What exactly is the point of a kickstarter for a weighted blanket when there are dozens of companies already selling them? What kind of lunatic would pay $120 for a blanket that will (or in this case, probably won't) arrive in three months, when you can order one on amazon for $58 and have it tomorrow?

Frankly, anybody who backs this idiocy deserves to be ripped off.

u/lmYourHuckleberry · 17 pointsr/MEOW_IRL

Where have you looked? I found one on Amazon for around $100

That's 20lbs, it says get a weight that's 10% of your body weight

u/fartnuts9000 · 17 pointsr/todayilearned

I found this one on amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07343DK69/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_api_VVwYzb61311PD

Seems pretty similar in price and quality. Is there a reason why you chose to back it?

Thanks for this, after looking at the website you provided I found one cheaper on Amazon, by a significant amount. I wanted the extra large blanket on sensory goods which was 58" X 80" and 21 pounds. With the discount code it cost 143.99.

On Amazon I found this weighted blanket that was 60" X 80" and 20 pounds for 85.90. This is what I ended up purchasing.

They come in different sizes, actually. But one based on your weight. For me, I have the 15 lb for 140lbs.

I have been unable to sleep through the night for years. Maybe life. I'm not sure, I don't really remember. I'll lay in bed for an hour or two before I finally fall asleep. And halfway through the night, every night, on schedule, I'm awake between 3-4am crying and experiencing an anxiety attack.

But I got this blanket a week ago and I've been out like a light throughout the night. I just feel so comfortable and safe and warm. Sometimes it's a pain to adjust because it's so heavy and I'm so wimpy, it does get hot sometimes because I turn into a nuclear reactor when asleep apparently, and FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THINGS HOLY DON'T FART (it'll stick around ALL night. ALL. NIGHT.) But it has helped me feel human. I feel good. I haven't had an anxiety attack at night since I got this.

Here's the one I got if you were looking for a recommend: YnM Weighted Blanket

this 15 pound weighted blanket with amazing reviews is on sale for $40 today. just got one for my mom and my step mom

u/Yiskra · 3 pointsr/SPD

I found a good price on Amazon for one. There are now 3 floating around my house. Mil has a 15lb one for anxiety/depression and has noticed a marked difference in her sleep. We bought a lighter one for my 7 year old son who is autistic and has Spd. He loves his and will steal ours (the 15lbs ones) regularly. I also have a 15lb one that I've noticed helps a lot with spd and anxiety.

I definitely say go for it! You can get minky duvet covers too.

This one also has a coupon to take another 11 bucks off of it, so making it in the 70s.

Most duvets seem to run about 40 to 50. You can find them on Amazon too. May find some cooler ones on Etsy.

u/Aethyr42 · 3 pointsr/insomnia

Usually between $100-$300+ and may or may not work for more than a week or so.

u/KingDavidll · 3 pointsr/Assistance

I really like mine from amazon! It is still pretty breathable with being heavy. I will say it’s a way better nap blanket than a sleeping blanket but I do move around a lot at night.

Does anyone have any experience with this blanket?

I've found reviews from two sites:

https://www.farmandhomesupply.com/tekno-snuggle-me-48-x72-weighted-blanket-12lb-tek568.html

And the problem with leaking beads is making me a bit apprehensive about buying it.

I️ actually just got a weighted blanket for myself from Amazon—the brand is Calmforter (hope I️ did that link correctly!)

It’s amazing—I️ love it, and my sleep quality has gotten so much better. I️ did a lot of price comparing too, and I️ think it’s just an expensive product. Every time I️ found something that was under about $150, I️ got all excited only to find out that the low price was for a kid-sized blanket. Mine is 12 pounds, which I️ think is technically a few pounds lighter than recommended for my body weight, but I’m very happy with it.

u/PmMeYourMaymay · 3 pointsr/neoliberal

I had to sleep under one of these in one of my psych hospital stays, I thought they fucking sucked, they were so uncomfortable, they just irritate your entire body

u/alainacarmen · 3 pointsr/GiftIdeas

I LOVE my weighted blanket. I got a twin size on Amazon for about $60. The price depends on the weight that you want. The general rule of thumb is 1 pound per 10 pounds of body weight plus 1 pound extra.

Target and Walmart are also starting to sell them and prices may me cheaper there. The weight rule is just to give you an idea, a lot of people like lighter ones, especially if you want it for the couch and not sleeping in bed.

Here’s mine, It’s just a few dollars over budget and ships on prime.

u/wanderer333 · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

It's down to $47??? I feel gipped!! Anyway check this out, I got the 20 lbs one and it's been great - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DY5ST76/

You could also try weighted blankets. You just gotta figure out what size based on your weight. Here's one that might work color-wise.

u/adovest · 2 pointsr/mentalhealth

This is the weighted blanket that my mom got me for Christmas. It has the weight guidelines too. Mine is 25lbs and my sister's is 20lbs. I absolutely love it. Also, the same company has corresponding duvet covers for them to keep them easy to clean. I just got a simple cotton one, but they also have minky ones and whatnot.

Also - this is one of the best fidget toys I've ever found. It comes in more masculine colors too, but it's basically a fidget ring. I put it on my forefinger and spin it with my thumb. I love that it's discreet, doesn't make noise, and is easy to use.

u/mrsmsmith0909 · 2 pointsr/lupus

I’m not sure if this is helpful to you, but if you find yourself in the market for a second weighted blanket, I’ve provided the link. It is super affordable at just $49 and had a 4.5 star rating.

I got this one and I'm very pleased with it. It's weighted and not hot either. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075W9LL4P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/functional_miranda · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

There was a $10 coupon on it so it was 120. it was this one. :/ I couldn't find anything cheaper and had read through some threads about people trying to make their own and it sounds like it's pretty difficult because once some of the weights are in the bag, it's hard to move the blanket around the sewing machine. It sounds like /u/thumper5 got a smaller one, which tend to be cheaper so you could look into those! I got this one because it's a little more than 10% of my bodyweight, which apparently is the sweet-spot if you're covering your whole body.

u/suchagoodgirl86 · 2 pointsr/autism

I laying under my weighted blanket right now! I’m not in the spectrum, but I volunteer/work with a lot of kids with autism, and that’s how I found out about weighted blankets. I have anxiety that makes sleeping really difficult. Tonight’s the first night that I’m using it, but I LOVE the way it feels. Here’s the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073429DV2?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd

I've been using it for about two weeks now and love it. It can get kinda warm, but it's not unbearable. I also have a fan directly over my bed. If I don't turn it on I've woken up too hot once or twice. I'm in Denver and we've had some pretty hot days since I got it.

EDIT: Sorry for the delay, I'm still figuring out how to use reddit on android. It doesn't tell me I have replies so I have to check everything. I figured this post was so old it was done.

Mine is 20 pounds, I think. It’s comprised of little beads, no chains. I’m pretty sure this is the one I have

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075W94KB3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_7HUDCbSSE1FE1

Edit: luckily, the beads don’t roll around very much since the blanket is made of little squares so they can’t roll that far.

Just was looking at my old comments, and figured I’d add the additional info.

u/Maria_rose-2 · 2 pointsr/Fibromyalgia

I got mine from serenity engineered. Here is the link to the exact one I got https://www.amazon.com/Weighted-Blanket-Removable-ZIPPER-SYSTEM/dp/B07BPBHWLG/ref=sr_1_1?crid=XRABFGY1Q72X&keywords=serenity+engineered&qid=1570417142&sprefix=serenity+en%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-1

If you order from Amazon I think they ship to Canada as well (not sure so you gotta check on that).
For your weight I think the 10-lb blanket is what is recommended based on the suggested 10% of body weight I had seen everywhere.
I picked this one because it had the 3 x 3 quilts so the weight is exceptionally distributed. It also comes with a zipper inside and outside to secure the blanket to its cover so there is virtually no movement inside the cover.

u/SweetBabyJ69 · 2 pointsr/insomnia

Here you go!

https://www.amazon.com/ZonLi-Weighted-170-230lb-Individual-Children/dp/B075W94KB3

They come in different sizes. I got one that doesn’t cover my whole bed, just my body.

If you have pets that love to play/sleep on your bed, definitely get a cover or use a blanket/sheet for protection.

u/AverageJoe5555 · 1 pointr/mentalhealth

From what I understand, it's supposed to help people who suffer from anxiety. Amazon describes them as follows --

"Amy Garden Weighted Blanket for Anxiety, ADHD, Autism, Insomnia or Stress - Premium Various Weighted Blankets for Great Sleep"

https://www.amazon.com/Amy-Garden-Weighted-Blanket-Insomnia/dp/B074SHCL41

u/ChurnThemGrapes · 1 pointr/aspergers

I'll add that I don't have many skin sensitivity sensory issues, but it doesn't seem scratchy to me and I sleep naked underneath it, though you could probably just put it on top of whatever blanket you currently use.

I don't have any issues with excessive heat, but I tend to only use that blanket and also I keep the temperature at 68 F at night in the winter. I imagine I won't be able to use it much in summer, but it works for now.

Ive only had it for two months, though, but I have no complaints so far.

u/Hooki-Looki · 1 pointr/sleep

I purchased mine a while a go and really happy with it. I chose it mainly because it had the zippers as I could not bare the thought of having to adjust the blanket inside its duvet when its that heavy & I also liked their smaller quilts. I bought mine off of the company website but now I've seen that they are also offering it on Amazon, here it is
Whichever you end up buying be sure it comes with a cover, mine is washing washable but not sure how I feel about having to wash a 15-lb blanket in my precious washer and dryer. The cover however is super to easy to wash ;)

I just bought that one for my girlfriend for her birthday, and it seems really good. She uses it for therapeutic yoga as well as herself. I got the 15lb one, wish I got the heaviest they have though. You can just fold it over on itself to get more weight on you, though.

I used to have this blanket and never had that problem! It was a really great blanket. This, YnM brand is the type I have, i believe 17lb in a Full size? I adore it. Still need to buy a cover for it almost a year later but it’s softened up enough to not be uncomfortable on my skin, and the weights are distributed throughout the filling very comfortably

u/tomorrowistomato · 1 pointr/TrollXChromosomes

I got this one! I'm happy with it so far but of course there are tons of options.

u/vatoniolo · 1 pointr/madisonwi

I have this one that's great for both summer and winter. It breathes in summer and in winter I switch to flannel sheets and put an extra blanket in between this and the sheets. Sooo comfy

u/Apotropaic_Sphinx · 1 pointr/DIY

I'm normally pretty supportive of whatever crazy stuff ends up on this subreddit, but not this. If you really wanted to make a weighted blanket yourself you can get glass beads from arts and craft stores and sew them into a quilt or something (or just buy one they're not that expensive.)

What you made is garbage. It's not washable, it's not really breathable, the duct tape adhesive will eventually oxidize and the rice will fall out. Then it will attract insects (if it isn't already.)

u/loveeverythingj · 1 pointr/ankylosingspondylitis

Do you mind sharing where you got yours from and the weight on it? I was thinking of buying this one on Amazon.
I'm also worried about it being too hot for summer.

I have had mine for a good while so I can actually give you a good review. I absolutely adore mine, its very well made. I have washed the cover very many times and it has held up well. The blanket itself is the only one I came across that has zippers inside it to keep the blanket in place inside its cover, so no noise or moving issues inside the cover. It also has glass beads (almost non noticeable) & it had the very small quilts at 3x3 to help spreading the weight evenly. I could not tell you if the ones below 100 are good or bad since I have not used one of those 😊 I hope this helps you out.

u/imnewtothisI · 1 pointr/funny

I bought this one and have been sleeping better than I used to. The general rule of thumb is to get a blanket that weights ~10% of your body weight

u/Caremonk · 1 pointr/ADHD

Sure. It was: ~https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07G2NM611/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1~

The cheap end seems to evolve so fast that the product is unavailable. This seems to be the same blanket: https://www.amazon.com/Weighted-Idea-Blanket-Youths-Premium/dp/B074BX8YMW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=fabula+life+weighted+blanket&qid=1559370356&s=gateway&sprefix=fabula+life+&sr=8-3

A 72” × 48” one in 15 lbs.

There are many very similar products and I made my choice based on price + delivery (it was delivered overseas so the price of delivery was a significant factor).

I remember that earlier I had my eye on a blanket that had slightly smaller pockets and they were stitched diagonally, but I could not find that one anymore…
