So you say duel band so it sounds like you are looking for a gateway. This is a modem router combo. You have a few options. If you buy of Amazon you could get this one. It's 200 but is a 3.0 modem with a duel band ac wireless router built in. Supports 24 downstream channels and 8 up. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZUPOF7Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ZzWnzbRC6T09V

If you are looking to save some money you could get this one, it's 100 and supports 8 down and 4 up. This would work with the 150 Meg tier but I recommend getting the higher channel one to future proof yourself. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF0JAYE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_PCWnzbFRR986G

Cox in my area does sell this one below. They charge around 170 or so for it( not sure don't quote me). On Amazon it's 180. It supports 32 down and 8 up. If you buy from Cox it has a 2 year warranty and they will come swap it out if it goes bad. It says on Amazon Arris gives it a 2 year warranty also but you would have to ship it to them I assume.

Stand alone modems are different because you need a router to plug into it to get wifi. If you are interested in a 3.1 modem prepare to spend around 200 for it. They don't make docsis 3.1 gateways yet that I know of. Cox doesn't even use docsis 3.1 yet in any market but will be kicking it on within a year or so in select areas. The docsis 3.1 modems that you can buy today are backwards compatible with 3.0 and support 32 down and 8 up. I know I talk a lot about the channels down and up. This is how many different cable channels the modem can connect to at once. More is better because If one gets congested it reroutes packets down another that isn't. This helps maintain speed even during peak hours and also how they deliver the faster speeds.

Cox also sells Arris stand-alone docsis 3.1 modems for 179.99 and it comes with a 1 year warranty through Cox. It has 2 Ethernet ports on the back. Don't be wierded out by that it's for multi gigabit services in the future and only one will work today.

If you have any other questions let me know and I will try to answer the best I can.

How tech savy are you?

But consider this - $8/mo for 12 months is 96.

A good reliable DOCSIS 3.1 modem (only modem, not router) is $170 on amazon today. That's less than 2 years and modems tend to live a long time unless you have lots of lightening.

Now lets add a router - we'll get fancy and do EdgeRouter & Unifi Wifi Access Point.

Edgerouter is $60, and a UniFi AP that will cover MOST households better than a Linksys is 100.

So you spent $330 up front for a REALLY good system. If it lasts you 4.78 years you broke even. Mine has lasted me 2 years already thru mulitple storms in the gulf coast. Well, teh modem isn't that old b/c I had a non gigabit for a while as we didn't have that option.

DO NOT get a router/modem combo. There are several posts on this sub that blame combo devices for slow speeds and some even say Cox will hinder your device settings and speeds if you have a router/modem combo. Can’t prove that though. Also, a buddy of mine used to be a tech for Cox, and he said that router/modem combos are more prone to having issues and are historically slower than having a good modem and a good router separate.

Edit: This is my router: TP-Link AC1750 Smart WiFi Router... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079JD7F7G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And this is my modem: NETGEAR Gigabit Cable Modem... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ND1PQMS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I also use these Ethernet cords: Ethernet Cable, Vandesail CAT7 LA... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PPQXZ0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I pay for 150mbps speeds from Cox, and with this set up I’m consistently getting around 175mbps

Edit 2: it may just be me, but I don’t trust Cox, especially when it comes to hardware they provide. I’d rather go with something that I purchased myself, and that I have complete control over as far as settings, etc.

Well call Cox and see if they service your address or visit the URL below.

If they service your area you'll need to either rent or buy a gateway. I highly recommend you buy one. It's more expensive upfront but it's not a perpetual cost over time.

What are your signal levels?

You may need a bidirectional signal amplifier installed at the service entrance. The Arris BDA-42-1-AR-R is an example of this type of device.

Cable modems hang onto the MAC address of the last connected device. They need to be rebooted every time you connect something different to it.

I'd also suggest getting returning the modem rental and just buy a cable modem.. I had nothing but issues with those rental modems that Cox uses. My Netgear CM700 has been solid haven't had to reboot it in probably 2 months!

Cox charges you $6.99/month for rental so after a little over a year the purchase would pay for itself.
