Why not invest in foreign companies in locations that have less taxes? That should reduce your overall tax contributions to any government, especially to your own.

For that sort of thing, you should probably use a tax haven bank account - not an expert in that sort of thing, but I'm /kind of/ sure it doesn't take a billionaire to do. Many of these will probably let you hold gold or silver too.

For counter-economic investments, try the GLBSE stock exchange. Its currency is bitcoin, which is a stateless digital "cash" currency. Its economy is the most laissez-faire in history - due to almost the total lack of regulatory and taxation (?) compliance, the high number of anarchists in the community (both ancap and socialist), and the statelessness of it all. GLBSE was founded by an agorist (or at the very least, he's a crypto-anarchist, and hangs out in the #Agora IRC channel). You can buy stocks, bonds, futures, etc. too

My most important bit of advice would be to be highly adaptive to change - both in the government and in the markets. Government cracks down on your strategy X, switch to strategy Y, etc. diversify into several strategies (eg. bitcoin, silver, foreign stocks/currency, as well as commodities like oil)

Finally, keep in mind individuals are generally smarter than the government - and outsmarting IS possible (see the book: http://www.amazon.com/How-Found-Freedom-Unfree-World/dp/0965603679 )

Thanks and good luck!

Pretty much the whole of the internet is a grey market in terms of state taxes.

Get an under-the-table job.

Start a person-to-person service business and hire under-the-table workers.

Many rural areas are upwards of 80% - 90% grey anyway so if you live in the city, you might consider moving away.

The point of any profession should be your enjoyment first, not to say that money is not important but it is not the primary reason to employ yourself. Find something you love and jump on it.

If you are really interested in going all the way, find a product that you find interesting, cool, and patented then violate that patent.

EDIT: I own this book:

http://www.amazon.com/How-Make-Living-Outside-System/dp/1937311023/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332819062&sr=8-1

It has a lot of good advice on starting your life on the path of black and grey markets. It is very short but that is all the better for following it's guidance and constantly coming back to it.

>Could you define "business"? It seems like a pretty ultra-broad subject to me.

OK then. If you know absolutely zippo about business (that is, no knowledge of what these terms mean: double-entry accounting, profit margin, loaded cost, unloaded cost, COGS, etc., get this book and don't be insulted.

>What markets are good for reselling for a beginner in the counter-economy

Drugs.

Kidding.

Anything that can be bought over the counter with no paperwork for cash. Tools and computer equipment are a good one. Cars probably not. However, the reseller market has very thin profit margins. It's not a good place to make a lot of money due to the Internet empowering buyers.

Here's a good book. Here's another.

There's a trilogy by Vernor Vinge that would be appropriate:

  • The Peace War (Amazon)
  • The Ungoverned (Free to read online)
  • Marooned in Realtime (Amazon)

The Peace War is a good book, and the heroes are essentially Agorists - the Tinkers, who practice science illegally and sell their products on a black market.

The Ungoverned is one of my favorite stories, ever. It's about an Anarcho-Capitalist society's interaction with a state.

I've not read Marooned in Realtime, but it's the conclusion of the series and I have no doubt it's as good as the others.

Finally, the links to Amazon above are affiliate links. If someone does happen to buy things through them, I promise I'll use the money to buy more Bitcoins :)

I agree that #agora is better than Alongside Night, though I enjoyed both quite a bit. I would also say Cryptonomicon is a key agorist novel, what with the discussion of cryto-currencies, data havens and hidden electronic trade.
