Depends. I tried using the shuttle once and they refused to take me since I didn't have a "dual-chambered" tube, which is bullshit. It was just their way of forcing you to rent one of their tubes if you want to ride with them. Taking 2 cars is definitely the way to go, leaving one at the exit point (Parking costs $3). If you're going to go more than once over the summer, just invest in the tube a life jacket. These are the tubes everyone buys, and buying it costs the same as renting it once. It won't help you for tomorrow, but life jackets are currently $12 on Amazon. So once you make the initial investment, it's free to go as much as you want after that.
I use a different route than what was suggested above: Start at Cochran island, 5450 Interstate N Pkwy Sandy Springs, GA 30328 and end at Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area: Paces Mill
3444 Cobb Pkwy Atlanta, GA 30339. I've done a lot of tubing and this is the best route, and it's very popular. It takes 3 hours. I've never heard of being able to rent only the life jackets, but it may be possible.
I go pretty often, so let me know if you have any other questions. Oh, and here's where you check if it's safe to go, but this is only an issue if it's been raining during the week.
EDIT: I just saw an even better deal for life jackets
We have 4 of these and 2 friends also got them without issues.
G1W Original*
plus
Mount for Rearview Mirror
*the reason I put the asterisk is due to it actually being an original one. I've ordered from sites like Aliexpress and their original was not actually one. The G1W is a pretty great budget dashcam and the quality is overall great when you are buying the original. Hope this helps!
>much cheaper than Claratin, Allegra, or other newer types
These can be bought as generics on Amazon for super cheap. This generic Zyrtec is 4 cents a pill.
Generic Allegra is quite a bit more expensive but not too terrible.
Generic Claritin is also super cheap.
The generic Zyrtec and Claritin are actually cheaper than what they sell thh Wal-Finate for (which comes out to a little over 10 cents a pill -- and they last all day instead of 4 hours).
I still have over half of my generic Zyrtec bottle from last year linked above.
For that matter, you can also get chlorpheniramine (what Wal-Finate is) on Amazon for much cheaper too. The Walgreen's website has their Wal-Finate listed at $7 for a 50 count of 4mg tablets. Amazon has $12 for a 1000 count of 4mg tablets.
You're welcome :)
I'm pretty sure this is it. I like how I can hide it behind my mirror. The quality is decent, and it has a battery that allows the camera to continue to record for a certain amount of time after the engine is shut off.
Most of the time I forget it's there until something fun happens on the road. Have had it for over a year and the peace of mind is worth way more than the cost of the camera.
Edit: Looks like for $15 more you can get one of a similar format that is more favorably reviewed. Rexing.
It's a GW1 that I purchased from Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FONBG1A/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1416583742&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX200_QL40
The day time video quality is great but the night time quality is only ok. It works great for a $70 dash cam though.
It takes up to a 32 GB micro sd. Make sure you get a class 4 or 6 card or you might run into issues.
There is no such thing as free parking. It cost money to build and maintain parking spaces, and that cost typically gets past on through the resident via either rent or purchase price. You pay for the premium weather you want to or not, but by requiring parking by law, you force others to pay for the premium as well.
If you're interested, I would recommend The High Cost of Free Parking by Donald Shoup
I got one that I wouldn't really recommend but it was on woot for $80. It's a top dawg (lol) with a front and back camera, the back is on a 30 foot line. The video quality is meh, I can only make out plates when I'm pretty close to them. The one that reddit seems to like is the G1W though: http://www.amazon.com/Original-1920x1080-G1W-Dashboard-Detection/dp/B00FONBG1A/
You can get something like a security bar to very cheaply upgrade your security. Only works when you're there (obv) but it will make it very very hard for anyone to enter your house. I highly recommend this option or something like Master Lock 265DCCSEN Dual-Function Security Bar https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002YUX8I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DEbTzb0ZJWCG5
Here are some links for the product in the above comment for different countries:

There are some with a wedge shape that fits up toward the top of the windshield. Really hard to spot without looking for it if your windshield has those black dots are darker area up there.
I use a Viofo A119 from SpyTec. Has the wedge shape and some great features for $99 with GPS mount (would recommend getting this for better wiring direction and easier removal if need be) and $89 for regular mount.
Two reviews for ya.
I just did a ton of research on which TV antenna would work best in the north/east sides of Atlanta. My $20 Target version wasn't cutting it and I wanted something a little bit better.
This one comes out on top. Apparently you should stay away from amplified antenna if it's kept in doors, as the amplification can actually keep it from getting more channels. Amplification is better for outdoor antenna and a money-making gimmick for indoors. With this Mohu one, I jumped to getting almost 90 channels from the 50 or so I was poorly getting with my cheapie one.
Don't buy a shitty walmart float. Just buy a good Intex tube, they are $18:
http://www.amazon.com/Intex-58825E-River-Run-I/dp/B000PEOMC8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376583590&sr=8-1&keywords=intex+river+run
Much better quality, two cup holders, a headrest, a good valve, thicker plastic. Cheaper to buy this than to pay for one tube rental.
The video actually doesn't do the quality justice since its so heavily compressed! But if you're ever in the market for a dashcam, be sure to consider it :) A119
This one! There are a bunch of less expensive wake-up lights, but I like that this one's colors mimic an actual sunrise (and sunset, too - there's a "go to sleep" mode that's pretty neat), rather than just going from soft light, to normal light, to BRIGHT-ASS LIGHT.
Yep. http://amzn.com/B00TXR2P40
My only complaint is that the GPS won't overlay on the video. The GPS is working (it will show my speed on the real time display) but not on the recording. It's just as well though, I don't think I want it shown on the recording. I'd just like to know that I could if I so chose.
As others have pointed out, there are even cheaper cameras than this one out there that work well also.
I knew Hannah about 8 years ago. She's a very cool person. Her new book on this topic is getting great reviews, if anyone wants more details: https://www.amazon.com/Flight-Path-beneath-Busiest-Airport/dp/1938235282
A few months ago I got rid of my residential service and replaced it with an Internet only business service and I'm getting a little over 100 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up.
Even if you don't want to do that make sure you have a decent cable modem. The SB6121 is DOCSIS 3. You can check you own signal levels and logs easily. It gives you ammo when calling tech support. If you see T3 and T4 timeouts in your log, a tech should come out and check the cables.
http://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-Motorola-SB6121-SURFboard-DOCSIS/dp/B004XC6GJ0
This book is awesome. It's local hikes not overnight trips. It provides directions by public transport where possible. You'd be surprised how many forests there are right in the city.
I'm in downtown so I'm really really close but I have this one and the mini version. I'm only using the big one now but the mini worked fine for a couple of weeks. I really don't know why I bought both of them but I did so here we are. I also don't know why I bought these over the Mohu Leaf which seems to be the big name brand version of these things.
The only thing I don't really like about them is the cables. They're 15 feet long and don't detach but mine is duct taped to the back of my tv so I only need like 3 feet of cable.
You might want to consider running through the tvfool signal analysis thing. Maybe /r/cordcutters could make recommendations based on that, too.
I've had this one for a little over a year now and it's been great. I hardwired it to a switched fuse so it turns on and off with the car, and the two sided tape has made sure it stays put on the windshield. It was small enough that I was able to mount it in front of my rear view mirror, so most of the time I forget it's even there.
A Black Box G1W + 32 GB memory card. It's pretty affordable and has ok quality.
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Box-Original-Dashboard-Dash/dp/B00FONBG1A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412867811&sr=8-1&keywords=G1W
I have the A119 which is has been easy to use and works great. I also highly recommend it since it's only maybe $20 more than A118 but still less than $100. https://smile.amazon.com/SpyTec-Camera-GPS-Logger-Recording/dp/B01HN0HBFG/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1496860422&sr=1-3&keywords=a119
This happened a few days ago. I've had the Black Box G1W since around 2014 and it works pretty well. Only issue I've come across is that the date and time reset randomly.
White Flight is a great book, and explains a lot about how we got to where we are today (sprawl).

I highly recommended a read on this book by Ryan Gravel the visionary of the beltline. https://www.amazon.com/Where-Want-Live-Reclaiming-Infrastructure/dp/1250078253
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FONBG1A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's super cheap right now too, 7$ cheaper than I paid with prime shipping
Also, with Comcast you can save a small sum by purchasing your own modem.
Like New from Amazon Warehouse for $60
> They live and act like they are from small communities when in fact, the hub one of the largest and most exciting cities in the country is 40 minutes away. Yet they refuse to associate with it and are frankly afraid of it.
Relevant read.
I got this book for Christmas. Though the book is more about the cities that disappeared when the airport expanded, it does touch on the efficiency of Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Good read.
It's because we try to push too much free parking in this city. You can write a book about it: https://www.amazon.com/High-Cost-Free-Parking-Updated/dp/193236496X
This article can give you an overview: https://www.vox.com/videos/2017/7/19/15993936/high-cost-of-free-parking

Minor correction: the book's title is The High Cost of Free Parking.

Flight Path by Hannah Palmer. A really good read. The author intertwined the story of her family and upbringing in the shadow of the airport and all of its expansions over the years
Amazon
Read Ryan Gravel's (the Beltline guy) book at the beach over the weekend: https://www.amazon.com/Where-Want-Live-Reclaiming-Infrastructure/dp/1250078253.
Very Atlanta/Beltline specific. Highly recommend if you want to learn about the historical context of the birth of Beltline and the long-term goals of the project
Avoid screens for an hour before bed. I started that and it has been a huge help. Read a book (preferably dry/boring) or if you must use a screen install something like F.Lux to adjust the color temperature.
Oh also check out a light alarm clock. It's life changing if you have to get up before dawn.
Anyone interested in learning more about Atlanta's interior neighborhoods (including Inman) should pick up a copy of "White Flight".

Use tvfool.com or antennaweb.org to find out the general direction of the towers from your location. The major ones are all roughly Midtown. You want to locate (and point) the antenna with as unobstructed a view of the towers as possible.
Having the antenna behind the TV is nice for aesthetics but it isn't helping your signal. First try moving it, if you can. If you have a convenient window facing the towers, then you can try this antenna.
I got mine off Amazon, it was a G1W. It's now $54, this link is exactly what I ordered last February. It's not the nicest dash cam, but I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever.

The major networks broadcast over-the-air as well as through cable. If you dont have cable but want to watch the shows, you would need an HD antenna attached to your television or TV tuner card in your PC. There is no monthly fee or cost beyond the antenna unless you want to add a DVR of your own.
What Aeroe does is moves the location of the antenna to their own data center and permits you to stream that same content over the interwebs to you PC or laptop. They justify the monthly expense by offering DVR service and "leasing" you the antenna.
Check goodwill. I know, I know. It sounds dumb and gross. But I found a Cuisinart DCC-1200 at my local goodwill yesterday for $8.98. I cleaned it with the vinegar method mentioned in the other comment, and it works like a champ.
There is a cheaper version if you don't want to spend $100 on an alarm clock: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00F0W1RIW/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3Q6DA5OFYQ1WS&colid=17X88L7Z1IRW2
