Here is a quick list I made in another post.

Most of the monitors here are free sync and I would say have good implementations however I will include a Gsync category.

I would not recommend 4k for the 2080. It would be able to run games around 60 fps at 4k however refresh rate will make things more enjoyable. Also, 4k high refresh rate monitors are currently very expensive.

Good value companies to look at:

Viotek

Pixio (Did not list since availability issues but worth looking at)

Nixeus

More established companies to look at:

Acer

Asus

Samsung

LG

Gigabyte (They have one monitor on the market)

TL;DR of VA vs IPS

IPS has slightly better viewing angles than VA.

IPS has slightly better colors VA.

IPS has better response time than VA.

However, VA does not have defects like IPS glow and much better contrast, so much better blacks and such.

TL;DR of TN vs IPS

IPS has much better viewing angles than TN. TN will color shift if looked at straight on.

IPS has much better colors than TN.

TN has the best response rate.

TN is basically worse in every way than VA and IPS except for response time.

Right, crash course time. I'm not really into the fighting game scene, barring watching a few EVO matches, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that they use TN panels, which prioritize high refresh rate and low input lag over picture quality. That one you linked most certainly does. If you've been using a TN monitor for a while, I'm not surprised that your friend's Predator got you thinking.

For picture quality, you have two options for panels: IPS and VA. Some people will tell you that IPS is the only way, but those people are wrong. IPS monitors clearly win the areas of color quality / vibrancy and viewing angles; TN panels have awful color shifting when viewed off-center, and VA panels, while better, aren't fantastic. On the other hand, all IPS panels bring with them the dreaded "IPS glow," a soft, pale light from the corners visible in dark content.

VA panels, on the other hand, stomp the competition when it comes to contrast - compare ~500:1 for TN, ~1000:1 for IPS, and ~3000:1 for VA - making them an excellent choice for movies. Think the difference between LCD and plasma televisions, which is actually not far off, technologically speaking. But, they're incredibly slow - there are only a handful of VA panels available with refresh rates over 60 Hz - and not really suitable for fast-paced genres like FPS.

Also, consider that both IPS and VA panels have inferior response times and input lag, compared to TN. Almost all gamer-oriented TN panels have ~1ms response times, while IPS aim for ~4ms and VA are lucky if they get ~8ms. What this means is that things might seem a little sluggish when you start out; I emphasize "might" because some people, like me, don't care about the difference, and others don't even notice it. Manufacturers attempt to fix this problem by building "overdrive" into their monitors, essentially pouring more juice into the pixels to force better response times. As you might imagine, though, this comes with its own problems, including higher input lag and "overshoot," faint trails and blurs behind fast-moving objects. This one I do care about, and it's one of those things that once you see it, you can't stop seeing it. IPS panels can suffer from this problem, but VA is where it gets really nasty.

So, in summary, you have three options:

  • TN panels, which offer blazing speed and near-CRT levels of input lag, but often have poor colors, contrast, and viewing angles. This is almost certainly what you have right now.
  • IPS panels, which offer rich colors and almost perfect viewing angles, but have only middling response times and suffer from glow. This is what your friend has.
  • VA panels, which offer fantastic contrast and middle-of-the-road colors and viewing angles, but have low refresh rates and often suffer from input lag and overshoot.

There are also other features that you might want to consider, but if you're not into PC gaming in a big way, they might be a waste. A few:

  • 1440p+ resolution. This one can be nice even if you don't game. Higher resolution makes for a clearer, crisper picture, but does significantly decrease performance in games and can flummux Windows' and Linux's UI scaling to this day. Still worth it, in my opinion. Do note that the best resolutions for each screen size are probably: 1080p for 24", 1440p for 27", 4K for anything bigger.
  • 21:9 aspect ratio ("ultra-widescreen"). I haven't used this one myself, but I hear it's pretty great, especially for games and movies. For applications, it might not perfectly replace two monitors, simply because you can't do things like full-screen a video on one monitor and work on another. It's up to you on that one.
  • 120+ Hz. Fast refresh rates allow for more fluid gameplay, provided your graphics card can hack it. That 780 is a bit long in the tooth for this, at least with recent titles. In addition, 120 Hz offers a neat bonus: it's a perfect multiple of both 24 Hz and 30 Hz, which means it will eliminate judder in nearly all media.
  • G-SYNC / FreeSync. Designed by NVIDIA and AMD, respectively, these technologies sync your display's refresh rate with your graphics card. What this means is that you can experience tear-free, buttery smooth gameplay without having to enable VSync and all the input lag nightmares that come with it. Note that, while FreeSync monitors are often competitively priced, G-SYNC adds a hefty tax, and you can't use one company's tech with the other company's graphics cards.

Well, that's just about all you really need to know about finding a new monitor. As for suggestions, I don't really keep up with all the latest models and whatnot, so I'll leave that to others. The Predator is an excellent monitor, though. If you liked your friend's so much, why not get one yourself? It's right in the middle of your budget at ~$750, and includes all of the neat features above, minus 21:9. For $50 more, the ASUS PG279Q offers a similar experience with maybe juuuust a bit better colors. Finally, Acer also offers the 34-inch, IPS, 21:9, curved XR341CK for ~$840, which is...just...wow...really quite a...reasonable price...hmmmm. There's also the G-SYNC-enabled X34, but that $400 premium is absurd.

Well, I know that was long, but I hope it helped. I just think it's always best to know what you're looking for, rather than just following some random recommendations. If you've got any questions, it's my long weekend, so ask away.

Depends on your budget, bud.

I assume you know what things like refresh rate are, and what IPS/TN panels are. If not, [here's] (http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/r/refrrate.htm) a quick definition of what refresh rate is, and a [video] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8Y26Uq07Kw) on the differences between IPS and TN panels. Also, consider Freesync. Here's a [video on what that is] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ey-KObDABI).

Now that you've gotten settled, I'll give you some options :)

[Acer XG270HU] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_1?tag=amazon0606-20&ie=UTF8&qid=1430272001&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+xg270hu+omidpx) $419

[Asus MG279] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_1?tag=amazon0606-20&ie=UTF8&qid=1430272001&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+xg270hu+omidpx) $600

[Acer XR341CK] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XR341CK-bmijpphz-34-inch-UltraWide/dp/B0111MRT90/ref=sr_1_15?tag=amazon0606-20&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1436945804&sr=1-15&keywords=3440x1440) ~$1000

[Acer G257HU] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00QS0AKVK?tag=amazon0606-20) $260 -- this is a really good monitor for the price if you're on a budget. It doesn't have freesync, but it's great for the price if you don't care about screen tear. Hey, that rhymes! LOL

[Acer H277H] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKU6/ref=twister_B016E49WWW?tag=amazon0606-20&_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) $280 same goes for this one! it's 1080p so it won't be taxing on your system like 4K would. 1440p isn't that taxing as well if you adjust your settings :)

If you are playing FPS shooters, having freesync could be a beneficial thing for you :) so consider that!

Hope this helps!

EDIT: quick side note! WAIT FOR COMPUTEX BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING! I can't tell you how many times people buy hardware before new ones get announced/come out, and then they beat themselves up. Consider these options as a pathway, but you should 1. Do more research on the things you look for in a monitor besides the things I've mentioned before and 2. Wait until something better gets released since you said you are planning to do a PC build in the near future. Wait for AMD's new architecture, named Polaris, to drop. Wait for benchmarks. Wait for monitors at computex to be announced, and then make a decision! :) All these things can help.

Why? Because I'm planning to do a PC build myself in the near future! :)

If I were you I would definitely look into getting a 2560x1440 monitor, it will be fantastic for any sort of editing and will provide a stellar gaming experience too. Unfortunately most of the affordable displays have to be imported from Korea via eBay, here are some links: Qnix, Achieva Shimian, Yamakasi Catleap. There is another alternative if you're absolutely sure you want a 1440p monitor and you don't want to take the risk with a Korean display. Monoprice sells a 2560x1440 IPS display for under $400. Dell and ASUS also have a really nice 1440p monitor, they just tend to be more expensive.

I think if I were you I would take a serious look at the Shimian Achieva, while it's a smidge more expensive then the Qnix, it has a glossy finish which aids the vibrancy of the colours it's displaying and would be the best pick for photoshop and other editing programs. Take in mind that without a matte finish it can succumb to screen glare but if you're willing to tweak the lighting in your room, it'll look fantastic.

Then you can afford a second Korean 1440p monitor into your budget if you want to or if you'd like to save some money then you could just look into a cheap 1920x1080 screen for a secondary monitor if you'll only be using one monitor for the important stuff (editing and gaming). But if you want my honest opinion, the ultimate setup for your needs and your budget would include this BenQ display. It is simply one of the best gaming monitors ever made-- it has a sweet 144Hz refresh rate, unbelievable build quality and can be put into portrait mode incredibly easily. On the negative side it is not an IPS screen and is not 1440p but if you play any sort of competitive game (SC2, LoL/DotA, Counterstrike) you will see the buttery smoothness that this monitor offers. If you combine that with a 1440p screen, that is a delightful combination.

tl;dr trying to figure out what's important for me. Looking for 1) ~27", 2) curved (just a preference), 3) high refresh rate (not sure how important this is), 4) IPS (not sure how important this is), 5) 1440p (or 1080p?), 6) VESA mountable, 7) low blue light, 8) flicker-free, 9) tiny bezel for a multi-monitor setup for long hours of non-media and non-gaming related usage.

Looking to get a new monitor setup and have put in some 15-20 hours of research, and I feel more lost than when I started.

For programming/reading/daytrading (and not gaming/doing media related stuff), what should I be looking for and what criteria should I be evaluating? I'm trying to maximize screen area across a multi-monitor setup (4-8 monitors total for 2 rows) and ease on the eyes for long hours of work (so: flicker free and low blue light), I don't really care about color range/trueness.

Size: looking for 27" as that's the largest that can realistically be mounted on a desk stand in a multi-monitor setup.

Panel type: TN/IPS/VA - what's best? I'm seeing a lot of conflicting opinions but it seems that TN is cheapest, VA best for gaming (?) / media, IPS best otherwise?

Curve: I think I prefer curved - opinions?

Resolution: 4k seems like a waste, leaving 1080/1440. It seems that the limiting factor for taking in data from my monitor setup would be my vision as opposed to the number of pixels per screen given that I'll have at minimum 4x27" monitors. If that's true, how much advantage is there really to 1440 versus 1080?

Refresh rate: is high refresh rate actually worthwhile/easier on the eyes [for not gaming]?

Response delay: Not really a consideration for usage unrelated to gaming.

Flicker-free/low blue light: Sounds nice, potentially the most important factor, but horribly subjective -- how do you actually quantify this? It's listed on some monitors and not on others, but never quantified. Is this a real/worthwhile thing, and am I to just believe that it works fine on any monitor that mentions these features?

Mounting: looking to get a 2x2/2x3/2x4 monitor setup, so VESA mount is critical. Further, it seems that I'm realistically limited to 27" monitor size due to monitor stand limitations (I don't want to mess with wall-mounted arms). If there were some good >30" monitors I might be able to make a 2x2 setup work (Samsung's 49" looks sooo fantastic but seems tragically awkward/difficult to make work in a multi-monitor setup due to weight/size).

Brand names: Recommendations? I keep reading through horror stories about dead pixels from foreign/less heard of brands that only produce monitors. Anything to watch out for?

Some monitors I've been looking at:

(1)

pros: 27", curved, 1440p, 144Hz, VESA mount,

concerns: VA and not IPS (is this even bad?), doesn't mention "flicker free" (but it's 144Hz? are refresh rate/flicker-free even related? idk), complaints about dead pixels

https://www.amazon.com/VIOTEK-GN27D-Curved-Computer-Monitor/dp/B078P57ZWL/

(2)

pros: 27", 1440p, 144Hz, IPS (!!!), mentions flicker free, good brand

concerns: not curved, pricey, doesn't mention low blue light

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CH9ZTI4/

(3)

great (best?) brand (Asus), 31.5" is a good size but might be awkward/hard to mount, options are straight+1440p+75Hz and curved+1080p+144Hz rather than the ideal curved/1440p/144Hz, really great sounding blue light/flicker free tech (subjective though)

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=0JC-001P-00A25

(4)

Asus, 27", IPS, 1440p, not curved, pricey (165Hz is overkill)

https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B017EVR2VM/

(5)

Asus, 27", IPS, 1440p, requires out of stock adapter to VESA mount, low refresh rate

https://www.amazon.com/Designo-MX27AQ-2560x1440-Frameless-Monitor/dp/B00VRKVGSC

curved+IPS+high refresh rate+1440p seems like a hard combination to come across, though I'm not sure that those are important features.

If you mean 2716dg then there are a few things to consider:

  • If you're moving from a TN to TN panel it will be a huge improvement.

  • Dell QC is about a decade ahead of Acer and about 3000 years ahead of Asus.

  • It's a great TN panel but even with perfect calibration, its still not an IPS. This monitor suffers from color banding that can't be 100% fixed as it has no gamma controls outside of Nvidia panel.

  • Viewing angles on the this monitor are better than most TN panels but it's still a TN panel. Even a little big of an angle will make the screen look pinkish.

  • Colors are good but not IPS good. Digital vibrant controls tends to oversaturate them.

  • You can't get 144hz 1400p cheaper. It's the best value option.

  • If you get an good IPS lottery panel it blows it out of the water. 4ms vs 1 ms isn't noticeable, I haven't played competitively in over a year but I've had a fair bit of tournaments behind me from quake 2, CS, WoT and Dota. The new IPS monitors have excellent combined response rate (Input lag + 4ms response rate is often better than the TN input lag + 1MS response).

  • IPS lottery means you need to get lucky with QC. Some have terrible bleed and dead pixels. I won the lottery, that being said all the 1440p panels out there have some sort of a drawback.

Personally I went with https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Predator-NVIDIA-Widescreen-Display/dp/B0173PEX20/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496077486&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+predator+27(Don't get scared it's in Canadian dollars), and I don't regret my decision. I'll trust Acer long before I'll ever trust Asus, had some terrible experience with them.
u/Eist · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I looked at these exact three screens when I wanted to buy a new monitor.

They are all probably similar quality screens, but the Dell has excellent features and and excellent stand for the price. The Asus is nice if you want to do any moving of the screen at all, this is not for you. The Acer is pretty sexy and a tad cheaper at Amazon. As is the Asus.

I have the Dell and it is beautiful. I recommend this one.

u/ExoticWhal3 · 1 pointr/Monitors

I used pcpartpicker.com to filter the specs I needed, and unfortunately most of the 144hz monitors I found were unfortunately out of stock (or would take long to deliver). Here's what I found:

This Asus is 75hz but cheaper than most.

This Acer sounds perfect but is unfortunately out of stock.

And as stated previously, this AOC would also be great, but is out of stock temporarily as well.

I guess the Asus one sounds better than just a 60hz, but i'll have to look up some reviews. What do you think, if I may ask?

EDIT: I keep seeing people saying that 144hz doesn't work with HDMI, and using HDMI seems like you'll get a max of 75~hz? I'd also like to add that I definitely understand the future proofing, but as of right now the only games I go over even 70-80 fps in are games like csgo (which I don't play so often anymore), and star wars BF/battlefield. On top of that, I'm ignorant to the glory that is anything above 60hz, so it wouldn't be a huge detriment to me. I'll definitely be on the look out for these monitors, but I just can't seem to find any at a good price for my budget, or that are in stock. Thank you though!

u/dxrion · 4 pointsr/Monitors

the top 1080p 144hz 1ms TN Panel they recommend here on every post that asks, #1 is the Viewsonic XG2401

& #2 is the LG 24GM77-B

they say these two have the best color accuracy for a tn.

i recommend the Samsung CFG70

it has better color accuracy than both of those monitors above (because it's a VA panel and not a TN) and colors look as good as on my other IPS display IMO. (IPS panels have the best color accuracy)
and it has great viewing angles unlike a TN panel.
also it's $70 off rn. i really wouldn't pass this offer up as you're getting better color accuracy and better viewing angles for only $20 more than the Viewsonic.

if you have any questions let me know (:

u/Rahu_X · 1 pointr/Monitors

I had a C27HG70 for a few months (got refunded due to getting 3 occurrences of dead pixels). Generally, I liked it, but it did have one issue in my experience, and that is the adaptive sync experience.

For me, the monitor had very noticeable inverse ghosting even above 100 FPS with FreeSync enabled. Hard to notice in brighter scenes, but in darker scenes (which this monitor excels at displaying) it was very distracting. I'd say the refresh range where this doesn't happen is maybe 120hz - 144hz (which is the "Standard" Freesync setting in the OSD), but that's such a relatively narrow range for FreeSync. The inverse ghosting issues combined with that narrow range just made me not even bother with the setting, and that was one of the main reasons why I bought the thing.

It also seems to be a common issue from my research. Posts on the Samsung forums begging Samsung to adjust the overdrive (you can't adjust overdrive/overdrive seems to turn off while FreeSync is enabled) via a firmware update are not hard to find, and the issue seems to happen on both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs.

Also with FreeSync enabled, my monitor was prone to backlight flicker on loading screens for games.

Basically, if you don't plan to use adaptive sync at all, then yeah I'd say go for it. Visually, the monitor was great. Great colors and super deep blacks, and while HDR600 may not be "true HDR" to most people, it still worked wonders to enhance the image in games that supported it.

Also, instead of the Pixio, for an IPS in that budget range, I'd recommend the LG 27GL83A-B. It's less expensive, has faster response times and better motion handling than the PX7 Prime from my research. The only downside compared to the PX7 is that it doesn't have wide color gamut support, but given the vast majority of content is authored for sRGB anyway, you won't be missing much.

u/SearingEnigma · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I'm not fully aware of every monitor price right now, but I highly doubt you'd find 144hz in that price range. Probably best to just grab some 23in 1080p. You can definitely get an IPS for that price, though. I just bought one for a friend not long back for around $140.

I believe this popular one is what I went with: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/

Edit: On second glance, looks like you really can find cheaper monitors with a higher refresh rate. Honestly, just search the terms on Amazon and check reviews. I know that's not the greatest answer, but as long as the monitor has the specs you want and doesn't have horrible reviews, that's pretty much the best approach.

u/Wtf_socialism_really · 1 pointr/Monitors

You will drop some frames going to a 1440p monitor, but 60-144 hz is a huge difference and pretty much the biggest difference of all right now. It will also help somewhat with aliasing due to the greater number of pixels on screen at once.

If you have any intention of upgrading your GPU at some point, 1440p is an even more attractive option because those GPUs will drive 1440p even better.

Quick edit: I also say I'm very surprised at the cost of that TN panel from ASUS. Their premium on ROG is insane. For that price you can literally get an IPS Acer Predator or save a good chunk of money on the equivalent TN panel

The human eye is actually pretty danged good at detecting this kind of thing. 144 fps will look clearly different from 60 fps. In fact, 144 is the standard for competitive CSGO (they used this one at ESL Barcelona).

Hokay, now let's talk about screen size and resolution. The main issue with a 27" 1080p monitor is that pixel density is pretty low. Not a problem if you sit far back from your monitor. Or maybe not a problem at all - some people aren't bothered in the last, but others can't stand it. It's a personal choice, but I guess refresh rate kind of is too.

As for a cheaper, similar monitor, consider the MG278Q at a little under $400. I think the only difference is that it's TN, while the 279 is IPS. IPS panels tend to have higher input lag, but better viewing angles and color accuracy. TN is generally considered better for gaming anyway.

I also couldn't help but notice in your other thread that you wanted to get a GTX 970. However, you won't be able to use this monitor's FreeSync feature, which Nvidia refuses to use (Nvidia's equivalent is G-Sync, and monitors that support that start $100 more expensive).

If you didn't know, what these technologies do is even up refresh rates based on your FPS. A regular 60Hz monitor will refresh every 1/60th of a second no matter what. So if you're running 60 FPS, it lines up perfectly - each frame is shown once. At 30 FPS, every frame will last two refreshes. But if you're running, say, 40 FPS, frame timings become inconsistent: 2 of the same frame in a row, then maybe 1, then another 1, then 2, etc. - this is why a solid 30 fps can look better than 40.

So basically, with FreeSync, if you run 40 FPS, the monitor will simply refresh 40 times per second. Consistent timings no matter your FPS.

It's far from a necessity, though; even if you get this and the GTX 970, you'd still be getting a 1440p144 monitor.

I know that was more than you asked for! But I hope the info helped, and you can make a more informed decision on whether you want 1440p, 144Hz, both, or neither.

I can get you cheap, but not best. I can get you best, but not cheap. You're asking for two mutually exclusive things, do you want the best over the cheapest or the cheapest over the best?

I can offer up three cheap, decent monitors (about a 4 out of 10 on quality): ASUS VS239H-P, Dell E2414Hx, Acer G246HL.

I can offer up 2 fantastic, but decently expensive monitors (about a 7-8 out of 10 on quality): Dell UltraSharp U2412M, Asus PB238Q

Trade offs for everything.

The S2719DGF is an excellent monitor. For flat, I'd go with that.

The curved is sometimes a little easier on the eyes, but it is really a user preference. Check out the VIOTEK GN27DB if you're thinking curved. Great brand, great deal, good specs.

EDIT: On second thought, I'd go with this Nixeus: https://www.amazon.com/Nixeus-FreeSync-Certified-Monitor-NX-EDG27S/dp/B07N4DL9F7

Their build quality is amazing.

Fantastic build quality, great QC, RMA process is usually done over Amazon/newegg not sure how direct to Nixeus works most people use Amazon to RMA.

3 year warranty though.

The V2 is a preorder only its the same monitor as the v1 that was loved by everyone on this sub, youtubers etc but there are minor changes in the v2

Thinner Bezels & HDMI 2.0 support with now supporting Freesync over HDMI (they pretty much added this for console support)

Same panel still & same great build quality.

Well, here in the US Dell S2417DG a 24" screen, TN panel, 2560x 1440 res, 144hz, G-Sync can go down to $380-$390 USD depending on sales. The price for the monitor swings a lot, so you might have to monitor, hehe, the price for a bit. If you can wait to earn the extra $50 you can get the S21716DG, which is the 27" version, again monitor the price.

My experience with the S2716DG has been amazing. Jumping from a 60hz screen playing Overwatch to the 144hz monitor. The fluidity of the movements on screen, made me cry. I thought my old 60hz was enough but, I'm glad I made the change.

Well, at the same time... that G-Sync in tacking on about $150-200 to the price. You might also want to look at the AOC Agon line of 2K, 144hz, Freesync monitors. The Freesync monitors are generally cheaper. Reviews are great and the monitor looks amazing as well but, the Dell was the cheapest G-Sync I could find (at the time) and I went with that.

Mentioned this only as an idea. Not sure how easy it will be to buy from the US Amazon store and have it delivered to Canada and how VAT will be applied to the product.

EDIT: sorry, should have said why I’m recommending it. I have this monitor. It’s a TN panel, but you aren’t gonna find IPS monitors lower than 4ms. But with the right calibration, the colors look fantastic. Very simply setup both physically and calibration wise. Adjustable height and angle is clutch to get that perfect viewing angle. Since it’s a TN panel, it does suffer from poor viewing angles. Unless your straight on, you’ll see colors get washed out towards the edges if your off-Center. But that’s an issue with every TN panel. But colors are great, 1ms response time is great, G-Sync is awesome, and it’s just an all around beast of a 1080p 144hz monitor.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Monitors

No. JUST higher frequency OR higher resolution OR better panel isnt worth to spend money.

IF you can get a few of those things on one panel - then its worth it.

I suggest you stretch your budget a little bit more and get this: Dell S2716DG

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DGR-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B0149QBOF0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536011239&sr=8-1&keywords=S2716DG

Its TN, but its like the highest quality TN there is. Ive heard lots say this Dell panel is better over a lot of IPS and VA panels.

With Gsync you will get some REALLY smooth motion quality, love to gaming will be reignited fully. Plus 1440p and 144hz will be pretty impressive and last you a while.

There are two 1080p gsync monitors that are a little bit cheaper. But they are trash, they arent worth their price at all.

So this is a monitor I've been looking at. It has all of the features you're looking for plus g-sync. The only cheaper free sync monitors that I could find were only 100 USD less at most and they weren't brands that I recognized. (Disclaimer-I don't know that much about monitor brands so they could be great brands but I usually don't assume that to be the case with cheaper electronics in general) all of the other name-brand freesync monitors were at pretty much the same price. It's also a highly trusted and recommended monitor by many reviewers. Could you link me the freesync monitor you were looking at?

Also from every review I've read it seems like g-sync is a strictly better technology, providing a wider range of refresh rates, while freesync still stutters at lower fps, as well as freesync monitors having much more refresh issues such as ghosting. It's also important to note that g-sync monitors actually use additional hardware to regulate the refresh rate. While I don't know enough to evaluate whether the cost of this hardware justifies the price hike, however, having it takes load off of the GPU and, as a result, freesync won't give you much performance benefit over V-sync while G-sync will.

It does however irk me that Nvidia doesn't allow you to use freesync on its GPUs, seeing as there's literally no reason why they couldn't.

u/caodaiwei · 1 pointr/Monitors

After some quick googling, it seems like 1060 isn't enough to power a 1440p @ 144hz. So if you cant even hit 144fps no point in getting 144hz.

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3278370/gtx-1060-1440p.html

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3571963/1440p-gsync-1080p-gsync-gtx-1060.html

The Gsync on my Dell S2716DG is pretty nice but i feel like for me the higher refresh rate is more important since i play competitive shooters. While i cant see the higher refresh rate difference, i can feel it. If that makes any sense.

This was my previous monitor and i feel like this might be a better fit for your 1060.

u/exoendo · 2 pointsr/Monitors

you really aren't going to find many 1440p monitors under 600 unless you look into the korean ones like the crossover or catleap. These korean monitors can be 300-400 dollars, but there are some catches:

  1. The panels aren't guaranteed to be perfect. Basically these companies take all the rejected dell and apple lg panels and repackage them. Apple and dell are very strict when it comes to quality so what might not be good enough for them could still be good enough for you (i.e. 1 dead pixel etc). Some on the other hand report that they get a flawless monitor, but at the end of the day it's a gamble.

  2. The stands/casing are usually bad

  3. if you have problems, it's not easy to ship back to korea and get a replacement. There will be no customer service

  4. the on screen displays are usually bad or non-existent

  5. many don't have a wide variety of ports, so you will either have to get an expenisve adapter or you are s.o.l. The nixeus has display port, but for 489 you may as well just pay an extra 150 and get the peace of mind of an established brand. This may be your best bet if you want to go cheap as possible and have display port though.

Personally, I would reccomend the Asus PB278Q. It usually goes for 650 but apparently amazon has recently dropped it's price down to 550ish. It also has amazing reviews from pretty much everyone on the web, you may want to youtube some reviews or read more about it. But it has a pletora of ports including displayport, and might be the best bang for your buck.

Witcher 3 minimum specs: Core i5 2500K, 6GB of RAM and a GTX 660
Overwatch minimum specs: Core i3, 4GB of Ram and a GTX 460
World of Warships minimum specs: Core i3, 2.5GB of Ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT

So from the looks of it, I'm taking it your system is playing these games but not super well. That makes it a bit easier to decide on a monitor.

> I am really confused with all these 4k vs 1440p vs 1080p... Will I even be able to play on 1440p/4k?

The higher the resolution, the better your picture quality. Getting 1440p requires more graphics card power than a 1080p so your computer may complain. However, if you are getting a 27" monitor it should be 1440p. Everywhere that I read it strongly advised that you get 1440p if you get a 27" monitor. If your computer can't deal with it you can manually lower your resolution to 1080p although the picture quality will suffer a bit. I own two monitors (PB278Q 27.0 and ViewSonic XG2703-GS 27.0) (looking to get rid of the 1st one) and I love them both. I just manually changed the resolution to 1080p on the second monitor and everything looked bad/blurry. I don't know if that's what will happen to a 27" with 1080p by default so maybe someone else can chime in on that.

tldr: I recomend 1440p 27" but your GPU may complain.

> I am really confused with ... 144hz or 60hz... Should I look at 60hz monitors

Hz means refresh rate. So, a 144hz monitor will refresh the image on the screen 144 times a second. A 60hz monitor can do it 60 times a second, etc. Unless you plan on upgrading your CPU and GPU in the future, I would recommend ignoring 144hz monitors. This is because your computer will likely not be able to dish out images fast enough to warrant it. Additionally, mainly FPS shooters are where the extra hz will come in handy.

tldr: Go for 60hz and you'll be fine.

> I am really confused with IPS or TN etc.

For your budget, I think IPS should be very doable. IPS will give you better color production and make things in general look better. Have you ever looked at someones laptop from the at an angle and couldn't see what was on the screen? That's pretty much TN in a nutshell.

tldr: Get IPS.

Supder tldr: If you want a 27" monitor go for a 27" 1440p 60hz IPS monitor. 1440p so it doesn't look bad (computer may complain) 60hz because you won't be able to run 144hz and benefit from it and IPS because you can afford it and it's good. Look at pcPartPicker, I have already filled in the form for you. Also, the top monitor (ASUS PB278Q) happens to be the other monitor I have so AMA.

u/Therno3456 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

With a cpu like that an upgrade to a gtx 1070 or 1080 will work well. I would probably go with a 27" 1440p high hz monitor with g-sync. This way you can run games with your 1050 ti well using g-sync and in the future when you upgrade you'll be able to pump up the settings and use that high herts you bought in the first place to its full potential. However this was all assuming youd be playing triple AAA games like the Witcher 3 and GTA V but if you're playing games that arent so hard to run then the GPU upgrade may be unnesecary.

TL;DR 27" high herts and g-sync will provide for a great gaming experience and 27" provides you with plenty of screen real estate for your other pursuits. A good monitor with these qualities, that would work well for you may be the https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B017EVR2VM . Hopefully thats in your budget thoo..

First of all: don't be too afraid. I'm not sure where you live, but here in the Netherlands, anything I purchase online can be returned no questions asked within 2 weeks (assuming you don't completely destroy it). So you should be safe from any out-of-the-box defects.

Viewing angels are usually only an issue when the monitor isn't right in front of you, if it is, you shouldn't have any issues with TN. a 1060 will get killer framerate is league, so 144Hz would be worth it, in my opinion. If you have a bad back, it would be wise to invest in a properly adjustable monitor or a VESA monitor arm you can adjust it with. It's tight with your budget, but you can always prop it up with books or a monitor stand until it's at the correct height (top bezel at eye level).

League pros play anything their sponsors put in front of them, to be honest. The difference between gold and plat is usually game knowledge, warding and patience.

So this is my recommendation:
AOC G2460PF

It's height adjustable and has all the gaming specs you seem to be looking for! It's on sale on Amazon, but I'm sure Best Buy will have it for a similar price. Questions? let me know :) GL HF!

You can settle for [THIS] (https://smile.amazon.com/AOC-G2460PF-1920x1080-Adjustable-DisplayPort/dp/B01BV1XBEI) if you prefer a flat display, or the scepre that you listed if you prefer a curve. It was one of your original choices.

Neither are my "recommended" options, but that's perfectly ok. I think you'll be happy with either, and it's better than the Asus/Acer.

u/Garn-himself · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Hey man, after just recently buying a 1440p 144hz IPs panel for my 1080 i cannot ever go back to 1080p. The gtx 1080 is an absolute monster that can easily handle 2k resolution on the games you will be playing. at an absolute best case scenario i would reccomend a good IPS panel like the Acer Predator XB271HU even snagging it refurbished though will cost you over six hundred dollars assuming australian prices.

TN panels tend to be weaker on colors, however if you are on a budget this panel here https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1 has absolutely everything you need. the downsides are its 24 inches but it is MUCH cheaper and its such a high quality TN panel there really isnt a tremendous difference.

G-synch unfortunately adds like 150 dollars onto the price of monitors. It is however pretty awesome after having played with it. It dynamically changes your monitors refresh rate to match the FPS you are getting in game. makes gaming feel noticeably smoother IMO.

u/officer21 · 1 pointr/Monitors

look at response time/input lag as well. 16:9 is pretty standard, but there are ultrawide options that are 21:9. 16:10 is a dying breed as far as I can tell.

Read reviews about color and viewing angles. Look up the pros and cons of TN, IPS, VA, PLS, etc.

I would recommend something like this for a good high fps uprgrade, and something like this for a good picture upgrade (1440p IPS)

u/pizzadadd · 2 pointsr/Monitors

> XR341CK

I think you will get a lot of varied answers around here about IPS vs. TN. Having said that, I will tell you my experience. I bought a cheap Asus TN panel a few years ago (before I knew what a TN panel was). Something always seemed off about it to me but I could never quite place it. Then I started to regularly use an IPS panel and I finally put it together. And once I figured it out, the weaknesses in the TN panel became glaringly apparent.

On the other hand, I have no doubt that TN panels have improved greatly since I bought my monitor, especially in the price range we are talking about here and I think a lot of people here will tell you there are great TN panels like this: Dell S2716DG

Which I have seriously considered buying because it's a great price, great design, great quality and has all the features I want...except it's TN. I can't speak for you but since you already have an IPS panel I would think that having a TN monitor next to it would just be distracting, to me it would be. But the price difference is hard to ignore.

u/freespace303 · 3 pointsr/Monitors

You sure you're not willing to consider 1440p? Because at your budget ($372 usd) 27" 1440p 144hz monitors can be had all day long. If not, I listed some 1080p monitors below as well.

Since you have an Nvidia card, My first choice for you would be the Dell Gsync S2716DGR, which goes on sale for less than $400 all the time. It's pretty much the only Gsync 27" for under $400 consistently. Keep an eye on /r/buildapcsales for the best deals.

After using 2 freesync and 2 gsync monitors, I can't go back. The elimination of stutter/tearing is completely worth it IMO. Framerate dips and spikes are smoothed over as well, making for a very consistant experience.

Also, here are a bunch of Freesync 27" 1440p 144hz choices to consider...

Pixio PX276 - $310/250€

Acer XG270HU - $350

G-Story GS27QR - $330

ASUS PB278Q - $353

Monoprice 124657 - $340

If you insist on sticking to 1080p, here are a few options, all 144hz

Pixio PX325c - 32" - $350

Viotek GN32C - 32"- $300

ViewSonic VX2758-C-MH - 27" - $250

I do not own one, but the AOC G2460PF appears to be a great deal. It brandishes the same stats as the monitor that you were looking at, and receives mostly positive reviews (costs $210). I am not sure if you will need to pay for tax (depends on the state that you live in), but if the 20% deal you mentioned is taken off of the LG 24GM77-B then you would be looking at about the same price. I have a friend that is happy with his AOC, but LG is probably more reputable. Would the final price of the LG 24GM77-B be $208 or $260? If it is indeed $208, go for it. If it's $260, consider the AOC.

Depends on what you want to be honest.

Cheap 1080p, 144hz, gsync I used to have one of these, decent monitor.

24" 1440p with all the goodies

If you have extra money to spare and want to get your world rocked

All in all I would recommend the AOC, as the price is great and it is a decent buy considering what you get. It served me proudly for 2 years.

The 24 dell would be a more futureproof investment considering the res.

That said I received the 27" Dell today, and it is awesome. The price is also a steal on the 27", I paid nearly 250 USD more for it here.

Edit: When thinking about it I would 100% get the 24" Dell if you can't justify the extra money for the 27"/can't afford it. Really good price and specs all around. Also, gsync is worth the money for futureproofing your setup.

u/InF3rNoLift · 1 pointr/Monitors

i personally dont know and like the specs of the monitor that you showed, just a 5/6ms response time its too mcuh

since you want to go for a Gaming / Digital Art

This would go best with any Productivity Setup:

http://www.amazon.com/MX239H-1920x1080-AH-IPS-Back-lit-Monitor/dp/B00B1IAL7W/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1453134646&sr=8-7&keywords=asus+24

Now for a more Gaming enthusiasm i would go for this:

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VG248QE-24-inch-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453134887&sr=8-3&keywords=asus+24

these two are below your budget so i guess it would be no problem....now if your planning to expand to a double monitor setup eventually the first monitor would end up to be quite cheaper to achive and it will look some what cooler...in my opinion but that all...

advice: if you gonna work on editing look for Color reproduction wich is something that TN panels lack and if your not gonna edit much but your gonna game most of the time look for G sync compability / low response time and something above 60hz...it will rock your world trust me..but if your just a productivity kind of guy i would say to just look for the right IPS panel

IPS = high Response time , Best color Reprudoction yet , awesome viewing angle ( rlly a non factor to me since if im using a pc i will always sit in front of it LMAO)....but its mainly the brightness and color reproduction are the main pros on IPS plus this also makes your games look cooler but it also means that they wont run smoothly as a TN panel plus someone correct me if im wrong but i think theres no IPS panel with G sync lower than 300usd...

thats all mate good luck with your setup!!

u/Gilianz · 1 pointr/Monitors

This kind of comes down to preference. Personally, I like a 2 monitor setup as you can always have something else on the other screen. The two monitors are a little bit different because the LG monitor does have freesync, which is only good if you have an AMD GPU. The Acer monitor on the other hand will have a 1440p resolution compared to the 1080 of the LG. The other thing to consider is the amount of money you are spending. The LG will give you enough room for a game and twitch chat on the side, since not all games run at a 21:9 ratio. But you would have to spend $400 more for the dual monitor setup.

If I were you and wanted to spend the $800 in total I would go with this Acer monitor, that is if you have an AMD GPU for freesync. Then get a cheaper 27" monitor on the side, be it a 1080 or 1440 resolution monitor. The reason I would spend the $600 on that monitor is because it will have an IPS panel, great for color if you are playing scenic games, and will achieve the 144hz refresh rate that most people will say is good. For the second monitor you could get something like this though arguably it would be nice to have matching monitors.

u/yovalord · 1 pointr/Monitors

i just got https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DGR-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B0149QBOF0 which fits what you want AND has G-sync. I got it from best buy for a little cheaper in person because they didnt have the original one i was looking for. So far i like it, but i dont know much about monitors either outside of: 144hz good, g-sync good, 1440p good, 27 inch good

I totally forgot about this, I'm sorry. The monitors I ended up getting are:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B009C3M7H0/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought them used but search for Very Good condition to ensure there was no damage of any kind to the monitors. The two that I received had clearly never been turned on as they still had all of their stickers on the screen and so forth.

The reason I decided on these monitors was because they were 1440p, could transition to horizontal, were IPS (for very wide angles which I needed) and fit into my price used. The quality of the monitor stand really stood out to me as being the key to these monitors fitting my setup. I could make them perfectly parallel to my primary monitor and they are rock solid. I highly recommend them.

I'm pretty sure that the IPS 144hz Acer predator is about the best there is for 1440p/144hz at the moment, so I'd just try to get the best deal you can find/wait for on one of those and pray for as flawless of a unit as possible

This Viotek monitor has gotten some good reviews lately.

It is a TN panel, but it's a newer panel that produces more vivid colors. My understanding is that you wouldn't want to use it for color-sensitive work like photo/video editing since it over saturates, but it does help with the "washed out color" concerns that usually come with TN. You'll still have the poorer viewing angles though.

Here is a youtube review on it.

The Pixio PX277h is a 27" 1440p 144 hz IPS monitor with HDR (one of the only ones to feature that) but is a bit above your price range. They also have the PX276h, which is the TN version and a bit cheaper.

If you really want IPS, you might also consider the Nixeus EDG27S v2, which gets high praise around here and is considered to have the best FreeSync implementation on the market.

Before you buy the 1440p monitor, which is definitely better for development, you should enable LightBoost (CRT-style strobe backlight) on your VG248QE first and then play a video game. It produces an additional, huge motion clarity improvement.

See PHOTOS: 60Hz vs 120Hz versus LightBoost

The 1440p 120Hz monitor will not have motion as clear as the VG248QE, but you will have more pixels for development (e.g. Eclipse, Visual Studio, etc). The 1440p overclocked to 120Hz will only have 50% less motion blur than 60Hz, but the VG248QE with LightBoost enabled as much as 92% less motion blur than 60Hz -- even LightBoost 100Hz has far less motion blur than non-LightBoost 144Hz.

There are a lot of rave reviews about LightBoost:

  • there are the LightBoost testimonials on Blur Busters
  • there are the customer reviews of VG248QE on Amazon
(Hit Control+F and find the word "lightboost" in these reviews)

The easiest way to turn ON/OFF LightBoost is via the brand new ToastyX Strobelight utility. Don't forget to add multiple refresh rates in Strobelight Setup, preferably both 120Hz(strobed) and 144Hz. That will allow you to be able to turn on/off LightBoost via an easy hotkey.

You said you wanted to have two monitors. Why not keep the ASUS (to keep LightBoost motion clarity) and buy one 1440p monitor (to keep high-res for programming)?

im debating which of those to get myself. im going to get a 2080 super to power.

people seem to think 32 is too big for 1440p but i sorta feel like i'd love the extra real estate over the better stats but i'd like to hear opinions

u/cats_on_cats · 2 pointsr/Monitors

With your 970 you wouldn't be able to take advantage of freesync technology, if you wanted to take advantage of adaptive sync technology would have to be g-sync. I want to say there is a Dell 24" 1440 g-sync https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK that's not too bad as far as g-sync goes, but I have heard that 1440p doesn't look all that great on a 24 inch screen, would need at least 27, also that's a TN panel, ips panels are going to obviously jack the price up even more. I'm not all that familiar with that monitor though so look around for other reviews of that monitor.

You can also go to pcpartpicker.com and search for individual parts, click on monitors and set your parameters to what you want, and it will give you a good idea of what's out there and the price.

I've entered In some parameters, feel free to change them to what you were specifically looking for. On mobile so hopefully the link works https://pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#W=2300,2500&r=256001440,192001080&H=0,144&A=1

u/ottosunday · 1 pointr/Monitors

Yeah, that's a great option and one that I considered, I'm in the process of trying to find two more of these Asus, IPS, 1080p, 23" Monitor I have that I went with specifically over that one because it had vesa mounts and I wanted them to be mounted on a triple stand. LG and Dell also have a variant of the monitor you linked that use the exact same panel so I'd shop around between the 3 and find the one for the best price.

Don't be afraid to go with Ebay deals, particularly manufacturer refurbished (but don't get seller refurbished), refurbished products are actually usually better buys than off the shelf (when its by the manufacturer only) because it's guaranteed to be working and quality control checked.
Another way to save a couple bucks is to look under the used tab for a product on Amazon and take a look for refurbished models or one being sold by Amazon Warehouse Deals (those are open box products and still covered by manufacturer warranty and Amazons purchase protection)

tbh if i were you and i knew i was going to purchase a nice 1440p 144hz gsync monitor early next year then I wouldnt be worried about finding a monitor of the caliber you are looking for right now. However, this ASUS VG248QE is a very popular 24 inch 1080p 144hz monitor that would make an excellent monitor for now and would be an excellent 2nd monitor later. I would recommend the 24 inch and not the 27 because of the greater pixel density.

Sitting here with a x34 predator and 27" asus 1440p display below my 42" 1080p tv flanked with 2016 15"mbp's. I can say you don't need all of this to be more productive for work (though it's nice).

For work: Largest productivity improvements for me are 1440p displays as the workable space is fantastic. I don't recommend anything less now. I work with code, documents browsers and terminals so for me having nice looking text (no glow, high pixel density, etc) was paramount. The https://www.amazon.com/PB278Q-2560x1440-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B009C3M7H0 was my first 1440p display and while i had to buy 2 (first one had issues, not convinced of the QC) the second has been flawless and the build in stand offers lots of flexibility (vertical etc). It's currently $400 but you can find it on sale cheaper occasionally and i'd say its worth the extra $100 if you can swing it.

For gaming the 1060 will be sufficent for 2560x1440p and depending on the type of gaming even teh 3440x1440p. I'm currently running the above 3 displays off a 970 gtx and while its not optimal i dont drop below 50fps often and typically well north of 60fps (doom3 is 80-100fps with highish settings).

Still waiting for a good 36"-42" 4k display to check enough boxes for me.
edit: Just spotted https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VRKVGJG/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i1_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=W7V1VNPMJRKEWH6TSNYH&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=6aad23bd-3035-4a40-b691-0eefb1a18396&pf_rd_i=desktop for under 300 on amazon. Might fit the bill for you.

I just purchased the Viewsonic XG2401 and it is so far an amazing monitor. It comes out of the box needing some adjustments to the settings, but once those adjustments are made the picture is great. It is also comes in right around the $200 price range which is an added bonus. I will likely be purchasing another one for a triple screen setup.

If I was buying today I would have the Nixeus NX-EDG27S v2 on the top of my list.

BUT the new LG offering that has just started showing its face in public, the LG 27GL850, sounds like it might be an even better option, so if you can wait for a month or two for actual real world reviews to get published, the LG 27GL850 that might be the easy winner if it meets what their marketing states.

This seems to be the most "fit the bill" monitor I've seen. The only thing it doesn't have is an IPS and I'd really rather not shell out another 600-800$ after having just bought the computer so soon.

Edit: How funny, I didn't even realize I just linked the same monitor you did.... oie.. lol

They also have

which I believe is the same just 27 instead of 24 at a 70$ price increase. This seems like the best option?

u/cadavra41 · 1 pointr/Monitors

There are plenty of good monitors out there with good color accuracy. Look for an IPS type monitor as they have great color even at an angle. Be warned though IPS glow is a real thing that can be noticeable on black screens but overall I think you will be happier with than rather than a TN or VA panel.

The Asus PB278Q and BenQGW2765HT are both well liked.

The Acer G257HU is also a good entry level 1440p monitor although it is only 25 inches which is smaller than you want.

EDIT: for some reason pcpartpicker is linking to the wrong amazon link for the acer one here is one with the correct price.

u/NaztyNizmo · 0 pointsr/Monitors

Not IPS but this Dell . There is also the Dell S2716DG which is around $400 too, but also TN. I have the 27” and it’s been great. The colors aren’t as good as my IPS but it’s alright, they are good enough.

u/Analbub · 2 pointsr/Monitors

The 1060 max-q isn't powerful enough for gaming at 1440p on any new or demanding game, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you plan on upgrading in the future or plan on building a desktop at some point that is more powerful. Also if you primarily game I would recommend 144hz over 1440p. I would stick with either 1080p 60 hz or 1080p 144hz, but the 1060 probably won't be able to fully use that 144hz on most games. I have the msi gs65, which has 1060 max-q as well, and it has a 1080p 144hz panel in it, and I get 100 fps and above on less demanding games, but any AAA or graphically intensive game struggles to get above 60. My final thoughts before recommendations would be an ips or va panel over a tn, because the response time downgrade is (imo) worth it for the amazing color reproduction. Also at 144hz i find that g-sync and freesync are not that useful and find the additional price not worth it. If you are only gaming and doing competitive games then TN is fine though. Anyway, here are my recommendations

If you aren't into competitive games and want good colors for watching videos and/or photo editing:

1080p 60hz: Dell U2414H

1080p 144hz: Acer ED273

If you are into competitive gaming and want the fastest response time here are a few options:

AOC G2460PF

Viewsonic XG2402

Acer XFA240

u/Shanst123 · 1 pointr/Monitors

Don't know if you're interested in sticking to 27", but the Dell S2417DG is hands down my favorite monitor I've ever owned. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486883366&sr=1-1&keywords=dell+s2417dg 165hz 1440p 1ms response time with G-Sync. And after some minor calibration the colors have been flat out amazing for a TN panel. Here's also a review with calibration settings http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dell-s2417dg-24-inch-165hz-g-sync-gaming-monitor,4788.html. I personally don't find 24" too small for 1440p and have enjoyed every minute of this monitor.

u/GrandmaTheyFreeMe · 1 pointr/Monitors

I just bought a couple Acer XG270HU for $300 each at Best Buy. Loving them so far. It's got this bronze/orange colored plate on it though so make sure that's not a problem for you. Cheapest 1440p 144 Hz monitor I could find with G-Sync/Freesync. Pretty happy so far. Only cons for me are colored plate and the fact the monitors can not rotate left/right on their stands. You have to rotate the entire stand. Also they can not adjust height. With all that being said they are 5/5 for me.

u/Jgautier123 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Well I'm assuming you're looking for something that won't break the bank and if you want IPS for a good price you have to go with 60hz. Here's an example of a solid 60hz IPS monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008DWITHI/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1482599707&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=ips+monitor&dpPl=1&dpID=41zbBpH7xYL&ref=plSrch
Depending on what games you play, you might want 144hz over IPS. This would be the case if you play games like CSGO, or other competitive shooters. Here's a good 144hz panel: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B2HH7G0/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1482604411&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=asus+monitor&dpPl=1&dpID=41lkIdf1gCL&ref=plSrch

u/Soulshot96 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Couple options for the 27 inch panel:

Asus MG279Q(IPS Freesync 4ms, 144hz, not as good as the PG, but it's cheaper, and works better with your AMD GPU thanks to freesync): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236466

This Acer(not too pretty imo but 144hz 1ms Freesync and cheap): http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_1?tag=amazon0606-20&ie=UTF8&qid=1430272001&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+xg270hu+omidpx

If you really want to save money, there is this Asus monitor(24 inches, 144hz, but TN, and only 1080p): http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VG248QE-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/?tag=amazon0606-20

You'll have to look at these monitors for compatibility with Vesa mounts and stuff.

As far as Ultrawides go, that is a bit trickier, you might want to either stretch the budget, or cut into the $600 for the 144hz a bit to get both. I'll post suggestions anyway.

A Dell IPS 1440p ultrawide no freesync though afaik and rather expensive: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-34-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00PXYRMPE?tag=amazon0606-20

Crazy territory here, but this Acer has 75hz, 1440p, ips, freesync and a slick design, but its expensive as hell:
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XR341CK-bmijpphz-34-inch-UltraWide/dp/B0111MRT90/ref=sr_1_15?tag=amazon0606-20&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1436945804&sr=1-15&keywords=3440x1440

And a slightly cheaper but still pricey 1440p ips ultrawide from LG:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025066&cm_re=1440p_ultrawide-_-24-025-066-_-Product

Look through, find some you like that both fit into your $1200 overall budget, make sure they would fit on a mount, find a mount, and go.

What's the specs of monitor you are looking for?

Does it have to have gsync? 144hz? 2560x1440p? Price range?
Edit:

If you don't care much about gsync, I am running: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009C3M7H0/ref=twister_B01HPAU80O?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Two of them, and they have been great - color wise, gaming, everything is pretty much awesome for me. But to each their own

u/riptid3 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

https://www.amazon.com/LG-27GL83A-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Monitor/dp/B07YGZL8XF

Slightly more than budget I think. Not sure on conversion rates currently. High end panel, great response times, low input lag, good color, 144hz, freesync, gsync compatible.

Better Contrast than the LG27GL850

Definitely the best panel you're going to get under 500.00 with those specs. (it's the same or better than panels in the 500-780+ range if you count the new viewsonic which uses the same panel overclocked, but has a gsync module)

u/TheMarshmallow · 1 pointr/Monitors

The LG is better, but definitely not 125$ better. At 400$ you could get the Dell S2417DG which is a 1440p, G-Sync 144hz 24inch monitor, and is simply better than the LG and the Viewsonic.

The problem with IPS panels is that they have higher response times and are generally more expensive. There are AHVA panels (usually listed as IPS) which have TN-like response times with better image quality but you'll have to pay a hefty premium for it.

The only problem with the XG2401 is that you're running a GTX770 and so wont benefit from FreeSync. Other than that it seems to be exactly what you're looking for. Note that you will have to do some tweaking of the settings and ICC profile to get the best image quality, but there are lots of very easy to follow guides on doing it.

u/Kylix_ · 1 pointr/Monitors

Dell S2716DGR - 1440p, 144Hz, 27" LED w/ G-Sync, TN panel, 1ms response @ $699

I've seen this go on sale recently for around $449. Just throwing that out there.

  • Here's an older discussion about this model (pretty good reviews overall)

  • Here it is on Amazon (a little cheaper than Best Buy if you want to price match or order online)

  • I've seen this one in person and can vouch that it actually does look and feel really good. I just can't bring myself to own a TN panel because I do a lot of artwork and I feel like IPS is better for that (color reproduction and accuracy), otherwise I'd own this one already.
u/coolcommando123 · 1 pointr/Monitors

So since you have an Nvidia graphics card, the adaptive sync technology you would be able to utilize is Gsync. Unfortunately, gsync adds a pretty price tag due to there being extra hardware in the monitor. But I detailed below why it isn't a big issue that I selected a monitor without gsync.
You mention primary uses as gaming, which means a 144hz monitor would be great, and programming which would benefit from 2k resolution due to the increased screen real estate.

A good 2k, 144hz 27" monitor WITHOUT gsync, would be the XG270HU.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS

It does have freesync which your graphics card will not be able to utilize, but a gtx1080 will easily get over 100 frames and at that point any sync technology is diminishing returns. I think this monitor is perfect for your specs and budget.

u/frostymoose · 37 pointsr/Monitors

Probably neither of them. They both have terrible stands (edit: the xv272u's stand is actually not terrible) and don't seem to offer anything special. Those Acer cheapskates don't even give you more than a HDMI cable to connect with.

The Pixio PX-7 Prime and the LG 27GL83A are slightly more expensive. But I think they are both better choices. The upgrade to the stand is worth it, unless you already have a VESA mount.

The pixio has the same wide gamut as the acer models and will handle motion at least as well - probably better.

The LG will give you better motion handling for gaming - the best of any current IPS monitor.

u/DCGColts · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Best you'll find is 1440p hdr at a higher hz than 60 atm. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-C32HG70-32-Inch-Monitor-C32HG70QQN/dp/B06XSQ5QN8?th=1

Microsoft added support to 1440p res on the xbox one in march https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-one-1440p

Also since its console use you don't really need higher than 60hz as your not going to get the benefit as nothing runs above 60fps. So you effectively be running 60hz anyway. Most important thing would be response time 1ms-2ms range.

u/jamesgangnam · 0 pointsr/Monitors

this, this, or this would do really nicely. The important thing is that it's an ips panel, meaning colors will look really vibrant and great. If you're not going to be using a mouse, you really don't have to worry about response time.

Edit: a word

u/jamboy5590 · 1 pointr/Monitors

In my opinion best monitor for the price is Asus pb278q. I got this monitor for $450 a year ago and it's done me well. Great IPS display with pretty low latency makes it good for some light gaming. I've been using mine for graphics work with my 950 TI runs flawlessly. Lately I've seen them go as low as $350.

http://www.amazon.com/PB278Q-2560x1440-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B009C3M7H0

u/PalebloodSky · 3 pointsr/Monitors

Consoles currently don't play games any faster than 60Hz, but don't let that stop you from getting a 120Hz or higher gaming monitor for future-proofing. Both next-gen consoles will output up to 120Hz and support FreeSync. Even better all PCs can output higher refresh 144Hz, 240Hz, etc. and play games at much higher framerates than consoles (much smoother and less input lag).

Based on this my recommendation would be to get a 1440p, FreeSync, 144Hz (or higher) monitor so you're covered across the board like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-27GL850-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Monitor/dp/B07TD94TQF/

u/Megabyte2 · 5 pointsr/Monitors

There are a few options though it depends what route you wish to take. It's hard to know how much ghosting a 1080p IPS panel will have due to the lack of detailed reviews of them.

If I had to pick a 27" IPS I would grab something like the ASUS MX279H which is slightly over budget. Not sure if it's the best one though as I don't often look at the 1080/60/IPS monitors.

If you want to rid yourself as much ghosting as possible then 144Hz would be fantastic. Less motion blur compared to 60Hz, less input lag, buttery smooth and since it's TN its a little faster.

For $200 you can get a good 144Hz monitor, the AOC G2460PF which also includes Freesync.

In the end it depends if you prefer 144Hz or the benefits of an IPS panel more.

u/shmedfood · 1 pointr/Monitors

I am not sure how the monitor is yet, but i hear there is a lot of hype around the LG 27GL83A-B 27 Inch Ultragear QHD IPS 1ms, which is the sRGB version of the LG 27gl80-B. I would wait until the reviews compare them but here is the link to the one i probably recommend

high refresh rate, 144hz, freesync ips (with faster response time but keep the mode on fast instead of faster to prevent overshoot)

https://www.amazon.com/LG-27GL83A-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Monitor/dp/B07YGZL8XF/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=lg+27gl83a&qid=1571932637&sprefix=LG+27gl83a&sr=8-1

and the more expensive version that has a wide color gamut

https://www.amazon.com/LG-27GL850-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Monitor/dp/B07TD94TQF/ref=pd_sbs_147_1/130-0970874-9995330?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07TD94TQF&pd_rd_r=00e706b0-142e-450a-a244-fe6efa5489b4&pd_rd_w=RBseU&pd_rd_wg=mhjlV&pf_rd_p=52b7592c-2dc9-4ac6-84d4-4bda6360045e&pf_rd_r=BG447A9KJ5P5YE3CHJVY&psc=1&refRID=BG447A9KJ5P5YE3CHJVY

I would recommend waiting a bit though to get some review on the first monitor but I would recommend it none the less if it is like the second monitor only cheaper and with sRGB instead of a wide color gamit.

u/itsmjess · 1 pointr/Monitors

I'll go for the ASUS VG278HV, I have the same one but in 24", can't wait to buy my second one, I think both are good in quality, but I am really happy with my Asus, I have a BenQ, but is not 144hz, so I wouldn't be fair to compare both, however I rather the Asus now, and also you can save some $ buying the same quality/thing.

u/AlphaDST · 1 pointr/Monitors

Тhis one already has reviews, AOC 24G2U review !!!

I've been looking for a monitor for almost a year, I was originally planning on buying a TN 144hz since I really don't care about the colors, but luckily this thing just came out it seems. I'm currently Acer R240HY and looking at the specs, they're identical except the Hz, I might as well just use them together in a dual monitor setup.

If there's anyone planning on buying a second monitor to pair it with this AOC one I strongly recommend the Acer R240HY, It literally has the same 23.8" screen, is IPS, and has borderless bezels!

u/Nefthys · 2 pointsr/Monitors

It really depends on what you're looking for. TN or IPS, 144Hz or 60Hz, 22", 23" or 24".

This would be one of the cheapest I know of but still just fine for WoW: Acer G246HL (TN, 60Hz)

If you want to go for 144Hz (which might even be worth it with WoW) you could get this one: Acer GN246HL

Or maybe this IPS one (60Hz): Acer R240HY

You can check on pcpartpicker what exactly is important to you. ;)

u/Praseve · 1 pointr/Monitors

As far as I know for a curved VA high refresh rate panel, Samsung's your best bet. Samsung CFG70 24-inch 1080p 144hz 1ms FreeSync display (I've heard these Samsung monitors work with G-sync too). Some of those reviews say it's amazing and some are reporting quality control issues so it's tough to say if it's a good buy.

If you want IPS instead I'm afraid I'm not up to date on any curved options with those specs.

Edit: I hear this is a newer monitor of similar type, might want to look into that one as well

u/SoloDoloismybrolo · 1 pointr/Monitors

Ahh to be looking for your first gaming monitor. I missed that time. Anyways, I shall help.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Monitor-Refresh-FREESYNC-Technology/dp/B075KFPJ5C/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=1920x1080p+144hz+ips&qid=1558033182&s=gateway&sr=8-2 This is an overall pretty solid 1080p monitor and is G-sync compatible. You get a VA panel which means likely no backlight bleed, fast response, and much better color accuracy compared to a TN. Right now its $230.

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2401-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B01A0ZRR50/ref=sr_1_10_sspa?keywords=1920x1080p+144hz+ips&qid=1558033309&s=gateway&sr=8-10-spons&psc=1 This is a good choice if you cant spend the extra $30. This is a TN Panel so its going to have poor viewing angles(not a big deal when gaming head on), it will have fast response, and color accuracy will be decent.

Please note that I am really picky on my monitors and am an enthusiast. Either of these monitors would be a market improvement over the TV you are using.

u/ReaperSpirit · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I am in the same boat as you, also Canadian, and from researching for a couple days, unless you absolutely need ips or gsync, this is the one I would be considering: Viewsonic xg2401 : https://www.amazon.ca/ViewSonic-XG2401-24-Inch-Led-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01A0ZRR50/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468941774&sr=8-1&keywords=xg2401 . The reason is that it is 144hz, which would help for fps gaming, and apparently the colors are quite good for a TN (one of the best?), with good reviews and recommendation. I would love a good IPS monitors that has 144hz for gaming, but they seem to be too expensive in canadian dollars.

I would also be interested on what people think about this choice

The xg2401 can be found for ~340$ Canadian if you look around, but it has freesync. The XB241H, which I've seen recommended for Gsync(I have an Nvidia card) is 550$ Canadian, which would be too expensive

u/Abulap · 1 pointr/Monitors

I would wait to see real reviews on the upcoming LG 27GL850-B, its an a new IPS 1ms panel nano led, 144hz Freesync / Gsync compatible, it should be out by ends of August, i seen around 500 eur preorder, but i would wait for reviews to see how it performs and if it doesn't have any issues.

Another budget monitor that might or not be available to you VIOTEK GFT27DB, its still a TN but its pretty decent for being a TN, if you want to see more about it, check The Best TN Gaming Monitor Ever? Viotek GFT27DB Review

u/Sendrox · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I got a ViewSonic XG2401 about a week ago and I'm loving it!! It's fast, has great ergonomics and excellent colors (true 8-bit color depth). I based my decision mainly on this Tom's Hardware review.

u/astrix_au · 1 pointr/Monitors

I'm surprised the Acer Nitro XV272UP is available in Australia now on Mwave. I was looking at getting it but people haven't been happy with it's response times. Hopefully Simon at TFTCentral will review it otherwise ill give it a miss. I am happy for now with my Nixeus NX-27EDG, actually extremely happy, I only got it a few months ago so wishing I waited for the updated version with slimmer bezels and HDMI Freesync / Adaptive Sync support. The new updated NX-27EDGSV2 available here on Amazon. It's the basic stand version with the letter (S) in the model name.

u/killacam7478 · 1 pointr/Monitors

I think the Acer is better, but it's also Freesync. If you're getting a 1070, you'd be better off finding a G-Sync monitor so you're fully utilizing the GPU (and the monitor). Maybe something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB241H-bmipr-1920x1080/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1465508278&sr=8-13&keywords=1440p+gsync

Edit: Oops that's 1080p. It looks like GSync monitors cost a bit more. I'm not too familiar with them (i'm team Red!), but I'll keep an eye out for ya!

u/xandarg · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Thanks for the detailed reviews. I'm starting to think there's no perfect solution here, myself. I am leaning toward Gsync, however, given feedback I received here. But yeah, I think at this point I'll just get something similar to my current TN panel, but just an upgrade in resolution, size, refresh rate, and with GSync. Even a cheapo like this one will still be better in all those categories than what I've got now, and will let me save money for the ultimate monitor that may not be available for another 5-10 years.

u/z-Routh · 1 pointr/Monitors

This one made by dell.

Here is a review of the monitor.

IMO it's the best 144hz 1440p monitor available at the best price. Dell has much better quality control than ASUS and ACER and i can't believe it's not more popular. I have the asus 24inch 144hz 1080p monitor and the dell will be my next upgrade for sure.

u/Zeag · 1 pointr/Monitors

Absolutely not a problem? ;)

I would say a Acer X34 or Asus ROG SWIFT PG348Q.

In the more plausible realm, I'd say the Asus ROG PG278Q and Dell S2716DG are two very popular choices.

Hope that helps!

u/shaft169 · 1 pointr/Monitors

They’re pretty much the same as far as I’m aware, only real difference is Gsync/Freesync. There are better Freesync monitors around of similar specs like the Viewsonic XG2401 which is £250 on Amazon right now, that monitor is considered the best 1080p 144Hz TN monitor.

u/kasmog · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Yeah, Lol. It's time to let go.
Back to monitor, If I needed a 1080p IPS 60hz 23" right now, I would definitely get https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008DWITHI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1.
Sure, it's an older style with pretty big bezel, but the sharpness and crystal clearness of that monitor is superb for the price.

u/ducklingkwaak · 1 pointr/Monitors

Consider this: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VS239H-P-23-Inch-Full-HD-Monitor/dp/B008DWITHI

What are your needs? I'm guessing low cost, and get the most for your money?

Your second monitor is a good choice for IPS and good for general use and probably better than most mid range TN screens.

If you're gaming, generally you'll appreciate a 120hz+ monitor. Here's a 144hz one for ~$250 if you can go that high: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0

If you can spend juuust a little more, I'd highly recommend going for one of the 1440p monitors that can overclock to 120hz (if you're persistant, you can get one for around $300). Here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/QNIX-QX2710-Evolution-LED-Monitor/dp/B00BUI44US

u/Scaldor · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I normally agree about Dell quality control, but not on this monitor.

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/product-reviews/B0149QBOF0/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_hist_2?filterByStar=two_star&pageNumber=1

Its always a lottery with gaming monitors unfortunately.

Also I bought four xb271hu recently, 3/4 were fantastic and one of them was relatively good for ips panels in terms of blb/glow. I tried the pg279q three times , x34 twice, and xb270hu three times, they were all poop. Xb271hu has improved qc to 270

u/thighmaster69 · 1 pointr/Monitors

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately right now, contrast ratio is really a priority for me. Switching over from even my iPhone 7 at 1700:1 to my monitor at 1000:1 really is a revelation of how much it matters. All of the monitors you suggested are at about 1000:1

Hell, The Witcher 3 looks better on my PS4 on my TV than my 1000:1 monitor on PC at Ultra settings simply because of how much brighter the highlights are when I set the backlight to an acceptable level so the blacks aren’t grey. It’s really far more lifelike than at a lower contrast ratio, when it just looks like you’re looking at a picture printed on a sheet. My monitor right now looks like a music video from about 5 years ago in comparison. And I have the HDMI RGB range set to the full 0-255, too.

That said, both my TV and iPhone are at about 1600:1 contrast ratio and the iPhone is IPS. Which says to me that IPS screens at the top end really can be good enough. The only 1440p IPS monitor I’ve found, however, that has a good contrast ratio is this Acer one: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00QS0AKVK/?coliid=I2DYNQVF9W3IHD&colid=2YNI3SWC8TIWW&psc=0 and that has a whole host of issues.

I’m really wondering why monitor manufacturers aren’t making higher contrast IPS displays. I would gladly pay a premium even for a 1500:1 IPS monitor. It’s really a travesty that these manufacturers are calling 1000:1 a high contrast ratio when Apple is putting 120 hz IPS panels at higher resolutions on their iPad pros that can do 600 nits and a 1500:1 contrast ratio, and a True Tone feature to boot.

u/NightxGlory · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Previously i suggested AOC G2460PF because it was one of the cheapest and better than ASUS VG248QE (Amazon pricing)

If you able to find a good price for the below as they are top tier 1080p 24" panel :)

C24FG73/70 - VA = better color overall. XG2402/01 - TN = fastest response time (pure game performances)

u/loganemar · 1 pointr/Monitors

Yeah, the Predator is pretty nice. You could also go with the Dell S2417DG which is supposed to have the best colors for a TN panel. There's also a 27 in version of it.

u/JeffroGymnast · 1 pointr/Monitors

Free sync allows your monitor's refresh rate to sync dynamically to your GPU so that you can have no stuttering or tearing in a range of FPS instead of just 60. See here for more info: http://www.testufo.com/#test=stutter

It's slim pickings for freesync at 1080p right now, though, and it's gonna add to the cost of the monitor. With your budget of $200 I think your best bet is to get a 1080p IPS panel of whatever size you prefer. There is a [28" Asus] (https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/3yqy2g/monitor_asus_vn289h_28in_1080p_60hz_5ms_15999/) on sale right now for $160 and a [27" Dell] (https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/3yugpr/monitor_dell_s2715h_black_27_6ms_ips_w_builtin/) for $210. Or you can save some cash and go for a 24" like [this one] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0148NNKTC).

Brands to look for: Dell, Acer, Asus, BenQ, and LG.

u/shadyinternets · 2 pointsr/Monitors

have you considered 1 ultrawide? you would only have to give up the decent refresh rate part as to get 100hz is going to be at least $1,000 if you find a refurb or something.

something like this, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q7VCSGU/ref=psdc_1292115011_t1_B00PXYRMPE

you will be at 60hz but the 1070 should push it nicely.

otherwise you are prob not going to find what you want at that price point, would have to spend a little more for something like https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_3?

what about something like this? people claim to get it to 85hz, its 1440p, no bezel since ultrawide and not a ton over your budget. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Curved-34-inch-UltraWide-Display/dp/B0111MRT90?

dropping from 1440p to 1080p would also open up more options.

u/not_so_plausible · 1 pointr/Monitors

The 3D is more for marketing and doesn't really effect the price so that detail can be ignored. If that price is too high then like I said before buy a used 144hz monitor. If it has to be brand new, which Idk why it would need to be, then get something with an IPS panel like this. You're not going to really find a new gaming monitor at your price range but at least you'll have beautiful colors with an IPS panel :)

u/ProficientPlatypus · 1 pointr/Monitors

Thanks for your reply and opinions -

This will be the first PC I've built since I've been on laptops my whole life so I'm sure that any good monitor will be a huge upgrade for me.

For the 27GL850 that you mentioned, I searched it up - it's an LG panel right? I was trying to look through the specs and I couldn't find that much difference with the monitors I've mentioned. What about this one is so much better than the 279Q?

Thanks for your time!

u/romeurosa82 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Yes, that monitor under your budget of 600€ is an excellent buy.

It's currently at 599€ https://www.amazon.es/ASUS-ROG-Swift-PG279Q-resoluci%C3%B3n/dp/B017EVR2VM

It does cost more than it's competition, part of that is paying the ROG tax which I agree is a bit much.

However you do get better contrast and black levels, it does 165hz instead of 144hz and it has an actual gsync module so you get a bigger fps window of variable refresh rate that it can work on.

It's also a lot more feature packed than the LG and on par with the Aorus

u/TheTechnical · 1 pointr/Monitors

C24fg70 is a good option because it uses a VA panel instead of TN like the ones you listed. VA is generally superior with better color and contrast with this one not sacrificing response time or refresh rate.

I believe the Acer G257HU to be the best 1440p monitor for the price. Slim bezels, great ips display, low price, semi-gloss, and name brand. I'm also a fan of it being 25" since you get a noticeable increase in pixel density.

u/Zaphyr1785 · 3 pointsr/Monitors

I don't remember how current the discussions I was looking at were but I'm in the market for a 144hz (w/ Freesync if possible) display as well and I've heard praise of the ViewSonic XG2401. Since, I'm assuming, this is a more knowledgeable community (than buildapc/sales) could anyone share their insight on this display and the ones that OP has linked?

u/S1iceOfPie · 1 pointr/Monitors

I'd say go for the Samsung CFG70 with a VA panel instead of a TN monitor for better colors and viewing angles.

It's got pretty good reviews and is priced similarly to other 1080p 144 Hz TN monitors.

If you have an Nvidia card, you may be interested in the CFG75 coming later down the road (apparently this year), which will be the G-sync variant of this monitor.

I don't see a real need to get another 1440p screen honestly. Especially since it's just your side panel and being cheaper you could get 2x 1080p screens and have a lot of screen real estate. You can get everything you're looking for in the Dell S2716DG. 1440p, 144Hz and G-sync for $599. It is however a TN panel if that matters to you, but I hear it's a great one. The 24" ASUS VG248QE for a 24 in. I don't think that you have to overclock to get the 120 Hz or 144 Hz.

On the other hand, the QNIX QX2710 LED Evolution II is on a very good deal right now. It's a 27" with a PLS panel and 2560x1440 resolution. I don't know much about this product, but I read somewhere that if you overclock this to 120 Hz, it does truly run at 120 Hz, but it does have motion blur in twitch-gaming (RTS games should be fine, though). Keep in mind that it is Korean monitor, and I do not know how Korean-monitor distributors handle returns. I suggest that you should look up more about this product before you buy it.

I can't understand why you are comparing mediocre 1080p TN panels to a 1440p IPS panel.

I wouldn't recommend TN monitor to anyone, so IPS it is, but still with XG2703 you are paying the G-Sync $150 premium tax. You know Freesync monitors work with Nvidia cards as well?

Because you could get something like Nixeus EDG27 V2 and save those $150 while having the same 1440p 144Hz IPS panel.

I am partial to ultrawide myself but be warned 1080p on a screen over 27 inch can be too pixelated for some. All the games you listed support 21:9 and you will get much better frame rates with your current card vs 1440p. I wouldn't look at the UM67 personally. In the $500 or under range this is a better option since it the newer model and it also has freesync.

As for 1440p recommendation this would be cheaper and also have freesync.

Hey, I have the exact same card and also planning to upgrade from my regular old 1080p 60hz BenQs. I have done quite a lot of research and have come to the conclusion, that starting from around 350$ adaptive sync is essentially a must-have if planning on any kind of gaming and futureproofing. As far as I know there are no additions needed to use FreeSync other than plug it in and turn it on from the monitor settings besides connecting your monitor via DisplayPort (or DVI aswell?).

In my opinion the best price to performance value monitor is the last one you mentioned, after weeks of searching I have not found anything close to these specs and that pricepoint. The only caveat with that particular model seems to be that the stand does not have a height adjustment or the VESA mounting points. Also the panel is a TN, rather than an IPS, so if the latter is preferred, add another ~100$ to the monitor's price and get either this:

or this:

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MG279Q-Screen-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468906650&sr=8-1&keywords=MG279Q

One other possibility for TN screens is the BenQ XL2730Z, which is ~80$ more, but has a sturdy stand, height adjustment and VESA mounting points:

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2730Z-Monitor-Resolution-FreeSync/dp/B00TUK9D9K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468907000&sr=8-1&keywords=xl2730z

If you're adamant about the 300$ range, you will probably have to choose 2 of 3 from FreeSync/144Hz/1440p. I have seen people recommending this:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2401-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B01A0ZRR50/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468907327&sr=8-1&keywords=XG2401

or the LG you mentioned:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468881176&sr=1-2&keywords=ultrawide+lg+29

Also when updating I am planning on still using my 24" 1080p one and possibly my 22" beside it aswell. The upgrade to 1440p should be quite noticeable aswell, particularly if going for a 144hz FreeSync model. The PPI will stay roughly the same, but there is more screen real estate.

If anyone has any information about any upcoming 1440p 144Hz FreeSync monitors or if I missed a particularly good one, then let me know aswell, thanks.

I just saw one of your comments while doing some research. Do you think you could offer some advice? You really seem to know your stuff. I LOVE the colors and the crispness of the text on my Surface Pro 4. I'm currently using a cheap monitor (at least it's 1080p) I scored in 2009 for $60.

I'm willing to spend maybe $400 on an upgrade and all I want is high resolution, high refresh rate, and nicer colors. I also want to be done with the bright blacks of my current monitor, the E211H.

I'm thinking of getting either the Pixio PX277^[^0^] or the Dell S2417DG^[^1^] if the price drops again, but I'm open for other suggestions.

I would recommend, based on your budget, ~$192 per monitor. For that, I would recommend purchasing 3 Asus VG248QE's from the linked Amazon webpage

They definitely aren't the newest monitors as they've been on the market for a good few years, but for that price, you're getting a really good deal

u/jobhand · 1 pointr/Monitors

Personally I can't recommend that specific monitor in its current state for really anything. I went through 3 of them with different issues, returned all of them. Stuck pixels, poor white uniformity and bad light bleed were the issues I returned for.

But to answer your question it depends on what you mean by photoshop work.

Photo editing, color correcting etc. Based on your budget I'd definitely go with a 4k monitor with 10bit color and a 10 series Nvidia card, because they support 10bit color. Also as others have stated check Adobe RGB and sRGB color coverage of the display.

If on the other hand you're doing graphic design work and illustration that doesn't make extremely heavy use of gradients and complex color palettes. You don't necessarily need 10 bit color or as much coverage of the Adobe RGB or sRGB color spaces since most of your work I assume will be printed with mostly 4 color process or on rare occasions 6 color. So I'd say you're free to look into some high refresh IPS monitors, but bewary that many of them are experiencing many of the same problems as the PG279Q. The one that seems to receive more praise than the others is the Acer XB271HU.

I do the latter of the two, graphic design and illustration. But I also game quite a bit, 20-30 hours a week and like to play Triple A games at 60fps or above. So I had to do a bit of research and mold the two into one since I didn't want to buy separate stations for the both of them.

Thank you for posting your thoughts.

I knew I'd run into the situation eventually. I've hung on to my 980TI for quite a while since it was one of the last with DVI and analog out. I figured I could get ready for the video card switch by getting a monitor now. I was surprised how limited my options are for monitors. I then discovered it is only the 1000+ series Nvidia cards that supported free sync. So their fates are tied. Very annoying.

I feel better now that I've read how much you enjoy the upgrade. I think the 2080 is my sweet spot. Now if only the monitor choice was so clear cut.

It's down to the Nixeus, ROG Swift, and Aorus AD27QD. On paper the bells and whistles of the ROG AND Eorus don't seem very tempting. I'd forgotten how annoying it is to monitor shop. I'd wager it is worse than picking a motherboard.

I´m personally a big fan of VA panels. yeah they´re not as accurate a lot of the time. but unless you´re doing colour-sensitive work. you´re not gonna care once you see that sweet sweet contrast ratio VA has to offer.

Here´s my picks
Lower end. but very good
Lower end. but still awesome
Factory calibrated hdr goodness

For 600$ your money is better spent on a 144hz 1440p gsync monitor

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B017EVR2VM/ref=olp_f_usedVeryGood?ie=UTF8&f_usedVeryGood=true

grab one of the very good used ones from amazon warehouse for 625$

You can find some that are only repackaged and have never been used. Will change your life, I had a U2713HM.. this is a huge improvement.

u/Umity · 1 pointr/Monitors

It's pretty hard to get both a display for photo editing while at the same time gaming (assuming you want 144hz) at that price range. If you want good colors and high refresh rates, the closest monitor that fits your requirements right now would be the Samsung C24FG70. It's a 144hz VA panel that usually goes for $279. Also note that it's a CURVED monitor so it might not be the best for photo editing. There should be a refresh on this monitor soon that changes the stand (the current one is kind of large and wobbly).

PCMonitors does a good review of this monitor if you'd like more information on it.

u/bob12201 · 3 pointsr/Monitors

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00QS0AKVK is essentially the same (I think it uses the exact same panel but not sure). I got one not too long ago for $200. But the dell has a significantly better stand, comes factory calibrated, and has a better feature set in general. If your trying to buy a main monitor I'd go with the Dell.

Also, the U2515Hx is $279.99 on Amazon right now.

I've read and seen good things about this monitor. Any input about it? Looks pretty fantastic from what all I've seen

ViewSonic XG2401 is the 1080p 144Hz monitor of choice, and though it doesn't have G-Sync, you can get it for $240 at BestBuy or Amazon right now.

Spec-wise, this monitor is a great pick, but it's a bit of a gamble with few reviews. Curved screens are great. I didn't understand them until I actually saw one.

this one https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-24-Inch-Monitor-C24FG70-LC24FG70FQNXZA/dp/B01M1DEEYP/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521492654&sr=8-1&keywords=c24fg70
i have the 27" model and the colors are great, viewing angles are really good for not being ips and while the stand takes a lot of space out of your desk is really flexible

u/philstat · 1 pointr/Monitors

Yes, that's definitely the case with the LG, one of the reviewers on YouTube referenced the issue in a chat session, once you enable certain settings, it would immediately disable the others.

This is also in the questions section for the LG, from the manufacturer on Amazon:

The LG 27GL850 27'' UltraGear™ Nano IPS 1ms Gaming Monitor with G-Sync® Compatibility, Model # 27GL850-B has a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a 144Hz refresh rate. Both HDMI ports on the monitor are HDMI 1.4 ports will support a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440 @ 60Hz. The HDMI 1.4 are limited to 120Hz @ 1080p and cap out at 60Hz for higher resolutions...\^IFV see less

I picked this up when it was on sale for $219, best price I've seen for 144hz/1ms response time.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=shptrk_scth

Benq also makes a great competing monitor, at 144hz/1ms just a little more expensive (a lot, if you could've gotten in when the Asus was $219), called the XL2420t. I think those round out the cheapest options, unless you're willing to go korean.

u/King_Tryndamere · 1 pointr/Monitors

I know it's pretty far under your price range but this is what I have an I absolutely love the picture it puts out.

Yep! This one:

I can send you a pic of my two monitors side-to-side once my PB278Q arrives tomorrow if you'd like. Still gotta figure out how I'm going to fit it all on my desk, lol.

Note: If you pretty much only play csgo there's no need to get a gsync monitor as those cost much more and gsync is disabled when the game goes above the monitor's refresh rate. Your 1060 will play csgo at well over 144 fps even at 1440p. If you plan on playing "beefier" games at 1440p gsync is recomended.
