I have the same approach with wine. Which is why I'm buying this

The bottleneck is too narrow to efficiently transfer wine into that "wine glass". Try this instead.

I was shopping for coffee mugs on Amazon yesterday and came across a fuckload of "coffee humor": example. It really makes me angry for something, can't quite put my finger on it.

Similar to "coffee humor" is "wine humor", which is basically coffee humor but trashier: example.

Here you go

  • step one: subscribe to /r/bourbon
  • Buy a bottle of Buffalo Trace, Elijah Craig 12, Evan Williams Single Barrel, or Four Roses Small Batch
  • Pour your new purchase into any glass you have, but look into getting a Glencairn
  • Sit back and enjoy!

There are wine glasses that can just barely hold an entire bottle that look surprisingly normal. Just a wee bit bigger visually, but they're like a magic bottomless pit when you pour the bottle in. I'm a fan. Drink like you mean it.

Here's a kinda clunky one:

https://www.amazon.com/DCI-Unique-Entire-Bottle-capacity/dp/B000VKOK6O/

But I've seen them where they're a little taller and narrower (and thus less bowl-y) that don't look at all out of place at a glance.

u/zeevaa · 6 pointsr/funny

Like this? I've seen them in several stores now. Although I do live in the south so I shouldn't be surprised.

u/Kimomono1 · 6 pointsr/cocktails

They’re not cheap. About $12-$15 per glass depending on where you find them. Here’s an amazon link.

$6 for a novelty plastic cocktail cup? Fuck that.

I'd rather keep it classy.

u/huhwhatanaccount · 6 pointsr/starcraft

And a proper whiskey glass as well. Looks like a Glencairn, if I'm not mistaken.

u/quercus_robur · 5 pointsr/Scotch

Glencairn. About $8-10 in stores or Amazon. Still glass, though:

You've come to the right place. There are a ton of excellent community members here who are eager to help new-comers like yourself. Stay within the whisky network and you'll be a seasoned malt / mash head in no time!

  • Add a few drops of water First tip.. Only cool clean (bottled or filtered) water is allowed in your single malts and bourbons. Add a little bit at a time to get used to drinking it "neat" (without water).

  • Invest in a nosing glass A Glencairn or a Capita or a regular wine glass will due in a pinch.

  • Ask questions! Don't be afraid to ask other community members for help or tips.

  • Read a ton of reviews This will help guide you to figure out which flavor profiles you like best and help you decide on making educated purchases. Our goal is to help you avoid buying shitsky as /u/texacer likes to call it.

  • Check out the side bar and malt map here and other side bar resources. There are some excellent videos posted under helpful stuff. Plenty of documentaries about Scotch whisky. I'll need to work on a Bourbon video section at some point.

I am in the US, I got a little better deal than what you can get them on amazon right now and it was a local place so no shipping. The one issue is they did come in the commercial box and not in the retail box. I would say this is the best deal right now.

I bought this: set of six. I kept four and gave two to a good friend.

Alternatively, if you want just the one, this single is a good price.

Finally, this site sells glencairns with various things on the glass, and they do sell (but are currently out of stock) a glencairn with a reddit alien (snoo) logo on it. It's not to my taste but a lot of people like it. They're a bit more expensive, but they are high quality, not some cheap acid etching. And they have fancy gift box type dealies if you want fancy; a standard box of six just looks like this.

For Reidels, I would ask /u/ipixelpixels for a better opinion than mine!

Related fact: The term “whisky” is actually derived from the Gaelic words uisage beatha, which in turn came from the Latin Acqua Vitae or “water of life.” It’s thought that the name refers to the fact that whisky was first used by monks for medicinal purposes.

u/HungreeHippo · 2 pointsr/Watches

For $50 to $100 I'd stay away from buying them watches. Watches can be a very particular item for people and you don't want the gift to just sit in a drawer if they don't like the specific model you gave them. How about something unique like this:
Whiskey Stones, Whiskey Glass
& an entry level bottle of Pappy Van Winkle

That is an inexpensive gift that even a connoisseur would appreciate.

I found this vacuum.

It's a bagless corded and only a hundred dollars, so 20$ less than your price cutoff, where most others I've seen while trying to find highly rated pet vacuums have gone over 300.

It came in third place for the five top rated pet vacuums for 2017 so far and has the lowest price of all five.

It features wind tunnel power, 3-channel suction, and even a reusable filter. Sturdy and reliable at a steal value price.

For something to add to your wishlist..this mug is super cheesy but it keeps cracking me up.

/u/rosebert, /u/porcelain_princess89, /u/wine-inacan you're all dirty birds who need to be punished..

I would use [this wine glass(http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000O3PZ1M) to help, because I have never been to the snow before and I'm sure I'll be cold. Drinking some wine first would help with that, and then once I've emptied the glass I can use it to scoop snow. Plus, I'm sure I'll appreciate my artistic attempts after I've emptied the glass of wine.

Considering getting a set of Old Fashioned glasses as a gift after my partner was admiring the ones used on Peaky Blinders (tv show). I was looking at this set on Amazon, does anyone have those that they can offer an opinion on? Or can anyone suggest another glassware set that they love (pref.
<$50/4)?

Preferred cocktails: bourbon on the rocks, Manhattan, Old Fashioned, (though we have a well stocked bar and do experiment too)

Priorities: look and feel like actually nice glasses, and he loves the crystal cut, more traditional look.

u/parallelparka · 2 pointsr/minimalism

I highly recommend the Bodum ones. They're a bit on the pricey side but I've been using them nonstop (I only own these two glasses) for over a year. They keep hot drinks hot, and cold drinks cold without sweating and leaving rings on my desk. No coaster necessary.

I use a glass similar to a Glencairn for doing side-by-side comparisons and tastings, but I wouldn't say that they work all that well for true wine glasses.

The Gabriel Glas options are outstanding. The Golds are a staple for me along with the Riedel Vinum Bordeaux and Vinum Burgundy. Between those three glasses, I have everything that I need to maximise my drinking pleasure. If you're wanting something cheaper and that work fairly well for many wines, take a look at Riedel's Ouverture Magnum Red.

  • Science: You are here - it's just a fun poster, but actually really interesting the more you look at it. It seems silly, but you really get a sense of how big our galaxy is.

  • Gardens: Herb Savor - This thing is pretty awesome and helps keep herbs and such fresh.

  • Writing: Who doesn't want to learn Calligraphy

  • Film/Movies: I absolutely love Mel Brooks - I really really want it!

  • Fantasy: Leaf Clasp

  • Books/Authors: The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy - These books are beautifully written. The most poetical version of prose I've ever read. Anything Richard Matheson - I had to put this as well because Richard Matheson is one of my favorite authors. He wrote many short stories (many became twilight zone episodes) and his novels are amazing. He wrote I Am Legend, which I would 100% recommend. However, the link is to one of his short story collections because they are just too amazing to pass up.
  • Nature/outdoors: Picnic Wine holder - There's nothing better than a nice glass of wine and these things are awesome.

  • Spirituality: Bamboo wind chime - I don't know why, but I have always felt there was something spiritual about wind chimes; especially wooden ones; and especially bamboo ones.

  • Art supplies - Sketching kit - I don't know much about art supplies, but this looks like a nice set.

  • Math - Pi Ice Cubes - They're just too cute and also math related

  • Travel: Universal Surge Protector - I wasn't sure if you travel a lot internationally, but if you do, get this.

  • Food - Citrus ginger dressing - This stuff is to die for!

  • Fun stuff: Lightsaber chopsticks - These are so fun to use. I'm taking a shot in the dark about whether you like sushi or star wars, but if I'm right, you'll want these.

  • Something not on this list, but that you absolutely have to link to or you'll explode: Dino Sandwich cutter - Do I even need to explain?

So I guess I post my answers here.

  1. This item is good for storing and sharing all of your magical concotions, be it polyjuice potion or love potion. Just be careful to not have too much fun with it.
  2. This broom made of high quality material will last you forever, and can probably handle a trip to space, so getting around campus should be no problem.
  3. With a bit of magic, this item can help you defend yourself against the toughest washroom trolls.
    4. A book! And well, it is a book about a non-descript wizard. I could learn some very valuable lessons from it.
  4. This little number can be used to store your photos from family back home, or your collectible wizard cards from the packs of chocolate frogs you'll find around campus. You can also magic it to protect your lunch from those nasty Primeryns.
  5. This book is a pretty magical one, and can help you improve your magic dramatically by teaching you how to spell. (hurr, I think I'm punny.)

1. I know I could just use reparo, but I'd rather my wine glasses not break in the first place. Plus, there's no putting wine back in a broken glass, and we can't have that! If I drop it, I'll just use wingardium leviosa, and the wine will be saved!

2. Whenever I put my dog on the back of my broomstick, he's always trying to chew off the handle. Maybe this item will fool him.

3. I'm not sure I can afford my own, but I have three friends who might let me borrow theirs. I might have to dust them off a bit.

4. This would help me understand the magic of the mind, and the mind magic behind the magic!

5. I have a feeling my school trunk would just be full of dirty clothes.

6. Cape! I'd really like to find a cape like this guy has. Practical AND fashionable. I think he really epitomizes those two qualities.

Mischief Managed!

So I decided to order my school supplies from a "reputable" magical supply store. I can not believe what happened. So you order by answering riddles and I thought that would ensure that everyone's orders are correct, I guess not....

Riddle the First-Wine or Wine Goblet

Either way, I wonder if this is even considered to be appropriate [drink wear] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HZR94O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=25MSIGOHKX8AU&coliid=I1GX53XQYP0JML&psc=1) in the Great Hall of the RAOA school of magic, merriment and Mischief.

Riddle the Second- Broom

I don't know what they were thinking, I asked for a Firebolt, I will never be able to fly with these. I thought maybe they were just tiny for shipping purposes, but I've tried to use Engorgio to make them bigger, but nothing happens.

Riddle the Third- Hat

I swear I ordered a standard witch's hat. I am not sure how they heard wicker hat.

Riddle the Fourth- Book

They told me that this is one of the most important books of knowledge of our times and I wouldn't be able to pass my muggle studies with out it

Riddle the Fifth- Trunk

I don't even know what to say about this. How am I suppose to get all my supplies/clothes to school in these? I mean sure if I was a guy I am sure they would be pretty comfortable. Note to self, next time use the word Luggage Trunk.

Bonus Riddle- Cape

And last but not least, I just wanted a simple black cape. It's black alright, but unless I am going to be giving haircuts in my common room, I have no idea what to do with this.

That is the last time I order anything from Mundungus Fletcher's Magic Emporium.

I am not a materials scientist :), so I have no idea what grade of silicone it is. Are there any health concerns related to lower grades or is it more of a texture, rigidity, and strength rating?

I use 16oz Hydro Flask True Pint on cold days, nothing I have works better. It doesn't impart a taste like stainless did in the old days. I was thrilled the first time I did a pour over in it and didn't notice any off flavors. I use Sun Tea brand 13oz double walled glass with my morning drip, their fairly burly for a glass container(I'll admit I have been through a few sets, they will eventually break on you). These days I've been using Bodum PAVINA coffee mugs for pour over. Its a more elegant solution than the Sun Tea but much more fragile. I like the double walled glass containers because I can see the coffee, the same applies to tea as well, the color adds to the experience.

One thing that people seem to ignore — which has never made sense to me, though I did start with wine first — is the importance of the cup/glass. ISO tasting glasses like this small one are my preference for espressos and Turkish coffee; for pourovers, I use larger Bordeaux-shaped glasses. Beer tulips work well too — the point is that the top of the glass should taper in, concentrating the aromas. It also feels completely difference as the coffee moves over the rim and hits your tongue, and for that reason I prefer cut-rim glasses.

I'm not sure whether thin glass/crystal could hold up to near-boiling temperatures though — go for the thicker, cheaper glasses.

u/pineapple_face · 1 pointr/DIY

The one that I've gone to, twice and a third time next year :), was very much worth it; there were scotches, bourbons, ryes, vodkas, gins, rums, etc everywhere. There was also free apps, loved me the smoked salmon, for days. AND I got to keep the snifter, or Glencairn, that I used throughout the night.

My ticket was $75, for all you can drink, from $1000 bottles, and all you can eat. That really just replaces a couple of weeks worth of going out; it's more than worth it.

Hope yours is similar, both in experience and in price :)

I think my Reddit is messed up. I don't get orange envelope notifications when people comment on my posts... But anyway, yeah, opening wine can be a bitch. Especially when you've had a long hard day and all you want is to relax with a nice glass of wine and your shit won't open!

So this is a wine glass that holds a whole bottle of wine. You may or may not be the kind of person who will need this for drinking, but it is a mad classy way to drink a lot of water. And this being my third year going in, I can tell you that is super important when you are feeding yourself. It is also a fun goofy thing to have, hope your first year is amazing! As I said before it is my third year of undergrad at St. Mary's COllege of Maryland and I am studying Chemistry and Physics as a double major.

Wine glasses for the nights where you want to cuddle up and watch Ponyo. Or an ice cube tray to make that perfect drink. :)

Ugh. If it's just ONE stitch, you might be able to ladder it back up with judicious use of a crochet hook? After a washing and wear or two the tighter stitches should even out. Unless there are increase/decrease complications, in which case I just recommend you grab a glass of wine (I recommend this one personally) and tie off the dropped stitch.
