Here is a basic one for 14$. It will support all monitor and injection mode, it's still still pretty good for a basic wifi adapter.

Panda 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter

But if you to go to the top notch level and get the best of best wifi adapters. I suggest go with this one. It's super powerful with the fast Atheros chip, supports all the necessary modes, and it's still not an outrageous price.

Welcome then! Don't worry about it, we've all been where you are...

I would like to suggest you to read instead looking for practical videos or walkthroughs, because, in general good books tend to be wider. With wider I mean that they are better to let you understand what's happening, why it's happening and what is the ratio behind it.

This doesn't mean that I'm against videos which, in some way can help you out, but in my humble opinion books are a lot more useful, even if, of course studying sometimes can be frustrating due to the amount of time needed.

Anyway, my suggestion is to start with this book:

Been using this for over a year. Zero issues. Picks up everything great and seems to come highly recommended from the Kali community. I also got the mounting bracket to clip it to the top of my display on my laptop, and a shorter 1.5 ft. cable to keep it neat.

Edit: I also use a Lenovo x200, 8gb DDR3L, i5 same gen and 120gb ssd. Love that little thing. My boss gave it to me after her upgraded and I knew immediately what I wanted to do with it.

I have spent all night looking for the best solution. My main concern being how well the device is supported by Kali / Nethunter, I thought the range of Out of The Box supported devices was wider. Now I'm also looking for a good price.

I've been working with the Hacker Playbook Ver 2. It's pretty good. Has helped me learn a lot.

Is your wireless card the one your host (the laptop/Win10) is using to connect to the internet?

If it is, it will only show as a wired connection within the VM.

There is currently no way to assign the wireless card to a VM as wireless.

You will need to use an external wifi card attached to the VM. It's not a bad thing as most inbuilt wifi cards don't have the capabilities that a decent external wifi card will eg. Monitor mode, packet injection.

(Edit to add...)

Something like THIS is perfect.

How about this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00VEEBOPG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1CSD37BFGDG5P&psc=1

Is this adapter fully supported by Linux yet? I heard that this chipset only recently (last year?) got supported and that there were problems. Not sure if they've been resolved.

Realtek RTL8812AU chipset btw

Nope not necessary, Get the usb Wifi Adapter I use this one, [https://www.amazon.com/Alfa-AWUS036H-Wireless-Long-Rang-carrying/dp/B004L72U7O/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478627834&sr=1-11&keywords=usb+wifi+adapter&refinements=p_89%3AAlfa]
once connected to the MBP, wait about a minute and then with Kali running, click on the Devices menu and then USB, and you should see a device labeled realtec or something close to it, click on that and then on the status bar at the bottom of you VM you should see activity lights flash for both USB and the Hard Drive, when the flashing is over, if you do a ifconfig you should see two adapters, one from VB and the Wifi one, use the wifi one for all your testing and monitoring in Kali, if you wish to monitor A networks you will be able to find a Alfa that will do that as well.

I just picked up a Panda PAU05 to use with Kali in a virtual box via my Macbook Pro and it was totally painless to get running.
