There aren't any solid solutions that will be both device agnostic and inexpensive, unfortunately. If you end up sticking with the X360, my favorite has been the XBox 360 Wireless Headset. Alternatively I had an extra set of Plantronics M Series earloop and eartips that I stuck onto the 'set and I find them to be much more comfortable / better at remaining in place. In all, with the optional kit, can run you from $25-$40 (sometimes you'll find a dirt cheap sale on the communicators somewhere, especially for like the MW3 edition). Personally I wouldn't go any higher in cost for an X360 solution, unless you go full-blown with an Astro Mixamp Pro and a favorite, high quality headset (expect to spend anywhere from $200-$500 altogether, or higher if you go really nuts).
A solid, dollar for dollar, PC / PS4 solution would be to get the SteelSeries v2 paired with an adapter like this ($60-$80 solution, depending). The DS4 has a 3.5mm jack that will support in-game sound as well as chat. The downside to it is it's a little underpowered. A lot of people don't have issues with it, but I'm rather picky. Thankfully the SteelSeries v2 only has a 32 Ohm impedance and an accompanying low-ish sensitivity level. So they don't take much to drive, but still -- to me the sounds for anything on the DS4 are a little muddy. To forego it, you would need to spend a little more money. Next step up, which works great for the PS4, would be the Sony Wireless Gold for around $80, but while it's a great solution for the PS4 I find it subpar on the PC. To get better sound out of the PS4 you would have to go the Astro Mixamp Pro route.
For PS4 you could also go the opposite direction in pricing and get the $12 PS Vita Earbuds and just shove those in the DS4 jack. While still an inline mic (will be picking up a lot of ambient noise) these are far better than what you can get out of the packaged earbud / mic with the PS4. If your soundcard doesn't support mic input via the headphone jack and only has the separate 3.5mm, can always use another adapter that goes in the reverse. Or just simply save up for a different headset for PC.
Sorry if this isn't the sort of question intended for this thread, but I've searched and searched and haven't been able to find an answer.
My friend and I own the original Destiny game as well as the first two expansions. We haven't played for months, but are interested in coming back now to check out the new content in The Taken King. It looks like the cheapest way of acquiring TKK would be to buy the physical legendary edition (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZJ20YQO/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza) which is $35, but this has a lot of duplicate content for us. I'm just wondering if there are any issues upgrading to TKK going this route. Will all of our save data (characters, weapons, etc.) remain intact if we essentially re-buy everything that came before TKK?
It seems crazy that the standalone digital upgrade for TKK is $40 and this entire legendary package is only $35, but if this is viable path to getting the expansion, then we'll happily save the $5.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Haha, I feel you-- I do miss the days when a console was a console and you didn't have to worry about customizing it to improve performance.
Here's the drive and the external enclosure I'm using, total $59.98:
Original link (see edit below; might not want to get this one): https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-240GB-Solid-State-SDSSDA-240G-G26/dp/B01F9G43WU/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537193290&sr=1-6&keywords=250gb+ssd
Better link (Samsung, $8 more): https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-250GB-Internal-MZ-76E250B-AM/dp/B07864WMK8/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537193972&sr=1-3&keywords=250gb+ssd
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-External-Enclosure-Adapter-Housing/dp/B06XWRRMYX/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1537193304&sr=8-4&keywords=external+enclosure+2.5
There are better SSD drives that that one, but the PS4 OS is not optimized for SSD so other people's tests show the better drives aren't any faster than lower-end drives. If you're buying one for a PC, then you might want to spring for a Samsung or something, but it's not necessary on PS4.
Edit: Ah, wait, that's not the exact same drive I'm using. Mine is listed as 250GB. This one is listed as 240GB. I think the minimum PS4 can use externally is 250GB. I know there's funny business in hard drive capacities due to the next step of bytes being 1024, not an even 1000, but I don't know if it would make this 240GB not meet PS4's "250" requirement or not. Might want to go with something explicitly 250GB to be safe.
Edit 2: Wow, Amazon actually has the Samsung brand 250GB for only $57 on sale today. I added that link if anyone's interested.
So that... that is something I do not know in relation specific to Destiny. I was providing that comment as a general statement. But I did go look at the Amazon listing just now and here's what I'm seeing.
Judging by that, I think it's safe to assume that the PC version will ship with a digital code inside a box. If it really matters to you, definitely don't go just on speculation, though. Try to get confirmation on that from Amazon directly, which may involve waiting closer to release since PC details in particular are sparse at this time.
You arent buying the correct collection. It should be around 60$ and include ALL dlcs. see here
The game is super fun to play with people and so if you are playing alone you will find it hard to stay up to date with the highest level stuff without using 3rd party lfg programs. It is heavily reliant on guns rather than abilities but at thwe same time the game feels very different depending on which class/subclass of abilities you are using. If you can find a friend or two to play it with i highly recommend it
PC Standard Edition on Amazon for $25.99
I'm a ubisoft kinda guy. They're not perfect, far from it actually... but they have proven themselves true to their word in terms of long term support in my two favorite games(Rainbow Six Siege and Rocksmith 2014). I think this blog post and seemingly sincere response is atleast worth 26 bucks to see what all the hubbub is about... plus I enjoyed the beta
Thanks for posting this!!! I love playing D2, but what I hate most is getting into the game.... getting to the tower.... getting to a match/strike/planet... Even going from the main part of the tower to the place where Ikora and Drifter are takes some real long *ss loading times, while other guardians pass me by. (I have a standard version of the Xbox One and a wired connection)

Some questions, because I'm a noob:
Thanks for any help!
If you can afford like $75 do yourself a favor and buy an external ssd. It’s easy to install and it will halve or better all your load times. Menu opening is almost instant. It’s the best $75 I’ve spent. It makes every game better.
Edit - $90 atm. This is the one I have.
If you need recommendations, These are the exact ones I purchased, but basically just look for good price and decent ratings on amazon. Make sure to get a good usb 3.0 enclosure too, if you didn’t know that already, ssd’s won’t come with a way to connect to USB already in the box.
enclosure
ssd
Edit: looks like I was off by $3. The total is about $43 (before tax, prime shipping).
The Grimoire is the story of the world of Destiny pre game. It’s actually really cool to read if he’s into books. There’s a few you tubers that’ve carved a career out of reading the Grimoire in videos. If you know he watches creators like MyNameIsByf or MyelinGames then this should be a good choice :)
Grimoire vol 1
Or if he likes playing cards there’s these too
Destiny playing cards
Yeah that's pretty much it. Just make sure it's USB 3.0.
For reference I bought this SSD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071KGRXRG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And put it into this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWRRMYX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Note: You can just get an external SSD and be good. I only went the route I did cause it was cheap for a lot of storage. Still works like a champ.
I frequently use the popular list on solar system map lower left corner with free trial version, but if it randomly selects a map on "Siva" Crisis Heroic strike or Weekly Story Playlist that I don't have access to it aborts mission and sends me back to orbit. If you don't have the Rise of Iron, you're missing a lot, since people do the Siva Crisis Heroic Strike (and Crucible), list to get Legendary marks five times and one Treasure of the Ages Chest (dismantle for Silver dust) weekly.

https://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Collection-Xbox-One-Standard/dp/B01K63R7EW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526657888&sr=8-1&keywords=destiny%2Brise%2Bof%2Biron%2Bcollection&th=1
If you want to increase your light level first (although most people in strike can help you through), to maximize your time to get the most loot, have all three characters spend 10 minutes a day to do one Public Event successfully completed gold level (and /or daily crucible) for rewards and Legendary marks to buy gear. Most public events timers aren't synchronized, but if you go to Moon - upon landing at Archers Line there's always event and people to help. http://destinypublicevents.com/
The key to maximize your light level decrypting, is to rotate decryption of the type of engrams, so all gear you're wearing is highest possible level. Don't bother spending glimmer or materials on rare blue gear that will be discarded quickly for higher level new replacements, since even a couple points is double digits more damage (and wait to infuse legendary purple and exotic gear). https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/4i3511/could_somebody_please_tell_me_what_the_hell_tier/
Happy hunting Guardian.
Get these, seriously:
http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Gold-Wireless-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00HVBPRUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421363508&sr=8-1&keywords=playstation+gold+headset
Only $100 at the moment, 4.5 stars out of 5 stars from 1,347 customers at the time of this post.
It is wireless, has really good sound quality, 7.1 surround sound, good bass response. Not to mention there is the playstation headset app you can download after you purchase these, the app lets you download a sound preset into your headphones specifically tuned for Destiny. And you can do this for the most popular games on PS4.
I have these and absolutely love them, sound quality is great and my GF never complains as I have all the audio (chat and game audio) coming into the headphones instead of the external speakers.
This isn't really an issue, but more a tip if you get them, every now and then you might some sound issues or your buddies you're playing might say hey your mic keeps cutting out etc. Turn off the headset and unplug the little wireless usb receiver for the headset, plug it back in and turn the headphones back on and you're good to go.
It's more difficult to prove that I don't have something than proving I do. But if you look at the amazon comments for Rise of Iron (here: https://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Rise-Iron-Pre-Load-Digital/dp/B01GU89H6I#customerReviews ), you'll see that other people are in the same boat as me.
But here's the weird part: We DID get the Iron Gjallarhorn (I didn't make this clear in my post), but we DIDN'T get the Iron Gjallarwing! Only half of the preorder bonus, weird huh?
I really appreciate your generosity with giving out a code. But give it a day or two, Amazon might fix what they have done wrong to us. If nothing happens soon, I'll get back to you (Yes I am on PS4, PSN name is Zephyr-Sloth)!
i just plugged in my iphone ear buds that came with the phone and my friends say it sounds great. BUT if i WAS in the market for a PS4 headset I would get the Sony Gold Wireless headset, TONS of outstanding reviews + the PS4 has an app that lets you set sound profiles tailored to the game you are playing! the PS4 has an app that lets you
I live in the USA so idk how much this helps you, but here's a link to the one I purchased off Amazon.
It's a direct link from my previous orders "buy it again" option so I can 100% verify it's a solid link, mine was shipped in a timely manner and arrived in perfect condition.

Again though, idk if you living in Italy will effect its availability, but hey I tried lol
SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 250GB 2.5... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Case (comes with cable): UGREEN External Hard Drive... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWRRMYX?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Case lights up when powered.
I plugged mine into the usb slot in the back of my PS4 Pro (I think normal has one too). Works like a charm. Game loads before the primary theme finishes, and in-game menus and planets/zones load substantially quicker (but not instantly, still some wait).
Worth the ~$60 when you think of the cumulative hours saved on even just sifting through menus.
NOTE: I have noticed a bug that crops up now from loading “warp” too quickly. The “takeoff” animation will run without my ship following (just camera), causing the game to take a few beats on a black screen before loading the “warp” part of the load screen. It’s not a big deal, just wait a few moments and everything goes back to being its normal, speedy self :)
For VoG/Crota, not really. Especially if you grab a sherpa run, where someone explains all the mechanics for you.
Getting into KF, though, a mic is pretty necessary as a lot of communication is needed from all members.
I own the Playstation Headset which are falling apart but I refuse to get rid of. Save up and buy a pair. I'm sure the newer "gold" model are good as well, I just have no personal experience with them.
Amazon has a wonderful case-thing with cables, and Samsung sells a nice compact 2.5" SSD that can go as low as 250GB, and as high as 4TB. I bought the 250GB one with the case-thing and only paid about $72 total. Both can be bought through Amazon, and are both under Prime shipping if you have it, so your SSD will be here and ready in no time at all. I highly recommend it if you are a heavy Destiny player.

This seems pretty cool, don't really need it for the strategy as much as it will be a nice collectible with some goodies inside. I know you can get every answer online now, but it's something about being a little old-school with this guide. It's more of a extra perk then a benefit.
I was also wondering does anyone know much about the The Art of Destiny it's on Amazon for $32.21 and isn't scheduled for delivery until December 16th. Thoughts?
There is a Collector's edition strategy guide that I'm sure has some cool art/screens plus a ton of info (obviously). Amazon has it cheaper than Gamestop.

Yes, you want an internal drive, which you can plug in externally. To be able to connect it via USB, you need something like this.
You could also use it internally without the enclosure though.
If you wanna use it internally I'd recommend getting the 500GB for 39 bucks more (if you play more than just 3 games [if not, 250GB is perfectly fine, especially when using it externally as you can just move your games between your HDD and SSD whenever you want]).
Looks like Amazon may send you a code on the 18th (the earliest pre-load date). US Amazon PS4 Listing

Bungie store is probably your best shot, but I did see that Insert Coin Clothing has started a Destiny clothing line. Personally, I am looking at getting the Art of Destiny book because Bungie has made such a beautiful game and I never really have the time to take it all in.

Honestly, getting a Pro and using it on a 1080p TV isn't bad. It's what I did and I'm rocking a 9 year old 50" 1080p Plasma TV still. Most games will do super sampling as long as the developers have patched the game to use the extra power from the Pro.
The other commonly overlooked feature is the ability to stream in 1080p and 1080p 60fps directly from the PS4 Pro. This is nice to have if you're someone who is a casual streamer or want to capture some video for friends or personal projects. Especially if you're not going to invest in a capture card and PC to do all the fancy streaming work.
Also, upgrading the HDD is an option but a 2TB SSD is expensive at around $600-700. Even a 1TB SSD is still $300+. I opted for a 2TB SSHD (currently $99), found here: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireCuda-2-5-Inch-Notebooks-ST2000LX001/dp/B01M1NHCZT/ in addition to upgrading to the PS4 Pro. I already had a 1TB SSHD in my regular PS4, and I figured why not upgrade to 2TB once I got my Pro.
This is the one I used. Works like a charm.
Load times are consistently and considerably better than before when I didn’t have a ssd. I highly recommend it to all who don’t have a Xbox One X already.
Buy this from Amazon:

There's a way to do it in the PSN Store, but I don't remember where. Using Amazon has the advantage someone else can buy the code for you as a gift.
Okay so, I'm in the UK, play on PS4.
This: http://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Expansion-Pass-Digital-Code/dp/B00LLIQWKC
Is 20 quid. Buying it in the UK is 35 quid. (Which is 56 dollars.)
Does anyone know, if I buy the US digital code, whether it'll work on my UK PS4?
Is anyone willing to try?
You can definitely buy digital stuff across the puddle, I've done so with Steam game keys before. Don't know if PS4 is as.. flexible.
They are compatible. XBOX just has the external USB connectors supporting USB 3. I am not sure if PS4 external USB is USB 3.

Just looked it up, looks like any USB 3.0 enclosure will work:

Not sure about that model of SSD, never used one of those, I bought this:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B072R78B6Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the one I went with. Load Times are dramatically improved. I play with some EU guys (Midwest US here) I load into every planet, event, mission, strike a good minute or two before they do. I used to be able to get up and make a drink while loading into the tower before landing. Not anymore
depends what you mean by "better"
internal would probably be more effective, however it is much harder to install and you could seriously screw something up in your console if you install it improperly
external is much easier to install and setup, while still giving you a massive boost in speeds
here is what I bought, it is external.. you plug the ssd into the case and plug the case into console, simple as that

I was about to buy one, but it cost more for shipping than it cost for the book on bungie's site...
But it's luckily on Amazon so I'm getting one now.

Something like this I guess;
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-T5-Portable-SSD-MU-PA1T0B/dp/B073GZBT36?th=1
I'm not really up to date with stuff like that. Some people would recommend building an ssd yourself with a cheap enclose for example.
>I literally don't even use battlenet...
Well now you do.
>now I would literally have to shell out money to a company I am not fond of in the first place to just play the game on pc
Care to elaborate? They're both owned by Activision anyway. Too add to this, you don't even have to buy it from Blizzard, you can if you want to but there are other outlets.

Battle.net would just act as the launcher like how steam acts with other games.
I actually e-mailed Amazon and got a response from them. Here's what they said:

Hello Daniel,
>I'm sorry to hear that you haven't received the Pre-Order bonus 'Gjallarwing sparrow'.
>I've checked all the details and see that the Pre-order doesn't come with "Gjallarwing sparrow". This pre order will give access to "Iron Gjallarhorn" and not "Gjallarwing sparrow".
>This information is provided on the product detail page below:
>*Access to Iron Gjallarhorn starting 09.20.16. Can be attained by pre-ordering Destiny: Rise of Iron and completing the in-game quest. See www.destinythegame.com for additional details. Iron Gjallarhorn not exclusive to any retailer or platform. Subject to availability.
The problem that people had was that for a few months they were advertising the launcher & sparrow. They even had posted a video (that Bungie made) showcasing both items on the pre-order page.
Either way, I'm glad that Amazon and Bungie made it right.
I was looking into the destiny grimoire.
Destiny Grimoire
If your talking in game lore there some in the triumphs pages as well as scannable objects in the game world. I’m sure there is a guide somewhere.
yea its on there, I pre-ordered it a coupla weeks ago, no price on it but expecting about £20-25 tbh
Edit: Just checked and they've put a price on it now, £17.99, great!

Canada eh? I’ll trade you an external ssd for a bunch of “All Dressed” chips, what you say? Anyways, I found a better ssd that is showing a $5 off coupon so it’s more like $60 before tax.

For what it's worth, I want to chime in as well that this worked amazing for me. I can't recommend it enough, truly.
I ended up buying one for my brother who could tell was more than likely walking away from destiny because of the loading. These two are what I sent him, in case you wanted suggestions.

I'm going to throw out the option of a hybrid drive: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M1NHCZT/
It has 8GB of flash that it uses for caching frequently accessed data. You get a lot of the benefits, but 2TB for <$100. Look at the 5th load numbers from this review: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-seagate-firecuda-2tb-review. Since you're usually only heavily playing one or two games at a time, it works really well.
I think you want this
https://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Collection-PlayStation-4-Standard/dp/B01K63R7HY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1496523767&sr=8-5&keywords=Destiny%3A%2BThe%2BTaken%2BKing&th=1
It's 40 dollars for the physical version, 60 for digital a code. maybe you can find a better price used? also, it's a lot of content for 60 bucks, and the digital version means you don't have to keep the disc in the system, which is nice if/when you become obsessed with the game.
the newest expansion by itself is 30 dollars, so it really doesn't seem that bad to pay 40 for the entire game, or 60 for the digital version.
Thank you very much! Easy to understand.
I'm contemplating on buying this one. It is on sale and it ships to Japan for extremely cheap. It has an "C to A cable" connector, so I think I only need to use this "C to A cable" (USB 3.1 to 3.0 cable, so the "A" will go to my PS4 OG, and "C" will go in the product)?

well if you'd find it and think it was funny you'd put it on here no ref link for fun or internet points but you actually putting it as a ref link makes me think you did it.
edit: /u/AzarinIsard mentioned the review was made on sept. 23, im gonna guess hes right and OP is not OR but sill, fuck ref links~~
edit2: OP is not a faggot.
PS4/PS4 Pro - External SSD is vastly superior to the default HDD. Using an internal SSD can be faster or slower than using it externally. Basically, your probably best off keeping your internal HDD for games you play less often and slapping Destiny plus a few other titles on an external SSD as there's not a ton of speed to be gained by going internal.
Xbox One - Similar to the PS4, you will gain an immense amount of speed by using an external SSD instead of the internal HDD. I don't think you can normally install an SSD internally with Xbox.
By the way, if you're thinking, "but damn external SSDs have stupid markup on them" then you are absolutely correct, have a cookie. Now buy your regular cheap internal SSD and slap it in one of these. Can't tell you how it functions with Xbox but works perfectly with my Pro. Also note that depending on the SSD you may have to pop it into a computer (or plug it in with the enclosure) and initialize the drive/format it for the PS4 to properly recognize it but this step isn't always necessary it seems.
I got the exact same thing as from this post, since the OP had indicated success:
https://ns.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/98ss5j/xb1_changing_to_external_ssd_load_times_before/?st=jl2mn7c0&sh=acd292a7
I searched and found the items on Amazon, so ordered from there instead of the site from the post above:

(let me know if the links don't work - posting from my phone)
For RoI I think there is a disk version see link below. I would echo what other people have said RoI and TTK has a good amount of content. I took about a 7 month hiatus from Destiny when Halo 5 came out; however, I came back right before RoI and it is the #1 game I play and stream. If you have any other questions let me know!

I've found it worth it. I bought the season pass for $35. Definitely worth the investment.
That works. Now finding an external enclosure is where all the ripoffs are. Do research and find one that is capable of 550 at least. Should be good. Mine is an all in 1 Samsung M.2 USB 3.0. Its small, and gets the job done. Caught it on sale for $115 (500GB). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073GZBT36/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have this one myself along with just the straight sata cable to usb. No need for enclosure, unless you want that.

::EDIT::
Sorry, didn't read that you already have it. Yes it's a solid upgrade, load times are much faster with an SSD. Menus, loading up strikes/tower/loading wall. All are faster than the spinning mechanical hard drives that are in the system currently. Also agree with above, you have to move the entire Destiny 2 game over to the SSD.
I used this one, it comes in bigger sizes too. You'll need an external enclosure too, just look those up they're like $10. Altogether you can get set up for less than $100. You just put it in the enclosure, plug it into your xbox and you're good.
The current fix to this is to buy an external SSD and transfer the game onto that. It's going to cost a minimum of like 70 bucks. I bought one and I don't regret the purchase, my game is smoother and my load times are exponentially better. Inventory is instant.

These are the only 2 items you need. I bought the 500 GB SSD, but if you want it for just D2 the 250 will suffice. it connects into the case and the case comes with a USB 3.0 to plug from it into your xbox.
I would say one of the best deals you are going to get it by buying the Destiny collection. It contains all the dlcs and rise of iron: Destiny The Collection - Xbox One Standard Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K63R7EW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Eff2xbD3S80RD
Amazon has the award-winning Samsung 860 EVO (500GB) right now for $84.95.
Great deal, Guardians.
Depends on what system he has it on. ps4 and ps3 digital codes can be found on amazon here
A far as I can find, you can't purchase a code for the pass on Xbox one or Xbox 360. However you can purchase an xbox cash card that can be redeemed on the xboxes and then used to purchase the pass online. You can find some on Amazon here ranging from $10-$100.
Questions from a DLC perspective:
What specific copy of the game do you have?
If you only have the Base Game, you'll need the TTK DLC before you can purchase the RoI DLC. If you have the Base Game and TTK, your good to go and can go ahead and purchase RoI. If you have the collection, it should of already came with the RoI DLC and the rest of D1's DLC. If its a physical disc, you didn't buy it used, and you haven't redeem these codes yet, check the packaging for the DLC codes before buying RoI.
This is what you need.

That's what I have on my xbox one and it works perfectly. Sorry about the long links.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't see you already had the SSD.
If you're looking for digital code, buy Destiny: The Collection. It has all of the past games and DLC, and will include the upcoming DLC that releases on the 20th.
If you're looking for a cheaper way to get a feel for the game, you'll have to get a physical copy. You should be able to get one off Amazon for less than $10. That will give you a very limited experience though, so I wouldn't really suggest it unless you're highly skeptical and have the money to buy this plus spend another $60 (if you like it and want to buy Destiny The Collection).
There used to be a free demo, but I can't find that one the store. If you find it, that will let you play the first six missions or so.
Try Amazon. They give you immediately a 12 digit code and your brother can redeem the code on his birthday.

This is what I bought and works just fine. Plug and play. Installed the game on the external drive and boom: less time loading, more time playing.

Samsung hardrive with Amazon enclosure for around $65 is what I bought and couldn’t be happier.
I got this Samsung @ 250 GB https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oa7PBbWWDCJTB. And the difference has been unreal. Sad that we have to buy additional hardware to improve load times but I would imagine even with a patch load times will be better from an SSD than the internal HD
I bought this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01F9G46Q8 and https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HJZJI84
the UASP is the important bit for utilising the speed of the ssd.
I also did a full ntfs format of it on my pc and checked if the firmware needed updating before I plugged it in my xbox1 reformatting and copying the games over, hope this helps, John
Looks like I can still pre-order all of them :-/ (Xbox / PS4). I already have mine in for a while now, but for those that are interested, check it out.

You could probably buy a digital code off of something like Amazon and then just send him the code.

Very doubtful honestly. I've been keeping a close eye on sales for Destiny 2's DLC and it's never happened. Either the base game is the only one that goes on sale, or sites with voucher codes (e.g. GreenManGaming always excluide Destiny 2's DLC as an option for using the discount.
There could potentially be a sale on the season pass as we approach the September expansion? Maybe? It's more likely that they'll put a new version of Destiny 2 on sale in December which has the base game, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and the September expansion all bundled into one (much like the Legendary edition of Destiny: The Taken King and Destiny: The Collection) I honestly don't know though.
Also, you double-posted your comment.
They've already announced an expansion pack :)

You plug it into the USB port, the console will ask if you want to use this for external storage, then it will prompt you to transfer items. The transfer may take a while, and make sure you using a USB 3.0 or 3.1 port in case you console has both 2.0 and 3.0.
I have burned through half of 1.5/2.5, all of ME:A, I have been working on my corporation again in GTA:V, I still have like 4 or 5 more KH games, Little Nightmares is in the mail, I have Prey also. There is a few more games but I legitimately cant remember what anymore.
Storage isn't an issue for me anymore since I upgraded to a 2TB Hybrid to solve my storage needs which is on sale right now too.

So currently I'm looking at an ASUS 1070 that's $430 after the rebate + $56 for Destiny 2. All that comes to $486
The Nvidia 1080 + D2 from the offer that OP posted is $550.
Essentially I'm spending $66 extra for a 1080 + D2. Is this a deal worth doing? Is the $66 worth it for the 1080 vs the 1070?

EDIT: ALSO FYI if you are on xbox: XBOX claims that you have to use at least a 500gb drive, but that is false... It will work with anything over 240gb's
If nothing else, I'd get it to play the crucible (PvP) since the PvP doesn't feel as fun in D2 to me from the beta.
You can buy D1 on Amazon for 12 bucks!
https://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Standard-PlayStation-4/dp/B00BGA9Y3W/ref=sr_1_3_twi_gam_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1503502645&sr=8-3&keywords=destiny%2B1&th=1
It's 29.99 for PS4 and 28.90 for XBone right now (Includes base game + All DLC). Seriously, it's well worth the $30, just try it out.
This. It says it right on the product page, in bold: http://amzn.com/B00BGA9Y3W
If you want, here's a link to a decent SSD and a case to put it in. The case comes with a usb3.0 cable, which you can plug straight into the xbox. The two together cost under $70
SSD
Case
I just added a SSD to my day one Xbox for $40. It is totally worth it especially for Destiny.
Case
SSD
Something like this
AmazonBasics 2.5-inches SATA Hard... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5RLG2C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
you DON'T use a usb port, you replace the internal drive !!
If you add a usb, it will ONLY run a usb buss speeds, which are significantly slower than what you have now !
usb drives are ONLY for game saves & storage.
put in a Hybrid ssd for $100 or so at 2 TB ! then move the old drive into a usb-enclosure if you want to still use it.
have a look here at the 2.5 Firecuda --> https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireCuda-Accelerated-Performance-ST2000LX001/dp/B01M1NHCZT
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OJ3UJ2S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0784SLQM6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
works well for xbox, dunno if will for ps4
Same here. The SSD helped immensely.
Shaders preview immediately.
Load times drastically reduced. There are times when I've loaded into the tower, emptied my post master, and collected my loot -- all before my clan mates even load in.
Very few if any loads between areas (blind well / dreaming city) -- same deal, I'll be sparrowing along with some buds, we pass through a loading zone and suddenly I'm alone because they're all stuck in mid air loading the zone.
Well worth the ~$80 USD for the SSD.
EDIT: Since a lot of folks are asking -- I bought a Samsung EVO 860 250GB, which is currently for sale on Amazon for $58 (nearly $20 less than I paid), and paired it with a $10 Amazon Basics Hard Drive Enclosure.
I'm using an OG XB1 FWIW.
SSD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07864WMK8/
ENCLOSURE: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5RLG2C/
I did this too and it's night and day.
You will not regret it.
Just get a decent 256gb ssd (make sure it's 256 and not 250 or 240), and an enclosure and you're good.
Yup. Instant on this SSD and this enclosure plugged in via USB on a used OG Xbox One. FWIW, it loads just as fast as the game does for me on PC, on an M.2 SSD.
On both machines, I regularly preview and change shaders while loading into a game. It's slower while loading, but it goes about as fast as a normal Xbox HDD does while not loading in. While not loading in on my setup, it's instant. Also, load times for areas and activities (solo ones anyway) is way faster. I never get stuck in the strike "loading levitation" and I rarely have time to take a hit when I'm traveling to the tower anymore ;)
This cable is probably the best/most low profile option.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJZJI84?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
Keep in mind that an SSD won't make a huge difference in situations like Crucible as you're still waiting on all the other players before the match starts, but it does make a substantial difference loading into any other activity, especially when you're solo.
Yep, that's exactly what I bought. Here's the link from my order page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GU89H6I/ref=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o00_?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I ordered it very late on Monday too.
https://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Collection-PlayStation-4-Standard/dp/B01K63R7HY
$40 at Target as well
Well theres not much to do unless you get all the DLC. Try and keep an eye out for The Collection to go on sale.
My update went smoothly yesterday.
This is the SSD I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0764WCXCV/
And this is the enclosure: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OJ3UJ2S/
Even if it doesn't solve the update problem its worth it for the improved loading times.
I just ordered mine on amazon.

RoI comes up as CAD$39.99 for me:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-CA/store/p/Destiny:-Rise-of-Iron/C1CJBXDGPGN5
Are you logged into the Microsoft account? You know that it won't show prices unless you are.
Or get the Collection from Amazon for CAD$54.99:
https://www.amazon.ca/Destiny-Collection-XB1-Eng-Xbox/dp/B01K63R7EW/ref=sr_1_1_twi_gam_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1487995113&sr=8-1&keywords=destiny+collection
I have done the same. For anybody trying to do so, just buy these 2 items off of amazon:
Samsung 860 EVO 250GB 2.5 Inch SATA... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
ORICO USB3.0 to SATA III 2.5"... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M08LCXW?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Those links contain everything you need. Once you have them, connect it to your xbox and transfer destiny to the ssd from the internal storage and you're done.
> Bungie literally named the archetypes
If you look at the D1 strategy guide, they actually had it then but it was not implemented to the degree that it is now. There is actually an image on the Amazon page that shows it.
There are a few things in D2 that remind me of early development D1...
Amazon US $39.99
Amazon Canada prices vary, at least last gen is a bit cheaper there though. I got so used to the CDN being worth about the same as USD that it still pains me to see the price differences between both stores.
I went with this Samsung 860 EVO 500gb SSD.
And this Orico adapter.
It works phenomenally. Cut all of my load times in half, and intra-instance load times are nonexistent.
Highly recommend it.
I probably should have worded my post better -the one I have is (I believe) an internal drive but it too is in an enclosure.
it's this drive - https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-250GB-Internal-MZ-76E250B-AM/dp/B07864WMK8/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537193972&sr=1-3&keywords=250gb+ssd
You definitely can plug in any old SSD. I'm connecting my old Samsung EVO 840 to my Xbox via a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter and some duct tape.
I haven't gone out of my way to do any timed testing, but anecdotally my buddies and clanmates all notice that I load in considerably faster than they do.
Buy the Vanilla Strategy Guide. There are 2 high-quality litographies in there I also hanged on my Wall. Won't disappoint!
[Link to Amazon US](Destiny Grimoire Anthology, Vol I https://www.amazon.com/dp/1945683449/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nKc1Bb55BSERQ). Also, I heard that Myelin Games (Destiny lore YouTuber) helped compile this.
Yea, i saw on amazon they'll ship om november 28, so.. SOOOOOON ™

They are the Sony Gold Wireless Stereo Headset. Here is a link to them on Amazon (as Sony doesn't sell them direct). If you look around you can sometimes find them cheaper with a rebate.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00HVBPRUO/ref=nosim/6553221-rg1864-00-20?s=merchant
I know amazon has them up for preorder
> http://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Expansion-Pass-Digital-Code/dp/B00LLIQWKC
As far as I'm aware, codes are region specific. That's why when people ask for beta keys and such they state they are looking for NA or EU codes. The US Amazon store, I believe only sells NA codes. You could make a NA PSN account to redeem it, and just set your PS4 as primary, that way your EU PSN has access to the content.
http://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Taken-King-Legendary-Edition-PlayStation/dp/B00ZJ20YQO
37$ with Amazon Prime. Point being, you can find it for less than 50$ at many different locations aside from your PS4 store.
Amazon pre-order for PS4: https://amzn.com/B01GU89H6I
Looking at the amazon page for Rise of Iron, the ps4 version only mentions the gjallarhorn

Thats everything, currently on sale at amazon $25
If I remember correctly, Amazon has a Samsung External 500 gb ssd for under 100 right now

Ive been looking in to getting an SSD for my Xbox one X, but don’t really know where to begin. Is one of these a good idea or a waste of money?

It releases today, actually. It’s currently out of stock on amazon, so you’ll have to wait a bit, but you can find it here
Get the Samsung 860 evo: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ytwKDbR49FQTP, fast and reliable. You can also use it if you choose to build a PC later on, note that you will need to buy a ssd external enclosure if you want to use it on your Ps4.
It's $60 on PSN unless you're not in the United States.
If you're fine with getting another disc and are in the US:
