You and me are in the same boat. I have one of those fabled Internet jobs so dispensable money comes when I want it to. Here are some of the things I bought just yesterday.

LED light strips to accent stuff in your house, with remote control -Video example

Threadless shirts Seriously these shirts are sweet as hell. Look under clearance, too, the $10 ones are very cool. Nothing like those "LOL I KNOW MEMES!!" type t-shirts that litter most t-shirt sites.

Boon Glo Nightlight Completely, completely unnecessary and overpriced. But cool as hell. Unboxing video

Candy dispensers are fun

Sites like Woot and 1SaleADay post new deals on a daily basis, and they are often really sweet things. Bookmark them if you haven't already.

Buy yourself a sweet looking fish tank

Obligatory head massager post

Edit: Couple of you are asking about the job. I figured I had that coming. Please don't perceive this as dick-ish, but I'd rather not talk about it. Yes, it's perfectly legal and no I'm not flaunting my hot body for money, but there's some quote out there about keeping ingenuity a secret from others so...that. I will say this, though. You can make money doing ANYTHING online. Remember the used socks eBay AMA last year? That dude made thousands. Don't look at some TV commercial about taking surveys online for cash, realize it's a low paying scam, and give up. Those are shallow waters. Keep trekking!

Nope. Not a typo. My daughter’s 2nd birthday was this weekend and I *finally* got to put together the “nursery” of my Pinterest dreams. At what age do we stop calling it a nursery? 🤔

The irony is that I *just* got this space together and she’s literally weeks away from outsmarting that crib. Toddler bed already in the works.

Why did it take so long? In short, we bought this house in a bit of a rush due to impending baby, and it was a fixer upper so we shared a room while the projects were ongoing. It still needs some work. We plan to replace her carpet and base trim (please excuse the carpet ripple),but that will have to wait until we can replenish our house project fund and energy.

Top Five Product/Gear List

1. Crib: IKEA

I know a lot of people choose this crib for budget reasons, but I honestly prefer its simplicity to many others I’ve seen that cost 2-6x as much. It’s a great minimalist nursery pick and you can’t beat the price.

2. Book Baskets: Amazon

We have these same ones in our kitchen as fruit baskets, and I mainly like that they match. But they also hold a lot of books, which is great. I think I might add a fourth basket because we’re currently at capacity.

3. Wall Decals: Amazon

These were super easy to apply and one pack was the exact quantity that I needed for the whole wall, which made my OCD happy.

4. Hatch Baby Rest: Amazon

This was a gift from my dad last xmas and I honestly wish I had set it up sooner (we were pretty short on space with the renovations in progress). I love that I can control it from my phone and I’m excited for the “time to rise” feature as she gets older.

5. Tent: DIY Tutorial

I followed this tutorial for the main frame, but I wanted a more minimal look for the fabric portion so just made some simple channels for the dowels to pass through at the bottom. I also added some holes near the top to pass a string through and secured it with wood beads, to prevent it from splaying open too far and collapsing. This project requires beginner sewing and woodshop skills, but the end result is awesome. This was our birthday gift to our daughter and she loves it so far.

Here are a couple more pictures.

Top Five that money can buy:

  1. Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 crib. I’ve seen this crib in lots of nursery pics. It is easy to put together and sturdy. We picked ours up off Facebook Marketplace for $125, including the conversion kit.

  2. Hatch Rest sound machine and night light. we got a chance to trial run this little gadget a couple days ago when a friend’s toddler napped at our house. It was nice being able to change the sounds and light colors and turn up the sound using an app on my phone. Toddler was fussing and we turned up the sound a little and he went to sleep! Magic!

  3. Jellycat stuffed animals. They are just so cute. I give one to all the new babies in my life. My brother and SIL gifted this baby with one.

  4. Ubbi diaper pail. I don’t have experience using it, but it calms my nerves about poop. 🤷‍♀️

  5. Nambe photo frame. This was a gift. It is the sweetest little frame ever and not something I think I would have splurged on for myself, but seeing it in person, I think it would be an amazing gift for new parents and even worth buying for yourself. It’s so precious.

Top Five that money can’t buy:

  6. The quilt hanging in the wall was made by my great grandmother and was my baby quilt! My mom surprised me with it at my shower.

  7. The framed art and picture. The top is a painting of baby garibaldis (sooooo cute!), which is the state fish of California. The bottom is a photo of my husband riding on his dad’s shoulders as a toddler.

  8. This book collection. We asked people to just gift baby with a book (they gave us soooo much more in addition), and we ended up with the most wonderful collection of funny and sweet books that will continue to remind us that we have an amazing family and network of friends.

  9. Box full of Beany Babies. Sentimental gift to baby from my mom.

  10. The yellow giraffe basket. My best friend gave us this and told me that she had bought when I was pregnant the first time (with a baby I lost to miscarriage). For some reason it just makes me so happy that there’s something meant for that baby in this room. ❤️🌈

For everyone in the comments asking about the projector, pretty sure it's this one:

https://www.amazon.com/BlissLights-Sky-Lite-Projector-Ambiance/dp/B07L8R5PK6/

u/bbfev · 30 pointsr/beyondthebump

We use the Hatch Rest.

It has a multicolored light that allows you to pick the color or brightness. And there’s several noise options built in including nature noises, static, and lullabies.

You control it with your phone and can set up schedules for bed time, nap time, morning wake up. Or you can just adjust it as needed.

It’s $60, which seems steep, but for all of the options and how long we plan to use it, I think it’s worth the investment.

I installed soft close cabinet door dampers on my cabinets. They seemed kind of chintzy when I got them, but they've worked great.

Battery-Powered Motion-Sensing LED Stick-Anywhere Nightlight
on my staircase

Lubricating door hinges. They say to use plumbers grease because it's odorless and colorless. You don't want to be using WD-40 or you'll stink up your whole house.

Preset Countdown Timer Switch for Bathroom Exhaust Fan

New top and bottom shocks on my glass storm door.

Leak detectors under all toilets. It's better than noticing when the water is an inch deep.

u/OliverBrodersen · 14 pointsr/battlestations

Yes! They are HUE play lights

u/poldim · 12 pointsr/homeautomation

I’d recommend you use these aluminum channels for the cabinets otherwise you will get the LED lights in your eyes. Place them at the front of the cabinet facing the rear, with the cables running on the side of the cabinet.

you’re most likely going to want to split up your power supplies so that you don’t have to run the cables all over the place.

If I were you, I'd consider individually addressable LEDs: http://www.thesmarthomehookup.com/the-complete-guide-to-selecting-individually-addressable-led-strips/

As of today I'm 39 weeks and our nursery is complete! The quilt was handmade by my husband's late grandmother, the crocheted blanket and punch needle embroidery piece was made by me, and the orange abstract print was made my husband during his time in undergrad BFA.

I've loved seeing everyone's nurseries come together over the last few months while I've followed this sub. Good luck to all those still working on theirs :)

  • That's pretty awesome
  • You're lucky to love a band where eight albums is less than half of their discography
  • It bugs me that some of them are plastic jewel cases and some are paper
  • I listen to too much music to listen to just one band
  • Did you clean your desk just for this photo?
  • I see CDs and think "How antiquated"
  • At the same time I have a growing collection of vinyl
  • Really just TMBG? No Cake? No Presidents of the USA?
  • This might keep you up at night, make sure to get a nightlight
  • Is Don't Let's Start about a romantic relationship or father/daughter?
  • That pencil needs to be sharpened
  • If you had to choose which would you get signed?
  • I'd probably buy Here Come the ABCs just to listen to "E Eats Everything"
  • How do your friends/relatives feel about only listening to TMBG while you're around?

YES! We got this one.

My kids will be 2 next month. Before we got the clock they would wake up and immediately start screaming and crying. Now they wake up and see that it isn't green yet and either go back to sleep or talk to themselves or each other until it turns green. As soon as it turns they excitedly start talking about the light.

This light has made my mornings so much better!

You can also look up “LED vanity lights” for other options/price points.

u/TheLittleKicks · 5 pointsr/succulents

It depends on which red/blue lights you got. A lot of the ones sold on amazon aren’t very strong. Some of them work ok.

The white lights you’re seeing are probably a brand of T5s. Here is an example. The specs that work best for succulents are a light temperature of 6500k, and around 2000 lumens per square foot.

u/-kodoku- · 4 pointsr/creepyasterisks

I think it's a LED night light actually. It looks exactly like the ones sold on Amazon. Here's an example of one. Searching for 'cat light' shows others just like it.

I hope you guys like my bumblebee nursery! Most of the stuff was secondhand/ hand me downs other than what we got for the baby shower. The thing I'm most proud of is the decorations above the crib. The flowers were my husband's idea! I hot glued sparkly scrapbook bee stickers into them and also painted the sign. The honeycomb decor by the couch didn't turn out quite as well as I hoped but I'm still proud! And the "sweet as can bee" sign that's hard to see on the bedside table was hand painted by one of my childhood friends, I can't believe how adorable it is!

We programmed it to be red during his "sleeping time" and used different colors for when it was ok to get up/ask to cuddle etc, and essentially told him that when it's red it's time to stay in bed unless you have to go potty. Hey guys! So I've been building my vanity for a few months and just needed some good lights. I had a lot of product and it was disorganised, and now everything is within reachable distance, thanks to your suggestions.

I wanted to share it since in case someone else needed inspo for a custom vanity that didn't cost an arm and a leg. It cost about $250 for everything, and I'll list the products, prices, and where I got them below:

Vanity: ($169.00)
https://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/10203610/

Mirror: ($19.99)
https://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/20320312/

Lights: ($22.99)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075XLRHNQ?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Acrylic Cosmetics Organiser: (about $40 for 2)
I could find the original, since I picked them up at TJ Maxx, but identical products can be found on Amazon
www.amazon.com/dp/B06XSLNQKX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cLtTBbN42P12C

EDIT: Thought I'd add some pros and cons as well. The downside of the vanity is, there are about 3 inches of drawer space that don't pull out, so I use them to store boxed lashes in the back, as well as my boxes of rings and chokers since I don't wear a lot of jewelry.
The Morphe palettes I have are large, so you can see I've placed them on top of the organiser, since I reach for them a lot.
The vanity also has a glass top, so it's good because it's easier to clean and you can slide photos under it of you want. It's also great because the wood doesn't get damaged from wear and tear or spills.
I also keep my brushes organised by face/eyes - they're just all dirty right now 😭
I also have a separate rack where I keep my serums and liquid foundations/primers since I like to keep them upright (it's just to the side so the area remains decluttered).

The biggest key is to use glass, not plexi. Plexi will scratch very easily. Find a pane of glass you want to use, build a simple frame, install a series of fluorescent bulbs, and then use something as a diffuser. You can get special light diffusing vinyl that will cling to the glass or you can use etched glass.

u/catchthemagicdragon · 3 pointsr/BeardedDragons

Yup, that CHE will work. But honestly how cold does it get in your house at night? I don't run any kind of night heat and my guy is good, it naturally gets pretty damn cold at night where they naturally live. Doesn't get below 68 really at night. And I would recommend something more like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HJ75PW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1458077738&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=t8+light+fixture+ge&dpPl=1&dpID=31%2BLp4bBp7L&ref=plSrch. You can find under cabinet light fixtures like these at Walmart, Home Depot, anywhere really. They're much slimmer, actually allowing it to be mounted inside the tank, and much cheaper. With that particular one I linked you would have to remove the plastic cover, but no big. The fixture you linked is a hood that sits over the screen, and the screen filters out most of the UBV which you absolutely do not want. That's really all they sell with pet branded stuff.

First things first: GORGEOUS plant room! I'm a tad envious :)

Heat issues: if your windows are single-pane glass, you're going to suffer heat loss no matter what you do. Maybe next year's budget could include double-pane insulated windows? Those have made a huge difference in our house's energy efficiency.

One thing that's worked well for me is an [oil-filled radiator] (https://www.homedepot.com/b/Heating-Venting-Cooling-Heaters-Space-Heaters-Electric-Heaters-Oil-filled-Radiant-Heaters/N-5yc1vZc8od). They're relatively inexpensive, fairly energy efficient, and do a great job warming up a room. Our cats spend most of their day huddled around ours! If you're willing to spend a little extra, you can get a programmable one so you don't have to turn it on/off all the time. They roll away tidily during the warm season, and are virtually indestructible - your kids will inherit it.

You could try hanging [clamp lights] (https://www.amazon.com/Bayco-SL-302B3-Brooder-Porcelain-Ceramic/dp/B0061MZ4Q6) over your plants, but I don't think this is going to be any more efficient (space, energy cost, materials expense) than an oil filled radiator. A combo of full spectrum and infrared heat bulbs will provide heat and some extra light on dark days, but you're probably going to need at least 10 to cover all your plants. Also, you'll have to monitor plant reactions to make sure they don't get "sunburned."

Hope these ideas help; good luck!

u/Momar89 · 3 pointsr/homeautomation

My wife and I had a similar need recently. First we tried these guys. You can attach them to the wall with double sided tape or using the built in magnet. They sort of work, but it needs to be dark for them to turn on, which is a problem.

The second item we tried were these guys and I love them so far (had them for a week or so). You can set them to turn on even in daylight. It has adhesive backing so we taped it to the inside wall above the closet door. Jury is still out on how long the batteries will last. But they are very inexpensive.

u/BasicBrewing · 3 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Battery powered motion lights? Would have to change batteries as needed. Not stylish enough maybe (although being a new parent, learn that function is going ot have to overtake fashion real soon)

Motion light bulb? No batteries, but requires you leave the light switch on. Also likely dependent on the fixture you have in the hall. There are options on entire new fixtures, too, which probably look better (or at least less obvious), but a little bite more work to install.

Motion ligh switch. Would only work if you are near the switch, though (not sure what "easy access in the dark" means). You could install this yourself, its 3 or 4 wires tops.

Motion may not be the way to go if you have pets

Really sorry that I've only noticed your reply just now. Hopefully you've figured it all out, but if not, see below for the items I use:

Light Fixture: http://www.amazon.com/Lights-America-7020-Fluorescent-Light/dp/B00004WA4D

ReptiSun 10.0 24": http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-ReptiSun%C2%AE-Fluorescent-24-Inch/dp/B0009YHSWK

3mm Mounting Tape: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Heavy-Mounting-1-Inch-50-Inch/dp/B00004Z4A8

Remove the plastic shroud and included bulb from the light fixture. Affix a full-length strip of the mounting tape along the back, and place the fixture inside the tank, centered and near the top. You'll have to snake its power cord through the tank's lid. Then pop in the ReptiSun bulb and switch it on. You're good to go, just be sure to replace the bulb roughly every 8-9 months.

I don't have many front-on images of my beardies' tanks, so here's an image of my crafty escape artist using his log and the light fixture to break out.

u/theadj123 · 2 pointsr/BeardedDragons

Home Depot or Lowes have lighting departments, you're looking for an under the counter fluorescent fixture. You can also order one from Amazon, for example here's one for 25 bucks I found including the keyword search (and I have this same fixture myself) https://www.amazon.com/Lights-America-7020-Fluorescent-Light/dp/B00004WA4D/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1538554434&sr=8-7&keywords=24+under+cabinet+lighting+t8 The fixtures for these lights aren't special so any fluorescent fixture will work, only the bulb output is special.

Go light on the spinach, this is a good place to start http://www.greenigsociety.org/foodchart.htm. I keep a list of foods in my phone for shopping cause my memory is terrible. Its not a big deal if they miss a day of eating, just don't make it a habit. You need the correct kind of UV lamp iguana needs are different than a lot of other reptiles. https://www.amazon.com/ReptiSun-5-0-UVB-Fluorescent-Bulb/dp/B000255OS6/ref=pd_nav_hcs_bia_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4602TGDXDE514QDE3HBK with https://www.amazon.com/GE-18-Inch-Fluorescent-Fixture-16466/dp/B000HJ75PW/ref=pd_nav_hcs_bia_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4602TGDXDE514QDE3HBK was the cheapest I found, change them about once a year. If you get this lamp remove the clear plastic covering the light. I use blended berry tums as a calcium supplement (vet recommended) no phosphorus, vit A and D3, this is what you want for iguanas. collared greens and dandelion greens are great staples so if you in an area where gardening is easy and have a yard order some seeds, they are cheap and dandelions take very little care. Organic soils and not insecticide or chemicals. It will help with money. If and when you need a vet you might have trouble finding a reptile vet (or exotics vet). This site is wonderful for health issues, http://www.anapsid.org/, this way you go to the vet having a good idea of what is going on already. Its a lot of information but once you have it down its not hard.

u/SGRainz · 2 pointsr/reptiles

So I don’t know exactly how much I’ve spent on my beardie since he was given to me with almost everything I needed to care for him, but I can give you the basics.

First off, for the flooring you can use paper towels to start, or contact cabinet paper that can be found at a dollar tree. I don’t think tile is that expensive, but if you’re unable to get some at the moment those work just fine. I also suggest covering the back and sides of the tank so the beardie doesn’t see its reflection and get stressed

You’ll need at least one hide on the cooler side, which can be made from something as simple as a small cardboard box with a hole cut in it or some bricks that are arranged into a cave-like hide

A basking area can be made from bricks purchased at Lowe’s or Home Depot, or if you choose to use any driftwood/rocks you find just make sure you clean them properly

Calcium powder is also extremely important to help your beardie not develop MBD. I’m part of a Facebook bearded dragon group that suggests this brand sprinkled over greens/bugs three times a week: https://www.chewy.com/repashy-superfoods-calcium-plus/dp/166276 I poke some holes in the paper lid with a toothpick to create a shaker-type deal so I’m not wasting any calcium

I think one of the most expensive parts is the UVB light since they can get pretty pricey, and since they need to be changed every six months. Here’s an 18”, along with a fixture that could be used, but obviously with a longer tank you’ll need a longer size: https://www.chewy.com/zoo-med-t8-reptisun-100-uvb/dp/126590 https://www.amazon.com/GE-Fluorescent-Included-Workbench-16466/dp/B000HJ75PW again, I usually stay away from reptile brands for things such as fixtures because the cheaper version works better and lasts longer. The T8 bulb needs to be hooked into the tank, which I use zip ties to the lid but Velcro to the side also works, as long as it’s 12” away from the basking area

Heat lamp with dimmer: https://www.chewy.com/flukers-clamp-lamp-dimmer-85-in/dp/129140

Pack of 90w flood lights (make sure they’re halogen, not LED): https://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-90-Watt-PAR38-Halogen-Indoor-Outdoor-Flood-Light-Bulb-2-Pack-466268/205541724

Digital temp gun: https://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Lasergrip-774-Non-contact-Thermometer/dp/B00837ZGRY

Light timer for both lights: https://www.amazon.com/Century-Heavy-Digital-Programmable-Timer/dp/B00MVF16JG

Vet bills and fecal tests can be pricey as well, depending on where you live. My last vet appointment with mine, which did include a test for parasites, cost around $300

While I don’t know how much I’ve spent on my beardie, I can safely estimate it’s $700+, give or take a bit. One of the most expensive is buying the greens and bugs for him. I’m growing a garden to feed him but since it’s not ready yet, I have to constantly buy him collards, turnip and mustard greens, along with various fruits and veggies which can go bad very quickly. I’m in the process of looking into buying his superworms online where you can get a better deal, but at the moment I’m paying 100 for $10 at my local exotic pet shop, which he goes through quickly.

I don’t know how old you are, but if you say you’re not old enough to properly take care of a reptile I would wait a few years or so until you get another. Bearded dragons, while more of a beginner reptile than others, still require a lot of time and effort to make sure they stay healthy. I would recommend doing a lot research throughout the next few months (look at multiple sources, don’t just listen to people at a pet store because often they don’t know what they’re talking about), and if possible, perhaps slowly start gathering the needed supplies in order to properly care for one

I hope I covered everything since reddit refreshed and deleted my first response before I finished, but if you have any more questions you can always message me (:

u/masamunecyrus · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Are you talking about these? I just got some Mr. Beams motion sensing lights for my closet, and they work pretty nicely. Mr. Beams also makes these night lights. I imagine they should be good.

Otherwise, I'd go with /u/fivethirds's suggestion. I personally have some GE branded version of those, and I like them. As (s)he said, they're basically just like a giant indiglo watch face. There is literally just enough light to not step on something, and nothing more.

Lettuce likes cooler temps and needs less light than veggies. But you'll need more than just a bulb or two. If you want to use CFLs and keep it cheap, you can use a couple brooder lamps with splitters. Each lamp will hold 2 bulbs - one at 2700k and the other at 6500k. This will provide a broader spectrum and I've found it's perfectly adequate for lettuce. The number of lamps you need will depend in how many plants you have. You need to have every part of the plant illuminated and keep the bulbs pretty close to the leaves.

u/Finkelton · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

Correct.

I made the same mistake my first go round.

also, i'd really suggest some of http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061MZ4Q6/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with Y-splitter adapters and 2 100w eq 2700k CFL bulbs placed within 2-3 inches of the plants with the LED lighting. (kind of center the led lights, then surround from the outside shining into the plant with the clamp lights.. the clamps can hold/hang perfectly fine on something as simple as garden string)

It makes a huge difference, I have two procyon 100's and 8 (well 16) 100w cfls

I put them in the darker corners of my yard and everywhere around the house! Game changer! The three AAA batteries they require last nearly a full year, and the mounting options are myriad!

They aren't truly "waterproof", but I've had great luck with them in semi-dry locations- under the deck above the downstairs patio, along paths on rocks and posts, both on the outside of, and in storage sheds, etc.

Edit: These are the lights I'm talking about.

Candles, lava lamps, LED lights. Be creative and create an ambiance.

Also, lots of pillows, hyper comfy blankets. Like (expensive (pro tip: go to home goods and they are magically cheap)) fur ones. Girls love that shit.

Music is a must obviously. Get music that you both love. Decide beforehand if you want sweet sensual love making, or crazy make-my-ass-bleed-daddy sex. Then curate a playlist to that mood.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, for me, setting has always been the most important factor.

I love giving my SO oily massages. I warm up some massage oil, then give her a slow sensual full body massage. Drives her crazy. Eventually we get more into and I use my body to massage hers. That's when she starts going nuts, I never get to finish the massage...

Also while rolling is a fun way to to explore new fantasies. My SO and I are always revealing new fantasies to eachother. I like to surprise her when we roll with some new toys / equipment.

My little guy is 3months old :) Here is my list of life-savers!

  • Halo Sleep Sacks: These are amazing! My LO can break out of muslin blankets like Chris Farley from a little coat. Then he'd proceed to get cold hands or jerk awake all throughout the night resulting in awful sleep. Now he gets excited when we put him in it and he sleeps through the night (7-9 hours).

  • Millions of burp cloths!: I used Gerber cloth diapers for this purpose. Inexpensive, light weight, easy to pack and absorbent.

  • Soothies: I know this is a debated topic whether you should introduce your baby to pacifiers or not, but we did (and I was exclusively breastfeeding) and we found it's just enough to keep him soothed on car trips and when getting a little fussy, without needing to constantly feed.

  • Ergo Carrier: We used this from day 1! It was wonderful with the infant insert to have our freedom of both hands but keep our little guy comforted and warm. He loves it.

  • Piano play gym: Our son loves this thing! It's got a little mirror and a kick piano at the bottom and lots of loops to hook your own dangling toys from (we use Lamaze toys for this). He loves looking up at himself and it's definitely strengthened his legs and helps his hand-eye coordination as he reaches out for the toys.

  • Jungle Jumperoo: Ok, this thing is hideous and big. It's a space-hog, it's obnoxiously colored and awful to look at for a natural, minimalistic family (it was a hand-me-down). But .. it's amazing for helping his neck! We put him in it around 2.5 months (a little early) but it's easy to prop a bottle on it to feed him and it keeps him off his back (and head for those mothers trying to prevent flat-head) and he loves bouncing in it. His neck muscles have strengthened triple-fold since we started putting him in it for lengths of time. He sits next to his daddy's desk and they hang out together.

    And my favorite buy! ....

  • It's an aroraborialis projector. My son is obsessed with it!! We put it on when he's hanging out in his crib or being changed. If he's super fussy and nothing will soothe him, we'll bring him in his room, shut the lights and put this on. It's gorgeous and it immediately takes his attention off of being upset. The whole room is filled with teals, blues, purples and red. It's the coolest thing I bought for him, hands down, and it's not even a baby item!

These produce a diffuse cast light, but hotspots are visible on the diffuser surface. Keep this in mind if mounting them somewhere where you will be able to see the diffuser surface.
Get two of something like this so you have two strip controllers. Mount the diffusers parallel and run a strip and controller on each side.

I’ve no side hustle or self-employment at the moment so I don’t have any Cortexy advice, but what I do have like you is a 4yo and a nearly-1yo.
One thing I’ll say is that our key for our mornings is having a hatch white noise machine/nightlight for our toddler (paired with only quiet toys in her bedroom). It’s app-connected and you can schedule different schemes for it, so it turns on (ocean sounds, and it can do any hue so she picked a soft pink/purple) at bedtime every night, and it turns green with no sound at 8am every morning. That way, no matter what time she wakes up, she knows she has to stay in her room and stay quiet until her light turns green. She’s grown out of her afternoon naps now but we also had a separate scheme for that so she could differentiate naps from nighttime when she was getting old enough to still need a nap but not want to be shut in her room forever during the day. It helped her to know it was just ‘a short nap not a long nap’ (her words) like going to bed for the whole night. And further into that transition period, the afternoon light just meant ‘quiet time’ so whether she felt like sleeping or wanted to stay up and read, she still had to stay in her room and quiet for an hour or two until her light turned green.

u/swalker09 · 2 pointsr/parentsofmultiples

Just something to consider: music actually stimulates babies, not necessarily helps them sleep. If you want something to help them sleep, a white noise sound machine is the way to go. Pretty much any sleep training guide you can find will recommend one.

We love our Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine. It doubles as a nightlight with different colors supposedly helping for different stages of the day or sleep and has a ton of white noise options as well as music so you have the option of sleep or stimulation.

Mirari OK to Wake! Alarm Clock & Night-Light https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EAHSBV4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KjiSCbFPTEFE3
He accepted it pretty easily because he loved the light up and little smile the clock did. We set it to show him what to look for and when the light went on we did a little dance saying ooooo he is smiling and dancing ready to wake up! My neighbor has a 2.5 yr old and just had a baby and she uses an okay to wake too but hers changes the color for when it is time to wake. My kid likes it dark so the Mirari works great for him since it only lights up when it is time to get up.

Actually, what I did is bought stick on vanity lights for the mirror in my bathroom. There’s no magnification, if that’s what you’re looking for here, but it absolutely fixed my light problem. I usually will just sit on the counter if I need to get really in there.

Here’s the kind I bought: https://www.amazon.com/Chende-Hollywood-Dimmable-Lighting-Dressing/dp/B075XLRHNQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=vanity+mirror+light+bulbs+stick+on&qid=1562183873&s=gateway&sr=8-3

The cord is kinda ugly, but the lights are bright enough that they light my entire bathroom! They really work!!!

u/romanticheart · 2 pointsr/blogsnark

I actually put it together with random stuff! Breakdown, with links:

Drawers: IKEA, $40/each (I already owned these which helped!)
Table top: IKEA, $9
Mirror: Lowes, $28
Lights: Amazon, $30

The lights are my favorite, they are so cheap for how crazy bright they are, and they dim. They stick on and the wires wrap around the base of each light so you can choose how far apart they are.

u/H00tyMcB00b · 2 pointsr/makeuporganization

I purchased some from Amazon a year ago and they're still working great! No issues at all and super simple to apply. They have peel and stick adhesive on the back of each one and a dimmer switch as well. Here's a link for them as well as a pic of my daughter's finished vanity. HTH!

Look at the specs of the light. You need 6500k for color temperature and at least 2000 lumens. You can use any light it doesn't have to say it's a grow light. Bulbs can works but will probably need a deflector to focus the light on the plants.

I love the tapestries! As for lighting I think even just plain string / christmas lights would do a lot. I think I may honestly recommend just trying some of these first and then moving on to more if you aren't satisfied. You could probably get some good ones from stores for cheap if you're willing to get a little halloweeny. Otherwise, I just got a bunch from 1000bulbs which were super cheap. They probably aren't great quality, but they've lasted the 3 weeks I've had them pretty well. For strips I've been very satisfied with my $12 Walmart light strips. If you want something more I know a lot of people like projectors like this night sky one or this wave one that I think could both look pretty good there.

u/MelodramaticMe · 1 pointr/BeardedDragons

You should be dusting Louie's bugs with a multivitamin powder once a week, and he should be getting bugs dusted with calcium (with D3) 3 times a week. The UVB bulbs you have are not good for bearded dragons and can cause eye issues (such as swelling). It is a shame that they sell those with pictures of beardies on the box and in those tank kits for bearded dragons. It pisses me off, to be honest. :(

Herptivite is a good multivitamin powder that uses a natural form of vitamin A so you don't have to worry about vitamin A toxicity.

You need to switch your UVB bulbs to a long tube fluorescent. I'm assuming he is in a 40 gallon tank? The Reptisun 10.0 (the brand is important, there is another called ReptiGLO which sucks) is the way to go. In a 40 gallon tank, you want the 24 inch bulb. This light fixture works with it. You can mount it in various ways, this thread talks about how to set up your lighting. These type of UVB bulbs need to be replaced every 6 months because the UVB output declines even though it is still producing visible light.

If you haven't read it, Andrew's care guide is very helpful. :)

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/BeardedDragons

Here is a thread that describes how to set up the lighting.

Is the 82F the basking spot or just the ambient temp on that side of the cage? You want the basking spot to be 105-110F for a baby. You can getting a higher wattage bulb - you can buy regular incandescent bulbs instead of the reptile ones if cost is an issue, just make sure it is not coated with any color like the Reveal bulbs.

Actually, I'm a little confused. The UVB is normally a fluorescent coil (which is bad) or a tube (only some brands are ideal for beardies). If you are using a regular CFL bulb for heat, you won't get very far as they don't put off much heat. You want this UVB bulb, this fixture works with it and can be found at Walmart for about $8 in the lightbulb aisle, and you need a bulb for heat as described above.

Let me know if you need more assistance. You might want to read the Care Guide in the side bar that merlyn wrote - it is very good.

u/squeakqueg · 1 pointr/BeardedDragons

I have my UVB in one of these, stuck to the inside corner of the tank with a bunch of heavy-duty velcro 3M strips.

u/squishybloo · 1 pointr/snakes

Although corns don't need UVB, I imagine a full spectrum light like used for beardies etc (like ReptiSun) should be able to provide the light for any plants you'd want in your viv. All you'd need to do would be to buy a cheap bulb fixture and swap out the bulb for a an 18" ReptiSun! Then you can either set it to a timer or turn it on/off yourself every day.

That's what they look like. I use these on my 60gal with CFL's and they do the trick. Just spray paint them black and they don't even look bad.

u/HeyNomad · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

I have two 26-watt and two 32-watt 6500k bulbs above my 55g (soil substrate with sand cap, DIY red-clay root tabs, and Excel dosing 3x weekly), in 10.5-inch reflectors pointing downward with a photoperiod of about 10 hours a day. I have swords, vals, hygrophila, and pretty much everything else I've tried have done well with very healthy growth and basically no algae problems. I tried HC, though, and that wasn't such a success; none of it has died, but in about five months, it hasn't spread noticeably. Other light/CO2-hungry carpeting plants (DHG, glosso) have done only slightly better. I assume my poor HC growth is more a matter of inadequate CO2 than of inadequate light.

I bought my bulbs online since I wasn't able to find 6500k bulbs in stores, but they weren't anything special--I think GE brand. From what I've heard, the consensus is that shelling out for specialty CFL bulbs from hydroponics stores, etc., (assuming comparable color temp, watts & lumens, etc.) probably isn't worth it.

I spent maybe $60-70 on the whole lighting set-up (including a bar and chains to hang the lights from), which is pretty good, but with a 48" Finnex Planted+ going for like $140 on Amazon, I really wonder if the CFL route is no longer such a cost-effective way to go.

First things first, how large is the tank you have? For a juvenile, you will need a minimum of a 20 gallon. These guys grow fast when kept properly and well fed, so you can expect him to outgrow that within a few months. Do keep an eye on craigslist and other similar sites, or even check around with local aquarium supply stores when you're looking to upgrade him. (They may give you a really good deal on a lightly damaged tank because it won't hold water, but is in good condition for a reptile.)

For the light, it looks like the one you've linked might have a plastic base. For heat lamps, it's best to go with something that has a heat resistant base such as this. You do not have to get this one specifically, just remember to look for something with a ceramic/porcelain or otherwise heat tolerant base.

As for the decor, it is perfectly fine to use things you've found outside, as long as you've sanitized them thoroughly. Here is a pretty good article on sanitizing wood for use in your dragon's enclosure. Rocks can be cleaned in a similar manner, but as a warning do not bake rocks. However unlikely it may be, some rocks can explode when baked if there is moisture inside them.

Finally, I want to note that young dragons can get very expensive to feed. When they're small, there are fewer safe prey items to feed opposed to an adult, and their diet should largely consist of protein. Pellet diets can be added as a supplement but they should not be fed these exclusively or to replace either part of their diet, and it often takes work to get them to eat it. I would definitely suggest keeping an eye on your local craigslist and see if you can adopt an adult, they are much easier on the wallet and you get to help a dragon in need.

Best of luck!

u/more_load_comments · 1 pointr/IndoorGarden

Thanks! I'll check on the bulb. Something like a 6200K 23 watt I think. Daylight with blue end mostly. CFL to keep heat at 80 deg works perfect at 10 inches away. About 10 bucks on amazon plus another 10 for the reflector is best I could find. Will get a 2800k for the peppers and tomatoes to induce flowering after I get them on the hydro for a month or two. The lettuce stays on blueish since it's all veg growth you want.

Thanks for all your help! After considering all this, I found a smaller version of this product (here) that uses a single LED to diffuse light. I was thinking about using something like these because they run on regular rechargeable AAs and have the added convenience of a remote.

I'm looking for either one that is larger and brighter or considering arranging 6 of these into a circle. Only concern with the later approach is making sure the light diffuses evenly, but as you mentioned before, we could achieve that by using a strip of plexiglass to wrap around the circumference and adjusting the opacity by lightly sanding it.

I just figured that these solutions would be a bit more convenient and potentially less expensive.

I've not done this but have a few thoughts.

  1. LEDs will need to be waterproof (this should be obvious)
  2. Depending on how far the steps are from your home you may want to consider having your DC supply in a waterproof box next to the steps.
  3. Probably want to put the strips in a channel with a diffuser

Personally I would go with an open-source build (not sure of current state of non-cloud hue support) using and RGBW 2.4Ghz strip controller.

1.) Secondhand IKEA crib; my friend used this with all three of her kids. It is the Snigler crib. Super basic but super reliable.

2.) Dresser: secondhand, purchased on Facebook marketplace. Also has changing table topper but we omitted using that and just secured the changing pad to back of dresser.

3.) Elephant decals: Wall Pops WPK0841 WPK0841 Tag... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E2XCOB4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

4.) Hatch sound machine: we used this with our first (still do) and it was a sleep game changer. In my opinion, the best white noise machine on market. Also doubles as an ok to wake clock and is operable from your smart phone!

5.) Ubbi diaper pail: we’ve tried several diaper pails over the years and this is the most smell proof and easy to use. It has a lock mechanism to prevent curious hands from digging through dirty diapers and can use regular garbage bags.

I have one of those and it works great. Bluetooth so you can control with your phone and it has schedules. You can also use it when they get older to signal when they can get out of bed. It has color changing capability.

What are you looking to spend? If money is no object, get a Snoo bassinet! If that’s not realistic, we’ve loved this light/white noise machine- Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine, Night Light and Time-to-Rise https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XMRCC94/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CWgHDb7X9Z7ZQ. It’s programmable and you can turn it on remotely to help get your baby back to sleep without going into its room. We love ours!

My wife and I recommend the Hatch Baby Rest: https://smile.amazon.com/Hatch-Baby-Night-Light-Machine/dp/B06XMRCC94

You can get a sound machine for less BUT I love two things about this: I can control it from my phone without Internet and the company is amazing. The only issue that we've had so far is that the white noise setting fades in and out on our original one. They shipped us a replacement that turned out to be defective and then shipped out a replacement for that defective one. I kept the original one to use as a travel light and will be buying another one after our second child is born.

One of my take aways from the books was establishing connections between sleep and environment. Happiest baby recommended always using white noise for naps/sleeping because it’s soothing for babies and creates a healthy sleep association. Like being in a darkened room or swaddled. Basically you wouldn’t want to do any of these associations during alert time because it would confuse them, but naps and deep sleep you want to use similar triggers. Adding things like a bath or massage to the bedtime routine will help them learn more about the difference between naps and nighttime sleep. We use this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XMRCC94/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.DJTCbAF320W2

It’s a little more expensive but has Bluetooth so I can adjust while she’s in my lap, timers, and an adjustable nightlight.

Thoughts on this newer model? Not sure if it’s worth it considering I have a speaker already, but it says best seller and I really like the slow and intricate movement in OP’s video.

This is a little bit of a pricey combo but these two lights combine to create a really sweet effect

Aren't those these?

u/Monica613 · 1 pointr/makeuporganization

These lights!

They have an adhesive on the back that you just stick onto the mirror like a sticker. Then I taped all the wires back so they’re not as noticeable 😃

u/fiddy2014 · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I bought these lights to put on my vanity and they’re amazing! Super bright and mimics natural lighting really well! I also have a ring light mirror from Vanity Planet that has 3 different light settings which I like a lot, but I have to get up kinda close to it to be as bright as I want. It works well along with the Vanity lights though!

u/lxurenlaflare · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

You can just get a regular square mirror for like 20-30 and attach makeup lights from amazon. For some reason it isn’t letting me attach the link but here it is: Chende Hollywood Style LED Vanity Mirror Lights Kit with Dimmable Light Bulbs, Lighting Fixture Strip for Makeup Vanity Table Set in Dressing Room https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075XLRHNQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nfxPAb1E8G4WE

I just got my first set myself. I'm going to get these to try though. They have good reviews.

Would something like this work for a grow light? How far away should it be from my plants?

u/drebot_l · 1 pointr/succulents

I'm looking at getting [grow lights from amazon] (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07FF7C7KF/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AWAF1NHJQCE18&psc=1) as suggested multiple times in this thread and on this sub. If I attach them to a shelving unit, say 2 lights per shelf on four shelves, how bright will this be? Could I set this up in my home office and still sit in there and work during the day, or will it be much too bright for me?

Also, can I set up a shelving unit like that with grow lights in a spot that gets minimal natural light? Right now my succs are spread out on windowsills throughout my house, but I'm running out of room and even my brightest southern window does not get much bright light in zone 4b. The only spot I have to put a shelf like this is in the back of a room that gets some evening (west) light.

Thanks!

I just picked up the new light bars. They work great, even better than the old AMBX gaming lights I had years back!

1.) So I have been in lust with this bed but since it isn't on Amazon .... Let's go with this bed because this is my old bed before I had a baby - I loved this bed (mine was king sized) so much.

2.) Well this is great for sharing in bed ;) but I never seem to sleep immediately afterwards.

3.) you can never go wrong with yummy sushi pajamas

4.) I WANT THIS NIGHTLIGHT SO BAD!!! I love the fact that you can take the balls off and move them around!

5.) I found that one of the best way to help the baby and me sleep is to be close next to each other

And I am going to Guess Panda

She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread.
