The cheapest I found the rifle online currently is here for $393. Assume it's been lightly to moderately used, but still in excellent cosmetic and working conditions, I'd say 20% mark down is probably fair, bringing the rifle to about $315.

I don't know any scopes just by sight, (heh get it?) so I'm assuming that's an inexpensive Leupold rimfire, like the VX-Freedom at this link, priced at 196, so let's round to $200 for ease of calculation. Assume decent rings, let's add another $30 or so. 80% of $230 would be $184.

So far my total calculations are $315 for the rifle and $184 for the scope and rings, bringing that total to $499 on the dot. I don't know what brand the soft case is, but the Galen I bought at Walmart has been flawless for any of my .22 bolt guns so far, and it was like $13, so I'd say maybe $510 at this point.

What is good .22lr to you? For your average stuff, I'd be willing to pay 4 cents per round to do my friend a solid, 5cpr for good, and 6cpr for match grade stuff. Let's assume, based on the picture that it's mostly Federal bulk/CCI LR/Mini-mag. Given the mixed grab bag, for 3200 rounds I'd say maybe 4.5cpr, so that would be $144.

All together for your friends stuff, I think a fairly reasonable offer for both parties (maybe even a little generous for you) is $650 on the nose. My two cents is if you're really interested, it's on the up and up, and you are going to get good use of it, definitely go ahead with it. My favorite rifle currently is my dedicated "long range" .22 bolt gun. Almost went with a CZ452 before something else called my name. You won't be disappointed.

I have a couple UTG scopes (also sold as Leapers brand) that are remarkably good for their price. Their primary market is air guns, but they're good for 22s as well because they tend to have a very close minimum parallax distance. You might consider something like the 3-9x32 compact, the 3-9x40, or the fixed 4x (although that one doesn't have adjustable parallax). I would avoid going with anything higher than 9x magnification on cheap scopes, or anything with more than about a 3x zoom range, but other than that, I've been pretty amazed at the quality you can get now for under $100.

That said, of course a more expensive scope will usually get you better quality, but sometimes budget is more important. I still use my cheap scopes on my cheap rifles even though I have nice(er) scopes on my nice rifles now.

Using Talley high scope rings.

They clear the bolt handle closely but comfortably. No issues cycling the action. Mounted easily, look good and seem to be of very high quality. The screws they come with are torx, but they do come with a wrench to fit.

These rings specifically fit the CZ dovetail mount, not a standard Weaver style mount. If your rifle isn't a CZ, you'll need a different style ring (though high rings would probably still fit best).

My MK II has a BSA Sweet 22 3-9x40 ($50 on Amazon) mounted with some Weaver low-profile rings ($6 at Wal-Mart) on top of Weaver #24 mounts ($11 for 2 on Amazon). I had to remove the rear sight with a drift punch to allow the objective bell to clear the barrel properly. I do not recommend medium/high profile rings on this rifle; even with low profile rings I'm about 1/4" low on the cheek weld.

The scope is amazing for the money; it has enough elevation to mess around at 250 yards if you want, the turrets work pretty well.

This is a tad over budget, but I have owned one for years and I love it. Crystal clear, simple reticle, focuses down to 10 yards.

Nikon ProStaff EFR 3-9x40.

If you want a really good (relative of course), cheap scope, I can't recommend the Simmons .22 Mag scope enough. It's excellent.

Oh wow... This is a 4-16x40 with AO for $125CAD? I hope these aren't too good to be true because on paper that sounds amazing

Nice, I opted for the UTG Bug buster. It allows me to fit it in the bag with the scope still attached.

I really like my Condor Speedy Two-Point Sling for my AR.

Quick adjust, with snap buckles for quick detachment.

Use a cable lock: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VYY3RG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RUqszbBFFSR6Z

You can run it through the action or wrap it around the took and through the lever to prevent the lever from even being operated so a round can't be chambered.

I got this one and I have never had to re-zero it yet. Less than $40. I got different rings for mine though.

I found the case I ended up ordering for my 10/22 and Ruger American Rimfire. It fits either rifle with a scope on it. With as small/easy to store as the soft cases are, I'd rather have 2-3 soft cases before pulling out my hard case. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RZ3X7K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's made by Allen Cases.

I've used this one before with a TRS-25 on a different 22: https://www.amazon.com/UTG-Airgun-Picatinny-Weaver-Adaptor/dp/B007BNHFLQ

The owner has taken 30+ squirrels, 3 possums, 2 skunks, 2 porcupines, and one Coyote with it. I'd say that's good enough.

The rail you linked could be mounted either way depending on where you need the rail, but I have no personal experience with it.

Here's my Savage MK-II FV with my setup.

Rings are 1'' AccuShot from Amazon.

Scope is a Nikon Rimfire Prostaff 3X9X40 from Cabella's, I got it for $119 on sale.

Bipod is a UTG small adjustable from Amazon.

This rifle mainly is my target .22lr for punching paper, but I've taken it out small game hunting as well (without the bipod) and it's awesome in the field. Hell I have a target model 10/22 (wood lam stock) and I never even shoot that, I shoot this Savage way more.
