Reasonably priced 3 axis joystick - I bought 2 of these, I have them hooked up and in prototype stage. I really like how these look and they work pretty well.

I then took the cover off the button, and pulled the white plastic piece out. I used ultra fine point sharpies to hand draw the symbols on the small piece of white plastic, then replaced it under the cover.

I was thinking a slide pot, but wasn't aware of the arduino. I really only need the throttle action as I use a Genovation control pad already for button commands.

Learning about the Arduino is probably what I needed to get things rolling.

Thanks!

I did not! I got this model instead:

I wasn't very well versed in how to wire components so I was starting off using your code and seeing if I could get all the components to work properly first before moving on to my own setup. I grounded the Vss Rw and K ports, and powered VDD and A, as well as connecting Rs to port 14 (I have the same arduino mega). was there anymore connections required? It might be because I did not have any switches attached to define X Y or Z, i think ill go try that XD

PCB Breadboard? (https://www.amazon.com/Solderable-BreadBoard-matches-tie-point-breadboards/dp/B0040Z6OK6). Thats how those LED graphs are meant to be used. I think that, in addition with resistor packs, would help keep the wiring fairly tidy. Check out this tutorial: https://create.arduino.cc/projecthub/ejshea/led-bar-graph-and-switch-array-8467e0

Oh, they look like this, which is $40 each.

SODIAL(R) AC 240V 5A 4NO 4NC Momentary 2.5mm Fixing Thread Joystick Switch https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00ZE9VJ1Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_dONCAb5M8ES36

But a warning they are just switches not anolog. So they are on or off. I like it better that way but just a warning. They are really just 4 switches in the base.

This is not a great example because I only had extremely thick solder at the time that was lead free so it was hard to solder properly. Terrible solder job. But you can see the idea.

The wire is called “bus wire” https://www.amazon.com/Jameco-Valuepro-3819-100-Hook-up-Tinned-Copper/dp/B00B8866TW/

I decided to go this route cause I found those pre connected pcbs to be really limiting and inefficient for space.

I got these, I haven't tried yet but I suspect you can put text under the cap https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N7HCJ7S
