wait wtf. https://www.amazon.com/CIOR-Barefoot-Quick-Dry-Drainage-Boating/dp/B07N7PP9HF?th=1

These are literally the exact same shoe and even have the same grip. Only thing its missing are the straps.

For people set on having camp shoes, I've started using water socks with a thin rubber sole. They are just enough to protect my feet while not letting small pebbles and sticks in. Something like this:

In the past I’ve just used lightweight produce bags you get in a grocery store and slip those over my dry socks and then wear my trail runners. After my last incredibly wet/hot/humid trip, I decided to I buy a pair of these to give them a try:
VIFUUR Water Sports Unisex/Kids... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07499GRR7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Note that they’re less than 5 oz for the pair which makes them lighter than any other options in this price range as far as I could find anyway.

I also bought a pair of SealSkinz gortex socks. We will see which works out better.

Flip-flops when I'm guarding, but I teach aquafit in these water shoes. It has removable soles and holes on the bottom, dries in 4 hours in the sun or overnight in a well ventilated area. Comfortable and supportive but won't fall off when I'm going in and out of the water (if that's what you want)

I run in water shoes during the winter. I run either barefoot or in water shoes the rest of the year.

Water shoes aren't water proof, but I haven't found anything better to run in during the winter. As long as I'm running, it doesn't bother my feet.

a pair of something like this will sort you right out - https://www.amazon.com/Quick-Dry-Outdoor-Athletic-Kayaking-Boating/dp/B0796T1ZLZ/

Absolutely. Yes, those for example. And those here are my winter emergency shoes at the moment. I just stick them in my pants and go running, I barely ever need them. Expensive minimalist running shoes are just a way to keep making money when people realize they should not put cushions under their heels while running.

I wouldn't try minimalist shoes ! Only if you run completely without shoes will you find the correct running style. The very first week I made that mistake and it was like a revelation when I shed the minimalist shoes as well. It's really hard to change your running style with minimalist shoes. Go completely barefoot and only take emergency slippers with you. You have to be able to roll them up though, the sole has to be very thin and very flexible. The more like socks the better.

Only do max 20 minutes really slowly. If you are not a forefoot runner your lower legs will be very strained.

Two month and no blisters anymore. For ever. ( well, you know what I mean).

I haven't heard of or tried FitKicks, but they seem similar to a generic water shoe I have tried on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M5ZV2G9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VGZyDbTWXTPJW

This one has a removable sole, and with it taken out the bottom is very thin. The rest of the shoe is made of a thin neoprene material, and for me it lasts about a month before a hole or two appears in the top of the shoe near the joints in my toes.

I'm not sure if the FitKicks are made the same, but from the pics they seem similar.

So far my first pair of the Speedo shoe hasn't broken anywhere, it still looks pretty new 😁

I will try getting a pair of FitKicks, it's always fun to try a new thin shoe and anything $20 and under is just icing on the cake! Thanks for the info!

| Did you wear trail runners and how did they turn out for you? Currently planning on bringing mine still.

I wore trail runners, Topo Terraventures, to be precise. They were awesome. Like a lot of people here, I never wear boots and don't care about waterproofing. I wore older model REI short gaiters and they were perfect for keeping sand and detritus out. No need for knee-high gaiters, but they're better than nothing if that's all you have.

I carried these camp shoes, which were awesome on the beach. Size 12-13 Mens are 8.4oz total on my scale. Worth every gram. I'd change into them as soon as I got to camp, and my feet loved me for it.

| How much money did you spend at Nitinat Narrows?

We went a bit nuts at the crab shack. Spent probably close to $70 CAD. I had a crab, loaded baked potato and a beer for $57 CAD. Then I also had a grilled cheese and Mt. Dew second course, but I don't recall the price. Later that night, I regretted not buying at least one Canadian candy bar (I'm American) and a bag of Fritos to put in my chili mac. Monique's is closed, so just the one meal on the trail.

| Do you have cell service at the both trailheads?

I didn't try. I went North to South and took the West Coast Trail Express to Victoria both ways. We lost cell coverage on the bus ride up, so I put my phone in airplane mode pretty early on. I tried a few times on the trail, but it never worked. Some people said you can pick up towers from Seattle, but I never did. I took a Garmin InReach Mini to text home with, so I don't think I used cell service again until the bus ride back to Victoria. Highly recommended if you're considering a satellite device, btw.

That sounds difficult.

These shoes might do the trick: L-RUN Women's Water Shoes Slip On Swim Shoes Grey L(W:8.5-9.5,M:7-7.5)=EU39-40 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PH4B6CP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_O5rSCbB7S58YQ

From reading the reviews, it might be hard to get sizing correct.

Edit: it says women’s but on Amazon they are unisex.

I got some swim shoes like that. They weight nothing, and you can roll them up, I put one inside the other, roll them and stuff them in one of my water bottle slots, that way I can also grab them quickly if I need to ford a river.

I like camp shoes. I have some Sketcher slip on that are insanely comfortable, but they are 18 onces for the pair...way too luxurious.
I recently picked up these on Amazon. It's a light cheap water shoe just over 6 onces for the pair. It has a pretty nice rubber bottom that would make you feel like you had something to protect your feet walking around camp unlike bread bags.

I haven't camped with them yet, but I think they also would be good for water crossings.

My Gf just picked up a pair of these for some kayaking we did. They're under 6 oz for the pair for women's 8.5, and they're breathable, quick drying, and have a thin rubber sole.

I got these for the same purpose

I am a big fan of minimal shoes, so when I go running or hiking, I like water socks, but they are not exactly the most stylish. Boat shoes and Toms might also be a good bet for something a bit more stylish and good for summer.

u/horsenbuggy · 1 pointr/dragoncon

I am currently wearing these and they feel great. They do wear out kinda quickly so I'm thinking about buying them again in black or navy. They are water shoes so they breathe.

We like these from Body Glove... got a good deal at Big 5... less than $40 per pair and they are excellent for rough terrain. Here's a sample from Amazon: Barefoot water shoes
