You can start with a SteelSeries QcK+, or QcK Heavy, depending on if you want the pad to be thicker. Personally I don't like these because they're pretty rough and give me friction burns on my wrist, so if you're worried about that happening to you there's other options like Glorious XL, Razer Gigantus, Zowie G-SR, HyperX Fury S (this one is also rough for me but not as bad as QcK), and there's many more but that's a few off the top of my head. Some are a bit pricey though. If you really want some good info and help from more people, make a post on /r/mousereview saying what games you play and what kind of features, if any, you're looking for. They help me out with mouse related stuff all the time, and I'm also pretty active there too haha.
More than likely the QcK+ will be plenty for you as long as it isn't too rough for you. Seems to be an uncommon problem, but I have talked to other people with the issue. Just try to find a pad that's at least 40cm (400mm) or 16in or so wide, that's the most important thing. Some people swear by the Allsop Raindrop XL even though it's a bit on the small side for me. If you're around 900-1000 eDPI you should be fine with this one, I like it a lot, just wish it had a couple more inches in each dimension.
I have this mousepad (the CompLexity team version) coming in tomorrow if you want to wait and see if I recommend it.
Apologies for the wall of text, I'm kind of into this stuff, probably too much haha.
I mean, you would definitely be able to tell left and right, but other more specific directions such as 5m away on the right side of connector? Definitely not.
I would recommend getting some high quality headsets such as the Philips Fidelio X2HR or the DT 990 PRO .
Both are extremely high quality and you would easily be able to tell exactly where sounds are coming from. Also, for the price of around £120 they will sound better than any £200-500 speakers you can find.
Tl:dr Yes, you could tell left from right, but not anything specific. Getting a good pair of headphones is recommended.

I have that one https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GF63-8RD-066-i7-8750H-2400MHz/dp/B07FYTH3WW
It's the razer deathadder chroma. it's very light as it takes little to no effort to pick it up and down while playing. it's very mobile and light since it's 3.68 ounces.
This is from my experience, it will be different from most comments I seen online, so take it as you will. I got a 165hz monitor with G-sync. As far as I am aware, it is suppose to only "turns on" when you go bellow your refresh rate. To "use it properly" for CSGO, you have to cap your fps around 3~5 fps bellow your refresh rate (so around 162 for me) because supposedly if you do not cap your fps and you hover around 165 fps, you will be turning it on and off and will get bad input delay as it changes back and fort. However, I have it on all the time and do not notice a difference when it goes bellow 165 fps, and to be fully honest, I do not feel a difference in "smoothness/less choppy" in csgo with it off or on, nor an input delay. I hover around 240 fps in csgo, go as low as 150 fps at times in online matches, and get around 110 fps in offline maps with full bots, it feels the same to me with it on or off. (and even when I do no notice tearing, it is never enough for me to say "I need it on", but I do say why I leave it on all the time bellow.).
I get around 240 fps(at 1440p), and at first I tried "using properly", by both console command (fps_max 162) and trough RivaTurner (set to 162 fps), but they caused more issues. Both made the game feel more sluggish. Looking side to side did not improve smoothness as it felt the same and only made a slight difference when doing quick 180 turns (so not often), but I distinctly remember saying that my mouse felt like its sens got lowered when it was on. I tried to play a few matches with g-sync on with capped fps to get used to it, and although I did, I much preferred to play turn it off due to the stuttering and input delay I felt back then. However, in games outside CSGO where I do not get high fps, having g-sync on is a must. I am too lazy to switch it on/of when switching games, so I just left it on all the time, but left csgo fps uncapped. In csgo, I do not notice a difference in input delay when it goes bellow 165 fps and back and forts (happens a lot during normal matches), but most importantly, I do not feel a difference in terms of choppiness/tearing most of the time as I am not constantly look for enemies behind me, and even when I get low fps(110 fps) it is still high fps. The only difference was when I capped my fps, but left uncapped I was fine. I do remember feeling a bit of a delay when I first started using g-sync in csgo through my mouse, but I got used to it quickly where I now do not even notice if there is one now. Did a quick test now, turn it off and on, look side to side, and even capped my fps at 60 to see if I saw a difference in choppiness/tearing, as well as input delay. I felt that at 60 fps there was a bit more choppiness/tearing but mainly when I do quick 180 turns, but the input delay felt the same. Around 110/162 fps I did not feel a difference in tearing/choppiness and once again, did not feel the input delay, probably because I am used to it now.
(I personally believe capping your fps makes the game more sluggish rather than gsync alone. When I put fps_max 300 or even fps_max 999, I feel a difference than when I set it to fps_max 0. Even on my old 144hz monitor without g-sync, I felt a difference in smoothness between capped and uncapped. I rather take longer to load the map than have a sluggish feeling when I look side to side).
G-sync really only shines in games where you do not get high fps (around or below 60). In games outside of CSGO, I do notice that with g-sync there is a small mouse input delay (almost as if my sens gets lower with it on), but after you play for a while you get used to rather quickly, as it is consistent and is not changing back and forts. In these games, g-sync is amazing (fallout 4, Mass effect Andromeda, Witcher 3, etc.), where playing on max settings gets me around 50~70 fps, where if I have g-sync off and I look side to side, I notice the tearing right away. Gotta have my G-sync on.
(Also, freesync is a bit worse than gsync in terms off input delay according to most reviewers, but it works quite well. My second monitor is a 4k freesync monitor, my nvidia 1070 card only "partly supports it" so I cannot fully say if it will perform better on an AMD graphics card and on a monitor above 60hz, but I feel that it did what it was suppose to at making games look better at low fps. I did feel a input delay but I also remember getting used to it rather quickly, and also feeling that in games where I do not get above 60 fps (most games at 4k), it was a must to have it on. And once again, felt that it was unnecessary for csgo as I was getting around 100 fps at 4k, and freesync also only kicks in when you go bellow your refresh rate.)
As I said, most comments I see online mentioned that it makes csgo feel way to different with it on, just as many pros that have tried it, but for me it feels the same, probably because I got used to it. I would personally blame more on the capping the fps rather than g-sync alone.
