It was probably a printer error, did you get this copy for free or via some non-retail channel?

I know one of the authors and he is the main dev behind bonescript, the TI project leader, and co-founder of the BeagleBone Foundation. I would definitely trust this book, it should be fairly comprehensive.

However I would also highly recommend Derek Molloy's Book.

He provides a lot of additional content through his youtube channel and website.

SIM&NAT Male DC 2.1mm x 5.5mm Wire Power Pigtails Adapter Barrel Plug Socket Cables for CCTV Security Camera, DVR, Car Rearview Monitor System Video, LED Strip Light, Surveillance (20 inch / 50 cm) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GPL8MVG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_eeHMzbZ5K8BHP I would use a kit like these and a terminal block to break out the 5v lines. After that just make sure you get the red lines to positive and you should be good to go!

OP. go here: http://learn.adafruit.com/ssh-to-beaglebone-black-over-usb/installing-drivers-windows

  1. Connect via USB after installing the adhoc networking drivers
  2. Change your wireless subnet to include 192.168.7.*** (config your router to do this--starting IP = 192.168.7.100 subnet mask : 255.255.255.0)
  3. Open up your terminal (in mac/linux, or putty in windows) and ssh to

    192.168.7.2

    User: root
    password: <blank>

    (no password!)

If you are right about the changes you made you can just rename the file (unless you overwrote the conf file and it's not just being created from the factory); otherwise you should still be able to use this method to restore any files necessary (http://forum.kncminer.com/forum/main-category/main-forum/8941-ugent-who-can-extract-the-emmc-content-from-your-jupiter-for-me/page2)

    edit: it looks like they nerfed your board;
get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Gino-Straight-Solder-Female-Connector/dp/B0094DXENY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382424200&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+solder (or harvest a usb connector from something else)

If you have a serial cable like this, you could watch debug info as you boot, to really see what is going on.

Are you holding down the boot button while the board powers on? I've definitely seen that if something strange has happened to emmc, the board won't try to boot off the SD card any more unless the button is held.

I am using these:

Big fan of this unit. Have four of them now, 3 on Pi's and one on a BBB.

General motion. I want to stream live video from outside my house. I have a http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-94N-00001-LifeCam-NX-6000-Webcam/dp/B000GOUE7Y which I am trying to work with. I haven't seen the CMUCam5 which looks promising (amazon doesn't say its mp resolution) but I don't want to use any new equipment right now and this will also need a moisture-protective case.

Yea, that's why I'm using a powered USB hub. It has an external 5V/2A power supply. This is the one I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/Protronix-Port-USB-Power-Adapter/dp/B00REX6DRK/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469733902&sr=1-6&keywords=powered+usb+hub

But it seems the problem is the fact that the power supply is non-linear, thus causing interference in the signal. The screen is powered and works just fine, but the touch functionality doesn't. Removing power from the USB hub causes the screen to stop displaying, but allows the wireless mouse to function.

EDIT: Also, it seems that data is also sent through the "power" connection. Plugging the "power" connection into an external power supply and the "touch" connection into the BBB still causes the screen to function, but not the touch functionality.
