Ah, it seems we have just filled those positions! Apologies to get your hopes up, that was bad timing. We will need more UI designers later this year - most likely in late Summer. Perhaps this is better suited for you anyway so you have time to prepare an application!
Adobe XD is a must - the fastest "basic" prototyping I've ever experienced. I've pushed it's use through our studio and it's producing awesome results (at least till InVision Studio comes out!). After Effects is optional but an invaluable tool for communicating bespoke animations for the programmers.
Really, as long as you can apply good UX practices to your designs, consider different player experiences at all stages, and can create something awesome in XD / Photoshop / Illustrator that is enough.
Some relevant books from the top of my head:
> Basic, good for references to how other games implement UI. Gets you thinking about all the necessary interactions and states required for effective communication
> Old but gold. Remains the most solid book for understanding UX for software applications of all time. Still relevant to games, particularly on PC.
> Very good for understanding basic psychology without delving too deep, and applying those fundamentals to game mechanics and common player behaviours.
There's plenty more non-game specific design books that are fantastic. I can send more examples if you like via DM.
I tend to watch a lot of YouTube channels too that create game design-specific content. Tends to be more detailed about mechanics and user experience. Nothing too UI heavy (There is a sever lack of game UI video content online) but will help you get into a game design mindframe:
Finally, some good reference sites to look up inspiration and ideas when you want to work on a new element:
DM me if you want extra details. Good luck!
Hey, I'd like to give some advice.
personally I play on a sensitivity which is about 20-25 centimeters to make a 180 turn ingame.
more tips:
Dont spend your credits on anything yet. Save them up. After playing for a while and doing missions to earn credits, think which character you like most. Skyhammer, aura, proxy? Let's say you like skyhammer you can buy a bronze loadoutcard in the store. In the sidebar of this sub you can find a guide on which are the best cards to help you out. You can buy both first and second generation cards in the store.
dont buy cases unless you have spare credits to waste. Which I don't think you have as someone who just started playing ;)
what mouse? Try this one here.
I use two of them, one each hand and i'm awesome.
This Product (V-Moda BoomPro) will turn any pair of headphones into a gaming headset. And the mic quality is very good - certainly good enough for gaming comms.
I use it with a pair of V-Moda Crossfade LP headphones - but they will work with any brand. check out /r/headphones for more detailed suggestions on what to buy.

These often go on sale for around $100 and they come in a black variant. you may need to wait until around christmas for pricing. Its a good starter "real" headphone.

As a gamer who has gone through a lot of noise pads, I can say the best all-around pad is a high-quality cloth pad with stitched edging.
Hard pads (aluminum, plastic) track fantastically well but over time will get worn down, losing their unique surface texture and instead getting smoothed out and reflective. This causes the laser/optical sensor to "miss" over time, and as it gets worse you get more and more jittery movement, jumps, and stutters.
Glass is very sensor-dependent. Logitech advertised their Darkfield laser as being usable on glass, but as I didn't have that tech in my mouse I couldn't get a reading at all. I imagine this would hold up better than other hard surfaces but the only glass pad I used was $30-50 and its just not worth spending that much on a pad with such low mouse compatability.
Cloth pads typically come in either cheap Walmart varieties or as a more premium gamer-focused pad. The former can be had for $5 in just about any general office supply store, and while they do the job they are usually small and don't have stitched edges. Over time this means you run off the edge of the pad and wear it out, eventually leading to the cloth surface detaching from the rubber base. That section of the pad is then unusable, as every time you mouse over it you just drag the cloth with you instead of holding over it. Premium pads are not that much more money but often come much larger (an absolute must if you have a low in-game sensitivity) and will last longer due to the reinforced stitching.
Here's the mouse pad I use now: https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Medium-Premium-TBS-4850-01/dp/B0009VRB66
I've had it for several years and it works as well today as it did on day one. It does require cleaning once or twice a year (soap and water with gentle sponging) but there's no noticeable wear or stains on it. Other options do exist- I believe the SteelSeries QCK remains a popular option- but this is the only cloth-based pad I've used and would recommend.
Here's an article with more in-depth information on how mouse sensors actually work. It's a bit overkill, but might help you make a decision given your particular needs: http://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-mouse-myths-busted/

Steps to reproduce: Simply launching the game
Result: Cannot launch or play the game
Expected result: Enter the main menu and able to play the game
Reproduction rate: 10/10
Edit: I figured out what it is. It is a driver for this controller adapter.
It's a bit of a waste of money though.
For less you could've gotten a PG278QR and the same width in resolution but 1440p in height. And still with 160Hz refresh rate.
Edit: Nevermind, OP's UW is in 1440P so that's fine, looks like product page on amazon isn't up to date. But a 1080P ultrawide would've been a bad buy.
Here you go its just about the same thing but its missing a few details that the artists have taken libertys on. Actually a very nice jacket and you supposed to wear a fleece under. I wear it whenever I go to the range with actual firearms so I'm sure it will hold up to shitty airsoft. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007WY025K/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1449149242&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=condor+softshell&dpPl=1&dpID=31SB2Bvt8UL&ref=plSrch
