My arms are absolutely fucked, even more than 6 years later. However, mine were way beyond regular tracks. If you’re a nurse in training a lot of what I’m going to say may be redundant but I’m going through basics in case some dude with no idea comes in here looking for ideas.
Skincare products that did the most:
Any sunscreen you like. Keep your scars out of the sun. A tan may seem to disguise them temporarily but if you want the actual pigmentation to fade you’re going to need to protect them from UV. I’m big on Asian products and love Biore’s Japanese Sunscreens. They feel great, no white cast, not smelly.
Second, keep that shit moisturized. Bio oil, cocoa butter, any basic moisturizer you like is going to be better than nothing. The idea is keep the skin healthy and prime so it can do it’s job breaking down that extra pigment and scar tissue. However, I saw the most results from Korean Snail products. They also don’t smell girly or feel thick. This is listed as a facial moisturizer but I rub this shit everywhere.
Other options:
That’s the basics of care. As for actual treatment? Lasers. I have seen the most astonishing results with scar reduction in laser resurfacing techniques. I have only seen it first hand on nontrack scars but it’s the most dramatic improvement in a short time.
There’s also microneedling which I’ve seen having amazing results on hyperpigmentation and lumpy scars. This is cheaper and more accessible.
I hope some of this rambling help, I have class and gotta run! College at 30, a chance I only got thanks to the ‘done :)
What about a daily meditation book? Like the just for today one, sorta, except there are plenty out there that aren’t NA/AA based. I used to have one I really liked that wasn’t NA/AA based, but I lost it a long time ago. It was definitely a good way to center each day and try to improve myself daily tho.
Mindfulness or DBT type workbooks would be cool. Something like this maybe?
Oh! Or one of those journals that is already formatted for mood and symptom tracking. I saw one the other day and almost bought it, it was really cool. This is it and I liked it because everyday was formatted basically the same and had space to track the number of hours of sleep you got, your mood and energy level, a space to write your to do list, your meals and such. I think that’s a great idea for everybody in recovery, everybody should be shown how to do mood tracking on day one IMO. That one has a picture of the page layout on the website so you can get an idea what I mean!
Okay I could probably think of more ideas if you want but those are my best three (probably I’m reverse order, I like the last thing I suggested the best).
Bro don't use those disposable enemas. Those disposable fleet enemas? Those are a disgrace. They aren't real enemas. Enema bag. Get a proper open top enema bag with 2 liter capacity and fill it with warm saline solution. Lie down on your side and take in as much of the 2 liters as you possibly can, hold it in whilst massaging your stomach, and pretty soon you will have the greatest relief you've ever known.
I know this post is very late and maybe not relevant to you anymore, but this is what I recommend on Amazon: Enema bag
Trust me, man. When things get real bad--and I've gone 12 days without shitting before!--I used this bag and the feeling of evacuating my bowels with this bag is probably the greatest feeling I've ever experienced. Buy this bag just in case. It's the best enema out there.
At my clinic they said they have the ability to measure 0.5 mg for a patient and have in the past. They did that when patients were at the very end of their taper and they didn't want to jump for 1mg to 0. When I asked about 0.1mg they said they hadn't done that before.
I'm guessing/ my gut feeling is that at most places accuracy is going to be well under a mg.. which is very easy to measure accurately in the scheme of things (1mg dose is about 0.1 grams of 10mg/mL concentrate which is pretty typical accuracy in the cheapest pocket scales so having actual calibrated equipment should make that quite easily, liquid measurement or weight).
This machine (which looks a lot like the one they use at my clinic): http://www.parker.com/Literature/Domnick%20Hunter%20Process%20Filtration%20Division/PAFD_literature/Life%20Sciences%20Literature/Life%20Sciences%20Product%20Datasheets/DS_P_67_SciLog%20LabTec%20Methadone%20Dispensing%20System%20Datasheet.pdf seems to measure accurately +/- ~0.01 ml or ~.1mg if 10mg/mL concentrate is used.
I'm guessing in the scheme of things you are getting 9mg +/- 0.1mg (so 8.99mg is worst case scenario), if things were off by a whole mg (or multiple mgs) on a consistent basis it would be pretty easy for nursing staff to be slipping hundreds (or perhaps thousands of mg) under the table.. which is something (the only thing?) the authorities/DEA is looking for when they come into check american clinics.
If you are super concerned about it, mg scales are relatively cheap and if they give you unwatered down doses, it shouldn't be a big deal to double check your dose when you are at the window... this ~$25 one on Amazon had served me well when using it for other purposes, many moons ago: https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-GEMINI-20-Portable-MilliGram/dp/B0012TDNAM/?th=1&psc=1
Magnesium and tea helps. Senna tea. I bought a big jar of PRUNES and the sorbitol in prunes is what actually makes you go, try it. Eat 5 or so a day. Those plus miralax are the only days I’ve been able to go. And drinking tea. Went through a box of turmeric+meadow sweet+ginger this week. But it’s a lot to keep up with.
I mix my miralax with Calm Support. A $20 magnesium supplement found at the health food store GNC Vitamin Shoppe, Rainbow Blossom Whole Foods etc. it helps a lot actually. I am taking magnesium pills tonight to see how those do. Always follow with a Gatorade because the sodium helps the ingredients all soak in and absorb into your gut.
Let me summarize that—
When I do all of these things, I don’t have an issue waking up and having a bowel movement before or after I come back from the clinic.
Id say cinnamon is worth a shot. I don't think it did much for my sweating, but you can buy it at any pharmacy, Target, or Walmart and it's not expensive.
I'd recommend a good multivitamin. I take source naturals life force (iron free.)
I also take zinc picolinate (Thorne), vitamin d (nature made) and magnesium glycinate (Doctor's best).
I searched online to find these brands I take, they have good reviews/rankings on the 'labdoor' site. I feel better in general taking these supplements. It's basically stuff that's supposed to help testosterone and stuff alot of people are deficient in.
Vaultz Locking Utility Box with Combination Lock, Black on Black (VZ00192)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KWN5VZ4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Mmhryb879V2VG
I use this personally. I have a much larger safe at home but use this for my take homes. Works perfectly and at least at my clinic they accept it even though it's a dial lock and not a key
Prunes are great too but something about chugging a 12 oz glass of prune juice is better. Then prunes as upkeep maybe. (And the Swiss Kriss tabs for sure!!)
16 mLs isnt going to go far up on a cup that size. Even on the smaller dixie cups its not a lot. A small visine bottle is 15 mLs in comparison.
Like u/foomits said clinics calibrate each am. I do remember someone saying on here there clinic only calibrated monthly. Which would be weird as then you would have methadone out unlocked always.
Its actually kind of cool that they have the liquid literally all gthe way to the end of the hose and it doesnt drip out, due to vacuum pressure.
i mean i guess its possible that they are in correctly calibrating, but highly unlikely. From an occums razor standpoint if you think about all the ways methadone could be stolen, this would probably be the hardest way.
You could always bring a 200 mL oral syringe and measure it in front of them. However keep in mind that the nurse you do that to will not forget that though.
Heres what a one mL oral syringe looks like. Which is 10 mgs. https://www.amazon.com/1ml-Syringe-Only-Luer-Slip/dp/B01LZ80YOV/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1526498274&sr=8-3&keywords=1+ml+oral+syringe
