The 5422 is a full hollow. The 5622 is a center-block semi-hollow.

Jerry's has a couple from a factory special run he did a few years ago. They both have the Super HiLo-Tron pickups so they may or may not have the type of tone you're going for, and they have 2v 2t like a Gibson in addition to the Gretsch Master Volume on the bottom horn. What Guitar Center told you may be correct. You're not ordering something that's in the Gretsch catalog that GC just doesn't have, it would need to be special made so probably the Gretsch custom shop. Unless Jerry or Southpaw does a Factory Special Run which I think I've read is an order of 24 instruments.

Have you thought about the 2622 Streamliner? It's the same body style and the one I had the fit and finish were fantastic. The body is probably a fantastic modding platform. In my searching so far it's the one that I regret selling.

And is it "I want a Gretsch" or just a 335-ish semi-hollow?

Hagstrom makes the Viking (Gibson scale) and Super Viking (Fender scale) left handed. Ibanez has the AS 53, 73 and 93 models. OR Balaguer is starting up their Standard line that has a 335 style semi-hollow. But they're pre-order so you may have it by the end of summer. I'm sure there's more, Epiphone Sheraton's that pop up once in a while, and the Firefly that shows up on Amazon occasionally

I got this for my Tele, but it also fits my strat. It's a fantastic case. Here is the link

If you get the 24 fret version, you'll only really have trouble reaching the last 2 frets, so you'd end up with the same accessibility as a 22 fret version. Not terrible. But the toggle switch for the pickups would probably get in the way very easily, as well as the tone control. Volume control placement should be fine for the most part. Personally I'd try to remove the tone pot, depending on genre you won't really use it, and also replace the pickup toggle with 2 of these bad boys (preferably mounted onto the plastic cover at the back of the guitar). If you can't rewire a guitar or know someone who can, I don't think I could recommend this guitar for left handed use. However if rewiring is a possibility, that thing will work better upside-down than a Stratocaster, Telecaster, Les Paul, etc.

Edit: you'll also have to replace the nut, yeah.
