> Then again, I've never played any of the FF#'s including the famous FF7 and the newer FF10-13. What exactly makes these games fun in the first place? Still trying to figure that point out lol.

I mean, what makes any game fun? Just gotta find what you get joy out of and look for games that suit your tastes. I grew up on Final Fantasy and loved the fantastical stories wrapped up with fun and interesting casts of characters. There are some thematic things that carry over from one game to the next, but the numbered games don't connect to one another as sequels or whatever, so which games from the series you enjoy usually boils down to preference. Especially since the series basically reinvents itself with every new game.

>Oh and the good old rpg tropes of warriors and mages and archers was great too.

Normally I'd suggest picking up the FFX remaster that came out not too long ago and giving it a shot, because I just think it's the series' peak in character development and storytelling. But if the old school fighter/mage/thief trifecta more appeals to you, you might consider FF9 instead, which is my second favorite game in the series.

>Heard a lot about this, never played a persona title before. Can you give me the run down on why it's fun?

It's half Shin Megami Tensei (dark, demony fusing goodness) and half dating sim. You get the grindy micromanagement for half the game, and the other half is dedicated to attending school and getting to know your companions (and usually potentially dating one of them by the end of the game).

>because western rpgs 1. too much horror-religious-gothic-skulls-and-bones stuff (you know exactly what I'm talking about)

Depends on where you're looking. Mass Effect is a classic scifi space opera. Deus Ex and the most recent Shadowrun games are solidly cyberpunk. Fallout is post-apocalyptic.

>2. none of them have party systems

This is where you're going to have to dip more into CRPGs. Pillars of Eternity. The recent Tyrrany. I mentioned Shadowfall just above. It's definitely something I miss from most WRPGs though, I like the banter and depth of story granted from playing with party NPCs.

>except dragon age inquisition which I played and it sucks dick.

I'm not entirely sure what you hated about DAI since you didn't elaborate, but I do agree that the game was pretty lacking. If you liked the promise of DAI but didn't like the execution, you might go back and try Dragon Age: Origins. It's not perfect, but the game has a hell of a lot more soul than DAI does.

is a ps3 all you got? because paper mario is a pretty bright, cheery series, but it's nintendo only, obviously.

ff9 is on psn, and is a pretty happy game, for the most part. i think lunar: silver star story is on psn, too. kingdom hearts lets you play out disney movies, which is pretty happy, and the ps3 remake is $20 on amazon.

Assuming you have a PS3 or PS4, Birth By Sleep is in the Kingdom Hearts 2.5 collection.

They put Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Chain of Memories into the 1.5 collection for PS3.

Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix and Birth By Sleep Final Mix in 2.5 for PS3.

And then they did Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 together for PS4.

Sorry its so complicated.

But if you have a PS4 you can just buy

This and have most of the games.

And then Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue(dont ask just go with it) has the rest.

The original "Suikoden" is a famous novels about resistances (exaggerated historical facts) written in China over 500 years ago.

Konami's Suikoden is called "Gensou Suikoden" in Japan. Meaning "Fantastic Suikoden". It continues to maintain a strong respect for the original novel at the plot level. (108 members and their waterside castle, the mighty empire...)

If you challenge this project, please read the original novel once.

PS2 version. It's really good and has high replayability. If you end up liking it on PS2, then you will probably end up buying the Vita re-release and appreciate the graphics and added content more. If you don't have any other games on your plate, I definitely recommend buying it and playing it now. I'ts $20 on Amazon.

Best turn-based JRPGs for the PS2 - Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant

Its been years since I first played either of them... but the story was excellent enough to stay with me. While both are pretty scary games, both of them are pretty funny at the same time. Seriously, I can't praise this series enough. Its a shame they had to live in the shadow of FFX.

Thanks to how popular other SMT games have been, Atlus started to reprint it a bunch in the last 5-6 years. It went from being super rare to ... not rare at all. $18 on Amazon. If you have a way to play PS2 games, it's worth it.

If you like card based games and have a PS3, the new Kingdom Hearts collection has the remake of the GBA one, RE: Chain of Memories. It's certainly a departure from the series and if you've only played the others it can take a lot of getting used to, but it is a solid game. http://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Hearts-1-5-Remix-Playstation-3/dp/B008SBZD5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382408949&sr=8-1&keywords=kingdom+hearts+hd

I figured I would leave this here for those that want to purchase the "Persona 5 - PlayStation 4 "Take Your Heart" Premium Edition Edition." It is currently live at Amazon right now for $89.99, if you have Prime you get 20% off pre-orders making it $71.99.

Also all other posts will be removed and I corrected the release date because it is Feb. 14th 2017 for the US.

Edit: Currently sold out. Personally I would keep tabs on the listing as it might come back in stock at a later date.

Edit2: I was able to pre-order one when it first came up here is proof. Keep an eye on Atlus official website it lists all the retailers that this will be available at.

Just so you know they did end up making Composite cables for both PS2's and they are fairly cheap. So you can play your PS2 games with your HDTV if they have a composite cable slot. I have a huge ps2 collection so I will not be re buying all my games.

Looks like it could be a typo since the description is for VIIR. But that would't really make sense sense this is listed as for Switch and XB1 as well. There is also a separate listing for the digital version.

It's a streaming box that Sony made. Can play Vita games as well as PS Now

Wait--I thought you only need one bundle that collects all the essential stuff?

I've never gotten into the series, and am not particularly interested, but I will grab it once it hits a low price to see just how convoluted it all gets. Isn't this collection like six games? And it's pretty much all you need?

Many Japanese gamers seem to agree with you, according to reviews on Amazon.

> Deceptive advertising! Square Enix PR is too cruel!

> Chapter 13 is so awful...so cold-hearted (cries)

> I don't feel like defending this trash anymore

> This century's greatest deceptive advertising, selling this game and running away

u/BobationNation · 5 pointsr/JRPG

Lucky for you it IS actually on sale, but on Amazon right now. It activates on steam.

u/arof · 7 pointsr/JRPG

The physical copy on amazon is down to a regular price of $25, in case you don't have memory space to spare or prefer physical copies.

u/FaceOfBear15 · 1 pointr/JRPG

I'm in Canada, and I actually just found both of them for $35 each on Amazon.ca, I'm putting in my order right away!

u/Cody2Hottie · 3 pointsr/JRPG

US$299.99, now lets look at Canada.... ugggh... v.v

u/tabegoro · 12 pointsr/JRPG

Even though there were a lot of trolls that gave FFXV negative reviews, there seemed to be a lot of legitimate disappointment with the game.

If you look at Amazon Japan or any other review site here, it got more 1 stars than 5 stars.

Where the hell are you finding the switch for 299 in the US?

Walmart 448

Amazon Nintendo 424

No one has the 299 option in stock, Everywhere that does have the stock is 400+ in the US. and 448USD is 600CAD And that's without what ever state you live in sales tax.
