I mostly used this guide - https://tombuildsstuff.blogspot.com/2014/02/diy-server-rack-plans.html?m=1

The wood I got isn't normal 2x4's, but instead 1 1/4 x 3 pine. It's the wood in the back of Home Depot that costs $20 per 8 foot board but worth it due to them being a lot straighter. I used 4 boards to complete this.
I used 2" Kreg screws with my Kreg Jig. The mounting depth for the rails is 21.5".
It's a broom/mop rack. Like this, but a different brand
It’s to hold up brooms and mops

Storage and organization:
Very simply: Use the posts for modular wire shelving. The legs can screw together, each is 14 inches long.
These shelving systems are sold everywhere under many different names with the same basic design. Smaller shelves have legs that are 3/4" in diameter with 1/4" screws. Larger ones are available with 1" diameter posts and 1/2" screws connecting them. Different post lengths are available but 14" is the sweet spot for a spreader bar.
The cheapest option I found was the "Whitmor Supreme Stacking Shelf Organizer" on Amazon. This has 4x 14" posts that are 3/4" in diameter for $12.65+shipping: https://www.amazon.com/Whitmor-Supreme-Stacking-Shelf-Organizer/dp/B0007MHD2E/
You can also buy just a set of the 1" posts here: https://www.shelving.com/SI-Chrome-Round-Post-Sets-p/si-pc-set-p.htm (Note that I haven't bought from there, I just googled it when looking for the cheapest option).
There are also tons more options that are basically the same overall design. I'm not trying to endorse any vendor (I'm not affiliated with any of them), just pointing out that these very common posts are perfect for turning into a spreader bar.
A pack of two 1/4" 20 threads per inch (TPI) 2 1/2" long eye bolts are available from Home Depot for $1.18 and they fit the Whitmor posts perfectly. You can easily screw them in by hand at the ends and in less than a minute you have a spreader bar with no tools necessary.
I bought two sets of two eye bolts, so I could use one post as a wrist bar, and the remaining three legs combine to form a 42" leg spreader bar as pictured.
The best part of this is that you can unscrew the legs again, collapsing the bar for storage to a length of only about 15" (with the end eye bolts in). This means that instead of having an awkward 3+ foot bar in my closet I can easily throw the set of 15" posts in a large desk drawer (though they are still long enough I have to put them in at an angle to make them fit).
One concern at first glance might be: "Wait, if the posts screw together so easily couldn't someone just easily unscrew them and get out of the spreader?" Answer: No. Maybe this is obvious to people who are not me, but it doesn't work this way provided you are attached to both the screw and what it is attached to. Take any two things that are screwed together. Then try to unscrew one from the other, never taking your hand off of either one. Go ahead and try. You can't do it. You'll end up trying to wrap your arms into a pretzel. Despite how easily it screws together, it's secure.
>Things I’ve already thought about are making sure we have electrical outlets in areas that I’ll be putting cameras
This isn't needed if you get Power Over Ethernet (POE) cameras.. which you probably should be using anyway...

Amazon:
A fist-full of the cheap $1 philips and flathead screw drivers from home depot.
Monoprice: Pigtail adapters for your PDU's to go from c14 to 5-15R. Almost every electronic device these days is universal power (90-240v, 50/60hz.) The notable exception is your driver charger. Never order fewer than 5 of anything. 10 for ethernet cables. On that note, order 2x 50' ethernet cables, and 10 of every other length and color you might need. Some long micro usb cables for phone charging. $100 extremely well spent.

Pole-style crash cart. Your own crash cart is worth its weight in gold, and one you can't leave shit on is worth another weight in gold because it cannot get messy and junked up. $350? I forget.
All in all $1500 worth of stuff you will see once a year at best. However your on-site techs will never spend much if any time rooting around for tools. Do not travel with this stuff, buy one kit per colo site.
Also never let anyone tell you square-holed racks are bad. Order 1000 extra fasteners and nuts. This is on top of whatever you need to mount the stuff you know about. Only ever order one type. Throw away any fastener kits which come with your equipment because they might be slightly different. Remember 1000 fasteners is only 125 rack units assuming top, bottom, front, back, left, right. It's fewer still if you put in the center locking one. Have them toss in a cage nut tool, or learn to use a small flathead. Blood for the datacenter gods. Eventually you get extremely good at them and will stop cutting yourself.
Now off the reservation: Wifi router (buffalo) $80 prime, network printer (Brother, use the wired connection) $125 prime, ream of paper ($10, prime or staples).
Broom rack

It’s to hold mops or brooms, like this.
While I was Konmari-ing, I went on Amazon and ordered shelf dividers and boot storage things (like sticks that you put inside of the boot and it stores the boot upside down) and made a wishlist of other things. Fortunately, I don't pay for Amazon Prime, so when I was done organizing my closet a few days later, I realized I was able to organize my sweaters in old shoe racks that I no longer needed to fill with shoes and I ended up finding enough unneeded tissue paper I could use to stuff my boots and the boot organizer wasn't necessary. So I cancelled the Amazon order.
I organize my vanity drawer stuff in a pink fabric sectional organizer from Target. My closet shelf has some basket organizing using a mixture of The Container Store and Target. I bought one of these for my utility room.
Cost $0 because I was able to use what I already had. Edit--I did buy that utility organizer for $10.
Broom and mop holder. The handle is gripped by the roller.

I ordered the mounts from Amazon. They work really well.
https://www.amazon.com/YYST-Clear-Light-Saber-Holder/dp/B07F58LXFP?ref_=ast_bbp_dp&th=1&psc=1
This is the mount I used. Just three small screws/anchors to attach.

I love this. I can take my hard top off in less than 5 mins. Never had any issues at all and it uses an electric drill.
Racor - Ceiling Storage Heavy Lift - Up to 250 lbs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009I8AO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PQDpDbBA7PPWK
I did something similar, and used these rails
You can get shorter ones if you only want to rack a few items. I just wanted some rails for my network equipment. My server could be rack mounted, but I just have it at the bottom on the rack, similar to yours.
I use something called a tool organizer. They look like this https://www.amazon.com/Berry-Ave-Broom-Holder-Organization/dp/B01DI8H364/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1525034121&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=tool+rack&dpPl=1&dpID=51PWRVBlm3L&ref=plSrch

I used these rails from amazon. Didn't realize the original design used 2 sets of these but i don't have anything that needs a 4 post rack right now but i can add another set in the back if needed easily.
I did quite a bit of research when looking for a solution and ended up with the cabinets. The other option I was looking at was something like this but for whatever reason ended up with the cabinets. I like them but there are some pieces that don't fit well. When we got them they came in one of these, completely unorganized. It was impossible to find anything.
Amazon.
YYST Clear Light Saber Wall Mount... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F58LXFP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I happened across a wall mount similar to this (might be the same thing) for like $20 at Lowe's. It keeps all of my lumber up off the floor on one side of my garage.
I’d think you’d want something like thiscable lift . Don’t see any reason you couldn’t fix a DC motor to something like that, although of course you’ll need to figure out your torque/gearing requirements.
I wouldn’t recommend the all-thread approach, for a few reasons. First, all-thread is readily available but generally makes a poor leadscrew. Purpose-made leadscrews can be fairly expensive, and you’re talking about (presumably) 4 fairly long ones. Next, any kind of lead screw solution will require lubrication, which will quickly result in grease all over you, your bed, your van, etc., in addition to an extra maintenance item. Thirdly, you have to worry about keeping your 4 corners leveled, which requires coordinating multiple lead screws. Do you have multiple motors? Or are you going to run a belt drive from 1 motor to all 4 screws? Messy. Lastly, the screws would reduce your space savings, since they are always in place. With an overhead hoist, there’s no lost footprint when the bed is fully raised.
Just installed two of these, one in my kitchen and another in the garage. Really improved organization of brooms, mops, rakes, and all. It really grips and hangs on.... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DI8H364/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would suggest this one. You can put essential colors in the big ones (black, white, etc.) and other colors in the small ones. The small ones hold a bag of 1,000 perfectly, while the big ones hold around 4,000. I got mine for around $18 at Lowe's.
Best accessory I've bought the for the Jeep.
It's a Racor storage lift that uses any drill to lift it up. It's badass how well it works.
I loop ratcheting straps around the hardtop, and hook them into the platform. Then I get my drill and lift it right off, kinda like this.
Will hold 80 pairs in the box. They sell it at Home Depot and Wal Mart too. Wal Mart is the cheapest. They also sell the exact same one under their "muscle rack" brand.

Really just get the same bins. You want them to be the same overall size so they stack next to each other nicely.
I got my 20U rails from Amazon. $28.
I found that the little wire shelves that you can get to double your pantry or shelving area are nice. https://www.amazon.com/ClosetMaid-3456-Large-Shelf-White/dp/B00AES2XB2/ref=sxin_0_ac_d_rm?ac_md=0-0-c2hlbGYgZXh0ZW5kZXI%3D-ac_d_rm&keywords=shelf+extender&pd_rd_i=B00AES2XB2&pd_rd_r=9e863b24-afce-4f4c-b042-dad654d80771&pd_rd_w=Fvxud&pd_rd_wg=jLiMQ&pf_rd_p=983984df-2ad2-4c97-ba7f-4c5a90291c2b&pf_rd_r=QBSJYQSPZW1V99XPX4NY&psc=1&qid=1569685004&s=gateway

Guaranteed if you have a lot of dishes, there are some you really never use. Pack those up and put them in storage somewhere, that way you are not throwing them away, if the wife is worried about that. You don't need 24 coffee cups, or bowls, for 3 people for daily use. Put stuff you only use once a year (christmas turkey roasting pan) in a plastic tote, and put it in the garage or basement. Better yet, if you have a kid who will be moving out in the next few years, start putting extra items in a tote for them to take when they move.
I recently moved, and like a nerd I mapped out my kitchen cupboards before I unpacked. Having things where you need them makes putting them away and finding them so much easier. Keep the coffee cups close to the coffee maker, the glasses near the sink, the spices close to the stove.
I don't have one but it gets very good reviews on Amazon.

This is my cheap alternative to a laptop stand. I’ve been using it for over a year now. And it’s fantastic.
Looks great! What I think you could add for the little things is buy an over the door shelf. It’s so great!
It made a difference in my home, especially with the cans & little items.

You will never have enough storage :-). I use wall mounted bins like this for common parts, storage boxes like this for resistors, caps, etc., and a variety of other things like losthiker posted for LEDs and other small parts. I have some big drawers (made out of wood wine cases I pick up at wine stores) for mid-sized things, too.
Just got sent this link by a friend. I just bought a house with an 8' door so I can drive inside with the tent on (that was a requirement for any house I got). I was planning on building something to store the tent, but this is practically exactly what I was looking for anyway!
Figured a few people here might want the same thing.

What storage containers do you use (or have you used) for your various bits and baubles?
What were the advantages/disadvantages? I'm thinking of trying to standardize on just a few types of storage and don't want to back myself into a corner.
Buy this shelf with bins, you can put stuff in the bins, like candy and stuffed animals.
I built an angled rack for under my stairs for my homelab, using 2x4s and just the threaded rails I got off Amazon. Total cost, $63
14U for 4-post stuff, 8U above at the top/front for switch, router, and cable management.
20U Rails
14U rails
Got some old compaq swing arms off FleaBay for $18 so the two 4U boxes can extend on their rails while they're powered on.
The rails I got with the servers... Not sure where you can buy them. If you mean the posts (I realized I made a typo in the album and I actually got sent 40u posts!), I got the 20u ones off Amazon - these ones: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00JJ18OVS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Looks like the same one I got. I like it a lot.

Is this good?
I just put THIS tutorial up. It can be made for under $50 if you have a drill at home & a way to cut wood at store or in home. If you're on a budget just get a Wire Shelf Rack, stick everything on a table w/ cards on top of rack & call it a day. If you have pets though they can easily knock the cards over so I'd go with a milk crate or something more substantial.
I believe i got them off of amazon they were really cheap for the set

If I were you, I would start with an ord bot rather than an I3. I have both, and the ord frame is much more rigid and easier to upgrade.
there used to be a 300x300mm heated bed from punacatt. From what I recall, it needed its own power supply. People built several 12"x12" ord bots by just swapping out two of the makerslide sections and one regular extrusion section.
If you look at the very large builds online (24"+), you'll see that most don't use a heated bed and have an enclosed build volume instead.
What I did was take a steel shelving unit and enclose the level that has my printer on it.

Yep, we get a lot of use out of it though. We camp/travel often and have two large dogs. Have a way to lift it off when you don't need it. I use this, lets a power drill do the work.

I got this and love it. The adjustable height is nice, although I've left it on the highest level because that's what works best for me.

they're also in walmart I saw them the other day
Doubtful. I don't know what size of bolt you're using, but I have a bunch of lumber storage racks on stud walls in the shop. Capable of 100lbs per shelf, 600lbs total, they're fully loaded and no problems
I use this here. I didn't stack them though, so I have the 2 halves side by side like this.. It's really nice to have the surface for brewing and tinkering around in the garage. You could get 2 and have a high shelf if you wanted as well.
I use a Racor Storage Lift as a lift and it works pretty well; I replaced the metal cage with a couple 2x4s then just run tow straps to connect the top. There's no balance issues. Nice creeper head.
BIGGIE: Stop comparing yourself to others as you are a unique individual and everyone does things according to their uniqueness and skill level and that's okay. Also, everyone's uniqueness makes them more beautiful and interesting.
Since you can't put the books standing up vertically, try stacking them horizontally but still organize by size so they're mostly in neat columns.
You would want to put trinkets and misc items in their own containers, where related items all go in the same bin, but laid out in a way so you can see all of them and access all of them without having to move things--so not just one box with stuff stacked up it in randomly, unless you absolutely can't avoid doing so (sometimes, throwing shit in a box is really the only thing you can do haha). I find trays (like the lid of a shoebox, for example of height) instead of boxes to be best for this. Trays would be a great set up for you, since you said your shelves are deep but not tall.
To maximize the amount of space you have, you can add mini shelving within a shelf. So for example, on that top shelf, I can see you have a mug or cup of some kind. You could fit tiny shelf there, something that stands on its own, like this, so you'd have the cup where it is now alongside some other stuff, and then on top of it you could place more cups or a tray of other stuff.
You can get trays from the dollar store, use a shoebox lid, or even just cut the bottom of a tissue box off. All my trays are basically the lids for "memory boxes" I got from Michael's. I use the boxes themselves as closet organizers.

I actually have no way to get up into the space above the ceiling.
I was going off this site, which says 1/4" for 3/8" lag bolts.

I have one of these commercial shelving racks, new, unopened in box. I bought two and only have room for one.
$100.
Heh, they have the same shelves on Amazon for about the same price here:

There's a few different options for sizes. I only have one in my closet and that's all I have space for. I would love to get another one because it's usually full but I don't have much room for a second. I want to expand my inventory. There are plenty of things I see that I'd like to buy but I know I don't have the space for it all. :(
Depending on how many different colors of beads you have, small drawer organizers are a great way to sort, store, and retrieve beads.
This organizer comes with 39 drawers and this one comes with 60. You can use a label maker to label each drawer with the name of each color, which makes it way easier to restock beads since you can easily identify the exact color with the labels.
I currently use this ArtBin organizer, which is great to take with you on the go. It comes with removable dividers so you can make the spaces as little or big as you want. The downside to this organizer is that once you add all the colors, it's a huge pain to resort the colors, if you like to sort them rainbow-style.
Lol damnn I think I’ll stick with what I have! This thing cost me $15 and by just putting something at the back to raise it up an inch or two all the water runs to the front.

Good luck!!!
I bought this in grey a while ago and it’s the best thing ever.
Ah, ok. My big batch (5g) brewing is on LPG. I have a 3-Shelf Gorilla Shelf (thanks, Craigslist) that I set up a tear down on brew day. Both burners have stands, and it sets up a nice little, collapsible, 3-tier system.
My smaller batches (1-2g) I do on the stove top, and as you said, extra hands would just get in the way.

Someone shared this one in another thread here that I had found and saved awhile back: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F58LXFP/?coliid=I7R5Z94PLFVYG&colid=29QA2M1G0U5WS&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
this I think is slightly too short for your needs -- but this might be a good starting place to start looking?
Mint, rosemary, and basil are standard easy herbs.
For a dead-simple setup, you can buy 2 of these and two of these and clamp/hang them about 1 ft above the tops of your herbs. Then put a couple pots on/under a wire shelf like this.
I like these kinds of installations because there's really no "building" and they can be moved around easily. Metal wire shelves are also very versatile so you can reconfigure/repurpose them as needed.
This little company does... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJ18OVS/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=IJPLO5AFFSPC3&colid=WPA62QPGVPAQ
I only mount it when going on trips. Pully is a great idea. Here is one I'm looking at getting: https://www.amazon.com/Racor-PHL-1R-HeavyLift-4-Foot-Cable-Lifted/dp/B0009I8AO6/ref=s9_psimh_gw_g469_i1_r?_encoding=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=3NF3WKD5SFQTJVCSBVX7&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=a6aaf593-1ba4-4f4e-bdcc-0febe090b8ed&pf_rd_i=desktop
I have two of these, and they are fuckin' rock solid. $44 bucks with prime shipping. Heavy duty, easily hold any size tire, and adjustable width to hit weird spaced studs.

I like everyone's idea on shelving. But the best money I ever put into the business was ordering these: http://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-Commercial-7-Shelf-Certified/dp/B0041L4R4O/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1426802356&sr=8-13&keywords=parts+shelves
Fantastic, sturdy shelving. And if you don't want to buy a magnetic mat, then go to Home Depot and buy some magnetic rolls (like tape) and glue them down to your desk or work bench. I use a cutting board (yes, the ones you use in the kitchen) with a ESD mat on it, and magnetic strips down the right hand side numbered 1 through 24. Each time I take out a piece of the phone, it's set on the strip with the screws.

HERE IS AN IMAGE OF WHAT THE CUTTING BOARD LOOKS LIKE, THE WHITE IS MAGNETS, THE BROWN IS THE BOARD, AND THE GREEN IS THE ESD MAT
They look like they're just garage shelving painted black. Something similar to this with black shelves. Actually pretty cost effective and very good looking.
These in particular are really cool because you break them in half to do a double wide half height set up.
Look at lumber racks on Amazon. I just bought this, haven't installed yet Titan 6 Shelf Lumber Storage Rack Steel Wall-Mounted Indoor/Outdoor 600 lb Max https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G5NX0A2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sxTbBbHX8S2ZD
I went with this solution. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001O4A42K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got a thing on amazon for mine so they don't effectively take up any room during the off season.
Link here (not a referral link, I'm not making anything off this)
Something like this may not be a bad idea for handgun mags if you get one with enough bin depth.
I grabbed two of these to cover an 8 foot area on my wall and they work great.
