Congrats on the fun trip and pending proposal. I don't have any info on the DSLR, but I packed for two weeks in Amsterdam last January in this backpack.

I am a person who is ALWAYS cold, so I put a lot of thought into the clothing to take, and I was pleasantly warm enough the whole trip. I will be going for four weeks again this winter, and will be packing almost exactly the same stuff.

For clothing:

  • One pair of warm, waterproof, comfortable boots (mine were Timberlands and I couldn't have been happier with them)
  • 6 pairs of Merino wool socks
  • Your favorite black jeans
  • Underwear
  • Ankle to wrist thermal set
  • 5 shirts (3 t-shirts, one long-sleeve shirt, one nicer shirt)

    For layers:

  • A lightweight, waterproof raincoat (not to provide warmth, just to make it so you don't get wet)
  • A down jacket (packs small, adds a lot of warmth, Amazon Basics sells a good one)
  • A zip-up fleece jacket. Between these three jackets, I was always a comfortable temperature.
  • Warm beanie
  • Warm gloves (the kind you can text in)
  • A THICK, soft scarf that you can use to keep your neck and face warm

It was a bit tight, but it all fit into my backpack (+ toiletries, electronics, water bottle, etc.)

Hope this helps, have a fun trip!

We ordered the Orange Holiday SIM from Amazon before our trip. We covered Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, London and it worked perfectly. It's about $50, covers 30 countries, and it comes with 10GB of data. **Edit: looks like they have a promotion and it comes with 20GB data.**

It was nice to have a working phone when we hit the ground so that we didn't have to waste any time in mobile phone stores.
