Worst: ...does my entire Instacart order count? Like, I tried it out bc it was hot af out and I wanted to clean my room instead of wandering the grocery store for 3 hours like I normally do. Except instead of the "yes someone else does it for me", I had to like baby my phone because of all the substitutions, the prices aren't the same as they were on Instacart, blahblahblah. Instacart wasn't worth it, imo.

Best: this dumb lamp, that I also got an Edison bulb for. It adds such a nice unique touch to my bedroom. Edison bulbs look super cool!

I made it and it was super easy. My mom is a high school science teacher and a few years ago she gave me a bunch of her old labware. I have been slowly trying to figure out what to do with it all.
I bought this light fixture: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BTRYZHG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Evl2cXZmZhRQi
Which happens to fit a 100 ml beaker perfectly. I then had to buy a skinny Edison bulb. I got a 40W LED so the fixture didn't get overheated bc now it's completely covered.
I might try and find a shorter skinny Edison bulb because this one is bottoming out a little. For now, I'm just rolling with it.

Yes I got them online. I'll look through my receipts and see if I can find where I bought them. IIRC they were not very expensive.

I'll put up some better color photos of the theater and my speakers later.

I don't think that this is where I got them but Amazon has them now.

We have one in the upstairs office as well. My wife picked it up from Amazon.

Simplest solution seems to me a plug in wall sconce.

Not necessarily that design but one of these would probably be your best bet.

u/TK421isAFK · 2 pointsr/electricians

OK. The problem with clamping it to a pipe that gets warm is that the heat will soften the plastic, and might radiate too much heat for the lamp to handle. I wouldn't risk an expensive lamp on it.

What about something like this? I just picked one of those up from a second-hand shop for $3, new in the box. I wouldn't pay $60 for it, but it's pretty cool and takes up almost no room.

Mmmm, the ones I'm finding aren't quite the same. Nothing is exactly like this setup but, I think you could achieve similar results with something like these:

List of ideas with pictures, warning it's clickbait-y

Amazon very simple example, not quite the same, hence me saying you won't get a matching project without DIY

More examples here

You'll notice that a lot of these are DIY/custom which is a huge point--most really well-done LED lighting art pieces are done by hand, not bought from the store. It's really easy to do actually, as LED light strips are cheap right now, 15 ft multicolor for <$1/ft.

The takeaway here is creativity is king.

I was going to say decluttering would do wonders but from the looks of it you've got a handle on it. Not everything needs to be minimalistic.

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Picture one - nothing to really change, maybe give your bed more presence with two king euro pillows. You could even buy them in a mustard color so it incorporates the painting.
  2. People seem bother by this pictures, maybe because it's two similar things so close to one another. I would take out the shelf unit in favor of wall shelves.
  3. Exchange that bookcase with something closed. It looks like that is a Billy bookcase from Ikea in which case you can just throw on pre-made doors. Also, the space over the sewing machine is a prime place for art, personally I would choose something fabric/yarn. You can customize it to the colors in your painting.
  4. The desk in pic 4 is amazing and I want it in my house. My only suggested is to find a new home for that table lamp in favor of a plug-in wall scones.

Everything else is great, love the fall decor, hats and doggy!

I got the sconces on wayfair but I can't find them right now so here is the amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Progress-Lighting-P7103-31-Tri-Band-Sconce/dp/B001BQBQ6Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495559237&sr=8-1&keywords=home+theater+sconce

As for the panels, I got them from 4seating when I did a big chair purchase and took advantage of a nice deal they were having.

Thanks for the nice words!

The bed position looks like it will work either way, but you will have less room at your desk if you center it on the whole wall. I would center it on the section of wall left of the window or push it into the corner.

The desk looks great - no need for improvement except maybe a lamp, some shelving above it with a little led strip, or even a horizontal sconce. Hopefully you have a better chair than the folding one in the picture, but if not, maybe try something like this, this, or this. There is an upside to folding chairs I suppose - you can hang them for more space when not in use.

Your rug is neutral but doesn't do any favors for the room, and the circular shape may make positioning it a little awkward. Can't tell how big it is - can you center it under your desk? If you don't plan to put your dresser next to the window at the foot of the bed, you could put an accent chair and floor lamp in that corner with the round rug underneath.

The follow-up comment was kinda trying to give some hints for searching :)
I've realized that it's surprisingly hard to filter out for these things on Amazon, for some reason. I think it understands the exclusion syntax though, so for example if you keep getting a lot of results of a product that's clearly not what you even mean, you can exclude it form the search by typing -theword and gradually when you've done enough excluding, you start to get more and more relevant and better search results. But somehow either Amazon doesn't have very good filtering and tagging methods for the lamps category, or the English language just doesn't have specific enough terminology to tell apart types of lamp fixtures. I've kinda found it easier to search for lamps in German. Neither of the languages are my native language (and I have never studied German), so I am actually being objective by saying this.

Uplighter. Uplight. Searchlight. Spotlight. Floor spot. Desk spot. (Some types of) task light or reading lamp. Wall washer or just washer. (Some types of) sconce. Accent. (Some types of) artwork/painting/picture lights. Adjustable. Eye protection. Bedside. (Some types of) industrial/architect lamp. Clip, clamp on, gooseneck, if you're into those.

Oh yeah and sometimes reading lamps that are meant especially for industrial uses near bed, for example hotel or hospital lights, can offer very minimalistic and space-saving designs. When you see a wall fixture, you can always ask could it, and would it work if converted into a desk/floor version.

The idea of "eclipse" fixtures might sometimes work too. Not Ikea price range but not luxury price either: The design classic called 'Eclisse' is minimalistic and contains its own modifiable light "eclipser" to limit angle: http://www.noleggiocose.it/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Artemide-lampada-Eclisse-Vico-Magistretti-2.jpg
With older designs, many of them are still being manufactured and the new ones are more expensive and somewhat more refined and "shiny" in surface feel, while the prices of older individuals are more affordable. You may want to check Etsy or eBay for what kind of vintage nightstand lamps there happens to be for sale, as pairs. Older lamps, if well kept, sometimes offer more unique and intriguing shapes than what's currently available in stores, if you start to feel like everything current looks very similar. It's an option.

I'd probably be quite keen on some spherical spotlight because then its back looks so simple that you don't even process it that much. I always search for those types with the German term "kugellampe" and maybe add "tisch" for table or "spot" if needed. I'm not sure what you'd call those in English, I haven't seen the keywords being mentioned at all, to differentiate with a normal spotlight shaped spot. Globe, maybe?
Edit: Oh yeah, it's sometimes referred to as an eyeball! But as I thought, it's still nowhere near as effective as a search term as the German equivalent.

It sounds like with a “brick” wall you would be after texture and warmth. I think brick wallpaper often sounds better than it looks.

I would recommend some modern wall sconces (a pair) to add light, warmth, and interest, and perhaps a basket wall (cheap to buy baskets from the thrift stores and light to hang) to add texture.

Relatively cheap and very easy to install/remove!

The wall boards are "accent wall in a box" leftovers from my girlfriend's dad's project. Did them like this to use up as much as I could but not buy more. Here's a link to the lights: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C2SB7SW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_ujeXCb0WVJ420

Sorry. It's a wall sconce. I'm not too sure about the specs other than what is on Amazonf.

>Product Type: LED
>Light Color: Warm White
>Power Consumption: 5W
>Voltage: 85V-260V

My wife and I want to use them as bed-side lighting so we want to be able to plug it in to the wall and use a dimmer adapter.

There are ones out there that already do what we want, but we like this style. Is it possible to convert?

This is a great handsfree way to use ur iphone if you are using it to listen to music in the car, or as a navigation.

As for me, a poster for my new apartment would be awesome!
