Srs, I have a personal alarm on my keys that is loud AF. Recently a man starting harassing me for money in a parking lot, followed me to my car and banged on my window. I started yelling and honking my car horn and he backed off. You can get personal alarms on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Personal-Emergency-Self-Defense-Security-Keychain/dp/B076FVX6S1

Hey, since I was the one talking about the YSL thing I want to clarify a few things:

  • It's not a known thing in the US but in France and Morocco it's an open secret. As in any pedophilia case involving higher ups, it's near impossible to find tangible proofs, but people talk. The news broke after Pierre Bergé, YSL ex husband, died and their former lover/employee published a book where he mentions the time he saw someone at their property get a blow job from an underaged boy, and YSL brushed it off as no big deal when said employee told him. The author doesn't give names, but he gives a lot of hints that Bergé was basically a sick fuck.

  • Here are some highly respected sources from the french press that talk about the book:

    https://blogs.mediapart.fr/jean63/blog/081117/et-pierre-berge-personne-nest-au-courant-revelations-sur-un-scandale-etouffe

  • Pierre Bergé was a confortable misogynist, like that time he said "rent your womb for a baby or rent your hands in a factory, what's the difference?" I don't know, something about him putting babies and factories in the same sentence creeps the hell outta me. Link (in french again, sorry): https://www.marieclaire.fr/,pierre-berge-pma-gpa-louer-son-ventre,20123,680919.asp

  • The graphic novel by YSL is a real thing. If you don't wanna check it on google pics, just read the reviews: https://www.amazon.fr/Vilaine-Lulu-Yves-saint-laurent/dp/2732441678
There's a disclaimer in it that it's based on true events. Maybe he was joking, maybe he was not.

  • As I said I am Moroccan and I know more about it, I'm a journalist with an interest in children's rights. After the 2004 tsunami, Morocco surpassed Thailand in child prostitution and replaced it as a sexual tourism destination. There's a documentary on Youtube about child prostitution in Marrakech (where YSL used to live) and you can see a father following a tourist and asking him how much he wants to pay and how old does he wants the kid to be (I'll link it if needed). Every now and then, someone gets caught or there's a known french politician mentioned, he threatens to sue for diffamation and everyone shuts up. But it's always the same goddamn names.

  • I've explained my personal reasons to why I boycott this specific brand. I don't urge anyone to do the same. But knowing that a kid (at least one) was harmed like this and it was brushed off as not a big deal, is one of the very few things that keep awake at night. I know he's dead but I don't want to see his name in my house, it's a visceral thing. I also don't encourage anyone to take any decisions without any kind of proof, boycotting it is my personal choice based on my values and what I know.
