>Chase hosted one last time on February 15, 1997. He did not impress a young cast member on the show at the time by the name of Will Ferrell. “The worst host was Chevy Chase,” Ferrell admitted in Live From New York. “I don’t know if he was on something, but he was just kind of going around the room and systematically riffing. First it was on the guys, playfully making fun, until, when he got to one of our female writers, he made some reference like, ‘Maybe you can give me a hand job later.’ In hindsight, I wish we’d all gotten up and walked out of the room.” Concluded Ferrell: “I think you’ll find a consensus on the Chevy Chase thing.”

So "please do my research?" :)

I'd recommend this book as a start for your research, depending on how detailed you need to be: http://www.amazon.com/Live-New-York-Uncensored-Saturday-ebook/dp/B00I828AJK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1398311421&sr=8-3&keywords=saturday+night+live

Also, Wikipedia is your friend, at least in getting a start in the right direction.

It's not about SNL, but The Second City: Backstage At The World's Greatest Comedy Theatre features a lot about SNL alum during their pre-SNL days at Second City, including Mike Meyers, Chris Farley, Bill Murray, Tim Meadows, Martin Short, Dan Akyroyd, among many others.

First, check out the SNL book full of all the information you're looking for! Make sure you get the updated version though that was released a couple years ago.

Then the SNL YouTube does have some behind the scenes stuff up. I think those set of videos are called Creating Saturday Night Live.

Lastly, honestly any time an SNL cast member, current or past, is on either Seth Meyers on Jimmy Fallon, a large portion of the show is the host and guest just reminiscing about SNL or talking about current SNL.

It only touches on SNL a little bit but Steve Martin's Born Standing Up is a great book.

I also really recommend the book Live From New York, it's made up almost entirely of first hand accounts from the creators, cast members, writers, and hosts of the show over the 40 year run

Amazon link for those interested in picking it up, like myself.

Live from New York It's current through 2003, but has all kinds of interesting stuff. 500 pages, but I didn't get bored.

Yes. I definitely remember them. My dad had some, and I remember sneaking around to read them. Hell just look at the chapter titles. Go here and click look inside. You can see the first page if you scroll up.

Man times have DEFINITELY changed.

It isn't exactly centered around SNL, but Rachel Dratch's book Girl Walks into a Bar has stories about her time there (probably similar to Bossypants in a way).

The early seasons are the only ones that got DVD releases. I've never bought it so I don't know what the format is but I'd assume it's each episode separately

u/jarrettbrown · 28 pointsr/LiveFromNewYork

They did an updated version that came out in 2015 for the 40th season. So that explains where I read it.

He wrote a book (not an autobiography, really) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060968257/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0

I recall reading it YEARS ago, and I remember absolutely nothing about it.

u/kittenmeowkovich · 3 pointsr/LiveFromNewYork

If you go on the Amazon listing for the DVD there is a screenshot of the back of the box and it lists I'm No Angel as being included.

Lovits has a quote somewhere in this book where he talks about that comment Lorne made.

I'm too lazy to look for the quote but he was really upset about it.
