Here is the list of gear. It is meant for both myself and my wife, so I doubled up in some places. (Links where I have them)

For the price of a single month’s worth of bottled water. Although I guarantee your municipal water company does a detailed annual report and mails it to it’s customers. You probably throw it away along with most people.

For all cycles: deep rinse on
Stain pre treat off

Prewash: colors, normal soil

Mainwash: heavy duty or whites, ex heavy soil

After the prewash, peel diapers off the sides of the drum and fluff them up. Add small items of clothing no larger than a receiving blanket if needed to get the drum exactly half full. The prewash can be less than half, but not more.

Detergent amounts stay the same.

It is recommended to test water hardness. Test kits can be found a Walmart, pool supply stores, hardware stores, pet stores, and online. You'll need to make sure the kit says it tests for Total Hardness or General Hardness. Testing water directly from the machine is best. If you plan to use hot water to wash, both hot and cold should be tested.
** Avoid the free Whirlpool and Water Boss brand tests as they have been known to give inaccurate results. Also, avoid the electric TDS tests as they do not test Hardness.

If you have a Petsmart nearby they test water samples for free. Canada Home Hardware tests for free, as well.

If you don't want to search for a kit, here's one you can order from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Industrial-Test-Systems-WaterWorks-481108/dp/B00DIJ0W30/ref=pd_sbs_60_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00DIJ0W30&pd_rd_r=73P6KBBT306FD9Z4H2ZS&pd_rd_w=2uur6&pd_rd_wg=Xae5E&psc=1&refRID=73P6KBBT306FD9Z4H2ZS

1/4 cup borax isnt enough for the mainwash if you have water harder than 180ppm.

You can also buy a water testing kit if you want. It's overkill to send it to a lab right away. You should do the kit first to see if it tests positive for lead, if it does then send the water out to a lab to see how much is in your water.

This is a brand I’ve seen them recommend quite a lot!

So i shpuld test for chloramine before I decide on which system I buy.

I think I'm going to try this kit. Any thoughts on it?

Now what i dont think i have a grasp on, is the need to reconstitute Carbonate Hardness and General Hardness. (Spelled out to confirm i have them right). Can you elaborate on that a little?

If it helps, I am going to be EI dosing. I'm currently dosing Excel, Florish Potassium, Florish Phosphorus, and Trace. I can add up to 3 more auto dosing on my second unit if need be.

We bought a water testing kit when we moved in (this one for the curious) and tested our tap water over concerns about lead, once everything came up fine (on the test ran twice, a week apart) we drink tap water sometimes now and use it for cooking. We also have a brita in the fridge that I use more frequently (mostly because I prefer the colder water tbh, but nice to have the extra security).
