc. but no infection or pain.

This is the one I buy. It comes in capsule form too but didn’t find it as effective. Plus, the powder tastes really good.

It can be a little pricey but beyond worth it imo. UTIs are ass. I hope this or something else you find helps <3

u/DeleteBowserHistory · 2 pointsr/medical

I know this will get downvoted, and probably justifiably so, but Stone Free and Stone Breaker helped me pass some stubborn, lingering kidney calculi. They are also said to be formulated for gallstones.

u/kchirpy · 2 pointsr/Healthyhooha

I've been taking two of these in the morning, two before bed, and two after sex (it says you can take up to 9 in one day): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JN4CR0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Z3j0CbJ1F0SFD

Then one of these daily with breakfast:

  1. Yes, condoms make UTIs more likely for me. Female condoms are much better than male, and no condoms is best.
  2. D-Mannose pretty much cured me of my frequent UTIs. I take it with a huge glass of water whenever I feel like I might get one.

Also, my OBGYN recommended that I take D-Mannose once a day to ward off UTIs. Now Foods D-mannose 500mg, Capsules, 120-Count (Packaging May Vary) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JN4CR0/

u/faerielfire · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I take a little D-Mannose every day. Someone recommended it on reddit a year ago or so and it was completely out of the antibiotics/cranberry juice league: no side effects, potent as a preventative, natural, cheap. I suggest anyone with an issue for UTIs (in addition to tinkling soon after sex, within 5-10 mins) take 2-3 pea size amounts of this a day as a preventative.

u/StaceyMS · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Ohh...maybe I can help. I had a major surgery that impacted my urinary tract and I use d-mannose capsules (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HCMK90?th=1) and I have found that they really work for me. They keep bacteria from sticking together and forming a ladder up which is sometimes why infections re-occur after the first one. I hope this works for you.

Good luck. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

u/bel_esprit_ · 2 pointsr/AskDocs

Hey, you are not alone!! I’ve struggled with the same thing (even before I had sex so it’s not always sex related, like you said). I remember wanting to scream when someone told me to “wipe front to back” one more time...

I finally figured out what works best for me, and I think a lot of other girls would benefit too. The first thing is HYDRATION. I mean, really hydrate. Drink at least 1-2 liters of water every single day. This is so key for prevention. When I am very well hydrated, I never get UTIs.

Second thing: Order yourself some D-Mannose from Amazon. This is a miracle supplement for UTIs, just read the reviews. There are multiple brands of D-Mannose. You can order it online or they sell it at local health food stores and places like Whole Foods.

As soon as I feel a UTI coming, or if I know I’m gonna have sex, I’ll take 2 D-Mannose pills and drink a ton of water. It works like a charm, and soo much better than being on antibiotics multiple times a year.

(Also know that since it’s a supplement it’s not officially tested or approved, but just read the reviews on Amazon).

Just don’t forget to drink water every day, like 1-2 liters (not coffee, not coke, etc). If you’re well hydrated, you’re less likely to need any supplement for UTI. Water is best for prevention.

u/esoomcol · 2 pointsr/sex

Yup, female bodies can be horribly unpredictable.

Oh you should totally try out D-Mannose sugar as a UTI preventative. Shit is awesome. I used to get UTIs every time after having sex, and have not gotten one since using this stuff.

Here's links to the products I use.

https://smile.amazon.com/NOW-Foods-733739028105-D-Mannose-3-Ounce/dp/B000HCMK90?sa-no-redirect=1&th=1

D-Mannose is basically the distilled cranberry sugar that helps with urinary problems (and you obviously can't make your cat drink cranberry juice). I use the gelcaps and give him half of one per meal mixed in with his wet food (so about 500mg per day (1/2 tsp) while he seems to be having issues). I only give it to him if he seems more highly stressed out or has been licking his bottom more frequently and it has cleared up those symptoms. Usually for about 5 days until I am certain it won't recur. Unfortunately if he's already blocked or in a more serious state it can't do anything to help that :(

The product linked above is just the powder without the gelcaps, which is slightly less expensive.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013OSMVG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

Glucosamine Sulfate is the same stuff they give to people with joint issues. It's good for that but also lowers inflammation overall and has been shown to help rebuild the bladder lining. I give him 1/2 capsule twice daily mixed into his food. Again this is only given when he seems to be showing symptoms rather than at all times.

u/ihcun · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I had that for awhile. It occurred most noticeably after I took the course of antibiotics prescribed for it. It was like you described - very mild sensation of UTI, not awful, but enough to make you notice it all day. So I took these cranberry pills once a day, and also used this D-mannose powder. I'm not sure which one worked because I was doing them both, but the UTI went away completely after a week of doing those. And whenever I thought I felt it coming back, I'd just take a cranberry pill and it'd disappear. I haven't had it since, and I'm not taking the pills anymore.

And this is the part I'm hesitant to say because there's absolutely no scientific evidence backing this up, but I stopped eating the sausage meat from McDonalds. Because both of the times I had really severe UTIs, I'd had sex and gotten a sausage biscuit from McD's the next morning. I'm pretty sure it's a mental thing, but I can't eat sausage biscuits from there anymore.

u/Nerdlinger · 2 pointsr/sex

My fiancée finds AZO (you can get it at the grocery store or drug store) to really help with the symptoms.

u/ameliamirerye · 1 pointr/sex

Hi! I got reoccurring UTIs for years and then got this D Mannose . I take it any time I feel one coming and it knocks it out almost immediately. It works on UTIs caused by e-coli.

Also drink lots of water. I get dehydrated easily and I think that lends to their start. Try to pee more frequently throughout the day even if you don’t “need” to.

u/gypsywhisperer · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

Yep, that's the easiest way to prevent a UTI.

Major props to you for going to the doctor. I went to the clinic because the morning after I had a fever and I had smelly urine, but the school nurse said it was way too soon to be a UTI.

The next day, yeah, it was bad. I went to the ER and they gave me some medicine (I had gotten antibiotics, but they gave me something that relaxed my bladder because I was in so much pain. It made my pee orangered.)

I also have taken these and I don't know if they help, but they're something to look into.

This is the one I used, it’s exp but worth it. Make sure to drink tons of water consistently but after you take it wait about an hour before you drink more so it won’t be diluted.

If you end up ordering from amazon, to help w the pain take AZO and just keep drinking water. Cranberry juice does nothing.

EDIT: ALSO pee always after sex and wipe front to back

I read somewhere Alka Seltzer helps. (I have tried it) It works wonders!!

Also AZO makes a uti pill. That also has worked wonders for me. Instant relief!

Can look into D-Mannose supplements, have helped some people with preventing UTIs.

u/GlobbyDoodle · 1 pointr/AskDocs

I randomly came across your post and thought I'd comment. You might try D-Mannose - which you can buy at Sprouts or Amazon. I had a UTI for months and no antibiotics helped! I desperately started searching on the web and found this stuff. Took it for a few days and my UTI was dramatically better! Now I take it anytime I feel that icky "twinge".

u/knowsomeofit · 1 pointr/TotalReddit

Oh hey. Check out chanca piedra. My partner has had terrible kidney stones in the past. Her doctor in Chile prescribed this stuff -- it's an herbal tincture you take a couple of times a day in water. It really works.

u/riotgrrrl69 · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

If you have UTI issues or sign of infection I would 100% recommend taking D-Mannose , a supplement that takes the bacteria in your bladder/urinary tract and flushes it out the next time you pee. It CHANGED MY LIFE. I’ve had lifelong chronic UTIs (since before I was sexually active) and this is legitimately the only thing I’ve ever taken that has helped (that’s not antibiotics). Just take a couple before bed for a few days and see if it helps! I only take it now if I feel burning when I urinate and it immediately clears it up. Good luck:)

I'll echo the comments of those guys being assholes.

Additionally, my ex girlfriend would get UTI's and started using D-Mannose. Good stuff!

u/Mormolyke · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

I get the Now Foods capsules, but they really just contain the powder, so either form is fine. You can get it at any Vitamin Shoppe or on Amazon as linked. It seriously changed my life. I think it's awful that it's not more well known as a treatment, and that every sexually active woman doesn't have some D-Mannose in her house! For me, it was the only thing I needed to do -- and believe me, I tried everything before I stumbled across it.

u/LB1210 · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

Have you tried D-Mannose? It may not work if it's not a UTI, and I would recommend checking with your doctor before using it, but I used to have awful chronic UTIs I didn't feel like ever went away and it was a miracle. Check out the reviews on Amazon. FYI the powder works better.

u/clandestinita · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

or you can use d-mannose. this stuff is a godsend. you can just take it in pill form and its completely safe.

u/TashalovesSharks · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

No I use this one http://www.amazon.com/Cystex®-Urinary-Pain-Relief-Tablets/dp/B000052YF7. It should be OTC at the pharmacy.

I have not tried the preventative version, I just take it when I feel one starting. I have seen others who take cranberry pills daily to prevent them, but I don't do anything like that.

Just make sure you pee after sex (and before if that's possible). That will help prevent them.

u/no1particular · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

If you are peeing blood clots, I would suggest getting medical attention immediately. Putting it off will only cost you more, as the worse it gets the more your kidneys will suffer, and kidney intervention is much more expensive than an office visit + antibiotics.

HOWEVER, for future reference, there is a supplement called D-Mannose which is an excellent cure/preventative for UTI's (it is essentially a highly concentrated version of what you find in cranberry juice) https://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-D-Mannose-Powder-3-Ounce/dp/B000HCMK90/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1467939990&sr=8-1&keywords=d-mannose, and only costs about $15 . Now, being in the healthcare field, I am not what you would consider a 100% Naturalist in terms of medicine, but I have used it myself and have found it to work successfully on beginning-mid stage UTI's. There is evidence-based research that supports its use, and more and more it is looking like a viable alternative to antibiotics.

EDIT: fixed some typos

Try this stuff http://www.amazon.com/D-Mannose-500-mg-120-Caps/dp/B000JN4CR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408586379&sr=8-1&keywords=d-mannose+capsules. The first reviewer says she had the same issue your girlfriend has and these cured it. Plus these are much safer than taking antibiotics all the time.

u/Bobert25467 · 1 pointr/sounding

Assuming you don't have access to a doctor try drinking cranberry juice. It is acidic and will make it harder for the bacteria to survive. But try to get 100% cranberry juice not the more popular version that has like 27%. It may be bitter but it's more effective. Also I used these pills and they definitely helped. They are better at preventing a UTI than treating it though. Take them like a half hour before sex or sounding and it should prevent or lessen the UTI. Harmony D-Mannose - Urinary Tract UT Cleanse https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016CCG256/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_z8wPDbHNP29V3

But going to the doctor is the best because a UTI can spread into you kidneys and become serious if left untreated. But I have found it also depends how you get the UTI. If it's from normal sex instead of sounding you may have more time to try home remedies before it advances into the kidneys. Also sometimes you only get a minor infection and the home remedies will be enough but if you get a fever it's advanced and you should get antibiotics.

u/focksandhound · 1 pointr/sex

I'm in a long distance relationship. So when we see each other for the few days we tend to get pretty busy. I used to get UTIs every time and one time I got a kidney infection. UNTIL I discovered this stuff called d-mannose (http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-D-Mannose-Powder-3-Ounce/dp/B000HCMK90). You can mix it with water and use it to flush out your bladder and urinary tract. Read the comments on the amazon link for instructions on how to use it. Total lifesaver, haven't had a UTI since I started using it. Cranberry pills and juice did nothing for me.

u/Lil_Boots1 · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

If you can get a referral to a urologist, there are options like prophylactic antibiotics to be taken when you have sex or what they call "self-start" antibiotics where you check for infections when you think you have one (there are tests you can buy that are made by Azo) and then you go fill your standing prescription without having to see a doctor.

In the meantime, you can probably buy a pack of UTI tests and see if you have a UTI or just irritation. You could consider trying female condoms or polyurethane condoms in case you have a sensitivity to latex that's causing the symptoms. When you have painful urination, there's some amazing pills that you can buy over the counter in the US. It turns your pee Gatorade orange but relieves most symptoms. Make sure you see a doctor or take a test before taking them, because they'll screw up the dip test since phenazopyridine is actually a dye, but they're basically a miracle drug.

u/jabespetes · 1 pointr/breastfeeding

I realize this isn’t the advice you’re asking for but I also got a UTI after birth that lasted through two rounds of antibiotics and this stuff was a life saver: NOW D-Mannose 500 mg,120 Veg Capsules https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JN4CR0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_U.3.BbH6Y2RQ2

There’s some clinical evidence that it can treat UTIs that aren’t responding to ABs and for me the relief was pretty quick. Good luck - you must be miserable!

u/smylmr · 1 pointr/Healthyhooha

hey there, now the problem with antibiotics is that if the UTI recurs, like you said you are going to be put on another set of antibiotics. The risk with this is quite high for your health. I would advice you to try natural remedies. I am going to give you some tips that will help when you have a UTI and to prevent new ones.

  1. Use D-Mannose. D-mannose is a natural sugar that sticks itself to E.coli which is the bacteria responsible for UTIs. It is then easier to flash it out of your system by drinking more water.

  2. The second item is Hibiscus extracts. Hibiscus has some really amazing health benefits and will go a long way to fight infections in your system

  3. Eat Probiotics. These are healthy bacteria that help to fight against the bad bacteria. Yogurts for example

  4. Boost your intake of Vitamin C by eating fruits like oranges

  5. Consider some supplements preferably made from the items I mentioned. A good recommendation is Harmony by Eu Natural ( https://www.amazon.com/HARMONY-D-Mannose-Fast-acting-Protection-Impurities/dp/B016CCG256). This is by far the safest and most effective remedy I have come across.

  6. I briefly mentioned but I will like to stress it again. WATER! Drink lots of water not only during UTIs but on normal days as well

These are some tips from me, I hope you find them useful

From wikipedia: "
Mannose, packaged as the nutritional supplement "d-mannose", is a sugar monomer of the aldohexose series of carbohydrates. Mannose is a C-2 epimer of glucose. Mannose is important in human metabolism, especially in the glycosylation of certain proteins."

Basically, you can take it in either capsule form, or powder form. While it's technically a sugar, it does wonders in the urinary tract/bladder. If I recall correctly, they think that it prevents the bacteria from grabbing on to the bladder lining, so you're able to finally get rid of it. Something like that.

It worked so much better than cranberry, for me. Apparently d-mannose is the active ingredient in cranberry juice? So, why not just take it straight, instead?

I don't usually link Mercola as I think he's pretty quacky, but all of this sounds right.

u/sjmulkerin · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

This Azo doesn't make your pee orange. It's not a pain reliever, it actually breaks down into an antimicrobial in your bladder. Not sure exactly how it works, but it helps me 🤞

Have her pull it out ASAP. She should drink lots of water so she urinates a lot & flushes out the area. If she can get some of this stuff (any brand, you can find @ health food stores), it's inexpensive & very good for preventing UTIs.

If it was inside her for a matter of 12 hours or so, she is probably fine as long as she gets it out soon.
