Thanks! It was about $120 and it was super easy to install yourself! Make sure you buy the crossbars first! Here's a link to the rack:

I forgot to report back but everything is installed and working correctly ... so great to have CarPlay!

I got this head unit and this install kit.

Assuming you've already successfully removed the stock stereo, here are steps to install the above linked head unit (keep in mind this is for replacing the stock/no frills Jeep stereo and no steering wheel controls):

  1. Screw dash kit to sides of head unit.

  2. Use butt clamps to wire install kit harness to new head unit connector wires (match color to color). You'll have some leftover wires (just terminate those) ... I attached black to black and it seems to work fine, so the factory ground must be good enough. I'll report back if I start having any issues.

  3. The red wire in the install kit gets attached to the red wire on the head unit connector. The other end gets spliced into the 12v constant wire that powers the cigarette lighter (in my case this wire was pink and black). There is a push/pull clamp at the back of the cigarette lighter that allows to pull out the cigarette lighter electrical and have more access. After you cut the pink/black wire you'll have two pink/black wires and the red wire to attach together. I used a wire nut to do this.

  4. Plug-in antenna adapter, USB cable and microphone to back of head unit (straightforward) and run wires as you wish. I ran my mic cord down next to the steering wheel and attached to the rubbery part of the steering column housing but I'm not sure how well this will work. I ran my USB cable up through the middle air vents for now because I have a phone cradle up on top of the dash. I plan to drill a hole and clean this up in the near future.

  5. Plug-in wired harness to factory harness inside Jeep.

  6. Plug harness into head unit.

  7. Test (you'll have to reattach battery).

  8. Screw head unit back into hole, replace ventilation control power and snap panel back into place.

Have this one on my 2015: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013COCXDC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_kIgPBbDF4CGGV

It works well and looks great. Word of caution to check cross bar measurements and styles to make sure the rack you get will fit properly.

Rockford Fosgate R169X3 Prime 6" x 9" 3-Way Full-Range Coaxial Speaker (Pair) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BF6HVG4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_a.VQDbK4F8CMZ

These will fit in the stock speaker holes in the doors. I know they look round but the factory speakers are actually 6x9 and paper garbage. These will open up the soundstage quite a bit in the Patriot. You can even find some adapters on crutchfiled to make them true plug and play. The stock speaker covers come off without removing the whole door panel and you can screw these in.

As far as loudness the stock unit will drive these at Max volume and while they will be clear you are not blowing out any windows so a new head unit would be in order for more volume.

Subs I can't help you with but I have seen a few write ups where people built one into the rear side compartment where the little cargo pocket is.

You could try and find a set of the flipdown tailgate speakers in a junkyard or on eBay. I know they can be added but you do have to replace the whole rear door panel for it so sourcing the parts from a pick and pull would most likely be the cheapest route.

I don't know if one is better than the other, I just got mine from amazon. Don't forget to change out the controller as well. Might as well since you are already getting in there. Here are the ones that I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ET434RO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got these -

Plasticolor Jeep Sideless Seat Cover Black/White (008581R01) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IPS486Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_afkyzbPPEK5PP

And like them a lot.

I bought this one. My complaints were that it does not line up strait with my cross bars and as such had to be slightly offset. The other is that it rusted pretty quickly.

This one.

I didn't think it was fancy enough to post to lightbar.

these are the fogs. I'd have to find the highbeam/lowbeam ones at home.

Mine said TRD on it in white. Even though it said universal. It will rub right off with an alcohol wipe.

Other than generic bull bars, there's the RRO winch bumper and the Big Country Euroguard. I think there's one other brush guard floating around out there somewhere but the pics I've seen didn't look as good as the Euroguard.

One thing that I really dislike about my Riot is the pebbled plastic dashboard. It's impossible for a suction-based base to keep hold. The climate here makes a windshield mount impractical too.

I bought this for my 09. Comes with a steel plate you insert between your case and phone, and the swiveling holding piece is magnetic and rotates 360 degrees. You insert the base into your CD slot and tighten to fit:

Couldn't imagine a better device to fit the need. I'm actually thinking about getting a cheap tablet so I can have a larger display and enough memory for my entire music library.

It's probably just going into "limp home mode". It won't really hurt the transmission unless you push it hard in that mode or drive it for an extended time like that. Every time I got the "death whine" and mentioned transmission on the Pat, I got all the scary "Oooh CVT bad. Need new transmission" garbage and all the FUD about how its impossible to add your own fluid correctly and you'll screw up the transmission if you do anything but give a dealership all your money.

Then, about 4 months ago, I dug into it and read some threads on jeeppatriot.com, found out that it is possible to properly check your CVT fluid levels and I bought this:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B072HF1JSG/

Then I just followed the instructions and found out that my CVT was waay low on fluid. I added the regular off the shelf Valvoline **CVT** fluid from AutoZone/O'Reilly and my 2010 with 160k shifted as good as new. I'm probably closer to 180k now. It either fixed the problem or sufficiently kicked the can down the road long enough that I didn't have to give up my Patriot so soon.
