I've been using wrestling shoes and I highly reccommend it. Whatever you go for, avoid running shoes or anything that's not flat soled. I know lots of people like converse shoes, and I've heard good things about fencing shoes as well.

Good cross training shoes (training for strength, speed, skill) need ankle support and good grip decent flexibility and sturdy and not be too spongy or too archy cause it makes weight lifting especially legs difficult and or less productive. Also, being lightweight and breathable.

Boxing cross trainers are really good all around shoe if you are going to be doing a lot of different types of workouts in them i.e. the following 3
They r in order of top rated and most to least expensive.

If you are mostly going to stick to weightlifting and caliestenics work having a flat sole and lightweight shoe with moderate flexibility is a pretty mix to go for but i wouldnt recomend much in the way of cardio with the following, (probably not the best for long distance running for example) decent for jumprope or stair climbing though

If you are going to do mostly a lot of hard impact running you should maybe go for tennis, basket ball, and cross country shoes due to the shock absorbent soles and slightly wider base of the shoes to distribute the shock a bit more evenly. The higher arches generally found in these types of shoes make some weight lifting less than desireable i.e. the squats and deadlifts for example due to forcing you to be in an awkward center of gravity like putting more of ur balance and weight onto the balls of your feet versus the heels which is good for running and sprinting and cycling and jumping (jumprope, tennis, basketball) but not for squats and weight lifting because you are supposed to load your weight on your heels for compound movements to have the appropriate load bearing distribution on your body and fully engage your core to prevent injury.

It all really depends on what you are doing.
If you are going to be rock climbing a lot get good rock climbing shoes. If you are going to hike a lot get good hiking boots. Most timerland boots are reliable and comfortable and designed for that. If you are going to train on grass a lot i would reccomend soccer cleats or turf shoes. Like the adidas mundiales or the nike predators.

I myself own a decent mix

For most all around training i use the adidas box hog 2.

For pure weightlifting or calisthenics i wear my converse.

For soccer and grass and turf training i wear my adidas mundials.

For hiking and bouldering i wear my timberland hiking boots.

For casual going out i wear doc martens usually.

For hospital work i wear some really cheap but super comfy sneakers with thick gel inserts cause you are standing around a lot and walking a lot. For 12 hours at a time. Before i worked in the hospital i was an emt and wore steel toe workboots geared toward firefighters and paramedics with gel inserts.

For everything else there's mastercard. Jk.

I recommend purchasing on the internet. These two are great choices for entry level shoes. Sizes are pretty much standard to what you would wear in a normal sneaker.

When first putting them on, really loosen up all the laces so you can get your foot in. Personally I never use the top eyelet so I have more lace to use. However, you do want them snug when rolling.

I'm a big dude with size 14 feet wide feet, and [these](Adidas Mat Wizard 3 David Taylor Edition Wrestling Shoes - Royal/Red/White - 15 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UXZYMVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Q5ryyb64EZG85) fit perfectly in a size 15

Ummm... I think you're in the wrong sub, I like these though!

u/Nik106 · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I bought cheap Adidas HVC wrestling shoes on eBay, and they're great for deadlifts (better than Cons or Vans). As for squatting, your personal squat style, body proportions, mobility, etc will determine how much benefit (if any) you get from weightlifting shoes.

I'm currently wearing Asics Matflex 5's. Super lightweight, good grip, and minimal sole. Laces replaced with Lock Laces because I'm a lazy who hates tying laces.

u/theFletch · 1 pointr/crossfit

to combat foot rocking, consider barefoot/socks or if not use shoes with minimalist soles. i like wrestling shoes cause they look better than vibrams

Personally, I use wrestling shoes.

There are two types of wrestling shoes - those with a split sole, like the ones you have listed above, and solid sole shoes, like the Asics Matflex. I think the split soles are better for sumo deadlifts, as they allow you to root your feet better than solid soles, as the split ones are much more flexible.

Since you added the martial arts aspect, though, I would consider the Asics Omniflex Attack 2, as the top is smooth and is more like a bare foot. It secures around the foot using two velcro straps that are tucked in and not visible. Omniflex Attack

I wear the ASICS Matflex 5 wrestling shoe, and I cannot recommend them, they are too flexible and soft.

u/halfcandan · 1 pointr/amateur_boxing

I've got the same shoes. I'd recommend against using them as they might develop some bad habits (flat footed). There's some pretty cheap wrestling shoes like these Asics that will give you more flex and keep you bouncy.

If you're training indoors, just roll into wrestling shoes. Likely cheaper than many of the high-end shoes (five-fingers), and include a degree of ankle support as well.

Downsides - there are not many wrestling shoes that come wide either, so the one I'm aware of may not be wide enough for you anyway at 3E:

For me, when I'm outdoors I use the New Balance shoes (also noted by
u/ablauffen above).

u/Moopies · 1 pointr/wma

I use these shoes.

They are wrestling shoes, but, to lend credence to a lot of people that say "wrestling shoes aren't ideal because you need shoes for the surface you are training on." I think these are a good compromise. They are a bit cushier than a standard "wrestling shoe," but still lightweight. Flat sole, but with a little tread, and the sole goes a bit over the "lip" of the edges. Plus, not a bad price.

I'm thinking of getting the Reebok Boxing Boots (link) but unsure what size to get. I wear size 11US casual shoes and I have wide feet, a lot of boxing shoes are narrow.

I've been using the Adidas Wrestling Combat Speed 4 Wrestling Shoes (link) (11 1/2 US) for a year now. They are pretty narrow so I had to get a half size up. I have space between my toes and the front of the shoes. (width of my thumb)

The person who wrote this article says it's narrow and doesn't recommend it to people with wide feet.

> Absolutely do not go for the Reebok Boxing boots (I own these and they are very narrow). Addidas are pretty narrow and if you have wide feet would be a tight fit.

While this article recommends the Reebok Boots for people with wide feet.

Anybody know anything about the Reebok Boots? Should I get it in size 11US or 11 1/2US?
Or would you recommend something else?
