I love the camera. It consistently stuns me. t2i was my first camera, then GH4, and now GH5. I rent/use C100/C300 FS7 and RED Epic when needed.
The absolutely biggest thing about the GH5 that has completely changed me as a shooter is IBIS. I can now use the glass I want to use with the freedom of being handheld.
4k 10-bit is the next big feature that really excited me with the GH5. It gives me 'just' enough room in post to fix a lot of shots when compared with 8-bit. V-LOG is a necessity IMHO.
Slow motion is OK up to 120fps. There are limitations and the codec gets spread really thin, but I'm getting some very impressive results.
Dual SD is nice. Full HDMI is nice. The EVF is quite good. Internal sound is quite impressive, especially with this XLR accessory.
Anamorphic mode is really, really cool. I am meeting a local studio to do some camera tests and talk about low budget anamorphic shoots later this month. It's getting me on people's radar that I really want to get on.
The drawbacks are the small sensor. This is the weak link to the camera. It's still very capable of producing incredibly cinematic images, but it might just be a tad bit harder to do compared to a Super 35 camera.
TBH, as much as I love the GH5, it's not really an 'A-Cam.' Ergonomics and dual IBIS when paired to a lens like this one makes it an ideal B-Cam. I made the decision to purchase an EVA-1 last month. As a solo shooter, I plan on keeping the EVA-1 on sticks as my A-CAM, with the GH5 on a sling to grab opportunity hand-held shots as my B-CAM. One could rig the GH5 up and lock-it-down and get great results (as I have been doing), but it really excels as a handheld 'floater' due to it's features/ergonomics.
First off, I wouldn't get the mark 1 lens with GH5. Spend the little extra money if you're going for a Panasonic lens and get the mark ii to use in body image stabilization. Basically it would come down to a choice between a cheaper lens and a gimbal or a lens with dual IS. However, the camera + the IS 2 lens would be your budget, and there's certainly lots of other stuff to buy when getting started.
This is a set up I have used with the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera and it works great, fully expect it to look even better with the GH5:
https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-LUMIX-LEICA-SUMMILUX-H-X015/dp/B00J8H7H48/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1493994405&sr=8-5&keywords=panasonic+14mm
https://www.amazon.com/Zhiyun-Crane-Brushless-Handheld-Stabilizer/dp/B01I2MWUOG/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1493994394&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=zhiyun+crane&psc=1
That is a lightweight 14mm 1.7 lens (works great in low light) and the most affordable gimbal on the market. I also have access to a Ronin-m at work, and I have to just say, the shots you can get on both are different, but the Zhiyun is soooo much easier to set up and get great shots with. Plus it fits into a small backpack and is far less to lug around. I would also recommend either one of these monopods to use with this system:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=554095&gclid=CLPR1In82NMCFdgKgQod580D0w&is=REG&ap=y&m=Y&c3api=1876%2C%7Bcreative%7D%2C%7Bkeyword%7D&A=details&Q=
^ This is a great set up with the Crane. What I do is velcro the included remote to the lower point of the monopod and use it to control the crane manually. I can then extend the pole (even smoothly while filming) and essentially have my own hand held jib anywhere I go.
https://www.amazon.com/Sirui-SUP204SR-Photo-Video-Monopod/dp/B00I5NKCNE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1493994900&sr=1-1&keywords=sirui+monopod
^This version is a bit heavier, but also a touch more stable. You can not smoothly lengthen the pole while filming, but this monopod has the added version of feat attached to the bottom. You can set it up at its shortest and it will stand on its own as long as it's not windy. Great for setting up shots in the wild that you would also like to be in. I put a quick release plate between each point of contact (Quick release on the monopod -> crane, and quick release on crane -> camera), and you can just as easily set it down on the feat and detach from camera with no issues.
Now, something to consider is that you could get two GH4's (on ebay, around $700 each) for the price of one GH5. I guess that would depend on if you have others filming with you and whatnot. I think it really depends upon what you're wanting to film. Like for example, what exactly would you do with the drone and how would it help your footage? If you think that you need landscape shots and what not, then it's probably best to jump down a level in camera for a decent drone.
Some other things to consider that you might need:
-External Mic
-Tripod
-Extra batteries
-Fast enough SD card to record 4k (Sandisk Extreme)
Another camera to consider may be the Sony a6500 for around $600 cheaper.
u/casualgenuineasshole - if you want fast, autofocusing lenses, I recommend these four lenses for weddings, interviews, real estate, nature and scenery_
Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro - 1.139€ (faster than the Panasonic 7-14mm)
Sigma 16mm f/1.4 - 388,77€
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 - 319€
Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 - 949€
Total - 2.795,77€
Here are a few examples shot with these lenses and your cameras:
The Pan/Leica 25mm f/1.4 and 42.5mm f/1.2 are terrific lenses - but the Sigmas are a much better value for the money.
Hope this is helpful and good luck finding the right glass for your needs!

If I could afford it i'd replace my 12-35 and my 25mmf1.4 with the 10-25!
If I was buying the 10-25 like you I'd get the 35-100 f2.8 which is on offer right now on amazon, referral links included.
I'm also a big fan of my 42.5mm f1.7 for portraits and bokeh time. You could get the 42.5mm f1.2 , but it's manual focus only more expensive. Amazing quality piece of glass though. I love the 42.5mm focal length, I suggest you check it out :)
FreeTail Evoke Pro 1000x 128GB SDXC UHS-II/U3 Card, Up to 240 MB/s v60 (FTSD128A10) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PVQJR1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_UPkvQPyAWrT7U
I saw a post on these cards maybe a week ago and bought a couple to try them out and they work great- they’re cheaper than the bigger name brands like SanDisk but are V60 and have great write speeds and are fully compatible with any shooting mode the GH5 presents even C4K/10bit/400mbps. Really great and cheap cards
If you're just getting started, their products are good enough. The head has independent leveling bowl, the fluid pans move smoothly, legs and head are more than strong enough for your camera and lens. Have a cage and rails on one, so more weight still.
Their Pro Vista 7518B on rare occasions has fallen to $99 on Amazon, sometimes rises to as much as $400, though is usually around $150. A good value in the $150 range.
https://camelcamelcamel.com/Davis-Sanford-PROVISTA7518B-Video-Tripod/product/B00111V2Y0
A bit rough around the edges (literally), had to file the sharp edge of the plate mount as it was so sharp it could cut. Only on one end though, the other had been smoothed in the factory.. As with most tripods, made of aluminum, so took all of five minutes to round off the sharp corners with a file. Well worth the savings.
Also converted it to arca swiss, as the plate mount it comes with is not standard. Coneverting to arca swiss is easy, buy a $13 arca swiss clamp and screw it into the D&S plate. Use cheap arca swiss plates from then on, which on ebay are as little as $3.
Once you have paying jobs and are using a tripod daily, you might consider something something better. Until then, in the sub $200 range, haven't seen much better.
I have this cage w/ top handle and I like it a lot. $85
Left handle, as well. I've been using that for over a year and it's great.
https://www.amazon.com/CAMVATE-Camera-Handle-Canon-Panasonnic/dp/B01BPVIROS/
I don't think so, but it depends on how often you intend to take photos. The link I sent you, I took a photo every thirty seconds for an hour. Battery life can be extended greatly by using the economy mode that turns the camera off after two seconds, I think it will turn back on for your next timed picture, but you'll have to test it. You'll have to use an external battery solution like this if the battery won't last for your entire time lapse.
I've been using this one: Sony Memory Card 128GB, UHS-II SD, CL10, U3, Max R260MB/s, W100MB/s
It works well for all bit rates, etc., the only caveat being is it won't allow dual simultaneous recording at the high rates. But if you're not recording redundantly, it works great.
this card, cheapest one around that I have found from what I would call a reputable company. Works on all recording modes and I personally or my friend who got the same card after I recommended it to him have never had any problems with it.
I always carry one of these with me in my bag. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HT9MA1W/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Although I usually use the white side to good effect, it does have the grey side as well.
I got this cage and I love it - and it's soooo inexpensive...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BPVIROS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Yeah I just use this one from Amazon. It's only $7.
https://www.amazon.com/Lightdow-Balance-Reference-Reflector-version/dp/B00HT9MA1W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1520546885&sr=8-3&keywords=grey+card
Thanks for the advice. I currently shoot with my G7 and have the kit lens that comes with it, the 25mm F1.7, and the 45-150mm F4.0. I think it's a nice combo that covers all my bases. Upgrading to a GH5 or 5s would financially make the most sense for me. But if I make shit tons of YouTube money and upgrade to Full Frame, I'll let you know :)
You need the UHS-II ones.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D8H0D8A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
These worked fine for me. You don't need the more expensive "G" series ones.
I use these Sony SD cards that are rated R:300mb/s W:299mb/s. Better posted stats than the Panasonic or the Delkin, so I'm hoping they'll have no issue with the new 400mb/s shooting mode.
I just ordered two of these bad boys through amazon Transcend 64GB Class 10 SDXC UHS-II SD Card (TS64GSD2U3)
I expect that they will be plenty fast enough. I have been using Transcend brand cards for years in compact flash and sd and I trust the quality from the brand.

The GH5 has no recording limit other than your SD cards. You may save space recording in 1080p (or lower resolution) instead of 4k and maybe picking a compressed format (quality may suffer, you will have to try and see what works for you there). To be sure that the SD cards are formatted correctly, you can format the cards from the camera the first time you use them.
As far as I know it's not possible to charge the battery while it is inside the camera, but you could use an AC adapter instead (like this one) and use your camera for hours, as it would only require you to have it plugged in. That said, the battery in my camera lasts way more than an hour so you may not need any adapter.
AngelBird cards are for shit. You can try formatting them in the camera, but if that doesn't help any,
Try this: https://www.amazon.com/FreeTail-Evoke-1000x-UHS-II-FTSD128A10/dp/B074PVQJR1/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=freetail+v60&qid=1563326765&s=gateway&sr=8-1
I have used these cards at 400Mbps until the card filled up.
Ironically, I'm also in the market for a new tripod & did some research last night, looking at price-performance trade-offs. I arranged the items by range (although my ranges are bit lower than yours), and came up with the following:
(low budget)
$202.60 CDN - Ravelli AVTP Professional 75mm Video Camera Tripod with Fluid Drag Head
(mid-end)
$489.88 US - Manfrotto MVH502A Fluid Head and MVT502AM Tripod
Honrable mention to Benro tripods in the mid-end range.
(high-end)
$1039.00 CDN - Sachtler System ACE M MS
I've been using Sony SF-G cards recording 400mbps All-I with no problems so far. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZYNN6JP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'll drop this in here as I always do:
Samsung 128GB 100MB/s (U3) MicroSDXC Evo Select
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWZWYVP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've shot terabytes of footage over about 12 of these cards on a GH5 and GH5S and aside from the 400mbps all-i mode the cards have been steadfast. I'm still using a few of the cards I bought when I first got the GH5 on pre-order, never had an issue with any of these. I also like that being micro SD I can carry one type of card to use on my drones, gopros and mirrorless cams without wondering where I put the micros, or why I forgot to bring them!
I use the Sony 128GB, UHS-II SD, CL10, U3, Max R260MB/s, W100MB/s (SF-M128/T) for the 400 mbps. Great card for the money, but no need to spend a ton unless you need to shoot that higher bitrate.
