I will repost what I posted in another thread not too long ago, making edits for what’s relevant to my current routine experiences:
I sheet mask most nights. I have a drawer of backups in addition to the sheet masks I have ready to go on my skincare bar cart.
These are my favourites so far:
Dr. Jart Hydration Lover Rubber Mask // product here
Update Feb 20, 2018: I tried another Dr. Jart Mask two nights ago, the V7 Toning Mask and it is another winner that I will be repurchasing. It had a creamier essence that left my face so moisturised that I considered ending my routine there. And there is so much essence. I had enough for three additional applications after sealing in a ziplock bag. I find that I generally am wowed by all Dr. Jart masks, but they are pricey.
Mediheal N.M.F. Aquaring Hydro Nude Gel Mask // product here
Dr. Jart Ceramidin Sheet Mask // product here
Mediheal I.P.I Lightmax Ampoule Mask // product here
My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Sheet Mask or My Beauty Diary Royal Pearl Sheet Mask // product here and here
Added Feb 20, 2018:
SNP Bird’s Nest Aqua Ampoule Sheet Mask // Product here
This is a favourite of this sub, and I can see why. It has so much essence, and although it is fragranced, I like the scent. It smells like a clean hand soap. This left my face plump and hydrated. I purchased it for $2.80 at a local AB store, and I think I will go back to repurchase the box.
Whamisa Organic Seeds & Rice Fermented Hydrogel Facial Mask // Product Here
First tested on Dec. 19. First impressions: very thin clear nude hydrogel mask. Very delicate. Smells very much like Chanel No. 5, with strong notes of jasmine and musk. As mask wears on the face, the scent remains and the mask starts to create a menthol-type cooling sensation on the face. The mask fits poorly in the eyes, but otherwise fits well. Will repurchase for scent and gel texture. This mask is definitely a favourite of mine for the senatorial experience versus the results, as I definitely felt bougie AF wearing it. I will monitor it closely as I Iuse it more in the future to see if it has any more benefits other than basic hydration.
Regen Absolute Gold Foil Mask // Product here
Out of all the foil masks I’ve tried and own, this one is my favourite. It fits surprisingly well for a foil mask, and is lined with a charcoal infused paper sheet mask. I got it for $12 for a box of 5 which seems to be really affordable for these foil type of masks, but it has since gone up in price on Amazon, I’m assuming due to it being a fairly nice mask. This one is great for skintertainment purposes (perfect sheet mask selfie!) but I also feel like due to the fit and lining that it is a generally good mask as well.

Edit: typos
Omg, currently living here! In general I'd recommend checking out the Cosme rankings. However I have a lot to say so I'm going to list my recommendations in descending order of importance haha.
The hada labo lotion (note: it's actually a thin liquid that westerners would call a toner) is quite good. (looks like this). However I have really really dry skin, and I personally prefer their "milky lotion". These products (and their equivalents in Hada Labo's "premium" line are popular enough that you can get a good price on them on amazon, but I'd really recommend taking this opportunity to go try them all on the back of your hand at a drugstore. Like, literally any decent-sized drugstore in Japan should have them all :)
There are a lot of really good japanese sunscreens that you should look into. Plus with your skintone, you probably won't have to worry a ton about whitecast. I think the Biore UV bright face milk would be a nice place to start, especially if you have oilier skin! It's also quite nice under makeup.
In my experience, Japanese mascaras tend to be lengthening and clump-proof, but often aren't too volumizing. If, like me, that isn't an issue for you, I highly, highly recommend the Heroine Long and Curl.
Japan also does really great false lashes, if that's your thing. Miche Bloomin makes some really natural looking ones, but I know people also like the ones Dollywink and Dup make.
I really love the CEZANNE UV Clear Face Powder. It takes the shine down without totally mattifying. Other people really like the Canmake Marshmallow finish powder.
The naturie hatomugi skin conditioning gel and/or lotion are really well-reviewed, and fairly cheap here. I see them in a lot of little cosmetics shops and some drugstores. I personally haven't tried them because it didn't seem like they'd be moisturizing enough for my dry skin, but it sounds like they might be a nice fit for you.
The classic DHC lip balm in the pink tube is kind of pricey but also my favorite lip balm, and the lipsticky shape makes me feel ~fancy~
All my japanese girls are currently into Excel's eyeshadow quads. They're great for getting that really shimmery japanese eye look, if you're into that. The Opera tint rouge is also really popular here.
DHC and Kose (the pink softymo, in particular) make good oil cleansers, but they'd be a nightmare in a suitcase so I don't recommend you buy them here.
A lot of japanese makeup shops also currently stock [the SAEM] Cover Perfection Tip Concealer, which I like a lot and is pretty popular.
Speaking of south korean brands, if you're in a big city (ie: Tokyo, Osaka) there will be some standalone South Korean stores (eg: Etude House, Innisfree, Skinfood). The Etude House store in Umeda is closed this week, but if you can find one, you should try the soon jung line! CREE`MARE by DHOLIC stores also stock a lot of south korean makeup, especially cushions.
Anyway, have fun! And feel free to message me with questions about confusing packaging/whatever while you're here :)
Edit: grammar haha
omg!! toners = life for me
I once was a dehydrated, overexfoliated mess. I started using every moisturizing product under the sun and my skin loved it. I repaired my moisture barrier and everything was great. Until it wasnt. Suddenly every cream or serum made my skin clogged and breakout. Even the same exact products my skin once loved. I was so sad. I loved my multi step routine and suddenly anything beyond just cleansing and toning (western toners) made me break out.
Then I came here and asked for help and ta-daa!! I was introduced to the world of AB toners. Yesssss my multi step routine has been back in full swing ever since and consists almost entirely of toners.
So without further ado (sorry, these are not all AB but I wanted to include everything)
Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence Watery texture. I love this product. At first, I was unsure it was doing anything. I was only using it once a day and didnt notice much. Until I stopped using it and noticed that not only did I lose a certain glow in my skin, but also my following products didnt absorb the same way. I now use it twice a day and love it.
Hada Labo Gokujun Moist Thin serum texture. Really good product. Its kinda thick for my skin (again, my skin will clog up really easily from too heavy of product) so I cant use it everyday, but if I am extra dry for some reason or accidentally overdo it with actives, this will resolve my issues literally overnight. Always good to have around. Considering trying the light version.
SAEM Urban Eco Harakeke Light gel texture. OMG my favorite toner. It has the most amazing herbal smell, makes my skin feel refreshed and plump but not sticky. Calms any redness or irritation. So nice, I use this twice a day.
Thayers Witch Hazel Cucumber Watery texture. I know this is a western toner and a lot of people have VERY mixed reviews on it. But for my oily skin, it is awesome. Keeps my oil in check, and the cucumber is so refreshing and calms redness and breakouts. I would not however recommend this for dry skinned folks.
Caudalie Vinoperfect concentrated brightening essence Watery texture. Another one of my all time faves. This is an "exfoliating" type, as it contains glycolic and lactic acids. But it is suuuper gentle. Keeps my skin texture balanced and bright. My skin responds very well to this product. I use it on off days of when I use my stridex, just in case (I dont want to go back to that over exfoliated life)
Pyunkang Yul Essence Thin serum texture. I see this one getting a lot of love here and Im so glad because this stuff is definitely awesome. Makes my skin feel hydrated, has a short list of ingredients and gives my skin a certain kind of bounce. Love this one.
Whamisa Green Tea Serum Toner Serum-ish consistency. OMG loooove this toner. It contains alcohol so I would probably not recommend it for dryer skin. But again, me and my oilyness love it. Its soothing, hydrating, feels great, dries well, and my skin was responding so well to it that I upped it from once a day to twice a day and have had great results.
Toners on my wish list:
Secret Key Milk
Want so badly to venture into the Sulwhasoo life but muh goodness they are expensive and The Balancing Water Ex that is highly recommended has a lot of the same ingredients I am getting elsewhere in my routine. Eh, someday.
Lastly, here is a thread I posted last week asking for thoughts on some of the more expensive toners. With my love of toners, I was curious to hear experiences as to whether the prices are worth it or not.
Happy toning!
Here's a blog reading list for you: the venerable Fiddy Snails, Fanserviced, and Snow White and the Pear. These blogs have been INVALUABLE resources for me in learning about skincare and AB.
And here's a very, very, very, VERY loose shopping list, with one major caveat: PATCH. TEST. Don't just buy a new product and slap it on your face. Choose a spot on your face - somewhere where you break out easily, like next to your nose - and dab a little of that product there every day for 10-15 days. See what happens. This is how I learned that my beloved Hadalabo Gokujyun lotion doesn't break me out, but it does break out a lot of other people.
CLEANSERS:
You need two. An oil cleanser to use in the evening to thoroughly remove sunscreen and makeup, followed by a foaming or gel cleanser. I like Hada Labo Gokujyun foaming cleanser as a second cleanser (it's the only one I use in the morning). Kose Softymo is an affordable oil cleanser for the evening.
ACTIVES:
These are ingredients that Do Things to your face, such as exfoliants (BHA, AHA, vitamin C) and disinfectants (benzoyl peroxide). I am drastically simplifying. At the moment you're using two products that contain benzoyl peroxide, a disinfectant. It's time to round out your active diet, with the big caveat that irritation = redness. I'll say it again - ditch the astringent, it's only causing the redness you're trying to avoid. If you're going to add new actives to your routine, do it very gradually. Patch test, then start using it every other day.
Things you could try: I'm in love with C21.5 vitamin C serum. This is an affordable powerhouse of vitamin C, that promotes skin cell turnover and does a bang-up job of dealing with pigmentation. It does oxidise easily, though, so you need to keep it in the fridge and toss it when it starts to turn yellow. In terms of exfoliants, Cosrx BHA Power Liquid and AHA Power Liquid are fan favourites. They feel remarkably gentle on the skin, and do a great job of gently exfoliating. If I were you I'd start with the BHA, as BHAs are great at exfoliating within the pore, soothing redness and treating/preventing acne.
SUNSCREEN
I'm here to give you the greatest lesson you'll ever learn: the best anti-ageing treatment is sunscreen. You are 15. It's time to set up a lifelong sunscreen habit. And Asian sunscreens feel better than any western equivalent. RatzillaCosme is a goldmine of sunscreen reviews. The first Asian sunscreen most people try is the legendary Biore Watery Aqua, which is inexpensive and easy to snag on Amazon.
DA SNAILZ
Snail products are wonderful at reducing redness and inflammation. There are just... so many snail products out there. A great starting point is Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream, which is a great final moisturiser at night if you've got oilier skin. I'm also partial to the all-in-one repair cream, which is actually more of a 'whipped' essence than a cream, but feels wonderfully soothing on my oilier skin.
Hope this helps!
So I have a few suggestions, because my skin used to be exactly like yours. I realized that after getting my basic skincare routine down that my skin isn't actually oily, it was just the products I use (which may be a different scenario for you) but I do have to take a lot of measures to combat my dehydrated skin. I also have redness that once required full-coverage foundation and now I wear tinted moisturizer to just even out my super mild redness. This is my routine:
AM:
Mario Badescu Keratoplast Cream Soap. This is less of a true cleanser in the way that it won't really work at removing makeup, but it is really fantastic at soothing redness/any irritation and making my skin feel super soft.
I then use Etude House 10-in-1 House Wonder Pore Freshener. This is a new addition that I really like for sebum control and pores. Not a neccessity for you it seems like, but I figured I'd suggest it. It's a toner. I find it actually works for me, when in in the past I'd use a toner and be like ok..... this is doing nothing, lol.
Then I use Nature Republic New Soothing Moisture Aloe Vear GEL 92% moisturizer. LOVE this for soothing redness and providing some serious hydration! I was really worried about this being sticky, especially because I have an aversion to textures sometimes, but I actually really like this. I know a lot of people say you shouldn't use stuff from jars, but I find that as long as I continue to see results, the jar continues to work for me. I just switched to this from the Clinique gel moisturizer and not only is the price decrease amazing, but I saw/felt results so quickly!!
For days that I know I need extra hydration in the AM (i.e., winter), I use Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion prior to my moisturizer.
Last morning step is sunscreen - I just switched from a western sunscreen to Missha All-around Safe Block Aqua Sun Gel Spf30/pa++ and I really like it, and that'll help your redness, too.
PM:
Cleanse with First Aid Beauty cleanser. I really like this, but I find it to be on-par with most cleansers, although this is gentler for sensitive skin.
Every other day: Too Cool for School Egg Mouse Pack. LOVE THIS. Improves brightness/radiance and gives hydration.
After I get out of the shower, I use the toner I mentioned above.
Cosrx BHA. Some say it reduced their redness, but I found it just helped with sebum/blackheads. I like Stridex better as a BHA, honestly.
I use the Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion every night, and follow with my moisturizer I mentioned above. I'm currently searching for a good night cream, I used Eucerin anti-redness prior and I didn't like it very much.
Throughout the week, I'll use the First Aid Beauty
Skin Rescue Purifying Mask With Red Clay, which I really like, but since you're on a budget I'd say it could wait. I find it reduces redness but works best for blemish control. I also use Tony Moly sheet masks, particularly ones that combat redness/dehydration.
Overall, if you could only afford 1/2 products, I would most recommend the Mario Badescu and the moisturizer I mentioned - but I also would highly recommend the Hado Labo lotion regardless due to your severe dehydeation.
Awww, I know that feel completely.
I've never tried any Tatcha products, however... I have been in the market for an enzyme cleanser lately, and the one I'm looking at is often cited as a great dupe of the Tatcha Rice Enzyme Cleanser in the Amazon reviews- the SRB Stabilized Rice Bran Enzyme Cleanser, $25 on Amazon or Peach & Lily. I first saw this in a Liah Yoo video and I guess due to the kinda bland packaging it's not very popular, but the reviews on Amazon and Amabie are excellent. Apparently the product is extremely gentle and the ingredients list is pretty short, so it might be ideal for you. :)

Honestly, I'm kind of an AB noob myself, because although I research many products, I don't really have that much $$ to spend on products and try them. Since you have sensitive skin, maybe try a balm cleanser? They're apparently very nourishing and the Banila Co Clean It Zero Sensitive formula has great reviews. Renee from Gothamista has also recommended the Heimish Cleansing Balm (it has donkey milk and she's butter, oh my gosh) and I believe her skin type is also dry-sensitive.

https://www.amazon.com/Heimish-Clean-Balm-Cleansing-120ml/dp/B01CJ639SM
Looking at the ingredients in the serum and cream, they seem somewhat similar to the Nature Republic Royal Ginseng line, all the way from the rice, royal jelly, ginseng, sodium hyaluronate, and silk extracts to the 24k gold. This line is very expensive as well, but may be less problematic to you.
The top, likely active, ingredients in the Serum are Algae Extract and Rice Extract and in the cream the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate is the number 1 ingredient, so I think you should start looking for serums and creams high in those actives, as those are the highest concentrated ingredients in the Tatcha moisturizing products.
I couldn't find much with Algae Extract that was a moisturizer, except one Nature Republic Eye Cream, the Collagen dream eye cream.
https://www.amazon.com/NATUREREPUBLIC-Collagen-Dream-Cream-Korean/dp/B00H4HD25W
The second ingredient, the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, is very interesting because it actually used to be the active ingredient of the famous SK-II Essence, before it was replaced by the very similar Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate. This Ingredient is likely going to be much easier to find in an essence rather than a moisturizing cream. I know that the Missha First Treatment Essence has Saccharomyces but I'm also including a link/list of SK-II dupes that contain either Galactomyces or Saccharomyces as they are very similar, and because many of the other SK-II dupes are actually cheaper (the Missha is around $50), including the CosRx Galactomyces which is only $15.

https://sokoglam.com/products/time-revolution-first-treatment-essence
https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Galactomyces-Whitening-Power-Essence/dp/B00OZE57XW
The last ingredient, Rice Extract, is present in an insane 65% potency in the CosRx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Mask, which is also a cult favorite on Reddit. And, it's less than $15.
https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Ultimate-Nourishing-Rice-Overnight/dp/B01518D84U
Lastly, I saw sodium hyaluronate, or hyaluronic acid, in both the serum and cream, so if I were you, I'd invest in the cult favorite, Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion. I have the Premium version, and it really is wonderful and leaves your skin firm and hydrated, and is a great way to get in extra moisture before your cream.
Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist, 5.7 fl. oz. (170ml) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSNBO9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EZa8ybAC6S473
A final note: since your skin is sensitive, I would stay away from any artificial fragrance or irritants in any products. Hada Labo and Cosrx are both fragrance free companies that only use what they need to make the product effective. Again, check your ingredients at CosDna as well as reviews. Also many of these products are available cheaper on some other websites, I just chose who came up first. Generally, SokoGlam is a safer bet than Amazon because you won't get a fake product, but it's also slightly more expensive.
I know this is a long post but I also know how daunting the search for good, affordable skincare can be. Also, don't forget to wear sunscreen. There's no point in getting so many products just to negate their effects with UVA damage.
Best of Luck! <3
I know the impulse is to do a big order to save on shipping, but I think it's also ok to do several smaller shipments. You can't use everything at once anyway. Ideally, you should be introducing new products little-by-little. Maybe one new product a week, so you can test to see if your skin likes it. Also, you can order samples of a lot of the more popular products, so you can test that way too.
Since your skin is only sensitive sometimes, I guess you'll have to decide how much you want to baby your skin. For me, I would want to choose products that are more for sensitive skin when there's a choice. But you might know better how much you need to do this.
For cleansers, I like the Banila Co. I have sensitive skin, and I am ok with the regular one. The Purity version actually has some herbal ingredients that I wasn't sure would work for me. The BioDerma water looks good, and I think it could work as your step 1 to remove makeup. Cleansing oils are nice too. You could get a few samples of these. DHC is olive oil based and should work for sensitive skin unless olive oil happens to break you out. (You might not know until you try.) The Innisfree, Skin Food and Face Shop cleansing oils are all pretty popular, but scented.
For toners, the Mizon is the one I've heard of most. It might be good for acne, but not sure if it will work for dryer skin. For masks, the Skin Food one is popular. There's a black sugar strawberry one that people like. For eye cream, I would go for the Kiehl's or Mizon because of the snails.
For treatment, I have the C20 Vitamin C but haven't used it yet. I would try to buy some samples of the Innisfree. Missha ampoule and essence are popular as well.
You might want to hold off a little on the AHA/BHA's until you get a settled routine and your skin is more moisturized. The Mizon AIO is not a real moisturizer from what I understand. It's kind of a treatment and goes on before your other steps. A little different. You can order samples of the Starfish Cream pretty easily.
Too Cool for School has a pumpkin sleeping pack that people like. Also, people seem to like Mizon Good Night Sleeping Pack. But Laneige is said to be nice too.
You might want to add in Hada Labo lotion. It's popular around here and works a little like a serum. Not a lotion as we think of it. You may need an extra lotion or cream at some point, but those are usually easier to find in non AB if you need. Have fun!
Raves:
Etude House Cat Headband- I got this as a freebie and I looove it. I feel so cute when I do my routine, it keeps my bangs out of my products, and my SO seems to like it too. It's funny that such a small thing can make me feel happy~
It's My Cushion(Black and Mint)- I am so upset with myself for waiting so long to get a cushion. I use the Black for BB Cream and the Mint for sunscreen.
I don't get gross BB Cream or sunscreen all over the back of my hand, I feel like it's more sanitary because I'm not touching all over my freshly cleaned face, and it gives a better finish to my application. I also use less product. And since I'm using my own BB cream, I can refill it easily(one bottle costs about the same as a good BB cushion, and lasts me around two years)
Rosette Ceramide Gel- The elusive "chok chok" feeling, just like CosRx Honey Ceramide Cream gave me, but without an allergic reaction from the honey. It dries a little more slowly, but is also more matte, which makes applying my sunscreen and makeup easier. To me, it also feels a lot lighter, but only a tiny bit less moisturizing than the CosRx.
Rave/Rant:
Beauty People Lip Tattoo(Tomato and Strawberry)- TL;DR Great product, but why does Korea only ever make lip products in four colors?!
First, the good: It doesn't dry my lips out horribly like most lip tints, and it lasts. Like, will not come off even with oil cleanser. And it doesn't highlight damaged parts of my lip like other tints. Full coverage!
It's very pigmented. If you look good in bright lipsticks, you will love this. The tomato is(well, like a tomato, facepalm) bright orange-red, not a true red, which was disappointing to me as I look horrible in orange. And the strawberry is like if you added cool undertones to hot pink. However, I favor a more natural look. I was hoping to do what I did with my old tint, and either only put on a thin layer, or apply it more thickly, then heavily blot to bring it close to my natural color.
You can't apply it thinly, it just doesn't work. But you can do the blotting method if you're very quick. If you leave the product sitting for more than about 7-10 seconds, it'll be there the rest of the day. Nothing you can do about it. Don't touch it with your fingers, and don't try and use your toothbrush to remove it either(stained hands and one ruined toothbrush later...)
Even a thin layer does last all day though. I think this would be a fantastic product for someone who loves bright lipstick. It's also great for people whose lips get dried out from other lip tints, or for people who tend to rub off their lip products.
I do like the lasting power and I can make it work for now, so I'm keeping the Tomato and getting rid of Strawberry. But I'll be trying other lip stains until I can find an HG that is long lasting and a good color, so I'll have more reviews for you later. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!
I've heard PeriPera Inks are nice too, but they have pretty much the same shades, so I'll probably try something else...

3). I've never personally tried secret key! Maybe the holy grail list. Can help? What I do know, as far as 3 in 1 products go, hada labo perfect gel http://www.amazon.com/Rohto-Hada-Labo-Koi-Goku-Jun-Whitening-Perfect/dp/B00BQV36BM I have heard only good things about. (try searching the product name in this subreddits search function and are what people say!) None of those 3 are exfoliants. Here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00F35GT0W/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1420455918&sr=8-1&dpPl=1&dpID=31IYRNG-byL&ref=plSrchπ=AC_SY200_QL40 is an aha exfoliant (for exfoliating dead skin), here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_ss_i_3_5?ie=UTF8&k=Ciracle+bha&sprefix=Cosrx are a few bha exfoliants (for exfoliating inside the pore). I personally have only ever used bha and aha exfoliants from paulas choice, also found on amazon, and have only good things to say about it. If you don't want to pay that much for their products, stridex pads are a good non-asian beauty alternative for a bha and st ives exfoliating pads or nip + fab glycolic fix are good non-ab options for an aha. all found on amazon. Please also note that exfoliants don't typically go on third. They go on first, and are generally allowed to sit on the skin for a half hour at least to work uninterrupted before beginning the rest of your routine.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EHAXCUY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1420457337&sr=8-1. I use and love this essence http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_ss_i_0_17?k=benton+snail+bee+high+content+essence&sprefix=Benton+snail+bee+ , very popular. The first two products on this page http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_?ie=UTF8&k=Missha+time+revolution+ aka the missha essence and ampoule... So. Many. Good. Things. Have been said about it.
Hi! I'm just getting into AB (maybe 2, 3 weeks in); would appreciate any comments on routine!
Skin Type: Normal | Country/Climate I'm in: San Francisco, CA | Top Skin Concern: Redness, pores, brightening (in that order)
Current Routine/Products I'm Using:
AM
Second cleaner: Skinfood Egg White Foam Cleanser (really loving it so far!) I don't double clean in the morning; would y'all recommend that?
Toner: I /was/ using Son & Park's Beauty Water followed by Missha's Revolution/Time FTE Essence, but the beauty water felt a bit grainy on my skin. Currently trying just the FTE essence. (Have heard good things about Klair's Facial Toner and Cosrx Galactomyce 95 Whitening Power Essence as well; how could I incorporate this? Should I?)
Vitamin C: Buena Skin Vitamin C Serum. So far, I like the fragrance and feel of this on my face.
Eye cream: Mizon snail repair eye cream. No noticable results yet.
Sunscreen: Biore Sarasara UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ feels amazing!
I hadn't been using a moisturizer since I used to use Tarte's tinted moisturizer on top as makeup. Now that my skin is getting brighter and clearer (thank you, AB!), I don't put that on as much. I'm waiting for Mizon's Snail Recovery Gel Cream to come in as my new moisturizer!
PM
First cleaner: Banila's Clean It Zero. This is great for removing makeup! I feel like I scoop too much out of the jar, though, since it feels so light and unnoticable on my skin.
[Same second cleaner, Missha FTE essence, vitamin C, eye cream as AM]
Sleep pack: Tony Moly intense care dual effect sleep pack. This was a gift from a friend; I might look into replacing this at some point.
Sometimes, I'll use Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling in wine as an exfoliator after cleaning. My skin feels so soft after letting it soak in!! I also bought these sheet masks off Amazon, and might look into Etude House's Therapy Air Masks after I run out.
Thanks in advance for any comments!
Hi! I don't have a lot of specific knowledge about Japan, but here's some things that will hopefully be helpful:
Good luck!
Hey all,
I've been a lurker of this sub for a few months and am finally beginning to incorporate AB products with my fairly extensive green beauty line up. I've been using several Dr. Jart products for the last few years and finally made more AB purchases in the last few days based on extensive research:
I also went a little sheet mask happy at the Honolulu Duty Free Beauty Store on my way home from Hawaii (whoops):
Skin Type: Dry, Sensitive
Country/Climate I'm in: NYC [typically humid AF, cold cold winters]
Top Skin Concern: Anti-Aging (Hello early 30's), Hydration
Current Routine/Products I'm Using:
AM:
PM:
I also have a rotation of balms and masks that I use as necessary:
with propolis extract - Discovered this brand during a long layover at the Atlanta airport. Really amazing products with great, natural ingredients
My biggest concern is anti-aging and the puffy bags under my eyes. My skin also responds beautifully to natural ingredients and has completely changed after incorporating an AHA and Ceramides. Any recommendations on what I can do to better my routine would be very helpful! Really curious what everyone here thinks about the addition of Retinol, Vitamin C or any other hydration steps. How can I best use each product? Am I going in the right order? Help! Thanks :)
Edit:
I can't figure out formatting. Sorry this may be difficult to read.NAILED IT.Great, you're ahead of the game then.

The Hada Labo Gokujyun Moist is the Hylauronic Acid one... "lotion" is just what the Japanese call hydrating toners. I'm talking about this one, is that what you have? I'd try applying it with a mist and some other hydrating layers and the right moisturizer to seal it in, but you could be sensitive to one if the ingredients too.

Is this the honey you have from Trader Joe's? That's mine, I love the texture of it but any raw honey will do. Someone else actually asked me below how I used it, go take a look there I explained in detail how I use it :)

Have you read Snow White and the Asian Pear's post on what I think she calls "the shell." It's what some dehydrated skin types have, it's this dead layer of skin that keeps products from absorbing. AHA and BHA are your best friend for that. In the meantime, I'd order a konjac sponge to use if you're just going to be using water for now. It'll provide some really gentle exfoliation and help cleanse your skin.

My current hydrating products for daytime are the Tosowoong Green Tea Facial Mist (it's awesome, like a essence in a spray bottle), Cosrx FTE (will be trying a different FTE next though), Goodal Waterest Lasting Water Oil,HL lotion, Tosowong Propolis ampoule, Scinic Aqua AIO, HL Shirojyun Milk, and Benton Snail Bee Steam Cream to seal it in. I was using the Enprani Moistfull Booskin but I didn't find it very hydrating and I may cut out the Goodal Water Oil due to fragrance.

I sheet mask at least once a day and I use sleeping packs during the day also if I'm just hanging out at home. I've just started sheet masking regularly but I've tried quite a few masks and have a ton more on the way too. So far the ones I would repurchase are the LJH Tea Tree Masks, the Enprani Pearl Masks, the MBD masks in Black Pearl and Imperial Bird's Nest, and the Lovemore masks in Pearl Barley & Milk and Rose Hybrida because they smell amazing and they're super sheer. I also would buy the Tony Moly Pureness 100 masks in Hylauronic Acid and Pearl again, they're good cheap masks to have around. I expect my sheet masks to be super hydrating or brightening otherwise I'm not interested.
Welcome fellow VA AB'er!
> What sunscreen do you recommend?
If you're dry, I'd highly recommend the Shiseido Mineral Water UV Essence link
It doesn't dry me out and it stays put, though I haven't tried using it at the beach or on vigorous work out days yet.
> Face mask suggestion?
I love Tosowoong and MBD masks. The Tosowoong masks are on sale at RRS for less than $9 for 10 masks, which takes a big dent out of the cost. You'll pay a bit more for shipping, but it still usually works out cheaper than most other places. You can check their eBay store (rubyruby76) and see if they have a better deal shipping wise. MBD can be purchased at Walmart, Amazon, Target, Sasa, BGO, and probably a dozen other shops that I have forgotten. :) They're usually $9-$12 per box depending on where you're getting them.
> How often do you put on a face mask?
I hate to preach YMMV but it's definitely one of those scenarios. Depending on how my skin is behaving, I'll wear them nightly, or sometimes 1-3 times a week. It's just a matter of how much moisture I need.
> pH lesson with Asian beauty products please!
There's quite a bit of research on the topic, but the
not soshort version of why low pH cleansers help your moisture barrier can be found here and here> Should I try the bubbling clay mask from Milky Piggy?
I'm not really sure about this, I'll defer to the other posters about it being more of a novelty than anything else. I haven't gone down the wash off mask rabbit hole yet. I'm more of sleeping pack/sheet mask fan, myself.
> Black head remover?
If you're really looking for a good black head remover, I'd suggest BHA once you've gotten your moisture levels to a good place. Before that, there's a few clay masks and steam starter creams that may help out. Whatever you do, don't use pore strips. I guess this is a YMMV thing too, but I have heard that people have damaged the skin on their nose by using them. Better to be safe then sorry. Massaging while oil cleansing may help you to push some of them out as well.
> General idea for my first haul?
For dry skin? I'd do a search on the sub for concrete ideas but make sure to include products with ceramides to seal in moisture. I like the Moisture Barrier line from Goodal, but it is by no means the end all be all. Guerisson 9 products work well too, and Dr. Jart has an awesome Ceramide line as well.
For around 10 years now! I haven't perfected anything, and ymmv as always, but here's what I've found and tried
So I've managed to limit the new bumps for now, but the PIH from KP is real. I'm casually experimenting with vitamin c and retinol (on different nights or with at least 30 minutes between application), but I think it's gonna take time. Niacinamide is also supposed to help so I sometimes sprinkle some of my Scinic Honey AIO. Let me know if you do find something that works for this because I hate it!
I LOVE AZELAIC ACID. So I pretty well thought I would live with a red face forever along with a severely damaged moisture barrier. The biggest thing that helped me was azelaic acid. I use Melazepam from Amazon. Cheap and works! It's thick at first but smoothes into my skin leaving it kinda matte. At first it itched like crazy and I wasn't using it consistently enough. Then after more research, I decided to use it up and give it a chance. Along with anything high in ceramide, my skin got used to the 20% AzA. Maybe around the 10th day of twice daily use, my skin finally started to look normal. I also switch my oil cleanser to an olive oil based one and saw even more improvement in my redness. I've just added in Vit C to my under eye area and continuing to use Melazepam around the rest of my face and neck and my ENTIRE COMPLEXION is EVEN NOW! Would never have believed that was possible. Melazepam has also minimized my SFs on my nose, has finally stopped this ingrown hair on my neck from forming (I've had it for years!!!), and has cleared all the CCs on my forehead. I repeat: I loooooove azelaic acid, specifically Melazepam!
Current routine:
AM
Garnier Micellar Water - pink cap or Cerave Foaming cleanser
Cosrx Aha/bha Clarifying Treatment Toner
BELITAE Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid to my under eye area and upper cheeks
Melazepam to the rest of my face and neck, especially my nose. Sometimes I wait after the Vit C but not usually since I don't use them in the same spots.
I do wait 15-20 minutes after my actives step.
SCINIC First Treatment Essence 3 skin method. My face loves this more than the Missha FTE.
SCINIC Snail All In One Ampoule or SCINIC Honey All In One Ampoule depending on the day.
CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion
A'PIEU PURE BLOCK Natural Sun Cream SPF45/PA+++ I don't see much sunlight at all but when I do, this one keeps me from turning beet red imediately upon application.
Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Derma Green-Cure Solution Recover Cream This is the best thing I've found for redness and skin barrier repair! My skin loves ceramides so much and this soothes like nothing I've found yet.
Medela Tender Care Lanolin Tube on my lips. Yes it's nip cream. I couldn't use it all up while nursing and it causes my skin to redden so it's perfect for a little lip color.
PM
ROHTO Hada Labo Gokujun Cleansing Oil My skin reacted to Holika Holika Soda Pore B.b Deep Cleansing Oil so this is my second one to try and I'm really enjoying it.
Cerave Foaming cleanser with a konjac sponge but waiting on
Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam in the mail.
Cosrx Aha/bha Clarifying Treatment Toner
BELITAE Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid to my under eye area and upper cheeks
Melazepam to the rest of my face and neck, especially my nose like the AM.
SCINIC First Treatment Essence 3 skin method.
All depending on how I'm feeling that evening:
LJH TeaTree 90 Essence
SCINIC Snail All In One Ampoule
SCINIC Honey All In One Ampoule
Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence
Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
MIZON Snail Repair Eye Cream
Petitfee Black Pearl and Gold Hydrogel Eye Patch Not sure if I like these or not honestly...
Some or all of these layers followed by CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion and
Guerisson 9 Complex Horse Oil Cream
Pretty sure my shower filter, Mermosis, has also helped my skin and hair.
I also use sometimes REVITABOOST PEEL Anti-Aging Peel Pads or Cosrx Bha Blackhead Power Liquid but I skip my AzA on those days and just go back to my regular routine the following day. These are rare for me though because they make me ridiculously red again.
Things I'm waiting on in the mail:
ROSETTE Aqua Ceramide Gel
Rumase BIFIDA Snail Toner
Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam
It's Skin Power 10 Formula - PO Effector
Hoping the all work well for me too!
Welcome! :) Ceramide products are good at repairing your skin's moisture barrier and are good moisturizing products. If these sound like things you are looking for, I highly recommend getting some products with ceramide in them! A popular product is the Rosette Ceramide Gel.
Vitamin C is a good idea, just make sure you start slow, like once a week. Also, actives such as vitamin C are a form of chemical exfoliation. You want to make sure you have a few solid moisturizers at the ready to compensate for the drying nature of actives.
Snails are a great idea too, but they don't have the same mind-blowing affect for everyone who uses them. Its a very Your Milage May Vary (YMMV) sort of thing! A popular snail product is the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. This product has 96% snail mucin, so it'd be a good way to see if snail is an effective ingredient for you. (because 10% snail in a good cream may give you good results, but it may not be because of the snail if you catch my drift!)
However! First and foremost, if hyperpigmentation is your problem and you have no routine, start with a sunscreen! If the word makes you cringe, don't worry, AB sunscreens don't tend to be as thick and sticky as Western suncreens.
Which brings me to two threads you should start with. The AB Beginner Guide is a good place for basic information. The Holy Grail Thread is a good place to see what products people with your same skintype swear by.
ALSO I wouldn't recommend using sheet masks meant for your face on the rest of your body. Sheet masks are usually a temporary fix for your skin issues and I would not rely on them to do any major skin whitening. I'd pick a product that you can use on the body and that will give you consistent results. Try products with niacinimide and arbutin, which are whitening ingredients.
That's what I have to contribute! Feel free to ask more questions and good luck!
I get pretty obsessive with things so I'm not sure if you really want my routine since you want something simple to travel. Taking out the actives, aha/bha, essence, serums, and eyecream that I'm using, you can basically strip it down to a cleanser, toner, moisturizer.
If you want a cleanser, everyone here is really into the hada labo gokujyun foaming cleanser (http://www.amazon.com/Rohto-Hadalabo-Gokujyn-Hyaluronic-Cleansing/dp/B0036MDUEM). It has a ph of 5.5 so it's a solid cleanser that won't raise the ph of your skin. Follow that up with a toner. I'm currently using the Mizon AHA/BHA toner. Ph is too high for the bha to exfoliate and too high for the aha to exfoliate (they each exfoliate differently, though) so it's really just a useful toner to get your skin ph at a good point. Then the moisturizer. Like I said, I'm using the Mizon all in one cream and it's really awesome. It feels like I didn't put anything on afterwards but my skin is really hydrated and soft. Depending on how dry your skin gets, though, you might also need the recovery gel to use right after, which basically adds a little more hydration and seals it in.
If you decide to add an essence, that would go right after the toner. You said that you were using some of your girlfriend's sk-ii products--were you using the essence? It's kind of expensive (at least out of my budget as a student) so I'm using the Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence.
If you do decide to use any actives, specifically aha, make sure to use sunscreen because your skin gets a lot more vulnerable to uv rays and then everything is counterproductive since you're damaging your skin. Paula's Choice AHA and BHA are really popular, but so are the CosRX AHA and BHA and those are apparently gentler on your skin. If you're really sensitive to chemical sunscreens, go for a physical sunscreen (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide). Keep in mind, though, that most physical sunscreens leave a whitecast, but there are some that don't. Some pretty popular sunscreens on here are the hado labo UV creamy gel sunscreen, but apparently it doesn't dry very quickly. I'm not really trying to make my face shiny and I'm already getting the moisture from the mizon AIO, so I'm using the biore watery essence sunscreen-dries quickly and doesn't smell like sunscreen. If you do add the aha, meaning you add the sunscreen, you're going to want to add an oil cleanser.
Double cleansing is when you use an oil cleanser and then use a facial cleanser afterwards. The regular foaming or face cleanser doesn't take out makeup (or sunscreen) very well, so to make sure you get all that out at the end of the day, so that you don't start breaking out, use an oil cleanser at night before using your regular foaming or facial cleanser (I'm using the DHC oil cleanser since most people are in love with it).
At night, like twice a week, I just add either a sheet mask (my beauty diary ones are a pretty popular choice but the face shop also has good ones) or a sleeping pack(I'm using the laneige sleeping pack_ex).
If you decide you want to add any vitamin c or any aha or bha, let me know and I can give you more info on where to include that in your routine/some stuff to consider (like waiting twenty minutes after vitamin c).
There are lots of sites to buy from but I'm a big fan of beautynetkorea
First of all, I am an employee at a major western beauty retailer in none other than the field of skin care. I am very familiar with ingredients and quite savvy at building skin care routines to fit my clients' needs... and I'm proud of it. That being said, I've found that many of the products my employer offers are too harsh or contain ingredients I don't agree with; in addition, we don't sell a huge variety of AB, at least not enough to satisfy my liking.
SOOOO, this is kind of new territory for me. I know one thing for a fact: I LOVE love LOVE snail. Below, I have a tentative list of AB products I have researched and have added to my Amazon.com cart and would love to hear from this community about my choices. I would love to hear recommendations as well. Below, I'll list the products by AM or PM routine (as I've planned).
A little background:
Tentative PM Products:
Tentative AM Products:
I would also like recommendations for a twice a week exfoliator (preferably Lactic Acid or Enzyme) and sheet mask recommendations to go along with my tentative routines?
THANKS, GUYS. I know this is long, but I'd really appreciate the feedback.
Sunscreen: you have to use the full amount (quite a bit) for it to work at all reliably. Mineral still has to be touched up if you are out in the sun for more than 2 hours. It is more stable than some chemical sunscreens but doesn't mean it doesn't wear off. Makeup doesn't count as suncreen but is a nice extra boost of SPF.

All sunscreens are anti aging. Sun is one of the biggest agers and the most prevetable. I don't use mineral sunscreens so can't suggest one. There are mixes that might be more elegant. Look for SPF 50++++ if it's an Asian one (very nice sunscreens).

Toner could be anti aging but probably best to focus on hydration now. Hada Labo Premium lotion is popular and quite rich. Kikumasamune Hight Moist Conditioner is quite hdyrating and can be layered. Klairs supple prep is popular.

Don't use Dove soap. High PH.. Try an Asian low PH cleanser. Maybe Hada labo Foaming: https://www.amazon.com/Hada-Labo-Gokujyn-Hyaluronic-Cleansing/dp/B01CE5P580/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=hada+labo+cleanser&qid=1551212774&s=gateway&sr=8-5

If foaming is too much for you, Neutrogena Ultra Gentle are supposed to be good. I use Cerave Hydrating Cleanser.

I also use an oil cleanser to remove makeup and sunscreen. I really like Muji Sensitive Oil Cleanser, but Hada Labo Oil Cleanser is fine. Cliniques Take the Day off Balm is great too.

I like Etude Soonjung Barrier Cream - medium weight and hypoallergenic.

Hello~ I've been stalking the Korean beauty industry for years, but have never committed due to random reasons. I want to try my hand at it next year (need to use up my stupidly expensive Sephora products). Here's a routine I created - mostly from Snow White & The Pear's reviews. For the record, I have eczema (thanks god, no flares right now) and sensitive (contact allergies), oily skin. I know. How can I have eczema and oily skin? OTL
I'm not sure if the order and frequency of use is correct, so please help me! And yes, these are a lot of products for a beginner, so I think I'll start with only one toner first then work my way up to using more essences. Suggestions for cleansers and toners would also be nice, since I'm not sure if the Clinique thing is intended as a cleansing toner. I also have a question about sebaceous filaments? Is it alright to get rid of them with nose masks? Would it make my pores bigger? I feel like my nose pores are huge and my buddies are EXTREMELY visible. Recommendations on peeling masks and other masks would be great too, as I'm not really sure what kind of masks I would need?
Does she use any skincare (not makeup, but lotions, etc) currently? Ideally we suggest things based on a person's skintype, current products, etc.
A good bet would be some sheet masks - a paper mask with a serum on it you use for 20-30 minutes - they come in a variety of flavors and are one-time use. Unfortunately, you're cutting it close and most of whats available in a timely matter from amazon will be Korean/Taiwanese (if she's picky about japanese stuff).
Some amazon options are:
Some Japanese mask options:
And if you search "My Beauty Diary" there's a LOT of other varieties of sheet mask available on amazon that are well loved.
Also, feel free to join the IRC channel. We've helped wayward SO's pick out gifts in the past.
I haven't heard of the BHA-claymask-Oil cleanse method. I actually don't have much need to oil cleanse, as I don't wear makeup or sunscreen (Bad girl! BAD!) and the Good Morning Cleanser works as both a 1st and 2nd cleanser (2 in 1 bonus! Score!). I am working to get better with the sunscreen, but only just got in my first 2 this week.
The blackhead liquid does kinda sit on my skin, but I feel like that's kinda what it's supposed to do - soften the oil plugs so my AHA can be more effective. That's also why I cleanse again after using it.
I do use (and love) kaolin clay and masks. The Body Shop Tea Tree 3-in-1 cleanse/scrub/mask I mentioned before is one of my HGs. I use it while in the shower about once a week: scrub it on, let it sit while I wash the rest of me (it does have a strong tea tree smell and gets tingly on your skin, but I like that) then scrub it a little more before washing it off. After getting out of the shower, I use the pH adjusting toner, then add my BHA liquid and let it sit. I will admit, I have no idea what the pH of this product is, and don't have a way to test it myself. I find that after this routine (Body Shop TT 3-in-1 or the GM cleanser, BHA, AHA, warm water scrub) my blackheads and SFs are drastically reduced. It was actually pretty shocking to me the first time I did it - I was looking in the mirror going, The pores on my nose are gone!!! lol
I can't really tell you what to get - Sorry! But getting the Green Tea samples is definitely worth it, as if you don't like it, you're not out very much $. Fortunately, both the Mizon Snail and TonyMoly Green Tea are pretty cheap. The Snail comes in a 2-pack on Amazon for $17, or one for $11. The Green Tea samples linked above are super cheap (<$2), and the full size is only $13 on YesStyle or RRS.
Like with most K-beauty products, a little goes a long way with both.
if you live in a dryer environment (or your skin is crazy dehydrated and thirsty like mine!), maybe go for both, or maybe try the Green Tea in the Skin or Essence. I can't choose between the two because they do different things - The Green Tea is plumping and hydrating, and the Snail is pigment-reducing and healing (and occlusive, but not greasy).
Sorry, I blabber on...
I work in an environment where there is a lot of bicarbonate in the air. Since bicarbonate is alkaline, im worried that im messing with my skin's pH. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to combat the alkalinity with maybe a toner, or lotion, or anything?!! something that would bring my skin's pH down to the slightly acidic level it should be at. I've also noticed my skin get a lot drier ever since starting work there. Has anyone tried ROSETTE Ceramide Gel?? How does it compare with the CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion i currently use in my routine?
I'm asking AsianBeauty because your products & recommendations helped me a lot!!
PS, i think my skin is clog-prone, so keep that in mind when recommending products!! (i've read a lot that people got clogged skin from the CeraVe that i use, but to me, it doesn't clog my skin at all! just thought i'd mention it since even though it clogs a lot of people's skin, it doesn't clog mine, so still recommend whatever it is that came to mind!! even if it may clog skin!!)
Skin type: on the sensitive side || Country/Climate i'm in: Canada // colder weather approaching now :(((
Ethnicity: White (Eastern-European)
Top Skin Concern: CCs and hyperpigmentation, and acne :(((
Current Routine / Products I'm Using:
AM
on Thursdays and Sundays, after splashing my face with water and patting dry, i apply ZOMEDICAL Glycogent and then follow up with the rest of the routine (Cerave and EltaMD)
PM
on Thursdays and Sundays, instead of washing with the Hada Labo cleansing foam, i wash with CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser and then apply ZOMEDICAL Brightenex, and i DO NOT apply the CeraVe lotion over that
I'm an 18-year old female, if that helps, who may or may not have hormonal issues (don't get a regular period :/) and i eat gluten- and dairy- free, and i limit the amount of sweets i have (mainly i eat protein and veggies, or protein and fruits throughout the day). Also, i drink only teas and water (no fruit juices, coffee, or pop!). I also don't eat artifical things/things with preservatives, etc. (i like to eat things that are minimally processed).
Any help is appreciated
Sorry for the lengthy post, i just want to make sure you have as much info so you can best recommend something for me!!
TL;DR started working where the air is alkaline. worried about that fucking up my skin's pH and the horrible clogged skin, dry skin, reddness, etc, that results from that. wondering if there's anything i could add to my routine to combat the alkalinity -- perhaps a toner, lotion, etc, that will bring down my skin's pH to a more acidic level (as it naturally should be slightly acidic). ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED ❤❤
*edited for formatting & added in ethnicity in case that's useful??
Hi guys, I've been loving AB for about a year now but I haven't stuck to one routine for more than a few months at a time, mainly due to travel and addiction to trying new things 😅 I'm sorry for the epic novel to follow, skip to the bottom if you want. I'm just so tired of dealing with crap skin!
I've had a horrible breakout in the last few months on my back that I can't seem to shake. I don't know why. I got back on the pill after being off it for several months in the hopes of fixing the breakout; it's helping a little but I'm only just starting my second month back on the pill so it might take a while to see results.
Of more concern to me is a new cystic breakout along my jawline--I haven't had such sore acne in years. I'm 19 and I've gotten my acne a lot better under control thanks to the pill and PocketDerm (don't like the name Curology lol) but I've dealt with it in varying forms of severity since like 6th grade.
Before the cysts (bear with me here!) were all these closed comedones, as well as tiny white marks on my face--some raised, some not--which are either CCs or scars, I'm not sure. I plan to eventually get laser treatment because I hate the texture of my skin and all the PIH I have but I want to make sure I'm stopping new breakouts before I spend a ton of money on treating old scars.
So basically I've stripped down my routine to complete, tried and true basics in the hopes of not irritating my skin and making sure nothing's breaking me out. And yet I have like three whiteheads on one side of my face near my mouth and cystic acne on my jawline and near my temples. Nothing has changed in my lifestyle, I haven't added anything new to my routine...please give me any ideas or product suggestions!
TLDR my skin is somewhat freaking out, may be hormonal but I want help setting up a routine to help my moisture barrier, acne, and PIH
Oily/Acne-Prone: | Boston, USA/Dry, windy: | Acne, PIH:
Current Routine/Products I'm Using:

I used to use Korres Wild Rose 24-HR Brightening and Moisturizing Cream at night too but I stopped because I stopped everything I thought might be irritating.
I specifically want help with rebuilding my moisture barrier, calming down current and stopping future breakouts, and maybe adding an exfoliant or Vitamin C to my routine...any advice?
Hi there! I only have KP on my arms, but I have been using Pond's Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream (not AB, sorry). I originally bought it to use as an AHA step for my face, but I'm taking a break from actives on my face right now. So, not wanting to waste it, I started using it on my arms. It has actually really helped! Probably thanks to the AHA. You might also want to add a BHA if your pores are getting clogged.
Also, I haven't tried this on my arms, but I've recently started the Rosette Ceramide Gel on my face and HOLY WOW. In like 3 days it's drastically improved my skin. It is so much smoother and glowing! I might try using it on my arms soon, I feel like it would help the texture drastically.
I have a feeling that moisturizing helps my KP in general, so whatever I use I try to make sure my skin stays nice and moisturized. YMMV, though.
I second u/pleasekisumi's suggestion to add oil to your routine, but if you are afraid that an oil-based cream would feel too heavy for you to start, I suggest putting in a few drops of non- comedogenic facial oil to your current moisturizer. Great choices are rosehip oil, argan oil, sea buckthorn oil, and meadowfoam oil. I'm acne-prone and use all those oils to great effect. At night, it would be a good idea to seal in the moisture with a water-based sleeping pack (like Laneige water sleeping mask) so you do not lose all your moisture overnight.
For sunscreens, make sure you wait still your moisturizer dries down before applying it. The Japanese make great sunscreens and the array could be dizzying, but here are a few I recommend: this, this, [this](http://www.amazon.com/Biore-SARASARA-Perfect-Bright-SPF50/dp/B00SM99KWA/ref=sr_1_8_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1458088811&sr=1-8&keywords=biore+sunscreen], this, this.
I can't recommend anything more specific than that as there is so much trial and error involved. I personally like watery gels that try down matt, but I make sure to pump my skin with moisture beforehand even though I have oily skin.
Good luck!
I've tried all those sunscreens, so I can give my opinion.
I find Biore aqua rich watery essence/gel to be shiny on me. They definitely have a dewy glow. The watery gel is a better value because the bottle is considerably bigger, plus it has UVA-1 protection (which apparently the watery essence is lacking). Watery gel has a small amount of titanium dioxide; not enough to cause a white cast, but it adds a bit of a nice glow.
Biore Perfect milk (blue bottle). WAY too much white cast on my very pale skin. It's also too matte. And it smells very strongly of alcohol.
Elta MD Shield is my favorite sunscreen. It seems stronger than the Asian sunscreens because of the high percentage of zinc oxide and the thicker texture. I feel protected when I wear it. It's very smooth and goes on without leaving much shine. Elta MD uses micro zinc, so it makes my skin a little lighter but doesn't leave a heavy white cast. Actually, I love to put a thin layer of the Biore aqua rich watery gel on for the glow + moisture, then put on 2 layers of the Elta MD Shield.
I did not like Elta MD Sport at all. It has a strange plastic/sunscreen smell and is incredibly shiny.
One more for you to consider: Shiseido Senka Aging Care UV Sunscreen. It had a non-greasy texture, no white cast at all. If it didn't have avobenzone, I would have continued to use this.
So I've been a long time lurker and reader and thought I'd introduce myself and my new routine to the community. Special thanks to /u/mynomdeplumeisplume for the amazing guide that finally got me to pull the trigger!

(Sk)intro and review
I'm a 24 year old male in the UK with light olive/brown skin that is pretty resilient but can be prone to spots. I have some PIH on my upper cheeks and forehead and dark circles under my eyes. Generally speaking I've gone for products that are formulated for sensitive skin and pretty "mainstream" from what I've seen in AB circles so far. They've been working great and my skin has never looked so good.

Special shout out to the Biore UV for being the first sunscreen that I actually don't dread using. I've not used sun protection much in the past because of how greasy it feels but this has been a dream. I'm going to stick to it for another week before adding a toner and my first essence - any suggestions for brightening/hydrating/PIH tackling would be great and also where to buy the Biore that isn't amazon. That's all for me, thanks for reading any questions and critiques would be welcome.
It largely depends on where you live and how quickly you need the items. As a general rule, if you're willing to wait a bit, you can find items much cheaper from non-Prime sellers on Amazon and overseas sellers on eBay. Also, if you're just purchasing a few things and they are heavy items, I find it's usually cheaper to stay away from sites with high shipping charges by weight, like Testerkorea and RoseRoseShop.
I usually do a lot of research when I make a new product purchase to find the lowest price from a reputable seller that I can. Partly because I just like shopping online for AB stuff and partly because I make it into a sort of game to see how cheap I can find something. It's like a hobby for me.
I recommend the Honey browser extension for Amazon. If you're looking for something it will tell you if there's a cheaper price available from another seller. It also goes through available coupon codes on many other online sites to see if there's one in the database that works for your order.
Anyway, I'm not sure where you live, but I did a bit of looking (I'm in the U.S.), and this is what I came up with. I can't guarantee these are the best prices out there -- just what I found from a bit of quick looking at a few different places.
Hado Labo foam for $9.40 with free shipping on Amazon (not Prime) here
The Face Shop Cleansing Oil - $9.58 with free shipping from Jolse here or $10.20 on Amazon Prime here.

Rosette Aqua Ceramide Gel - $12.45 with free shipping (non-Prime) on Amazon here.
For a few months I've been functioning on a lean routine:
Skin Type: sensitive | Country/Climate I'm in: UK | Top Skin Concern: dehydration
Current Routine/Products I'm Using:
AM
PM
I decided it was time to flesh it up in preparation for getting started on actives in the near future, so I decided to keep focusing on hydration. I have never tried any snail-based products, so I picked Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence as an essence/serum to incorporate after my Kohaku Hada lotion. This is the first product I will be trialling.
In about a month, I'm hoping to integrate the Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream which has had mixed reviews, but that I really wanted to try and that I hope will suit my needs and my skin.
After that, the second-to-last step will be to add the Too Cool For School Pumpkin Sleeping Pack which also has mixed reviews, but I've read a couple of glowing ones by people with similar skin types, so I'm hoping it'll work for me!
The last step, which isn't pictured here, will be to incorporate sheet masks. I'm waiting for a batch of My Beauty Diary Black Pearl sheet masks, and will be trying those out as soon as I'm happy (or unhappy!) with the Cosrx essence.
This a UK haul, and I've managed to find all three items on Amazon Prime (links included). Thanks for reading! :)
For flaking skin, I love to read /u/Sharkus_Reincarnus 's blog posts. She is on tretinoin too and talks a lot about hydrating skincare products. Here is her routine specifically for tretinoin, and another post about tretinoin skincare.
For me, I have heard great things about rosehip oil added into nighttime creams to boost moisturization(I made this word up). I use it sometimes but sometimes I think it is TOO heavy but YMMV.
I do think AHA is better for surface exfoliation, and is usually the best product for CC's. Especially good for a tretinoin face to consider yourself dry-skinned anyway.
For PIH, introducing more products with niacinamide would be great for skin, and hydrating! I use the Scinic AIO Honey Ampoule and Cerave PM, both are economical products that contain niacinamide at the same time!
Ooo and as for Hada Labo I use their Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion and like it a lot! I use it a hydrating toner after doing all my actives. I (like to) think it plumps my skin up and makes product absorption easier in the rest of my rotuine
I used a lot of acne face cleansers only to realize that they messed up my skin barrier (my face was really oily and prone to white heads)! My current AM face routine is Laneige White Plus Renew Bubble Cleanser followed by Missha FTE (currently testing this), Laneige White Plus Renew Emulsion + Essence. At night I cleanse first with DHC's Cleansing Oil, and then the same routine as AM but I seal in my moisturizers with Vaseline. After about three weeks of this routine, my face is no longer producing massive amounts of oil (although I still have residual hyperpigmentation and some white heads, hoping it'll be clearer in another week or two!)
If you're looking for cheaper moisturizers, Hada Labo makes a nice toner and lotion which I found to be quite useful (although it didn't agree with my skin in the long run. I've also had good results with Hadanomy Collagen line for cheap moisture! It seems a little counter-intuitive, but give yourself about a month trying out a new regime and see if that works better for you. Sunscreen is also very important, make sure you wear it every day even if it's overcast. I would also reiterate /u/herezy by focusing on skincare first before makeup! Good luck :)! It's frustrating at first but once you settle into a routine that works for you it's pretty amazing.
I'm actually thinking of narrowing down the number of products I use, though this list doesn't seem to indicate that. I love my Benton + MISSHA lineup but I'm getting older and thinking I need a little more oomph. In any case, things I'm looking at that I will probably not buy for a long time:
>Daytime Serums
>Sunscreens
>Nighttime Cleansers
>Nighttime Serums
>Nighttime Creams
>Special Treatments
My skin: Relatively pale, normal to slightly oily skin.
Biore Watery Gel (2019) or EltaMD UV Clear 46? Or possibly even Biore Watery Essence (2019)? I was also looking at the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk Pink, but I’m slightly worried about the brightening effect as I’m a guy and don’t want people to ask me if I’m wearing something on my face. I don’t want anything noticeably “brightening.” That may sound dumb but I’ve never worn something with a brightening effect so I don’t know what it entails.
I don’t wear makeup and have normal to slightly oily skin. Use tretinoin at night. Currently use Shiseido Senka Aging Care UV Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ but it’s got a bit too oily/dewy finish for me. If I apply an 1/8th of a teaspoon, wait five minutes, and then apply an 1/8th more it’s not so bad though. Plus I don’t like that it’s not water, sweat, or sebum resistant.
I would prefer for the sunscreen to give at most a slight glow, but generally more in the neutral/invisible look or matte.
I’m leaning towards the EltaMD but I’m unsure if it will be good in the summer, or if I’ll need something lighter. As well, the EltaMD is $33 for like 47ml. I can get the Biore Watery Gel for $27 for 155ml. As well I can get the Biore Watery Essence for about $22 I believe for 85ml.
Currently I’m pretty limited to Amazon Prime as I’m nearly out of sunscreen and don’t want to wait for shipment. So I’m trying to only get sunscreens fulfilled by amazon so that they get to my house in a few days and not a few weeks.
I find as the seasons change (it's getting warmer around where I am) my skin kinda freaks out and becomes very sensitive, especially the skin around my eyes.
Another commenter mentioned the Kikumasamune, but there's another one that's popular too called Cezanne. There are a lot of reviews on here about both. Hada Labo also makes a moisturizing toner. I think the key point it to layer moisture. So toner, essence, moisturizer.
Also, if you're not using a sunscreen you should get that as well (I can't remember off hand if the AM lotion you're using has SPF).
Also, one guide I like to link a lot is a beginner's guide by Snow White and the Asian Pear. She has a great graphic and examples of each type of product, just to give you a good overview and then you can go from there. I would say it's best to find a blogger that has similar skin concerns to you, because they're going to be your best bet on getting recommendations as they have been there, done that.
Edit: oops!! lol I didn't realize the comment had the same products listed, sorry!
Hydrating Face Wash in pump bottle: Just started using this and I really like it so far. I keep meaning to see if it can take off sunscreen but I keep forgetting not to do a 1st cleanse. LRP Toleriane Gentle Hydrating Cleanser was my HG, but this might be better. Will repurchase unless it runs out fast. Only $9, but my $14 ($9 on sale) LRP has lasted forever.
Gokujyun Lotion Moist: Love it, use it every AM. Much thinner than premium, sets quickly. Plays well under sunscreen. Might repurchase, but my try a different gokujyun lotion in its place.
Gokujyun Premium Lotion: Love it, use it every PM. Sometimes apply a lesser amount with wet hands to help the small amount spread better and find that it sets well (same with Kiku High Moist). Have already repurchased, will continue to do so.
Has anyone used the green ones? The Blemish & Oil control lotion or face wash? I'm tempted. idk why.
Yes, AB using cleansing oils. It's a bit different than skincareaddiction (if you're also a fan of that sub) because most of the AB cleansing oils contain emulsifiers, which when mixed with water, allows the cleanser to wash cleanly off. Just to make sure that nothing is left on the skin, most ABs follows through with a foaming or hydrating cleanser (double cleanse). If you have mineral oil left and it doesn't break you out, keep using it and make sure that you are double cleansing. Once you are done with the mineral oil, you can check out some AB cleansing oils and see which style your skin prefers.
If you're fine with mineral oil, I would recommend trying Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil. It looks like this in the pink bottle. I like it more than the Deep version because it contains no fragrance, which is great for my sensitive skin. You can try using something cheaper like Cetaphil for dry skin (I think Walgreens even makes a generic one that is exactly the same) as the second part of your double cleanse, or check out the AB sidebar for some recommendations.
The good thing about having a compromised moisture barrier (can I even say this), is that it's not permanent. If you take the time to change your routine and baby your skin a bit, it will turn back to normal. I had a messed up barrier for awhile before finding AB, and once it was fixed I was pretty amazed at how much better my acne situation became.
So, focus on fixing your barrier first, then when you're ready, you can start to expand your skin routine to include products that focus on your skin goals (vitamin c, chemical exfoliants, etc.). Because you are on a budget, I would buy samples of everything first to make sure that your skin likes the product. I have a box of things I cannot use, because of my AB greed. :(
Good luck!
So, I found three new products after doing some bit of research.
KOSE Softy Mo Facial Cleansing Oil Speedy - I read that they updated the formula 6 months ago and all the reviews I could find are of the old formula, but of the old reviews everyone praised it for the skin issues I had. Also, I can't find the pH level of this one.
Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash - Plan to use this after oil cleanser. I read similar good reviews on this one for issues I have with my skin. The pH level is 5 according to that mega datasheet for cleanser pH levels.
Advanced Snail 92 All in one cream - Plan to replace my current moisturizer with this. Like the other two, read good reviews for my skin concerns with this one.
I don't think any of them have the niacinamide product you mention or alcohol, which I think dries my skin. I don't think my current moisturizer is working for me. After about two to three hours of applying my current moisturizer in the morning my skin may start to feel tight around my mouth/cheeks, so I picked a new one.
Aside from these three, I still need to find a toner I think. I already found two sunscreens that I plan to use. I don't know which of the three to buy first and test though. If I were to buy the oil cleanser first, would it be fine to use with my western routine? I figured it'd be best to get the oil cleanser/moisturizer first, then the second cleanser if the other two worked out. At the same time my current cleanser is making my skin feel tight/dry/flaky after using it so would it be better to start with replacing my cleanser first?
I really appreciate all the help you've given me by the way, it's helping me out so much.
Tbh I don't think it's the percentage of hyaluronic acid that makes the Gokujyun lotion so great, but the molecular weight of it. The lotion uses a low molecular weight of HA which is more bioavailable, i.e. it will sink deeper into your skin rather than just sitting on top. The Gokujyun lotion actually uses 5 different types of HA with different molecular weights which, in theory, can hang onto moisture in varying levels of your skin. HA is also only effective in skincare products up to a certain concentration, so trying to maximize the amount of HA you get per dollar spent is probably going to be a waste of time at a certain point.
As far as cost is concerned, I got mine on Amazon for about $10. I'm really pleased with it so far and don't think I am missing out on any HA goodness because it's only $10.
>I recently stopped by the Grand Asian market (Cary NC)
Could you report back what other brands they carry when you go back? That store has been there since before I moved to Cary as a child ( pre 1995 omg). Only went in there once or twice but when I come back for a visit definitely making a shopping trip (also for the food) there.
As for Hada Labo, the Gokujun Lotion is super popular on the sub as well as in Japan. Also, the moisturizing perfect gel has started to get some love on this sub as well which I think would be good for you as a moisturizer.
Yaaaaaas. This, so much! Oil cleansing + hydrating foaming/cream second cleanser have totally changed the game for me with my super dry skin. I personally love Kose Softymo. I use the Speedy version right now, but the Deep Cleansing version has my eye!
I'm also washing with Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating Cleanser, which I like a lot! Super mild.
Lastly, as a facial oil, Goodal Wateriest Water Oil has been particularly popular lately, and for good reason! I have a different version from the same line and, while I just only tried it out yesterday, it has immediately left my skin feeling leagues better.
I hope this helps!
Help! Did I buy a knockoff/discontinued Hado Labo product on Amazon?
Combo skin, only break out when stressed or wrong product, living in a temperate moist "forest" biome (I live in a city, but that's what the surrounding region is like)
Routine:
AM
Water rinse or Hado Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hylauronic Acid Cleansing Foam, one pump
Mizon all-in-one moisturizer
PM
Hado Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hylauronic Acid Cleansing Foam, one pump
Mizon all-in-one moisturizer
*Currently patch testing the Biore Sarasara Rich Watery Essence SPF50, Heimish All Clean due to be patch tested in a week. Other things that have been on my face in the a last two weeks due to shower accidents and the Zit That Just Won't Quit on my chin: Cosrx pimple patches (three straight days, that was a mistake), LUSH Let the Good Times Roll Face& Body Cleanser, Nature Republic Aqua sleeping pack
SO
I ordered the Hado Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam (160ml) on Amazon from seller Samurai Japan (massive space in between is what's on Amazon) in September 2017. I used this link and the packaging does look like this.
In the last two months of use my combo skin has started feeling tight, dry, and kinda like it stings. I went on Hado Labo's website to check ingredients and I noticed that the packaging & product name were different. The ingredients and product use instructions were the same as the ones that Amazon page, but idk if that's because they are in fact the same or if somebody just copy-pasted it off Hado Labo's site.
Does anybody know if they redesigned the packaging, reformulated the cleanser, or if this is a knockoff? Thanks!
(EDIT: just realized that when I bought the cleanser I was still using CeraVe's PM moisturizer with no problems. Winter where I live was pretty off the wall this year and has gone back and forth between cold-dry and cold-damp, so I thought it was that. Switched to the Mizon in January and like the texture of my skin much more, but yeah, still dry/tight/burning and it feels like it's getting increasingly worse.)
I use these airless pump bottles, and I love them. Prime shipping, convenient for travel and even just for at home. I find jars really annoying (esp. for products I use twice a day, every day) so these are a nice alternative for me.
I keep all my actives and second cleansers in their original containers. I generally don't bring actives when I travel. Occasionally, for longer trips, I'll bring my Dr. G Peeling Gel bc it's thicker (less risk of spillage), doesn't require wait times or a pH adjusting toner.
I decant my pH adjusting toner and FTE into spritz bottles from CVS, because I find it simpler and less drippy than trying to put liquid into my hand then onto my face. I don't use cotton pads because I feel it wastes too much product.
My Hada Labo, Mizon Snail AIO, and Scinic Honey are all in airless bottles. I also like that using bottles vs. jars "standardizes" my application. For example, rather than just putting a finger into the jar (bc I like to live on the wild side and also I lose spatulas like it's my job) and maybe getting varying amounts, I always use two and a half pumps of snail cream.
Of course, you could totally use flip caps instead for any of these... I just find the pump bottles simpler to use with less potential for mess. I will say, the airless bottles are easy to refill (especially with liquid products like the Hada Labo... coaxing my snail cream into the bottle takes a little more precision and a beauty spatula but I only have to do it like every two months) but more finnicky to sanitize than flip caps.
ETA: The only thing that should be super carefully protected from light / kept in a dark container is Vitamin C. Clear bottles should fine for everything else, provided you don't leave your products in direct sunlight, which you should never do with any skincare or makeup anyway.
Hey everyone,
me again.. I decided that I'm going to wait with the retinoid/retinol a bit longer. Will do some more research in the coming weeks/months before deciding on a product.. maybe asking a dermatologist for some advice.
Anyway, I'm (male) still looking for 3 products which I'd like to purchase tonight/tomorrow.
-----------------------------
The routine would look like this (morning+evening).
Cleanser/Face Wash -> Lotion/Toner -> Moisturizer
(You wash off the cleanser/face wash foam with water, correct? And leave the Lotion/Toner + Moisturizer on).
Anyway...
Lots of people recommended the popular Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion/Toner.
Which would be this one here, correct?
https://www.amazon.de/Rohto-Hadalabo-Gokujyn-Hyaluronic-Lotion/dp/B00BSNBO9O/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511619521&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=hada+labo+moisturizer
There's also a similar one on amazon.de which doesn't have "acid" in the name.. and one which says "(Moist) Light Type".
Which one should I go for? Probably just the one I linked above?
------------------------------
If all that is okay, then I still need a good cleanser/face wash foam and moisturizer.
Maybe someone could help me? I'd really appreciate it. I waited long enough, but can't decide what to get.
Apparently Hada Labo has good cleansers/face wash foam and mousturizers as well, but I can't seem to find a popular one.
It'd be great if it's also available on amazon.de
Sorry for bothering you folks. Appreciate all the help, I really do.
Hi everyone! I'm very new to AB and after reading through many guides and articles, I created my first routine, and it's made up of the basics (since you guys said to limit your haul to 4-5 items), I have these items in my amazon cart ready to go, but I wanted to get a second opinion!

I'm mostly curious about the BENTON serum. I've heard that it's best to only use it once (at night), but some blogs have you using them in the morning as well. Also, with the BENTON serum would I have to wait 20 minutes before moving on to emulsion? Any other comments/criticisms would be appreciated! Thank you AB!
Not sure what your skin is like, but I have oily skin and the Shiseido SENKA Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++ is the best (and only at $9.49)! It is a light sunscreen, perfect for those with oily skin or even just for the summer. The finish is matte and feels a little powdery but it won't affect the texture of your skin.
Looking for a gentle physical exfoliator? Boy, do I have the thing for you! Dew Puff Konjac sponges, especially in charcoal! Only $8.71! WOW!!! ( ꒪Д꒪)ノ

In terms of cleansers, Hada Labo certainly has some good ones. This one has been a hit with my sister, who deals with both acne and sensitivity. I love the toner that /r/sca recommended, but you may want to try it in person. Hada Labo offers different kinds of hyaluronic acid toners, with this "Moist" one being the heaviest/thickest one. They also have a lighter version that you may prefer (I know my sister thinks the Moist version is too heavy).
I hope you enjoy Taiwan! Taipei is a wonderful city, lots of good food and fun.
If you have Amazon Prime, you can get a 16 variety pack of Dermal sheet masks for ~$8.50 each here and here. I find these to be the cheapest decent quality masks I've tried so far! Cheaper ones I've tried tend to be irritating for my skin or just useless.
You can also get "free" sheet masks at Skin18, you just have to pay for shipping (by weight) so if you buy a lot of them at once it is more worth it.
(UPDATE: turns out you can only get one freebie at a time on Skin18, so maybe not so great for bulk sheet mask buys.)
If you're looking for straight up just hella bulk and inexpensive sheet masks for daily usage, KOSE sells them in a giant pack of 1/2 lb but I haven't actually used any of them myself since I have my own stash of 200+ sheet masks LOL. They have Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen.
Innisfree also really often has BOGO free deals for their sheet masks. They're more expensive than the other options I've listed but if you buy a lot at once it'll be cheaper per mask.
LASTLY, (sorry long post) there's also Korean buying services where companies will locate the items you want to buy at a lower price in Korea and ship it to you for a fee. This service is super worth it if you're planning on a HUGE haul. However it's also more complicated than just adding stuff to your cart and checking out like you would on other online stores. There's a guide on how to use the big buying services in the sidebar here if you're interested!
Honestly, there's tons of resources to buy bulk sheet masks, and if you buy a crap ton at once, they're even cheaper :P
I'm also black and have found the Shiseido Senka Aging Care sunscreen to not have any white cast at all. It's a gel texture that sinks in pretty quickly and it also is super moisturizing, which I didn't particularly like under the makeup I was using at the time and because my skin leans towards oily.
Edit to add: have you also tried mixing your new scrip with some moisturizer at first and/or not using it daily at first? I have the 0.04% tret, 8% azealic acid, 1% clyndamicin version of Curology, which was a big jump in tret for me from my last scrip, and I'm still using it mixed with some CeraVe moisturizer when I apply it. I use AHA, BHA (not every day) and occasionally do an acid peel and my skin doesn't burn when I apply my Biore Perfect Milk in the blue bottle (which has a white cast but which is the only sunscreen I love under my foundation. It doesn't oxidize orange like some others do and it acts as a lovely primer, and doesn't lighten my foundation either.). Of course we are all different and my skin is super hardy.
Ah okay. I'll check all of them out because I feel like there's very little chance any of them could break me out, right? I mean, obviously there's some chance with everything, but it would surprise me.
So I think my routine is going to look something like this:
I didn't see them mentioned but definitely check out Kose, Kracie Hadabisei and MJ Care!
Kose and Kracie are the types with multiple sheets in one pack, you get 30 masks for about $15. And MJ Care has a bunch of variety bundles at a little less than a dollar each mask. But my two favorites are Vanedo and Dermal, mentioned by runlizzyrun. You can get a pack of 25 Vanedo sheet masks for $15!
My favorites:
Kose
Kracie Hadabisei
One of the MJ Care bundles
Vanedo
Dermal
And that's the story of how I bought over 300 masks in one week.
Edit: the link prices are a little higher than what I've bought them for about a month ago, but they dip sometimes.
HG face wash that cleans well but is not drying at alllll/super gentle, and is well-priced for quantity, AND foams without sulfates:
Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam (Amazon)

Also Kiku is absolutely my love. I would have trash trash skin without it. Helps with PIH, dry skin, oily skin, balances drying from acids, good all year round, quick absorbing, nice as primer too tbh.

Both of these things have made a world of difference because my skin spirals downwards really quick if I take either of these two out, as I have sadly learned twice last year.

I'm not an expert, but I noticed right away that you're missing a few things- an oil cleanser in your PM routine (maybe you forgot it?) and an SPF, which you mention. Nothing is going to help prevent wrinkles and skin damage like SPF, so I highly recommend adding that to your routine- just search HG SPF for your skin type, and there will be a lot of good recommendations like the Biore watery essence. An oil cleanser is also going to help clean away the sunscreen, oil and dirt that your foaming cleanser might not be picking up- the Banila Co and Kose are popular. Once you've got all that in place, you might want to start looking into actives, like BHA for keeping your pores clean or Vit C for evening your skin tone/dark circles!
I mix mine with a Hyaluronic serum (either Cosrx hyaluronic essence or Hadalabo premium gokujyun "lotion") and It's Skin licorice booster. If I feel like jazzing things up I will put in some Scinic Honey AOI.
Ahah, personally I view my product's ingredient list with impunity and the skepticism of a grumpy old man. I'm not quite sold on the magic of "peptides" yet. Peptides are the featured ingredient in the Buffet, without it it's just a overpriced hydrating serum. It is 30mL for $15 CAD where as my Cosrx Hyaluronic Essence is 100mL for $18~ CAD. My Hada Labo Premium Gokyjuyn "Lotion" (really a serum) is $16.75 CAD for 170mL.
*Also cuz buffet have "urea" in it...you know, the thing that is in your urine...so yah.....I don't see myself personally using it anytime soon, lol
I would actually recommend you use a watery, hydrating toner (not western wipe-off toner) before your serum. Kikumasamune High Moist^hella^value and Hada Labo Gokujyun or Shirojyun "Lotion" are really popular here too.
(I'm linking Canadian amazon site cuz I have them saved. Feel free to search them on amazon.com if you are America; you'll probably get better pricing than me! lol)
The use of a light hydrating layer followed by a thicker serum will be more effective than use two equally thick serums. Top it off with a good emulsion/creamy lotion/moisturizing gel and you are set. :)
Hello r/AsianBeauty ! Long time lurker looking to implement more AB products into my routine. I am 22F with combination oily skin with dry spots on my cheekbones. I developed a routine half a year ago with the help from r/SkincareAddiction sidebar information. The skincare products I use at the moment seem to work for me short-term; my face feels soft and refreshed after use, but after I wake up or get home from work the oil appears to have accumulated.
I am mostly looking for foam cleanser recommendations. My current cleanser (Cleansing Story) was purchased from Marshall's and I do not live near stores that carry many AB products. I am also trying to transition from the Neutrogena to an AB cleanser.
I would greatly appreciate any pointers, tips, or recommendations. The AB routine seems really intimidating and I would like to start with 1 or 2 products. There is also a huge list of websites to order from and I am overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sites, products, and effectiveness. Which product(s) would be a good starting point for beginners? I have only ever used TonyMoly, Cleansing Story, and Face Shop (face masks) but am more than willing to try different brands. I am also on a budget, so products less than $25 are ideal. Thank you in advance!

TL;DR: AB newbie looking for a beginner-friendly foaming cleanser for oily skin. Product & brand recommendations are greatly appreciated. Also poor so less than $25 D:
I would be very careful with using Vaseline as an occlusive. Definitely patch test it for a prolong period (like 2 weeks) before going all out. Better to have a small patch of blemishes than a face full of it. It does sound like your skin might benefit from something exfoliating like the C20 to help with dullness, but without some good hydrating & occlusive products, that will just land you in trouble.
My HG hydrating & moisturizing 'products':
DYI Witch Hazel, HA, & Glycerin toner (sometimes I add a few drops of high linoleic facial oil or tea tree oil to the mixture). This is my, 'I screwed up my face using too much acne medication/trying a new product that it hates' savior. I know for a fact my skin response very well to these 3 items mixed together & I can always turn to this DYI toner without risk of a reaction. It isn't hydrating enough for me just to use it without a cream of some sort, but it is the figurative lifejacket of skincare routine.
Carezone Doctor's Solution Dematology Hydra Toner, this the most hydrating toner I've ever come across that doesn't break me out.
Carezone Doctor's Solution Dematology H.A. Cream, this cream is on the heavier side, but damn if it doesn't hydrate & moisturize my skin without causing a bad reaction.
Mediheal Mediental Balhyo-Jinjeong Healing Mask is the best damned face mask I've ever used (thank you, Snow White & Asian Pear!) Comfortable to use, crazy moisturizing, & soothing as all get out. The blue, yellow, & purple versions are extremely nice, but the green one has my heart!
I tried to go with cheaper, more accessible Asian & Western products, & soooooo much regret, especially in regards to the toner & cream. As long as they make that those 2 Carezone products & that Mediheal mask, I will be a loyal customer! My only regret is they aren't the easiest to buy. I usually get all 3 off Koreadepart but I may try another vendor the next time I need to order them.
If you're not sensitive to snail, the COSRx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence might be the way to go. It's got a pretty limited ingredient list & it's easy to get a hold of without breaking the bank.
Hello! I just got all my products in the mail but I want to be clear about the order I will use them in at night. Any suggestions are welcome.
---KOSE Softy Mo Facial Cleansing Oil Speedy
---CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser
---Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion
---Cosrx Bha Blackhead Power Liquid
---Cosrx Advanced Snail 92 All in one cream
---My Beauty Diary Facial Mask, Black Pearl
---Benton Snail Bee High content Steam Cream
---Cosrx Ultimate Moisturizing Honey Overnight Mask
Also I bought this facial oil Goodal Waterest Lasting Water Ad Oil but I'm not sure where to squeeze it into my routine?
In the morning I was going to use:
---CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser
---Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion
---Biore Sarasara UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen SPF50+ PA+++
There are two Kose Softymo cleansing oils that people love - the one you linked and the orange one: http://www.amazon.com/Kose-Softymo-Deep-Cleansing-Oil-230ml/dp/B000V2FB88
I use the orange one and it works great. It's up to you which one you think would work best!
Yes, the cleansing oil and the cleansing foam would be the two-step cleanse. Oil first, foam second.
As for the Kose foam ... I can't find any information about it's pH so I can't tell you for sure if it's good to use. You want something that is close to your skin's pH and the Hadalabo fits that. I use the orange Kose Softymo cleansing oil and the HL foaming cleanser and will continue to do so until I die :P
HOWEVER, what works for me might not work for you. There is a great cleanser list here that lists out the type of cleanser, it's pH, and brand.
Hey there! I haven't experienced breakouts in response to new products, but I am definitely acne prone in general. I really like this toner: Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Been using it for about a year and that's the product that has helped my skin the most so far. I used to get really oily - I think from my skin being dry. Since I've been using this my face never gets oily. Literally can't think of a time my face has felt oily, which I wouldn't have believed that was possible a year ago! I'm not a hardcore AB-er, so that's the only question I feel qualified to help with. Good luck with your routine! =)
Oh sweet, I'll definitely experimenting with wait times - I honestly hardly wait as it is but I was going to be a good girl with my new routine :P
Thanks, I'll go check some oils out. I did just order a variety of sheet masks, so I'm hoping they'll help as well. I'm not sure about the Hada Labo, the one I bought is this one
Thanks for your help :)

Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid
Cosrx Galactomyces 95 White Power Essence
Hada Labo Shirojyun Albutin Medicinal Whitening Lotion
Biore UV Aqua Rich Smooth Watery Gel
I'm not sure if I am missing any important steps, but please let me know if I should change anything.
I have also seen many great things about Benton Snail Bee Essence. Would it be worth adding in?
Thanks!
I highly recommend these 2 products, I use them daily and they are amazing.
Etude House Baking Powder B.B Deep Cleansing Foam-I also have acne prone super sensitive skin and I love this face wash. I use it at least 2 times a day and my skin have never been irritated once, it also helps cut oil and reduce acne.
Snail Repair Cleansing & Skin Care- This is magic in a bottle! I use this when I have extremely dry or irritated skin mostly because I want to save it for as long as I can. I can't express how well it works and it feels amazing on my skin.
Hope this helps a little! :3
Favorites are definitely the Leaders masks, particularly the AC-Dressing and the Tea Tree because I feel like they help calm my acne-prone skin. The Daiso mask is literally a silicone mask that you put over your sheet mask to prevent evaporation. It keeps in moisture so that your mask stays moist longer and it hooks behind your eye so you don't have to lie down while masking. It's great; I can watch my shows and mask without having it fall off or dry out. Look it up in the search bar--it's pretty popular :)
Hi. Can anyone tell me the difference between these Hada Labos please? I was under the impression there was two variants, the regular one with the red label and the light version with the green label. But now I am confused!
I purchased Rohto Hadarabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Smooth from Amazon. Which I have only just realised is actually HADARABO not HADA LABO. Could be a typo, or have I bought a knock off by mistake? Even though the title is HARARABO they show the brand as HADA LABO, so not sure...
I have gone on YesStyle to repurchase but they have two options available.
Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (Rich)
Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (Moist)
The part that confuses me is that the SMOOTH I purchased from Amazon and the YesStyle's RICH both have two blue boxes and one yellow at the top. The YesStyle's MOIST has one blue box and two yellows at the top. Are any or all of these the same item. Are they just different packaging or different items?!
I'd try searching "sunscreen holy grail" in the search bar- you'll get lots of suggestions that way, and can look at everyone's different skin type to see if there's something that matches what you're looking for. I use Missha sunscreens, but lots of people prefer Japanese brands due to the additional UVA protection. For hydrating toners, the Kikumasamune High Moist and Hada Labo Gokujyun are pretty popular- the first has ferments and ceramides, while the second has hyaluronic acid, so you may want to experiment to figure out what your skin likes. For AHAs, there are lots of good ones on the market- glycolic, lactic, and mandelic acid are all AHAs, so do some reading on those, but Stratia, Cosrx, (for non-AB) Sunday Riley, and Nip + Fab all make solid AHA products.

Does anybody else not use a cleanser? I've tried CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser,
Hada Labo Goku-jyun Foaming Face Wash, and Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser, Foaming Formula, and they all dry me out if I use them every night. If I just use water, my skin is fine, but I feel like my skin isn't totally clean.
I've decided to swipe my face using cotton pads soaked with Mizon AHA & BHA Daily Clean Toner, but I can't tell if it's breaking me out or not.
Does anybody have any recommendations for gentle toners or micellar waters that would be able to replace a cleanser?
Possibly looking at Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution, Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water, Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner, or some from this thread.
Edit: I've decided to buy Kose Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil as a first cleanser and use the Hada Labo as the second cleanser.
Not a product but I recommend these plastic eye droppers for liquids/serums. I have the 30ml size, which looks like it's currently out of stock. I also use airless pump bottles for my cream/gels. Note: I just realized the airless pump bottles are not currently available on Amazon.)

I transfer all my skincare into their respective containers right away just because I have a habit of dropping things like the glass bottles and some skincare items are pricey so I don't want to lose them due to being accident prone. I can also save shelf space since my medicine cabinet won't accommodate the size of things like my Hada Labo Hyaluronic Lotion Moist or Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. Now I can keep the larger bottles in a drawer/closet and keep the smaller items on the shelf. When it's time to travel I already have them in acceptable sized containers so I just toss them into the bag and I'm ready to go.
Edit: Added airless pump bottles not available :(

Hey guys, (I'm a male btw) I've been on accutane 3 times during my teens, and I still have acne (it comes back), I'm in my 20s now and figured I would try something different. I looked through the spring 2016 megathread and found products matching my skintype.
I purchased the following:
But, I realized, I don't know what I should use in the AM/PM of these. Do I just use them in order for night and day? I don't think I'd use sunscreen at night, but I think I'd be better off asking you guys for help. Thanks!
I stumbled upon this subreddit, and am so excited to discover Asian beauty. I live outside the U.S. and had someone coming to visit, so everything I purchased was from Amazon Prime so that I could get it in time. Also, being such a newbie here, shopping on other sites is a bit intimidating for me. I thought this would be helpful to others that are just starting out with Asian beauty.

My SCINIC Honey All In One Ampoule is in plastic because the lid came loose in transit and spilled everywhere, but there is still half of it in there. So far I have tried a few face masks, and I am in love. I am so excited to try it all! :)
The blue pouch on the right is a refill of [Hada Labo Shirojyun Milky Lotion] (http://amzn.com/B0171FCX5Q)
I haven't used this particular product, but I've used the watery version called Hada Labo Shirojyun Albutin Medicinal Whitening Lotion, and the regular, much lauded Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion Moist. I love the regular Gokujyun.
It should be quite hydrating, and brightening. =) Use it directly after cleansing as a toner/first treatment essence unless you're using actives, and then use first after actives.

Since you live in the US, you can probably find the Hada Labo Tokyo line online in Walgreen's, Target, or eBay - it's just the US packaging of the Japanese brand, Hada Labo, and I see a lot of comments that recommend you getting their cleanser :) For Hada Labo Tokyo, it's called their Hydrating Facial Cleanser, and yeah, it's probably the best foaming cleanser I've tried that's also low pH and super affordable (I think it's like a little less than $7 on eBay, sold by Target). I'd also highly recommend getting a thin, hydrating layer before you seal it in with a moisturizer, a lot of people like the Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion (US equivalent appears to be the Hada Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator) or the Kikumasamune Sake Skin Lotion High Moisture. As for sheet masks, there's this listing on Amazon!
Sorry I have a lot of questions...
Skin Type: Oily, Acne-Prone
Is it recommended to double cleanse? I don't wear makeup either. If so, any inexpensive but effective oil cleansers? I heard about Banila Co Zero Purity but it's kinda expensive....
EDIT: Do you recommend the [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000V2FBAQ/ref=cm_wl_huc_continue](Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil)? The price is low so I'm sorta skeptical..
Do you recommend the CosRx Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser? I looked on Soko Glam and it says it has a pH of 8.9 so I'm kinda curious..?
Should I get the Mizon Recovery Gel Cream or the Mizon Black Snail All in One Cream?
For a toner, should I get something targeted towards my skin or something just hydrating...? Because I was thinking of getting the famous Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid Lotion?
What are effective spot treatments for acne?
Thank you~ <3

ehhh, I don't always wash my face more than once a day. I'm a SAHM, so I don't always get out of the house. I've been trying to wear makeup in an effort for force myself to cleanse my face at night, but it has been irritating the bejesus out of my face. I discovered this subreddit last week and bought my first sheet masks! Tony Moly's Rice mask is amazing. I'm looking into getting AB cleansers and sunscreen, and I've compiled a list of stuff to get from amazon. I am super confused about the sunscreen though. I don't want to dry out my skin with too much alcohol. I also need proper sun protection because I'll be going outside quite a bit, and the snow reflects UV rays. Windburn is also a problem. Also is there anywhere I can buy bulk sheet masks?¸

Sure! (FYI, these are not affiliate or referral links):
Kohaku Hada Lotion Moist
Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion Moist.
To get the most effective results, they're best applied to a damp face, so apply it right after washing. Just pour a few drops into your palm, rub your hands together and pat it into your skin. Then put on your moisturizer and pray to the benevolent alien overlords for swift skin justice!
Is it safe to buy from Amazon sellers so long as they have good product ratings and feedback? I want to buy Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV, Baby Pink Mineral BB Cream, Cosrx Good Morning Gel Cleanser, and Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher. Help much appreciated!
As I have learned about skincare I realized that my skin is dry/combination, and my face has gotten much less oily since I started to focus on hydration and moisturizing. I inherited my skin from my mom, who pretty much worships at the altar of benzoyl peroxide and SA. I want to show her the light by buying her a basic set of products that focuses on hydration.
She is a bit stubborn so I want to get her a regimen that 1) is simple—uses three or less products—and 2) feels good to use—has high cosmetic elegance. I did some research and came up with this:
Hada Lobo Gentle Hydrating CleanserElegant, has hyaluronic acid, gentleedit: replacing this with Hada Labo Gokujun HA Cleansing Foam
Hada Labo Rohto Gokujun Lotion
Rosette Aqua Ceramide Gel
Just want to do a sanity check and make sure this is a good set of products before I spend the money on it. Any critiques or suggestions? She already uses decent sunscreen.

I need help with the ever mysterious Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion.
I purchased a decant of "Hadalabo Gokujyun Premium Lotion" and I think I like it? I can't really tell, but it seems to be a popular hydrating toner and I can take all the hydration I can get, haha.
Looking on amazon I see Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion and [Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist] (http://amzn.com/B00BSNBO9O). Are these different? are they different then the "premium" version I've been trying?
Is a toner even needed?! Or should I just go straight to essences and serums?! haha
Kose Softymo is a good inexpensive oil cleanser.
Excellent review comparing Hadalabo with Juju Aquamoist here. Hadalabo also has English webpages for their products.
Shiseido Anessa & Kanebo Allie sunscreens are my #1 Japanese purchase.
Shiseido Aqualabel Special Gel Cream is great for humid weather.
Kao Biore has some special Japan only items like these toners. I recommend that blog for a lot of product reviews.
Skinfoods peach sake toner has been really good for my oily/acne skin and it smells sooo good my mouth waters.
I would get a moisturizer with snail in it. It will really help heal the leftover marks from acne. Something like Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream could be a good place to start. You could do a snail essence/serum/ampoule but you really should use a moisturizer somewhere in your routine.
Also, it's not skincare related but Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder is really wonderful for oil control throughout the day.
Don't try everything at once! If you react badly to something (as acne prone people often do) you won't know what it's from. Good luck :)
She has a very wise and soothing presence, doesn't she? Wouldn't you love to have her a grandmother? She'd be the cool, skincare advice-giving grandma!
As for my lotion packs, I blend lotions and/or serums based on whatever suits the season and how my skin feels that day. I'm a complete lotion junkie and usually have 3-4 lotions that I use on a rotating basis. For example, right now my skin is feeling a bit dry because I just started Pocketderm, so I soaked my mask in a mixture of: this + this + a DIY licorice extract. The Kikumasamune has ceramides and sake filtrate (like SKII) and is super cheap for its size, Hada Labo has hyaluronic acids which are super hydrating, and the licorice extract has brightening properties. I'm basically a witch brewing nightly potions for my face. ;)
Thanks for your great reply :)
I'm unsure whether I'm sensitive to fatty alcohols tbh but I don't think my skin is usually sensitive to alcohol

This would be a lot easier if I had money lol
I've heard/tried the following and liked them:
I got mine off Amazon from a seller called Sukiyaki Japan. I'm not sure if this link works for Canada but this is where I ordered from: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000FQNIX0?ref=olp_product_details
If you look at other sellers you'll see a bunch listed with pretty positive ratings. If the link doesn't work for you, try searching "B000FQNIX0" which is the product's ASIN (kind of like an amazon product sku). Hope this helps :)

Hey everyone!
I recently started getting into Asianbeauty and as adviced by this post I bought a few items and intend to introduce them step by step. Since I am basically starting at zero I thought I'd just try the more popular ones at first and bought the COSRX Snail 92 Cream after reading about it here.
To test how my skin reacts to it I decided to use nothing else at first, no cleanser or anything. After a couple of days of usage I noticed a little bit of flaking and decided to use the Sebamed Gel underneath since it's a very minimalist product that I'm pretty sure doesn't break me out.
I tend to get noticeably shiny/oily after a while, but that doesn't bother me too much, though I've read that this might be because of dehydrated skin. So after reading about Moisture Meters, I bought this thingy since I was curious what it'll say about my skin. So after washing my face with water and applying my two products I waited a couple of minutes and tried it out and it showed 40% in the "water" section. Some hours passed and now I'm around 35% with +/- 1-2% variation depending on where I measure it. I've read that fully moistured it should be about 60%, so what's up with that and what do I do about it? Of course this is just a cheap tool and it's not my main goal to reach exactly 60%, but still the numbers I got seemed kind of low. I'm sure it's not broken or anything since it shows pretty high numbers if I for example wet my skin, dry it off a little and then measure the moisture.
Does this mean the COSRX 92 snail cream even in combination with the Sebamed Gel is just not enough and I need additional hydrating products? I'm currently just testing how my skin reacts to the COSRX 92 cream, so I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea to just add additional products already, but I'm also not sure if I should continue using only these two products, essentially leaving my skin under-hydrated for the time being. Does this maybe mean I need an entirely different product, at least as of now?
I also bought the ROSETTE Ceramide Gel since it was also pretty high on this list, though I'm currently not using it.
Hi there guys newbie here, I read the guides and could use help making a simple routine.
Skin Type: Combo Oily (dehydrated?) and shade is closest to 'neutral tan' in this pic | Country/Climate I'm in: SoCal | Top Skin Concern: making it less oily
Current Routine/Products I'm Using: I use this Simple facial wash while I'm taking a shower, and CeraVe moisturing cream afterwards. Thats pretty much it. After reading the guides I'm thinking of making the following routine.
AM
PM I'm not really sure what I should use here besides moisturizer, I'm a guy, so I have no makeup to remove.
Would a toner be worth it? I'm thinking of adding the Hada Labo Super Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion. And this would go in between the 2nd cleanser and moisturizer right?
And just to double check, I would use the cleansers while taking a shower, then toner and moisturizer after getting out, and waiting a bit before I use the sunscreen right?
Anything you guys would add or remove, or just general comments? I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible so if there are any reduncies I'd be happy to take them out.
Edit: buying these products off amazon is safe right, the all seem to be highly rated so I don't think there would be fakes
Hey! I was actually using the 3-step cleansing system when I discovered this subreddit in July.
I was dealing with tons of breakouts. Upon educating myself on here I stopped using the toner (very, very harsh and astringent) and added this oil cleanser to my routine: https://www.amazon.com/Facial-Cleanser-Natural-Cleansing-Moisturizer/dp/B00809ERAM/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1509735613&sr=8-3&keywords=the+face+shop+rice+water+cleansing+oil&dpID=410zyPKCC3L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
This probably won't really answer your question, but I added in a daily sunscreen at the same time I added in the cleansing oil. I think the clinique face soap would have been fine at removing the sunscreen, but I know for a fact it was all gone after adding in the oil cleanser.
I also added in a lotion (this one: https://www.amazon.com/Hada-Labo-Hadalabo-Gokujun-Hyaluronic/dp/B00BSNBO9O/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1509735804&sr=1-1&keywords=hada+labo+gokujyun+hyaluronic+acid+lotion ) in the place where I was using the clinique toner.
I think making these changes def. helped my skin and I saw improvement.
Don't think I really answered your question....but I kept using the step 3 clinique lotion for a while too, after beginning my AB journey until I spent a few weeks with each new product. Good luck with everything! Let me know what works!! :)
Thanks so much for your comment! Question, why is it better as a serum? I read this Amazon product page for the hada labo lotion and there was a comment saying the mask helps it stay wetter and in contact with the skin longer, which helps the hyaluronic acid soak in. Is that misleading?
I'll definitely check out those other products! Would you recommend using more than one at a time? Thanks!
I bought this hadolabo from amazon back in February but never used it. I want to test it now but realise my packaging doesn't look like that but instead this.
According to amazon I definitely bought it from the first link however the packaging isn't the same. So what do i have? haha but more importantly would you trust it?
they're all pretty much the same thing-- it comes in a rectangular package, for reference, but I'll give you a few links I can certify to be legit from experience for you to pick from (or see the picture, and identify for yourself, in the future!)
Here's one on Amazon that I have personally purchased from, so I KNOW it's legitimate, and use it all the time-- if you click on the blue words '40 New' under 'other sellers on amazon', it's also avaliable with Prime shipping for $15.59.
I've purchased from this eBay seller many times, and they are speedy, established, and reliable. This one is good, too (note the 'over 1,494 sold!' sign lol)
Hope that helps! Sometimes the translations make it confusing-- I see a lot of questions on these threads asking about 'Merano CC' too-- that's just a common mistranslation stemming from Japanese pronunciation, FYI
what is the exact name of the cleanser? is it this one
http://www.amazon.com/Rohto-Hadalabo-Gokujyn-Hyaluronic-Cleansing/dp/B0036MDUEM
how do you like it?
I'm on the same boat as you, using Pocketderm! now that it is winter my skin got really dry with the perfect routine I had in the summer (hot weather) so I have had to intensely MOISTURIZE and change things up !
I already use this one a love it!

EDIT: also can you explain to me what the two bottles on the top right are? I don't think I have seen those! Thanks!
and how are you liking the sunscreen? :)
Assuming that he'll want something fairly inexpensive, and not too complicated, I'd recommend the Hada Labo Foaming Cleanser. It's a good pH for skin, doesn't smell like much, and pretty easy to find (I've linked you to an Amazon listing, but you can find it on ebay, and, depending on where you live, in Japan/Koreantown stores, 99 Ranch, etc.).
For the irritation, I'd recommend something with snail, the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Power Essence is inexpensive, unscented, etc.
Let me know if you'd like another recommendations! Hope this helps. :) Edit: also it just occurred to me that I assumed you live in the United States, and if not, these might be harder (or easier) to find.
If you're looking for brightening here's a mini list of ingredients you should look out for:
Vitamin C: A popular vitamin C serum is the C20 or C21.5, the formulation of it however is very unstable so if you don't want to deal with that try the Melano CC intensive anti-spot essence.
Niacinamide: For niacinamide products check out this spreadsheet and this megathread for recommendations.
AHAs: This is very tricky to use since it's an active that can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays. If you don't wear sunscreen on the days after you use it, it can actually be very bad for the skin. A few AHA products include Cosrx AHA 7 whitehead power liquid and Papa Recipe White Flower Clear Up 8% AHA Gel.
Licorice: It's Skin Power 10 Formula Effector LI and Snowise EX Brightening Serum
Arbutin: This ingredient seems to be more common in sheet masks but every day products with arbutin in it include Hada Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Lotion (Hada labo has an entire line of products called the "Shirojyun" line with arbutin in it) and LadyKin Vanpir Dark Repair Cream
Tranexamic acid: This ingredient isn't very popular but the brand Naruko seems to use it a lot including their Apple Seed and Tranexamic Acid Black Spots and Lines Defying Lotion and Apple Seed and Tranexamic Acid Black Spots and Lines Defying Moisturizer
Fermented soy: The brand SANA is very popular for their use of fermented soy in their products, some of their most popular products include their Soy Milk Astaxanthin Lifting Gel, Isoflavone Lotion and isoflavone wrinkle eye cream
Also don't forget sunscreen, you need protection from the UV rays if you're looking to brighten so remember to wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
I break out super easily and I have been using this and my skin has been reacting really well to it. I haven't broken out, my skin looks smoother and brighter..it's just really awesome. I would give it a go! :)
I use the cosrx snail 96 essence and I really like it. I find it hydrating and it feels comfortable on the skin, and it doesn't dry down sticky or tacky at all. I use it morning and night. My current sleep pack is the Too Cool for School Pumpkin Sleeping Pack. Some people say that it has a heavy scent, I don't smell it, but I did smoke for years, and I'm still getting my sense of smell back. I live in Omaha, so we have cold, dry winters as well, and I find sheet masking helps as well. I also use the Hada Labo HA lotion in the morning, and I find it very moisturizing. I hope I didn't throw too many products at you, but those are what works for me.
Right now I'm using a Shisedo sunscreen that works pretty well but I'm also a fan of Hada Labo UV Creamy and Biore's Watery Essence (just got their PA++++ version). Biore's leave a soother finish for makeup but the other two work fine too.
If you want a physical sunscreen I've tried Innisfree's Eco Safety Perfect Sunblock which I think is mostly physical (I think it has one chemical sunblock in it). I do like it but there is a slight scent so I don't know if that will irritate your skin or not. It does leave a very very minimal white cast and a ever so slightly tacky feeling. I think Innisfree has a 100% physical one but I'm not sure which it was (I think it was the waterproof one)
I'm looking for some cheap sheet masks that won't irritate my skin and that I can share with my younger (kid) sister. I've been using modeling masks every 2-3 weeks, but I'm trying to find something cheaper and less messy that I could use while studying.
I found some nice deals on Amazon, but I feel like they may be too good to be true and will do more dammage than not wearing a mask.

I'd sound like a broken record but I would also recommend [Melano CC] (https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%A1%E3%83%A9%E3%83%8ECC-%E8%96%AC%E7%94%A8%E3%81%97%E3%81%BF-%E9%9B%86%E4%B8%AD%E5%AF%BE%E7%AD%96-%E7%BE%8E%E5%AE%B9%E6%B6%B2-20mL%E3%80%90%E5%8C%BB%E8%96%AC%E9%83%A8%E5%A4%96%E5%93%81%E3%80%91/dp/B00ITAP8P0) especially if you're specifically looking for a vit C serum. It worked really well for brightening and fading my PIH.
Shark Sauce and Stratia Rewind are also very nice ones.

My face get's super oily about 2 hours after my morning routine. I don't wear any concealer/foundation. I will sometimes powder my face if I'm going anywhere other than work. Powder only helps for an hour or so then I'm right back to super oily. I use blotting paper, which lasts for an hour or so as well.
1st question: Is the blotting paper compromising any of these products? In other words, does blotting paper exclusively absorb just facial oil, or does it also remove any of the product?
2nd question: What can I do about all the oil? I'm super shiny! :(
Hi, I'm new to all of this. I'm going to purchase these items - probably tomorrow. I'm aware that I have to start with baby steps. I've read that I should start using only the moisturizer then slowly add the others so I see which product responds well with my skin and to make sure to patch test.
I'm just not sure how to put these in a AM and PM format, mind helping me out so when it's time to use all of this in a routine, I'm more confident in what I'm doing, please?

Hi All,
I have tons of products but I'm not sure if I'm using them correctly, in the right order, or using too many at one time. Also, some are not AB. Just waiting for them to run out. Also, I have the Mizon 8% AHA and Paula's Choice BHA. When should I be using these in my routine? How often? Please give me your opinions! I have dehydrated skin.

The best thing for you to do is take the three products ingredients and put them in an excel spreadsheet and highlight the duplicate values. When I did that, there were two ingredients that were in all three: Phenoxyethanol and Sodium Hyaluronate. You can compare at least to see if Sodium Hyaluronate is in any products that you use. This sunmilk from The Face Shop and also This Shiseido Mineral Water UV seem to be free of both of those.
i started an ab routine about 2 years ago but i still havent found the perfect routine - but im getting there.
you can check the routine megathreads for some people with full hg routines. all the best to you!
edit: here is an amazon link to the face wash because idk how to upload pictures.
OK! Currently after my two cosrx essences i use (hada labo skin plumping ha gel)[https://www.amazon.com/Hada-Labo-Tokyo-Plumping-Cream/dp/B00I4BUBN8/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480705227&sr=1-7&keywords=hada+labo] (the more western kind) but i cant really layer it that well, would it be a better idea to swap it out for (Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist)[https://www.amazon.com/Hada-Labo-Hadalabo-Gokujun-Hyaluronic/dp/B00BSNBO9O] ? My skin does better with lighter layers, however i am still mega dehydrated.
Yes, you do oil cleanser --> 2nd cleanser (it could be foaming, milk, micellar water, whatever works for you!) There are several oil cleansers that are popular around this sub. Off the top of my head:
I've added links to amazon for each product as a general price estimate, but you'd need to double check shipping, if there are better deals out there, etc.
How much are you paying for Mizon? That brand is pretty cheap in my experience. CosRX has a similar snail cream, but I'd expect both to be around the same price point.
If you want the cheapest of the cheap you could go for the snail repair gel in the pink tube. Mizon's black snail AIO tends to be a little cheaper than the regular AIO; it has kind of an old lady smell, but I find it to be extremely soothing and still use it because I haven't found another product that works quite as well for immediately calming irritated skin.
If you're willing to move away from snail products, I've heard good things about the Rosette Aqua Ceramide gel and the Hatomugi Skin Conditioning Gel.
I love that y'all are okay with asking about budget friendly options! I've been buying what are basically Dermal masks from stores here and there and then i search for cheap masks
AND BAM, I get this awesome deal, 9 dollars for 16 masks :O

Hey guys, I'm transitioning towards AB products and was thinking about getting some cleansers since I'm running out.
For my 1st cleanser, I plan to get the KOSE oil cleanser but I'm not sure between the KOSE SOFTYMO oil or liquid. Does anyone know if there's a distinct difference between these products?
For my 2nd cleanser, I'm planning to integrate CosRx Low PH Good Morning Cleanser into my routine. But I'm curious if I would be over exfoliating if I use this product before Stridex since the CosRx states that it contains a BHA. Or is it ok to use them both since I'll rinse off the CosRx cleanser before using Stridex?
Skin Type: combo | Country/Climate: USA West Coast |Top Skin Concern: Switching to AB products
AM: Rinse with warm water - Cerave Hydrating Cleanser - Cerave Moisturizing Lotion - Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence
PM: Cerave Hydrating Cleanser - Alternating between Stridex Red Box (2%BHA) and NipFab Glycolic Fix Pads (2.8% Glycolic Acid) x2 a week (Will probably stop using the NipFab Pads since they seem to break me out) - Cerave Moisturizing Lotion - Aquaphor
Hello! Welcome to AsianBeauty!
I would agree with /u/zhene about the Epiduo. It seems that Epiduo is both a retinoid and exfoliant, so we would include it in the "actives" part of our skincare routine lineup, which you can read more about here since AB involves a lot of layering of products anyway. For actives, it's best to wash your face, then wait about 10-15 minutes before applying, then wait for another ~20 minutes to ensure maximal effectiveness of the active, especially if it's pH dependent.
As for oily skin with big pores, it's important to first make sure that you don't actually just have dry skin, since dry skin often becomes oily in order to "compensate" for the lack of moisture. I'd tackle the problematic oiliness with a clay mask -- my personal favorite is the Innisfree Volcanic Clay Mask, used once or twice a week.
I think a safe bet for a good hydrating lotion for both oily and dry types regardless would be a light application of Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion. I don't currently have this in my rotation because I'm working my way through other products, but I used this all throughout high school and early college for my oily skin, and it was very hydrating and light. It's almost water-like, and never made me more oily. Some people even use this as a serum for masks!
I personally used this by itself instead of an essence before I started looking for products to address other problems, so if you're using an essence, I would just be light on the application if you feel like your skin is sufficiently hydrated.

I specifically want help with choosing a BHA and new moisturizer. Top Skin Concern:
moisturizer -- Mizon Snail Recovery Cream Do you think this will be a good replacement for Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion?
BHA -- BHA Blackhead Power Liquid I want to get a BHA for my sebaceous filaments, do you think this is a good one to try?
There is always the Snail Recovery Gel that is a huge hit among many users here and for a very good reason. I would recommend using it as a spot treatment because of how thick it is unless your face likes that sort of thing.
A thinner alternative is the COSRX Snail Essence which is cheaper than the Mizon Ampoule that I use. I actually have my father using the essence because of it's cost and thinness.
I would however say to stay away from the Mizon eye cream as it did absolutely nothing for me and my other friends who used it. But we also haven't had much luck with eye creams in general.
Skin type: dry/dehydrated (I think), pores, redness
Country: USA
Climate: hot and humid
Current routine: I just started so bear with me! My AM and PM are basically the same except I occasionally use AHAs or BHAs.
-splash face with water OR wash with Fresh soy face cleanser if I feel gross
-*in PM, I occasionally use stridex red box or pixi glow tonic and wait 20 min before continuing.
-hada labo gokugyn moist (just got this yesterday)
-missha geum sul first essence booster
-Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Essence
-Cosrx propolis light ampule (I honestly don't know what this is for lol)
-Cerave PM or FAB ultra repair cream
-aquaphor on lips and occasionally really dry spots.
My question: my skin tends to get red (like flush, not really get irritated) really easily. I want to even out my complexion and work on PIE. What can I do to help this?
I don't know much about the AHA+BHA one except for the fact that AHA+BHA needs to stay on your skin for a while for it to actually be effective, and with the cleanser it's not since you wash it off right away. Do try your best to get the one in the pump, though, it has hyaluronic acid which is good! I usually gets mines from Amazon, because the Japanese stores around me tends to mark things higher http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036MDUEM/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=M3BAOACN1RL9&coliid=I1GQEBLLE397QB
Hi guys! Really interested in incorporating hyaluronic acid into my skin care, and have been eyeing the Hada Labo Rohto Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist.
However, I see two listings for it on Amazon-- this one is a bit cheaper than this one, and also lists parabens further down on the ingredients list, so I'm def more interested in that first one. In the Q&As, the seller states that the packaging is different than in the older listing because it is the reformulation from summer 2017 (therefore it has new packaging). Is this true? It barely has any reviews so it seems a bit sketchy to me. I don't even see the supposed reformulation on the Hada Labo website.
Does anyone know if it's a fake or legit? Please and ty.
Snail-bee is a bit too much for me, I think. You can get the Snail recovery Gel for 2 for ~$12 so it's the one most often recommended.
It's definitely not moisturizing enough, even for me, but it works as a nice "sealer" at night time. Plus since it's so cheap I can SLATHER my face in it and not feel guilty.
Edit: Also!! Tracy at fanserviced-b has oily skin, so her reviews might help you more than others.
Thanks! I'll definitely try that. I haven't really had anything light to buffer with, but I do buffer with cetaphil on and off depending how my skin is doing. I've been wanting to try the Hado Labo lotion and now I have an excuse? Is the the one that everyone seems to love on here? http://www.amazon.com/Hada-Labo-Hadalabo-Gokujun-Hyaluronic/dp/B00BSNBO9O?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_mini_detail&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Not AB, but Avene Cicalfate is my dry skin HG product (I feel like I should be getting a commission from them...). Also really love Missha's Time Rev Essence mask - but it's pricey for a mask IMO.
I also totally second the hada labo gokuhyun lotion recommendation. Total game changer when paired with Avene Cicalfate.
I got these and liked them a lot - http://www.amazon.com/Airless-Pump-Bottle-Silver-Matte/dp/B00ED5HD08
I took my Beauty of Joseon cream with my on a trip in one of these and it worked really well! If you don't put a lot of product in you have to pump a lot to move it to the top, but other than that they're perfect.
Japanese bath salts?
Something like this, they come in individual packets so would be easy to split up:

I have a box of those and the Tabino Yado ones at home, I like both brands. I just clicked the first ones I saw come up with a Prime tag, the box I have says they're made in China and the Tabino Yado ones are Japanese, just in case that matters.
